ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date January 31, 2023

Hades, the wickedly dark god-king of the Underworld, needs a queen.

And he’s chosen Persephone.

All Persephone has ever desired is control of her own life, and someone noticing her once in a while. Kept in her mother’s shadow, and overlooked by the entirety of Olympus, her dream seems impossible… and now she’s doomed to wed a dull god of her mother’s choosing…

Until she crosses paths with a handsome, dark warrior who rouses wildfire heat in her veins—a male whose immense power is unmistakable, and who matches the fearful tales whispered in Olympus—stories of a cruel, heartless king who rules his realm of death with an iron fist.

When Hades abducts her and imprisons her in the depths of the Underworld, a dormant part of her awakens. And as she slowly discovers the truth about him, Persephone isn’t sure whether the snarling, dark beast of a king is her doom… or her saviour… but she knows one thing…

She will embrace the fire he awakens in her with every heated glance, and every vicious growl.

And use it to tame him and forge her dreams into reality.

Because, Persephone, the quiet, gentle goddess of nature, desires a king.

And nothing will stop her from claiming his black heart.

REVIEW: QUEEN OF THE UNDERWORLD is the prequel story line in Felicity Heaton’s GUARDIANS OF HADES paranormal/fantasy romance series based in Greek Mythology. This is Hades, god of the Underworld, and Persephone’s story line.

Told from third person perspective QUEEN OF THE UNDERWORLD is the retelling of Hades, god of the Underworld, and Persephone’s love story. Hades has watched from afar as his brothers, Zeus and Poseidon, had fallen in love and taken a mate. Hades was jealous; angered that he was tricked into ruling the Underworld where the madness and darkness had taken control. Exiting a portal onto Olympus, Hades would come face to face with Persephone, the goddess with whom he would fall in love. With ‘permission’ from Zeus, Hades would claim Persephone as his Queen but all was not well, and Persephone’s mother Demeter was about to reign down H*ll on Earth. As Hades and Persephone’s relationship blossomed into something more, there would be those in the Underworld and Olympus who hoped to destroy the woman Hade’s loved.

QUEEN OF THE UNDERWORLD is an enemies to lovers, forced proximity romance; a love affair between lightness and dark, good and evil, life and death, winter and summer. The relationship between Hades and Persephone is tempestuous at best but Persephone quickly sees the darkness, the pain and the sorrow, buried just below the surface of the man with whom she will fall in love. The premise is entertaining and captivating-a narrative paraphrasing the Greek love story comparable to the original; the romance is fated and seductive; the characters are magical and enthralling.

REVIEW: HADES is the ninth instalment in Felicity Heaton’s contemporary, adult GUARDIANS OF HADES paranormal/fantasy romance, mythology series, and the first in the author’s companion Greek Gods and Goddesses series. HADES focuses on an attack against Hades and Persephone, an attack meant to free several daemons, and bad guys from Tartarus, H*ll’s prison for supernatural prisoners. HADES is an ensemble story line featuring most of the previous story line couples, as well as several of the Greek Gods and Goddesses of Olympus.

WARNING: Due to the nature of the story line premise including graphic violence, there may be triggers for more sensitive readers.

NOTE: The Guardians of Hades series is Felicity Heaton’s interpretation of, and does not follow, the actual Greek mythological family tree or events.

Told from third person perspective HADES focuses on the abduction of Hade’s wife Persephone, an abduction meant to trap the god-king of H*ll. Hades, fearing for Persephone’s life, ventures in search of his wife, a search that will ultimately involve his children, his brothers Zeus and Poseidon, several gods and goddesses of Olympus, and his beloved Cerberus.

HADES is an action packed story of power and control, betrayal and vengeance, family, friendships, relationships and love. Felicity Heaton pulls the reader into the depths of the Underworld as Hades struggles to free his wife from a desperate soul. The premise is entertaining and engaging-the first half is slow building; the second half is fast paced and intense; the romance is seductive; the characters are numerous, familiar, powerful and strong.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date June 14, 2022.

An important undercover mission for her coven could get Lilian killed. Targeting one powerful vampire is dangerous enough, but when she’s left with his lethally seductive brother, Night, the stakes have never felt higher.

Night Van der Garde is in no mood to visit his uptight eldest brother, so when he finds Bastian flying out of his mansion door, the evening is looking up… until Bastian orders him to spend the week looking after a human—a bewitching female who rouses a fierce hunger that has him treading the fine line between duty and desire.

When a new threat to his bloodline emerges and secrets about Lilian are revealed, will Night choose to follow his heart or listen to the ghosts of his dark past?

