Description:
The oldest of seven sisters, Ursula Simmons has followed in her mother’s footsteps as a novelist. With a bad case of writer’s block, she brings her notebooks and computer home to the old brothel called Paradise where they all grew up, in the hope that being home for the holidays will inspire her—and since it’s Christmas, all her sisters will be there too. The sisters take the holidays very seriously, and as soon as they’ve celebrated Thanksgiving, it’s on to decorating for Christmas. As all pitch in to make the spirits bright, younger sister Endora is dismayed to find some of the handsome men who’ve come to help doing more flirting than anything else. She’s determined to show her sisters that no relationship is worth the heartbreak. But it might be Ursula who reminds the family that Christmas is a magical time, and finding new love is always a gift.

Review:

Paradise for Christmas by Carolyn Brown is the 1st book in her new Sisters in Paradise series. We meet Ursula Simmons, who is the oldest daughter of the seven sisters in this family.  Ursula has decided to move back home to Paradise, which used to be an old brothel, with her mother still living there with her husband, Joe Clay (she was divorced at a young age, with the first husband leaving her to bring up seven young girls).  The story revolves around the holidays, Thanksgiving and Christmas, and all seven children return home to be together to decorate and celebrate the holidays, (we meet the Simmons sisters, Ursula, Ophelia, Tertia, Rae, Bo, Endora and Luna)

The girl’s mother, Mary Jane is a famous novelist, and Ursula is also a writer, in the midst of a writer’s block that she hopes coming home will find her muse. She is trying to write a historical novel, based on Daisy, a mail order bride, who made friends with the madam during the old days.  Ursula meets Remy, who lives next door, and someone she had a crush on in high school.  In a short time, both Remy and Ursula will begin to have feelings for each other, as well as Remy helping her find old books about the brothel and Daisy, her muse.  I really enjoyed Remy and Ursula, who were so great together.

Luna, the youngest sister (she is a twin, Endora), and she too finds someone she is falling in love with.  Shane is her boyfriend, and their relationship escalates over time.  They too were both great together.  However, Luna and all the sisters try to help Endora get over her broken heart, when her boyfriend, was she caught having an affair with her best friend.

It was nice to see all the sisters return home to help celebrate the holidays, as well as all seven of them spending the day together buying presents for all.  They all take the holidays very seriously, jumping from Thanksgiving and then Christmas. I loved how Mary Jane and Joe Clay (all the girls called him Daddy, since he was always part of the family) created such a wonderful family. I thought Aunt Bernie (a former bar owner) was a hoot, always pushing and using curses forcing Ursula and Luna into relationships. This was a great family with wonderful strong bonds.

Paradise For Christmas was an enchanting delightful family-oriented story that not only captured the holiday spirit, but emphasized a family filled with love, support, happiness and heartwarming. Paradise for Christmas was so very well written by Carolyn Brown. I look forward to seeing who will be the next two sisters.

The Christmas Orphans Club by Becca Freeman – a Review

The Christmas Orphans Club by Becca Freeman – a Review

Amazon / B&N / Kobo / Google Play / Apple / BAM / Bookbub

Description:
Hannah and Finn have spent every Christmas together since college. Neither has anywhere else to go—Hannah’s parents died, and Finn’s disowned him when he came out. Their tradition of offbeat holiday adventures only grows more outrageous with time. When the pair starts their adult lives in New York City, they add stylish Priya and mysterious Theo to the group, solidifying a found family and sense of belonging they’ve always craved.

But now, when Finn announces a move to L.A., this Christmas may be their last. Hannah is terrified of losing the family she’s built for herself, even as her boyfriend nudges her toward commitment. Meanwhile, Finn struggles with the things he’s about to leave behind—namely, his unexpressed feelings for Theo. Does growing up mean growing apart? This Christmas the changes these friends fear may be exactly what they need. . .

