REVIEW: My One and Only Duke is “A Rogue to Riches Novel”.

This wonderfully written, and the very interesting story has enough twists and changes to give you whiplash. It is set in the time of old King George and has plots within plots. I found it impossible to put down. I found it unique and thoroughly enjoyable.
I don’t do spoilers, I feel reading the book and experiencing the story for yourself is the most wonderful thing in the world. However, I can set up the gist of the story for you to show you what I loved about this book.

Quinn Wentworth in prison for a murder he didn’t commit and sentenced to be hanged. Quinn was raised a poor lad and made his fortune by learning and bettering himself beyond what most could accomplish. He has two sisters and a younger brother and has taken care of them his whole life. He and his partner are bankers with a thriving business and a fortune. Quinn is a generous man, but nobody’s fool. His execution has been delayed because the executioner has taken ill.

Jane Winston is the daughter of a minister who cares for the souls of the prisoners. She is taken into his cell (a comfortable area for a wealthy prisoner) to wait on her father to finish. Quinn objects, but treats her kindly as he found her pretty and interesting. She found him handsome and a little frightening (since he was a murderer).

They had an interesting conversation, each intrigued by the other. Jane had a hard time believing this man, so kind to those around him and well mannered, could have killed a man. He’s concerned about the boy that he’s come to know (Ned), and she says she’ll help him get out of prison and to Quinn’s family to be cared for. During a second visit, make arrangements for Ned, Quinn found out Jane is pregnant, and her husband is dead. He makes a generous offer to wed her before his death and make plans for her to have a house and money to live on. She surprised but having a way to live and raise her child makes her accept.

Behind the main characters, there is a sub-plot happening. It seams the Duke of Walden has died with no legitimate heirs. The Dukedom is in debt and Quinn is the only blood relative in line.

How all this comes about is remarkably well done with great development of the characters. Will they get to him in time? What sort of Duke will he be? Will Jane agree to remain his bride? Who did this to him? So many questions…treat yourself and find the answers by getting and reading a copy of this marvelous story!

REVIEW: Respect for Christmas is a lovely romantic Christmas story.

Lord Michael Brenner, Baron Angelford is a titled Irishman with a lot of common sense and kindness He has a debt of honor to one Lord Beltram. Lord Beltram is an extremely unscrupulous man who long ago seduced his housemaid Henrietta Whitlow into his bed, then when tired of her sent her into a ruined life as a courtesan. Now he wants Michael to steal a book of bad poetry and sketches he’d written and given to Henrietta about their time together. Henrietta Whitlow is a recently retired courtesan, whose only wish is to reconcile with her estranged father and family. She’s a kind person who knows her reputation is ruined, but who only wants to go back to the quiet life she was forced to leave hears ago.

I don’t do spoilers…so that’s as much detail as I will give. Author Grace Burrowes has written a heartwarming story of love and redemption, forgiveness and second chances. Just in time for the Christmas season! It’s not only well written, it’s compelling and scrumptiously romantic. I came to love both the main characters as they learned about each other. A wonderful story of how things can go wrong, and people aren’t always what you thought.

Do yourself a huge solid and cuddle up with this wonderful story.

Review:

A Nanny for the Reclusive Billionaire is a romance story by author Regina Kyle.

I enjoyed the story and it was a relatively quick read. I find most romances to be predictable, which doesn’t bother me if they are well written or told. This one was told quite well.

Here’s the basic set up. Mallory Worthington is a young woman who spent much of her childhood fighting deadly cancer. It left many scars on her heart, not physical ones but the experience of spending time with other children who didn’t survive takes a toll. Her parents are way over protective and kept her pretty much prisoner into adulthood. She attended and graduated from a wonderful culinary school. Her parents expected her to work for their luxury hotel, so they could keep an eye on her. Needing to get away from home and experience life and freedom, she interviewed and applied for a nanny job far away from New York.

Rhys Dalton is a tech billionaire who was widowed almost ten years ago and left to raise his son alone, except for household staff. Rhys’ wife was slain in a drive by shooting in New York. He carries a lot of guilt, because she wanted to move to their Florida island and he was too busy with business at the time. Afterward, he took his son and became a recluse to keep such a thing from happening to his son. A bit much but given his wealth and ability to work from anywhere…understandable.

The writing is well done and very descriptive. The characters are developed and loveable. My favorite is the son, Oliver “Ollie”. He’s imaginative and very smart for a young child. He stole my heart in a New York second.

