ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date May 7, 2019

In the courtroom, they’re rivals. In the bedroom, they’re . . . divorced. But could the road trip from hell lead to a second chance at love?

Aubrey Gates is the hottest divorce lawyer in Chicago, a barb-tongued stiletto with legs that go on for miles. When her cool gray eyes meet mine across the battlefield, I want her like I’ve never wanted anyone or anything. Then I remember who she is: the woman who brought me to my knees. The woman who destroyed my faith in relationships.

The woman I used to call . . . wife.

And she needs a favor from me, Grant Lincoln.

It seems my ex forgot to mention the demise of our marriage to her dear old grammie, and now we’re both expected to attend her ninetieth birthday party. In Boston. And because it isn’t already awkward enough, Aubrey and I are driving there together from Chicago. That’s more than a thousand miles of tension, heartbreak, and barely concealed lust.

A little piece of paper might say we’re over, but this road trip is the true test. I intend to get my wife back . . . and I won’t stop until “I do.”

••••••••••

REVIEW: THEN CAME YOU is the third (and final ?) instalment in Kate Meader’s contemporary, adult LAWS OF ATTRACTION erotic, romance series focusing on three friends and law partners: Max Henderson, Lucas Wright and Grant Lincoln. This is formerly married divorce attorneys thirty-one year old Grant Lincoln, and thirty-year old Aubrey Gates’ story line. THEN CAME YOU can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous instalments is revealed where necessary.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Grant and Aubrey) using present day and memories from the past, THEN CAME YOU focuses on the second chance relationship between formerly married divorce attorneys: thirty-one year old Grant Lincoln, and thirty-year old Aubrey Gates. Over two years earlier Grant and Aubrey’s marriage fell apart, slowly spiralling out of control when grief and loss formed the elephant in the room. Fast forward to present day, wherein Aubrey’s fear of flying finds her former husband Grant Lincoln offering his services to drive from Chicago to Boston for the Thanksgiving holiday, and Aubrey’s Grandmother’s ninetieth birthday. Along with Aubrey’s psychotic cat, Grant and Aubrey trek cross-country while Aubrey refuses to acknowledge the struggles of the past. What ensues is the rebuilding and rekindling relationship between Aubrey and Grant, and the potential fall-out as Aubrey’s detachment and refusal to talk about what happened and why, push Grant, one final time.

Aubrey’s childhood of privilege never included the unconditional love of two adoring parents. Believing herself unworthy, our heroine struggles with what was and what will never be. Grant Lincoln has never stopped loving our story line heroine but convincing Aubrey they are both entitled to a second chance is harder than Grant could have ever imagined.

The relationship between Aubrey and Grant is a rekindling romance between two people whose life together will forever be changed. Aubrey and Grant blame themselves for what happened and why but sometimes there is no explanation for tragedy or loss. Never forgetting about the woman that called to his heart, Grant is hoping that their time together will trigger the love they once shared. The $ex scenes are intimate, passionate and seductive, without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

There is a large ensemble cast of colorful and energetic secondary and supporting characters including Aubrey and Grant’s large extended families as well as Aubrey’s mother Marie-Claire, her father Jeffrey and his girlfriend Mercedes, and all-knowing grandmother Libby; Grant’s fellow business partners and attorneys Mac and Charlie (Down With Love #1), Lucas and Trinity (Illegally Yours #2).

THEN CAME YOU is an emotional and heart breaking story of family, friendship, love and loss; of pain and remorse; of second chances and moving on from the past. The premise is impassioned, sensitive and revealing; the romance is realistic and spirited; the characters are charismatic, flawed, and animated. THEN CAME YOU is an introspective on life, loss, acceptance and love.

My second dirty martini appears before I’ve finished my first. I turn to find him at the end of the bar, and my breath catches just as it did that first day I saw him in the lecture hall. How does he do it? More to the point, how dare he do it?
He raises his beer bottle—Budweiser, Grant doesn’t care for anything crafty—and gives me that slow, shy smile, the one guaranteed to heat me from the inside out and make my panties slip an inch or two. These days, it takes more than that for the full-scale underwear drop. I’ve become more circumspect in my old age.
I raise my glass back and shift my thigh so my skirt rides up a little. It’s deliberate, an invitation. In a few seconds, the seat beside me is host to the most excellent ass I’ve ever had the pleasure of fondling. To think those gorgeous buns were all mine for the exploring and gripping and biting—
Hold up there, Gates.
There will be no butt-grabbing or ass-nibbling shenanigans with your ex-husband!
But said ex-husband has always had a way with words. “Want to screw ourselves stupid in my hotel room?”
I almost choke on an olive. A resounding clap on the back coughs it up from my throat, whereupon I deposit it on a napkin. First off, I give it an accusing glare as if that spherical blob is to blame for the less than sophisticated response to what I just heard.
“Ever heard of foreplay?”
He raises an eyebrow. “Seven hours in the car with your whining cat. All the foreplay I need.”
I laugh my head off. The muscles in my belly constrict, questioning this burst of energy, and I realize it’s been a long time since I let loose like this.
“All right, all right, let’s try again,” he drawls. “Waiting for someone?”
“Yeah, my date. He’s stuck in traffic.”
“Not a boyfriend, then?”
I give him a look, then a sharper one at his Budweiser bottle, playing like he’s beneath me.
“He’ll be here any moment. Weather, y’know.”
“Probably a good idea not to have him pick you up at your place.”
“Oh?”
“He would’ve had to take you, there and then, just inside the door. Lift that skirt and slip in deep and true.”
Just like one of our dates back in ancient times. I abstain from picking up my martini because my hand will shake all that precious alcohol onto the bar.
“I already told you there’d be no funny business, Grant. It’s just too complicated.”
“But you’re not denying that it’s crossed your mind.”
“Hard not to. Sex was never an issue between us. You’re still reasonably attractive, and I’m not dead.”
If anything, he’s become hotter in the last year. Perhaps it’s the slight sadness I imagine in his eyes whenever we meet. Melancholy shouldn’t be so sexy.
“So the only thing in the way is a boatload of history, recrimination, bitterness, and failure.” He sips his beer, a knowing lift to his eyebrow, all while keeping his eyes on me. “Just reasonably attractive, Bean?”
I shake my head. “Confidence was never your problem, Georgia.”
“Oh, I don’t know. I lost a little faith at one point.”
And there it is again, that wall between us that’s impossible to scale.
“Is this the point where I should apologize?”
“No,” he says immediately. “I’m not saying that to make you feel guilty, simply telling you where I’m coming from. We know each other too well to sugarcoat it.”
He’s right. But our familiarity with each other’s quirks and tics doesn’t make it any easier. If anything, it’s a millstone around our necks. We had something wonderful and it burned to an ash of regrets.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date May 7, 2019

