ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date May 17, 2016

Teamwork improves the chances of scoring . . .

When the Bobcats’ fate on the field is sealed, and they would rather give their starting quarterback, Trey Owens, a break, they call in Josh Leeman: “The Backup.” But after Trey is placed on the disabled list for the season, all eyes are on Josh to lead the team. Josh’s sudden superstar status thrusts him into the spotlight, and garners plenty of attention from the ladies—except for one.

Carrington Gray is delighted to see her father released from the hospital—but not so much to see Josh at the celebration. Their mothers have long tried to set them up, although it’s had the opposite effect. But under the circumstances, Carri and Josh would rather go on fake dates to appease their mothers than rock the boat. Yet the more time these two work together on their little lie, the more they see the surprising truth.

REVIEW: COMPLETING THE PASS is the fifth installment in Jeanette Murray’s contemporary, adult SANTA FE BOBCATS erotic, sports romance series focusing on the members of the professional football team of the same name. This is second string quarterback Josh Leeman, and real estate investor Carrington Gray’s frenemies to lovers story line. COMPLETING THE PASS can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Carri and Josh) COMPLETING THE PASS follows Carri as she returns to Santa Fe to help her mother look after her ailing father. Carri and Josh’s families have known one another all of their lives, and with Carri’s return their meddling mothers plan to push the couple together unaware that Carri and Josh’s relationship has been antagonist for many years. What ensues is the building relationship between Carri and Josh that slowly melts the ice around our heroine’s heart.

The long running love –hate relationship between Carri and Josh is a perpetual theme throughout the book but more so for our heroine who is unable to forget about the past. There is never a reasonable explanation as to why our couple has been frenemies for most of their lives but in the end, Josh needs someone to ground him as he takes over the Bobcats quarterback duties, and Carri is the only one to keep him in line. The $ex scenes are provocative and seductive.

The world building continues to focus on the Santa Fe Bobcats-the team, the friendships, the relationships and their loves. The epilogue fast forwards the story line four years, so I am not sure where that leaves the remaining players or the updates of the couples we have already met.

COMPLETING THE PASS is an entertaining and enjoyable read. At times Carri’s attitude and dislike of Josh ran a little too close to childish and immature-she was a difficult heroine to like in the early stages of the story as she continued to push too many buttons. The premise is heartwarming; the characters are engaging and colorful; the romance is a cat fight to a happily ever after.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date March 1, 2016

Kara is a single mom working hard to keep life running smoothly for herself and her son, but a custody battle is wearing her down. When her friend suggests asking a JAG officer for some unofficial advice, Kara agrees—and soon finds herself officially head over heels…

As a Judge Advocate, Graham has seen his share of nasty custody disputes—and he plans on keeping his distance from this one. But this purposeful, passionate woman has a way of drawing him ever closer to the edge. And when Kara’s ex starts to throw his weight around, Graham will have to choose between toeing the line or stepping into the ring.

•••••••

REVIEW: FIGHT TO THE FINISH is the third and final installment in Jeanette Murray’s contemporary, adult FIRST TO FIGHT romance series focusing on a group of US Marines’ boxing team. This is Judge Advocate Graham Sweeney, and single mom/yoga instructor Kara Smith’s story line. FIGHT TO THE FINISH can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty but I recommend reading the series in order as there is an ongoing story line of attack against the Marines that runs through each of the installments.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Kara and Graham) FIGHT TO THE FINISH is the culmination of three stories; three couples, and the increase in vandalism against the Marines in question. Graham Sweeney is a Judge Advocate with the Marines, and a member of their boxing team whose attraction to yoga instructor Kara Smith does not go unnoticed by everyone around. Kara is a single mother to ten year old Zach-a young boy with multiple food allergies that forces our heroine into a rigid lifestyle when it comes to protecting her son. What ensues is Graham’s seduction of Kara Smith, and Kara’s struggle to keep Zach’s father from destroying their lives.