Review:

The Christmas Orphans Club by Becca Freeman is a Christmas themed stand-alone novel revolving around 4 best friends. Hannah and Finn are the main characters, with two others to follow within a couple of years. Hannah meets Finn while in college, with most of the people away with family during Christmas.  Hannah’s parents were deceased, and Finn’s family disowned him (because he was gay).  They became best friends, always being there for each other, especially on Christmas day; and when they lived in New York, the found Theo and Priya who became part of their group.  The friendship between the four of them was a holiday tradition over the course of a decade, and now Finn reveals that he got a good job, and is moving to LA.

Hannah is upset, as she always wanted everything to stay the same; even though her boyfriend, David wants a commitment.  Theo, who comes from a wealthy family, is gay; with his father not paying too much attention to him.  Finn has always had a crush on Theo, but he could never approach Theo about a relationship.  Priya doesn’t care about Christmas holiday, but loves being around her friends.  Hannah is the one who is concerned to lose this family of four.

Every Christmas that they spend together, is always entertaining, with movies, games, activities, meals and fun making the holidays always memorable.   The Christmas Orphans Club was a wonderful story about friendship, new found family, love (both LGBTQ & straight romance), as well as drama. The Christmas Orphan’s Club was very well written by Becca Freeman. I have not followed this author on her podcast, but she has done very well with this book.

REVIEW: SANTA BIKER by Nikki Landis is a contemporary, adult, erotic, paranormal MC holiday romance found in the multi-authored RBMC series. This is Jesiah David Holmes aka RBMC cleaner Diablo, and single mother Gina’s story line. SANTA BIKER can be read as a stand alone but for back story I recommend reading PRAYING FOR THUNDER by India R Davis.

WARNING: Due to the nature of the story line premise, there will be triggers for more sensitive readers.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Diablo and Gina) using present day and memories from the past, SANTA BIKER focuses on the building romance and relationship between Jesiah David Holmes aka RBMC cleaner Diablo, and single mother Gina. Diablo has lusted after single mother Gina, best friend of Sasha (Biker’s Gift) but Gina is a single mother struggling to raise her children in the face of an abusive past that has come back to haunt our heroine. Having moved several times to stay ahead of her ex, Gina finds herself with a personal protector in the guise of Diablo, and the RBMC. Diablo and his ‘inner Reaper’ knows Gina is the one, having loved and lost in the past but Diablo’s special ability has revealed the heart ache and pain that the woman he loves has suffered, and the abuse at the hands of a man she once loved. What ensues is the building romance and relationship between Diablo and Gina, and the potential fall out as Gina’s past returns to destroy her life.

The relationship between Diablo and Gina is one of immediate attraction but Gina battles between head and heart knowing her first priority is the safety of her children; and Diablo doesn’t want to cross a line between friendship and love, friendship with Sasha and his brother Bodie. As Gina and Diablo’s relationship quickly grows into something more, someone else is waiting to take back what doesn’t belong. The $ex scenes are passionate and intense.

The secondary and supporting characters are colorful, dynamic and energetic including the return of Diablo’s ‘son’ Thunder.

SANTA BIKER is a story of obsession and vengeance, power and control, love and acceptance, family and friendships. The fast paced premise is emotional and heart breaking; the characters are charismatic and powerful; the romance is seductive and hot.

Some gifts are unexpected.
This Christmas Bodie is in for one hell of a ride.

REVIEW: THE BIKER’S GIFT is the first instalment in Nikki Landis’ contemporary, adult RBMC: TONOPAH NV erotic, paranormal, MC romance series, a part of the multi-authored RBMC. This is Bodie Whitman, and Sasha Pratt’s story line.

WARNING: Due to the nature of the story line premise, there may be trigger for more sensitive readers.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Bodie and Sasha) THE BIKER’S GIFT follow the building relationship between RBMC member Bodie Whitman and Sasha Pratt. Six months earlier Bodie’s ole’ lady was murdered by the Scorpions MC, and in the aftermath the MC president Grim sent away Tricia the woman he loved. Not having heard from or known the whereabouts of Tricia, Grim sends Bodie on a mission, a mission that will reunite the past with the present, a past that looks the same but isn’t. What ensues is the quick building relationship between Bodie and Sasha, and the fall-out as the Scorpions MC takes aim at the club, going first for the women, instead.