Dustin is a ranch hand with a reputation around town as a ladies’ man. He loves flirting and the thrill of the chase. When he tilts his cowboy hat just so, no one can resist his charms. It’s all fun and games for Dustin until he meets a woman who sparks real feelings in him, and he’s blindsided by love.

Annie is an animal trainer working on set for a film. Other than her furry, canine coworkers, she hasn’t connected with the rest of the crew working on the movie. It’s only when a certain cowboy catches her eye that Wyoming becomes interesting. She intends for their romance to be a fling, but by the time filming wraps up, she’s unexpectedly pregnant.

While Annie is prepared to walk away and raise her baby by herself, Dustin isn’t so ready to say goodbye. He has to prove to Annie that she has a future in Wyoming and capture her heart before it’s too late.

•••••••••••

REVIEW:  THE COWBOY AND HIS BABY by Jessica Clare is a contemporary, adult, stand alone, cowboy romance story line focusing on twenty-nine year old, ranch hand Dustin Worthington, and professional dog trainer Annie Grissom.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Dustin and Annie) THE COWBOY AND HIS BABY follows the building relationship between twenty-nine year old, ranch hand Dustin Worthington, and professional dog trainer Annie Grissom. While on location in Painted Barrel, Wyoming, professional dog trainer Annie Grissom met ranch hand Dustin Worthington, the man with whom she would fall in love. A quick courtshi, and one night of $ex ended when Annie came face to face with Dustin’s past, a past that wasn’t finished with our story line hero. Fast forward to present day wherein eight months would pass before Los Angeles based Annie would see Wyoming ranch hand Dustin again, a very pregnant Annie who had yet to tell Dustin about the child they conceived. What ensues is the rebuilding friendship and relationship between Annie and Dustin, and the potential fall-out as Annie believes she interrupted Dustin’s future plans, and in doing so, sets the stage for our heroine to run, yet again.

Annie Grissom trains dogs for Hollywood movies but struggles with a direction in her life. Meeting Dustin Worthington meant a few days of $ex and fun, never thinking that Dustin would be part of her future. Dustin Worthington was biding his time in Painted Barrel, Wyoming until the day he would set sail around the world but Annie’s return meant a different future for Dustin, a future that included a child and perhaps a wife.

The relationship between Annie and Dustin is one of immediate attraction but Annie knows her time in Wyoming comes with an expiry date. There are definitely some issues of miscommunication and a lack of trust, issues that will send Annie running at the first and second sign of perceived problems. The $ex scenes are passionate and intimate, without the use of over the top sexually graphic language and text.

There is a large ensemble cast of colorful and energetic secondary and supporting characters: ranchers Eli and Cass; ranch hand Jordy, rancher Old Clyde; Annie’s mother Kitty, a woman whose less than motherly advice has shaped our story line heroine; Annie’s friend Katherine; Dustin’s ex Theresa, as well as several members of the Hollywood movie crew.

The world building focuses on the up and down relationship between our story line couple, a relationship that saw several months apart without any information or history revealed. Annie’s mother is over the top-her advice and support of her daughter is questionable as to the intent or desired results. Annie’s friend and rep for the American Humane Society Katherine offers more negative advise and warnings; and Dustin’s ex is a piece of work, who in reality, would be fired for the things she says while at work and on the job.

THE COWBOY AND HIS BABY is a story of miscommunication, doubt and mistrust; of lies and deceit; of attraction, romance, and falling in love. The premise is engaging; the romance is passionate; the characters are charismatic and sassy. I question some of the reality including the actions of Dustin’s ex-there is no way she would be allowed to say the things she does at work without repercussions or losing her job: and Annie’s lack of a spine regarding Dustin’s past was a bit disconcerting under the circumstances but such is the nature of romantic story lines, otherwise there would have be no conflict to resolve.

Her smile was radiant, and it took his breath away. “I’m having a wonderful afternoon and I can’t thank you enough for taking the time out of your day to humor me.”“You can thank me by going out on another date with me,” he told her, and when she looked surprised, he wondered if he’d pushed it too far, if she was going to get skittish on him. He had to try, though. He hadn’t been this fascinated with a woman in what felt like forever.

“Was this a date?” Her tone was light and teasing, but she glanced down at her lap before looking over at him, and he realized she was shy.

“Parts of it count.”

“Which parts?”

“The parts where I want to lean over and kiss you.” “Oh,” Annie said softly. Her lips parted and she grew silent, then said, “Are there a lot of those parts?”

“Happens about once every two minutes,” he admitted with a smile. “Hope you don’t think less of me for being a little single‐minded.”

