ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date April 1, 2014

In the latest Shifters Unbound novel, a man has resigned himself to a life half lived. But a beautiful, courageous woman has him longing for something more…

Graham McNeil knows that his pack is unruly, but he’s not sure he can take the next step toward pack stability. After losing his first mate long ago, Graham has worked hard to keep his heart in check. Besides, even if he was inclined to choose a new mate, his girlfriend, Misty, is human—a fact that won’t sit well with Graham’s old-fashioned pack.

But Misty is going through a crisis of her own, one that brings danger and death to the pack. With the wolves doubly convinced that there needs to be a shake-up, Graham must now defend his leadership and save the woman he has grown to love—before Shiftertown is pulled into an all-out war.

REVIEW: WILD WOLF is the sixth full length instalment in Jennifer Ashley’s contemporary, adult, paranormal Shifters Unbound series focusing on the shifters and their mates from Shiftertown, USA. Like many shifter storylines, Jennifer Ashley’s shifters are persecuted and discriminated against by the humans but the humans have help in their attempts to bring the shifters under control. This is wolf alpha Graham McNeil and the human female Misty’s story.

The storyline follows Graham and Misty as they fall victim to those trying to take control of the shifters. When Misty’s floral business comes under attack, she calls Graham for help only to discover that they have been drawn into a trap where powerful forces are at work. Not only does the government try to control the shifters but, so too, does another supernatural species looking to take back what they lost in the past.

Jennifer Ashley continues to pull the reader into a story where the collared shifters become pawns in a world run by the governments who have perpetrated the persecution of the shifters because of their differences and similarities. We watch as discrimination sets the tone for an entire species because they are misunderstood and present too many unanswered questions.

WILD WOLF brings the Shifter Unbound series on the cusp of a new direction with the integration of a potentially new hybrid species and a war with a supernatural power who have slowly found their way into the shifter population. Many of the previous storyline characters play pivotal roles throughout the story as well as the introduction of future storyline characters and a new supernatural power not previously known to the readers.

Jennifer Ashley has written a suspense-filled and revealing storyline. With the introduction of two new supernatural powers and an upcoming war that has been building for several books, Jennifer takes the reader into a world where trying to fit in is made impossible by predisposing stereotypes and discriminating individuals who want nothing more than to bring the shifters under their control.

Until an unforgettable night with tall, dark and tortured Mac Draper gives her a glimpse of what true happiness feels like.

••••••••••••••••••••••••

REVIEW: THE DAY HE KISSED HER is the third instalment in Juliana Stone’s adult, contemporary, erotic Bad Boys of Crystal Lake series focusing on a tight knit group of family and friends-Jake & Jesse Edwards, Cain Black and MacKenzie Draper. This is MacKenzie and Lily’s storyline. Keeping everyone at arm’s length, Mac has finally met a woman he can love, but the past is ugly and Mac fears that he may be more like his father than he ever thought. Lily is Jake Edwards best friend and she has been welcomed into the family as one of their own.

The storyline follows Mac and Lily who had previously met several months earlier. After a night of drunken sex, each go their separate ways only to meet again, at the Edward’s Memorial Day celebration. Believing she was nothing more than a one-night stand, Lily desperately attempts to hide but Mac remembers everything about Lily and that special night. Hoping for a do-over, Mac pursues Lily until they become lovers-but nothing more. Mac doesn’t do relationships or love and, he is more than willing to let Lily know exactly where he stands.

The relationship between Mac and Lily rekindles an attraction to one another that neither has experience before. But Mac’s family history has shrouded his heart and his soul in a dark and dangerous curtain where he hides a multitude of emotional and physical scars that have left him incapable of love. He believes he is not worthy and when the past begins to resurface in the next generation of family, Mac begins to pulls away from the only woman he has ever loved.

THE DAY HE KISSED HER is a storyline that focuses on a family history of abuse and neglect: a family whereby the parents enable one another’s sins and where the children are left unprotected from the monster who is supposed to love and protect. This is a story where history begins to repeat itself and where one man refuses to give up on the people that he loves. But sometimes, in the end, you have to walk away when the person who was supposed to protect you, looks the other way, and does nothing to save themselves.

