THE MAN SHE HATES TO LOVE

Beckett King just inherited his father’s fortune, his company-and all his enemies. If he’s going to stay on top, he needs someone he can trust beside him. And though they’ve been rivals for years, there’s no one he trusts more than Samara Mallick.

The rebel. That’s how Samara has always thought of Beckett. And he’s absolutely living up to his unpredictable ways when he strides into her office and asks for help. She can’t help wondering if it’s a legit request or just a ploy to get her into bed. Not that she’d mind either one. After all, she likes to live on the edge too.

But soon the threats to the King empire are mounting, and the two find family secrets darker than they ever imagined and dangerous enough to get them both killed.

REVIEW: THE LAST KING is the first instalment in Katee Robert’s contemporary, adult THE KINGS erotic, romance series focusing on the King siblings and cousins. This is businessman Beckett King, and Samara Mallick’s story line.

Told from several third person points of view including Beckett and Samara THE LAST KING follows the building relationship between business rivals Beckett King, and Samara Mallick. With the recent, and questionable death of his father Nathaniel King, Beckett King was now CEO of Morningstar Enterprises but a change to his late father’s will found the family owned Villa went to his father’s estranged sister Lydia King- CEO of Kingdom Corp, and a woman whose reputation in the business was as fierce as his father’s. With a bid for a large oil contract on the horizon, Beckett King will come face to face with the woman who has starred in all of his fantasies since their one-night stand six months earlier- Samara Mallick-his aunt’s employee and overly protective assistant. What ensues is the building romance and relationship between Beckett and Samara; and the increasing threats against Beckett King’s life as he begins looking into the events surrounding his father’s demise.

Samara Mallick is good at her job and her earlier hunger to win comes across as cold and malevolent but her attraction to Beckett is complicating her relationship with Lydia King-an attraction that Lydia is determined to use against her grieving nephew. Lydia is a power hungry CEO who will do anything to get back what she thinks she deserves, and gaining control of the Morningstar empire is on the top of the list. Beckett King knows that not all is well with the King family dynamics but his investigation into his father’s death reveals an inside connection that has targeted Beckett himself. Beckett is captivated by Samara Mallick, a captivation that could go horribly wrong, if Samara becomes collateral damage in the family feud.

The relationship between Beckett and Samara is one of immediate attraction; a forbidden romance between competitors in the high-stakes world of oil and finance. Beckett suspects that Samara has become a puppet and a pawn but Samara refuses to be controlled by anyone including the man with whom she is falling in love. The $ex scenes are intimate, erotic, and intense. The chemistry is palpable between our leading couple.

We are introduced to Beckett’s best friend, business owner and security expert Frank Evans, as well as Beckett’s cousins Anderson and Journey (Samara’s best friend), and Beckett’s aunt Lydia King. Journey and Frank’s story line is next.

The world building focuses on the fractured family dynamics of the King family that go back several generations affecting each successive generation in its wake. Jealousy and rivals; infidelity and threats mar relationships that would have been better off never existing.

THE LAST KING is an exciting, suspense filled story of betrayal and vengeance; a broken family cursed by jealousy, hatred and greed but a story that is all too predictable about the who, how and why. The premise is entertaining and engaging; the characters are charismatic, enchanting and intelligent; the romance is seductive and provocative.

