ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date JUNE 11, 2024

Soul mates born centuries apart. A portal awakens to unite them.

Jaye Ramsey vacations in Bolivia with her friends to prove to her eccentric grandmother that time travel isn’t real. Then she stumbles upon a vortex in the Salar de Uyuni and winds up in Hawksatter, England, 1735—the same town her grandmother had supposedly vanished from as a young woman.

Accused of murdering his bride on their wedding day a decade earlier, Lord Lucas Kenway closed the family farm and shut out the world. He never expected the strange, secretive woman he found sleeping on his doorstep to turn his quiet life upside down—or slip into his bed.

After Jaye discovers a way back to her own time, she’s left with an impossible choice—stay in the past and never see her beloved grandparents again, or return home and lose the only man she’s ever loved.

••••••

REVIEW:Time travelling romance is not my usual go to genre, but pushing myself to read something different.

And I’m glad I did…..

Jaye has grown up with hearing how her grandmother travelled through time. It was put down to an old woman’s flights of fancy. No one really believed the old woman, and to prove her grandmother daydreamed the whole thing, Jaye goes to the town in Bolivia. But the last laugh is on the grandmother’s daughter….. Waking up in a cave, Jaye needs to have her wits about her.

Lucas was accused of murdering his wife on their wedding night…. Closing the family home, he vows no one will ever get close to his heart again!!

300 years in the past, we find Jaye finally believing her grandma’s tales! They were true, but how can she get back to her own time? Does she really want to be stuck here?

Reading the blurb I did get a little confused! Is Jaye a reincarnation of her grandma? How does this time travel work?

But carry on reading and everything becomes clear. It’s a short story so bear in mind that the couple don’t have a lot of pages to fall in love! Can they really overcome all the obstacles that are thrown in their way?

Will Lucas open his heart and believe his lost life has come back? Can Jaye make a life for herself in the past? And if she does, then she’ll never see her family again!

As I said, it’s a short story. But it’s packed full of emotions and events. Really well written and thought out. Apparently it was from an anthology, so it’s be rewritten a little, and there is another story (think it’s her grandmother’s story, but I’m not 100% sure)

I’d recommend this if you’re a lover of time travelling romance.

A quick, fun romance that packs a lifetime in.

ABOUT The BOOK: Release Date: June 26, 2024

I’m the pack reject. The prey.

For years, I’ve kept myself safe from my small pack’s males, hiding in sewers and sleeping in trees to keep their teeth out of my neck. They don’t really want me, just the power and prestige that comes with winning the Hunt. I only want to survive.

In three days, at the Enforcer Games, I’ll have one chance to escape. But when the Games begin, and the most powerful shifters in the world arrive at my packlands and scent me, a new Hunt begins.

They’re the princes of our world. And they’re willing to break the rules to get me.

Pack Reject is the first book in a new paranormal wolf shifter series from Amazon Top 50 and Vella-bestselling author Merri Bright. Fated mates who are driven to reject each other, powerful enemies in unlikely places, and a fierce heroine who will change the world… if she can survive the Hunt.

Please read the content advisories in the Author’s Note. This is a slow burn series where the heroine will not have to choose one mate, if she chooses any at all.

••••••••••

REVIEW: A new author for me to read.

Pack Reject tells a story of a downtrodden female pack member, Florida or Flor as most of the pack call her. The verbal abuse, the way the pack treat her, (if that had been me, I would have curled up and given up years ago!!) just years and years of neglect! But has she given up? Oh hell no!! This is one bada$$, kicka$$ female. She’s managed to outwit/outsmart the males that want “fun” with the reject, the “honour” of claiming her! Becoming Enforcer to the pack means higher up in the pack, so mating Flor is just a means to an end! Realising she needs to leave the pack and find a new one is going to take entering the Enforcer Games. So that’s what she sets out to do….

Enter the heirs to the wolf shifter world! But Flor isn’t aware of who the heirs are at first. And like most male shifters, they are an entitled bunch! I do wonder if Flor doesn’t pick any of them to be her mate/mates. It takes certain characters time and effort to bring Flor around to their way of thinking.

I cheered, I cried, I hissed/booed and threw my kindle throughout this book. And it’s only the first one (my kindle is now hiding under the duvet 😆) Flor has a wicked sense of humour, an acid tongue that spits out fast one-liners. She help but question and disobey at every turn, (it’s probably the only reason she’s still alive!) The action is movie worthy, the story and the characters will have you thinking of it for days to come.

We get different points of view (always nice to hear what other characters think) we get to realise who Flor is to them.

Were the MMC’s going to bond with the same female? (Most books are a why choose genre at the moment) or has they assumed they would mate separately?