Juliana Stone pulls the reader into an intense storyline of heartbreak and betrayal; love and letting go; acceptance and moving on. Julian writes a story that is emotional and heartbreaking; a story that may be all too familiar to many readers; but a story that ends with a HEA.

excerpt

Mackenzie Draper woke up with a throbbing head, a dry mouth, and an ache in his neck that hurt like hell.
Vague memories of the Coach House, his buddies Cain and Jake, some loud, crazy band, and a bottle of tequila floated in his mind.
Or maybe it was two bottles of tequila.
Not that it mattered. Mac was sporting the worst hangover ever, and even though it had nothing to do with Crystal Lake—-and everything to do with his weakness for tequila—-his first thought was that he shouldn’t have come home.
Things never went well when he came back to Crystal Lake, and after all this time—-and with his bastard father in jail—-it was still hard.
With a groan, Mac rolled out of bed and wondered why the hell he did it.
It was late morning, Friday of the Memorial Day long weekend, and Mac had arrived home the night before, hence the catching up with his buddies and the endless shots of tequila.
Damn. He knew better. Tequila always knocked him on his ass.
His nose wrinkled. He smelled like a brewery and was still in his clothes from the night before—-he was pretty damn sure he looked like crap. Mac stumbled down the hall, wincing and cursing when he stubbed his toe on an uneven floorboard.
He ran fingers over the two–day–old stubble on his chin, rolled his shoulders, and groaned. The muscles were tight, but then again, everything was tight and sore.
With a scowl, he glanced back toward his room. Damn mattress. He was used to sleeping on the king–sized dream at his place in New York City, not the IKEA crap from his teen years.
“Shit,” he murmured, wincing again as his neck creaked. There was a time when the floor between the Edwards twins’ beds had been good enough for him. Hell, he’d spent many a night sleeping there when things got out of hand at home.
God, is this what it felt like to be old?
The family homestead was a modest bungalow with three bedrooms, a kitchen, a small dining room, and a TV room finishing off the main floor. The place hadn’t seen a fresh coat of paint in years, and the wallpaper in the hall was curling in the corners. The roof needed done and if the windows weren’t replaced soon, the frames would rot.
It was a mess, and he doubted the additional three bedrooms in the basement or the small recreational room was faring any better.
When he was a kid, he spent most of his time down there—-anything to avoid his father, or rather, his father’s fists. Back then, the house had seemed so damn small—-so damn suffocating—-it was hard to believe that anything could grow or thrive inside the four walls
that made up the Draper residence. No wonder he escaped as much as he could. Hanging with the Edwards twins and
Cain Black had been his salvation. He glanced around the house, feeling as tired as it looked. With only his mother puttering about, the place seemed empty and quiet. Too quiet.
Mac needed noise, the hustle and bustle of the city, the sounds of people, music, and cabs.
He needed noise to shut out the quiet moments, because when it was quiet, it was way too easy to think and remember. And Mac didn’t want to remember.
He wasn’t alone in that sentiment. His five siblings were gone. They’d all left as soon as they could, and other than his younger sister, Becca, he was the only one who came home to visit. The long distance thing seemed to work for everyone else.
Mac paused and leaned against the door frame that led to the kitchen, watching his mother roll out dough. She wore simple clothes—-a white cotton blouse, with faded blue and red roses, tucked into plain white shorts that fell exactly one inch above the knee. The colors had faded, but they were clean and pressed, with no creases.
Her long hair, as blond as Mac’s and showing no sign of gray, was knotted loosely at her nape. She was petite—-trim—-and from this angle, she looked exactly like the mother he remembered from his youth. It wasn’t until she glanced up and he caught sight of the sadness in her eyes, the wrinkles of worry etched into her brow, that he saw her age.
Age and heartache that had been put there by his father.
Just thinking of Ben Draper made Mac’s gut clench, and it took some effort for him to ease out of the anger that ate at him. He breathed in and out, nice and easylike, and managed a half–assed smile for his mother.
She smiled back, but it quickly faded when her eyes narrowed and she pursed her lips. She continued to roll her dough.
“Late night, Mackenzie?” There was disapproval in her voice and, dammit, even after all this time—-he was thirty–five for Christ’s sake—-he felt like that kid who’d just got caught with his hand in the cookie jar.
Her husband was a mean drunk, and he got that she didn’t like Mac overindulging, but still…it was kind of ironic that she would call him out for having a bit too much tequila when she never said a word to Ben.
Mind you, if she did, she’d see the back of Ben’s hand, but there must have been a point in their relationship when she could have stopped him.
Heat swirled in his gut as a bunch of memories ran through him and none of them were good. Jesus, he needed to shut this shit down right now. There was no point in
rehashing the past. He shoved it all aside and crossed to the fridge, grabbing a carton of juice.
“Is that for the Edwardses’?” he asked.
He poured himself a large glass and turned around to lean against the kitchen counter, his gaze on his mother as she methodically kneaded the dough.
“Yes. I’m making a raspberry pie for you to take when you go.”
He waited a few seconds. He’d spent every Friday before Memorial Day at the Edwardses’ for their annual friends and family barbecue. He always asked his mother to join him.
“So, you’re not coming with me.” It was a statement, because he already knew the answer.
She continued kneading the dough, her movements slow and precise. “No, honey. I’ve got more baking to do for the church bazaar, and I promised Mrs. Linden that I’d help her clean her house.” She glanced up, though her smile didn’t quite reach her eyes. “She’s getting on and needs an extra set of hands. I’ve been helping her out ever since Maggie left town.”
Mackenzie knew better than to press the issue. His mother wouldn’t come.
Once, long before he was born, Lila McCann had run in the same social circles as the Edwardses. In fact, she’d dated Steven Edwards briefly…then Ben Draper had come into the picture and Lila’s life took a turn.
A wrong turn. A wrong fucking U–turn away from anything good that she’d ever had.
Her parents had stood by her—-even when she’d become pregnant with Mac’s older brother, Benjamin Jr.—-and had footed the bill for an extravagant wedding. His grandparents had died in a car accident about a month before Benjamin was born, and Mac had never met them.
His great–grandmother, however, was a bright light in an otherwise bleak childhood. It was only because of Grams that any of the kids went to college, and it was only because of Grams that the roof over their head stayed in their hands and not the bank’s. His great–grandmother was nearing her ninetieth year and still right as rain.
He didn’t want to consider what would have happened to the Draper kids if not for her.