The relationship between Kara and Graham is one of immediate attraction but Kara knows that their time together is limited. Graham will one day be shipped out of state, and Kara does not have the ability to move at will. The $ex scenes are impassioned and intense.

There is a secondary story line running through the series following a number of minor vandalism cases that have been increasing in damage and danger. The Marine’s appear to be the target of these attacks but the attacks have become more personal and dangerous. The person(s) responsible is becoming obvious, but the twist, is the reason why.

All of the previous story line couples and characters play secondary and supporting roles. The world building continues to focus on the boxing team, their friendships, their loves, the struggles both in and out of the ring. The action takes place behind the scenes, outside the ring, and of course, during their tournament play.

FIGHT TO THE FINISH is an emotional story line about friendship and family; betrayal and revenge; moving forward and letting go of the past. The premise is revealing, entertaining, and heart warming especially as it pertains to Kara’s son Zach and his relationship with Graham. The characters are charismatic, energetic, fun and animated; the romance is passionate and alive.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date January 19, 2016

They’re not on the same page in the playbook…

When Anya Fisher is asked to be the maid of honor in her best friend’s wedding, she jumps at the chance to go to Santa Fe. There’s nothing left for her in Atlanta—except a bitter and controlling almost-ex husband. Starting over as an online personal shopper is challenging, but not as much as having to plan wedding festivities with uptight groomsman Josiah Walker…

As a Santa Fe Bobcats running back, Josiah wants to make his mark on the field, not on the earth. A serious conservationist, he’s all about saving energy. So why is he wasting so much on the flighty fashionista in his best friend’s wedding? One kiss leads to another—and more. But when Josiah discovers that Anya has just as much substance as style, their harmless little fling may go into overtime.

••••••••

REVIEW: ROMANCING THE RUNNING BACK is the fourth installment in Jeanette Murray’s contemporary, adult SANTA FE BOBCATS football romance series focusing on the members of the Santa Fe Bobcats professional football team. This is Bobcat’s running back Josiah Walker, and personal shopper Anya Fisher’s story line. ROMANCING THE RUNNING BACK can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Anya and Josiah) ROMANCING THE RUNNING BACK follows the building relationship between Anya And Josiah, a forbidden relationship when the truth about Anya’s almost ex-husband comes to light. Anya is a professional shopper and a very busy lady who moves to Santa Fe to help organize and plan Cassie and Trey’s (One Night with the Quarterback) wedding / bachelor & bachelorette parties but a move that takes everybody by surprise. Anya has a secret back home, and distance is the only way she is able to handle her almost ex who refuses to sign on the dotted line. Enter Josiah Walker, Trey Owens’ s team mate and the man who brings out all of the worst in our story line heroine.

The relationship between Anya and Josiah begins acrimoniously. Our couple is thrown together by Trey and Cassie in the hopes of making a love match but what ensues is the push and pull between two people whose lives and personalities are polar opposites. Josiah doesn’t understand the need for a professional shopper or a fashionista of any sort; and Anya believes Josiah’s need to be ecologically friendly goes beyond what is actually necessary. There is plenty of sexual tension and anxiety as Anya and Josiah play off one another’s personality quirks. The $ex scenes are intimate without the use of erotic graphic text or language.

All of the previous story line couples play secondary and supporting roles throughout the story line as Trey and Cassie prepare for their upcoming nuptials. Cassie’s half sisters continue to add a little bit of family confrontation. While the Santa Fe Bobcats make a run for the Superbowl playoffs, Anya pushes herself in one too many directions. Time on the playing field is limited although the players do spend plenty of time watching replays and reruns of their games. Anya’s not quite ex-husband makes for a scandal that could affect her future with the Bobcat’s running back.

ROMANCING THE RUNNING BACK is a fun read with the push and pull between two people whose introduction to one another did not go according to plan. The premise is entertaining with a little bit of humor and fun (e.g. Koala fart towels); the characters are colorful, charismatic and frustratingly real; the romance was a bit of a slow build to a happily ever after. There are moments of friendship and love; moving forward and letting go of the past; resignation and realization that sometimes love does conquer all.