There is also a twist (or a small surprise 🤔) which I didn’t see coming, but I thought was a great idea.

Brand/Finnick/Luke/Joaquin and Glen are all in the running to be her mate. There are a few surprises and a sad moment at the end. But for now, they all have a lot of work earning and keeping Flor’s trust. It’s not going to be an easy ride.

There is a cliffhanger. (What a surprise 😝)

There is minimal spice, but the story is soooooo engrossing, I hardly noticed (and too be honest a little refreshing)

I seriously can’t wait to read the next book.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date June 27, 2024

I’m RJ—Robbie Joe, thanks to my mom’s creativity—and I’m a witch.

Well, kind of. I’m still in training.

Magic is like second nature to my sister, Aimee. She’s the golden child, excelling at every spell, acing every test, and just generally being perfect. Me? My magic’s about as predictable as a coin toss.

I never really cared much about it… until now.

Suddenly, our coven is under attack. Witches are losing their powers to an evil we believed to be just legend. Even Aimee falls victim, her magic drained. With so few of us left, it’s up to me and my lackluster powers to save our coven from total extinction.

No pressure, right?

As Aimee and I search for a way to restore the coven’s magic, shocking truths about my past and my true potential come to light. Maybe I’m not a mediocre witch after all. Maybe I’m something special, but the power within me is proving to be dangerous, reckless, and uncontrollable…just like me.

I need to get ahold of my newfound abilities to stop the looming threat to our kind. If I don’t, I won’t only lose everyone I care about, but I’ll lose myself as well.

•••••

REVIEW: Book one in a new series from an author I’ve added to my one-click list.

RJ and Aimee are sisters, but are as different as night and day. Aimee excels at everything she does. whereas poor RJ is a klutz! Her magic is tricky to handle, it doesn’t do what it’s expected of it!

Raised by their overbearing mother, who expects nothing but perfection, it makes RJ’s life hard. As exams approach, RJ knows that her sister will pass easily, her, not so much! Finding a Grimoire has the sisters excited to try some of the spells they find inside. RJ hopes it might stabilise her magic.

A syphoner begins to attack witches. He’s draining the witches of their magic! And it attacks Aimee, who loses her magic!! It’s up to (seemingly the only witch left) RJ to find out who’s behind the witches losing their magic, as well as controlling her magic, and don’t forget her crush on the popular in the academy.

Set in an academy, I’d say it’s more of a YA read rather than adult, which I’ve come to expect from this author. But it doesn’t stop the story from being full of action and just a tad dark.

There is romance, Zane is the popular boy in the academy, and he is interested in her, but why did I get the feeling he’s only playing with her feelings? Has he got some ulterior motive? And I think he has a few secrets (I might be wrong.)

And for RJ’s powers, they might be hit a d miss, but when they work, they surpass and surprise everyone, including RJ. Will she be someone with powers to fear? Or will she be able to vanquish the foe?

Very well written and thought out. Lots of information and the descriptions will have you imagining the scenes pretty clear.

I can’t wait to see where we go next.

Definitely a recommended read from me 👍🏻

••••

REVIEW:I have to admit, this isn’t my usual read. But the blurb sounded pretty interesting.
I definitely got stepford vibes. The perfect lawns, everything in its place…..

Michael and Amelia have moved into what seems like an idyllic setting. Amelia has lots of ideas and is determined to have this house as the next family home… Not even the death of the last owner is going to change her mind!

Multiple points of view to this story made it a little confusing at times, but give it a couple of chapters and you’ll know who is who.
I liked how we got to know each person as an individual, as well as a couple.

The swinging side of the book is covered, but unlike some authors, this one doesn’t harp on or dramatises it. It’s not for everyone, but it seems this little community has it all organised. Or do they? We see cracks in relationships, we see the strain of jealousy and dare I say, discontent in some of the characters. The death of a former swinger put the lifestyle on hold for a while. But once it restarts, you get the feeling it’s not the same as it was!

The secrets are slow to come to the surface, but once they start, it’s like an avalanche! Can Micheal and Amelia navigate it safely? Or will it rock their foundations?

It is a little slow paced for third of the book, but once it picks up, you’re left holding on for the bumpy ride! I felt we could have had more information at the beginning of the book. The last third of the book seemed a little rushed, but maybe that’s just me 🤷🏻‍♀️

That was not what I was expecting. Betrayal/twists/surprises/suspense and a murder to solve. The clues are there, will you guess it right?

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date June 13, 2024

Everyone should learn how to handle a stick.