UNCAGED (Corps Security 3.5) by Harper Sloan

ABOUT THE BOOK: Released March 11, 2014

Greg Cage’s life is more fulfilling than he ever could have imagined. He’s married to the love of his life, has an amazing son, and in a few short months, his family will grow again with the birth of his twin girls.

The past year has been a tough one for the Cage family, but they are now on the road to healing by learning to let go of the past and looking forward to their future.

When situations beyond his control threaten to take away so much of what Greg holds close to his heart, he has to learn that he doesn’t always have the control he tries to maintain in their lives. Will he be able to handle the stress of knowing his wife and newborn daughters are beyond his protection?

Join the Cage family as they embark on yet another one of life’s journeys with a rambunctious four-year-old, pregnancy complications, and the fear of the unknown.

Will the love that Greg and Melissa share hold true as they fight to overcome the obstacles that face them?

UNCAGED is not a standalone. It is a continuation of CAGE. It is recommended that you read the first 3 books in the series before UNCAGED.

••••••••••••••••••••••••

REVIEW: UNCAGED is the latest instalment in Harper Sloan’s adult, contemporary CORPS SECURITY erotic series focusing on a group of former marines and the women they love. This is the continuing story of Greg ‘Cage’ and Melissa Larson. At the end of book 2 CAGE, Greg and Melissa has expanded their family by adopting Melissa’s nephew Cohen and discovering that that they are expecting a child of their own. The storyline advances the series by approximately one year but oh, the epilogue, is another story, all together.

UNCAGED is an erotic storyline that looks at two people who have survived the loss of family; the loss of friends and now the possibility of losing everything in a matter of a few seconds. Greg Cage is first and foremost a protector and when the unthinkable occurs, Cage is a man lost in a world of sorrow, heartbreak and the hopelessness of the unknown. Without the ability to control the outcome, a once strong and powerful man caves to the possibility that life as he knows it is about to end.

Told from three distinct first person POV-Cage, Melissa and Cohen-the world building continues with the inclusion of the Corps Security team and their mates as well as their flamboyant neighbor Sway and the love of his life Davey. Four year old Cohen comes front and center as his world is about to change but it is the epilogue that will have you shaking your head with what’s in store for the future.

