ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date August 5, 2017

A snow leopard shifter in the prime of his life, the last thing on August’s mind is tying himself to one female. He welcomes a different one to his bed each night, or at least he had until five months ago when he became alpha. The duties and pressures of running his pride have his libido dead on arrival—until a trip to London to discuss business with the former alpha lands him in the path of a beautiful, bewitching tigress who awakens a passion in him that flares white hot and a need of her that consumes his every moment.

Promised at birth to a male she has never met, Maya has left her pride behind to go to the tiger alpha who is to be her mate, but she can’t leave without saying goodbye to her older brother, Talon. A stop in London at Underworld to see him one last time turns out far different, and far more dangerous, than how she had imagined it when she sets eyes on an alluring crimson-haired stranger who stirs new, unbidden feelings in her, desires that rouse her fiercest and most frightening instincts and demand she stake a claim on him—her fated mate.

Will Maya be strong enough to place her pride and her family’s safety before the desires of her own heart? And will August unravel his feelings for the black-haired beauty before it’s too late and he loses her forever?

REVIEW: TAMED BY A TIGER is the thirteenth installment in Felicity Heaton’s contemporary, adult ETERNAL MATES paranormal/fantasy romance series. This is snow leopard shifter August, and tiger shifter Maya’s story line. TAMED BY A TIGER can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary. This particular arc of the series focuses on the tiger shifter pride members-Talon, Maya and Grey

Told from dual third person perspectives (Maya and August) TAMED BY A TIGER follows snow leopard shifter August as he must come to terms with his position as Alpha within the pride-a reluctant alpha who stepped in when the reigning alpha walked away to be with the woman he loved. What August never expected to find in London at the supernatural shifter bar Underworld, was the woman that called to the leopard within. Maya was a tiger shifter, and promised to another male. Snow leopard laws forbid August to choose a mate outside of his species but August knew that Maya was his female to claim. When Maya leaves to be mated to another male, August suspects not all is right, and sets into motion a plan to rescue his fated mate.

TAMED BY A TIGER, like many of Felicity’s previous installments, is more of a narrative; a story that reveals the inner most thoughts, emotions and struggles of two shifters whose lives will be changed in the blink of an eye. There is limited communication between any of the characters, including our leading couple; most of the story line is told through introspective thoughts and meanderings as Maya and August battle for control of their hearts and emotions. The lone $ex scene is intimate and intense. August’s snow leopard needs to claim Maya as his mate.

TAMED BY A TIGER is an action packed story of family and fated mates; of shifter values and traditions; of changes to formerly staunch rules and regulations. The premise is fast paced and entertaining; the romance is limited to internal thoughts as the couple spends a good portion of the story line apart.

Excerpt

August eased inside the nightclub in one fluid motion before the door closed, not touching it, and stilled in the darkness. The twenty-foot-wide corridor opened out a short distance ahead of him into a huge space. Flashing colourful lights stuttered across the black wooden bar that ran along the right black wall of the club, and the dance floor that filled the rest of the space to the left. It was still busy, close to one hundred people writhing against each other to a heavy rock beat. Halfway up the height of the building, a balcony ran around three sides of the dance floor, only absent above the bar. A few couples were making out up in the booths he could see, and more than one of the enclosed spaces had the curtain drawn across to give the occupants some privacy.
Cool air washed over him, and his nerves vanished, his head growing a little light as he breathed it in. What was in the air conditioning vents? Whatever it was, it was good.
He drifted towards the bar, suddenly feeling mellow and as if he didn’t have a care in the world. The pride? Not a problem. Trade negotiations? Whatever.
A low growl sounded ahead of him.
It rankled a little, and he instinctively flashed fangs, although he wasn’t sure where the threat was coming from.
There were a lot of different species in the club, and he smelled more than one shifter.
And also the shifter he had come to see.
“Sherry, check on the boss,” Cavanaugh’s deep voice rang through the room, cutting through the thumping music.
A pretty blonde of indiscernible breeding bounced along the bar towards him, bringing his gaze with her, and he frowned when she stopped and his eyes settled on the one who had threatened him.
A big, very pissed off looking, male with tousled short sandy hair and enough muscle packed beneath his white shirt to make it clear August wouldn’t win in a fight against him.
At least not in his human form anyway.
The male’s golden eyes glowed, his face in shadow as lights twirled above him, shifting colour.
“Kyter?” The one called Sherry touched his shoulder and he snarled at her. She snatched her hand back, looked over her shoulder, and hollered, “You deal with it. I dealt with him last time!”
Cavanaugh set a tall glass down in front of a male at the bar, heaved a sigh and turned towards him.
Froze.
His grey eyes widened, locked on August, a ripple of surprise crossing his face a second before he scrubbed a hand over his softly-spiked silver hair and stomped towards him.
“I have this,” he said, voice a gruff growl as he approached the female. She squeezed past him and went back to serving the customers. He reached the male at the end of the bar and slapped a hand down on his shoulder, and didn’t release him when he growled at him, baring short fangs. “This is my cousin, August.”
The blond male looked him up and down, curled a lip and pivoted on his heel, striding away from Cavanaugh.
Cavanaugh rolled his broad shoulders, stretching his white shirt even tighter across them, and offered an apologetic smile. “Kyter isn’t good with male shifters wandering in unannounced.”
It was a territory thing.
Now that he knew the male’s name, he knew why he had reacted so badly to his presence.
Kyter owned Underworld, had taken Cavanaugh in a few years back when he had left the pride after Stellan had defeated him. August eyed the blond. According to Cavanaugh, he was a jaguar. Highly territorial.
It explained the pheromones the club was pumping out in the air conditioning.
Cavanaugh grabbed a tall glass, stuck it under one of the pumps, and pulled him a pint. He set it down on the bar and nodded towards it.
“Sit, and tell me what the hell you’re doing here.” His cousin leaned on the bar near the drink.
August walked to it, slid onto the stool and set his duffle down beside him. “I should have called first.”
Cavanaugh’s lips curled at the corners, and his grey eyes twinkled. “You could have just called.”
It hit him hard that he could have. He could have used one of the pride’s satellite phones and called Cavanaugh to talk about how the hell to handle trade negotiations.
Instead, he had got on a plane and flown all the way to London.
“It’s fine,” Cavanaugh said, his smile gaining a sympathetic edge. “Even alphas need a break from time to time. Look at my father. He was always away on ‘business’.”
The feeling that had been building in his gut, a vicious sort of squirming that had set him on edge, eased on hearing that and seeing in Cavanaugh’s eyes that his cousin thought he had done nothing wrong by leaving the pride.
He hadn’t realised that it had been a need to get away, a need to have some space, that had put him on the plane and had him flying away from the pride, from his responsibilities, though. It hadn’t even crossed his mind until Cavanaugh had said it.
He had been so focused on a need to speak with Cavanaugh that he had been convinced the only way to do it was face to face.
August looked down at his beer. Fucking idiot.
Cavanaugh slapped his shoulder, and August was thankful he had chosen his left, and not his right. Damn thing was still healing after their fight against Stellan.
“Don’t beat yourself up. A break will do you good.”
He nodded, lifted his beer to his lips and took a swig. Damn, it was good. Not as good as the homebrew they had at the village, but it was still good. Different. It was freezing cold for a start, not warmed over a fire.
“I lasted all of a month before I took a break.” Cavanaugh grinned at him, and August couldn’t tease him about that.
Cavanaugh had been pushed into a position that had taken him away from Eloise, had separated them because of their status, and it had almost killed him.
It was good to see the old Cavanaugh back though, the one who smiled and laughed. It made everything August had done worth it, and everything he was going through.
“Sometimes I feel as if I’m drowning in all the requests, and appointments… and all the bigger picture shit too… like this trade negotiation in eight days.” August swigged his beer again, savouring the crisp coldness of it that turned to heat as it slid down into his stomach.
Cavanaugh rested both forearms on the black bar top and his eyes searched August’s, his face a mask of seriousness.
“When were you thinking of going back?”
August shrugged. “The day after tomorrow. That’s the next flight.”
His cousin pulled his phone from the pocket of his black trousers, swiped over the screen as it illuminated his face, making his eyes more silver than grey, and then shoved it away again.
“Make it the one after. It’s only four days… but it will be good for you.”
He found himself nodding, because four days sounded heavenly. He needed some space, some time to get his head straight and learn from Cavanaugh about how to run the pride. He would still be back in time for the meeting.
Cavanaugh was right.
Some time away would be good for him.
He hadn’t noticed that the club was emptying until a door off to his left, beyond the end of the bar, opened, throwing a flash of white light across the room. He glanced there, and couldn’t stop the smile that curved his lips when he saw the pretty brunette stood with her back to the door, her golden-brown eyes searching the length of the bar.
Eloise.
She spotted him and her smile lit up her face. She lifted her arm, pulling up the hem of her plain dark t-shirt with it, and waved.
Cavanaugh’s dark grey gaze swung her way and brightened, a corona of pure silver ringing his pupils as he saw his mate.
Eloise hurried towards them on August’s side of the bar, and rocked him by pulling him into a hug the moment she was within reach. “I thought I smelled company.”
Cavanaugh growled at his mate, or was it him? It didn’t stop August from hugging her back, squeezing her tight and earning another low snarl from his cousin.
Eloise released him, leaned over the bar beside him, caught hold of the front of Cavanaugh’s white shirt and pulled him towards her. She kissed him. It was one way of shutting his cousin up. Cavanaugh grabbed her under her arms and hauled her over the bar.
August snatched his beer a split-second before Eloise’s legs swept through that spot, saving it and holding it at shoulder height. Damn good job he did too, because Cavanaugh twisted her into his arms, so her feet arced across the bar right in front of August. He was on the verge of lodging a complaint when Cavanaugh kissed her.
Damn, it was good to see them.
It made him feel that everything was worth it, really worth it, and that he had made the right decision, because they were so happy together.
But it also triggered that strange cold feeling that had kept him awake at night for decades, that had bothered him since the day he had realised Eloise was Cavanaugh’s mate.
He would never have what they shared.
It was rare for his kind to find their fated ones, because they were always another snow leopard, and their numbers were low and their prides spread far and wide. Most snow leopards settled for falling for another of their kind and mating with them, but the bond they shared was nothing compared to the bond between fated mates.
A bond Cavanaugh and Eloise shared.
One that made him a little envious.
One he felt sure he would never find for himself.

