REVIEW: We Are Us by Tara Leigh is a stand alone book of second chance romance, but nothing can prepare you for what awaits. This is arguably one of the most complex yet deeply moving love stories to be told. Reading the reviews before going in, no one wants to give anything away! Which is probably for the best. While there are delicate matters involved, the author does an extremely well and meaningful take on them.

Poppy wakes up from an accident with no recollection of how she has gotten there. She has no idea where her husband, Tucker is, or what has happened to him, but her first heartbreak / true love is there for her.

Special Agent Gavin Cross was Poppy’s first love, but then he disappeared – breaking her heart. But now he is back, and he means to keep Poppy safe from the fate she is facing.

This book is written from Poppy’s POV. Poppy was a brave 13 year old girl that grew up with not the best of childhoods.

She spent time in foster care due to her mother’s addiction, but she is back home with her mom and sister Sadie.

She doesn’t have the greatest home life and the only comfort she had in her life, she found in a boy that she met in the woods between their houses. That boy was Gavin Cross.

The woods, the preserve, “their” cave, the moment is theirs. Poppy and Gavin’s relationship was beautiful, sweet and everything you want in a teen romance. They both somehow needed the other. Healed each other. Built trust with each other. And it was beautiful. Their love is strong well into high school – until Gavin disappears.

Devastating Poppy. But she knows he will return to her in college. They had plans…

“I am his. He is mine. We are us.”
“I am hers. She is mine. We are us.”

But things at University does not go the way Poppy has planned. She gets there fully intending to see the love of her life – Gavin. But Gavin doesn’t show.

What has happened to him to not follow through with the plans they had made for their life together.

Poppy meets her roommate Wren, who’s personally leaves a lot to be desired. Wren’s best friend turns out to be Tucker Stockton. And, after one fateful night of over drinking Tucker and Poppy’s life is forever intertwined.

Poppy’s sadness and feeling of loss at Gavin not showing up at school, causes Poppy to make some decisions that she wouldn’t otherwise make. Trying to fit in, have fun, and excessive drinking has consequences. And those consequences do not make Poppy’s life any easier!

Not going to lie, some of her decisions truly upset me and I did not agree with them at all. But this is a broken child becoming a woman. My heart completely aches for her. Connecting with Poppy was easy, we have all had our own angst growing up. Hard not to feel that. This was not an easy read, your heart will be wracked with emotions, aching with pain – but there is healing, and hope, and promise.

Her choice to build a friendship with Tucker after their fateful night bothered me. But I completely understood it on a deep emotional level. You tend to seek comfort in those you have had trauma with. But what becomes of Gavin…

Where has he disappeared to and when we will find out where he is…

When Gavin returns to her life, Poppy has begun a relationship with Tucker.

And while she is happy to see Gavin, Tucker has manipulated the situation to benefit himself. But Gavin truly loves Poppy. And he has never stopped. Even when she pushed him away. The years has separated them, but what will the future hold.

Poppy continues with on paper – her fairy tale life! But in reality he life and relationship is anything but a fairy tale.

Tucker is manipulative, demanding and over-bearing. By the time Poppy wakes up in the hospital and her husband is missing – I was glad he was gone!

I completely hated the demeaning way Tucker has treated Poppy, and even more upset that she allowed it to happen. But it does happen. Even in real life the same happens. We lose ourselves completely….

This book was the most amazing roller coaster of emotions. And will leave you completely wrecked yet relieved.

Dismayed at the betrayal yes not surprised in the least.

Twists and turns – but true love will prevail.

Highly recommend if you want to a book that takes you to the emotional edge and then slowly builds to a fight your way to your happy ever after!