“Not at all. I appreciate honesty.” There was a hint of color rising under those freckles. “Do you think we should kiss?”

Dustin kept his expression carefully neutral, because reaching across the cab of the truck and pulling her against him would probably be frowned on. Probably. “I’d reckon that’s your call.”

She thought for a moment, her gaze flicking to his mouth as if considering her options. “If we kiss, I don’t want you to think I want a boyfriend.”

He laughed. “If it helps, I don’t think I’m boyfriend material.”

“But you still want to kiss me.” It was a statement, not a question.

“You look pretty kissable to me. And I like kissing. And I like you, so I figure I’ll like kissing you.”

“Can’t argue with that logic.” Annie licked her lips. “All right. Fine. Let’s do it.”

Such enthusiasm. He bit back a laugh. “As long as we’re sure it doesn’t mean anything to either of us,” he said gravely.

“Oh, just shut up and kiss me so I can quit wondering about it.”

Was she wondering about it? He liked that he wasn’t the only one. “Lean in, then.”

Obediently, Annie leaned forward, and as she did, he noticed she was breathing rapidly, her hands fluttering slightly in her lap. Nerves? That seemed ridiculous, given that she was so damn appealing. He loved the freckles on her eyelids, the pale lashes, the curve of her cheek, the way she responded with sarcasm. He loved her big heart and the fact that she stoutly told him she did not want a boyfriend.

Annie Grissom had him fascinated, all right.

So he touched her chin and met her halfway.

Her mouth parted under his, soft and sweet. She tasted like strawberry milkshake and Dustin had to bite back a groan when she pulled his hat off and tossed it aside, as if she made out with cowboys every day. They shared a light, teasing caress, more of a flirtation of lips than anything else, and he was content to keep it light. Gentle. Playful.

But then she made this lovely, deep noise of pleasure in her throat, and he was lost.

Screw playful.

Dustin’s hand went to the back of her neck and he cupped it even as he slicked his tongue against the seam of her mouth. She moaned, opening up to allow him in. With a plunge of his tongue, he claimed her mouth with a hard, possessive stroke, loving how she responded. Her tongue played against his, her hands sliding to his shirt to hold him in place—as if he’d leave—and the kiss grew deeper, more urgent. He was lost in the moment, lost to everything but the feel of her mouth against his.

It was a fantastic kiss. He wanted to keep going forever, to pull her into his lap and strip that sweater off of her and discover if she was freckled everywhere. As his tongue slicked against hers again, Annie gave another sultry little moan.

Colt isn’t about to let his friend lose his sister again so soon…or miss his own chance at a happy ending with Macie before they’ve barely had a beginning.

“Everything good?” he asked.
Macie nodded.
“No, Macie,” he said as he put a hand on the side of her neck and leaned in. “Are you good?”
She couldn’t help the small smile that broke out. “I’m good,” she told him. “Really. I liked them. Annie is hysterical, and I loved getting to know Emily and Casey more.”
“And Mary? Did she behave?”
Macie must’ve hesitated a moment too long, because Colt sighed and pulled back. He reached for her hand and pulled her into the living room. He sat on the couch and tugged Macie down onto his lap. He put his arms around her waist and held her firmly.
Macie stared at him in shock. They’d slept curled up next to each other every night, and Colt never hesitated to touch her, to caress her cheek or run a hand over her hair. But he’d never simply hauled her around before—at least, not since the night of the break-in—and she hadn’t sat on anyone’s lap since she was five years old.
Not sure where to put her hands, she rested them in her lap awkwardly.
“What’d she say?” Colt asked.
“Nothing.”
“Mace,” he said more gently. “I can tell she said something. I mean, it’s Mary, she can’t help herself, it’s part of her charm.” He smiled. “Now tell me, so I can reassure you about whatever it was, and then I’ll go get us some dinner. I’m hungry.”
It was the last bit that made Macie change her mind about telling him. She had a feeling he would sit there all night if she didn’t spill. He was that stubborn. But his stubbornness was one of the many reasons she was crazy about him.
Pushing those feelings to the back of her mind, refusing to think about them right now, she said, “I’m sure she was exaggerating, or that she simply doesn’t know the truth.”
“About what?”
Taking a deep breath, Macie said, “She was just trying to make sure I knew what this was. What was happening here. And she told me about you killing a bunch of people when your friend was captured.”
She felt Colt’s thigh muscles tense under her butt, and it seemed as if the air in the room thickened with emotion.
Oh shit. Why had she told him? She should’ve made something up. She was such an idiot! Now he was going to tell her she couldn’t stay at his house anymore, that he couldn’t help her. She should’ve kept her big mouth shut!