Harper Sloan pulls the reader into a storyline where the possibility of a HEA is in question; where the Corps team is helpless to protect; and where the strength of friendship and family is the one thing on which you can depend. The relationship between Melissa and Cage continues to be sensual, sexual and erotic. Cage is a man possessed by one woman and this possession may very well be his ultimate undoing.

UNCAGED is a fast paced story but does not leave the reader with whiplash. The storyline feels complete without the rush of many novellas where the author is too quick to the finish. There is a definitive beginning, middle and end. And like the blurb says, this is not a stand alone novella-you must read the first three storylines to understand the premise and everything that has come before.

Escape / Longing by Chelsea Dorsette-a review

Escape and Longing

4 out of 5 for this reader folks!

WOWSA … that was some delicious smut. I’ll be honest, not too much character development or plot, in Escape as this book is primarily a collection of short stories, but her book Longing most assuredly had character development and a plot. I’ll also say, if you are in the mood for some straight up hot reading, Chelsea Dorsette is your kind of author.

Both Longing and Escape (two different books that have nothing to do with the other) are quick reads that deliver tingles in all the right places. Chelsea gets right to the point in her writing, and is very creative with her sex scenes. I really appreciate a creative side in an erotica author because let’s face it, how many different ways can a sex scene be written without boring the reader?!

For those that have boundaries, I will tell you that there are BDSM elements, one night stands, sexting, graphic language, lots of dirty talk and so much more. If you are not comfortable with that kind of reading then you most definitely need to take a pass. If you like a hot and dirty story, then read on! LOL

DESCRIPTION

What starts as an innocent Facebook flirtation between Doug in New Hampshire and Tracy in Maine, ends up turning into a steamy romance. After a month of naughty sexting and erotic Skyping, Doug and Tracy finally get to meet in person, and that’s when the sparks really start to fly! Tracy gets taken to new heights of sexual pleasure and exploration as Doug introduces her to spanking and sex toys, while satisfying his sexual appetites with her in many unique positions and locations. But just when things couldn’t get more sexy between them, they are faced with a threat that could break them apart…forever.

REVIEW

Our leading lady Tracy receives a Facebook friend request from our leading guy Doug. Doug claims they know each other from school many years ago, and Tracy admits to herself that she is most certainly curious. Soon enough emails are exchanged back and forth which then escalates to phone chatting and exchanging of some naughty pics. They indulge in dirty talk and then agree that it’s time to meet in person!

The fires have already been stoked for the past month, so it’s no surprise that when they finally meet, we have an explosion of sorts. As each encounter begins to get more and more intense (these two love to play), and our couple begins to engage in every day life together, these two come to realize that they have much more than sexual chemistry in common. Will physical distance keep these two apart, or will they do all they can to give this relationship a true go?

Escape is a collection of steamy erotic short stories in which characters enjoy unbridled lust in all sorts of unconventional locations. Chelsea Dorsette breathes new life into the world of erotica by breaking away from the conventional storyline, and has created sexy new scenarios with characters from all professions and sexual preferences. Her detailed and engaging stories will leave you feeling like you’re part of the action.

REVIEW

I REALLY enjoyed this novella. Better yet, a collection of short steamy stories. This is a set of the naughtiest fantasies coming true. Not so conventional and definitely HOT! Our characters have encounters in hotels, counter tops, limos … etc. I can’t choose a fave as they all brought something yummy and different to the table, but if you asked me which one stood out the most, I would have to say “The Limo”! One sexy female executive has one sexual encounter with two fellow sexy male executives in the back of a limo. SMOKIN’ HOT!

Each short story brings something a little different and I love that Chelsea mixes it up! A little menage, BDSM, voyeurism etc … this collection of stories is a keeper!

DRIVE ME CRAZY (Shaken Dirty #2) by Tracy Wolff

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date February 24, 2014

His rival’s in his bed, and this rocker is ready to play.

Former rivals Quinn Bradford and Elise McKinney are not friends, at least not anymore. As teens, all they cared about was psyching each other out before concerts. But when Quinn—now the keyboardist for Shaken Dirty, the hottest rock band on the scene—returns to his hometown and hears about the car accident that shattered Elise’s career, he’s determined to make things right.