REVIEW:BEWITCHED BY A VAMPIRE is the twenty-first instalment in Felicity Heaton’s contemporary, adult ETERNAL MATES paranormal/fantasy romance series. This is vampire Night Van de Garde, and witch Lilian’s story line. BEWITCHED BY A VAMPIRE can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary.

NOTE: Several characters (Payne & Elissa, Antoine & Sera, Snow & Aurora )cross over from the author’s LONDON VAMPIRE SERIES formerly the VAMPIRE EROTIC THEATRE series. Night Van de Garde is Bastian and Grave’s (Haunted by the King of Death 11) brother.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Night and Lilian) BEWITCHED BY A VAMPIRE follows witch Lilian as she is tasked with taking down the Van de Garde brothers. A call from his brother Bastian finds Night ‘overseeing’ his brother’s household of human servants and familiars but for Lilian, the one female whom his brother had yet to lay claim, has caught the attention of our story line hero. A demon attack forces Night and Lilian on the run together, an alliance that threatens Night’s life and the lives of the people he loves but Night’s partnership with Lilian is a ruse, a ruse meant to imprison our story line hero. Revenge takes aim, and our couple must face betrayal and power from the unlikeliest of sources. What ensues is the building relationship between Lilian and Night, and the fall-out as Lilian’s true self is revealed, and Night has been her target all along.

The relationship between Night and Lilian is predicated upon a series of lies. Lilian is a witch, and is currently in the process of ferreting information about the Van de Garde brothers. The coven has targeted Bastian and Night but the pull between Night and Lilian is enhanced when a blood exchange creates a bond that cannot be unbroken. The appearance of the London Vampire clan reveals secrets and lies, betrayals and truths such that the true evil is someone very close. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top sexually graphic language and text.

There is a large ensemble cast of colorful, energetic and supernatural secondary and supporting characters including all of those previously mentioned. The return of the London Vampires aka Vampire Erotic Theatre is a welcome surprise.

BEWITCHED BY A VAMPIRE is a narrative story of power and control, betrayal and vengeance, secrets and lies, forgiveness and love. The character driven, action packed premise is captivating and engaging; the romance is seductive; the characters are familiar, energetic, and dynamic.

REVIEW:CRAVED BY A WOLF is the twentieth instalment in Felicity Heaton’s contemporary, adult ETERNAL MATES paranormal/fantasy romance series. This is Scottish wolf shifter / Pack alpha Grant MacKinnon, and witch Hella’s story line. CRAVED BY A WOLF can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary.

Told from dual third person perspective (Grant and Hella) CRAVED BY A WOLF follows two hundred fifty seven year old Scottish wolf shifter/ Pack alpha Grant McKinnon as he is cursed to find his fated mate, a mate he is supposed to hand over to a powerful witch but meeting Hella gives Grant a pause for the future, having difficulty distinguishing between fate and the curse, fate that proved to be stronger than he could have ever imagined. What ensues is the acrimonious relationship between Grant and Hella, and the potential fall-out as Hella is willing to sacrifice herself to save the man/wolf with whom she is falling in love.

Hella is a witch who has caught the attention of the king of the nymphs, and as such has placed herself and Grant in the direct line of fire. Hella refuses to be owned; to be anyone’s mate, fated or otherwise, and in this, Hella struggles with Grant’s need to claim Hella as his own. Unable to understand Grant’s almost territorial claim, Hella is constantly using magic to control and push our hero out of her life.

The relationship between Hella and Grant begins as part of a witch’s curse. Grant is unable to trust his attraction and need for our story line heroine, believing the curse is causing all of his problems but Hella’s reactions and actions to Grant’s ongoing desire begin to trigger a darkness from the past, a darkness Grant continues to battle every time Hella uses magic to lock down and imprison the man with whom she will fall in love. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

We are introduced to Ethyrian, King of the nymphs; Unseelie prince Oberon, as well as Hella’s friend Fenix; Grant’s friend and shifter Gregor, and powerful witch Godiva.

CRAVED BY A WOLF is a story of betrayal and vengeance, power and control, magic and manipulation, love and acceptance. The fast paced premise is entertaining and action packed; the characters are impassioned, powerful and magical; the romance is fated but struggles in the face of misunderstanding, miscommunication, magical interference and Hella’s need to restrain Grant, a restraint that often bordered on abusive and controlling.

