REVIEW: ASHES by Gail Haris is a stand alone, contemporary, adult, romance story line found in K.Bromberg’s multi-authored Everyday Heroes World. This is firefighter Carter Collins, and ER nurse Natalia Vasquez’s story line.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Natalia and Carter) ASHES follows the acrimonious but building romance between firefighter Carter Collins, and ER nurse Natalia Vasquez. Two years earlier, Carter Collins life imploded when he lost the love of his life, and his brother on the same night.Fast forward to present day wherein Carter struggles to move on from the past, a past mired in betrayal and heart break.Meeting ER nurse Natalie Vasquez stirs something deep within our story line hero but Carter’s delicate hold on sanity is put to the test when he discovers that Natalia Vasquez, has moved in with his grandmother after the fire that nearly claimed our heroine’s life. What ensues is the tempestuous relationship between Natalia and Carter, as Carter battles between head and heart, and the overwhelming memories that threaten any semblance of happiness for our story line hero, including a possible rival for our heroine’s heart.

Nothing has gone right for Natalia Vasquez since moving to the small town of Sunnyvale California. An apartment fire finds Natalie accepting an offer from an elderly woman who is none other than Carter Collins’ feisty grandmother but Carter continues to battle the demons from the past, and his attraction to Natalie is offset by memories of betrayal and pain. Carter Collins is a broken man, a man who believes he is not worthy of love, and has issues of trust where it concerns his heart but Carter is about to discover that the woman with whom he is falling in love has been targeted for sins of the past.

The slow building relationship between Carter and Natalia begins as professional front line workers but Carter barely sees beyond the fog of betrayal. As Carter’s grandmother Lolly sets into motion a plan to force our couple together, Carter stubbornly refuses to move beyond the demons of his past. The lone $ex scene is passionate and seductive; the sexual attraction is palpable and hot.

The colorful and energetic secondary and supporting characters include Carter’s grandmother Lolly, as well as Natalia’s parents, several hospital personnel, and firefighters; Carter’s ex-girl friend Payton, and his brother Warren, and real estate agent Seth Bohnert.

ASHES is a story of family, friendships and relationships; betrayal and heart break; acceptance and love. The premise is impassioned; the romance struggles in the face of Carter’s inability to let go of the past; the characters are responsive and dynamic.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date September 10, 2020

Jas T. Ward’s Hostage is a thrill ride of adventure with a sexy, paranormal romance twist written in K. Bromberg’s The Everyday Heroes World project.

Evan O’Brien lived his immortal existence committed to a life of hardcore service to the secret war and army of The Grid. Zero time for love. That emotion complicated his control on all aspects of his life. He was determined his heart had no say so. And nothing or no one could change that.

Lily Devenmore spent her days working with kids and a job surrounded by books at the library. She lived loud and as bold as being born to the Grid allowed. As love found her sisters, Lily longed for it too. But she had yet to find a man who wanted her and not change her.

That all changed in one day—not only was she held hostage but Evan learned he held his heart from ransom far too long. Could they rescue each other? With help of some of your favorite characters from The Everyday Heroes World, they just might.

••••••••••••••

REVIEW: Evan works as second in command for the secret army The Grid. He’s good at his job, he works long and demanding hours so he doesn’t have time to be social, love and friendships take a back seat. But all that changes when a hold up goes wrong and Lily is held hostage. He has to face the fact that he likes her! Where that came from is anyone’s guess.

Well no, actually that’s a lie, Evan knows exactly where that thought came from. Seems like someone has a secret thing for Lily. And he’s had it for a while…..

Lily works in a private school teaching first graders. She also works in the local library. Lily has two sisters Emma and Rose, they both work for The Grid also. Lily and her sisters lost both their parents and their brother to the “cause” protecting civilians from the demons that hunt them. Love isn’t high on her list of things to do, being in love hurt, so not for Lily thank you.

This book was so much fun to read. Set in a world where The grid is a secret army organised to fight demons and the things that creep out of hell!!!

