REVIEW: JAX is the seventh full-length installment in Kym Grosso’s contemporary, adult Immortals of New Orleans paranormal, erotic romance series. This is wolf shifters Jax Chandler, Alpha of the Agrestis Wolves, and Katrina Livington’s storyline. JAX can be read as a stand alone although for cohesion and backstory I recommend reading the series in order as many of the previous storyline characters play secondary and supporting roles throughout. There is some bad blood between the Agrestis and Lyceum wolves including a misunderstanding regarding Jax and Katrina’s potential mating, and Tristan’s non-acceptance of his sister’s mate.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Jax and Katrina) JAX focuses on the rescue and recovery of Katrina Livingston. For several years Lyceum wolf shifter Katrina (Tristan’s sister) has been the victim of a series of abductions at the hands of what she believes are witches and demons. Her latest kidnapping finds a kindred spirit in the Agrestis Wolf Alpha Jax Chandler, who has found himself in the same predicament as the woman he once believed to be his fated mate. Following their escape to freedom, and Jax’s need to keep Katrina close, our couple begins the search for the people or things behind their abductions, and the reason Katrina has been targeted by an unknown source. What ensues is a building relationship and fated mating between Jax and Katrina; the search for the truth; and Katrina’s continuous rejection of claiming Jax as her mate.

Something about Katrina is changing. With every kidnapping, Katrina’s powers and abilities have changed and grown. But her greatest fear is the loss of her wolf as she begins to lose the ability to shift. As Katrina’s wolf begins to disappear, other abilities come to the forefront as the search for the demons brings the wolves full circle when they are pulled into the world of witches and magic; betrayal and revenge; and the search for the ultimate power.

The attraction between Jax and Katrina has already been established. At each meeting between our couple the spark of a mate cannot be ignored but Katrina lied to her Alpha about Jax’s intentions, and Jax’s anger towards Katrina has grown with every encounter. The $ex scenes are erotic and intense. Jax knows that Katrina is his mate but Katrina is not willing to place Jax in the direct line of potential harm –the demons want something from Katrina, and Jax is determined to protect the woman with whom he is falling in love.

JAX has a large ensemble cast of characters with vampires, witches, demons, wolves and shape shifters including wolves Tristan, Jake and Finn, and vampire Luca and his (witch) wife Samantha. Samantha is nearing her date of delivery, and with it comes the potential for more harm than good. There are numerous references to previous storyline premises as the build up to Jax and Katrina’s storyline crosses over several installments between New Orleans and New York, and the inclusion of Ilsbeth-the powerful witch who started it all.

JAX is the culmination and build up of several storyline premises (including Dimitri #6) wherein the wolves are targeted for their power and ability to shift; an engaging, erotic, romance with some M/F/M sexual situations, bondage and discipline, and light spanking. The story is infinitely detailed, intriguing and wondrous; the characters are passionate and dramatic; the romance is intoxicating and intense.

Kym Grosso’s IMMORTALS OF NEW ORLEANS is a magical and provocative series focusing on the supernatural species of vampires, shifters, witches and more. JAX is a must read for followers of Grosso’s IMMORTAL OF NEW ORLEANS.

REVIEW:  4 out of 5 for this reader folks!

Well JAX (AKA Jacquelyn Frank) did it again. She created another world for me to fall in love with! I have to give you a brief over view of this book before I touch on the characters/story line, so you can understand what is what and who is who!

A slightly futuristic/paranormal setting in the common world. A long while ago, a devious Dr wanted to create an anti-aging remedy for the human population. In the process, he ended up creating an entirely new species from the humans he used as his test subjects. They are referred to as Morphates who believe themselves to be superior to the human race, are faster, are strong, who develop fangs and claws and have the urge to drink blood. They are aggressive, immortal, sexual creatures who have been accepted for the most part by the human society as long as they remain in the “Dark Cities” that house common human criminals. In other words, they are to keep company with the “human scum”

Of course, there is always a few that want world domination … lol 😉

Liam Nash is our hero and he is the head of a top notch security team that has been hired to protect our heroine Devon Candler. Not knowing she was a woman, let alone the most incredibly sexy, beautiful woman he has ever seen, throws Liam back a bit. The force of attraction these two have for one another is nothing short of animalistic … which is appropriate … read the book and you’ll understand why! LOL

Devon Candler, smart as she is sexy has developed a weapon that can destroy the Morphates. The Morphates know it too and need to destroy Devon first to ensure that her weapon and secrets do not get out. Assassin after assassin has been sent to kill Devon, but she always seems to get by and survive. She researches Liam and discovers he has successfully killed a Morphate before and hires him immediately to provide her with the additional security.