Sasha Pratt lost everything to a killer six months earlier, and has been hiding in plain site for almost as long. The appearance of Bodie Whitman stirs something deep within our story line heroine but Sasha has been targeted, and in an effort to protect her only friend, Sasha places herself in the direct line of fire. Bodie Whitman has no idea what is happening or why. Sasha looks like the woman he once loved but Sasha is not the woman he lost. Hoping for a second chance at love, Bodie takes steps to claim our story line heroine but not before Sasha finds herself in the hands of someone else.

The relationship between Sasha and Bodie is one of immediate attraction but both struggle with the who, how and why. Bodie has loved and lost; the appearance of Sasha brings back too many painful memories, memories that about to come to live when Sasha is targeted for sins of the past. The $ex scenes are intimate and erotic.

We are introduced to the members of the RBMC: Tonopah NV-a group of ‘reapers’ whose demons take control when danger is near: Club president Grim, Lucky, SAA Rael, Mammoth, Wraith, Xenon, as well as several ole’ ladies, and Grim’s ex Tricia. The requisite evil has many faces.

THE BIKER’S GIFT is a fast paced, erotic, romance of insta-lust to love; a second chance (of a sorts) for one man who lost everything including his shattered heart. The premise is intriguing and entertaining; the romance is provocative; the characters are powerful, energetic and determined.

REVIEW: BLOODY MINE: Holiday is the second instalment in Nikki Landis’ contemporary, adult RBMC TONOPAH NV erotic, MC, paranormal romance series focusing on the members of the RBMC Tonopah NV. This is the continuing story of club member Bodie Whitman, and his ole’ lady Sasha Pratt. BLOODY MINE can be read as a stand alone but for back story and cohesion, I recommend reading the series in order as Bodie and Sasha’s story begins in The Biker’s Gift.

WARNING: Due to the nature of the story line premise, there may be triggers for more sensitive readers.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Sasha and Bodie) BLOODY MINE fast forwards the series approximately two months with the approach of Valentine’s Day. Bodie and the RBMC knew one man had escaped the wrath of their Reapers, and the club had been anticipating another attack but a hit and run left Bodie on the road, and Sasha, once again, in the hands of the enemy.

Meanwhile, Sasha’s neighbor has found herself in a little bit of trouble, trouble that comes calling when Sasha is home. Possibly connected to the demons from her past, Bodie discovers that threats against the neighbor are also threats against the woman he loves.

The relationship between Bodie and Sasha continues to be erotic and intense, highly sexual in nature, and not without an unexpected surprise.

Most of the previous story line secondary and supporting characters return as well as Papa, Exorcist, and Sasha’s neighbor Gina and her children Olivia and Rev. The requisite evil has many faces.

BLOODY MINE is a story of family and friendships, betrayal and vengeance, power and control, love and acceptance. The premise is engaging and captivating; the romance is sensual and provocative; the characters are lively and charismatic.

REVIEW: DEVIL’S RIDE is the fourth instalment in Nikki Landis’ contemporary adult RBMC: TONOPAH NV dark, erotic, paranormal MC romance series. This is RBMC president Dexter ‘Grim’ Lanford, and Tricia Holloway’s story line. DEVIL’S RIDE can be read as a stand alone but for back story and cohesion I recommend reading the series in order.

NOTE: Some of the events of DEVIL’S RIDE cross over with, and run parallel to, the first three instalments (The Biker’s Gift; Bloody Mine; Ridin’ for H*ll) in the RBMC: Tonopah NV series.

WARNING: Due to the nature of the story line premise, there may triggers for more sensitive readers.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Tricia and Grim) with a final chapter from Patriot, DEVIL’S RIDE focuses on the building relationship between Tricia and Grim, and Grim’s introduction as one of Lucifer’s reapers. Eighteen years earlier Dex Lanford lost two of the most important people in his life at the hands of the Scorpions MC. The resulting chaos came with the arrival of Lucifer Morningstar, offering Dex death or a chance at vengeance. Choosing vengeance, Dex would awake on the side of the road, when a little girl would offer her bear in cautious commiseration. Fast forward to present day wherein Dax Lanford, now known as Grim, as in the Grim Reaper, is the president of the RBMC Tonopah, will come face to face with the past in the form of Tricia Holloway, the young girl now woman he has never forgot but falling for Tricia proved to be more difficult than Grim could have ever imagined when threats against the RBMC and the woman he loved forced Grim to push Tricia out of his life. Months would pass, Tricia found herself on the run, used and abused, until the time came to push her way back into Grim’s life, seeking vengeance for the people she has loved and lost. What ensues is the second chance relationship between Grim and Tricia, and the potential fall-out as Tricia is determined to seek vengeance on her own.