“Close your eyes.”
I slant a curious look at Gavin, taking in his kiss-swollen lips and flushed skin, his untamable mop of hair and the blaze of excitement lighting up the blue of his corneas.
Gavin squeezes my hand reassuringly as I do what he’s asked, then slowly walks me the remaining few steps toward our cave. Without vision, my other senses are heightened. The cry of birds sounds closer, like they are perched just overhead instead of on branches thirty or forty feet above. The bite of the breeze on my skin is sharper, each gust sending a chill racing along already sensitive nerve endings. The smell of ripe earth and rich evergreen and the clean, bracing scent of Gavin himself is downright intoxicating, my head swimming as I pull breaths deep into my lungs.
Most of all, the moonstone pendant laying against my collarbone is making my chest tingle, my heart fluttering against my ribcage.
“Okay, open them.”
I do, immediately gasping in surprise at what Gavin’s done to our little cave. There are candles burning and scattered rose petals—no, poppy petals—and a basket filled with drinks and snacks. A pile of blankets and pillows.
“You did all this for me?” I ask, my voice sounding whispery and weird.
I feel whispery and weird.
I’ve never had a birthday like this. I’ve never even imagined a birthday like this. First the necklace and now, seeing the lengths Gavin has gone for me…
Beneath the surface of my skin, I’m a chaotic mess of emotions. I don’t know what to say, how to act. This is uncharted territory for me.
“Of course,” he says, as if it’s nothing. But it’s not nothing. It’s everything.
Before I dissolve into a teary puddle, Gavin reaches into his pocket and pulls out a deck of cards. “You taught me how to play gin rummy—how about I teach you to play poker?”
A strangled laugh leaves my throat. “I think that’s fair.”
We sit down and Gavin spends a few minutes going over the basics of the game before dealing out the cards. It’s not as easy as gin rummy, but I get the hang of it after a few rounds.
And when Gavin lifts a mischievous brow and asks, “Want to make things interesting?” I know exactly what he’s doing. Not just poker. Strip poker.
That’s when I realize just how much planning has gone into tonight. Beyond buying me an expensive present. Beyond pimping out our cave. Gavin found a way to make my first time—our first time—a mix of old and new. An experience evoking our past and celebrating our future.
I’ve imagined the night Gavin and I would finally go all the way a million times. But I’d only focused on the physical aspects. Would it hurt? Will there be blood? What if I do it wrong?
It never crossed my mind that he would take such care with… everything.
But, of course, it should have.
Gavin Cross is one of a kind.
And he’s mine.

REVIEW:Julian by Michelle Heard is book four in The Trinity Academy Series.

Julian Reyes is Chairman of CRC Holdings and Trinity Academy. After stepping out of his comfort zone and having a one night stand with a mysterious young woman named Jamie, he is shocked to find out that she is actually the sister in law of his new business partner and she is set to attend Trinity Academy.
No problem, he just sets his sights on avoiding her for both their sakes.

But avoiding Jamie isn’t as easy as he thought it would be! After Jamie starts at Trinity Academy things start to get weird. She finds out someone has been watching her and their intentions are not good.

After being drugged and ending up in the hospital twice, Julian can no longer avoid being around Jamie. In fact he has come to feel very protective of her.
But finding out who is out to hurt her, soon becomes his number one priority!

Will he be able to protect Jamie and keep her safe! Or will Jamie be forced to return to New York where her family can protect her?

Julian wasn’t one of my favorite characters in the first couple of books, but he has slowly come around! I was actually excited for him to get his story. After concentrating on nothing but work the last few years, he slowly starts to open himself to his family and friends again!

And he truly cares and had concern for Jamie and I just love how their relationship evolved!

Jamie is a strong willed, smart and is a match made in heaven for Julian. Their strong wills are perfect for each other.

I was so excited for The Trinity Academy series to continue and this book did not disappoint!

I loved how the story continued right on from the previous books and kept you in the loop of with all of my favorite characters. I am also extremely excited that these books crossover (but can also stand alone) with the Enemies To Lovers book series which I will now be reading because the characters from that series are just amazing!

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date January 13, 2020

In a split second, life can steal a last breath … and derail all future plans.

While flying home after a phone call that left me heartbroken, a row to myself would have been ideal. Instead, I was unknowingly sitting shoulder to shoulder with a strikingly attractive single dad and ex-Marine. I could have pretended not to notice the man, but there was something familiar about him.