REVIEW: TURNED BY A TIGER is the twelfth installment in Felicity Heaton’s contemporary, adult ETERNAL MATES paranormal/fantasy romance series. This is tiger shifter Talon, and human /bartender Sherry. TURNED BY A TIGER can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information, and several characters from the previous story lines are revealed where necessary.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Talon and Sherry) TURNED BY A TIGER focuses on Tiger’s need for revenge and retribution. Held prisoner and tortured for months the by a group known as ‘Archangel’ Talon’s freedom came at a cost. Leaving behind a number of other supernatural beings, Talon is desperate to return but a near fatal injury finds our hero at a bar –the Underworld-owned by a jaguar- and the jaguar Kyter sees Talon, another feline, as a threat to his mate and his life. Enter Sherry, one of the bartenders at the Underworld, and the human woman with whom Talon will fall in love. What ensues is the building relationship between Talon and Sherry as Talon recovers at Sherry’s home, and the preparations to return to Archangel to rescue the other prisoners and take down the people responsible for so much death and destruction.

The relationship between Talon and Sherry is one of immediate attraction. Talon knows that Sherry is his mate, and Sherry is unable to explain her need for the man who is barely alive. And of course, Kyter senses that there is more to the relationship between Talon and Sherry-he is well aware that Sherry is Talon’s mate. The limited $ex scenes are seductive and intense.

There is a large ensemble cast of secondary and supporting characters including many of the previous story line couples- Kyter and Iolanthe; Bleu; Thorne and Sable; as well as the acknowledgement of several others. We are introduced to Talon’s siblings- pride leader Byron, Talon’s twin brother Grey, and their sister Hope, as well as a witch named Agatha, and another demon named Valdaine. The author has plans for Grey and Hope’s story lines next.

The world building continues to focus on the takedown of Archangel and the revelations that all is not as it seems at the institution once thought to protect the supernatural powers. The corrupted Archangel is a threat to the supernatural existence. And of course, the over protective nature and alpha domination leads to a giggle or two especially where it concerns Thorne and his mate.

TURNED BY A TIGER is a story of retribution, romance, and fated mates. There are numerous fight scenes, plenty of action and danger, threats to their lives, and a secret once revealed with change Sherry’s life forever. The premise is entertaining and moving; the romance is intimate and passionate; the characters are energetic and colorful-an eclectic mix of familiar and new. TURNED BY A TIGER is a sexy and spirited look at a tiger shifter and the mate that calls to his heart.

Excerpt

“Shit.”
Talon’s knees hit the tarmac with a bone-crunching jolt and he sagged forwards, breath sawing from his lips as he fought to remain conscious and drive the pain back as it swarmed him, threatening to drag him into the waiting darkness. He couldn’t pass out here. They would find him.
He wearily lifted his head and growled low in his throat at the effort it took to do such a simple thing now. Not good.
He gazed down at his lap and then his trembling left hand as he pulled it away from his bare stomach. His hand wobbled and blurred, and he blinked hard, fighting to clear his vision and refusing to let the pain ricocheting through him, a bone-deep savage onslaught that wouldn’t abate, overcome him. The streetlight off to his right caught the thick layer of blood on his hand and turned it black and shiny.
“Fuck,” he growled through clenched teeth and tears stung his eyes.
He forced his right hand up and scrubbed it across his face, rubbing them away.
No damn way he was going to cry, no matter how dire things looked.
He wouldn’t give up.
He pressed his damp right hand into the gritty road and pushed himself onto his feet. Lightning flash through him, fire licking along the length of the wound across his stomach, and he gritted his teeth so hard they creaked, but he kept going, kept pushing, kept refusing to just lie down and die.
Death would be a mercy, one that probably wouldn’t find him before the bastards hunting him did.
Talon staggered onto his bare feet, stumbled a few steps and grunted as his right shoulder smashed into the wall that lined the narrow alley.
Awareness prickled down his spine and he looked over his left shoulder, his long beard scraping his skin and his shaggy black hair falling to obscure his eyes. He didn’t have the strength to push it out of his face.
Or the time.
They were coming.
Closing in now.
Dammit.
He had to keep moving. He was close.
The world wobbled around him, losing colour at times, as he stumbled forwards, clutching his stomach with his left hand and wincing with each laboured step. That damned lightning and fire zapped and danced through him with each shift of his body that disturbed the worst of his injuries, forcing him to breathe shallowly in an effort to keep it at bay.
Gods-fucking-dammit.
It wasn’t going to end here.
His right ankle gave out and the tarmac loomed in his vision again, but this time he managed to catch himself at the last moment.
Would’ve been a triumph if he hadn’t face-planted into a brick wall instead.
He rested against it, giving himself a moment, aware that if he kept pushing this hard he was going to pass out and that would land him back in their hands.
That prickling sensation came again, warning him they were narrowing the search, growing closer with every moment he stood still. He had to keep moving, even if it was only inches at a time. He leaned against the wall, using it for support and clawing his way along it with his right hand, his fingertips aching as he dragged his weight.
His muscles trembled beneath his skin, on the verge of going liquid as his strength drained away.
Another sensation joined the first.
One of dread that hounded him as he pulled himself forwards with dogged determination.
There were more than night shadows behind him.
There was death.
It was stalking him like the hunters, waiting for that moment when he gave in.
Never.
Talon ground his teeth and staggered forwards, calling on all of his strength and refusing to give up. He hadn’t given up when the hunters had caught him. He hadn’t given up all the times they had demanded he shift into his tiger form and then tortured him with cattle prods to force him to turn back. He hadn’t given up when they had left him naked and bleeding in that infernal cage or all the times they had dragged him back to his cell, letting their other captives witness him at his weakest.
He would never give up.
He kept inching forwards, the pain mounting inside him stealing his breath as it reached a new crescendo and fresh warmth spilled across his left hand, his life draining from him. Couldn’t give up. Wouldn’t.
Talon growled and pushed onwards, near-blind as fire blazed inside him, devouring his strength and setting every nerve in his body alight. Instinct drove and guided him, a deep desire to survive that lived within all feline shifter species, as strong and undeniable as the need to defend their territory.
Something he was deeply aware of as he finally reached the end of the alley and his destination.
He stared across the narrow road to the red-brick warehouse.
He shouldn’t be here, but he was desperate, had nowhere else to go and no hope of surviving if he couldn’t convince the shifter who owned the building to give him sanctuary.
The chance of that happening was slim, about as slender as him surviving the night.
But he had to risk it.
Underworld was his only hope now.
He checked the silent street in both directions, studying the shadows to make sure he wasn’t being watched, and then limped across it to the other side, slumped against the wall and clawed himself forwards, towards the broad door beneath the unlit neon sign.
The scent of shifter hit him hard, flowing from a torn up piece of wood beside the door, the owner’s calling card and a message to other male cat shifters in their prime.
A warning to stay away.
He couldn’t.
He reached the door and rested, breathing hard and fighting the nerves rising inside him to mingle with the pain. His limited senses stretched around him, ears pricking as he listened for a sign of life—both inside the building and outside it with him. There was no one in the streets around him, but inside were two heartbeats, not far on the other side of the door.
Talon pulled his hand away from his stomach and banged his fist on the door.
It swung open the moment he made contact and he lost balance, falling inside to land in a heap on the floor.
“We’re closed,” a deep gruff male voice called from the darkness. “I thought you’d locked up?”
Talon ignored the male and crawled forwards, dragging himself with both hands now, desperation driving him and urging him onwards, into the gloom. He growled. He was moving too slowly, the distance between him and the door not growing quickly enough. He needed to go faster.
Pain shot through him, his ears ringing with it and heart labouring in response, and he clutched his stomach with his left hand again, grunting as he fought it. When it eased, he pushed up on his right hand and shuffled forwards, holding his stomach with his other hand. The scent of his own blood filled his nostrils and his vision wobbled again.
Dammit.
He pressed harder with his left hand, trying to stem the bleeding. It wasn’t slowing.
Silence fell like a thick shroud.
Eyes landed on him, intent and focused.
The air shifted and a growl echoed through the enormous room, unholy and vicious.
A warning he felt all the way down to his bones.
To his soul.
His hope ended here.
The shifter was going to kill him.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date July 30, 3016

A ruthless vampire warrior, Grave Van der Garde rules the mercenary Preux Chevaliers with an iron fist, determined to retain his hard-won position as one of the most powerful men in Hell and his reputation as the heartless King of Death. But beneath the cold façade beats the heart of a vampire torn between love and hate, ripped in two directions by a single ethereally beautiful female—his fated phantom mate.

Driven by her phantom instincts, Isla used a spell to make her solid in order to deceive the vampire who killed her sister’s demon mate and have revenge on him, condemning him with a single kiss to become a phantom too. But her plan took an unexpected turn when she fell in love with him, and with her new life, and the night she betrayed him shattered both of their hearts. Now, he lives to make her suffer through their connection, one that is fading with them as they begin to slip into the phantom world, and she must face the monster she created if she is to save herself and the vampire she still loves.

With a demon from Grave’s past determined to destroy him and everything he holds dear, and the clock ticking down to their inevitable doom, can he and Isla overcome their past and their pride to work together to secure the future they both desire deep in their hearts? Or will death finally catch up with the vampire king and his phantom mate?

REVIEW: HAUNTED BY THE KING OF DEATH is the eleventh installment in Felicity Heaton’s ETERNAL MATES paranormal romance series. This is vampire warrior Grave Van der Garde, and phantom Isla’s story line. HAUNTED BY THE KING OF DEATH can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Several of the characters from Felicity’s Vampire Erotic Theatre series cross over with the premise of HAUNTED BY THE KING OF DEATH allowing for a new direction in the Eternal Mates series.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Grave and Isla) HAUNTED BY THE KING OF DEATH follows the rekindling of the relationship between Grave Van der Garde and his wayward mate Isla. Approximately one hundred years earlier our heroine seduced and cursed the ruthless vampire in retaliation for the murder of her beloved brother in law. For close to a century, Isla and Grave have led separate but connected lives, but a spell once cast to keep Isla in corporeal form begins to fail taking she and Grave, the vampire she has always loved, towards the fade. What ensues is the search for the mage who cast the original spell, and the struggle to keep one step ahead of a demon determined to destroy their lives. Grave is a mercenary who has killed too many men, and revenge and retaliation have landed on his front door threatening everyone he loves. Be forewarned, the violence quotient has increased in this particular story line-not everyone will survive; no one is safe from trauma and death.

Once again, like most of the previous story lines in the series, HAUNTED BY THE KING OF DEATH is mostly a narrative where the reader follows the story line through the leading characters’ thoughts and ideas. The interaction between Grave and Isla is limited in the first half of the book but picks up when our couple must embark on a journey to save one another’s life. The relationship between Grave and Isla is tempestuous at best but both begin to realize that they have loved one another since the day they met. The $ex scenes are intimate and intense. Grave needs to reclaim the mate he hasn’t touched in close to one hundred years.

There is a large ensemble cast of secondary and supporting characters; a number of the original couples from Felicity’s Vampire Erotic Theatre make an appearance including Snow and Aurora, Payne and Elissa. We are also introduced to Grave’s brothers-Bastien and Night. The remaining member of Isla’s extended family Frey is now in the position of King of the First Realm.