The relationship between Grim and Tricia is a rekindling romance but Tricia must come to terms with the reaper that is part of the man she loves. Tricia has struggled with the monster, the beast that is now part of Dex Lanford’s life but it is the reaper that will inflict the vengeance against the real monster in her life.Grim has struggled with the disappearance of the woman he loves but Dex’s need to protect is about to override when the truth is revealed. The $ex scenes are intimate and provocative.

There is a large ensemble cast of secondary and supporting characters, most of whom we have met in the previous instalments.

DEVIL’S RIDE is a story of betrayal and vengeance, murder and mayhem, power and control, acceptance and love. The premise is fast paced, intriguing and engaging; the romance is intense; the characters are broken and determined but saying that, Tricia Holloway is a little TSTL (too stupid to live) constantly placing herself in the direct line of fire; an easy target for monsters and the men taking control of her life.

Flirting With The Beast by Jane Porter – a Review

Amazon / B&N / Kobo / Google Play / Apple / BAM / Book Depository

Description:
It’s been five years since Andi McDermott lost her husband, and she’s finally starting to feel like herself again, ready to live fully–she’s even started dating again. But when her holiday plans with her stepson and his fiance fall through, she refuses to spend another Christmas alone while everyone is celebrating with their families. Impulsively, she decides to go up to her cabin in Lake Arrowhead, a place she used to love to visit but hadn’t gone to in years, not since the feud started between her husband and their nearest neighbor.

Andi starts to rethink her decision when being alone at the cabin proves to be more challenging than she expected–a heavy snowstorm hits the area, and Andi finds herself trapped there with no one to help except for her neighbor, Wolf Enders. A military vet who lives full-time on Lake Arrowhead, Wolf is as grumpy and intimidating as Andi remembers. But he’s also unexpectedly kind and uncomfortably sexy–his presence reminds Andi that she may be older, but her body still works perfectly fine, thank you very much. But can this good girl tame this sexy beast of a man, and will this snowy fling turn into a love of a lifetime?

Review:

Flirting with the Beast by Jane Porter is the second book in her Modern Love series.  We meet our heroine, Andi McDermott from the start, when she is preparing a Christmas dinner for her stepson and his fiancée.  Andi lost her husband 5 years ago, and now she is slowly starting to live again, including dating.  When her stepson cancels in the last minute, Andi is devastated, and decides to go to her cabin in Lake Arrowhead, which she hasn’t been in years.

Andi runs into her neighbor, Wolf Enders, who had a feud with her husband in the past.  When a major snow storm hits, she loses power, and Wolf invites her to come to his cabin to have dinner and even stay until power returns, he also has a dog, Jax, who will slowly get used to Andi.  In a short time, Andi begins to see Wolf in a different light, with the chemistry between them sizzling, they start an affair. Wolf is a loner, having been in the military for a long time, and early on, he comes comes across as rough & tough, but he finds himself enamored with Andi; as she is to him.   What I really liked about this romance, was that both Andi and Wolf were older characters, both close to 60; but they were awesome together.

Where Andi has no children, with the exception of her stepson, whom she rarely sees; Wolf is divorced, with two sons (a third son died tragically in the military), and his grieving daughter in law, Lindsay, who has a 4-year-old son, Charlie.  Wolf’s ex-wife hates him, and Lindsay isn’t happy staying with her mother-in-law, and decides to move in with Wolf.  Quickly, Andi and Lindsay become friends, with Andi helping her move on. I really loved how close they became, and Charlie was the cutest and fun child.