It didn’t take long before I pieced together where I knew him from or why he was back in my life.

With chaos holding me hostage, I wanted to hide but couldn’t avoid Brett Pearson, our old family friend, and my teenage crush, because he kindly offered to help out with my family’s business—The Barrel House.

Handling my father’s distillery would be a distraction from my brutal reality. Except, I never paid close attention to the art of making bourbon, unlike Brett, who was full of bourbon knowledge. He offered to teach me a thing or two, but all I could focus on was the way his lips moved when he spoke to me.

I needed to grieve, and my head was in the wrong place at the wrong time, but my heart was splitting at the seams.

Bourbon was spilled, drinks were shared, but could passion ignite from a dying last wish?

REVIEW:Bourbon Love Notes by Shari Ryan is part of The Barrell House Series.

Barrell House heiress Melody Quinn is coming home to the reality of losing her father. The bond and emotions Melody and her father share was a beautifully written storyline.

That is until she meets ex-Marine, single dad, Brett Pearson. After every time they “run” into each other she can’t deny how strikingly handsome he is, but there is something gnawingly familiar about him. Once she remembers where she knows him from (her crush from when she was a teenager) there is no chance in getting rid of him.

As he is now working at the Barrell House making Bourbon. Except he has to work along side Melody! She is trying to learn all she can about the family business. Brett simultaneously supports and challenges Melody to begin to accept the changes in her life!

Brett has residual scars from the war and Melody must try to save her family business.

Can all the obstacles in their lives align to give them the chance of happiness?

This story at times was gut wrenching and sad. Warning: Have Kleenex on the standby! Melody and her father’s relationship was beautiful and real.
I am looking forward to Journey story!

Copyright 2019 – Shari J. RyanHow can Dad be thinking about so much when he doesn’t know if there will be a tomorrow? I can’t believe he already hired someone to run the business. I can’t pretend like I ever had intentions of taking over the shop, even knowing Dad wouldn’t be able to run it forever, but the thought hadn’t crossed my mind because Dad is supposed to live well past his retirement age. Nothing has gone as I have planned since I graduated college, and while I have traveled along with the bumps in the road, everything feels like it’s crashing down on me now.
Maybe I have no business being in The Barrel House, pretending like I know everything there is to know about running a bourbon distillery.
“Melody!” It’s Brett. He’s calling after me. Doesn’t he know when a woman runs out a door, it’s probably best not to follow her?
I turn back toward the firehouse, watching him walk toward me. My instinct forces me to take a step back, which causes me to trip off the curb. I catch myself on a car, thankfully, but the car’s alarm beeps at me just to add an extra dose of humiliation to this moment.
My heart is in my throat, or maybe it’s my stomach. My head is spinning and … why did he have to come after me?
“I need to get back home. I should be with my dad,” I tell him, looking both ways to make sure I don’t get creamed by a car on top of it all. The coast is clear and I cross the street, finding my way to Mom’s car.
“Wait up for a second,” Brett continues, following me across the street. He places his hand on the door, preventing me from opening it and jumping inside. “Your dad wanted a bottle,” he says, handing me the bottle of Red Apple that Dad did, in fact, request.
“How did you—”
“He called to warn me that you were on your way down, flustered, upset, trying to be a hero, and you’d most likely forget that he requested a bottle of Red Apple.” Brett laughs sweetly, smiling benevolently. “I’m not trying to take over your family business, despite what you might be thinking. My dad has been a barrel supplier for your dad since before either of us were born. I was just asked to come help you guys out.”
“I know.” In truth, I don’t understand much of anything now. I’ve been going a mile a minute since I got that letter yesterday. I’ve been awake since five this morning, and I’m exhausted. “Thank you for coming to help,” I offer sincerely, wishing he would move his hand from my door.
“I’m sorry for what you’re going through. I wouldn’t wish this on anyone.” The look in Brett’s eyes triggers more pain in my stomach. I’m losing my dad.
“I don’t know what else to do right now other than help him, and being in his shop feels like the only way I can help,” I explain.
The backs of my eyes burn. I’m supposed to be the strong one, but I’m falling apart. I stare up to the sky, waning away the threatening tears. Keep it together, Melody. My body doesn’t respond to my command. Tears trickle, one by one and I gasp for air as my lungs feel like they are deflating. I place my hands over my face, embarrassed to be crying in front of Brett Pearson of all people, but the pain has been building, and though I let a few tears escape this morning at the airport, it clearly wasn’t enough. “I’m sorry,” I mutter.
Arms envelop me and my head falls against his firm chest. His embrace is tight and though I don’t know the adult version of Brett well enough to feel comfort from a hug, the squeeze is alleviating some of the pressure in my chest.
The rate of my breaths slow and I’m able to stop the tears from falling. Brett must notice that I’ve calmed down because his arms release from around me and he takes a step back. I don’t know what else to say or do aside from searching his worry-filled eyes as if I’d find the answer there.
He presses the pad of his thumb beneath my eye and sweeps away a remaining tear. “Take some time to process it all,” Brett says, sounding wise beyond his years. “I don’t know how long you’ve known about your Dad becoming sick again, but I doubt there’s any length of time that’s long enough to accept or adjust to that kind of news.”
“I’m going to—” I point to the car.
Brett backs away, slipping his hands into his back pockets. I close myself into the car, rest my head back, and close my eyes for a minute before starting the engine.
A knock on the window startles my eyes to reopen. Brett is standing outside of the car holding up the bottle of Red Apple. I roll the window down and retrieve the bottle. “Thank you,” I tell him. “For everything.”