HAUNTED BY THE KING OF DEATH is a fast paced, action packed and entertaining story of betrayal, revenge and second chances. The premise is enchanting and imaginative; the characters are colorful, animated and dynamic; the romance is fated by slow to build. Felicity Heaton’s addicting ETERNAL MATES series is a passionate ride through the world of the paranormal.

excerpt

Darkness rolled over the land, visceral power that pressed down on him and chilled his blood.
Around him, the battle stilled, warriors frozen in position, locked in combat for a heartbeat before they all broke apart and turned as one towards the black mountains.

Grave looked there.

A male stood on a huge rock at the base of the mountain, just metres beyond the edge of the battle. He towered over them, black eyes surveying every warrior below him, gold elliptical pupils flashing as his gaze shifted quickly from one male to the next. His stance was casual, the black gauntlet covering the lower half of his right arm resting on the hilt of a huge black broadsword that stood beside him, the point buried into the solid rock, but Grave had the feeling this male hadn’t come to the edge of the Devil’s domain just to watch them fight.

The demon straightened and curled his clawed fingers over the pommel of his sword as his black eyebrows pinched low and his broad lips flattened.

Grave watched him closely, wary of the newcomer. He was young, appearing little more than in his early twenties to mortal eyes, but that meant nothing when it came to demons, especially those of the Devil’s ranks.

This male could easily decimate both sides of the warriors gathered before him.

It was rare for one of his kind to leave the Devil’s realm, although as far as Grave could tell, the male still stood within the threshold of his dark lord’s lands.

The sensation of death and power that he exuded seemed to grow stronger as he searched the faces of the warriors, and many of them began backing away from him, some of the Preux Chevaliers included.

Grave remained where he was, beyond the line of demons and vampires now forming between him and the newcomer.

The young male ran the claws of his left gauntlet around the curve of his polished black horn and then ran the pad of his thumb across the pointed tip. They looked as if they had been sharpened, made even more deadly.

The longer Grave watched him, the stronger a sensation within him grew, a feeling that he knew the male even though he also felt sure he had never met him before.

He was oddly familiar.

But then, most demons looked the same to him.

The male’s broad bare chest shifted in a deep sigh and he moved his left foot, his shoulders twisting as he went to turn away.

His eyes landed on Grave.

He stilled and narrowed his gaze, and his demeanour darkened, the sense of power that flowed from him becoming a crushing wave as he turned back to face him and lifted his left hand.

Pointed right at Grave.

“You,” the male snarled through sharp fangs and Grave had half a mind to point a finger at his chest and blink hard.

Instead, he remained perfectly still and held his calm façade even as a question pounded in his mind.

What had he done to deserve the bastard’s attention?

He scowled as the ranks of warriors between him and the demon parted, all three factions quick to clear the way, removing themselves from the firing line.

Grave bared his fangs at Asher, daring him to back away any further than he already had.

So a demon of the Devil’s ranks had come to them looking for a fight.

It wasn’t the first time he had fought a demon of his kind and it wouldn’t be the last. He had fought older, stronger demons from the Devil’s domain than this one and lived to tell the tale.

He would mount the bastard’s head on his wall.

Or his entire carcass on the towering metal spikes outside his palace.

The demon pulled his black broadsword free of the rock and dropped to the earth, the obsidian armour on his lower half rattling as he landed hard. He straightened and the warriors around Grave backed off another step. Asher wisely remained where he was, his sword at the ready and his crimson eyes locked on the demon.

Grave calmly walked forwards, into the gap between the two groups of warriors. The situation was turning strange, with warriors who had been fighting to the death just minutes ago now united in silence in the face of a potential new enemy.

An enemy that had singled him out for some damned reason.

“What do you want?” Grave barked and the male’s black eyes darkened.

“You,” he hissed and stalked towards him, crossing the threshold between the realms.

Grave arched an eyebrow. “Any reason why? I was in the middle of a battle so I would like to know why you chose to disturb it and by the looks of things ruin my chances of getting paid for the job we had undertaken.”

“A job,” the demon spat and flexed black clawed fingers around the hilt of his obsidian blade. “For a price you will do anything… kill anyone?”

He nodded.

Maybe the demon had come to buy the services of the Preux Chevaliers.

That thought died when the demon disappeared only to reappear right in front of him, launched a hand out and grabbed him around the throat. He choked as the demon lifted him from the ground by his neck and kicked out, striking hard with his boots, battering the male’s legs.

He sensed Asher rush forwards.

“Retreat,” Grave bit out when the demon turned his black eyes on his men, his elliptical pupils little more than gold slits burning in their centres, and he felt the male’s intent to attack.

Whatever he had done, he could find a way out of it, but he wasn’t going to put his men in the firing line for no reason. He was their captain, their commander, and he was damned if they were going to die because of him.

“Retreat.” He squeezed that word out again and relief poured through him when he heard Asher barking orders to his men and sensed them moving back, drifting into the distance.

The lands around them emptied, leaving him alone with the demon male.

“How very noble,” the demon said, his voice a low purr laced with darkness, fury so strong that Grave could almost feel it sliding over his skin, tugging at his bloodlust. The male’s eyes slid back to him and narrowed again as he studied him, tilting his head to his left. “Odd that you have such an approach with your subordinates when you do not extend that nobility to others.”

To others?

Grave frowned and grasped the male’s wrist and hand in an attempt to lessen the pressure on his throat.

The male snarled and tightened his grip in response, and Grave choked as his head felt as if it was going to burst and he swore he could feel his trachea collapsing.

He kicked out again and the male snarled, twisted towards the mountains and hurled him at them. Pain exploded across his back as he slammed into the rock on which the demon had stood and he breathed hard as he collapsed onto the black earth, wheezing as he fought for air.

“Where was your nobility when you murdered my family?” the demon growled and the ground shook with each word, causing small chunks of rock to break off the boulder at Grave’s back and rain down on him.

He closed his eyes and flinched as one struck his temple and he felt the sting, smelled the fresh blood as it bloomed to the surface of the cut.

He had murdered the demon’s family?

“I came only to deliver a message… this time.” The male’s voice was so loud that Grave tensed, his eyes shooting open.

Boots filled his vision.

A face filled it a moment later as the demon hauled him off the ground by his throat again and shoved him against the rock. A face filled with fury, twisted in pain and hatred, darkened by anger. Razor sharp fangs flashed between his teeth as he snarled and his black horns flared further forwards, so close to Grave’s face as the demon leaned towards him that he leaned back, pressing the back of his aching head into the rock.

“I came to deliver a warning.”

Grave swallowed as best he could. He wasn’t sure he should be thankful about the fact he was going to survive this encounter, not when the air around him had slowly turned ominous, a sense of doom steadily growing within him.

“I have spent my years well, Lord Van der Garde,” the male hissed in his face and smiled slowly. “My dark master gave me access to his seers… gave me knowledge and power. I know of Night and Bastian… your brothers… I know of your cousins, Snow and Antoine… I know of their family.”

Grave tried to shake his head. No. He wouldn’t let this bastard target his family because of something he had done.

He lunged forwards and cracked his forehead against the demon’s, and the male grunted and reeled backwards from the force of the blow, his grip loosening. Grave broke free and shoved his hands against the male’s chest, and then darted around him, gaining space and freedom.

He would kill the bastard right here and put an end to his threat.

He ran across the black earth, crimson eyes furiously scanning it for a weapon, any weapon.

The air behind him shifted and the ground slammed into his face, and he cried out as his right scapula shattered under the force of the demon’s blow.

The male leaned over him, bringing his mouth so close to Grave’s right ear that his left horn stabbed into the nape of his neck.

Grave stilled, heart pounding as he felt the press of the male’s horn against his spine. One wrong move and the male would kill him with it, he knew it.

He gritted his teeth and bit back the growl of frustration that wanted to burst from his lips. As soon as the male gave him space, he would find a way to break free again. He had to bide his time. He would find a way to break free and he would find a blade, and he would cut the bastard’s head off.

“Such anger,” the male whispered into his ear. “Imagine how I feel… imagine seven hundred years of waiting… yearning to kill you and your kin as you killed mine before my very eyes… taking my family from me… leaving me to die in that castle… nothing more than a helpless babe.”

A shiver ran down Grave’s spine.

He remembered that night, and he hadn’t been alone in leading the attack on the black castle at the edge of the Devil’s lands. Snow had been with him.

It wasn’t possible the demon had been at the castle though.

They had been thorough, had checked every room, every damned nook and cranny to ensure they had killed the entire family of demons. It had been part of the contract they had been carrying out for the Preux Chevaliers. The Seventh King of demons had wanted the noble family eradicated because they had been sending the more powerful Devil’s demons to raze their lands and kill their people.

It had been a message to the Devil, a warning to remove his cherished elite from the borders of their realms, and it had worked.

But this male had survived, and now he was sending a message to Grave, one he couldn’t dare to ignore.

“Next time our paths cross… I will be delivering the heads of your entire family… one by one.”

The demon stilled and Grave could feel his eyes on his back, close to his hand where it pressed into his broken right shoulder, keeping him pinned face down on the black ground.

Grave gasped as the male ripped the shirt from his back and squeezed his eyes shut as claws raked lightly over his skin, tracing a pattern between his shoulder blades.

“A mating mark,” the demon murmured and continued to follow the lines of it.

Grave swallowed against the bile rising up his throat, fought the flood of vile oily darkness that pulled at his bloodlust as the male stroked his claws across his flesh and his power flowed over him. Into him.

Power that Grave knew he wasn’t strong enough to overcome on the battlefield, not as he was now, weakened by the very mark the male had noticed.

“This is unexpected.” The demon moved his hand to the back of Grave’s head and shoved it down against the rough ground, and he grimaced as pain splintered across his skull. The male leaned closer again and smirked. “Unexpected but not unwelcomed. I will take my time with the female when I find her. Perhaps I will even keep her alive for a while… to serve me.”

Grave snarled and flashed his fangs, unable to keep still any longer. No one touched Isla. No one but him. He was going to be the one to end her, not some demon. Her life was his to take in payment for what she had done to him.

The male pressed harder on his head and he ground his teeth against the pain, stilled beneath the demon, fearing he would crush his skull if he kept fighting him even when he knew the demon wanted him alive.

Wanted him to suffer.

“I will send you to your death soon enough… but first you must witness the bloody end of your family… and you will die with the knowledge that your mate is forever in these hands.” He brought his claws close to Grave’s face and Grave flinched away, unable to stop himself from reacting.

The demon’s smile grew wider. Darker.

And then he was gone.

Grave remained face down on the earth, breathing hard as he battled the sudden flood of emotions, feelings he hadn’t experienced in a very long time.

Fear. Despair.

He rolled onto his back and stared at the dark grey sky of Hell, and the mark on his back warmed, began to tingle as a connection started to open.

He slammed it shut on her, unwilling to allow her to see him like this, shaken and afraid, fearing for his life and that of his family.

He had already lost too many of them.