“It’s just…my circumstances were so different from yours, you know? In my mind, it wasn’t even a possibility that you could be attracted to someone like me.”
“Well, hopefully that kiss cleared it up for you, because I’m still attracted to you, Knox, and I’m not gonna play games with you about it. The question is…” He trailed his fingertips along the inside of her forearm. “Are you attracted to me?”
Goosebumps exploded along her arm, racing up her neck, and cascading down her entire body, but she wouldn’t let Mr. Smugness see. “Please. We’re pals, nothing more.” But he wasn’t stupid. He had to hear the tremor in her voice.
“Hm. Interesting.” He leaned over her, looking into her eyes. “I had no idea your eyes were black. Oh, wait. They’re dilated.” He gently brushed his fingers over her collarbone, his thumb teasing her pebbled skin. “Are you…attracted to me?”
She squeezed her thighs together. “I mean, you’re okay and everything, but…” Her expression said, Meh.
“That right?” He shifted closer—but not quite touching.
His body heat, his scent, that intense look in his eyes…God. She tried to act nonplussed, but it didn’t work. Blood rushed up her neck, and desire pulsed between her legs.
“Let’s test it. If you’re not attracted to me, this won’t take but a minute.” He lowered his face into the crook of her neck. “Do me a quick favor? Inhale. Real deep. Get a lungful of my pheromones.”
“Shut up.” She tried to push him, but he was solid as granite.
“I just want to see if my scent works for you. Go on, breathe me in.”
“You’re such an idiot. Get off me.”
He lifted his head, bringing his mouth right to her ear. “I’m conducting an experiment, and I’m going to need you to stay very still. Quit squirming.” His lips brushed across her cheek—barely touching—until he reached her jaw line. Then, he glanced up at her. “Okay, that’s fascinating. I’d hoped for some pink, but you’re beet red. That’s way beyond blushing, sugar buns.”
“Okay, we’re done here.”
“Not yet.” He gently cupped her jaw. “There’s one last test.” The moment their gazes met, the mischief turned into pure, unadulterated lust. “This is the one that counts.” He brought his mouth over hers and kissed her.
Everything inside her turned creamy and hot. She wanted to slide her hands through all that thick, unruly hair, wanted to feel his hard, muscled body on top of hers.
But fear had a grip on her. It’s Gray. She didn’t want to know such extreme pleasure, get attached to a man who thrilled her, comforted her, wanted her, and then watch him walk away.
They didn’t have a future. Anyone could see that. What would happen after he left for his first competition? Got back into his familiar world of traveling from one country to another, one event to another?
She could have one night with him, maybe two. Three, four, what did it matter? Her heart and soul would get engage, and then he’d be gone.
Gray pulled away, the pad of his thumb on her mouth, looking utterly crestfallen. “It’s okay.”
What’s okay?
“I was just messing with you.” He started to roll away from her, and she realized she’d zoned out, let her fears stand on the mountain of her insecurities and plant a victory flag.
She grabbed his shoulder and yanked him back. His big, hard body fell half on top of her. God, did it feel good. More. Her hands threaded through his hair. “Gray.”
That was all it took to unleash him, just the sound of his name drenched in urgency and need. His mouth opened over hers, and he licked inside, his big hand clamping down on her hip and drawing her closer. He kissed with such fervor, she got swept away, the undertow so powerful it drowned her insecurities. She clutched his broad, powerful back. He feels so good.
His hand slid underneath her, caressing down to her bottom and then squeezing with such lust she literally writhed against him.
How had she ever thought he lacked passion? Holy smokes did he have it—and what a heady feeling knowing he had it for her.

HARDEST FALL (Dominion #2) by Juliette Cross-Dual Review and Excerpt

Amazon.com / Amazon.ca / B&N / KOBO / Chapters Indigo / Google Play

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date February 25, 2019

The tattooed demoness, Bone, doesn’t like anything except the magical weapons she makes. But she has hidden talents few know about. When I was brought to her near death, she used her Seraph song to manipulate flesh and bone to save me. But she wasn’t happy about it.

Now I must return the favor. Even though she refuses to take sides in the apocalypse, there’s one job she’s not willing to do for the demon prince Rook. If she doesn’t, her head will end up on a spike. Of course, there’s a good chance we’re all going to die anyway, but I will do anything to protect this fierce woman—and not just because she saved me.

So now we’re both off to kill a demon—or three—and possibly save the world.

••••••••••

Sandy’s REVIEW: HARDEST FALL is the second instalment in Juliette Cross’ post-apocalyptic, dystopian DOMINION fantasy, romance series focusing on the fight for control and power- the Great War- between Heaven and Hell. This is demoness/former seraph Bone, and demon Xander’s story line. HARDEST FALL can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story line is revealed where necessary. Bone was first introduced in book one-Darkest Heart.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Xander and Bone) HARDEST FALL follows the building relationship between demoness/former seraph Bone, and demon Xander, and the ongoing war between Heaven and H*ll. Bone, the former angel, has an affinity to metal, and as such, is the creator of some of the most specialized weapons in the war between Heaven and H*ll but as a former Seraph, Bone also has a gift of song that heals, as well as influences those she wants to control. When high demon Dommiel brings a broken and battered demon into her private lair, Bone is asked to help save the life of the man with whom she will fall in love. Enter Xander, aka Alexander Godfrey the once human rake of Victorian England, and a demon who sides with the Angels and the human resistance fighters known as the Twelvers. What ensues is the building romance and relationship between Xander and Bone, and the potential fall-out as Bone is commanded (or forced) to build a secret weapon for demon Prince Rook, a weapon whose power could destroy them all.

The relationship between Xander and Bone finds our hero falling for the demoness that calls to his heart. Bone refuses to take sides in a war between Heaven and H*ll but a war that pushes our heroine to side with the man she loves, and the people he will die to protect. The Sex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

HARDEST FALL is a story of good vs evil; Heaven vs H*ll; love vs hate. Bone and Xander struggle with sins of the past, sin that resulted in the demonic changes to our leading couple. The premise is inviting, complex and intense; the romance is seductive and spicy; the characters are sassy, spirited, playful and strong. Juliette Cross pulls the reader into a captivating, thought-provoking and thrilling ride between angels and demons, and the people they love.

Barb’s REVIEW: Hardest Fall by Juliette Cross is the 2nd book in her urban fantasy Dominion series. I am a big fan of Juliette Cross, as I have loved each and every book she writes.  Hardest Fall is no exception, as it was another fantastic book.  Once again, if you have not read Juliette Cross, and you like fantasy, paranormal, or romance, you are missing a gem of an author.