Organised centuries ago, and here is the thing I found the most original, the good guys were all once bad guys! Earning a shot at redemption, if they pass, they get too live an immortal life on earth (still working for the grid I wasn’t sure on that part)

This book is part of a series. (The Everyday Hero’s World) its a little confusing finding the series. I haven’t read any of the others, I don’t think your missing out on anything. They are connected in some way, but as they are written by different authors, it’s safe to say they don’t need to be read in order.

But the author also has a world for these characters (and I may go and have a look) think there might be a spin off as well!

Evan and Lily constantly bang heads, she’s too loud and in your face. Evan is a stickler for rules and paperwork, so you do have to wonder how they come together?!

Really well thought out and written. Very descriptive, hilarious in parts (I did like Lily’s attitude) she always had a comeback or put down.

I really liked Lily, except for her lack of self esteem, she was a pretty funny woman. Fiery and passionate, loyal to her family and close friends, but with a side that makes you want to cuddle her up close and fight in her corner. Watching her parents die couldn’t have been easy, watching her sisters gets all the attention from boys had to be hard, but Lily is a fighter, she’s come to terms with who she is, except when Evan tells her how sexy she is, it’s hard to believe him.

Evan is a character I’d like to know more about. Centuries old, a mob bosses enforcer, he had the chance to redeem himself and took it. With fangs and a tendency to go crispy in the sun, you’d think they were vampires! Nope! According to Evan not vampires, they just share a few of the sane characteristics (think it’s the fact they’ve come from hell)

I get the impression he can’t take time off, is it to atone for his past? He feels he has to be in control of everything.

The chemistry once lit between these two was explosive. Evan started the ball rolling when they were trapped in the bunker, he told Lily exactly how he felt about her.

So how does a workaholic commander keep the loud and brash librarian/schoolteacher? Because trying to convince Lily he wants something more than a one night stand is going to be an uphill battle.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date November 13, 2018

Control is something Desi Whitman abhors. Why live life in black and white perfection when you can messily color outside the lines?

But when she comes face to face with SWAT officer Reznor Mayne, he’s about to show her just how good control can feel.

••••••

REVIEW: CONTROL by K. Bromberg is instalment 3.5 (and novella) in the author’s EVERYDAY HEROES, erotic, romance series, and the latest instalment in the multi-authored 1001 Dark Nights. This is pet groomer Desi Whitman, and SWAT Team commander Reznor Mayne’s story line. CONTROL can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story line in the EVERYDAY HEROES series is revealed where necessary.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Desi and Reznor) CONTROL follows the building relationship between pet groomer Desi Whitman, and SWAT Team commander Reznor Mayne. Reznor Mayne needs a break. When his last assignment went all to h*ll, the SWAT Team leader was ready to pack it in but his commanding officer told him to take some time off in order to re-evaluate his priorities. Heading to Sunnyville, California Reznor volunteered to work the local Self Defense Class. Enter pet groomer and self-defense student Desi Whitman, and the woman with whom Reznor would fall in love. What ensues is the contemptuous relationship between Desi and Reznor, and the potential fall-out as Desi is unable to let go of the past, pushing Reznor out of her life.

Desi Whitman is lost and struggles to move forward with her life. Suffering PTSD from a home invasion, our heroine begins to pull away from family and friends, preferring to remain locked behind closed doors fearing an attack at any moment. Meeting Reznor Mayne brings all sorts of problems including a palpable sexual attraction, an attraction that is in opposition her need to keep all men at a distance. Reznor Mayne knows the struggle of PTSD including the nightly terrors that keep our hero up late into the night but Reznor had no idea he would meet his future in a woman caught up in the memories of the past, a past he is hoping to help her forget.

The relationship between Reznor and Desi is one of immediate attraction but Desi’s need to belittle all men adds insult to injury for an already broken ‘everyday hero’. Desi struggles with her attraction to Reznor Mayne, an attraction that brings out some mean-spirited attitude that doesn’t belong. The $ex scenes are intimate and intense.

The secondary and supporting characters are colorful and dynamic. We are introduced to instructor Bear, as well as the return of Grant and Emerson Malone (Cuffed #1) for cohesion.

