Review:

What can I say, I’m a sports nut and this series couldn’t be more up my alley. I love a good story where the hero is an athlete, and once again Jaci Burton delivers with Straddling the Line. I don’t know how she does it, but book after book, she makes me feel as though I’m a part of the story and right there cheering her hero on as he plays his particular sport. Now, I’m a huge hockey and baseball fan, so her hockey and baseball centered stories are my favourites of hers, but I’ve enjoyed all her other books in her Play by Play series as well. Straddling the Line is book 8 in this popular series by Jaci Burton.

Once again, Jaci delivers on the hotness factor with her latest hero. Trevor Shay is the ultimate in athletes thanks to his sporting prowess in two sports, baseball and football.   The guy is a natural in both sports and somehow manages to juggle a dual sporting career. I loved Trevor from the get go in this one and only grew to love him more and more as the story went on. The guy is not only amazing on the field, but also in the bedroom. Let me just say you will need a pitcher of ice water and a fan close by when you read this one. Trevor definitely knows how to turn on the heat and make a girl loose any inhibitions she may have when it comes to sex. Ms. Burton brings the steam in this romance between Trevor and Haven. This couple burned up the pages in Straddling the Line. Just when you think they can’t get any hotter, they do, but these scenes also provide much needed insight into Trevor and Haven’s psyche’s regarding love and trusting someone else. Neither character has ever been in a long term relationship, or experienced feelings like this before, and seeing them explore them through a sexual relationship as well as friendship helps draw the reader even more into the story and allows us to get to know both characters even better.

As their relationship progresses we see Haven finally come to terms with the death of her father, and it’s Trevor that helps her to finally accept all that happened and what’s happened since her father’s passing. As Haven finally moves forward she starts to see Trevor in a new light, but at the same time realizes there’s a part of himself he’s not letting her see. It’s not until Haven accidentally backs him into a corner that she finally learns his secret. At first it looks as though things are finished between them but in true Burton fashion she allows the characters to work through the issue and see that they are better together then apart, and when Trevor and Haven both go to each other to make up, the scene is magic. There are no other words I can possibly use to describe that scene. I think Trevor had me tearing up a little when he was talking to Haven in that scene. These are two characters who are meant to be together and their journey to their HEA is beautifully written.

Once again Ms. Burton writes a fun, fast paced and emotional story that centers around a sports hero. Both hero and heroine are strong characters and compliment each other very nice in Straddling the Line. They hold their own, and are able to drive the story page after page, making the reader not want to put the book down. As an added bonus for any sports nut like I am, the sport footage scenes are well written and make you feel like you are at the ball field and foot ball stadiums watching Trevor play his two favourite sports. It was also nice to see some past characters return in this one and be a part of Trevor and Haven’s story. The scenes with these characters are fun and comical at times and also provided a nice balance to the emotional part of the story taking place between our hero and heroine. I’d say Ms. Burton has another hit on her hands with this current installment in her Play by Play series. I’m already looking forward to her next installment and I highly recommend this series.

Until next time, happy reading my little sports nuts. 😉

Description:

Logan McCormack likes his isolated life on the ranch, until a movie crew starts filming there. When actress Desiree Jenkins blows into his life, she wrecks it harder than the Oklahoma winds with her brutal honesty and soft touch. Des knows this is a temporary stay, but she loves the open freedom of the land, and for the first time in her life, Des feels like she might have found a place she can call home, with a man she might be falling in love with. But Logan’s heart is tougher than the soil beneath them—can she convince him that they belong together?

Review:

Hope Ignites is the 2nd book in Jaci Burton’s Hope series.  I loved the first book in this series, Hope Flames and couldn’t wait to read this book. I have to say after reading Hope Ignites, that Jaci Burton is quickly rising on my must read list.  This was a wonderful book, and a fabulous couple.  Logan is our hero, as we met him in the first book, being Luke’s brother.  Logan is not interested in anything but taking care of his ranch. He is not interested in woman or relationships, other than a one night stand.  Logan has a long memory of the mother who left them, and refuses to allow himself to suffer like his father did.  He has no intention of allowing any woman into his life.

When he agrees to let a film production use part of his huge property to film a movie, he has no idea that his life is about to change.  We meet our fabulous heroine, Desiree Jenkins (Des), a famous actress, who is the star of the movie. She is an awesome heroine; strong, confident, refreshingly honest, and fun loving.  It doesn’t take long for Des to notice the hot ranch owner, and once she does, Logan doesn’t stand a chance when he is caught up in the whirlwind called Des.  Martha, who is Logan’s housekeeper is a big fan of Des and her leading man, Colt; and that opens the door, as she enlists Logan’s aid to visit the set and meet the cast.