Bone, our heroine, whom we met in the previous book, was busy working on her unique ability to make powerful weapons, when Dommiel  (last book hero) rushes in bringing a severely injured man.  Bone takes one look at the man, and says she cannot help him, but Dommiel knows if anyone can save him, it is her; reluctantly, Bone agrees to try.

Xander, is a demon hunter, and when he awakes he thinks that Bone used her essence to heal him, and Xander does not want any Demon essence inside him. But what he doesn’t know is that Bone is much more powerful, she is a former seraph (a fallen angel), who walked away and takes no sides between humans and demons.  Bone can forge metal into the deadly powerful  weapons she creates and sells to the highest bidder.  When Xander overhears Bone talking to the Demon prince, Rook and his brother Simian about creating a special unique crown, he decides he needs to find out  more about the weapon and what they want to use it for.  This opens the door for Xander and Bone to work together in trying discovering what the evil Demon prince is planning.

What follows is a fascinating story, as we follow Bone and Xander, as well as the many members of the rebels determined to fight and defeat the demons.  It was great to spend time with Dommiel, Anya, George, Kat as they teamed up with Bone & Xander.  There are a number of times when they were in all in dangerous situations, which had us on the edge of our seats.   Most of all, I really enjoyed seeing both Xander and Bone begin to fall hard for each other; as their chemistry was off the wall, hotter than hell.  😉  As Xander pulls her into his world, Bone begins to change and learn to feel love with Xander, as well as knowing she needs to step up and take a side…helping the humans against the demons.

Hardest Fall was a heart stopping, pulse pounding, action packed, intense exciting thriller that I was unable to put the book down, but it was the love between Xander and Bone, as well as the wonderful secondary characters that made this story so good. I do not want to give spoilers, as you really need to read this series and anything by Juliette Cross.

Hardest Fall was fantastic story set in a post-apocalyptic world of Demons, Humans, and Angels, as well as pulling on our emotions throughout.    As always, thank you Juliette Cross for another sensational story which never fails to wow us.

The beat of the eighties anthem “Back in Black” pounded from within. Apparently, Axel was keeping the electricity up in this part of the city for the benefit of his club. Electricity was in sporadic use, like everything else. It always depended on the demon in charge of the territory.
“Looks like Axel’s band is playing a show tonight,” Xander said.
I exhaled a heavy sigh. “He never changes.”
That was the truth. If Axel had the power, he’d replay the 1980s over and over. He and his tribute band continued, even in the apocalypse, to keep those long-dead, big-haired, hard-rock bands alive.
He glanced down where, apparently, we were still holding hands, then brushed his thumb over my pulse. I pulled my hand roughly from his.
“Your heart rate is up, darling. Do I make you nervous?”
“Please.” I huffed and marched toward the club’s entrance. “You do not make me nervous.”
He followed in his swaggering, unhurried gait, and I could feel his eyes on my ass. “Well, you get mine up.”
I spun, standing in a pool of light that spilled from the one lit streetlamp on the entire darkened road.
“Really? Do I make you nervous?”
A definitive shake of his head. “Just anxious.”
“Anxious about what?”
“The possibilities.”
“What possibilities?”
“Between you and me.”
“There will be no you and me.”
Laughing, he practically crooned. “Ohhh, yes. There will be. There already is.”
Hands on my hips, eyes narrowed. “What makes you think so?”
“The way you look at me.”
“And how is that, exactly?”
“The same way I look at you.” He stepped forward, gaze roaming slowly down then back up. “Covetously.”
“You’re dreaming, hunter.”
“Of you…yes. In my bed.”
“You know?” I began matter-of-factly, tilting my head to the side. “Lust is nothing more than increased blood flow, sweat gland production, and release of the neurochemical dopamine, giving the body a natural high.” I gave him a self-satisfied smile. “Not unlike what drug users experience before their next fix.”
He inched closer. “Are you saying you’re addicted to me?”
“What? No.”
“Don’t worry, love.” He dipped his head lower, bringing our mouths within inches of each other. “I’ll give you a thorough Xander-sex-fest to take care of that itch.”
“You’re incorrigible.”
“As in persistent?”
“As in hopeless.” I spun and stormed toward the club, tossing over my shoulder. “Incurable!”
“Oh, there’s a cure, all right.” He followed, chuckling. “I’ll share it with you before long.”
Even as I pretended I didn’t hear that last bit, I shivered in hopeful anticipation.

About the book: Release Date February 26, 2019

Audrey Martinez is a veterinarian who has devoted her whole life to the care and protection of horses—even if doing so leaves her little time for meeting a man. Who would have thought that a strange case of criminal horseplay would lead her to falling deeply, wildly in love? If only the man who makes her heart race faster than a wild mustang would let his guard down, that is. . .

Caleb Harper is no ordinary cowboy. Sure, he wears his hat, boots, and jeans like a second skin, and displays an easygoing charm that comes from years of working on the ranch. But with his military background, and Army buddies at his side, he is tried-and-true Texas tough. Audrey knows she can trust a man like Caleb to help her save horses. But can Caleb trust himself to resist his attraction to Audrey—or will the sparks of their desire end up getting them burned?

•••••••••••

REVIEW: MY FAVORITE COWBOY is the third instalment in Donna Grant’s contemporary, adult HEART OF TEXAS erotic, romance series. This is rancher and former Green Beret Caleb Harper and veterinarian Audrey Martinez’ story line. MY FAVORITE COWBOY can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous instalments is revealed where necessary.

Told from several third person perspectives including Caleb and Audrey MY FAVORITE COWBOY follows the building relationship between rancher and former Green Beret Caleb Harper and veterinarian Audrey Martinez. Audrey Martinez struggles to identify the recent illness of several horses, unexplained and strange illnesses that point to a potential crime of poisoning. An attack against Audrey’s sister Maddy leaves our heroine vulnerable and alone forcing neighbour and rancher Caleb Harper, and his former army buddies to make it their responsibility to protect the woman with whom Caleb will fall in love. What ensues is the building relationship and romance between Caleb and Audrey, and the potential fall-out as Audrey is targeted by someone from her past, and Caleb is unable to accept the woman in his life.