Elise wants nothing to do with an arrogant rock star, despite how bad she so clearly wants him, so Quinn kidnaps the stubborn little piano player and whisks her back to his mansion. A little seduction might be just the thing to keep Elise under his care…and in his bed. But amid pranks both childish and very adult, their past comes rearing back to haunt them. And it might be more than either of them can forget.

*******************

REVIEW: DRIVE ME CRAZY is the second instalment in Tracy Wolff’s contemporary, adult, erotic Shaken Dirty romance series. The series focuses on the members of the rock group Shaken Dirty. This is keyboardist Quinn Bradford and classical pianist Elise McKinney’s story-a second chance at love tale with a friends to lovers premise. As teens, Quinn and Elise had been rivals on the concert pianist circuit until the day Quinn walked away following an accident where Quinn blamed himself for Elise’s injuries. Fast forward ten years-Quinn is a member of one of the most successful and hottest rock bands and Elise is back on his radar-only this time she has been injured following a fatal traffic accident that left her manager dead- now Quinn wants Elise back in his life.

The premise of the storyline is on Elise’s recovery and the possibility she may never play the piano at the same level before the accident. With her hand badly damaged and the potential for a career ending injury, Elise finds herself living with the man with whom she had fallen in love over ten years earlier. Elise has lost everyone and everything that she has loved in the previous year and when Quinn reenters her life, she is frightened of losing –all over again. But Quinn’s history with Elise is not all flowers and candy, and the reason he left so abruptly will come full circle when Elise, once again, becomes collateral damage in a fight amongst the band.

The relationship between Elise and Quinn is sexy and sensual as well as humorous when the pair reconnect through pranks and comedic situations. Let’s just say you will never again look at a Twinkie or a ‘bedazzler’ the same way. Elise has loved Quinn since they were teens and she is hoping that they have both matured to the point that neither will run when the going gets tough.

The world building continues with the inclusion of most of the previous storyline characters including the members of Shaken Dirty. The problems with drugs, alcohol and jealousy follow the band from one story to the next and I don’t think we have seen the last of Micah and his attempts to destroy his former mates.

DRIVE ME CRAZY is a fast paced storyline about two people who have been given a second chance at friendship and love. This is also a story about betrayal and trust; pain and healing and, the price of fame. Tracy Wolff writes a delicious story of finding love and never letting go.

About the book: Release Date March 4, 2014

Julie Masterson craves a taste of danger.

Despite being familiar with the different games people play in the bedroom, she’s never given in to her curiosity about putting her body in someone else’s power—until a chance meeting with Daniel Covington, the seductive Senior VP of Weston Bank, draws her into a titillating new world of sexual experience, one that she never knew she desperately needed.

Daniel is highly respected within his community, but he hasn’t had an exclusive relationship for over two years. Yet Julie’s eager innocence is driving him to the brink of ecstasy, making him rethink his feelings about commitment.

As their sizzling connection heats up, Daniel is ready to take Julie fully under his command. But when the dangerous side of their play rears its ugly head, Julie will have to decide if she trusts him enough to surrender completely—or if she should escape before she gets burned…

••••••••••••••••••••••

REVIEW: SEDUCED BY FIRE is the first instalment in Tara Sue Me’s new, contemporary, erotic, BDSM series-Partners in Play. If you have read Tara’s The Submissive Trilogy much of the premise and plot is very similar although each instalment in the Partners in Play series may feature a different leading couple. This is Julie Masterson and Daniel Covington’s story-young independent woman meets gorgeous, rich man and the sparks fly.

The storyline follows Julie as she embarks on a relationship with the sexy and well to do Daniel Covington. Little does Julie know but Daniel is a senior Dom-a well positioned member in the local Dom/sub lifestyle and Daniel wants more from Julie than she may be willing to give. When Julie discovers the truth about Daniel, she realizes that perhaps she has been a submissive in the bedroom all of her life. With her best friend Sasha ( also a sub), Julie will begin to explore a different side of the bedroom and one that will break her heart when a darker side of the lifestyle emerges.

The relationship between Daniel and Julie is quick to build. From friends to lovers to something much more, Julie will soon lose her heart to a man who may not be able to give her everything she wants. The love making is sensual; the sex is hot and hard; and the relationship will come to a screeching halt when someone close gets in too deep. My only complaint-I didn’t feel the love between our leading characters. The relationship felt two sided in that Daniel wanted to dominate and Julie wanted to love.