Life was pretty sweet.
Hella ambled along the lakeshore, the heels of her black knee-high boots clicking on the pale golden flagstones that formed the broad promenade and her gaze on the stunningly blue water to her right as it twinkled in the artificial sunlight. She sipped her iced coffee, a bounce in her step, her whole body feeling lighter—brighter—for finally having swept off the oh-so-clingy nymph.
Ethyrian had been fun for a while. Charming. Rich. Handsome—no—beautiful. Hella wasn’t sure a man should be beautiful, but that was nymphs for you. They weren’t gorgeous like incubi, who all looked as if they had just stepped out of Hollywood and easily gave Brad Pitt and Ryan Reynolds a run for their money. No. Nymphs crossed the line into beautiful, every single one of them looking for all the world as if they had just stepped out of the wood elf kingdom in Lord of the Rings.
Man, she could really go for some Legolas right now.
She scowled, pushed that thought aside, and stopped her roaming gaze before she could single out any eligible males in the crowded promenade. She wasn’t going to backslide. This was going to be her year. One devoted to exploring everything the fae town she lived in had to offer.
Which was a lot.
The damned nymph popped back into her head.
Hella booted him back out of it.
She had a policy when it came to her bedfellows. She didn’t do commitment. She didn’t do clingy. She most definitely didn’t do men who cried like babies and begged her to take them back.
Hella had flatly told him no and goodbye and had kicked him to the curb.
For a man who had been desperate to stay with her, he certainly hadn’t been calling all hours of the day or making wild attempts to change her mind. Which was strange.
It might have been a bit disappointing if it hadn’t allowed her the space and freedom to expand her horizons.
Hella flashed a saucy wink at a pair of panther shifters loitering outside one of the taverns to her left that lined the broad pavement, facing the huge lake. The younger of the two took the bait, his smile nothing short of salacious as he gave her a sexy, slow once-over, raking his golden eyes from her hair to her boots and back again. Currently, she was working her way through all the eligible males in the fae town.
She glanced at the buildings that encircled the lake, crammed into the cavern that sat beneath a mountain, and realised that was a lot of men. Fenix, her incubus best-bud, was going to be kept in tonics and pills for a long time thanks to her current foray into sexually exploring every possible species—bar those classified as demon breeds like incubi—to see what suited her tastes best.
She hadn’t tried panther yet.
She twirled a strand of her wavy blue hair around her fingers and sipped on her drink, making sure he got a good eyeful of the way she wrapped her glossy lips around the straw.
His low growl sent a thrill down her spine as he stepped towards her. His friend put a halt to everything by grabbing his arm and tugging him back, and saying something that had the handsome shifter frowning at him. Maybe they were going to fight over her. Two females stepped out of the tavern holding four tankards and made a beeline for the males. Hella shrugged. Or maybe not.
She turned her cheek to them, no longer interested in what either male had to offer. She also didn’t do cheats. Anyone who warmed her bed for a night or two needed to be unattached.
The last thing she needed was angry females banging down her door or spreading malicious talk about her. It was bad for business.
No one wanted potions, ointments or spells from witches liable to screw others over. People tended not to separate a witch’s personal life from their business practice. If she was known to cheat when it came to pursuing pleasure, she couldn’t be trusted to not cheat when it came to the wares she sold. Plenty of witches had fallen foul of that and had been driven out of business, or worse, out of the fae town in which they lived.
Hella took in the elegant pastel pink, cream and dove-grey four-storey buildings that lined the promenade, their lead roofs absorbing the bright sunlight that bathed their façades. They resembled the buildings in Geneva, the nearest mortal town, a classic European air about them. The ones that acted as hotels for visiting immortals had French doors and balconies for each room rather than windows, offering a view of the lake to everyone who stayed there. Others were taverns with apartments above them, and some were shops and other businesses.
She drifted towards the large windows that lined the lowest floors of a row of stores, admiring the colourful glass bottles in the perfume emporium and the latest fashions displayed in the next building. Her gaze dropped to her black dress. Witches had to wear black dresses. It was tradition. No one wanted to buy magical goods from a woman in a pink dress or linen slacks and a camisole. A witch had to look the part.
Hella had pushed the limits of what was acceptable, testing out several dresses in her years to see how far she could go without turning off her clients and driving them elsewhere. Rather than the drab ankle-length dress many witches wore—mainly those fresh from the coven—she chose to wear knee-length empire-line dresses or summer dresses that cinched in at the waist and were stitched with faint violet stars. She even wore corseted dresses that showed a little more of her wares than was appropriate according to most circles in witch society.
Today, she had picked her favourite strapless empire-line dress, one that had a sheer black layer over the silky underlayer. That top layer was folded into pleats around her breasts, and beneath them there was a delicate band of ribbon embroidered with silver swirls and dots.
She always felt good in this dress. It drew the eye to her best assets.
She also didn’t do ankle boots. She pushed the boundaries there too, choosing knee-high leather boots that laced up the front and had a comfortable three-inch block heel.
She eyed a pretty amethyst brooch on one of the dresses in the window display and drifted towards it, her gaze transfixed on it as the polished stone and gold filigree that surrounded it glittered in the warm light. If she couldn’t wear colours other than black, maybe she could accessorise. She had never tried wearing jewellery before. Surely that wouldn’t turn her clients off?