CONTROL is a story of friendship, love and happily ever after; a tale of struggle, romance, and moving forward. The premise is engaging and entertaining; the romance struggles in the face of preconceived notions; the characters are colorful and animated but I had a difficult time accepting the heroine’s immaturity and attitude. Desi’s vulnerability is expected but her treatment of others is questionable and disheartening. Sometimes there is no forgiveness when a character’s behaviour is problematic. My enjoyment of the story line suffered with the heroine’s biased attitude.

“Remind me not to like him.”
“Like who?” she asks.
Gotta keep her on her toes.
“Logan St. Assh*le,” I say. “Guys who have cats—correction, guys who name their cat Pussy—either aren’t getting any or are using the name as a way to state they’re not gay when everyone already knows they are.”
“Is that so?”
“Yep. Why be ashamed of who you are and hide behind a cat? Just live the best life.”
There’s something I say that has her head tilting to the side again. She takes me in a little longer than expected. “It’s the former,” she finally admits.
I shrug. “Why is he an assh*le?”
“The bigger question is how is he not an assh*le?” For the briefest of moments I see a ghost of a smile on her lips, and it reminds me of how pretty she was the other day before the defense class began when she was chatting me up.
“Doggy Style?” I ask.
“That’s the name.”
“But Pussy is a cat.”
“You’re quite observant…”
“I can imagine you attract all kinds of interesting folks with that name,” I say, dismissing her sarcasm.
For the briefest of moments something flickers through her eyes and before I can put a finger on it, the emotion is gone, but it reminds me of what I saw in them the other day after class.
“Just as I’m sure you do working with SWAT.”
“Always.” I look at the cute cottage-style house. “You lived here long?”
We stare at each other in silence, and it’s almost as if she remembers she isn’t supposed to like me. Her expression and posture suddenly stiffen…probably because she realized she was smiling at me.
And f*ck if I know why it turns me on.
“It’s none of your business.”
So that’s how she wants to play it? Fine.
“Then it’s also none of my business that Pussy ran into the house about two minutes ago.” She narrows her eyes and sneers at me again. “It’s your loss, Desi.”
“What is?”
“That you don’t trust me to show you just how good I am with something wet and groomed.” And with that parting comment, I flash her a lightning-quick grin before heading to my side of the fence, while she grumbles and curses me out under her breath.
I hear her door slam.
I hear her call for Pussy again.
And all I can think about is how damn unexpected she is—and at the same time such a very welcome distraction.
I think I’m going to like my time in Sunnyville.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date May 15, 2018

This whole contest was supposed to be easy. I know, I know. Famous last words.

It’s a long story, but I messed up at work. Big time. To earn back the trust of my boss, I promised to save one of our magazines. Yep. That Hot Dad contest you’ve seen advertised all over the place was my idea. And if I’m successful, if I’m able to increase our online readership, then I get a shot at my dream job.

But the one thing I never expected to happen, happened: Contestant number ten, Grayson Malone. Hello, Mr. Difficult. And did I mention sexy as hell?

Unfortunately he knows me. The old me, anyway. And while we might be older now, I remind him of before. Of the woman who broke his heart, who hardened him, and who left him alone to raise the cutest little boy I’ve ever seen.

But I don’t want a relationship. And I definitely don’t fall for single dads with baggage. Even ones with chiselled abs and killer smiles.

But he got to me. They got to me. Him and his son and their messy, crazy life. But I got to him too. I see the stolen glances. I feel the walls he built start to crumble. I recognize that there’s an unexpected beauty to the chaos in his life.

And now that the contest is about to end, we’re left to decide whether the last six months were just fun or if what we have is worth risking it all?

REVIEW: WORTH THE RISK is the third instalment in K. Bromberg’s contemporary, adult EVERYDAY HEROES erotic romance story line. This is publishing heiress and journalist Sidney Thorton, and single father/rescue pilot Grayson Malone’s story line. WORTH THE RISK can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Grayson and Sidney) WORTH THE RISK follows the acrimonious relationship between publishing heiress Sidney Thorton, and single father/rescue pilot Grayson Malone. Sidney Thorton screwed up, big time, but she wasn’t in a position to reveal the truth to the man in charge. Hoping to teach his daughter a lesson, publishing magnate Frank Thorton offers his daughter one last chance to prove she is worthy by sending her to the small town of Sunnyville, where she was born, to pick of the pieces of ‘Modern Family’ a dying magazine within the Thorton Publishing family. Enter Grayson Malone, single father and rescue pilot, and the man with whom Sidney would fall in love. What ensues is the contemptuous relationship and romance between Sidney and Grayson, and the potential fall-out as Sidney’s time in Sunnyville, draws to an end.