Caleb Harper knows rejection first hand, and in this our hero is unable to let go of the past. Falling for Audrey Martinez meant falling for someone who could break his heart someone he was about to push out of his life. Audrey Martinez, along with her sister Audrey know love and loss first hand following the death of their mother, and the subsequent disappearance of their grieving father. Meeting Caleb Harper gave Audrey a chance at her own happily ever after, a happily ever after threatened by someone from her past.

The relationship between Audrey and Caleb is one of immediate attraction but Audrey is struggling to uncover the truth behind the recent series of equine illness, and the attack against her sister meant to send a message regarding Audrey’s investigation. Caleb refuses to leave Audrey to fend for herself but miscommunication and memories from the past begin to interfere in their growing love. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

There is a large ensemble cast of colorful secondary and supporting characters including Audrey’s sister Maddy; Clayton and Abby Harper (The Christmas Cowboy Hero #1), Naomi and Brice Harper (Cowboy, Cross my Heart #2), Brice and Caleb’s friends Jace Wilder, and Cooper Owens; and local sheriff Danny Oldman. The requisite evil has many faces.

MY FAVORITE COWBOY is a story of family, friendship, vengeance, suspense and love. The premise is intriguing; the romance is seductive; the characters are energetic, strong-willed and dynamic but both struggle with issues from the past. I did have a couple of problems accepting the reasons behind the attacks against Audrey, her sister, and the horses-motivations that seemingly come out of nowhere; as well as both family histories resolving in the same story line, resolutions that are too quick and convenient.

Damn.
It was the first thought that went through Caleb’s mind as he stared at the fine ass before him. He’d gotten enough of a look that morning to recognize the woman as the same one he’d spotted when they arrived at the auction house.
Audrey Martinez.
If he’d known what a fine specimen she was, Caleb would’ve made her acquaintance years ago.
He found himself smiling when he caught Audrey’s whispered retort to her sister in Spanish. Caleb glanced over at his brother and Clayton to see both of them star- ing at him.
That wiped the grin from his face. He shot them a con- fused look and mouthed, “What?”
Neither said a word as they returned their attention to the women.
Caleb adjusted his cowboy hat atop his head as David ambled up. The strain around the older man’s eyes had only intensified as the day progressed. He’d asked them not

to tell anyone they were trying to fix the cameras, which had seemed like an easy request.
Until some of the employees asked what Brice and Ca- leb were doing. They were quick to come up with an expla- nation, however.
Audrey pushed away from the stall and turned to them. Her gaze landed on Caleb first but quickly slid to Clayton. Caleb tried not to be annoyed that his brother-in-law had been granted a smile.
But he was irritated.
“Hello,” Audrey said as she walked up to Clayton and held out her hand. “I’m Audrey Martinez.”
Clayton clasped her hand briefly. “I’ve heard a lot about you, Ms. Martinez. I’m Clayton East.”
“Please, call me Audrey.” Then large, dark eyes wid- ened. “East? As in the East Ranch?”
David chuckled and slapped Clayton on the back. “The very one. I’ve sold a lot of horses for both Clayton and his father.”
“And we’ve bought a lot of them from you,” Clayton added with a grin. He then motioned to Brice and Caleb. “These are my brothers-in-law, Brice and Caleb Harper.”
Audrey’s gaze moved to Brice, who tipped his hat to her. “Ma’am.”
Caleb waited until her eyes were on him before he reached up and touched the edge of his hat. “Nice to meet you.”
He found himself awestruck, though he couldn’t put a finger on why. He drank in her golden-brown skin, dark eyes, and black hair that denoted Audrey’s Spanish heri- tage.
Her oval face was covered in a light sheen of sweat that

gave it a beautiful glow. He wanted to wipe his thumb over her wide, full lips before he kissed her.
Because he was going to kiss her.
Caleb had never walked away from someone he was attracted to, and he certainly wasn’t about to start now. Audrey didn’t just have a stunning face, she also had the hourglass figure that always brought him to his knees.
Audrey licked her lips and glanced away. Caleb nearly groaned at the sight of her pink tongue. Then he remem- bered that they weren’t alone. And they were dealing with a very serious situation.
But once everything was in hand, he was going to pur- sue Audrey.

Description:
Although beautiful young widow Phoebe, Lady Clare, has never met West Ravenel, she knows one thing for certain: he’s a mean, rotten bully. Back in boarding school, he made her late husband’s life a misery, and she’ll never forgive him for it. But when Phoebe attends a family wedding, she encounters a dashing and impossibly charming stranger who sends a fire-and-ice jolt of attraction through her. And then he introduces himself…as none other than West Ravenel.

West is a man with a tarnished past. No apologies, no excuses. However, from the moment he meets Phoebe, West is consumed by irresistible desire…not to mention the bitter awareness that a woman like her is far out of his reach. What West doesn’t bargain on is that Phoebe is no straitlaced aristocratic lady. She’s the daughter of a strong-willed wallflower who long ago eloped with Sebastian, Lord St. Vincent—the most devilishly wicked rake in England.

Before long, Phoebe sets out to seduce the man who has awakened her fiery nature and shown her unimaginable pleasure. Will their overwhelming passion be enough to overcome the obstacles of the past?