“Want it?” A male voice rolled over her and she tensed, her head whipping to her right. Disappointment flooded her when she found herself face to face with a squat, ageing man who was wearing half a tankard of ale down the front of his leather jerkin. He slurred, “I’ll buy it for you.”
In exchange for what?
Hella really didn’t want to know the answer to that question, so she politely smiled and moved away, heading at speed for the lake and not slowing until she was sure she was alone again.
She dumped her empty drink in the nearest bin and surveyed the lake, losing herself in it as the water sparkled and its beauty hit her all over again. She was sure she would never grow tired of this view. The elegant buildings hugged the shore as far as the eye could see, ending only at the far side of the manmade lake where a slice of bright green replaced them. A dense forest rose up beyond the park, clinging to the rugged slope. Above the trees, the rocky roof of the cavern curled towards her.
Hella had helped with the spell that turned the ceiling of the cavern into a sky for the most part. Originally, it had channelled whatever weather was happening above the mountain they were under. The town hadn’t particularly been happy when they had discovered that weather included snow and rain too, so on days when it was inclement topside, the spell defaulted to a fake blue sky and sunshine.
Which had led to the town demanding they do a new spell that made the days always sunny and warm, and the nights always clear and moonlit and blanketed with stars.
She tipped her head back and bathed in the warmth of the sunlight, and was humming to herself before she realised what she was doing. What could she put on the menu tonight? Maybe she could find some eligible bachelor panthers and convince them to warm her bed. If she wandered south, into the network of alleyways that connected the broader avenues in the town, she would eventually end up in the area of the cavern where the townhouses and apartment buildings gave way to sprawling walled compounds. The shifters liked their space and had established themselves quickly in the town, grabbing a lot of the vacant land for themselves. One of the compounds belonged to panthers. The one next to it belonged to tigers.
The two breeds were always fighting like cats and… cats.
Still, if she couldn’t find a panther to sample, she could always bag herself a tiger. They were excellent lovers, incredibly acrobatic. She had learned a few things from the tigers she had bedded over the years.
She turned towards the next alley, feeling more positive about the evening ahead of her as she recalled her past exploits.
Her step slowed as she experienced a sudden sensation that something had shifted. Her mood? The air? She wasn’t sure.
Whatever it was, it felt off.
Wrong.
She slowly took in her surroundings, that feeling growing at an alarming rate. The promenade was busy, with a lot of groups hanging out in front of stores or beside the lake. Other groups were moving, chatting animatedly to each other, and there were some solo people like her too. Some of those males and females meandered as she was, enjoying the warm sunshine, while others moved with purpose through the crowd, heading somewhere. She scanned them all, seeking the source of the sensation building inside her, and her fingertips tingled as her magic rose to the fore.
Hella looked over her shoulder in the direction she had come.
And spotted them.
A dozen burly, drop-dead-gorgeous men heading her way.
Hella hitched her skirts with her left hand, aware this was going to come down to a chase, and possibly a fight.
Because apparently, nymph kings didn’t take no for an answer after all.
She summoned a protective spell and a speed spell in her mind, chanting the incantations as quickly as she could manage, and twisted back in the direction she had been heading.
And slammed straight into a broad, impressively cut bare chest.
Hella tilted her head back, her gaze roaming up the thick slabs of his pectorals to a strong but elegant neck, the spells forgotten as her stomach dropped.
The beautiful blond’s lips quirked into a satisfied half-smile, the pointed tips of his ears showing as the breeze caught his long hair and shifted it across his shoulders, and his blue eyes piercing her.
Hello, Legolas.
She might have purred if it wasn’t for one small fact.
He was a nymph.
His stunning eyes narrowed and his hand shot forwards, his grip bruising and unyielding as it closed around her arm, fingers pressing deep enough that pain shot up to her shoulder and down to her hand.
Life suddenly didn’t look as sweet.
Panic seized her as firmly as his large hand as she heard the other nymphs closing in and the air hummed with familiar power. He was preparing to teleport. She swiftly raised her left knee, aiming for the sweet spot between his green leather clad legs as she quickly worked through the incantations.
He released her and blocked her leg.
And slammed a cold metal cuff around her right wrist with the other.
The power that had been surging through her disappeared, the incantation in her head nothing but empty words as the bespelled shackles did their work, severing the connection between her and her magic.
Hella grunted as two more nymphs grabbed her from behind, slamming her forwards into the larger male. She elbowed one in his stomach, hard enough that he loosed a very satisfying grunt and stumbled back a step. She was quick to seize the small amount of space she had gained, leaning away from the one who was trying to shackle her and cocking her fist. Another of the nymph’s stopped her before she could punch him, tightly gripping her arm and holding her back.
The male with the shackles pulled her arm free of his grip and yanked it towards him, hard enough that pain shot through her shoulder as she fell against him. He shoved her back a few inches and she could only glare at him as he fastened the other cuff around her free wrist, his satisfied smirk growing wider, and teleported with her.
But in the breath between the fae town and an unfamiliar room, a sound rang in her ears, one that sent a chill skittering down her spine and spread strange warmth through her veins.
A beast howled in rage.