He pulled down a hard breath, curled his fingers into fists until his claws bit into his palms, and then roared his fury at the sky, stopping only when his lungs burned and head turned. His fangs bit into his gums as he snarled, fury obliterating his fear, darkness destroying the despair.

He was the King of Death, second only to the Devil in this dark realm. A lowly prince of demons was no match for him.

Grave would hunt him down and kill him before he could lay a claw on any of his family.

If the male wanted war, then he would have one.

review

POSSESSED BY A DARK WARRIOR is the ninth installment in Felicity Heaton’s adult ETERNAL MATES paranormal/fantasy romance series. This is Commander Bleu of the Dark Elf legions , and dragon shifter Taryn’s story line. POSSESSED BY A DARK WARRIOR can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Commander Bleu’s story has been building throughout the series-quiet, powerful, in control, and a man who is determined to protect Prince Loren-no matter the cost.

Told from dual third person perspectives POSSESSED BY A DARK WARRIOR is mostly a narrative(as per Heaton’s style of story telling) told from our heroine and hero’s points of view; a story line that presents the events from the past that have lead Bleu and Taryn to present day. Hundreds of years earlier Taryn-a female, dragon shifter, had been accused of killing thousands of elves and stealing a deadly blade belonging to the Elven people. For centuries Commander Bleu has searched for the elusive she-dragon in the hopes of taking back the blade and destroying the dragon in the process. Fast forward to present day wherein Bleu discovers the whereabouts of the deadly dragon only to realize that Taryn is his fated mate and the truth is not what he has been lead to believe. What ensues is the push and pull of a relationship that finds Taryn siding with the man that she loves against the brother she no longer knows.

POSSESSED BY A DARK WARRIOR is a story with more graphic violence than in previous installments. The torture, terror and amped up cruelty is heightened in this particular story line – Taryn’s brother is a dragon possessed by the darkness and acts out against those he declares the enemy. The world building focuses on the recovery of the Elven blade, and the take down of a dragon that has destroyed so many lives.

The relationship between Bleu and Taryn is one fated by DNA but Bleu believes that Taryn is responsible for the death of thousands of elves. Taryn, on the other hand, knows that Bleu is her mate, but also the man who has sworn vengeance against her for sins of the past. The $ex scenes are intimate and intense-having a mate is something new for Bleu-and he is having a difficult time keeping his emotions and possessive needs under control.

POSSESSED BY A DARK WARRIOR has a large ensemble cast of secondary and supporting characters as the different realms set to go to war with the dragons. Many of the names and faces will be familiar to readers of Felicity’s ETERNAL MATES. Taryn was first introduced to the reader in BITTEN BY A HELLCAT (Eternal Mates #6) when Taryn and several others were rescued from a slaver.

There is quite a bit of duplicity and repetition throughout the story line that I thought could have been edited out-e.g. the continuous need to acknowledge eye color, clothing color, and color of the dragon-sometimes the constant reminders become filler in the story, and I found myself skipping or jumping onto the next sentence or paragraph.

POSSESSED BY A DARK WARRIOR is a revealing story line; an enchanting love story about two people whose lives are thrown together by chaos and destruction; a fateful relationship that is dramatic, intense, emotional and impassioned. The premise is captivating; the characters are animated and heartbreaking; the romance is powerful and passionate. Felicity Heaton’s ETERNAL MATES series will leave the reader sated but wanting more.

excerpt

The mountains seemed endless, stretching as far as his eyes could see across one hundred and eighty degrees of his field of vision. Bleu stood high on a cragged ledge, his back to a black mountain that many in Hell would find forbidding, because it marked the border of the dragon realm. He could see a few flying into the realm, their jewel colours bright against the dull grey sky. He hadn’t lived in the time when dragons had been free to fly in the mortal realm, but he could easily imagine how majestic they would have appeared against a dazzling blue backdrop spotted with pale clouds.

Dragons had been allies of the elves once, so many millennia ago that the only proof they had of their friendship were tattered pieces of the ancient records of the elven kings and queens, scratched onto thick leather now so brittle they would break if someone dared to remove them from the delicate glass case that contained them in the castle.

The castle.

Bleu turned his gaze towards it, instinctively aware of which direction his home lay in, feeling the familiar tug in his gut that told him to return to it. He had business there, and he had never been one to ignore his instincts. They were rarely wrong, and right now they were blaring a warning at him to step back from the dragon realm and seek a safer course of action.

He needed a team if he was going to venture into the realm of dragons and dare to question them about one of their own kind.

It was too dangerous to head in alone.

Dragons were fiercely protective of their own kind, even those they knew had committed a crime that had given their species a black name in the language of the elves.

He didn’t fancy ending up as roasted elf, so he would return to the castle and form his team—the same trio of warriors that had been with him the last time he had hunted the female dragon.

He focused on his body, calling his portal, and green-purple light shimmered over the scales of his black armour. Darkness swallowed him and when it receded, he was standing in the bright sun-filled verdant courtyard of the castle.

It towered above him, a beautiful mixture of pale and dark stone quarried from the mountains, shaped to form tall towers topped with conical tiled roofs set on a series of large square buildings with balconies that ran across their length. The main building stood five storeys tall, and the thick towers rose to spear the darkening sky and added another six levels.

A warm breeze chased over the high walls surrounding the castle and rustled the leaves of the trees in the orchard around him, carrying the scent of their blooms. Nature embraced him again, a tender touch that soothed him after being surrounded by the darkness of the demon and dragon realms.

He began to relax and then tensed again when Prince Loren appeared right in front of him, his handsome face dark and his violet eyes flashing as he shoved his fingers through his neat blue-black hair and began to pace. His formal knee-length jacket flapped around his legs with each agitated stride across the pale gravel path that spread outwards from the portal, intersecting the lush grass that grew beneath the trees.

Something was wrong.

Wrong enough that his prince had left a council meeting to come straight to him.

Before he could ask his prince what was bothering him, Loren turned on him.

The dark crescents beneath his prince’s eyes concerned him and he took a step forwards, growing determined to find out what was worrying him and find a way to relieve his prince of whatever burden his shoulders held.

“Where have you been?” Loren said, a slight sombre edge to his voice as he halted before Bleu, his bright violet eyes searching Bleu’s. “You have failed to return to the castle since Vail came.”

There was a tone in those last three words that conveyed a wealth of hurt but relief too. Loren always sounded that way when speaking of his younger brother, but Bleu held no love for the mad prince himself, not since he had gone to war with Loren and the elf kingdom, and had decimated an entire legion of the army.

The legion Bleu had served in under Vail.

He had been one of only a handful of survivors.

He wasn’t sure he would ever be able to think well of Vail, not even after everything they had learned about the reasons he had attacked his own kind. The things he had seen Vail do were branded on his mind, seared on his soul, together with the deep pain he had caused Loren. Bleu couldn’t forgive him.

“It has been a lunar cycle… so I will ask again… where have you been, Bleu?”

A month?

He could only stare at Loren as that sank in. He had thought it had been a week at most since he had left the castle, intent on returning to the last place he had seen the dragon female and seeing if he could uncover any clues that might lead him to her.

A month.

“Did your disappearance and subsequent avoidance of your home have anything to do with Vail… because he has left with Rosalind.” There was a softer note to his prince’s voice now, a soothing one that had no effect on Bleu as it dawned on him that his leaving had in part been because of Vail’s sudden appearance.

But not because he despised Loren’s brother.

He rolled his shoulder in a casual shrug, trying to let the epiphany roll off him just as easily, but failing dismally. His mood blackened again, just as it had that night a month ago when he had learned another fool had fallen under the spell of a bond.

A male no one in their right mind could love had found someone who loved him, and fuck had it stung.

“Good for him,” Bleu muttered and turned to walk away.

“Answer me, Bleu,” Loren barked and he halted, freezing to the spot and aware of the danger he was in.

Loren rarely raised his voice, especially to him. When he did, he meant business, and right now his prince was throwing off vibes that warned he was liable to break with convention and throw him in the cells if he was disobedient. It would be a first. Bleu had mouthed off to him, had behaved with little respect at times, and never had his prince punished him.

Bleu slowly turned back to face him.

“Did you stay away because of Vail?” Loren whispered, a heartfelt plea for an answer that told Bleu his prince didn’t want to punish him this time either, but people were watching them closely, and they would expect Loren to do just that if Bleu showed an ounce of disrespect.

He shook his head. “No… Vail isn’t the reason I have been away from the castle.”

It was the truth.

Well, mostly the truth. Vail wasn’t the whole reason he had left or the reason why he had been away.

He had just been the last straw.

Seeing Vail bonded to his fated female on a day that had been Loren’s wedding day to his own mate Olivia, and had brought the happily mated couples of Sable and Thorne, and Bleu’s sister Iolanthe and her mate Kyter to the elf kingdom had hit Bleu hard.

He hadn’t really thought about his actions at the time. He hadn’t really considered why he had left or what he had been feeling. He’d had a pressing need to investigate the dragon and he had left to do just that.

But an entire month had passed, and the look in Loren’s eyes told him that he had worried him, that the tone Bleu had heard in his voice and the sombre edge to his eyes had nothing to do with Vail, and everything to do with him, and that Loren wanted answers now.

Bleu had none to give to him, at least none that answered the questions in Loren’s eyes, because he didn’t want to look too closely at his reasons for leaving.

Instead, he would give his prince a safer explanation for his behaviour.

“I tracked the dragon,” he said and Loren’s expression gained a curious edge and he stepped closer to Bleu. Bleu sighed and raked his fingers over his longer hair, preening it back from his face as he tried to figure out where to begin. He knew how important the sword was to Loren, and he had sworn to retrieve it, and now he felt he was on the verge of fulfilling that promise. “I believe she has returned to her own realm for some reason. Perhaps the dragons there are hiding her, or she has gone to see someone, or she believes she will be able to conceal herself again among her own kind. I only returned to assemble a team so I might track the dragon into her own realm.”

Loren began pacing again, his head bent and the thumb of his left hand playing on his lip. His prince had never been able to keep still when thinking. It drove the council of elders mad when he silently paced back and forth in front of his throne, and that often amused Bleu no end. Anything that pissed off the council was fantastic in his opinion. They were antiquated idiots who stuck firmly to the rules and had given his prince nothing but pain and heartache for the forty-two centuries he had been at war with Vail, constantly badgering him to kill his brother.

Bleu had been all for killing Vail, but he never had been able to bring himself to do it whenever they fought. He had always faltered when dealing the killing blow, aware of the devastating pain it would cause Loren if he took Vail’s life.

Now the council were probably giving Loren hell as he attempted to convince them to allow Vail back into the elf kingdom now that he had proven he had been nothing but a pawn, a puppet controlled by a dark witch, and was maddened by the terrible things he had done.

Bleu couldn’t see them agreeing to that, and he couldn’t see his prince giving up this time either. Loren was a stubborn bastard at times, especially where those he loved were concerned.