Atty

High school sweethearts, dream wedding, exotic honeymoon, white picket fence, two and a half kids… that’s the dream. My prescribed future. Except, I don’t want any of that. When me and my on/off girlfriend of fifteen years finally call it quits for good, I decide that I’m ready for a new beginning.

I didn’t expect that new beginning to be a dude.

Toby

This man is perfect… he obeys like a marionette, lets me bend him and choke him until my heart’s content. He lets me dress him up, breed him, and refuse his pleasure as if he were built specifically for my needs.

But Atty isn’t who I thought he was and he’s struggling to find his new identity while I’m freefalling for him off the face of a cliff. I’m not used to needing a safety net in life so there’s a very real chance I’m going to hit the ground like a pancake.

Is love always this tragic?

•••••

REVIEW:Toby is a play acting knight. He puts on a show a couple of times a week, he enjoys it, but his real love is his platform on social media?! He predicts hockey scores, he also does reviews on the players (they aren’t always popular, but they are honest in his opinion) he also likes his s£x a certain way! He makes no apologies and he certainly isn’t looking for long term commitments yet.

Hector Atlas (or Atty to friends and family) is an ice hockey player, not great, but certainly not in any danger of being transferred. He’s stuck in a rut, he’s changed his appearance, stopped dating his on/off girlfriend, but nothing excites him anymore, that is until his friend takes him to a jousting event! And yup, you guessed it…. Eyes meet across an arena… and Toby and Atty end up going home together!!

Is Atty gay? He doesn’t think he is, and when he’s not around Toby he’s sure, and he’s not interested in other men. But when Toby calls, all bets are off! Atty just can’t get enough of this choke holding, throw me around and call me good girl time that he has with Toby!

This one did my head in! 😆 but in a good way. I got a little confused with the “good girl” and “baby girl” I thought I was reading an M/F and then realised this was just Toby and his way.

It’s funny how we give labels to male and female, and then rebel when the labels are turned. But I loved how the author made me think about these labels and how we need to change our way of thinking.

And then it hit me…. It’s Toby… the guy who worked with Vulcan (who I still absolutely adore) he has a story that you need to read (For Your Forever) we see a completely different side to Toby in this book.

Anyway I digress….. Back to Toby and Atty (who I think has come to terms with his sexuality, he’s definitely only gay for Toby) It’s becoming apparent to Toby’s roommates that he’s spending more and more time with just one man, and the same man! Toby is certain it will wear off eventually, he’s not worried.

But when Toby finds out that Atty isn’t gay, and has only ever slept with one man, (that would be him!) it freaks him out a little. He’s also freaked out that he’s sleeping with a hockey player and didn’t recognise him (he’s only ever seen Atty with long fair and a beard!) He’s also aware that Atty is engaged to a woman!!

Atty is beginning to fall for Toby, and that has his slightly concerned. They haven’t talked about being a couple. They haven’t even gone out on a date! His friends and family are still assuming he will go back to his girlfriend at some point!

So where do they go from here? To find that out, you’ll need to read this book.

We also get to see other couples from this series. And possibly new couples that could happen 😉

Still not what i would call a “hockey” story. It’s jam packed with smut 🥵 😜 but I thoroughly enjoyed it. 🤌🏻

Can’t wait to read the next one in this series.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date June 4, 2024

Secret agents are all Jack and his friends ever wanted to be. Spy adventures were the movies they watched, the books they read, even the games they played.

Playtime is over!

Kelly, a political refugee and friend of Jack’s sister is targeted for revenge by the man her father sent to prison. Armed with nothing but heroic courage and skills born from their childhood dreams, Jack and his friends fight a battle against an enemy who will stop at nothing to get what he wants. If Jack is to survive, he and his friends must work as a team and even then, winning comes at a terrible price.

•••

REVIEW: This isn’t my usual read. But I was going on holiday, so I thought I’d try it out….

I did like the profiles of the characters at the front of the book, and I did pop back several times to check them out as they appeared in the book. I also really liked the camaraderie between them.

Phil/Peter/Collin and Jack were a blend of personalities that worked well together. So when Jack finds out that a friend of his sisters is being bullied, he rallies the troops and takes a stand. But you have to wonder if they’ve bitten off more than they can handle? Someone wanting revenge on Kelly’s father (he’d been sent to prison and now they want to settle a score!)

Great characters, well thought out and the plot although a little used, was given a new slant. It’s a teen book, it’s not that dark, but it certainly gave a few authors that write this genre a run for their money. It had something that was childlike, but also quiet grown up, I mean who takes on people that would 💀you and not think twice, and doing this as a teen (ok your a teen until nineteen)

It certainly wasn’t Nancy Drew/ Famous Five and the Secret Seven (all classics in my generation,) now readers want more of an edge and less innocent times!