The attraction between the two main characters is immediate and is the cause of the original issue. Rhys doesn’t want to feel the attraction and thinks he’s dishonoring his wife, so he immediately fires Mallory upon seeing her. He apologizes but doesn’t elaborate on his reasons to her. His driver/assistant is Collins and he persuades Rhys to keep her there until they can replace her…a couple of weeks.

Okay. That’s the set up and the rest of this lovely story you must read for yourself. They say the devil is in the details and the details are very interesting. I encourage you to grab a copy and see for yourself!

The Duke of Seduction (The Untouchables #10) by Darcy Burke-Review & Excerpt tour

Amazon.com / Amazon.ca / B&N / KOBO / Chapters Indigo /

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date August 21, 2018

Lady Lavinia Gillingham prefers rocks and dirt to marriage. Her passion is science, and she’s determined to marry if—and only if—she finds a man who supports her interests and intellect. So far, she’s managed to avoid attention on the Marriage Mart, but when the Duke of Seduction pens anonymous letters singing her praises, she suddenly become the toast of the ton and matrimony seems imminent.

William Beckett, Marquess of Northam possesses the reputation of a rake, but is secretly a romantic. Spurned at sixteen, he doesn’t expect to feel the sting of Cupid’s bow a second time, and yet he’s able to woo the coldest of hearts with the anonymous words he publishes. As the Duke of Seduction, he uses his skill to help Lavinia, never anticipating she has no desire for assistance. While Lavinia is pursued by several suitors, Beck is the one who is seduced when he learns that love can strike twice.

••••••••

REVIEW: The Duke of Seduction is author Darcy Burke’s latest addition to the Untouchables series. It’s a well constructed and interesting historical romance with some great conversations and interesting twists. If you like historical romance stories, this is a very entertaining read.

Lady Lavinia Gillingham is the female lead character. She’s an intelligent young woman with a mind that lends itself to science, but typical of this time, her intelligence isn’t encouraged. Her father, being a duke, Lavinia is aware she’ll one day be required to marry. She hopes to find someone who will support her interests, although she’s in no real hurry to marry.

The male lead is William Beckett, Marquess of Northam, “Beck” to his friends. He’s a handsome young man, well educated. He has no personal interest in marriage or, so he says. He had his heart broken at an early age by unrequited love and isn’t eager to repeat his mistake. He is however, a bit of a rake. He doesn’t mind having affairs with married women, although he is careful not to be caught. He has a few other secrets as well. He pens poems to help several of the unnoticed young women on the marriage mart get noticed. His reasons are the secret.

I don’t do spoilers but let me tell you why I found this story so very interesting. The author has given us a cast of interesting characters with very distinct personalities, well developed. The amusing way the main characters meet, and their developing relationship, is both amusing and imaginative. While it does follow the romantic plan we all know and love, it’s full of little twists and turns. The ending is my favorite and was most surprising. I read this one in a single day much to the disfavor of my spouse…but I simply couldn’t put it down. Ah, the life of a bookaholic!

