Danger is closing in.
Kerrigan Whitaker has spent the past two years reinventing herself into the strong, independent woman she’s always wanted to be, and running her first ultra marathon is the chance to prove to herself and everyone else how far she’s come. Her failed marriage made her wary of relationships, so she’s not ready to get involved with anyone else. Not even the man she secretly fantasizes about—who also happens to be her brother’s best friend. But when people she works closely with are murdered, she goes to the only place she feels safe—Crimson Point, and the man who tempts her like no other.
And the killer is closer than they realize.
Air National Guard Pararescueman Travis Masterson loves his career and has dedicated his life to saving and protecting others. There’s only one thing missing. Kerrigan—but she’s determined to keep walls up between them. He understands why she’s gun shy, but he can’t let her go. Not when every instinct is screaming that she’s it for him. After a shocking attack leaves her in the crosshairs of a cold-blooded killer, Travis is the only one who can save her. With her life in his hands, he’ll risk it all to stop the killer and protect the woman he can’t live without.

REVIEW:FALLING HARD is the first instalment in Kaylea Cross’ contemporary, adult CRIMSON POINT PROTECTORS romantic suspense series, a spin off from the author’s Crimson Point series. This is HR rep Kerrigan Whitaker, and Air National Guard Pararescueman Travis Masterson’s story line. You do not have to have read the Crimson Point series although several characters cross over for cohesion and familiarity.
Told from several third person perspectives FALLING HARD follows several interconnecting paths including the search and rescue in Yemen of Kerrigan Whitaker’s brother Brandon; the building relationship between Travis and Kerrigan, and the potential fall-out in the wake of a controversial firing, as the members of the legal firm for which Kerrigan works are killed, one victim at a time. During the team’s recent mission to Yemen, Brandon Whitaker had been captured and tortured, tortured for information he knew nothing about. Rescued and recovering at his sister’s home Brandon struggles to move forward, eventually seeking solace with his best friend and teammate Travis in Crimson Point. Travis Masterson has fallen in love with his best friend’s sister Kerrigan, a forbidden relationship in the face of friendship and respect but not all is well at the law firm for which Kerrigan works, a firm that is currently embroiled in a potential breach of national security. What ensues is the building romance and relationship between Travis and Kerrigan, and the fall-out as Kerrigan is targeted for perceived betrayal.
Kerrigan Whitaker struggles with issues of trust since the dense of her marriage to an emotionally abusive man. Kerrigan battles between head and heart with her attraction to brother’s best friend Travis, a man who stirs something deep within our story line heroine but Kerrigan has uncovered a possible connection to her brother’s capture, a connection that may have placed our heroine and her brother in the direct line of fire. Travis Masterson knows that Kerrigan Whitaker is the woman that controls his heart but our hero needs to tread carefully, biding his time fearing losing our heroine in the process.
The relationship between Travis and Kerrigan is a best friend’s sister relationship wherein Travis has fallen for our story line heroine. Threats against Kerrigan pull Travis in as guardian and protector but Travis is unable to be in all places at all times. Kerrigan’s need for independence and respect finds our heroine facing off against her family, her brother, and the man with whom she will fall in love. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top sexually graphic language and text.
We are introduced to Kerrigan’s brother Brandon, and her co-workers Beth, Carl and Wayne; psychologist Mia Ramos, and pararescueman Asher “Groz” Grozinski. The requisite evil has many faces.
FALLING HARD is a story of family and friendships, betrayal and vengeance, corruption and death. The fast paced premise is intriguing, captivating and engaging ; the characters are energetic and dynamic ; the romance is seductive and intense.