It’s a YA book, but I’d happily watch this at the cinema (as long as it stayed true to the book.) I could not put it down until the last page. Definitely a book I’d read again on holiday.

It’s a fast paced, action and adventure story. Lots going on, a few twists thrown in for good measure.

Highly recommended if you’re a fan of Percy Jackson/Harry Potter/Inheritance Games. I did think of a younger James Bond at one point 😆

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date May 30, 2024

Five… minutes. That’s how long I was supposed to be there. Get in, get out. Job done.

Four… guns pointed at my head. It wasn’t supposed to go down this way.

Three… years old, and she clung to her mum as we sat huddled together on the floor, chained to the pipes on the wall.

Two… choices, when my time finally came. To let it all play out or fight with everything I had.

One… split second that changed the course of my life… forever.

My name is Tyler Evans. They call me The Thief. But on that day, the last thing I expected to become was the hostage.

•••••

REVIEW:It’s funny how in other stories Tyler comes across as a totally different character. He fades into the background, other voices are louder and stronger. But in this book, Tyler is up front and totally the main character.

If you’re new to the series, it’s totally fine to start here, each book stands on its own, and no need to read any of the previous books. But I can assure you like many of her other fans, you don’t want to miss any of the other stories, and after reading this, you’ll probably want to know how the rest of the soldiers meet their women. 😉

So if you’re new, here’s a quick rundown….

The Soldiers of Anarchy are young men who formed a vigilante group, they had a clear vision of what they wanted to do….. Keep the people of Brinton Manor safe from low life scum who would take advantage of them. People knew where to go, and who to talk to if they needed help. They are always one step ahead of the police, and they are careful never to leave any evidence to tie them to anything suspicious.

I loved how we got to meet young Tyler before he became a loyal brother and soldier. He wasn’t a nice teen, he stole, he lied and he didn’t give a damn about other people…. Not until he meets and witnesses the soldiers brand of justice! Slowly Tyler learns that it’s better to help others, it gave him a sense of purpose.

We also get to meet the love of his life at an early age. But it’s more dislike at first sight rather than love 😆

Jess definitely knew of the young lout Tyler. He’s rude/loud and a thief. She makes it clear that he’s scum and will always be scum. But Jess didn’t have all the facts, and Tyler wasn’t going to put her straight.

Moving to the present day, and Tyler is in the bank minding his own business chatting to a cute mum and daughter. When the unthinkable happens….A bank robbery!!

Tyler thinks of nothing but protecting the cute daughter and mum. Placing himself front and Center, he’s going to do everything he can to take on the robbers! It’s only when the mum starts to protest and ask him to be calm, he realises he’s going to do as she asks. He’s fallen for this cute duo and now it’s all he can think of!!

Jess can’t believe she’s in the queue with Tyler! He doesn’t recognise her, but she sure remembers him, she also remembers how she treated him and all the unkind words she said. But before she can jog his memory, the bank is being held up by masked men!! Her priority is keeping her daughter safe!! She doesn’t need a hero getting himself 💀!!

We spend a fair amount of time in the bank. They really aren’t nice guys, shooting because they can. Making horrible threats and even carrying a few out! And when one of the gang member wants to assault Jess, Tyler just about loses it. Making himself a target to keep Jess safe, is going to get him 💀!!

Revenge and finding out who the bank robbers are, has Tyler scouring the manor. Someone has to know who they are. And he’s not above using violence to get their names. His brothers in arms are willing to help Tyler in anyway he needs. If one needs help then they pull together and get it done.

This is the last book in the series. And it’s sad to say goodbye to Brinton Manor and the soldiers. But the good news is we get to have a book full of previous characters.

There are triggers in the book, please read the warning the author gives you.

I’m sad to see the boys go. But I’m happy that they all get a HEA 💜💜💜

A highly recommended read. Grab the book, grab the series, then grab the spin off series (Sandland)

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date May 27, 2024

A cell phone number triggers a deadly chain of events which pits assassins Matt and John against the enigmatic Anastasiya. She is a vampire who has lived in the shadows for two hundred years and is not about to allow the extermination of her kind by mere mortals.

When a desperate young woman named Faith joins the men, she becomes the key to Anastasiya finding them. The vigilante priest, the ruthless crime boss, the disillusioned PI, the unfaithful trophy wife — each has their part to play as Anastasiya’s hunt moves towards the inevitable deadly showdown.

Hera’s Curse is a blend of crime noir and deconstructed vampire myth unlike anything you will read.