“I have experienced fleeting sensations.” Loren glanced across at him but didn’t slow his pacing, taking long strides across the path, only needing three to reach the grass before he had to turn back around.

His prince needed a bigger space to work off some of his tension. Bleu would have offered to spar with him, but the urge to pull his team together and head into the dragon realm was growing stronger, and the thought of delaying his departure was near painful. He had to get back to the dragon realm.

He had to find her.

“They are familiar… and it took me some time, but I have realised what they are. It is the sword.” Loren huffed and his lips twisted into a grim, self-reproaching smile. “I admit that it has taken me some time to decipher the sensation… because my connection to it is not as strong as Vail’s… but it has surfaced again. Perhaps the dragon has retrieved it from wherever she hid it?”

Bleu didn’t like the sound of that. They still didn’t know why the dragon had stolen it or whether she had any ill intentions. She could easily decimate an entire demon army with it. But if that had been her agenda, why would she have waited so long to carry it out?

Why had she hidden the sword?

He wanted to believe that she viewed the sword as treasure and only treasure, but there was still a part of him that feared she meant to use it, that she had been waiting for some reason. Dragons could see the future if they were born of a strong bloodline. Had she seen something in her future and had stolen the sword because of it, and had been waiting all this time for that future to come to pass?

Loren’s hand clapped down on Bleu’s shoulder, jerking him away from thoughts of the dragon and what might lie ahead.

“Hunt the dragon. Eliminate her. Retrieve that sword for me, Bleu.”

Bleu had the feeling his prince was more aware of his innermost feelings, the ones he had tried to bury deep and ignore, than he would like and was giving him a mission to focus on in order to take his mind off things.

To give him a purpose again.

••••••••••••••••••

REVIEW: BITTEN BY A HELLCAT is the sixth installment in Felicity Heaton’s adult, contemporary Eternal Mates paranormal romance series. This is shifter hunter Owen Nightingale and hellcat Cait’s storyline. BITTEN BY A HELLCAT can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty.

Told from alternating third person points of view, the focus of the storyline finds Cait ‘hiring’ Owen Nightingale for a job taking down a man who has been stalking Cait for a very long time. Cait claims the male hellcat believes Cait is his mate but there is another reason Cait has been targeted by the dark and dangerous shifter. When Owen, a human with some power of his own, agrees to hunt for Cait’s stalker, he didn’t expect to fall in love with the feisty and beautiful woman.

Owen is a hunter by blood and heritage-a mercenary for hire-who is tasked with bringing in the supernatural species. Off the clock and recovering from a recent attack, Owen recognizes the fire in Cait’s eyes-a fire known only to belong to the elusive and infamous hellcat. He is not on the job but his need to protect Cait comes with some unknown and uncomfortable feelings.

The relationship finds our H/h immediately attracted to one another-a mutual attraction that quickly leads to a rushed sexual encounter between our leading couple. Cait’s inner hellcat knows that Owen is their mate but Owen is trying to keep some distance as he searches for the man on Cait’s tail. There is no prior history between Cait and Owen but they are first introduced book 4-Hunted by a Jaguar which runs parallel to some of the events in Bitten by a Hellcat. The $ex scenes are intimate, provocative and arousing.

The world building continues with the familiarity of the shifter night club known as Underworld but the only familiar face and name in the early pages is jaguar shifter Kyter (Hunted by a Jaguar)-the owner and club bartender. Felicity Heaton continues to tease the fans of her Eternal Mates series with brief glimpses at the immortal elf Commander Bleu and the possibility that his mate is a rare species-indeed.

The secondary and supporting characters include Marius-the hellcat hunting for Cait; Owen’s cousin; and the copious number of supernatural species who make a cameo appearance throughout the story. Bleu’s potential mate will be imprisoned but continues to sense when ever ‘he’ is near.

BITTEN BY A HELLCAT is very much a narrative that reflects on some of Owen’s family history but does not go into detail about Cait’s background or her time in Hell. The communication between our couple is limited as we follow along with the building relationship, romance and journey. And like the title implies, Owen will be bitten but his transformation will not be easy.

Felicity Heaton, once again, invites you into an addicting world of the supernatural; a world of shapeshifters, demons, witches and more. The erotic and sensual love scenes are powerful; the matings are intense. Another welcome addition to Felicity’s Eternal Mates paranormal series.

Bitten by a Hellcat – Excerpt
Cait could only blink as Owen made a swift exit, leaving her standing in the centre of the eggshell blue room. She looked around, wondering what he expected her to do while he changed, and why he had felt the sudden need to do such a thing. Sometimes, on rare occasions, she didn’t understand males.
She sighed, sat on the leather couch opposite the black marble fireplace and perused the magical items on the square wooden table again. There were many different types. Some looked as if they were meant for defence, while others appeared to be used to heal. Her gaze drifted to a not so magical healing item near the right corner of the table. A white bottle of pills. She carefully turned the pot around and read the label. Prescription medicine of some kind. She wasn’t familiar with the name of the contents. She placed her palms on her knees and sat in silence for a while, staring at the unlit fire, listening for a sign of Owen. She wasn’t sure how many minutes had passed since he had rushed from the room, but she felt certain he wasn’t going to return anytime soon.Cait slid her gaze towards the weapons and then to the door behind her. She was sure he wouldn’t mind if she looked around a little. It could be considered making herself comfortable. She rose to her feet and padded around the room, snooping at his books first. Most of them were tomes about different species, but others were diaries. She read several interesting entries dated from before she had been born over four centuries ago, and then set the book back on the wooden shelf. She trailed the fingers of her right hand across the spines of the others as she walked, heading towards the wall with the fireplace.
Several portraits hung on the wall, all of them old, and all of them resembling Owen in some way. His family. The men in the paintings had regal bearings, an air of importance about them. That contrasted against Owen. He didn’t seem to share their sense of conceited pride. He had pride, definitely, but not the sort these men in their portraits possessed, a sense of entitlement and that they were better than others, elevated by their cause.Cait wandered on, bored with staring at his ancestors when she wanted to see him, and snuck towards the door. She peered out of it and into the long hallway. The dark green paint and rich wooden floor seemed to suck the light out of the space, turning the mounted and stuffed heads on the walls even more sinister.
She hoped he didn’t intend to add a hellcat head to the array of Hell beasts he had on display. She couldn’t imagine what visitors made of the gigantic, scaly or horned beast heads.Cait glanced back into the living room and mulled over the way Owen had acted since they had arrived at his home.He probably didn’t have many visitors.
She was beginning to doubt he had any and that she was the first person other than Owen to set foot in this house in a very long time. She turned back towards the hallway and froze as her gaze fell on one of the huge mounted heads.

A shiver ran down her spine and she bared her small fangs at the beast that appeared as a blend between a lion and a reptile, hating the way the red eyes seemed to follow her. She had come close to losing her life to one of those wretched monsters more than once while in Hell. They hunted in packs, rabid beasts that didn’t stop once they caught the scent of fresh meat. The only way to get them off your tail was killing them.

Or craftily crossing paths with an unsuspecting demon and using him as a decoy that would then become the target of the pack’s hunt.

Cait had no regrets about using such tactics. Demons could teleport. She couldn’t. They were far more likely to survive a pack of Hell beasts than she was and if they didn’t, it was one less demon in the world. As a creature born of the Devil’s domain, it could be considered her civic duty to dispose of as many of the demons who had revolted against him and set up their own realms in Hell.

A bang echoed through the house.

She snarled and leaped back into the living room, breathing hard as adrenaline surged through her veins and her senses stretched out, seeking what had caused the sudden noise.

Nothing.

She huffed and smoothed her long black hair, trying to calm herself with the motion. It wasn’t like her to be so jittery but the fight with the male hellcat had set her on edge. She had spent most of the night on high alert, constantly aware of the male on a subconscious level, fearing he would attack her again. Even after she had left with Owen through the back door, she hadn’t been able to settle down. She had spent the entire journey wriggling in her seat and using the side mirrors to look behind her, convinced the male was following her somehow.

What if he had?

An ominous whining sound ran through the building, followed by banging and rattling.

Cait forced herself to stay where she was and ignore it. It was nothing. Probably just the house.

What if it was something?

What if it was him?

Her heart exploded into action and she rushed to the large oak table filled with weapons and armed herself with a crossbow. Her hands shook as she loaded it, drawing the string back into position and settling the dart into its cradle. She raised it and looked around the room, pointing the weapon wherever her gaze fell, breathing hard and fighting her ridiculous fear.

The banging came again, louder this time.

Cait raced from the room, tracking Owen’s scent through the building, following it down the green corridor and up another staircase. A softer noise came from ahead of her together with movement on her senses and she bolted in that direction, throwing a panicked glance over her shoulder at the same time, convinced someone was closing in on her in the dark hallway.

A strip of light shone from beneath a wooden door at the end of the corridor.

She shouldered that door open. “I heard something.”

She swung her gaze towards Owen and stopped dead.

The sudden jerk to a halt made her finger depress the trigger on the crossbow and the bolt zipped across the room, shot just above Owen’s left shoulder and thudded into the cream wall behind him where he stood right in front of her.

Naked.

Both of his hands moved in unison, racing to cover himself.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date January 27, 2015

Having turned his back on his snow leopard pride, Cavanaugh has been counting the days until he’s free of a role he never wanted—one that separated him from his fated female and stands between him and the future he craves with her.

Just days from the night he will finally be free to be with the low-ranking beauty who stole his heart, she walks back into his life and threatens to destroy everything he’s worked towards in the five long years they’ve been apart.

Eloise has traveled across continents searching for the male who was once her best friend and so much more to her, but was now her pride’s true alpha. Desperate to fulfil a promise to her kin to save them from the tyrant he left in charge, she convinces Cavanaugh to return to his pride, but as they journey to Bhutan, doubts bloom and old feelings resurface, tearing her between duty and her deepest desires and impossible dreams.

Will Eloise be able to resist the burning need that Cavanaugh reignites in her and remember her place in the pride? And can Cavanaugh find a way to save his kin and claim the future he craves with the woman he loves?

••••••••••••••

REVIEW: CRAVED BY AN ALPHA is the fifth installment in Felicity Heaton’s adult, contemporary Eternal Mates erotic, paranormal romance series. This is snow leopard shifters Cavanaugh and Eloise’s storyline-a second chance at love for destined mates. CRAVED BY AN ALPHA can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty.

Told from third person point of view, the storyline focuses on reluctant alpha and snow leopard Cavanaugh as he is tasked, by his cautious mate, with returning to his homeland to claim what is rightfully his-the leadership of his pride and a mate he has not seen for close to five years. Eloise has been searching for Cavanaugh for two years hoping to convince the man that she loves to return to their village and accept his position as alpha. Cavanaugh left the pride to protect the woman that he loves only to learn that the male who assumed leadership has left the pride decimated, destroyed and fearing for their lives.