Against the Ropes

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date October 6, 2015

As a troubled teen, Gregory Higgs channeled his energy into boxing instead of breaking the law. The ring gave him purpose and something to strive for. So did the Marines. Combining the two seemed like a natural fit.

Another natural fit? Reagan Robilard, the sweet athlete liaison who keeps all the fighters out of trouble and manages their PR—a job that gets more challenging when someone digs up the truth about Greg’s not-so-shiny past after equipment is vandalized at the gym.

Even if it wasn’t her job, Reagan can’t let Greg take the fall. Because passion doesn’t pull any punches when it comes to matters of the heart

••••••••••••

REVIEW: AGAINST THE ROPES is the second instalment in Jeanette Murray’s contemporary, adult FIRST TO FIGHT military, romance series focusing on a group of Marine Corps boxers and the women they love. This is Marine/boxer Gregory Higgs, and PR representative Reagan Robilard’s storyline.

Told from several third person points of view AGAINST THE ROPES continues to focus on the destruction, and threats against the Marine boxing team with the attacks becoming more personal and aggressive. As the PR representative for the boxing team, it is Reagan’s job to spin the press but the continued attacks and threats against their own find Reagan falling behind when the attacks become personal and Greg Higgs is a target for both the press and the harassment. Several purposefully planted clues take aim at Greg and his ‘colourful’ past, and Reagan’s job is on the line when she is unable to keep a handle of the negative PR.

The relationship between Greg and Reagan is one of mutual attraction that finds our couple trying to keep secret their liaisons and personal life. While Reagan continues to push Greg for information about his earlier life, Reagan soon discovers that the man with whom she has fallen in love has a secret and dangerous past she knew nothing about. The $ex scenes are intimate and romantic; there are no erotic sexual situations and no graphic sexual language.

AGAINST THE ROPES is an ensemble storyline with several of the previous storyline characters playing supporting and secondary roles. Marianne and Brad (Below the Belt #1) have a strong presence throughout the story, as does Marine Graham who begins to take an interest in Kara-the team’s yoga instructor. The banter and camaraderie between the boxers is friendly; there is a definite support system in place.

The world building continues to focus on the preparation for the upcoming boxing matches, but begins to aggressively turn its’ attention to the investigation into who or what is responsible for the acts of violence and betrayal against the Marine boxing team. I do have an issue with the unreality as it pertains to a lack of security and closed circuit monitors on a Marine base with visible MPs who apparently are not doing their job. The situation is disconcerting under the circumstance and what could very well be terrorist threats at another time seems to be all but ignored by the people in charge-they are quick to blame a PR rep for the trouble and not actively looking into the who, what and why. The situation, as presented, is not believable as it pertains to the investigation and blame.

AGAINST THE ROPES is an entertaining storyline. The premise is engaging with colourful and charismatic characters. The romance is predictable but seductive; the happily ever after has yet to be revealed as the Marine Corps boxing team continues to struggle with threats from an unknown source. There are no active military scenes or sequences; the series focuses on the boxing team and the person(s) responsible for the attacks.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date September 15, 2015

Sometimes faking it is your only option…

Football player Stephen Harrison has hit rock bottom—he’s fresh out of rehab, lost too much weight to be an effective offensive lineman, and has no support system in place. The Bobcats staff suggests he get a life coach to keep him sober and get him back into playing shape, but Stephen says his girlfriend will help. Too bad he doesn’t have one…

Luckily for Stephen, he does have a housekeeper. Margaret has always dreamed of starting her own elite cleaning service, and the money Stephen offers her to play the part of girlfriend is too good to pass up. But while Mags is helping Stephen bulk up and get ready for training camp, she can’t seem to block the feelings crashing into her heart. And one night of passion will pull both of their heads out of the game.