It has been about six years or so since I started writing books. However, I have been journaling since I turned nine. Writing has been my outlet for stress, anxiety, and adulting. When life gets hectic, it’s fun to daydream about being in a new place or meeting different people. Of course, life doesn’t always allow for such extravagance, so I enjoy creating new worlds and characters for myself and others who either like to read, and, or need a coffee break from life.

At first, writing was about the story, but over time, it has morphed into a type of art, wanting to create realistic people and places, and now, I focus on the craft of both story telling and character development. I strive to make each book better than the last because I love to grow and learn, research, and explore new ideas.

Writing is one of my biggest joys in life, and I’m grateful for the support I have received through the years, encouraging me to push ahead and keep growing.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date January 2, 2020

After witnessing his younger brother’s death in a tragic accident, Jonathan Nelson desperately tries losing himself on the gridiron. No matter how hard he tries keeping his head above water, he’s drowning in a sea of grief. Compounding his inability to get his head on straight is Presley—the girl who had a complicated relationship with his brother, Jake, and who is pregnant with his child. At first, Jonathan only harbors resentment and animosity to Presley when she moves in with his parents. But the more the two are thrown together, the more his feelings for her begin to change, and the more confusing Jake’s loss becomes.

Presley Patterson never imagined finding out she was pregnant just a month before graduating high school. She also never fathomed losing the baby’s father to a tragic accident. Needing support for her and her unborn child, she seeks solace by moving in with Jake’s parents. She isn’t too surprised to find an adversary in Jonathan, but she isn’t about to let him ruin the first stability she’s ever experienced. Surprisingly, the animosity towards Jonathan begins to fade and is replaced by more amorous feelings. Taking a chance on Jonathan means risking the perfect world she’s built for herself and her daughter.

Can the two move on from the specter of Jake in order to find a future together, or will their wounded hearts remain unhealed?

Once having confirmation that Presley was pregnant with Jake’s child he soon realizes that he spoke out of turn and too soon! Upon apologizing to Presley they slowly come to an understanding that the most important thing in all of their lives is Jake’s child.

What started out as discontent slowly turns into friendship and then once the baby is born their love continues to grow for each other.

But I’m the one who gets stuck with Mason Chargill, the star of most women’s fantasies but my nightmare. One of the heirs to CRC Holdings, he might be dangerously gorgeous, but his cold and callous demeanor makes him an ice prince.