CRAVED BY AN ALPHA follows Cavanaugh and Eloise on their trek back to their homeland. Their time is running out-Cavanaugh has eight days to reclaim his position as alpha or the mantle goes to the current male in charge. What ensues is a journey of flight and foot, through the jungles and over treacherous mountain terrain where our hero reflects on family, his life and the past ten years. Cavanaugh never claimed his mate leaving her to defend for herself against a tyrant and sadistic murderer.

The majority of the storyline is a reflection; a narration that reveals Cavanaugh’s emotional pain and history with his pride. As the reluctant heir and alpha, Cavanaugh tired of the constant battle for leadership and feared placing his unclaimed mate in danger. Leaving the pride was the worst move Cavanaugh could have made.

The relationship and former friendship between our leading couple has already been established but the years under a tyrannical rule have left Eloise fearful and submissive. The sex scenes are erotic and provocative but Cavanaugh had yet to claim his mate-the woman he has never stopped loving.

Felicity Heaton takes the reader on quest; a pilgrimage to the homeland where the scenery and beauty of the land adds to our couple’s wants and needs. There are moments of heartbreak and anguish; romance and love. Because most of the storyline is a reflection, the communication between our couple is limited. The previous history and current dilemma are revealed through contemplation, consideration and internal dialogue. Saying that, Eloise is reluctant to reveal the true nature of her journey and the frightening conditions back home.

Felicity Heaton writes addicting storylines of strong alpha males and the women they love. Her $ex scenes are erotic and seductive; the relationships are emotional and intense. The ETERNAL MATES series and CRAVED BY AN ALPHA are imaginative, enchanting and a rewarding read.

“I’m going for a swim.”

Eloise barely had time to register those words before Cavanaugh was stripping off his charcoal fleece, tugging the dark t-shirt he wore beneath off with it too. He dropped them on top of his pack and she stared at him, unable to drag her eyes away as they slowly glided down over the hard slabs of his pectorals to the ropes of his stomach.

An ache started low in her belly and only got worse as he tugged off his walking boots, pulled off his socks, and unbuttoned his dark grey trousers. He pushed them down, revealing long toned legs, and stepped out of them, his muscles shifting with the action, mesmerising her.

He truly was a majestic male.

For a moment, she feared he would crush her strength to resist him by stripping completely, but he turned away from her, his black trunks still in place. They hugged the twin globes of his backside as he walked and she stared at them, loving the way they dimpled and flexed with each stride he took towards the water.

When he looked back at her, she dropped her gaze to her pack.

She felt his eyes leave her and lifted hers back to him, drinking in the sight of him. He waded into the water and barked out a sharp noise that echoed around the lush green valley and the mountains beyond.

“Fuck, that’s freezing.” He didn’t turn around as she had expected. He shuddered and kept wading out into the river, his shoulders hunched up and fingers flexing at his sides.

She smiled.

And hid it when he looked back at her.

He grinned, his grey eyes bright with it, a light she hadn’t seen in them for a long time. Too long. This was the gorgeous male she had grown up with, always an air of mischief surrounding him, a sense that he was going to live his life to the fullest and take every adventure in his stride.

Seeing him like it again only made her feel worse about making him return to the pride with her and only made it hit home how much he had changed when he had become their alpha. She had never thought he would smile again as he was now, full of energy and happiness. She had never thought she would see the Cavanaugh who had been her best friend, her closest companion, and so much more than that.

For her at least.

She studied him, spotting all the changes that she had failed to notice, ones that were startlingly clear to her now and told her that things had been hard for Cavanaugh at the village after he had become their alpha. She could see now how much it had weighed on him and she cursed herself for being so wrapped up in her own hurt to notice his struggle. Her heart whispered that it wasn’t only his duties as alpha that had made life at the pride hard for him and she tried to ignore it, afraid to listen to it and believe that his struggle had in part been because they had been separated and couldn’t be together.

She refused to get caught up in that fantasy.

She refused to surrender to her pressing need to question him too, because she feared the answers he might give her.

He bravely dipped lower in the water, kicked off and began to swim in the deepest part of the river, entrancing her as he ducked his head under the cold water and surfaced again. He slicked his silver-white hair back and rivulets ran down his sculpted cheeks and rolled along the strong line of his jaw. He still made her heart beat hard and still drew her to him even though her memories of him were tainted by everything that had come afterwards.

The women.

The warmth that had been building inside her stuttered and died, leaving her ice cold.

Cavanaugh swam towards her, but his smile no longer affected her. The sight of him no longer made her want to rush into his arms and listen to his deep voice as he told her stories of the outside world. The pain of watching him from a distance for five long years crushed that need and the pain of being separated from him and everything she had endured destroyed her softer feelings.

“Join me, Eloise,” he hollered, his smile widening. “It’s not bad once you get used to it.”

“No.” That word came out far colder than she had intended and he frowned at her, his smile disappearing as he stopped swimming.

She looked away from him, unable to bear seeing the hurt as it crossed his face, tearing at her. She hadn’t meant to reject him so cruelly. It had been wrong of her, and not because he was her alpha and she had been disrespectful. It had been wrong of her to hurt him when deep inside she had wanted to take him up on his offer.

She wanted to swim with him, but she couldn’t shake the memories that were bombarding her, replays of the five years she had watched him from a distance as he had acted as their alpha.

She couldn’t shake the flashes of the women who had been all over him, seeking his attention.

Eloise pressed her hands to her chest as her heart hurt and tears threatened to fill her eyes. She sniffed them back, unwilling to let them fall. She had spilled enough tears in her life over everything that had happened. She was done with them now. She was stronger than the woman she had been, the one shaped by events she’d had no control over.

The one who had been torn apart every night when Cavanaugh had gone to his house, a trail of women following him.

It was the right of pride alphas to take their pick from among the females of status, satisfying as many partners as took their fancy. The females vied for the attention of their alpha because sharing his bed might elevate them into the role of his sole female.

Cavanaugh had never chosen one from the many. His father had been like that too, bedding numerous females, never settling on one.

His father had even slept with the females without status, the ones who could never be selected as his sole female.

Her gaze sought Cavanaugh and tracked him as he swam away from her, the distance between them eating at her. How many females had he bedded in the five years he had served as their alpha?

How many more would he sleep with after he returned to that role?

He would return to it. He had no choice. He would become their true alpha again when he set foot in the village, and she would go back to her quiet life, away from the pride. As much as it hurt her, it was how things had to be. She wasn’t bringing him back for her sake. She was doing it for the pride.

Eloise watched him, a deep need growing inside her again, one that she struggled to deny.

Asking Cavanaugh for the truth about how many women he had slept with and whether he had ever cared about her would only end with her being hurt again. She wasn’t strong enough, wasn’t brave enough to lay her heart on the line like that. Her stomach rebelled at the vision of him looking her right in the eye and telling her that he had bedded the females and that she had meant nothing to him, that what had happened between them had been nothing more than satisfying a biological need for him.

She wasn’t strong enough right now to hear that. Seeing him again, speaking to him for the first time in almost a decade, and being close to him had her muddled and off balance, liable to fall apart and make a fool of herself.

Cavanaugh began swimming back towards her and the resolve she had mustered crumbled again. She trembled on the brink of casting aside all the rules and swimming with him. Part of her demanded she seized this moment with him, before he was taken from her again, but the rest warned that it would only make things worse. Giving herself to him again now would make seeing him with other females unbearable. The knowledge that he could again take something precious and special and treat it as if it was nothing would destroy her.

His gaze swung her way and his expression suddenly went cold.

“Eloise!” He shoved out of the water, spraying it everywhere and startling her.

He rushed across the wet rocks, his footing sure as he sprinted towards her, leaping with agile grace from one boulder to the next, his muscles working hard as he closed the distance between them.

Her eyes widened and she turned slowly, her heart thundering against her breast and cold prickles crawling over the nape of her neck.

She wasn’t alone.

Her eyes met the huge tiger’s ones as it stalked towards her from the edge of the forest, already close enough to pounce.

••••••••••••••••••••

REVIEW: HUNTED BY A JAGUAR is the fourth release in Felicity Heaton’s Eternal Mates fantasy/paranormal romance series. This is jaguar shifter/Underworld Nightclub owner Kyter and elf/artifact hunter Iolanthe’s storyline. The storyline takes the reader on a journey from London to Italy; to the ancient cities of Pompeii and Herculaneum; from Hell to Prince Loren’s castle in the elven kingdom.

Shunned and abused by his pride as a child, Kyter has never had any need to return to the jungle except for the love of his mother. But her recent death brings feelings of murderous rage and revenge for a son whose unwelcome birth brought nothing but pain and sorrow for the mother he barely knew. In order to avenge her murder, Kyter will seek out the man responsible knowing that one or both will not survive. A mission to find the key to his location sets Kyter on a direct path with the woman who would one day be his mate.

Iolanthe is a three thousand year old elf; a strong willed woman who has no need for any man in her life; and a woman on a mission to recover an artifact for a client who does not accept failure. Iolanthe’s life will be terminated if she is unable to produce the item in question but finding Kyter, a creature whose DNA screams something different, in search of the same artifact will alter Iolanthe’s determination to uncovering the location. What ensues is a battle of wills; a test of knowledge; and a need greater than either could have imagined.

The relationship between Iolanthe and Kyter is fraught with rejection, anger, mistrust and betrayal. Kyter knows that Iolanthe is his mate but his mate wants nothing to do with a controlling male; she is remiss to accept his claim as her fated mate and refuses all of his attempts to acknowledge their mating. The sex scenes are intimate, romantic, compelling and provocative.

HUNTED BY A JAGUAR can be read as a stand alone storyline. Any important information from earlier installments is imparted where necessary with the mention of several players and the inclusion of a single character from previous storylines that allows for cohesion and familiarity. The introduction of Cavanaugh, Owen and Cait sets up the next two installments and storyline premises in Felicity Heaton’s ETERNAL MATES series.

HUNTED BY A JAGUAR is a sensual and imaginative storyline. There are moments of heartbreak and betrayal; passion and romance; graphic violence and thrilling battles. The locations are exotic and historical; the drama is captivating and intense. Felicity Heaton’s ETERNAL MATES series is a roller coaster ride of emotions that will seduce your mind and grab your attention from the start.

excerpt

Kyter strode across the strip of worn tarmac and swung his leg over the motorbike parked near the red brick wall.

It sank lower as it cushioned his weight and he patted the sleek black fuel tank of the classic motorcycle he had owned for almost two decades now. She was a thing of beauty and he doubted he could love anything as much as he loved her, or anything could come close to matching her looks. She was all spit and fire, chrome and black. A wild lady with a fierce growl.

He turned the key and she roared to life.

Kyter slung the backpack on, kicked the stand up, and switched the lights on. He revved the engine and pulled away, heading along the slick alley towards the main street, the bike’s growl reverberating around the brick buildings on either side of him.