The room wasn’t overly large, and it was—seemingly—empty. It also wasn’t terribly well lit, with a low fire burning in the grate and a pair of sconces flickering on the wall on either side of the fireplace.
She was either beneath the desk or behind the curtain. He couldn’t see the underside of the desk from the door. It wasn’t a pedestal as Lord Evenrude’s had been.
Circling around, he saw no one hiding there. That left the draperies on the window. He moved to the far wall and instantly noted the slight lump behind the blue damask. Moving forward, he reached for the fabric but hesitated before he pushed it aside. What if it wasn’t her?
The fabric moved, and she bared her face. “You found me.” Her dark gaze registered surprise. “Oh, it’s you!”
“It’s me.”
“Are you still looking for a place to hide?”
“I am.”
She reached for his lapel and held the drapery wide, pulling him into the darkness beside her. “He’ll be done counting shortly. If he isn’t already.”
“I should probably hide somewhere else,” he said, though he was loath to move. Ensconced in the dark with Lavinia, he was acutely aware of her heat and the intoxicating scent of lilies and honeysuckle.
“Yes, I suppose you should.” She turned toward him, and they were so close, her breasts brushed against his chest. “Sorry,” she murmured.
God, he wasn’t. He was only sorry he had to leave.
“Before you go, I wanted to thank you again for the fossils.” She whispered, her breath tickling his neck as she spoke. “I can’t stop looking at them. They’re absolutely extraordinary. I hope I have reason to visit Devon one day so I can hunt for my own.”
“I hope you do too. Consider yourself welcome at Waverly Court any time.”
“That’s very kind of you.”
He heard the smile in her voice and resisted the urge to run his fingers over her mouth so he could feel the curve of her lips. He really should go—
But first, he wanted to ask her something. “Do you know the Duchess of Kendal?”
“Yes, but not well. Fanny’s sister is a good friend of hers. Why?”
Why indeed. Beck wanted to enlist Lavinia’s help to see if the Duchess might be able to help him learn who SW and DC might be. However, if the Duchess had been part of a scandal, she might prefer to leave those memories in the past. Furthermore, he wasn’t sure he should include Lavinia in any of this.
And yet, he found he simply couldn’t resist. “Do you know what happened with the Duchess when she was out in Society—maybe sixteen years ago? The Duke mentioned something, and I was curious. Because my sister was out at the same time.” He added the last because he felt he had to share a reason for his inquiry. Still, he hated bringing Helen up since he didn’t want to answer too many questions about her, particularly regarding her fate.
“She was compromised. A gentleman—I can’t remember who—wooed her. They were caught kissing, and he refused to marry her. She was ruined. It was horrible because it wasn’t even her fault. It’s so unfair. Men can kiss whomever they want, and women are blamed for any indiscretion.”
“The key is to not get caught. It sounds as though this gentleman was rather inept.”
“Are you saying it was his fault?” She sounded surprised. “Most would argue they were at least both to blame.”
“Certainly she retains some culpability, but a decent gentleman would ensure they could kiss and not get caught.”
“And how would they do that?” Something in her tone changed. Her voice lowered, and it felt as though she’d moved just a hair closer.
If he leaned just a tiny bit forward, he was sure he’d feel her breasts again. God, how he wanted to. “They might hide themselves behind a drapery in the library.”
“During hide-and-seek?”
Beck’s cock lengthened and grew stiff as the air around them heated. “Probably not. In that case, someone is actually looking to find them.”
“And yet here we are.” Her voice had changed again, going nearly breathless.
“Yes, here we are.”
“Are you going to, then?” she asked, her breasts grazing his chest as she edged herself against him. “Kiss me.”
“By God, I think I am.”
“Oh, good.”

Review:

MIKE is book one of the new series The Firefighters of Station #8 by Samanthya Wyatt.

This is the story of Mike and Cassie. They meet in a restaurant after the firefighters have a training exercise that goes very wrong. Cassie and her friend Tammy are at the restaurant after a full day teaching at the local elementary school.

The attraction is immediate, but both main characters have reasons to avoid relationships. Author Wyatt weaves a story where they quickly get together and the sparks do fly. This story has many steamy love scenes as the story builds.

Someone is targeting the firefighters and the adventure builds as does the personal stories. You learn a bit about a few of the firefighters as the action also builds.

I don’t do spoilers, it’s better to read it for yourself. This is a good start to an interesting new series. Be sure to grab a copy and get ready for a hot ride.

He turns her world upside down and has her rethinking her vow. She yearns to taste the ecstasy his dark eyes promise. But he holds back. And now she must convince him she is innocent of betrayal.

Review:

Instant Enticement is a new contemporary romance by author Samanthya Wyatt. It’s the story of Kelly and Craig’s finding each other and romance.

Kelly has a serious relationship with Robert, she thinks he’s going to ask her to marry him. However, he breaks their date at the last minute. She asks her friend Sandy to accompany her to the restaurant to keep the reservation. While there, Robert walks in with another woman and Kelly explodes. Turns out Robert is already married. Kelly’s no one’s fool and is shocked she let herself get in this position. After making a scene, she leaves quickly and heads for Virginia and her good friend Dennis.

Dennis is surprised to find her in his apartment, but they’ve always been best friends. Never romantic, although both talk about romance and are very close. They’ve kept their friendship just that. Finding out what Kelly has just been through, Dennis is angry and offers to beat Robert to a pulp, but Kelly wants nothing more to do with Robert. She decides to stay a few days with Dennis and let herself heal.

Dennis has another good friend. This one’s a man named Craig. Craig is the CEO of several companies and very wealthy. He and Dennis have been friends since college, but even though he’s heard of Kelly, he’s never met her. He decides to visit his friend Dennis, while he’s on the east coast. He drives up and sees Dennis’s car, thinking he’s home. However, Dennis used Kelly’s car to go get food that morning. Anyway, Craig decides it’s Dennis in the shower that’s running and decides to play a prank. He fills a bucket with ice and water and dumps said bucket over the shower wall.

