As his interest in her case turns deeply personal, he will move heaven and earth to uncover the truth—no matter how shocking—and save the woman he loves.

Review:

The Ghost Illusion by Kat Martin is another one of her wonderful paranormal romance suspense novels. From the start, we meet Dr. Eve St. Clair, our heroine, who has recently moved to England, when her uncle passed away and left the Victorian family house to her.  Eve lived in Boston most of her life, and after a divorce, she made the decision to move.  In the two months she has lived in the house, she has heard noises, such as men whispering, children running on the stairs, and angry man; giving her creepy vibes. Eve does some research to find someone to help her, and calls a Paranormal Investigators group.

Ransom King, is a billionaire, with many successful businesses, and also owns the Paranormal Investigators. Ransom lost his wife and daughter years ago to an accident, and opened up his Paranormal business. When Ransom gets a call from Dr. Eve St. Clair, he understands her panic and fear, and is compelled to help her; he gathers his team, Jesse, Katie, Zane and they arrange to fly to Sunderland, England

Ran and his team determine that there is an evil presence that is haunting her house, which they will need to find a way to identify the entity.  While the team manages to get some vague videos, Eve, who is also a part time psychologist, will recognize a ghost of the past, an imaginary young friend, named Wally. Eve and the team, will try to call Wally, and to get him to move on to the light.  The evil spirit becomes very dangerous, trying to stop Wally and other children from moving on. With Zane doing research at the library, we learn about the Victoria Hall Disaster of 1883 (true story), that almost 200 children were crushed to death during a magic show; and an abandoned orphanage near Eve’s house also had evil spirits and demon. Ran calls a friend and former priest, to help them stop the evil demon.

In a short time, Eve and Ran become very attracted to each other, with a sizzling romance. Ran has strong feelings for Eve, and is determined to keep her safe, especially from the dangerous spirit/demon. But he still can’t move on, always blaming himself for his wife and daughter’s death.

What follows is an intense, exciting, scary, action-packed edge of your seat thriller. I really liked all the main characters, especially Eve and Ran; Jesse, Katie, Zane and Luke were all great.  The Ghost Illusion was a fantastic story from start to finish, and so very well written by Kat Martin.  If you enjoy exciting intense ghost stories, I suggest you read The Ghost Illusion.

REVIEW: My review covers REDEMPTION by Alexandra Ivy and RESCUE:HERO STYLE by Rebecca Zanetti.

REDEMPTION (Pike, Wisconsin 4.5 ) by Alexandra Ivy

REDEMPTION by Alexandra Ivy is a contemporary, adult, romantic suspense thriller set in the author’s Pike, Wisconsin series. This is police officer Tessa Ralston, and SWAT Team member Ian Sullivan’s storyline.

Told from several omniscient third person perspectives REDEMPTION focuses on a cold case wherein, five years earlier, Tessa’s former partner Colt Maddox was killed in the line of duty. Deke Mitchell, the person responsible was still at large but had been seen in contact with his ex-girlfriend in Denver Colorado, and our heroine is determined to take down the man who all but destroyed her life. Ian Sullivan, a member of the Denver SWAT Team, and former co-worker of Tessa Ralston before everything went to h*LL, believes Tessa is the one woman who stole his heart but working together to bring in a killer means up close and personal for our story line couple. What ensues is the rebuilding relationship between Tessa and Ian, and the potential fall-out when secrets and lies reveals a dark betrayal for our story line couple.

REDEMPTION is a story of betrayal and revenge, secrets and lies, second chances and love. The fast paced premise is intriguing and revealing; the romance is subtle; the characters are desperate and determined. We are reintroduced to Rachel and Zach (Unstable 3).

RESCUE: HERO STYLE by Rebecca Zanetti

RESCUE by Rebecca Zanetti is a contemporary, adult, romance suspense thriller focusing on the small town of Redemption Wyoming, the Cattle Club guys, a group of former US Military men, a series of robberies and explosions, and a vindictive thief taking aim at our story line heroine. This is sheriff Caden Scott, and bank teller Ella Riverton’s story line.