Liam has never mixed pleasure and business .. until now. He just can’t seem to help himself with Devon as she drives him to levels he never knew existed. He is fiercely protective of her and as the story unravels he begins to discover so many secrets and what drives Devon to do what she does. He is nothing short of amazed by her … he soon realizes and is confronted by his team that the very desire that drives him to protect her is the same desire that can get her killed.

This is a sexy read that is filled with passion, action, and secondary characters that I cannot wait to read more about. I really enjoyed the world Jax has created here and how it came to be. I loved the science that she explains and the medical interventions that are used. Actually I loved it so much that I wanted MORE. There wasn’t enough diving into the Morphate world and I craved that. I had questions that I wanted answered and this is where this book lost a point for me. Maybe we’ll be lucky and have JAX deliver another book and turn this into a series.

Here is a snippet from the book that gave me a good chuckle and goes to show how the sexual tension goes on between Liam and Devlon.

“Is it better for you from the front or the back?”

He’d ask the question with just enough innuendo to get himself slapped. But this was Devon, and she wasn’t exactly the shy and retiring type who got easily affronted. Her eyes widened as she absorbed the intent of the remark, and he could swear he saw her mouth twitch at the corners.

“I think both,” she said softly, a tilt to her head adding speculation to the answer. “We can start from the front, and …. assuming you don’t get too worn out, we’ll finish from behind.”

“And if I do get worn out?” he asked with a chuckle.

“Then I’ll just have to lay you out flat on the bed and do you like that.”

Can you believe this is conversation about stitching up his shoulder?? BAHAHAHAH! WINK!

HAPPY READING! 🙂

REVIEW
4.5 out of 5 for this reader folks!

This book was somewhat of a surprise for me.  I have to admit I have not read many books that center around witches as they hadn’t really interested me all that much, but this book just may have changed my mind!   Hunter by Jax (pseudonym of Jacquelyn Frank) was a great, quick page turning read!

So let’s start the review shall we??

So our leading lady Tatyana decides to surprise her brother Dimitri by driving out in the middle of ruralville to say “Hi, I miss you big brother!”  What she doesn’t expect is that her little drive is about to change her entire life.  Her car breaks down, it’s freezing out, she is wearing a smexy dress and heels (thank goodness she packed her runners to change into ..lol) and she decides it’s not cool to freeze in this spot .. off she goes walking to the house.

When she knocks on the door, she literally falls into the hot arms (figuratively and literally) of our leading man Hunter.  Instantly, these two have a serious case of “love at first sight and I wanna jump your bones”.  After she warms up a little, she is thrown right into a battle of sorts that reveals all kinds of secrets and why her big brother has been absent from her life for the past while.

Tatyana discovers these people that live in this beautiful mansion are members of Willow Coven, a white witch (good witch) nest.  She also discovers through this battle, that she is a dormant witch herself and her powers are ignited when Hunter blood bonds with her to claim her as his familiar.  A familiar is a dormant witch that has been awakened by another witch good or bad and is mentored by that witch.

Now we need to introduce the antagonist of this story.  Enter Braen!  Braen just so happens to be Hunter’s brother and a dark witch (evil witch) and a serious A HOLE!  I really really hated this guy and Jax wrote him perfectly as there was nothing good about this man.  Braen happens to be the leader of the local dark coven who is trying to defeat Willow coven.

So there is the foundation of the story without giving away too much!

Here’s what I loved!  All these witches (good and bad) have special powers unique to their coven.  We see everything from a Sentinel, alchemist, weather witch and a healer (an so much more).  I loved reading about all the different sorts of magic and spell casting used and it was all so unique to anything I have read in the paranormal genre.  I could picture all the magic as I read every word and see the colours, hear the chanting!  I also loved the animal like attraction that Hunter and Tatyana have towards each other and it’s explained why further into the book (I’m not gonna give it all away ya know .. WINK)

I also loved how I was surprised on any given page about a few of the scenes, wondering if it was real or if magic was weaving it’s web.  I actually gasped at certain parts feeling angry and then relieved and then angry and then happy and then .. well you get the point!  LOL

Why this wasn’t a hot 5 out of 5 for me is simple to say.  I wanted more dark coven scenes and explore that side a little more.  Jax had written the bad guys so well I actually wanted more of then to read about and what made them tick.

So if you love the paranormal genre (especially witches) and you love lots of hot scenes, action and unexpected turns with a touch of strong family bonds tied in then this book is for you!  I am uncertain is this is going to be a series (YES PLEASE) but I will certainly be making sure that I have the next book if it is!

HAPPY READING! 🙂