What follows is a fantastic hot steamy romance of a couple, who are enjoying the moment, knowing there is no future for them. Logan becomes obsessed with Des, but knows she has her career, and loves what she is doing.  He loves his ranch, and has no thought of becoming part of the wild world of the film industry.  Des, in between her filming, learns all about the small town of Hope, and Logan’s ranch.  She dreams of having a place of her own, away from the glare of the public, but at the same time loves her career.  But for the couple of months in Hope, Logan and Des become totally involved and it’s fun to get to see some of the characters we met in the first book.  I really enjoyed the buildup of this romance, and Burton has quite a few sizzling sex scenes that truly will steam up your kindle (if you have paper, then your mirror will steam up). 🙂

They made such a great fun couple, though at times I wanted to smack Logan for being so nasty to Des, letting his past (the mother who left them) effect his thinking.

I loved Des’s relationship with her leading man, Colt, who is her best friend.  Colt is gay, and is still in the closet; as he hides his relationship with Tony, his boyfriend. Many people, including Logan, at first, think of Des and Colt as having a relationship, which helps Colt hide the truth. But Des tries to convince him not to hide and to come out and live openly.  Nice friendship between them, very well done.

Hope Ignites was a wonderful fun and sexy romance that pulls you totally in.  Des was absolutely wonderful, and she is perfect for Logan.  Will they find a way to get past the major obstacles stand in their way?  Will Logan ever get past his thinking all woman are like his mother, and trust Des?  Will Colt find his happy ending? You will have to read this fabulous book to find out.  I will say that Jaci Burton gives us a wonderful and uplifting climax that rivals some great movies that we have seen.  Wonderful!

Description:
Everything’s coming together for budding fashion designer Carolina Preston. Only months away from having her own line, she could use some publicity. That’s when her brother suggests his best friend as a model—hockey player Drew Hogan.
Carolina and Drew already have a history—a hot one, back in college. Unforgettable for Carolina, but for Drew, just another slap shot. This time, though, it’s different. His perfect body would be for professional use only. This time, she could use him.
Drew is all for it. He’s looking forward to the exposure. Plus, it would give him a chance to prove to Carolina that he’s changed. If only he could thaw her emotions, convince her to let down her guard and let him in just one more time…

Review:

For anyone who knows me, they know I love my sports, especially hockey.  So it shouldn’t come as a surprise I’m once again reviewing Melting the Ice, another hockey themed book by Jaci Burton. I just love her Play by Play series as every book has another hero who’s a professional athlete.  I had never heard of Jaci before her previous hockey themed book Taking a Shot which I reviewed for TRC, afterwards, I had to go back and read the others.  I wasn’t disappointed that I did, and am glad I’m trying to keep up with this series.   So when I heard she had another hockey themed book coming out, I couldn’t wait.  I had to read about her latest hockey hero Drew Hogan and his lady love, well, he wants her as his lady love, Carolina Preston.

Drew and Carolina have a history dating back to a one night stand in college.  At the time Drew was spooked by his strong feelings for Carolina so like a coward he was back then, left and never contacted her again, and that didn’t sit well with Carolina.  Now it’s eight years later and she’s trying to make a mark in the fashion world, so when her brother Gray(One Sweet Ride) suggests his best friend and hockey star Drew Hogan as a model, Carolina isn’t so sure. However, once she sees him again, things really progress between them.  Ms. Burton really hit the mark with these two characters. They just brought the story to life with their personalities, witty banter, playfulness, sexual chemistry that was off the charts, and just a real sense of ease and comfort around each other. I found them to compliment and balance each other just right, but at the same time, each had their own edge to their personalities that drove them professionally and personally. I really liked these two characters and found the story just flew by for me because of it. It was so easy to sit back and read about these two characters and enjoy what was happening.  When a book can fly by like that for me, and before I know it I’m reading the last page, then I know I’ve really enjoyed what I’ve just read, but am sad I’m done that book so soon.

The hero and heroine weren’t the only well written characters.  All the secondary characters in the book were equally as good and help to move the story along and add depth and personality to not only the story, but our main couple.  We get to see pieces of them through the eyes of the secondary characters.  We get to see Caronlina’s family again, and also get to see just how much her family has always seen Drew as family through his friendship with Gray.  Watching Gray first catch Caronlina in Drew’s bed at their family home over Christmas, then come to terms with their relationship was fun to watch.  He had that whole ‘big brother must protect little sister’ thing going on, very sweet.  It was also fun to watch Drew muddle his way through this relationship.  He’s your typical jock, who is more comfortable in his sport skin, then relationship skin.  He had me chuckling as I read the scene where he finally was attempting to admit his feelings to Carolina.  Even though he was doing a semi bad job at it and tripping over his words, I loved the scene for it was sweet and endearing and made me love Drew all the more for it. Watching Drew slowly whoo Carolina and get her to see he changed from college and is really ready to settle down and that she’s the only girl for him, can I just say swoon time.  Drew is so charming, fun, and sexy as hell, plus a professional hockey player, that spells perfect male for me.

This was a fun and fast paced read for me. I loved every aspect of the book from beginning to end.  The slow to build romance, the fast paced hockey scenes and team mate camaraderie, playfulness between Drew and Carolina, and the off the charts chemistry and love scenes between them that left me needing a cold glass of water.  Let me just tell you, I will never be able to go to a hockey game again, or watch one on tv without thinking of the underwear photo shoot scene that Carolina did with Drew on the ice in front of the net, wooo baby…fanning self.  Once again Jaci has out done herself with this latest installment in her Play by Play series.  Now I have to wait a whole year before the next one comes out.