When he hit the main street, he banked left and accelerated, speeding through the quiet night towards his destination.

A fae town.

It was the closest one to his club and he had been there countless times. How many of those times had he crossed paths with the male he was going to look for tonight? He didn’t want to think about that or the fact he could have found out his father’s location years ago and his mother would have still been alive.

The journey passed swiftly, a mixture of motorways and narrow country roads. Dawn was coming as he rolled down the gravel driveway of a palatial sandstone mansion and parked his bike beside a huge black Bentley. He turned off the engine and eased his leg over the bike, coming to face the mansion. Light fae lived in the grand estate. He wasn’t here to see them.

He walked to the right of the mansion, into the woods there, and found the entrance to the town set into a large mound of rock. He pushed the heavy iron gate open and stepped into the darkness, following the slick steps in a sweeping curve downwards into the gloom.

A golden glow lit the end of the tunnel as it levelled out and the scents of the town rolled over him. Herbs. Spices. Blood. Sex. This fae town dealt in everything. He followed the tunnel until it opened out onto a high ledge at the edge of the enormous cavern. Below him, stone buildings covered the huge base of the cavern, groups of different styles marking the different districts.

To his left, the tightly packed hotchpotch collection of white square flat-roofed structures of different heights left little room for the thousands of fae who passed along the narrow streets between them.

The witches’ district.

It was always bustling with activity, no matter the time of day or night. Most of the fae, demons and other species who visited the town headed there, looking for a potion or a spell.

Amidst the single-storey dwellings were some with two or more levels and bright colourful signs painted on their walls. Others had tattered jewel-coloured canopies reaching out from them, almost touching the canopy of the building opposite as their owners fought for space in the cramped town.

The scents wafting up to him grew stronger, rising from the copper stills, thatched baskets, and terracotta or stone jars that were on display outside the stores in the witches’ district.

Kyter turned away from the town and walked down the carved stone steps to his left that followed the curve of the cavern wall and led down into the town, ending near the witches’ district. Before he reached the bottom, he stopped and scanned the buildings again, seeking the demons’ district.

Banners hung on the walls of the largest buildings that lined the edges of the town, built into the rock. Some were covens, but most belonged to other fae species. He knew the mark of a local pride of tiger shifters and always avoided the area at the far end of the town because of it. He still remembered the day when a wolf pack had set up home right next to the tigers. It hadn’t gone down well. They had ended up dragging the ogres into the fight and several blocks of the town had been flattened.

If it hadn’t been for the quick thinking of the local succubus clan who resided in the glaringly red four-storey building at that end of the town, the damage would have been far worse. They had employed their charms though, easily winning over the shifters and the ogres. Make love, not war. A motto he had lived by once.

Now he was out to make war.

He spotted the demons’ district off to his right on his side of the cavern. The single storey buildings differed in appearance from those of the witches and the rest of the town. Smoke curled from the crooked chimneys on the uneven dark tiled roofs of the black beam and white panelled buildings that had an almost medieval look to them, lazily drifting up into the air before disappearing. Everyone in the town worked as a merchant, selling something.

Kyter hoped that demons sold information.

Or methods of summoning their kin.

He took the last few steps down to the cobbled floor of the town and banked right, making his way through the busy streets towards the demons’ district, hugging the wall of the cavern below the entrance where the road was wider to avoid the worst of the crowds.

A flash of silver caught his attention and disappeared just as his eyes darted to it. He frowned and stood taller as he walked, trying to spot what had caused the brief flare.

A woman.

He stumbled into a small old witch and she jabbed him in the leg with her staff. He muttered something he thought might have been an apology and stared after the female he had spotted.

She was stunning.

He had never seen a female like her.

She moved through the crowd like black smoke, disturbing none of the fae milling around as she slipped between them, nimble and graceful.

On the hunt for something.

He recognised hunting behaviour when he saw it.

She sidestepped, turned so she curved around a woman who had looked back at her friend, not paying attention to where she was going, and slipped back into the crowd, reappearing further ahead of him.

Heading towards the demons’ district.

Kyter followed her, bumping into several more people as he pursued her, unable to ignore the compulsion to catch another glimpse of her face. The need was visceral and something he had no command over. He couldn’t stop himself from tracking her into the darker part of town and trying to catch her scent. Everything on sale and all the fae and demons packed into the town overpowered his senses, making it impossible for him to pinpoint her scent.

She turned, her long black hair swaying with the sudden action, and ducked down an alley on the left of the thoroughfare, her back pressed to the dark brick building. Her gaze tracked someone in the crowd. Who?

He found himself tiptoeing in an attempt to see.

What the hell was he doing?

He cursed when he looked back at her and found she was gone.

His gaze scanned the crowd and he barged through them, shoving them aside as he hurried towards where she had been. Several of the people shoved back, almost knocking him off his feet, and at least one growled at him.

He almost walked straight into a vampire male, saving himself at the last minute by ducking to one side, down the same alley she had used as a hiding spot.

Kyter dragged the air over his teeth and huffed when he still couldn’t pick up her scent.

He looked at the crowd and then at the alley behind him. If she was hunting, maybe she had gone that way, where the flow of traffic was weaker, only a few people coming and going. He chanced it and followed the alleyways that wove through the brick buildings between the witches’ and demons’ districts, and grinned when he spotted her ahead of him down a narrow path between a set of white panelled buildings of the demons’ district.

The smile fell off his face when he finally got a good look at her.

Stunning hadn’t been a good enough word to describe her.

She stood at least six-feet tall, her dangerous curves clad in black combat trousers, boots made for kicking arse, and a tight black camisole. Black leather cuffs encased her forearms, elaborate silver swirls of metal covering them. Silver. The flash of that colour that had caught his eye. They were beautiful, but would offer her little protection from a blade.

She lingered near the end of the alley, watching the people passing, her back to him so he couldn’t see her face.

What he could see gave him pause.

Strapped to her back was a vicious long black and silver blade.

A merc?

Or was the sword meant purely as a visible warning to the men of the town?

She turned her face to her right and Kyter’s heart kicked in his chest.

Beautiful wasn’t a good enough word either.

She was otherworldly.

Long black lashes framed luminous green eyes and below the fine slope of her nose, rosy lips curved with just enough pout to set a man’s heart racing.

A goddess.

He took it back. There was something in this world far more beautiful than his beloved motorbike.

He took a step towards her and she melted into the crowd.

Kyter bit out a curse.

He had to stop letting her give him the slip. He strode to the end of the alley and halted there, scouring the throng for her. How the hell did she keep evading him? With his senses and her height, it should have been easy to keep track of her. Hell, he should have been able to just follow the wake of slavering men she no doubt left behind her.

He eyed all of the men in the crowd, on the verge of growling at them to warn them to keep their eyes off the female.

Kyter froze. What the hell was he doing?

He hadn’t come here to chase a woman as if she was a bitch in heat. He had to find the demon and discover whether he finally had a lead he could follow to find his father. Just thinking about the bastard had his heart turning cold in his chest and his rage welling back to the surface, fuelled by the grief that he felt sure would never leave him, not even when he’d had his vengeance.

He shoved into the crowd and scanned the buildings on either side of the wider street, reading the signs that hung above their painted doors. The demons’ district. He had taught himself to read the fae and common demon tongues a long time ago, unwilling to be caught off guard in any way during his visits to the fae towns. Jaguars didn’t like having wool pulled over their eyes and the towns often drew unsavoury characters who preyed on anyone who looked out of place.

He studied the wooden signpost in the middle of the street. He was close.

Another flash of silver caught his attention again and his eyes darted to it, quicker this time so she couldn’t evade him. She knocked on a door and it opened, allowing her to duck inside. The green door closed behind her.

Kyter pushed through the crowd to the small building and growled as he saw the painted sign hanging from a black iron pole jutting out of the white wall.

His mark.

What did she want with the demon he had come to find?

He pressed his back to the white wall close to the door, shut his eyes and focused hard, using his training to filter out all the sounds that covered the ones belonging to his prey. It was hard when people jostled him as they passed, shattering his focus. He clenched his jaw and drew in a deep breath, shifting the whole of his focus back to the building behind him. He sifted through the ruckus in the street until he found the soft melody of a female voice.

He only caught the end of what she said.

“Must find the key to Barafnir. My client desires it.”

Kyter’s claws shot out and dug into the plaster at his back.

He snarled as anger poured like acid through his veins, burning him up inside.

Barafnir.

His father.

She was after the same object as he was, but he wouldn’t let her have it. He needed it more than she did.

It was only a prize to her.

It was everything to him.

•••••••••••••••

REVIEW: TEMPTED BY A ROGUE PRINCE is the third instalment in Felicity Heaton’s Eternal Mates paranormal romance series. This is demonic elf prince Vail and light witch Rosalind’s storyline.

Vail had been held captive and controlled by a dark witch for over four thousand years and the atrocities he has committed have left a black mark so dark upon his soul that he prayed for death. Imprisoned by the new king of the Fifth Realm, Vail fights against the torture and pain only to be healed by a woman he feels the need to both soothe and destroy. With each encounter Rosalind and Vail’s connection to one another grows stronger but it is Vail’s emotional turmoil about the past that both frightens and attracts Rosalind like a moth to a flame.

TEMPTED BY A ROGUE PRINCE follows the imprisonment, torture and eventual escape of three people whose lives have crossed paths once before. Rosalind is Vail’s fated mate but she is also a reminder of the woman who destroyed Vail’s humanity and his ability to distinguish between right and wrong. It is a story that is graphically violent and emotionally heartbreaking. Vail has been betrayed time and again, and the memories of the people whose lives he has destroyed will be carried with him for all times.

A good portion of the storyline is told through the internal dialogue of each of our leading characters. Vail is torn between wanting to kill Rosalind and protecting her from harm while Rosalind hopes to heal the mind of a man whose belief in himself has been damaged beyond repair. The nature of these thoughts was slightly repetitive reminding the reader about the hell that our characters had endured.

Felicity Heaton’s storylines are imaginative, passionate, heartbreaking and intense. TEMPTED BY A ROGUE PRINCE is a little darker with its graphic imagery of one man’s suffering and slide into hell. Vail and Rosalind’s escape will force them to depend on one another for survival but also force them to take a deeper look within their heart and soul.

Excerpt

Rosalind kept some distance between them as she rounded the slab, her gaze fixed on him the whole time, monitoring him for a sign he might attack her. He began writhing again, fitful jerking movements that rattled the chains that held him pinned to the slab with his arms above his head, stretched out like a piece of meat on a butcher’s block.

Bastard demons.

The male snarled low in his throat, as if he knew her thoughts and seconded them. He looked so savage coated in dried blood and dirt, and felt more dangerous than ever. She flicked a glance at the bent steel bar and the grooves in the solid stone. More dangerous than she had thought possible.