This is not only a romance, but the story was very emotional, with a number of obstacles along the way, including issues such as mental health, depression, grief, therapy, loss of beloved family members, and taking care of a child.   The last ¼ of the book had me not happy with Wolf, as his behavior was not good, with lots of drama.  Will they end up together?

Flirting With the Beast was a wonderful story, that was also emotional and intense at times.  I loved most of these great characters that Jane Porter created, which was also very well written by Porter.  I totally suggest you read Flirting with the Beast.

The Wish List by Michelle Major – a Review

The Wish List by Michelle Major – a Review

Description:
This Christmas the Carlyle sisters will rediscover the gift of family

For some families, a Christmas reunion is like a feel-good movie. For Beth Carlyle, it might be more of a disaster epic. Her ex-husband’s new girlfriend is already pregnant. Her self-absorbed, bestselling author mother recently suffered a stroke and has summoned Beth’s sisters, Freya and Trinity—neither of whom even seem to like Beth very much—back to Magnolia. Beth’s so lonely and stressed that she spills her guts to a stranger, wondering why the handsome newcomer affects her so deeply. Reality TV star Freya deliberately forged a career that would upset her mother, who’s always been as brilliant as the sun…and just as distant. Now a handsome literary agent is making Freya dream of a different life. As for Trinity, she just wants to start over after leaving an abusive relationship and make a future for her and her baby.

It’ll be a Christmas like no other in Magnolia. But the Carlyle sisters might find they have more in common than their shared past—and that the holidays are made for second chances.

Review:

The Wish List by Michelle Major is the 4th book in her wonderful The Carolina Girls series. This story takes place close to Christmas, and centers on the three Carlyle sisters ((Beth, Freya, Trinity), who are brought together in Magnolia when their mother has a stroke.

Beth is the oldest sister, who has always watched over her younger sisters, when their famous mother (author) is constantly away on tours, leaving the girls to struggle.  Beth still lives in Magnolia, but her other sisters travel home to help. Beth is divorced, and a nurse at the hospital, with her ex also working there as a doctor; they do remain on friendly terms.  Privately Beth wants to step away from her burdens and leave Magnolia, once her mother is better. But when she meets Declan, will Beth allow herself to find love again, or will she leave Magnolia.

Freya is a reality tv star, who does come across early on as a bit sarcastic, especially when she meets her mother’s agent. She doesn’t trust the agent (Greer), even though they both feel their attraction to each other.  Will Freya, who seems to be getting closer to her sisters, open her cold untrusting heart.

Trinity, the youngest sister, is also pregnant, much to the surprise of her other sisters.  What they don’t know is she has run away from an abusive boyfriend.  Trinity is worried she won’t be able to handle having a child, but her sisters promise to be there for her.  Trinity meets the next-door neighbor, who just happened to be the police chief.   A friendship builds, but in time things will change to a possible romance.

I did enjoy seeing the three sisters begin to bond, bringing the family together.  It was nice to see each of the sisters find love. I did like Beth with Declan, Freya finally with Greer, and Trinity with Ash.  I love seeing many of the characters from previous books, such as Mariella, Anji, Carrie, Avery, just to name a few. It was exciting when Trinity had her baby, and when the family stood together against the abusive boyfriend.

What follows is a wonderful heartwarming romantic story with all three Carlyle sisters playing major parts, as well as all finding love.  I enjoyed this return to Magnolia and the comfort of a family reunion; despite the many struggles along the way.  Michelle Major also created a wonderful group of secondary characters, as well as giving us a glimpse at the ladies we loved from the previous series. The Wish List was written so very well by Michelle Major, with three great sisters, hot men, and so many wonderful secondary characters.  The Wish List was a very entertaining read.

As the holidays approach, Harley is inspired to help her former high school crush rediscover his holiday joy. It’s just a good deed…until the feelings she thought were gone come rushing back.

Fire Chief Becker Lange returns home to River’s Edge with a heavy heart. His divorce has emotionally ravaged him, leaving him more confused than ever about what women want. So to protect himself from another failure, he closes his heart. And then Harley Cole makes him a flirty dare that she can help him overcome the holiday blues. Beck’s not sure he wants to, but Harley’s a hard woman to tell no.