•••••••••••

REVIEW: TAKES TWO TO TACKLE is the third installment in Jeanette Murray’s contemporary, adult SANTA FE BOBCATS erotic romance series focusing on the men and women of the Santa Fe Bobcats professional football team. This is offensive lineman Stephen Harrison, and housekeeper Margaret Logan’s storyline. TAKES TWO TO TACKLE can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from previous storylines is revealed where necessary.

Told from dual third person perspectives TAKES TWO TO TACKLE focuses on Stephen Harrison’s physical and emotional recovery following a three month stint at rehab for alcohol abuse. Without any means of personal support at home, Stephen lies to the Santa Fe Bobcat staff saying his ‘girlfriend’ will aid in his at-home recovery. Enter Margaret Logan-Stephen’s part time housekeeper- and the woman who will steal his heart. Stephen offers Margaret a business arrangement whereby he will double her wages if she pretends to be his live-in girlfriend. There is an expiry date on their ‘faux’ relationship, and with it will come heartbreak and the loss of friendship and love.

TAKES TO TWO TACKLE looks at the long road to recovery as Stephen’s cravings increase with exposure to his ‘drug’ of choice. While the other players enjoy a beer or two with friends, Stephen craves what it is he cannot have.

The relationship between Stephen and Mags begins as employee/employer to friends to something more. Mags (as she likes to be called) is a part time housekeeper for a number of Stephen’s teammates, and in this many of the players and their wives have grown close to the woman that Stephen wants to call his own. The $ex scenes are intimate and seductive.

Many of the previous storyline couples and characters play secondary and supporting roles. We are re-introduced to Cassie and Trey (One Night With a Quarterback #1), and Aileen and Killian (Loving Him Off The Field #2). There is some personal trouble brewing for the Santa Fe Bobcats head coach, and his two youngest daughters will begin to act out accordingly, looking for support from an outside source. Cassie’s friend Anya arrives in time to save Mags from a fashion disaster. Anya and Josiah’s story is next-ROMANCING THE RUNNING BACK.

TAKES TWO TO TACKLE continues to focus on the Santa Fe Bobcats professional football team: the players, the girlfriends and wives, the staff, the media and game day excitement. Jeanette Murray pulls the reader into the locker room, onto the field, and behind the scenes as the players navigate the world of professional sports. We are witness to Stephen’s struggles as he endeavors to regain some of the weight and muscle he has lost, as well as staying sober to maintain his position on the team and a positive direction in life.

Jeanette Murray writes a story about two people with issues of betrayal; personal insecurities; and professional demons. The premise is entertaining with some moments of fun and humor; the characters are likeable, colorful and realistic; the romance is slow to build with a happily ever after.

•••••••••••••••

REVIEW: BELOW THE BELT is the first installment in Jeanette Murray’s new contemporary, adult First to Fight military, romance series focusing on a group of Marine Corps boxers and the women they love. This is First Lieutenant Brad Costa and athletic trainer Marianne Cook’s storyline.

Marianne Cook has been hired as the physical therapist and trainer for the Marine’s new boxing team, and there is an instant chemistry between herself and First Lieutenant Brad Costa. At twenty nine years old Brad is the ‘elder statesman’ amongst the current team of Marines and with it comes some existing injuries that he is a little reluctant to share. As Brad continues to hide the extent of his pain and suffering, Marianne is all too aware that Brad hasn’t been truthful with his coach or his trainer.

The storyline follows two paths: the training, the comaraderie, and building friendships between a group of men thrown together with a common goal-to make the Marine Corps boxing team. Brad has been selected as one of three team leaders, and in this his skills and previous experience bring together the motley crew under his care. Brad and Marianne’s attraction to one another is immediate; Marianne has never before been involved with one of the men; Brad is a dedicated Marine who doesn’t do long term relationships. When our couple hit a rough patch, the Marines get together to push their friends in the right direction. The $ex scenes are intimate, provocative and romantic.