Rosalind kneeled beside him on the stone flags.

He snarled again, his eyes rolling back in his head as he sniffed, inhaling deeply. He rocked his hips and her cheeks heated. He was growing hard in his wrecked black trousers. She averted her eyes, pretending she hadn’t noticed, and diligently kept her eyes away from that area of his anatomy, not wanting to ponder why he had reacted in such a way to her scent.

She reached out to touch his bloodstained hands. He growled and grew more restless, twisting on the stone slab and pulling at his restraints.

“Shh,” she whispered, unsure whether he could hear her and whether speaking to him was wise when he was in this condition.

Would her presence and the sound of her voice make him better, or worse?

He hated witches. He had looked at her with murder in his eyes.

She couldn’t leave him though or let him continue to suffer, and it wasn’t because she was a captive in this cell with him or the orders the demon had given her. The sight of him suffering, lost in whatever strange place had hold of him, caused an ache in her chest that compelled her to help him.

“I won’t hurt you. I swear it.” She reached out to touch his hands and he hissed at her, flashing fangs. She barely dodged his attack, falling backwards as he launched his head forwards, his teeth clacking as they struck each other and not her flesh.

He grew wild, bucking off the slab and yanking on the manacles that bound his wrists. She wanted to reach for him but instinct held her back, warned her to let him wear himself out. He had tried to bite her. Mother earth. She covered her mouth with her hand and stared at him, her heart developing a new ache. What dark power gripped him that he would attack her when she was only trying to help him?

He began to settle again, his movements becoming less frantic, weaker as his strength faded.

“I will not hurt you. I know you can hear me. I am only going to heal you.” Rosalind moved back to her knees beside him and swallowed hard.

He slumped onto the bench, the tangled threads of his black hair sticking to the sweat on his brow.

He looked fragile, but she wasn’t going to let that deceive her. This man was deranged.

What sort of male could have not only moved with her healing spell ricocheting through his body and all the injuries that had remained, but managed to find the strength to bend thick steel bars and rake deep grooves into solid stone with only his nails?

Not a sane one.

Many of the dungeon’s residents had been here long enough to have gone mad and were normally noisy at night, but last night they had been silent while this man had raged.

They had feared he would escape. The guards had feared too, exchanging meaningful glances as they punished her.

She had feared too.

This male had come here insane.

What was he?

She had thought vampire before, but now she wasn’t so sure.

Rosalind reached slowly towards him. His lips were bloodstained too, a dark spot of it gathered by the corner of his hard mouth. Had he tried to bite the bars, or had the guards struck him to subdue him?

His eyes flicked open and locked on her.

She tensed, her heart pounding, fear pressing her to withdraw her hand before he attacked her. She kept it hovering in the air between them, refusing to let him bully her into shrinking away from him.

“Hello again,” she whispered, keeping still and giving him time to adjust to her presence. He continued to stare at her, deep into her eyes, his blue-grey ones flat and dull. Lifeless. “They brought me to heal you. It seems you, um, hurt yourself.”

He exhaled softly and blinked. A good sign? Mother earth, she hoped so.

She hadn’t expected him to remain calm on hearing her voice. She had expected another replay of him attempting to break free of his bonds, most likely so he could kill her.

“I need to touch you to heal you.”

No response.

During her time alone in her cell after her punishment, she had mulled over their entire first encounter, and had concluded that he hated anyone touching him. She had been entertaining theories about it all day. It wasn’t because she was a witch. He hadn’t known that at the time.

“Can I touch you?” She wasn’t willing to risk her limbs by attempting to do such a thing without his consent.

He clenched his fists and gave a curt nod.

Rosalind took it as a green light, noting that he had steeled himself, mentally preparing for her touch.

She shuffled closer, biting down on her tongue when her ribs protested and each mark on her back burned beneath her black dress.

“Harmed you?” he croaked, his voice gravelly and deep. His eyes searched hers. “Heard you… cry. You hurt?”

The stilted manner of his speech spoke to her of the incredible pain he endured, agony that she could see in his eyes, yet he was asking about her instead.

She swallowed the lump in her throat, stifling the memories of her punishment, and forced a shrug. “No worse than usual.”

“Usual?” Black eyebrows dipped low, narrowing eyes rapidly gaining a dark edge and obsidian blotches amidst the stormy blue-grey of his irises. What was he? “Beat… often?”

He grated the words out from between clenched teeth and she saw his fangs were down. Maybe he was a vampire, or another form of fae. There were many in the world and a lot of them could take on a human appearance.

“It no longer bothers me.” She plastered on a false smile, one she hoped would stop him from asking about it. “But… they do it often.”

He growled so low that she only felt it as a rumble through her chest and then strained against his manacles, becoming so agitated that she feared he would hurt himself again. His face screwed up, his enormous fangs on display, and he threw his head back and roared as he arched off the dark stone slab.

“You need to calm down.” Rosalind reached for him.

She froze when his eyes snapped open.

Purple.

Her breathing accelerated.

She shook her head.

He couldn’t be.

He stared at her, vivid purple eyes flashing wildly as his lips peeled away from his fangs again. Fangs. Purple. Mother earth, she was going to hyperventilate.

His overlong black hair parted to reveal the pointed tips of his ears and she almost passed out.

Elf.

Rosalind shot backwards away from him. Pain erupted in her side, searing her ribs and stealing her breath together with him. Not a damn elf. He couldn’t be a bloody elf.

She shook her head and huddled into the corner, holding her knees and staring at him as he wrestled with his manacles.

Anything but an elf. Why couldn’t he be anything but an elf?

She went back seventy years, to a magical summer’s day when she had been having tea in the garden with her grandmother. It had all been so peaceful and perfect. Endless blue skies. Flowers in full bloom. Butterflies and bees going about their business. A perfect moment.

Until her grandmother had turned sombre, staring at her in silence and worrying her. Rosalind had asked her what was wrong and her grandmother had looked right into her eyes with ones that swirled like a silver storm and had spoken words that had changed her forever.

In Rosalind’s future would be an elven prince, and after meeting him, she would die.

Interview

Felicity HeatonTRC: Hi Felicity and welcome back to The Reading Café. Congratulations on a successful 2014. We have a few questions that will hopefully catch us up with what’s happening in your world of writing.

TRC: TEMPTED BY A ROGUE PRINCE is the latest and third release in your Eternal Mates paranormal romance series. Would you please tell us something about the premise?

Tempted by a Rogue PrinceFelicity: Tempted by a Rogue Prince is the third book in my Eternal Mates series and follows on from the second book in the series, Claimed by a Demon King. We are still in Hell, but this time we are following Vail, an elf prince who is wandering through the demon realms, maddened by the things that have happened to him and searching for an escape from it. Vail ends up captured by the warriors of the Fifth Realm, and dragged unconscious into the cells where he meets his destiny in the form of a beautiful female born of the same species as the woman who held him spellbound and tormented him for over four thousand years.

Rosalind took part in the war between the Third Realm and the Fifth Realm, fighting on the side of the third. During the war, she was captured by the Fifth Realm, and has been held in the cells of the castle ever since, forced to heal anyone that the demon king commands her to heal, including a handsome unconscious male in one of the cells. When Rosalind realises that he’s not only an elf but an elf prince, and that the prediction she was given by her grandmother might be about to come true, a prediction she’s tried to avoid triggering, she isn’t sure what to do but one thing is for certain—she needs his help to escape the demons.

TRC: How many books do you have planned for the series?

Eternal Mates series

Felicity: At the moment, I have plans to write another seven novels for the series and some novellas. The deeper I delve into this world, the more characters come to me with stories I really want to tell. I want to keep exploring this world non-stop, but unfortunately other series demand my attention and I have to keep stepping away from it to play in those worlds instead.

TRC: What or who was the inspiration behind the Eternal Mates series? Was there a moment that you knew you had an entire new series ready for pen and paper?

Vampire Erotic Theatre

Felicity: The inspiration behind the series was really my other series, Vampire Erotic Theatre, and not only my readers’ fantastic responses to that series but the world I was playing in there. It’s actually the same world as the Eternal Mates series. I had built up a place filled with vampires, werewolves, and other paranormal creatures I hadn’t played with before, like fae. The Vampire Erotic Theatre series was slated to end at book 6, once every hero at the theatre had had his story told, but I didn’t want to step away from that world. I wasn’t ready yet. I wanted to delve deeper into it and I also wanted to bring dark elves into the world of paranormal romance. There was a distinct absence of elves in the PNR world when I was working on the series and when I released the first book. Desire to continue exploring the Vampire Erotic Theatre world and to write elves as paranormal romance heroes… that’s how the Eternal Mates series was born.

TRC: When last we spoke (October 2013) you had just released HER WICKED ANGEL and had revealed that NEVAR’s storyline is next. Would you please tell us something about the premise of HER AVENGING ANGEL (Her Angel #7) set to release in October 2014?

Felicity: It’s really hard to actually say much about Her Avenging Angel without giving away events that happen in Her Wicked Angel. I hate spoilers, so I don’t want to ruin that book for any who haven’t read it. All I can really say is Nevar is still a very bad, very dark and somewhat broken angel, as we’ve seen him in the Interludes series of short flash fiction pieces I’ve been writing for him (they’re available on my website) charting his life between the end of Her Demonic Angel and the start of Her Wicked Angel in the Her Angel series. In Her Avenging Angel, he’s struggling to overcome that darkness and the evil within him, and on top of that he might just be the one angel who can save the world from destruction. Our fate rests in his hands, and needless to say a few of the characters in the series are a little worried about that!

In Her Avenging Angel, we’ll bring the whole gang back together, and meet some new angels who will be the focus of the next big story arc in the series, which will be the Angels of the Apocalypse series set in the Her Angel series world.

TRC: On what are you currently working?

Felicity: I’m editing Her Avenging Angel right now, and then I will be writing the first draft of Hunted by a Jaguar, which is the fourth book in the Eternal Mates series. One of the series bachelors, Kyter, is about to find himself in hot pursuit of his mate. Once I have the first draft of that book wrapped up, I’ll be working on the second draft of the first Guardians of Hades story, Ares, for release next year.

TRC: What’s in store for the remainder of 2014?

Felicity: At the moment, I have only one more planned release for 2014, which is Her Avenging Angel, but it might change. My schedule after October is pretty crazy, so I didn’t want to slate any releases for that period, and wanted to focus on getting Hunted by a Jaguar out in January.

TRC: Would you like to add anything else?

Felicity: Thanks for reading this interview! If you’re a reader of mine, I hope you’ve been enjoying my books and playing in my worlds, and that you’ll continue to read the stories I write.

If you’re new to me, then be sure to pick up the first books in some of my series, which are free in ebook. You can find them by searching Felicity Heaton at your favourite online ebook retailer like Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Apple, Kobo or Google Play.

TRC: Thank you Felicity for taking the time to update your readers . We wish you all the best.