It was a wonderful surprise when Kelly jumped out. Wet, cold, and naked. Craig couldn’t believe his eyes. She was magnificent and he couldn’t look away. After a moment he apologized and quickly left the bathroom.

Okay, that’s the setup. The rest must be read to be enjoyed. As you can tell this story if filled with fun, sizzling sex, and quite a lot of misconceptions. The road to Kelly and Craig’s happiness is filled with stumbling over each other, exciting enticements, and a lot of fun. There’s also a bit of danger when an angry Robert tries to get revenge.

This is a good read, with lots of excitement. If you love good romance and the fun of getting to the goal we all know is waiting…this is a must read. Author Wyatt has a real winner on her hands!

Code of Honor by Tonya Burrows – a Review

Code of Honor by Tonya Burrows – a Review

Code of HonorAmazon / B&N / Kobo / BAM

Description
Jesse Warrick used to consider himself a kickass medic, but a teammate’s brush with death has him questioning everything. Now he’s been promoted to field commander of HORNET. How can he lead when he can’t get his shit together? And how can he focus when the sexy new recruit makes him want to break the rules?

Lanie Delcambre can’t seem to find solid footing within the elite hostage rescue team. Worse, the man she’s loved for most of her life is now her boss. She’d kill to act on the chemistry between her and Jesse, but she can’t risk ruining her career.

It was only supposed to be a training mission. No live ammo, no hostages, and no real bad guys—only someone didn’t give the bad guys that memo. When their hotel is taken hostage with half of HORNET inside, Jesse and Lanie are the team’s only hope of escaping alive

Review

Code of Honor by Tonya Burrows is a Hornet Novel. If you don’t know, Hornet is the name of the organization of mercenary operations taken on by this group. This is a good organization of heroes with military or enforcement service who take on operations. This is Jesse Warrick and Elena (Lanie) Delcambre’s story.

Author Burrows has written an excellent novel of adventure, danger, and reluctant romance. It’s well written with great fight scenes and conversations.

This wonderful group is as interesting as it is diverse. Most are heroic, if somewhat or sometimes dysfunctional. They do a serious and very dangerous job and often costs more than mere money can pay them to do.

You need to read the story to get the scoop on all the great characters and their relationships. They are interesting and very complicated. I don’t like to do spoilers but I will give you the gist and the setup of the beginning.

Jesse and Lanie were teenage friends with a lot of connection. A bit young for true love, but maybe not. However, Jesse managed to marry and have a son, then a divorce or two or four? Anyway, it’s been a lot of years and mileage, but Lanie has just come back into his life by training with Hornet.

Jesse’s at a very confusing and bad spot in his life. After years of getting it together, his ex-wife has sent his teenage son to life with him, basically because she doesn’t want to deal with him any longer. The son, Connor, thinks his dad doesn’t love or want him there. That’s not true, but he also knows his mom doesn’t want him around her ‘new’ family (a correct assumption).

Jesse wants Lanie with an almost uncontrollable need; she wants him pretty much the same way, but they’re fighting it with all they have. Neither thinks they’re right for marriage or love.

But things being what they are, they’re off to a training exercise with some recruits and some of the injured and older members of the team leading the way. Jesse allows his son to participate, after all, it’s only training. After the training, they’re headed for time in the sun as a reward.

Then all hell breaks loose at the resort. And I do mean hell…

It’s exciting, interesting, well-written and if you like military adventure and romance, this book’s a must read. I personally, am looking forward to many more of this author’s works. Yes, I’m now a fan!

It’s a relatively quick read and certainly hard to put down, so don’t!

HUSH GIRL : It’s Only a Dream by Gloria Zachgo – a Review

Hush GirlAmazon

Description:
While Nicki Reed is desperate to find the answers to her past, someone is desperate for her to never remember.

Shortly after her father died, Nicki’s nightmares started. They were soon followed by panic attacks. Suspecting her haunting dreams were related to her childhood, Nicki sought professional help, but Nicki was unable to verbalize any memories she had as a child. Bad things happened when she told secrets.
When her therapist suggested she write her memories, Nicki started remembering things she had pushed far into the recesses of her mind. She started to doubt her own sanity, and when she began to see a strange woman stalking her, she couldn’t be sure if that woman was real or imagined. Yet, Nicki couldn’t tell anyone, until—her own family’s welfare was threatened.

Review:

Hush Girl, It’s Only a Dream is a new mystery thriller by author Gloria Zachgo. It’s a psychological thriller detailing the issue of overcoming abuse as a child and dealing with the mystery of murder(s).

