ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date November 22, 2022
Victoria “Vic” Paige thought she was firmly back in the saddle since returning to her job as a firefighter after a three-year hiatus. These past twelve months with her new crew at Station 3 have rebuilt her confidence. That is until they are called to a motel fire where she stumbles onto the scene of a murder, which has her shaken to the core. But a pair of calm blue eyes and the deep composed voice of the first detective on the scene restores her equilibrium.
As a recent transplant from the Denver PD to the smaller Durango force, Detective Bill Evans is enjoying the slower pace. So when he is called to a motel fire, he doesn’t expect it to be the first in a series of gruesome murders, bringing back unwelcome memories. The only high point is finding the familiar, beautiful, blond-haired firefighter on the scene. Despite the heavy workload inevitable with a difficult case like this, he’s determined not to let that stroke of good luck go to waste.
However, when the killer turns the investigation personal, Evans finds himself reconnecting with his former partner, Quint Axton, as he scrambles to keep those he cares about safe.

REVIEW:IGNITING VIC is the eight instalment in Freya Barker’s contemporary, adult ON CALL erotic, romantic suspense series, a part of the multi-authored Police and Fire: Operation Alpha series inspired by characters introduced by author Susan Stoker. This is fifty year old, police detective Bill Evans, and forty year old, firefighter Victoria ‘Vic’ Paige’s story. Line. IGNITING VIC can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary. Vic is Trin’s sister (Watching Trin #7).
WARNING: Due to the nature of the story line premise, there may be triggers for more sensitive readers.
Told from dual first person perspectives (Vic and Bill) IGNITING VIC follows the search for a possible serial killer, a copycat case focusing on another killer fifteen years earlier. Detective Bill Evans finds himself investigating the case of a murdered young woman, circumstances similar to a case he closed years before. A violent assault against the victims and subsequent fire forces Bill to look back more than a dozen years, years in which he thought the killer had been found and convicted. Meeting firefighter Victoria Paige brings Bill up close and personal with the woman that will call to his heart but the killer is playing a game, a game involving our story line hero. What ensues is the building romance and relationship between Bill and Vic, and the potential fall-out as Bill’s past take aim at our story line couple.
Victoria ‘Vic’ Paige is a forty year old firefighter who moved back to Durango to be closer to her ailing father but Vic never expected to find herself falling for a man whose own life was about to spiral out of control. Not only is a serial killer copying the murders from years before but someone is targeting our story line heroine, someone who is willing to cross the line of no return.
The relationship between Bill and Vic is one of immediate attraction predicated upon life as a first responder. Bill and Vic continue to cross paths but Bill is about to ensure their paths meet for pleasure as well. Vic is determined to not get involved having battled a stalker in the recent past but Bill is willing to accept Vic, protecting our heroine from the person taking aim at the woman he loves. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.
There is a large ensemble cast of colorful and energetic secondary and supporting characters including the return of Vic’s sister and journalist Trin, her son Tucker and Trin’s boyfriend Bodhi (Watching Trin): detective Jay VanDyken, and coroner Dr. Meredith Carter (Dissecting Meredith 6), detective Jay VanDyken, and coroner Dr. Meredith Carter; forensic tech Dave Krajcek, and firefighter Lance Bruner; FBI Agents Damian Gomez and Jasper Green, and Bill’s daughter Maisy. The requisite evil has many faces.
IGNITING VIC is a story of obsession, betrayal and vengeance, power and control, family, relationships, friendships and love. The premise is edgy, dramatic and intense; the romance is seductive; the characters are charismatic, determined and mature.