Told from several omniscient third person perspectives RESCUE follows in the wake of the return of Sheriff Caden Scott. Caden left Redemption to enter into the race for Governor but never mentioned his plans to the woman he loved. Upon his return, Caden discovers he is going to have to grovel to win back the heart of the woman he loves but Ella wants nothing to do with the man who broke her heart until she finds herself facing down the barrel of a gun, and a man who is demanding more than she is willing to give. What ensues is the rebuilding romance and relationship between Ella and Caden, and the potential fall-out as Ella finds herself a hostage in a bank robbery gone wrong.

RESCUE is a story of second chances, desperation, obsession and forgiveness. The fast paced premise is captivating; the romance is passionate; the characters are energetic and dynamic.

I am not sure if the author has future plans for any of the other characters but the Cattle Club guys are looking for love.

Review:

The Last Goodnight by Kat Martin is the 1st book in her new Blood Ties, The Logans series. We meet Kade Logan, our hero, who runs a ranch in Colorado, and is told by police that the car of his late wife was pulled out of the lake.  Kade’s wife disappeared around 8 years ago, when he assumed she ran off with her lover, as he was also in the process of getting a divorce; her body was discovered a few years later in a shallow grave, and now after the car is found, Kade wants to avenge her death.

Eleanor (Ellie) Bowman, works for Nighthawk Security as a private investigator, and her boss assigns her to go undercover to investigate who killed Kade’s wife.  At first, Kade wasn’t sure he wanted this beautiful young woman to handle the case, but he agrees, especially after the boss explains she is perfect for the job.

Ellie goes undercover as a temporary cook at Kade’s Diamond Bar Ranch to investigate the murder. She begins with learning more about the ranch hands, and the men in town who the wife was involved with.  While she is helping with the cooking, Ellie will start helping Kade & the ranch hands with other things happening that seem to be sabotage; with first two cattle are found dead, then one of the ranch hands is shot, and a mine on Kade’s land explodes. It becomes obvious that someone is out to destroy Kade.  Ellie insists to help Kade on these attacks, and begins to works closely with him to try and find out who is behind the attack and why?

When another woman is found dead in a similar murder to Kade’s wife, Ellie and Kade decide to go to Vail, as both women seemed to spend time there, having affairs.  A suspect in the ranch attacks is murdered, leading them to look closely at the wealthy in Vail, who own the mines.

With all that is happening around them, both Kade and Ellie find themselves attracted to each other; the chemistry between them sizzles and in a short time, they act on their lust. Ellie though knows that despite his feelings, Kade still does not trust other women, knowing what his wife did. He finds himself falling into a jealous rage, when any man talks or smiles at Ellie, which is something he never felt before. Will Kade be able to trust Ellie or will he let her walkaway when the case is over?

Kade and Ellie know that they are close to finding the person behind the attacks on him and the ranch; but danger escalates, as Ellie is now in the sight of a madman.  To say too much more would be spoilers, and you really need to read this book from the start.  I loved Martin’s Maximum Security series, and now I look forward to seeing what Martin has in store for us in this new series. The Last Goodnight was very well written by Kat Martin.   If you enjoy mystery, suspense, murder and a great couple, you should read The Last Goodnight.

But going after the truth means Jessie soon finds herself in the crosshairs of a killer who wants that truth to stay buried with her father.

Protecting Jessie Kegan is a job bodyguard Brandon Garrett can’t refuse. Jessie isn’t just a client at Maximum Security—she’s the sister of his best friend, Danny, killed in Afghanistan. With dangerous forces gunning for Jessie from every angle, keeping her safe will mean keeping her close and Bran finds their mutual attraction growing, though being Danny’s sister puts Jessie out of bounds.

With their backs against the wall, Jessie and Bran will have to risk everything to expose her father’s killer—before his legacy dies with his daughter.

Review:

The Ultimate Betrayal by Kat Martin is the 3rd book in her fantastic Maximum Security series. We meet our heroine, Jessie Kegan at the beginning, when she goes to Maximum Security and asks the help of Brandon Garrett.  Brandon, our hero, was best friends with Jessie’s brother, Danny, who was killed in Afghanistan, as he was also injured.  Brandon promised to always be there for Danny’s sister, if ever she needed help.

Jessie’s father died of a heart attack, after being accused of treason, and sent to jail. Jessie is determined to clear her father’s name, and prove he was framed, as well as murdered.  Brandon drops everything to work with Jessie to find evidence, as well as to become her bodyguard to protect her against attacks by someone who does not want her to continue her research.  They both find themselves under attack a number of times, leaving them to wonder who to trust.  They both made a great team, as Brandon was a former captain in the military, and Jessie is very good investigative journalist.