Until next time, happy reading everyone

But when Luke McCormack brings in his injured police dog, Emma can hardly ignore him. Despite Emma’s best efforts to keep things strictly doctor and owner of the patient, Luke’s one hot distraction

Review:
Hope Flames by Jaci Burton is the first book in her Hope series.  This is my first book by Burton, and after reading Hope Flames it will not be my last.  I loved this book. It was such a fun, relaxing, enjoyable and sexy read.

The story takes place in a town called Hope, and we meet our heroine, Emma at the start.  Emma, after being away for years, has returned home to Hope to start her own Animal Clinic.  After a successful first day, Emma is about to close when she meets Luke, who is a cop in town.  Luke brings his injured dog, Boomer, who also acts like a police dog, helping apprehend criminals.  There was an immediate attraction between them, but because both have had bad experiences with romance, each hesitated to act on it.

This was such a wonderful romance, as Burton took the time to slowly build up this romance, with them first becoming friends. Luke wasn’t interested in any romance, just one night stands, but he knew there was something different about Emma, Emma herself was determined to build up her practice, and not let herself become emotionally involved with any man, especially after her last relationship was a disaster. But then the friendship only didn’t last too long, as their sexual chemistry was off the chart.  When they acted on their desires (very hot), they both convinced themselves to enjoy what they had, without any committments.

What I loved about this book was the small town atmosphere, with their friends, and family that made this even better.  I absolutely loved their dogs; Luke’s Boomer, and Emma’s Daisy and Annie. It was so much fun to watch them all together.  Their romance was so heart warming, as they had to get past their bad experiences, allowing themselves to open their hearts.  They both started to fall hard for each other, and the sexual chemistry between them was off the wall, and so well done by Burton.

The last quarter of the book was very exciting,  with a side story of a burglar stealing drugs from various places, including Emma’s clinic.  But the most suspense comes from the past rising up to put one of them in danger.

This series has so such potential for many of the characters whom we got to meet in Hope to have their own book.  Hope Flames was such an enjoyable read, with a great couple;  wonderful romance with some hot sex scenes; and  cute lovable animals.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book that I read this in one day, since I did not want to let this go.   Jaci Burton has impressed me as writer, allowing  me to get to know and love her characters.  This was such a warm, and fun story. I am now vested into reading this series to see everyone in Hope again.

Description:
“A Riley wedding is in the works, a Riley Christmas means a house full of family, and baby making is on Liz Riley’s mind. Chasing Gavin around and meeting in dark closets can be fun, but Liz is more than a little determined. Even with family in every corner of the house, Gavin is more than ready to do whatever Liz wants—especially when sex is involved. It’s a Riley family Christmas.”

Review;

For anyone who is a fan of Jaci Burton and her Play-by-Play series then this short story is a must.  It’s a nice reunion of sorts with all the members of the Riley family and their significant others.  I really enjoyed being able to revisit with all these characters and see what they have been up to. Ms. Burton has created a wonderful set of characters within the Riley family and their significant others and all are showcased nicely in this story.  I also love that fact that the story takes place around Christmas, with a Christmas wedding taking place, and thoughts of baby making running through Liz’s head. Oh what a fun filled Riley Christmas this is turning out to be.

Since this story is more of a reunion of sorts for Burton fans and her Riley family characters, not much in terms of drama takes place.  It’s more of a relaxed, laid back type of story, and having the chance to catch up with our favourite characters from past books.  It’s wonderful celebration of family and friends.  Don’t get me wrong, Ms. Burton makes sure she has enough sizzle in the book between Gavin and Liz as they try to get pregnant, and Liz is not shy about this with Gavin.  She will steal any chance she can to get Gavin alone and into baby making mode.  We really get to see just how much they’ve grown as a couple and that their life together is still sizzling.   The love they have for each other runs deep and it’s shown time and time again in every scene they have together.  Not only are Liz and Gavin blissfully happy, but so too are all the other couples.  Even though the major plot line centers around Liz and Gavin and her quest to have his child, we are also treated to a Christmas wedding between Ty and Jenna(Taking a Shot).  There is no shortage of love and happiness  this holiday season within the Riley family.

Being a fan of this series I enjoyed Holiday Games. I liked the overall setup of the story, being able to revisit with and catch up with past couples. It’s nice to see the family camaraderie during sporting events, and even nicer to see just how close this family is, and what they all mean to each other.  The Bachelorette and Bachelor party scenes for Jenna and Tyler are fun filled, and add the perfect balance to the emotional turmoil Liz is going through as she tries to have Gavin’s baby. The scenes between Liz and Gavin are touching and heartfelt and the emotion between the two pours off the pages.  Jaci Burton has written a wonderful short story that takes place over the holidays, well showcasing all of her amazing characters who make up the Riley family in her Play-by-Play series.  For anyone who is a fan of her Play-by-Play series this one is a lovely bonus to the series.

Happy Holidays and a very Merry Christmas

Happy Reading, until next time!