There is a secondary storyline building throughout the novel, one that focuses on a series of harassing threats and destruction of property aimed at the Marine Corps boxers. Reagan Robilard is brought in as the athletic liaison and PR consultant, and it is her job to help with the investigation into the threats and damage. Reagan’s story is next –AGAINST THE ROPES- where the search for the culprit(s) continues.

The colorful and charismatic supporting characters include the coaches, the boxers, family, friends and potential lovers. We are introduced to several Marines whose aim it is to qualify for the team. The developing friendships are amusing, refreshing and supportive. Some will not make the team, while others struggle on a daily basis. Marianne and Brad’s families play a supporting and sometimes humorous role throughout the story-Marianne’s mother is a Marine groupie who loves the attention and flirting with the men. The world building follows the Marine Corps boxing team through their training, determination and after hours play.

BELOW THE BELT is a delightful read with a fascinating and engaging cast of characters. Although BELOW THE BELT focuses on the Marine Corp boxing team we do not see any military action-it is all about the athletes and the competition. Jeanette Murray’s BELOW THE BELT was a delight to read.

Jeanette MurrayJeanette spends her days surrounded by hunky alpha men…at least in her imagination. In real life, she’s a wife and a mother, keeping tabs on her husband of seven years, her four year old daughter (often called Tot) and the family dog, a lovable (but completely stupid) Goldendoodle named Clyde. Hang around long enough and you’re guaranteed to hear at least one or two stories about these three. She and her family currently live just outside of St. Louis.

What’s with the two names? Great question. Jeanette writes for a few different publishers. And due to the timing of some releases, two names just seemed like the right option. But Jeanette can assure you, no matter which pen name you’re reading, you’re going to get sexy contemporary love.

No Mistletoe Required by Jeanette Murray- a review

No Mistletoe Required by Jeanette Murray-a review

NO MISTLETOE REQUIRED by Jeanette Murray

NO MISTLETOE REQUIRED is the November 5, 2012 release by Jeanette Murray. Like most holiday novels, the requisite HEA is not missing from Jeanette’s storyline, but getting there was a bit of a struggle.

Dan Beckins is a divorce lawyer whose view of the holidays has been marred and forever tainted by the automobile accident that killed his parents on Christmas Day so many years ago. When his buddy volunteered them to help with the building of the annual Winter Wonderland display at the hospital Dan was incensed. Geoff knew Dan no longer celebrated the winter festival and the longer he worked on the display, the angrier his friend became until a petite little blond with enough bubbly personality for everyone showed him the true meaning of Christmas.

Anna Smith loved the holidays but there is always a dark cloud hanging over her enjoyment. Stricken with leukemia as a teen, Anna spent almost an entire year at the local hospital undergoing treatment and recovery. As an adult, Anna now gives back with the annual children’s Christmas display and workshop. But with a second cancer diagnosis, Anna was reluctant to get personally involved in a relationship with another man. But the sight of Dan Beckins as he forged ahead with the Christmas display had Anna reconsidering her relationship policy-maybe a one night stand or fling was really what she needed. What she didn’t expect was for Dan to lose his heart to a woman who may not be around to celebrate many more holidays.

The relationship between Dan and Anna is quick to start as Anna knows what she wants and starts to seduce Dan at every opportunity when they are alone. From asking him to help her with the heavy lifting to cornering the man in a cleaning closet, Anna isn’t afraid to go for what she wants-and all Anna thinks she wants is a passionate night of sex with no strings attached. But Dan soon realizes that he has fallen for the spunky no-nonsense woman who had broken his heart. When Anna rejects Dan’s offer of a permanent relationship, Dan’s sorrow will be felt by everyone working, at the hospital, on the Christmas display.

NO MISTLETOE REQUIRED is a short story that brings two broken souls together during one of the most festive times of the year. Dan’s memories of the day his parents were killed has forever jaded his opinion about Christmas Day and Anna’s continuing health struggles force her to take a long hard look at the way she has been treating all potential relationships and friends.

The writing is simple with a few questionable grammar faux pas, but overall the storyline is a sweet look at a Christmas story.