Only the devil’s daughter knows…

Review:

Devil’s Daughter by Lisa Kleypas is the 5th book in her The Ravenels series. I have not read the previous 4 books in this series, but this book did read well as a standalone.  However, this is my first book by Lisa Kleypas, and I absolutely adored Devil’s Daughter.  I will be going back to read the earlier books, and start reading more of Ms. Kleypas.

We meet Phoebe (Lady Clare), our heroine, at the start, as she prepares to go with her entire family to the Ravenel estate to attend a wedding, she does not look forward to meeting West Ravenel. Phoebe remembers all too well the stories about West that he is a bully, having been told so by her now deceased husband, Henry.  She is determined to avoid him at all costs.  It has been a few years since, Henry died, and with two young sons, Phoebe knows she needs to consider marrying again, and looks to her husband’s cousin (Edward), who helps run the estate.  But Sebastian, her father, insists that Edward is not worthy of her, and he is concerned about her land, and how it is fallen on hard times.

West Ravenel, our hero, lives at home at his family’s estate, and takes an active interest in the land.  West has led a tarnished reckless life, with his reputation following him.  He seems settled helping his brother run the estate, but feels he can never become involved in any permanent relationship with a woman, especially since he cannot trust himself.  But then he meets the beautiful Phoebe. When Phoebe meets a handsome stranger, who she immediately feels that attraction; but to her shock, she learn he is the infamous West Ravenel.

At dinner, she is forced to sit next to West, and despite his attempt to find another spot, since he sees her discomfort, Phoebe tells him to sit and not make a fuss.  In a short time, she will learn that he is not the boy who tortured her husband years before, and is an intelligent, kind man who will go out of his way to help her look at her finances and teach her how to fix her land.  He warns her about the person running the land for her, and she needs to have someone else look at the records.

Slowly, Phoebe begins to become closer to West, and soon they are both falling hard for each other.  The chemistry between them was sparkling hot; but Phoebe also sees how West thinks little of himself, feeling unworthy of someone like her.

What follows is a wonderful sweet story, as Phoebe after watching West with her two sons, and how sweet and caring he is with her, that he is the man for her.  She also knows that despite his feelings for her, he is determined to for her to find a man worthy of her.  When West comes to visit her estate, at her request, to help look over the finances, and make recommendations to fix her lands, they both act on their lustful feelings.  Phoebe will need to find a way to convince West that he is worthy of her.  But will she be able to get through to West?

This is my first novel by Lisa Kleypas, as I do not read a lot of historical romances, though I do read a few favorites.  I have to say I loved her writing.  So many times when reading this story, I broke into a smile at some of the humorous banter between West and Phoebe, as well as the fun West had with the two boys.

Devil’s Daughter was a wonderful heartwarming story, a fantastic couple, and fabulous secondary characters.  I loved both Phoebe and West. I loved how Sebastian stepped up to help them.  I will be reading more of Lisa Kleypas going forward.  I suggest you read this book, and Lisa Kleypas.

LAW AND ORDER.
For as long as Samantha can remember, Hunter—a man as strong as steel, with a heart of gold—has been her hero. It came as no surprise to Samantha when she found out that the ranch-hardened cowboy who always protected her from bullies went on to become the town’s sheriff. What does surprise her is how incredibly hot he still is. And how much she still wants him…

PRIDE AND PASSION

And, lo and behold, Hunter still has feelings for Samantha. The long-smoldering heat of their innocent flirtation has grown into a full-raging fire. But when tragedy strikes, and their small-town community is shattered, Hunter vows to do everything he can to keep his childhood sweetheart safe. But can Samantha trust that Hunter has her best interests at heart…and that, after all these years, his love is true?

•••••••••

REVIEW: ONE TOUGH COWBOY is the first instalment in the contemporary, adult, erotic, romantic suspense series MOVING VIOLATIONS co-authored by Lora Leigh and Veronica Chadwick. This is Deerhaven, California Sheriff Hunter Steele, and Detroit police officer Samantha Ryder’s story line.

NOTE: ONE TOUGH COWBOY contains scenes of sexual violence that may be triggers for more sensitive readers.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Samantha and Hunter) ONE TOUGH COWBOY follows the building relationship between Deerhaven, California Sheriff Hunter Steele, and Detroit police officer Samantha Ryder. Samantha Ryder left Deerhaven close to ten years earlier but never expected to come back to bury her beloved aunt Dottie, a woman who’s death mystifies our story line heroine. Sheriff Hunter Steele suspects the three recent deaths in Deerhaven are connected, although each death has been ruled accidental or by natural causes. Reconnecting with Samantha Ryder stirs something deep within our story line hero, something Hunter is hoping to pursue, as he tries to convince Samantha to move back to town. As Samantha and Hunter begin to dig a little deeper into the strange happenings and mysterious deaths of three elderly but tight-knit friends, our couple will be targeted for what they know, and who they are. What ensues is the rekindling friendship and building relationship between Sam and Hunter, and the potential fall-out as our couple discover the truth about what has been happening in Deerhaven, California.

Samantha Ryder has a successful career in the Detroit Police Department but sins from the past followed our heroine to Deerhaven California, sins that demand retribution and vengeance in more ways than one. Hunter Steele has been burned in the past but rekindling his friendship with Samantha meant the possibility of a happily ever after –once the danger in town has been put to rest.

The relationship between Sam and Hunter is one of mutual attraction; a palpable sexual energy that does not go unnoticed by the people of Deerhaven, some of the people who are willing to destroy our story line couple. The $ex scenes are numerous, intimate, erotic and intense but I dislike the use of a certain four-letter word…and $ex while on stake-out seems a little bit risky under the circumstances 😉

The world building focuses on the small town of Deerhaven California: the people, the gossip, the power and control. We are introduced to several law –enforcement types including a few CHiP officers, and Jacob Donovan, a man who may or may not be former Special Forces; and the local politicians who are desperate to keep secret their illegal activities.