REVIEW:INFLAMED BY AN INCUBUS is the nineteenth instalment in Felicity Heaton’s adult ETERNAL MATES paranormal/fantasy romance series. This is phoenix shifter Aderyn aka Evelyn, and incubus Fenix’s story line. INFLAMED BY THE INCUBUS can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous instalments is revealed where necessary but for backstory and cohesion, I recommend reading the series in order as it pertains to the organization known as Archangel, a group of human hunters whose prime directive is to torture and destroy anything immortal.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Evelyn and Fenix) INFLAMED BY AN INCUBUS follows the search and rescue of Fenix’s fated mate Aderyn, now known as Evelyn. Years earlier, Aderyn killed the mate of a powerful mage, and our couple were cursed to never find one another, and if they did, to never fall in love lest Aderyn dies, only to rise and never remember our story line hero. Fast forward to present day wherein Fenix finds his mate is working for the group known as Archangel, a group of humans who capture, torture and kill anyone and anything they deem supernatural. Following his mate, Fenix discovers that Evelyn has been partnered with someone who is not quite human, a man who is determined to use our heroine for another purpose. With the help of mad elf Vail, and his mate Rosalind the witch, Fenix sets out to rescue a woman who may not want to be rescued, at all. What ensues is the recovery of Evelyn, and the potential fall-out as Fenix and Evelyn search for the mage who continues to destroy so many lives.