••••

REVIEW:This is definitely not your typical vampire story. A pretty good plot. Good characters and twists that will keep you reading until the last page.

Matt and John are assassins, guns for hire. On the lookout for a target they’ve been assigned. One looks forward to the chase and killing, the other not so much. They’ve been friends for a while, but a rift is beginning to form…..

Faith made one bad choice and now she’s paying for it! But when a lifeline is thrown to her, Faith has to quickly decide to stay where she is (if she does then she won’t be around for much longer 💀) or to go with Matt and John her new heroes and help them find the guy she’s with. (I personally would go with option two.) Deciding on the second option, Faith hopes it doesn’t lead her down an even more dangerous path!!

And Anastasiya our villain of the story, but is she? Being persecuted by humans who feel threatened by her has Anastasiya on edge. Being hunted because of one silly mistake made by one of her progeny, Anastasiya will hunt them. And Faith maybe the key to finding the two killers…..

It has stories coming together from all the different characters, we get to see how they come to this point in their lives, why they are here, and how it’s all going to end!

The ending, although I vaguely saw coming, still surprised me.

But I’m going to be honest, I really struggled getting into the book and it keeping my attention. I usually inhale vampire stories. But this one…. I can’t put my finger on it, it just didn’t flow like the books I usually read.

But that’s not to say it’s a bad book, no it’s not. It’s written well, thought out pretty good, and executed nicely.

The characters felt just a little out of sync with each other and the book. But I could easily distinguish one from another.

A good read if you like a thriller with a noir feeling.

EVOLUTION OF A STORY
By Shaun Griffin

How does an author come up with an idea? How does it evolve? Is there some secret formula? Could a simple algorithm be designed to create our stories? Input some values and, hey presto, your story is done. I suppose to some degree this is happening.
All hail the AI tech wizards of creative oblivion.

The extent to which the art of weaving stories will be successfully mimicked by AI is much debated. There are times I grow despondent at the idea human beings would even think to relinquish their creativity to an algorithm. But then the muse wakes me at three in the morning with an idea and it is something magical. A magic I think AI will never be able to replicate.

This brings me to how I came up with my novel, Hera’s Curse. Although it was not called that in the beginning. It began as a short story called, Compound Vision.

It was 1998. I was driving to work one morning when I passed an old Ford Cortina (for American readers the equivalent would be a 1980s Chevy sedan) travelling well below the speed limit. Two young men, obviously closely related, sat upfront. They stared blankly ahead, blithely unaware of the world around them. The word ‘Hick’ immediately came to mind. Then it occurred to me—what if there was more to these two than met the eye? Rather than the slow-witted individuals they appeared to be, what if they were hitmen? I had this mental image of two brothers in dungarees and hobnailed boots sporting Magnum revolvers.

A few weeks later I was filling up at a gas station when a white minivan pulled up alongside. Seated inside were two prim rows of high school girls. What struck me was that they looked identical—from their immaculate private school uniforms to the blonde hair pulled back in a regulation ponytail. Every school principal’s dream. But what if that conformity hid something far more sinister?

That weekend I wrote a short story about two country bumpkin hitmen hunting a thug named Manny, who has been lured to a boarding house by some young women with the promise of sex. In the men’s search they meet Faith, a runaway who has been forced to work for Manny. She leads them to the boarding house where they discover the vampire women feeding on Manny. The story was told in a tongue-in-cheek style from the perspective of a fly-on-the-wall, hence the title. Everyone who read it remarked that I should expand it into a full-length story.

Work commitments got in the way and the story was shelved. Fifteen years later, I finally sat down to write. I thought about the original story. The characters in it were just caricatures and would not sustain the interest of anyone reading a novel. But where to start?

The first to change were the hitmen. They evolved into Matthew and John, two young men waging a war against drug dealers, though each for different reasons. Next were the young vampire women. Who were they? How did they become? For this story I felt things should be grounded in a plausible reality. Out went the usual tropes. These vampires would be a product of a virus and though enhanced in strength, agility, longevity and so forth, they could be killed like any human.

An infectious disease needs an origin and so the character of Anastasiya was born. Her noble origins and her motivation for creating her cult fell into place easily. It was then that I saw that the main conflict would be between Anastasiya and Faith, the last of my original trio. Mother and Maiden but who to be the Crone? Tammy is my interpretation of this aspect of the Goddess. All that was left was a way of connecting these protagonists. Enter Don Stone, the quintessential PI.

Once I’d completed my first draft, I realised I had the makings of a trilogy. I called it, American Noir. I hope you find the first part, Hera’s Curse, as enjoyable to read as I did to write it.
