ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date July 1. 2025

When my fiancé leaves me because I can’t have children, I do the only thing I can think of . . .

I run away to my family’s ranch in Idaho to hide from my feelings and nurse my wounded heart. I expect the comforts of home, the solitude of the mountains, and long horseback rides through the forest. What I don’t expect is my father’s new ranch hand.

Declan Brewer. Tall. Dark. Rugged. And he looks just as delicious on a horse as he does a Harley.

He’s got a wicked smile full of promises . . .

Our chemistry is undeniable, and in one forbidden moment, we combust. But instead of burning out, our energy rages into a passionate inferno. Between bouts of pleasure in Declan’s arms and the laughter we share in his bed, he chips away at the armor I’ve erected around my heart.

Declan is everything I’ve ever wanted, but I’m scared he won’t stay when he finds out the truth . . . I’m broken, and I don’t know if love will be enough.

REVIEW:Huckleberry Hill is the first book in the new Saddles & Spurs series by the ever talented Emma Slate. This is book one in the series, but if you haven’t read this author before, I definitely recommend her Tarnished Angels series.

Hadley is a small town girl who dreams of a simple, fulfilled life of love and family. After having her heart shattered and dumped by her ex-fiance (he totally wasn’t worth it anyway), she returns to her small town of Huckleberry Hill Idaho to heal. Not only is she dealing with the heartbreak from her lost love, which oddly enough doesn’t seem to hurt as much as the pain of learning she will never be a mother. She is infertile. The reason why her good for nothing ex lied and left her. Returning to the ranch that she loves and the town that means so much to her seemed like the safest bet, but being tackled into her family home by the handsome cowboy Declan changed those plans.

Declan is new to the town of Huckleberry Hill, but from the area, taking on the title of the Powell Ranch’ newest cattle wrangler was a step down from his rodeo days, but that’s what retirement does. He wants the small life, that is until he meets Hadley. Saving the woman trying to break into his cabin from a bear wasn’t the best way to meet his boss’s daughter, but the attraction is undeniable and something he can’t stop himself from feeling.

Oh Ms. Author, the things your book did to me! Hadley and Declan were such a fantastic read. Poor Hadley was dealing with more than just the heartbreak of her failed engagement and infertility, but also coming to terms with the fact that she wasn’t living the life that she wanted. She didn’t want to be in a big city, she didn’t want that lifestyle, she missed her smalltown and her family, I think her sister and friends are what kept her there and she wasn’t living for herself. Declan while he is older than her, was just what Hadley needed, they communicated to each other like grown ADULTS which I can say was so nice to see in a romance, but he was also patience and understanding, willing to show her what she meant to her and back up the promises and things he said.

The plot is easy to keep up with, but fun and engaging enough to keep readers entertained and engaged. Hadley’s Dad, Salem, Muddy and Tempest (cus every book needs a baby goat) add such a great depth to the storyline and I hope to see more of them as the series continues. If you like small town romance, this is going to be the series for you.