The relationship between is Evelyn and Fenix is one of fated mates, ripped apart by vengeance and grief. Like MacKenzie (Scorched by Darkness) Aderyn believed she is the last of her kind but as Evelyn will discover that betrayal runs deep and dark in the world of the mage. As Fenix struggles to ensure Evelyn is free, he knows that for Evelyn to fall in love means another death, and a rise to be forgotten. The $ex scenes are limited but passionate.

The secondary and supporting characters include Vail and Rosalind (Tempted by a Rogue Prince 3), Mackenzie and Hartt (Scorched by Darkness 18), Talon (Turned by A Tiger 12), and Kyter (Hunted by a Jaguar 4), as well as the introduction of Archer, Mage Drystan, and Aryanna. Our couple are separated for a good portion of the story line.

INFLAMED BY AN INCUBUS is a story of power and control, vengeance and betrayal, fate and love. The premise is detailed, complex and entertaining; the romance is fated ; the characters are energetic, powerful and determined.

Aderyn grunted as she hauled Fenix into a deep, dank area that came and went, flowing in and out of focus as he struggled to remain awake. Her fear seeped into him through their bond, a tangible thing that drove him to reassure her, to steal that emotion away by somehow healing the gaping hole in his side that was leaking blood.
Probably leaving a trail of it for someone to follow.
His beautiful mate adjusted her grip on his shoulders, fisting the black leather jerkin he wore, her claws piercing the material. “Stay with me, Fenix.”
She sounded desperate, her usually light voice strained with fatigue and fear, and he reached for the connection that linked them, needing to soothe her.
“That trick is not going to work this time.” She huffed and grunted as she dragged him into a large cavern and paused to look around. He stared up at her and wanted to curse when she kept wavering in and out of focus, a blur of spun gold and violet one moment and clear the next. She glanced down at him, worry in her pale eyes that almost matched the colour of her hair as it swayed away from her purple leather corset. “This will do.”
She eased him down onto his back and he grimaced as his side blazed. He needed to get a look at the wound because it felt as if someone had punched a hole clean through him. The surrounding area felt cold, the chilly air in the cavern sucking the heat from the blood that continued to pump from him. He was losing too much.
Aderyn eased to her knees beside him and looked him over, the worry in her golden eyes growing as her fine eyebrows furrowed. Those eyes darted to meet his. “We need to help this close.”
Fenix swallowed hard and shook his head, because if she did what he thought she was going to do, then he would pass out and he needed to remain awake. He needed to be here for her, in case the mage came after them again.
“Should not… have… killed her.” Every word was a struggle as he pushed them from his lips and he hated the way her expression shifted, her emotions changing with it.
He didn’t want to hurt her, but it had been a mistake to kill the wife of the mage, a female Aderyn had befriended and believed able to help her find a way to reopen the gateway between this world and the one of her phoenix kin—a portal that had been sealed shut for centuries. He could understand the betrayal had wounded her and part of him couldn’t blame her for how she had reacted. He had felt how crushed she had been when they had discovered the female had wanted to lure Aderyn into a trap, gifting her husband with the power contained in Aderyn’s phoenix blood.
But killing her hadn’t been the answer.
The mage had come after them because of what Aderyn had done.
Fenix gazed up at her, seeing how much she still hurt because of the betrayal, that pain hidden beneath the worry she felt for him. He cursed the mage’s wife, the less reasonable part of him—the part ruled by his instincts as her fated mate—wishing he had been the one to make her pay for how she had treated Aderyn.
His kind, beautiful Aderyn.
If his female had one flaw, it was that she always saw the good in people and never the bad.
He supposed his flaw was that he too often saw the bad in people and not the good.
The corners of his lips twitched at that.
Fate truly had made them for each other.
Aderyn leaned over him and claimed his lips, tearing a low groan from him as hunger surged and he felt her strength pouring into him. He greedily devoured what she offered to him, savouring her kiss as he fed upon it, part of him trying to hold back his own needs so he didn’t hurt her while the rest of him craved more, demanded he take everything from her. She tasted of heat and spice, a hint of smoke and love. He wanted her to break this kiss while at the same time he never wanted it to end.
A warm haze rolled through him, fogging his mind as his incubus nature rose to the fore and attempted to steal control. He relished the feel of her lips upon his and how strong she was—strong enough to withstand him even when he was starved, maddened by a need to feed. A weaker female would have been killed by him in the throes of his hunger, when he was mindless and vicious in his pursuit of the pleasure that would feed him. Not his Aderyn.
His mate had brought him back from the brink more than once, feeding him well enough to leave him sated for weeks, surrendering herself to him and giving him more than sustenance. She gave him pleasure too. Something he had never truly felt with anyone other than her.
She drew back and feathered her fingers down his cheek, concern shimmering in her eyes as they shone with flecks of amber fire and her brow furrowed. He mourned the loss of the feel of her touch as she sat back and glanced down at his side, her expression growing sombre.
“I am sorry.” She gave him that look, the one that said this was killing her but she was going to do it anyway, was going to go against his wishes and deal with the wound. “I cannot let you bleed out.”
Was it that bad?
