Meet Devin Cole—a paranormal with no powers. Guilty until proven innocent, his powers have been rescinded until his upcoming trial, which he should be preparing for. He doesn’t have time for a runaway bride case. But the bride is a supermodel who also happens to be supernatural, so he and his team must handle damage control. The last thing Devin needs to deal with is a tempting woman who insists on being part of the investigation…and has half the horny supernatural male population chasing after her. But with humans and supernaturals bent on destroying each other, Alex and Devin must put aside their differences and work together. Can Devin protect Alex and defeat the enemy without his powers? And now that Alex knows supernaturals do exist, can she once again believe in a fairy-tale happily ever after?
Review:
A.E. Jones is becoming a favourite. When I got the chance to review the start of a new series with In Sickness and in Elf, I jumped at the chance. What a great new book it turned out to be.
Alex hates weddings with a passion, but being left at the altar can do that to a girl. So running away from that event was the only act for Alex, the only problems she has is that her family are all in the business of wedding planners!! Oh and she has no idea that they cater for supernatural beings as well as humans. Alex has promised her grandmother that she will help find out why the last bride was a runaway at the altar, which threatens to ruin the Bennett Wedding business.
Devin is a paranormal investigator, without paranormal powers. How can he do his job? Pretty well apparently…. he had his powers taken away from him and is awaiting his trial. He is still helping out whilst waiting for the summons to begin his trial.
Devin and Alex work well together (eventually); that is when Alex finally starts to believe that there are things that go bump in the night, and that she isn’t going mad. The attraction between them is almost instantaneous, but neither want to act on it, so both pretend that the sparks they feel for each other don’t really exist.
As they dig deeper in their investigation, they realize that a few other weddings her family organized ran into problems. Is it bad luck, or are darker forces working to put the Bennett family out of business?
The story is well written and all the characters are very believable. The plot moves at just the right pace, and the attraction between Alex and Devin was a nice addition.
I love the grandmother’s tips for a perfect wedding, which did make me chuckle. I’m looking forward to the next book in the series, and I have no problem recommending this series.