Can the magic of Christmas and a sweet stray kitten bring these two lonely souls together?

Review:

The Fireman’s Christmas Wish by Nan Reinhardt is the 3rd book in her The Lange Brothers series.  Harley Cole, our heroine, is a teacher and volunteer for all activity in River’s Edge, as well as a huge Christmas fan.  Harley is not only beautiful, but also makes the perfect girl next door, though she has no boyfriend.

Becker Lange, our hero, is the Chief for River’s Edge Fire and Rescue.  Becker is divorced, and keeps walls around his heart.  After his divorce, Becker returned to River’s Edge, assumed the responsibility of this family, being loyal to his two brothers and mother; their father abandoned them years before, showing up for money on rare occasions.

Becker has always been friends with Harley, and with Christmas near, she is determined to get him to help her with all the preparation, including putting up trees and decorations at her place, his place, and fire department.  With Harley dragging him everywhere, Becker begins to awaken his feelings, which keeps him still trying to be nothing more than friends.  Best laid plans never work.

I absolutely loved the part where Becker finds a kitten outside his house, and in a short period he finds himself loving Lucy and adopts her; of course, Harley falls in love with the kitten too.  The parts with the kitten were precious.  I really loved Becker and Harley together, and prayed they would give in to their feelings.

Closer to the end, Becker is surprised to see his father (many years later), and learns why he has come.  Becker and his brothers, as well as his mom will make amends in this time of need. Beck’s past does hold him back, but will he find happiness with Harley and be her happy place?

Nan Reinhardt gives us a wonderful couple, as well great secondary characters that were so likable, making this story even better.   The atmosphere of this small town was terrific, with a sweet romance, and wonderful friends to lover’s story.

The Fireman’s Christmas Wish was a terrific story, that was very well written by Nan Reinhardt. If you enjoy pure fun, enjoyable romance, wonderful couple, and great secondary characters, then you need to read all three books.

Review:

The Christmas Spirit by Debbie Macomber is another of her wonderful delightful novels that take place during the Christmas holidays. The story centers on two men, who have been best friends since their elementary school days, which each choosing a different path in life.   Hank Colfax runs a popular family-owned tavern; Peter Armstrong is a local pastor, dedicated to his faith and community. They meet weekly at a restaurant (Mom’s Place), and both discuss who has the harder job. Peter claims that Hank has it easier compared to him, and the two best friends decide to switch jobs until Christmas Eve.  To both of their surprise, they discover that things are more difficult than they expected.

Peter has to deal at the tavern with regulars, who insist he knows nothing about pouring beer, causing long delays; he also meets the local bikers, who spend lots of time at the bar; not to mention the young women who work at a strip club.  This was a fun story how they learn about Peter being a pastor, and help him along the way.

Hank takes over Peter’s job, and has to deal with Peter’s sister, who is very difficult.  Hank knows that Grace has changed over the years, but he finds that he still has a crush on her; he will slowly get her to open up and relax more.  Hank also must deal with a mean old lady, who after meeting Hank, decides she will no longer donate to the church or pay for the new roof.  When Grace learns about this, she is beside herself, but Hank convinces her that the old lady is cruel and has no faith, especially not helping her family. When Hank meets the board, he makes some suggestions to make more money (bingo, etc), with Grace beginning to realize how Hank was making things better.

While Hank begins to win Grace over, Peter meets Millie, who works at the restaurant.  Millie needs a job to pay the bills, and Peter offers her a job to help at the Bar; with Hank’s approval.  Slowly, both men find love during the course of the week.  This really was a wonderful feel-good story.  It was also wonderful how everyone joined together (at the bar and church) to plan a wonderful Christmas Party, with many from the bar and church going out of their way to brings things together.

I really loved most of the characters, and totally enjoyed this story. The Christmas Spirit was a quick and wonderful story, centered on the holidays and community spirit.  The Christmas Spirit was so very well written by Debbie Macomber. I suggest you read this sweet wonderful story.