Tara Sue Me has written a storyline that will pull you into the back rooms, play rooms and dungeons of the Dom/sub relationships. There are some graphic BDSM descriptive encounters, some detailed explanations as to the expectations and requirements in the Dom/sub exchange and a cast of secondary characters that will break your heart when the lifestyle overwhelms and sucks them under.

SEDUCED BY FIRE is another erotic and edgy storyline-a little darker than Tara Sue Me’s previous series-but one that will end with a HEA (for now).

GIVE IN TO ME (Heart of Stone #3) by K.M. Scott

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date February 10, 2014

The third book in the Heart of Stone series concludes the sensual and emotional story of Tristan and Nina that began in Crash Into Me and continued in Fall Into Me…

Tristan Stone has lived a life other men would kill for. Literally. But all the money, women, and fast cars mean nothing to him since Nina came into his life. Danger lurks around every turn with enemies wearing friendly faces. Whatever it takes, he’ll protect the woman he loves because without her, life isn’t worth living.

Nina Edwards had no idea of the world Tristan would give her. All her dreams have come true, but with the good comes the bad, and this world of his has more than enough of that. For love, though, she’ll face not only Tristan’s demons but anyone who stands in her way of finally finding happiness with the man she loves.

••••••••••••••••••••

REVIEW: GIVE IN TO ME is the third storyline in KM Scott’s adult, contemporary, erotic Heart of Stone series focusing on reclusive billionaire Tristan Stone and art curator Nina Edwards. It has been four months since Tristan walked away from Nina and in the ensuing time they are no closer to uncovering the ‘why’ behind the threats against Tristan and everyone he loves. When everything links back to Tristan’s past, Nina finds herself under twenty four hour guard in order to ensure her safety and Tristan’s whereabouts, to her, are still unknown.

The storyline follows Nina’s attempts to live a normal life while the man that she loves is refusing to acknowledge her existence. Tristan’s need to protect Nina from his past forces the man to go into hiding but results in heartbreaking sorrow and dissolution for the only woman who has ever found his heart. When Tristan demands Nina move on with her life, the stakes become deadly and force Tristan to come out of hiding to reclaim the woman that he loves and his rightful spot as CEO. Too many lies and hidden secrets have damaged his tentative hold on Nina’s heart and one more will push Nina away-possibly for ever.

The world building continues with revelations about Tristan and Nina’s family; their connections to one another; and a history of betrayal, infidelity and broken hearts. The mystery surrounding the threats against Tristan, coupled with a walk through family photographs and memories will reveal that Tristan was wrong on so many counts.

KM Scott pulls the reader into a storyline of suspense and mystery; where one man uncovers the truth about his family’s past but a truth that is easier to accept than what he had previously come to believe. REVIEW

3.5 out of 5 for this reader folks!

Before getting into this review, I am going to say that this book is not for the easily offended. This was a harder erotica novel with explicit sex scenes, language and many a head game. If this kind of reading is not your cup of tea, I will dare say that you will not enjoy this book. If it is your cup of tea, or you are okay to push your personal reading boundaries, then check out my review!

The Initiation of Ms Holly by K.D. Grace is a contemporary erotic novel set in London England, present time. We meet our leads right away as they have a rather “chocolate intense” encounter when the passenger train they are travelling on loses power and submerges everyone in the dark. Plucked right out of a naughty fantasy, this er ..”joining”, leads to a number exchange and a journey that was crazy hot.

Rita Holly cannot stop thinking about her encounter with Edward. When she receives a text to meet him at the mysterious “Mount Club”, she is fascinated and terrified all at the same time. She learns that Edward is not only a member of the “Mount Club” but he has also requested that Rita be initiated into the club. Rita, while completely gobsmacked, is intrigued and finds she is a tad eager to complete her initiation training. While convinced by her boss to do a journal expose on The Mount Club, Rita also begins to bond with the members making her choices harder and harder. Edward also is forced to be slightly elusive and most assuredly secretive by the truely bitchy high counsel member Vivienne. Rita doesn’t understand why Edward must do all Vivienne says. The deeper Rita becomes involved in her initiation process, the more secrets are revealed. Is all this worth it?? This is a question that Rita must answer for herself.