WORTH THE RISK is an enemies to friends romance. As a teen, Sidney Thorton was a snob; a rich girl who looked down on those she deemed less worthy including our story line hero. Sidney is desperate to improve the circulation of ‘Modern Family’, and a ‘Hot Dad’ contest is just the thing. Discovering Grayson Malone was a ‘Hot Dad’ finalist, Sidney is tasked with persuading Grayson to remain in the running. Growing up in a hard working, blue-collar family of first responders Grayson Malone knows life can be hard to the people left behind but getting reacquainted with the woman that reminds him too much of his past, is something Grayons refuses to acknowledge.

The relationship between Grayson and Sidney is slow to build as Sidney is tasked with convincing Grayson to accept his placement in the ‘Hot Dad’ contest. To get involved with one of the competitors could mean disqualification for Grayson, and the potential loss of respect and Sidney’s job but the sexual attraction is heavy and hot. The $ex scenes are intimate and seductive, without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

The secondary and supporting characters are colorful and fun. We are re-introduced to Grayson brothers: police officer Grant and his wife Emerson (Cuffed #1), fire fighter Grady and Dylan (Combust #2) as well as Sidney’s co-worker and editor in chief of Modern Family Rissa Patel, her best friend Zoey, father Frank, Grayson’s parents, and his adorable and heart breaking son Luke.

WORTH THE RISK is a passionate story line; a tale of one man unable to let go of the past, and one woman who is desperately trying to prove she is worth a second chance. The premise is emotional and realistic; the characters are spirited and energetic; the romance is captivating and intense.

But by the time I reach her, my blood boils with irrationality spurred on by too much alcohol.
“Can I have a moment?” I ask as I walk up to her and grab her elbow, pushing her down the darkened hallway.
“What is your problem?” She hisses as she fights me every step of the way.
We get looks. I get looks. I don’t care because all I keep seeing is Vince’s hands on her arm. His eyes on her tits. His bullshit game I can spot a mile away.
I find the closest door down the hallway leading to the bathrooms, and it opens. I push her through it, barely noticing that it’s an office of sorts before the door is shut, her back is up against it, and my mouth is covering hers.
Take.
Goddammit. That’s my only thought as I fit my lips to hers and take out my anger on her mouth with tongue and teeth and every fucking lick and nip in between.
“What—”
“I’m so pissed at you.”
It’s all I say. It’s the only chance I give her to come up for air before my lips are back on hers. Before my tongue wars with hers. Before my body admits it would beg, borrow, and steal in order to taste every other part of her.
Groan.
I swallow the tiny sound she makes in our kiss as my hands hold her neck still and my lips wage an all-out assault. She hesitates—just a split second—before she reacts. Before her body bows into me, and her mouth argues back.
Fist.
Her hand in my shirt. Her other hand at the back of my neck as our bodies meet—pressed knee to chest. Her perfume in my nose. Her hair tickling my cheeks. The feel of her tits against my chest.
Give.
I can’t get enough.
I’m mad at her.
I want her.
I don’t want to want her.
Christ, do I want her.
“Gray.” A murmured protest.
I tear my lips from hers, shove off the door I have her pressed against, and stride to the other side of the room.
“You are . . . you just . . .” It’s as if I can barely breathe. Christ, I’m mad at you.”
She stands there, lips parted, chest heaving, and golden brown curls messed from my hands, but her eyes look hurt. A hurt I don’t want to see but can’t deny.
“Why?”
“You did this,” I accuse as I try to manage the anger that’s waging a war against my desire.
“Did what?” Her eyes narrow. Her hand goes to press against her chest.
“Made me want you.”

Grayson: I’ve been thinking about you all day.