This dark, but thrilling, tale relates the issues of Nichole Reed (Nicki), who is beginning to see a therapist about panic attacks, insomnia, and weeping bouts. She didn’t seem to be able to verbalize with anyone about the issues or causes of her problems.

Since she couldn’t talk about the issues, the therapist had her try to write her memories, dreams and thought in a notebook. An interesting aspect of the treatment.

Nicki and her husband Matt had two wonderful little girls Molly and Olivia. Matt is a loving and understanding husband and a wonderful father. Nicki knows how very fortunate she is to have Matt, and her girls. She has a living sister, Cindy, and a brother who had died as a teenager in a motorcycle accident, Brian. Their mother left when she was around five years old. They were raised by their father and later a live-in woman named Sharon.

The story centers around the chronicles of her memories and the abusive treatment by the monster Sharon. The stories are pretty intense and dark, so if you’re sensitive to this kind of story, be warned.

This is the story of a, not just troubled woman, but a real monster who ruled the lives of these children and terrorized them. It’s also the uplifting story of how Nicki overcomes this with the help of her husband and children.

There is some really scary stuff and covered-up murder(s) and attempted murder. The story is fictitious and imaginative, but scarily realistic. There are wonderful parts of family humor as only a child can produce, as well as the dark stuff, adding to the realism of raising a family.

While I caution any who are sensitive to the realistic abuse, I found it to be a page turner and the ending is splendidly upbeat. The author tells a compelling and interesting story that draws you into it completely. I fell in love with Nicki and her children and especially her husband…sigh worthy.

He can’t just throw her out, but surely there’s a way to get her to leave on her own. The sooner she’s gone, the better, especially when he realizes there’s more than just mutual dislike between them.

Review:

Enchanting the Earl by Lily Maxton is a magnificent story begins that in 1812 with a knock on the castle door!

I will admit, I took a deep sigh and began to read, expecting another highland romance…I’ve read other novels from this wonderfully talented author. I should have known to expect something that would touch my heart and my very soul.

It is not a typical romance. It’s a very antagonistic beginning. A very untypical couple. An interesting and provocative read. Okay, so let’s get right to the heart of it!

Theo Townsend is a man in his twenties. He has three younger siblings, two sisters and a brother, all fairly grown. Born to a loving mother and father who later died early, they were raised on the charity of aunts and uncles. Not treated unkindly, but not a loving family either. He joined the war effort to gain a name and calling and, of course, an income for his siblings and himself.

War left him physically broken, missing a leg and gaining nightmares. Just because they didn’t call it PTSD back then, didn’t mean it didn’t exist. It just didn’t have a name and wasn’t talked about. He’s a broken man, both physically, which he handles rather well; and mentally, which he doesn’t know how to handle.

After returning home, he finds his long lost mother’s father was the Earl of Arden (his mother married beneath her for love), who has recently died. He now has a title and an old, unmaintained castle in a remote part of the highlands of Scotland. Thinking this is a good place to find the refuge and solitude he feels he needs, he sets about going there. However, his siblings insist on living with him, and he cannot deny them.

Annabel Lockhart and her younger sister Fiona were an orphaned pair. Annabel the older of the two, took care of you sister. They were raised by family, but not wanted or cared for deeply. Fiona married, and disappointed her sister by not taking her with her after her marriage. Annabel went from family member to family member, taking care of younger children, then passed on to others when no longer needed. While not necessarily abused, she wasn’t given the love of family either.

Her aunt Frances had married the Earl of Arden’s brother, but she was an actress and not liked by the Earl. However, after his brother died, he allowed her aunt to live at his old castle in the remote highlands. Learning of her aunt, she walked away one day and attempted to find her. Her aunt immediately loved her and took her in to live at the castle with her. They didn’t have much, but they made do. Annabel was a free spirit, much like her Aunt Frances. She rode old highland ponies astride, wore men’s breeches while doing it. Laughed openly, often went barefoot. All the things proper women didn’t do.

Fiona showed up on their doorstep, hiding from her abusive husband, her sweet daughter in tow. They didn’t know the old Earl had died and that their lives were about to change again.

That’s only the beginning of this masterfully told story. There is so much more to envision and enjoy, told with wonderful conversations, realistic events and promise. Can two damaged people find comfort in each other, or will their differences and issues be too much to conquer?

Prepare for a wonderfully written story, with drama, mystery, danger and all the wonder that makes a story worth telling. And yes, there will be some tears…they were mostly mine! If you love real romance and real people, you just shouldn’t miss this one.