Ok … so .. lots of sex. I mean LOTS of sex. Lots of role play, kink, menage, and same sex. Character development was on the weaker side due to all of this sex. I had a bit of a disconnect with Rita and Edward because of all that was going on and how fast their relationship happened. I will tell you this however … BRILLIANT VILLAIN! Vivienne was the character that I love to hate, and she was so screwed up and such a first class ^&%% she stole this book and over shadowed every one else. The secrets revealed in this book were awesome as well, and towards the end I was high fiving K.D. Grace’s and her way of pulling the entire story together.

So if you love a serious smutty read, check this one out.

Why a good proof reader is necessary

First of all, I’d like to thank the lovely folks at The Reading Café for having me over. It’s truly a pleasure to be here. I’d like to share four reasons why I think a good proof reader is so important to an author.

INo-Mistakes.gif’m very good at self-editing. I don’t send out a manuscript that isn’t as clean as I can make it. I’m sure that’s something all writers strive to do. If the manuscript isn’t clean, it reflects badly on me as an author; it shows lack of respect for my editor, and it detracts from the star of the show – my story. With every novel, novella and short story I write, I read my final edit out loud. I often go through the manuscript from the last chapter to the first so my brain can’t fill in what’s supposed to be there, but isn’t. The bottom line is, no matter how good I am at self-editing, there are things I miss. From time to time, my brain does fill in what I expect to be there. Usually what my brain misses is something obvious, something someone looking with fresh eyes would catch immediately, something I would catch immediately if I were looking at someone else’s manuscript. On top of that, we all have weak areas in our basic writing skills. I know that punctuation is my weak point. My lack of confidence with commas can easily be offset with a good look-see by someone else who is more punctuation savvy.

The second reason it’s important to have a good proof reader is that it makes everyone else’s job easier. By everyone else, I’m speaking specifically of the editor who’ll have to read the finished manuscript. Clean manuscripts make everyone happy and showcase the story rather than the scaffolding on which the story’s built.

proofreading2Thirdly, I’m sure I’m not the only one ever to read a novel that’s been poorly edited. Mistakes get through. It’s true. We’re all only human, but the more mistakes that get through the editing process, the more attention is drawn to the scaffolding and away from the story itself. The one thing we writers NEVER want is anything that will draw our readers’ attention away from the story we’re telling. We want our babies to shine with pacey plots, interesting characters and fantastic settings. We don’t want our babies to be tarnished by typos, grammar and punctuation errors or worse. With the meteoric rise of self-publishing, lack of proof reading and poor editing is a much more common problem than it used to be. In most cases the writer and the editor are the same person. Under those circumstances it’s crucial to have a good proof reader who is someone else.

The final reason why a good proof reader is so important is that a writer spends a whole lot of time and energy creating a story she hopes will intrigue, entertain, and even inspire. It’s safe to say that, on average, a novel of 80-100 thousand words is at the very least, six months’ worth of hard work and quite often much more. All writers know the kind of blood, sweat and tears that go into making their story shine. A novel is way too much work to send it out the door without making sure the story being told is polished and pristine, spiffed up and ready to dazzle.

A science teacher I knew used to start every year reminding his students that first impressions are lasting impressions. Nothing could be truer for fiction writers. If our novel, novella or short story has had a good proof reading, then the story will leave the lasting impression, not the lack of proofing.

He practically fell on top of Rita, his hand grazing her left breast in the complete darkness. She yelped and grabbed him to keep from losing her balance.

“God, I’m sorry!” He gasped. “Bloody nuisance, this, isn’t it?” His voice was warm, melodious, by far the most pleasant thing that had happened to Rita since she left Paris. “Oh dear. You’re trembling. Are you all right?”

“I’m claustrophobic” her words were thin and shaky, as though she didn’t fully trust herself to let them out. “It wouldn’t be so bad if I didn’t know where we are.” For an embarrassing moment, she realized she was still clinging to him, but the embarrassment passed, and suddenly she didn’t care. If they were going to die trapped in a train in the Eurostar tunnel, buried beneath a gazillion gallons of water, she’d just as soon not do it alone.