He moaned and grimaced, his lips pulling taut as he tried to sit up and get a look at the wound the mage had dealt him when he had struck him with a glowing orb of blue magic that had poured lightning through Fenix’s veins. Pain blazed through him, stole his breath and ripped an agonised bellow from him that echoed around the cavern as he sank back against the damp stone ground. He struggled for air, his heart labouring as he fought to remain conscious.
Aderyn pressed her right hand to his shoulder and leaned over him, and he had the feeling she was doing it to keep him in place. She smiled softly.
“Look at me, Fenix.”
He shifted his gaze to lock with hers, cursed her in his mind when he saw the apology in her pale golden eyes and knew in his heart it wasn’t only because she was about to hurt him.
“Do not,” he croaked, desperation flooding him, making him restless as a need to stop her from doing something so reckless and dangerous seized him.
Her smile wobbled.
Heat blazed across his side, the firelight chasing over the sculpted planes of her face as she gazed down at him, as tears lined her eyelashes.
Fenix tipped his head back and screamed as the scent of burning flesh reached his nostrils, choking him. Every inch of him was on fire, on the verge of turning to ashes.
Darkness rolled up on him and he fought it, desperately clung to consciousness, aware that if he passed out then no one would be here to stop Aderyn from doing something foolish.
But he wasn’t strong enough to hold back the rising inky tide and it swallowed him.
The sound of water dripping in the distance roused him from the dark embrace of sleep.
Fenix groaned as awareness slowly returned, his senses gradually coming back online. His side throbbed at the same tempo as his heartbeat and he swallowed thickly, his mouth as dry as ash.
“Aderyn?” he husked, willing her to respond as the haze of pain and sleep cleared from his mind and he remembered what had happened.
Only the plip-plip-plip of water answered him.
He gritted his teeth and rolled to his right, away from his injured side, and opened his eyes. Everything was blurred. He rubbed at his eyes, clearing the salty grit from them, and tried again. A cave greeted him. Dark. Damp.
Empty, save for him.
“Aderyn?” He tried again, louder this time, hoping she was somewhere nearby and would hear him.
Only he couldn’t sense her.
His connection to her was weak, like a fragile strand of spider silk that could snap with the gentlest of touches.
Fenix got onto his knees, grimacing as small chips of basalt bit into them through his black leathers and jabbed his palms. He scanned the cavern again, aching to see Aderyn, to know that she was safe and hadn’t done something reckless.
Even when he knew in his heart that she had.
She had gone after the mage, still believed he knew the way to open the gateway, that he was the key to succeeding where she had failed so many times before.
He needed to get to her.
He needed to stop her before it was too late.
He pressed his hand to his left side, the hole in his black jerkin so large that he could fit his entire hand in it. The skin beneath his palm was puckered and sore, tender to the touch, but it was healed.
She had saved him.
Now he would save her.
His beautiful mate was headstrong and obsessed, driven by her desire to reunite with her people, and while he couldn’t understand that, he could understand the need that blazed within him—a desire to reunite with her.
He pushed onto his feet, collapsed back to his knees as his legs gave out, and then tried again, refusing to give up. He was healed and that meant he was moving, going after his female. There was no way in this world or the mortal one that he was going to let her face the mage alone.
Drystan would kill her.
Or worse.
He would use her as a source of power, slowly destroying her by stealing her blood to fuel his magic and his immortality.
Fenix couldn’t let that happen.
He made it onto his feet and turned slowly, not trusting his legs. His senses reached out around him but he still felt nothing—no trace of Aderyn—so he focused on himself instead, summoning his strength.
And teleported.
His knees buckled as his boots hit the uneven black ground and his head spun as he tried to look around him, the strange dead garden of the obsidian stone house wobbling in and out of focus.
A scream blasted through the air.
His heart squeezed.
“Aderyn.”
His head whipped to his left, towards the small two-storey house and he teleported inside, stumbled and slammed into a wall. The scent of sulphur and smoke hit him, laced with the tinny smell of magic, and he pushed off, staggering along a wide hallway towards his mate. He could feel her there, ahead of him somewhere. He clenched his jaw as his head turned again, gripped his side and pushed onwards, refusing to let the weakness invading him stop him from reaching her.
His mate needed him.
Another scream cut him to his soul.
“Aderyn!” he bellowed and teleported again, grimaced as he landed on his hands and knees this time and his vision tunnelled.
He was pushing his luck.
He sucked down a breath.
Froze as the scent of blood hit him.
“Aderyn,” he whispered and lifted his head, wanted to roar in fury as he spotted her.
The white-haired mage held her by her throat, colourful glyphs swirling around his hand and her head as she struggled against him, her legs flailing a few feet off the ground. Her boots caught the flowing hem of the black robes the mage wore, each frantic kick knocking the material away from his leathers.
Panic seized Fenix’s lungs as he sensed her weakening. His gaze darted over her and stopped when he found the cut on her neck.
Crimson dripped from it, but rather than flowing down her chest to seep into her violet leather corset, those droplets rose into the air, slowly lifting upwards until they reached a point just above her head, where they gathered into a rippling sphere.
“Let her go.” Fenix pushed onto his feet and grimaced as his right leg gave out and he staggered sideways. He grunted as he hit a heavy wooden bench table and sagged against it. His side blazed as the mage turned cold red eyes on him.