ONE TOUGH COWBOY is a story of betrayal, greed, power and control. There are a few disconnected plot-points and inconsistencies that need to be addressed- I doubt we will see anything resolved in forthcoming story lines; and the cowboy premise is limited. The premise is entertaining; the romance is passionate; the characters are charismatic and energetic.

He hadn’t changed much. He seemed bigger, his shoulders broader. His signature thick, black hair was cut in a shorter style. As he got closer, Samantha noticed his face had changed quite a bit. Any boyish softness he’d once had was all gone and had been replaced with hard planes and angles, except for his full, well-defined lips. There were fine laugh lines fanning out from the corners of his steel gray eyes. Those eyes were more intense, hard. The easy laughter that lit them when he was younger seemed to be gone.
“Ms. Bell.” He nodded in greeting to the diminutive lady.
“Good of you to come by, Sheriff. Little Samantha is handlin’ all this by herself.” She winked and patted his arm. “She could use a little help, I’m thinkin’.”
Samantha wanted to walk away. She also wanted to throw her arms around Hunter and hold on for dear life. Not just because he still made her heart pound, but because he was a part of her life she thought she’d lost. She wanted to hold on to a stable, warm part of her past where she was happy and safe. Seeing him again brought those memories and emotions all rushing back. “Hey, Sam.” The smooth, deep bass of his voice was
quiet and soothing.
“Hey, Hunter.” His name left her lips with more com- posure than she felt.
“I’m sorry I couldn’t make it to the funeral, but I wanted to come by to extend my condolences, and to see how you’re doin’.” He stepped closer and rubbed her bare

upper arm. “You holdin’ up okay?” His hand, a bit rough and callused from real work, was warm, reassuring.
She crossed her arms over her chest. “I’m okay, Hunter, thank you.” She cleared her throat. “Everyone brought food. The dining room table is overflowing. Help yourself.”
He followed her through the living room to the din- ing room. She turned and almost jumped back. He was standing inches away, looking down at her. His brows furrowed, his gaze sharply assessing her. He smelled in- credible, and he stood so close she could feel the heat from his body.
She opened her mouth to say something but forgot what she wanted to say. She must look completely ignorant gaping up at him like that.
“Are you sure you’re all right?” Sympathy and con- cern shadowed his expression, softening the harsher lines of his face.
“It’s been a long day. I’m fine, really.” She was a bas- ket case, and not just because of her aunt’s death.
Hunter gave her a gentle smile and pulled out a chair. “No doubt. Sit and talk to me for a while. I haven’t seen you in what? Ten years?”
Samantha welcomed the chance to get off her feet and get away from the crowd for a bit. “Yeah, about ten years, I think.”
He pulled out the chair beside her, turned it toward her, and sat, staring at her solemnly. “I’m real sorry about Dottie.”
“Me too.” She looked into his eyes, assessing whether she could or should continue. “I really didn’t get enough time with her. I’ll always regret that.”

20 Lora Leigh and Veronica Chadwick
Hunter shook his head. “Sam, you know Dottie thought the world of you. She knew you loved her and she loved you.”
Had she? Samantha couldn’t help but question the ob- servation. School, her career, and far too many emo- tions had seemed to always get in the way of returning to Deerhaven.
“Yes, I know, but I look around at these people and think of how some of them probably knew her even better than I did, her own niece.” Samantha frowned and gestured toward a blue-haired woman sitting on the couch sobbing, clutching another woman’s hand. “Mrs. Holt is devastated.”
She obviously had not talked to her aunt on the phone enough either, because Dottie had never mentioned the other woman.
A small smile touched Hunter’s far-too-sensual lips as he lowered his head and leaned closer. “Sam, Irene Holt never even met Dottie. She attends any and all fu- nerals and wails and carries on like that at every one of ’em.” Amusement touching his gaze.
Samantha looked at him incredulously until he raised his hand and said, “Hand to God. Every one of ’em.”
“Wow.” No wonder her aunt Dottie had never men- tioned the other woman.
“Yep.” Hunter’s smile broadened. “As for the rest of them, they’re just being neighborly or nosy. Most of ’em still remember your family and you. You were pretty hard to forget . . . Pixie Pest.” His brows lifted playfully. Teasingly.
Samantha narrowed her eyes. “Ugh. That nickname.
I don’t know which is worse, that or Sami Jo.”

She protested it. Just as she always had. That flare of warmth she felt whenever it passed his lips was still there, though.
“You earned it.”
“Psh, whatever.” She’d actually worked at it at the time.
Hunter chuckled and she nearly sighed. Lord, she’d missed his laugh, his smile, even the way he’d tease her. She’d missed him.
“Aw, you know I was always fond of you, Pixie. You were a great kid, even if you were a pest that was con- stantly following me around and giving my girlfriends hell.”
She had been such a tomboy with wild, young girl fantasies of being swept off her feet by the cutest boy in Deerhaven, or the whole wide world, for that matter. He’d called her his Pixie Pest whenever he’d seen her and tugged at her long, tangled hair.
“I’m not a kid anymore.” She held his gaze and couldn’t imagine how she’d gotten so bold.
Hunter’s gaze traveled over her body, a single black brow arching slowly in acknowledgment. “I’ve noticed. I’m trying really hard to remember what a pain in the ass you used to be.”
Samantha lifted a brow. “I can still be a pain in the ass.”
“I bet you can.” The look in his eyes was making her feel way too hot, way too needy.
She didn’t want to go there. Not now. After Tom No- vak, the very last thing she needed was another relation- ship. Besides all that, she was here to get answers, not to get laid.