I look down at the text and smile before turning my attention back to Rissa and our plans for how we’re going to end this round of voting and move on to the top five.
“So, I think we close it out and then maybe take the next week and announce one of the finalists each day. Give little tidbits about each of them, make readers like them more, just have fun with it.”
My phone beeps again with another text, and I bite back the new grin trying to form on my lips. Rissa only huffs, eyeing my phone with annoyance. “Sorry, let me turn my ringer off.”
And then I have to feign nonchalance when I look down at my phone and find another text.

Grayson: My dick is rock hard, and it’s you I’m imagining. It’s in my hand when I’d rather it be in your mouth with my fingers in your pussy, working you into a frenzy.

“Is everything okay?” Rissa asks, making me realize I must have made a noise when I read the text. “You look startled.”
I glance back at the text again and shake my head while every part of my body comes to life. “Yeah, it’s, uh, fine.”
“Your ringer.” Her brows are lifted as she glances to my phone and then back to me.
“My finger?” I squeak, thinking she saw the phone screen.
“Ringer. Sound on your phone.”
“Oh, yes . . . sorry.” Flustered, I fumble with my cell, and before I can even switch it off, another text alert pings.

Grayson: I want to bend you over and watch as my cock slides in and out of you.

“So back to next week . . .”
“Yes,” I swallow over the desire lodged in every place it should be and try not to glance at my phone as it vibrates again.
“Are you good with that plan?” Rissa asks as I shift in my seat to abate the sudden ache burning brighter than bright.
“Yes. Sure. I think that sounds like a great plan.”

Grayson: I want my cock buried so deep that you feel every damn inch of me.

“Are you sure you’re okay?”
“Yeah, why?” My voice breaks like a prepubescent teenager.

Grayson: I want you to come so hard you have to bite the pillow.

“You look a little flushed. Are you coming down with something?”

Grayson: You always have a choice. Isn’t that what you said to me once? Make a choice, Sidney. Isn’t it time to head to lunch?

“I mean, yeah, maybe.” I pull at my collar some. “Maybe that’s why I feel so flushed all of a sudden.”

Grayson: Meet me on the backside of The Cottages. Room Six. Fifteen minutes.

“Either that,” she says as she stands and heads to the door, only turning back to give me a wink, “or you’re guilty as hell. Maybe you should go take care of that itch texting you . . . or take some Tylenol. Whichever one it is, I think you should take the afternoon off.”

Grayson: Choose me.

“Oh.” It’s the only thing I can think to say because my brain is otherwise occupied imagining Grayson following through on his promises.
“And, Sid?”
“Yeah?”
“I sure hope he’s every bit worth breaking the rules.” She winks. “It’s about damn time. Your secret is safe with me.”

REVIEW: COMBUST is the second instalment in K. Bromberg’s contemporary, adult EVERYDAY HEROES erotic, romance series focusing on the Malone brothers: Grant, Grayson and Grady Malone. This is firefighter Grady Malone, and singer/songwriter Dylan McCoy’s story line. COMBUST can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story line is revealed where necessary.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Dylan and Gray) COMBUST follows songwriter Dylan McCoy in the aftermath of catching her long time lover and writing partner –rock star Jett Kroger- in the bed with another woman. Hoping for some alone time to write, Dylan’s brother Damon sends our heroine to Sunnyville where she will meet and temporarily settle down with Grady Malone-a broken and embittered firefighter battling demons of his own. What ensues is the building relationship between Grady and Dylan, and the potential fall out when Dylan’s time in Sunnyville comes to an end.

Dylan McCoy has contractual obligations including another twenty-four songs for rock star Jett Kroger-the man who broke her heart but refuses to let go of the past. Staying with firefighter Grady Malone finds our heroine considering a possible future but a future fraught with the worries and agony of which she is all too familiar. Already scarred from a fatal fire Grady struggles to move on with his life as he struggles with PTSD and survivors guilt.

The relationship between Grady and Dylan is one of immediate attraction but Grady has no plans for a happily ever after knowing the life of a firefighter leaves too many widows and orphans in their wake. The $ex scenes are intimate, erotic and intense without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

We are reintroduced to Grady’s brothers: police officer Grant and his wife Emerson (Cuffed #1), and rescue pilot Grayson Malone and his son Luke, as well as their parents police Chief and Betsy Malone; several firefighters including Dempsey, Dixon, Veego, Bowie, Mack and Wes Winters; Shelby and Brody; rock star Jett Kroger, and record studio personnel Kai, Henry and Callum.