He either understood, or was too polite to leave her in such distress. He wrapped his arms around her engulfing her in a muscular embrace, the scent of which was maleness barely masked by deodorant and some spicy cologne, both fading at the end of a day much longer than either of them had anticipated. “Don’t worry.” In the darkness, he misjudged the distance between them and his lips brushed her earlobe. “It’s just an electrical malfunction. Anyway we’re better off down here than in the snowstorm up above. Sounds like all of London is shut down. Who’d have expected snow this late in the spring? Never mind that, where else do you get the chance to cuddle strangers in the dark?”

He pressed a little closer to her, and she was relieved to find other thoughts, thoughts more welcome than those of their predicament, pushing their way into her head. He felt good, broad-shouldered and tall, easy to lean on.

“Why are you huddled here in the corner rather than hunkered down in your seat?”

She concentrated on his warm breath pressing against the top of her ear. “I was on my way back from the loo when the lights went out and…”

“And this is as far as you got.”

She nodded against his chest, homing in on the reassuring sound of his heartbeat.

“Shall I help you back to your seat then?”

The train lurched forward, and she yelped again, tightening her grip around his neck. “No, please. It’s better if I just don’t move.”

There was a long pause. “Do you want me to stay with you?”

She realized the poor man had little choice clenched in her strangle hold, as he was. “I don’t want to be any trouble,” she lied.

He readjusted his stance and tightened his embrace. “No trouble at all. I can’t think of a better way to pass the time than in the arms of a beautiful woman. You are beautiful, aren’t you?”

In spite of the stress she felt, she forced a laugh. “Gorgeous, actually. Too bad you can’t see for yourself.”

He ran a hand down the contour of her spine to rest low on the small of her back. “I don’t have to see you to admire you.”

The thought that the man was rather cheeky barely crossed her mind before he lifted her fingers to his lips and planted a warm kiss across the back of her knuckles. “I’m Edward. I’m from London. Clearly you’re not.”

“Rita,’ she replied. ‘I’m from Seattle, but I live in London now.”

“Well Rita, from Seattle, we’ve established that you’re an exotic beauty. Perhaps you’d like to return the favour.” He lifted her hand to his face and guided it gently over the slight stubble of his cheek. As her hand cupped his well-formed chin, he pulled her middle finger into his mouth and nibbled it, teasing the pad of it with his tongue. Suddenly her struggle to breathe had nothing to do with being claustrophobic.

“Well?” He asked pulling her hand away to massage her fingers. “What do you think? Am I acceptable?”

If he was cheeky, she was downright brazen. She stopped his words with her mouth, amazed at how easily she had found the mark in total darkness. Perhaps it was the darkness that made her so bold, but whatever it was, he didn’t disappoint. His mouth was warm, opening eagerly to the probing of her tongue, responding in kind, caressing her hard pallet, nipping at the fullness of her lower lip before pulling away just enough to speak.

“There, you see? It’s not so bad being in the dark, is it? The other senses are too often overlooked, which is very sad, since they offer such exquisite delights.” His hand moved up to cup her cheek, and he raked a thumb across her still parted lips. “Taste, for example. Few pleasures exceed that of the tongue.”

She heard him fumbling in the darkness, then she heard the rattling of foil. ‘Open your mouth,’ he whispered. “I have something that’ll make you feel better, guaranteed. Oh don’t worry, it’s nothing illegal.”

Reluctantly she opened her mouth, which he primed with a wet kiss, then slipped a chocolate truffle between her lips. It was covered liberally in cocoa and warmed exquisitely almost, but not quite to the steamy melting point of his body temperature, which only enhanced the sharp, edgy flavor that separates expensive chocolate from the cheap stuff.

She gasped her surprise, then moaned softly at the intensity of the taste.

“Don’t bite,” he kissed her jaw, then her throat. “Savour it, roll it around in your mouth. There are places on the tongue that taste only sweet and places that taste only bitter or salt, or sour. Chocolate can have all those flavors. Caress it in your mouth like you’re making love to it, and you’ll be amazed at what you taste.”

She cheeked the truffle, slurring her words as she spoke. “I thought I was tasting you.”

He chuckled softly. “Everything tastes better with chocolate.” Without another word, he took her mouth, plunging his tongue deep against the melting truffle, whirling it, lapping at it, sighing with the pleasure of it. The more liquid and heated the truffle became, the more liquid and heated Rita became.
