REVIEW: GOING DOWN HARD is the third installment in Carly Phillips’s contemporary, adult BILLIONAIRE BAD BOYS erotic, romance series focusing on a trio of close knit friends-Derek West, Kaden Barnes and Lucas Monroe, and former business partner Julian Dane-a spin off from her DARE TO LOVE SERIES. This is billionaire businessman Derek West, and Storms Consolidated heiress Cassie Storms’s story line. GOING DOWN HARD can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story line is revealed where necessary.
Told from dual third person perspectives (Cassie and Derek) GOING DOWN HARD focuses on the rekindling relationship between billionaire Derek West, and multi-media heiress Cassie Storms. As a teen, Derek grew up on the Storm Estate-the son of the family gardener and maid, and his attraction to Cassie was destroyed when days before Cassie headed to college our heroine sided with her friends making disparaging remarks about Derek and his family. Fast forward approximately twelve years wherein Derek is now co-owner of a billionaire dollar computer firm, and Cassie is working for the competition-her father’s business-a business Derek is hoping to destroy. What ensues is a second chance romance between Derek and Cassie, and the revelation about a theft and accusation made to protect the Storm family name.
Cassie was never the spoiled, little rich girl, and her attraction to Derek meant going against her father’s wishes. Along the way, our heroine worked diligently to keep the family business afloat only to be blindsided when her father handed down leadership to his prodigal son. Derek West needed to prove he was worthy of love and respect; successful businessman, a billionaire, and a son who is determined to protect his mother’s reputation, and make someone pay for the death of his father. Meeting Cassie flew all good sense out of the window, and found Derek falling for the woman who once destroyed his heart. The $ex scenes are intimate and erotic.
All of the previous story line couples and characters play secondary and supporting roles including Kaden and Lexie (Going Down Easy) #1) Lucas and Maxie (Going Down Fast #2), as well as former business partner Julian Dane, and Lexi’s sister Kendall Parker. There is some heartbreaking history between Julian and Lexi-there story will be told in GOING IN DEEP. We are also introduced to Derek’s mother Marie, as well as Cassie’s brother Spencer, her father Christopher and her long suffering mother Daniella Storms
GOING DOWN HARD is a quick read; a story of secrets, betrayal, and regret. The premise is engaging and spicy; the romance is passionate and energetic; the characters are genuine and inspiring. GOING DOWN HARD is wonderful second chance story for two people destroyed by sins of the past.