The world building focuses on family and friendship; on the dangerous world of first responders, and the fall out of the disasters waiting to happen.

COMBUST is an emotional story line as one man struggles with memories from the past, and one woman battles issues of self-esteem. Their mutual walls slowly begin to crumble but time and the inevitable good-bye dampen any hopes for a happily ever after. The premise is captivating and alluring; the romance is passionate and hot; the characters are damaged, hopeful and real. K. Bromberg invites the reader into her world of ‘everyday heroes’ and the women they love.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date October 23, 2017

“I hate you. I never want to see you again.”

Grant Malone is not the reason I moved back to Sunnyville—at least that’s what I tell myself. Yet, those parting words I said to him back in third grade, ring in my ears every time a townsperson brings up one of the Malone boys. I thought time had healed my wounds. I was wrong. Nothing could have prepared me for how I felt when I finally saw him again.

Twenty years does a lot to turn a boy into a man. One who hits all my buttons—sexy, funny, attractive, and a police officer. But Grant is off limits because he knows too much about my past.

But I’m drawn to him. That damn uniform of his doesn’t hurt either. It’ll be my downfall. I know it.

What’s one night of sex going to hurt . . . right?

***

I’ve always loved Emmy Reeves.

That’s why I’m shocked to see her all these years later. The shy girl I once knew is all grown up.

Adventurous and full of life, she owns my heart now, just as much as she did back then. Convincing her of that is a whole different story.

I’ll give her the one night she asks for—like that’s a hardship—but when it comes to letting her walk away after, she has another thing coming. There’s no way in hell I’m letting her go this time without a fight.

REVIEW: CUFFED is the first instalment in K. Bromberg’s contemporary adult EVERYDAY HEROES romance series focusing on the Malone brothers: Grant, Grayson and Grady Malone. This is police officer Grant Malone, and skydiving instructor Emerson ‘Emmy’ Reeves’ story line.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Emerson and Grant) using present day and memories from the past, CUFFED follows the rebuilding relationship between childhood friends Grant Malone, and Emerson Reeves. At the age of eight years old Grant Malone lost his best friend Emerson Reeves when secrets behind closed doors forced our hero to find a way to save the little girl he would always love. Fast forward twenty years wherein Emerson Reeves returns to Sunnyville in an attempt to start her own business-Blue Skies-a business that is currently struggling but available for sale. But for Emerson Reeves a return to Sunnyville also means a return of the long forgotten memories and pain of a time long ago-memories our heroine has buried along with her past. Enter Grant Malone, Sunnyville’s resident ‘sexy cop’, and the man Emerson blames for everything that went wrong. What ensues is the rebuilding but struggling relationship between two people whose lives went in different directions twenty years earlier.

Grant Malone’s reputation as a player precedes his re-introduction to our story line heroine but Emerson Reeves emotions and anger towards our story line hero are predicated on an eight year old child’s inability to deal with events that no eight year old child should ever endure. For close to twenty years Emerson has placed the blame on her nomadic lifestyle on the actions of an eight year old boy- a boy whose love and friendship with Emerson meant protecting the little girl at all costs. The focus of the story looks at one woman’s past, and her need to act out and strike at the young boy, now a man.

The relationship between Emerson and Grant is one of second chances; of a friendship destroyed by mistaken beliefs, time and distance; of one young girl’s horrific past and the buried memories of what happened and why. The $ex scenes are intimate and seductive, without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

We are introduced to Grant’s siblings: Firefighter Grady, and rescue pilot Grayson Malone; their parents retired police Chief Malone and his wife Betsy; Grant’s partner on the force Officer Nate; Emerson’s best friend Desi Whitman; Blue Skies jump coordinator Leo, and loan officer Chris Severson.

CUFFED is an emotional and heartbreaking story; a second chance for two people whose loved and lost so much more than a schoolyard friend. The premise is sexy, edgy and powerful; the characters are passionate and real; the romance is sensual and energetic. K. Bromberg invites the read into an intimate story of friendship and family; moving forward and letting go.