He expects me to abide by the Academy’s hierarchy, to be at his constant beck and call.
Yeah, right… hell will freeze over before that ever happens.

Unfortunately for him, I’m no pushover.
Unfortunately for me, he’s determined to break me.

If only there were a way to melt the shard of ice he calls a heart.

REVIEW Mason is book two in the Trinity Academy series by Michelle Heard. Mason Chargill, Falcon Reyes and Lake Cutler have been best friends since childhood. They are the heir apparents to CRC Holdings and the gods of Trinity Academy. Trinity Academy is an elite school for only the extremely wealthy. Mason and his friends have everyone’s utmost respect. They should – their grandfathers started Trinity Academy.

Mason Chargill is the next President of CRC Holdings and he knows his place in the world. But at Trinity Academy he is one of the most sought after bachelors. Mason is a no nonsense, tends to be a sarcastic ass, but yet gorgeous as all get out. That’s why he is fawned over by every girl at Trinity Academy. His gruff and abrupt personality leaves many to think his heart is a block of ice, but deep down he truly is the kindest of souls, with a lot of baggage.

Mason has chosen his assistant, a one Kingsley Hunt. And for the first time ever he has met his match. While Kingsley is somewhat scared of Mason and his constant antagonizing, she squares up and lets him know that she will not be at his beckon call or answer to his every whim. This completely intrigues Mason. He has never had a woman stand up to him the way Kingsley does. And the back and forth between them will leave you laughing out loud.

Mason has a ton of baggage, he lost his sister in an auto accident, he harbors guilt that he could of saved his sister but didn’t. Even though there is no reason for Mason to feel the way he does, it was an accident. He still harbors these feelings and they keep him locked behind a mask that he portrays to the world. While he enjoys giving Kingsley a hard time, he slowly begins to enjoy having her around and having someone put him in his place when need be But, it takes almost losing Kingsley to make him realize that he has feelings for her.

Mason Chargill is the complete ass that you want to love. You want to break through his tough exterior and get to the gooey center. And this book does just that. In book one he is cocky and arrogant but you know there is a reason behind the way he acts. His friends are loyal and would die for Mason, so you know there is something good in there – somewhere.

This book dives you right into what makes Mason tick and in the end you fall completely head over heels in love with him. The trauma of his past and what makes him Mason is gut wrenching and at times heartbreaking to read. Not even going to lie, I cried. I cried a lot at the pain Mason was feeling and what it took for him to face his trauma. He is such a complex character that you just can’t wait for him to open his heart and let Kingsley in.

Kingsley Hunt doesn’t come from old money. In fact, trying to find her place at Trinity hasn’t been easy. She knows she doesn’t fit into their world. But she is going to make the most of what she has. Kingsley has become best friends with Layla. Falcon’s girlfriend, which puts her right in the firing line for Mason. But, Kingsley just doesn’t take Mason’s crap from the get go. She dishes everything he gives right back to him. She also makes you want to become her best friend and hang out and eat snacks all day. I love that all of the main characters are completely loyal to each other. That no matter what they are there for each other.

This series has been a whirlwind of emotions. You know those cocky rich guys that you want to hate. But once you crack their inner circle you start to realize that they have their own issues and problems. And they deal with them on a daily basis just like everyone else. I have completely fallen for the men of Trinity Academy!

I just want to add that Michelle Heard has now become the reigning queen of cliffhangers. Book ones cliffhanger was like UGH…. Ok… Can’t wait for book two. But this books cliffhanger left me shocked and bewildered and cursing Queen Heard. Because seriously – who does that to someone! I mean I should have expected. It but absolutely did not see it coming – flying out of left field to smack me right in the face. Well played… Well played….

“We need to talk.”

“Oh-kaaay,” she points to where her suite is. “You want to come in?”

I gesture for her to walk ahead.

When we walk into her suite, she goes to place the bag on the coffee table, while I shut the door. I take a couple of steps deeper into the room.

“I’ve been looking for you.”