What follows is an exciting, suspenseful adventure where Brandon and Jessie find themselves in intense and dangerous situations as they get closer to finding those involved with stealing weapons, which also involved terrorists and millions of money being passed.  While working together, both Brandon and Jessie become attracted to each other, and despite their determination not to become involved, best laid plans do not always work out.   Their romance was steamy, and we knew they were both falling love.  But each had their own issue; Brandon worried that he was breaking his promise to Danny by becoming involved with Jessie, and Jessie feared the dangerous life that Brandon did working for Maximum Security.

The last half of the book was not only exciting, edge your seat thriller,  but worrying that our heroes would not survive.  When the evidence begins to point out that someone in the military was involved in the stealing the weapons, selling them to terrorists and framing and killing Colonel Kegan; the attacks against them escalate.  Brandon’s brothers and some other Maximum Security members will help them. It was great to see some of our favorites from previous books.

The Ultimate Betrayal was an intriguing, suspenseful, exciting, action-filled mystery that was also very intense, keeping me on the edge of my seat from start to finish.  The smoldering romance between Brandon and Jessie was perfect, as we rooted hard for them to stay together, despite their issues. Once again, Kat Martin gives us another exciting thriller, as she is one of the best in writing Romance Suspense. If you enjoy action, suspense, romance and intense crime thrillers, you should read anything by Kat Martin.

Description:
When her best friend’s son is kidnapped, private detective Lissa Blayne drops everything to focus on the missing boy. Julie and Lissa have been close for years, so when Julie’s friend Colt Wheeler joins the investigation, Lissa bristles at the former ranger’s take-charge attitude. Lissa doesn’t need a man calling the shots, even if there is something about Colt’s protective side that has her tough exterior melting away. As Lissa and Colt take their search on the road, the tension between them slowly morphs into trust and understanding—and they’ll need both in order to outsmart the dangerous abductor they’re tracking. The only thing hotter than their attraction is the heat of the Mexican sun, but this road trip is no vacation…

Review:

Before Nightfall by Kat Martin is a novella in her Maximum Security series. Lissa Blayne is a private detective for Maximum Security, and when her best friend calls for immediate help, Lissa drops everything to go to her friend.  Lissa’s friend Julie is desperate, as her abusive ex-husband, whom she has not seen in 8 years, kidnaps her 11-year-old son.  Her ex has no interest in the little girl, but he wants his son to train him to be like him.  When Lissa runs into the house, there is another man, whom she mistakes for the ex, only to learn that this man, was a friend of her deceased husband (she remarried.

Colt Wheeler is a former Ranger, who was Liam’s (Julie’s deceased husband) friend, and has always tried to make sure the family was doing well.  When he was traveling to a possible job, he stopped in to visit, just after her ex kidnapped the boy.  Colt is determined to help find the boy, and Lissa is not thrilled that he plans to go with her.  Colt has friends who can help in Mexico, where the ex is heading, since he is part of the cartel.  Lissa knows that she will need help trying to get the boy back alive, especially going against a powerful cartel.  In a short time, they both will begin to feel the attraction they have for each other.

What follows is an exciting, suspenseful adventure where Colt and Lissa find themselves in intense and dangerous situations as they get closer to finding the boy. Even with the help of powerful friends in Mexico, they must deal with not only the cartel, but with the Mexican police who are threatening Lissa and Colt to not interfere with their plan to bring them down.  But Lissa and Colt know they cannot wait any longer, as the boy could be in middle of an attack.

Before Nightfall was an intriguing, action packed, suspenseful, exciting story line that had me on the edge of my seat throughout the book, even though it was a novella.   I also loved Colt and Lissa together, as they made a great couple that we rooted for.  Once again, Kat Martin gives us another exciting thriller. If you enjoy action, suspense, fast paced thriller, and romance, you should read anything by Kat Martin

As the deadly operation puts a target on their backs, they’ll have to decide what matters most: the truth…or their lives.

Review:

The Deception by Kat Martin is the 2nd book in her Maximum Security series. We meet our heroine, Kate Gallagher, when she must identify her sister’s body in the morgue. Kate has not seen her sister for over two years, when she left home at the age of 16, and after viewing the body, she goes to a bar to bury her pain, grieving that she wasn’t there for her sister.  Though she owns her own successful business, Kate is determined to find out who did this to her sister; when the police do not have any clues, she will take matters in her own hands, and hire a private investigator.