Malice filled them, fury so dark and deep that Fenix swore he could feel the male’s rage.
Drystan slid Aderyn a look.
She screamed, throwing her head back as her body contorted, as another cut appeared on her chest and began to spill more crimson.
“No.” Fenix lunged for her, desperate now. “Let her go. She—”
“She killed my wife,” Drystan snarled, his face blackening as he angled it towards Fenix again. “And now she wishes to kill me.”
Fenix shook his head. “She only wants to open the gateway.”
The mage spat, “Lies. She wants me dead. All her kind do. I lived a peaceful life. I had all I needed… meant to live with my mortal wife for the rest of our days and then pass on as she did.”
His face twisted in vicious lines as he cast a black look at Aderyn where she struggled in his grip, her movements weaker now.
“And she took that life from me.”
Fenix gritted his teeth, anger surging through him too now. “Your wife was luring her into a trap. She meant to gift you with Aderyn’s blood to make you live longer!”
“I will not hear your lies. My sweet Cyra wanted to do no such thing. She was happy as we were.”
Fenix didn’t think she had been. Drystan’s sweet Cyra had spoken of immortality, had seemed desperate and wild when Aderyn had realised what she had intended to do to her and had turned on her.
“Cyra wanted her blood. She wanted to be immortal and she thought you could make it happen.” Fenix growled those words, feeling as desperate and wild as Cyra had been as he looked at Aderyn and saw her fading. She was losing too much blood. If the mage stole much more of it, she wouldn’t be able to resurrect. “Let her go.”
Drystan opened his hand and dropped her.
She hit the ground hard, slumped onto her side and didn’t move. Fenix hurried to her, his heart lodged in his throat as his senses locked onto her. She had to be all right. He couldn’t live without her. Didn’t want to.
He sank to his knees beside her and pulled her onto her back, so she was resting with her head on his thighs. “Wake up, Aderyn.”
The mage stared down at them and Fenix struggled to keep his focus on her as her eyelids fluttered. Her pale golden eyes opened, a glassy quality to them that he didn’t like as she struggled to lift them to meet his. He stroked her cheek, wishing he could give her strength as she could give it to him. If he could, he would drain himself to the brink of death to save her from it.
His eyes misted as he gazed down at her, as he fought to believe that she would make it through this death and that the mage hadn’t taken too much precious blood from her. Her power was in that blood and if the mage had stolen too much of it and she died—
“She will die,” Drystan said. “There is no way of stopping that now.”
“Shut up.” Fenix kept his focus on his mate. “Come on now, sweetheart. Do not do this to me.”
Her eyes slipped shut and his chest constricted.
But then they fluttered open again.
“I loved as deeply as you do, and that love was ripped from me.” The mage came to loom over him and Fenix looked up at him, that tight feeling growing in his chest again as he saw the darkness in the male’s red eyes.
The need for revenge.
Fenix shook his head, silently imploring the male to leave her alone, to leave them both alone.
“I will ensure she does not come after you again. Please. Let her live.” Fenix’s brow furrowed as he gathered Aderyn closer and crossed his arms over her chest in a protective gesture that he knew was futile. If the mage wanted to get to her, he would. Fenix wasn’t strong enough to stop him.
“Oh, she will live. As will you.” The white-haired male raised his hand and closed his eyes, muttered words in a foreign tongue that had the hairs on Fenix’s nape rising and charged the air around him.
Tiny sparks of electricity skittered over his arms and he shook his head as Aderyn moaned and tried to curl up into a ball.
The mage crouched and reached for her.
Fenix batted his hand away and glared at him.
Locked up tight as the male’s crimson eyes collided with his.
Fenix unleashed a frustrated snarl when he tried to move and found he couldn’t. Damn this mage. He tried to yell at the male, to make him leave her alone, but his mouth wouldn’t cooperate.
All he could do was watch as the mage pressed his palm to her chest and continued to mutter something over and over again.
The mage’s red gaze lifted to meet his.
Blazed like fire as the static charge in the air grew stronger.
Aderyn disappeared.
The mage rose to stand before Fenix, his gaze never straying from him, burning like an inferno but as cold as ice.
“I condemn you both. Her to die and forget you if she ever recalls her love for you. You to forever chase her ghost, desperate to make her love you again.”
Drystan turned his back on him and strode away. He disappeared before he reached the door of the room, but his words lingered in the icy air.
“Enjoy your eternity.”

As Skye begin to lead the man away from their intended target, Knox knew that to save his fated mate, he was going to have to reveal the truth about the who, how and why. What ensues is the rebuilding romance and relationship between Skye and Knox, and the potential fall-out Knox fears the truth will push Skye out of his life.

The relationship between Skye and Knox is one of second chances but two years earlier Knox ghosted our heroine, believing a shifter and a human were never intended as fated mates. For two years, Skye struggled with the heart break of her one-night stand, heart break that evaporated when she realized that the two belonged to one another. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

The secondary and supporting characters include Alpha Saint and his mate (cougar shifter) Holly; Knox’s twin brother Lowe and his mate Cameo; bear shifters Rune and Maverick. The requisite evil has many faces.

SAVED BY HER BEAR is a quick read; a fast paced and intriguing story of second chances. The premise is inviting; the romance is intimate; the characters are lively and spirited.