She digs through the bag and pulls out a lollipop. “I went to the store. Needed to restock my candy stash. I was supposed to go last night, but yeah, you know what happened.”

Unwrapping the candy, she pops it in her mouth. “Want one,” she mumbles around it.

“You seriously don’t care what people think about you, do you?”

She shrugs and sitting down on the couch, she points to the other couch. Taking the candy from her mouth, she says, “Sit.”

Yeah, let’s get this over and done with. I walk to the couch and sitting down, I rest my forearms on my knees and lock eyes with her.

“Are you going to tell the entire Academy we slept together?”

REVIEW: Falcon by Michelle Heard is book one in the Trinity Academy Series.

Falcon Reyes, Lake Cutler and Mason Chargill best friends since childhood. They are the heir apparents to CRC Holdings and the gods of Trinity Academy.

Trinity Academy is an elite school for only the extremely wealthy. Falcon and his friends have everyone’s utmost respect. They should – their grandfathers started Trinity Academy. And this is their last year before joining the legacy of their fore fathers.

This year everyone is vying to be these three young men’s assistants. Everyone that is, except for Layla Shepard. Layla’s mother Stephanie is assistant to Falcon’s father Grayson Reyes, CEO of CRC Holdings. And she has received a free ride to Trinity. She knows she doesn’t belong in their world, but she needs this to get her degree in journalism. She just wants to stay below the radar and not let anyone find out she doesn’t come from money.

That is until a twist of fate has Falcon deciding that Layla will be his assistant. Layla wants nothing to do with any of this, she just wants to study and mind her own business. But by becoming Falcon’s assistant she is now front page news and not everyone is happy about it.

At the start of the book Falcon and his friends come off as quite conceited and overpowering. But once Layla comes into all of their lives you can see them slowly shift to the true men they are. The ones that have hidden themselves from the reputation they try to portray.

Obviously money can’t buy you happiness. And Falcon has a life of luxury and everything he ever wanted. But what he truly wants is someone to brighten up the world that he sees as only black and white. Once he chooses Layla as his assistant and she doesn’t cower or just simply fall at his feet. He starts to see her as something other than the charity case her father helped get into Trinity.

Layla is strong and opinionated, but she also sees the world much differently than Falcon. And when she starts to show him other ways of looking at situations, his eyes begin to open and a whole new world appears to him.

I loved everything about this book. I loved the beginning where Falcon and his friends were almost obnoxious and carefree. Going about their lives without a care in the world. I loved Kingsley for become Layla’s first friend at Trinity and for sticking by her once she knew her background and how she came to be at Trinity. I loved Lake in all his amazing greatness. He is the bond that holds the friends together and he would do anything for Falcon and Mason. I loved Mason in a his beautiful, brutal honestly.

You can see the pain and the hurt seeping from every page that contains Mason. I cannot wait to read Mason’s and Lake’s books. A wonderful book that shows you that money isn’t the root of happiness and that you can’t judge a book by its cover.

A wonderful quick read – that will leave you wanting more. And the ending of book one – I seriously was left blindsided. Book two cannot come soon enough.

Highly recommend.

“You have to pull away. I’m not strong enough to let you go,” he whispers, and it feels as if the words carry a deeper meaning.I lower my legs and squeeze myself out from the space between Falcon and the wall. With a trembling hand, I try to straighten my hair before I open the door. Blocking the inside of my suite with my body, I say, “I’m going to have to miss today’s class. Can you take notes for me?”

A slow smile spreads over Kingsley’s face. “Sure. We can exchange notes later, although I bet yours will be much more interesting than mine.”

I stick my tongue out at her, which only makes her laugh as she walks away. “Enjoy it.”

I shake my head as I close the door and turning around, I lean back against it.

Falcon is still standing exactly where I left him, bracing himself with hands against the wall. I let my eyes glide over the wide expanse of his back, his trim waist, perfect butt, and strong legs.

There’s so much power in this man.

Not only is he physically strong, but he has the kind of influence most people can’t even begin to imagine.

And me… I’m an eighteen-year-old girl who managed to make him lose control