Jason Maddox (Hawk), is a bounty hunter, who works for Maximum Security, and when Kate comes to the office trying to hire someone, Jason recognizes her as the hot girl in the bar the night before. He immediately offers his service to help Kate find out the truth, and warns her that from what he sees, this could be drug and sex trafficking related.  Kate wants to find the culprits who murdered her sister, and doesn’t care how dangerous it is.  She also tells Jason that she wants to work with him on the case; something he isn’t too happy about, since it is very dangerous.

The chemistry between Jason and Kate was off the wall steaming hot; though they both try to fight off their attraction to each other and concentrate on the case.  But best plans do not always work out.  They were such a great and sexy couple together.

What follows is an exciting, suspenseful adventure where Jason and Kate find themselves in intense and dangerous situations as they get closer to finding the people behind the murder.  Each discovery may have brought them closer, but they were also stymied as to who killed Chrissy (Kate’s sister).  Some of the Maximum Security team, would come to help Jason, when they expected violence.

The last half of the book was not only exciting, but had us on the edge of our seats, worried that our heroes would not survive.  When the evidence begins to point out that there was another group more deeply involved in the sex trafficking and drugging of young girls, Jason is determined to keep Kate away, for fear of her getting hurt.  Kate was a smart and strong heroine, but she was also stubborn, and determined to kill those responsible.  I did loved Kate and Jason together, and they were an awesome team.

The Deception was an intriguing, suspenseful, exciting story line that was also very intense throughout. The wonderful romance between Jason and Kate was perfect, as we rooted hard for them to stay together, despite Jason belief that his life is too dangerous to be with Kate.   I also liked the secondary characters who make up Maximum Security and look forward to future books showcasing them.  Once again, Kat Martin gives us another exciting thriller. If you enjoy action, suspense, romance and intense crime thrillers, you should read anything by Kat Martin

As the case draws him closer to Harper and deeper into the Winstons’ snarled crime family, he is forced to put everything on the line to keep Harper safe…and both of them alive.

Review:

The Conspiracy by Kat Martin is the first book in her new Maximum Security series. We meet our heroine, Harper Winston, at the start, as she is taking matters in her own hands to search for her missing brother.  She knows he went on a dream vacation sailing in the Caribbean, and after a few days of texting back and forth, he suddenly stopped responding. Harper will then ask someone she hasn’t seen in years, to help her find her brother.

Chase Garrett, our hero,  used to be Harper’s brother Michael’s best friend, until he became frustrated at Michael’s use of drugs and behavior.  Chase also hates the father of Harper and Michael, knowing he is a bad man with shady dealings with drug lords.  Chase owns Maximum Security, and when Harper comes to visit him, he tries to avoid becoming involved, but she convinces him that Michael has changed for the better, and his disappearance is not like him.  Chase agrees to take the case, and despite his misgivings, he gives in to Harper’s insistence to come along.

What follows is an exciting, suspenseful adventure where Chase and Harper find themselves in dangerous situations as they try to find and save Michael.  As evidence begins to point out that Winston’s dealings with the drug cartel has created enemies who are behind Michaels kidnapping, and Chase will need to bring in his cronies and some team members to try and rescue Michael.

The last half of the book returns back to the states, and Harper becomes the one who is in danger, with a lot of tense exciting action.  This will bring Chase and Harper closer together that evolves into a romance.  The danger does escalate, and Maximum Security comes into play to find the people trying to kidnap Harper, as well as bring in help from Winston’s men.

I did like both Chase and Harper together.  Harper was a savvy, tough beautiful heroine, who was determined to be part of case, and her despair at learning the truths about her father’s crime syndicate.  Chase was a great hero, hot, smart, loyal and protective of Harper.   It was cute to see Chase’s initial reaction to seeing his friend’s baby sister, and how she was now a grown and very attractive woman.

The Conspiracy was an intriguing, suspenseful, exciting story line that had me on the edge of my seat throughout the book.   I loved Chase and his brothers, who make up Maximum Security and look forward to future books showcasing them.  Once again, Kat Martin gives us another exciting thriller. If you enjoy action, suspense, romance and intense crime thrillers, you should read anything by Kat Martin.