Heaven was Samara in a little green dress.
Beckett watched her walk across the lobby, her mile-long legs eating up the distance with ease. That glimpse of wildness she’d given him last night was in full effect today, her hair a mass of black waves that seemed to curl and snap around her shoulders with each step. Her dress fitted her like a second skin, sloping down over her breasts, her stomach, to her hips and thighs.
But it was her dark eyes that drew and held him. Anger and desire and something like guilt lingered there, and she held his gaze as she stopped in front of him. “Do I meet your expectation?”
“You’re beautiful.”
She arched a single eyebrow. “I know.”
That surprised a laugh out of him. Beckett turned to the elevator bank and offered his elbow. The gentlemanly move was over-the-top for their current circumstances, but he couldn’t be this close to her without touching her. Kissing her now, here, was a terrible damn idea, so he’d settle for the small touch. “No false modesty. I like that.”
“I think we’ve established that I don’t operate based on what you like.” Despite her words, amusement pulled at the edges of her lips, and she set her hand carefully on his forearm. “Every time I think I have your number down, you surprise me. Most guys get pissy pants if a woman doesn’t fall at their feet when they call her beautiful.”
“I’m not most guys.” He waited for the elevator door to open and led her onto it. “You can’t fit me into a box and write me off, Samara.”
“I’m beginning to see that.” She shook her head, her hair brushing against his shoulder. “My life would be a whole lot easier if I could.”
He couldn’t argue that, so he didn’t bother. Beckett took them up to the executive level. He noted the way she studied everything, obviously filing away every bit of information she could lay her eyes on. “What does Lydia pay you these days?”
She dropped her arm and stepped back. “Oh no. I don’t think so.” She pointed at him. “We went over this last night. I’m not for sale.”
“It’s an innocent question.”
“It is most definitely not an innocent question.” She looked like she wanted to take off her shoe and throw it at his head. “I don’t care what issue you and your aunt have. I’m not part of it. You don’t get to use me as leverage. I’m not a pawn for either of you to sacrifice in this pissing match you have going on.”
Shame tried to take hold, but he wouldn’t let it. Samara knew the game, no matter how much it apparently offended her. “I’m the bad guy for trying to offer you a job, but I’m sure you agreed to show up here solely out of the goodness of your heart.” He pretended to think about it. “Wait, no you didn’t—which you already admitted. You’re here because Lydia wants to do whatever it takes to sink Morningstar. Full stop.” He motioned at the offices behind him. “Wake up, Samara. I’m only playing the game she made the rules for.”
She took in the empty COO office on the other side of the glass wall. “She poached your employees.”
“Convenient timing, don’t you think?”
“You’re not still harping on that paranoid talk about Lydia meeting Nathaniel.” Samara hesitated and then moved to stand in front of him. She pressed her lips together and then very gently said, “Do you think maybe it’s a good idea for you to talk to someone?”
Beckett jerked back. “What?”
There was nothing but sympathy in her dark eyes. “I’m serious, Beckett. I’ve known you a long time, at least by reputation, and this delusion you have going isn’t like you. Is it possible that Nathaniel’s death is hitting you harder than you realize? That you’re fixating on Lydia instead of your own grief because it’s easier to deal with an enemy than face the fact you can never make things right with your father?”
Every word flayed him, cutting to the quick. Beckett gritted his teeth against the need to tell Samara that she was the one who wasn’t thinking clearly. To yell. To expel some of the ugliness that had been brewing in him for a very, very long time. “I didn’t call you here to offer you a job, and I sure as hell don’t need a shrink.”
She stood her ground as he advanced. Her heels put them at the same height and she still managed to look down her nose at him. “Then why did you call me here?”
Because I can’t spend another moment alone without going out of my mind.
He didn’t say it. To admit how long it had been since he’d felt a connection with another person was to hand Samara—Lydia—a loaded gun and invite her to point it directly at him. He didn’t answer her verbally at all. Beckett cupped her waist and slowly pulled her against him, giving her plenty of time to register his intentions.
“Beckett.” Despair colored her tone and she gave a desperate laugh. “What are we doing?”
“I don’t know.” Using a hand on the small of her back, he pressed her firmly against him. “I don’t want to stop.”
Samara hesitated, but finally placed her hands gingerly against his chest. He waited, letting her decide. Yes or no. Push or pull. Stay or go. She hitched a breath. “I don’t want to stop, either.”

Make Me Want (Make Me #1) by Katee Robert-a review

MAKE ME WANT (Make me #1) by Katee Robert-a review

Amazon.com / Amazon.ca / B&N / KOBO / Chapters Indigo /

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date March 1, 2018

“I want everything.”

She’s taking control. And it’s driving him wild!

Lucy Baudin’s ex did a number on her self-esteem, but it’s time for her to regain control. In her job as a lawyer she’s bold, confident. But in the bedroom she needs inspiration to reawaken her inner seductress. Asking her friend Gideon Novak for help seems wrong…yet so deliciously right!

••••••••••••

REVIEW: MAKE ME WANT is the first instalment in Katee Robert’s contemporary, adult MAKE ME erotic, romance series, part of DARE, Harlequin’s new imprint focusing on strong women and the men they love. This is corporate head hunter Gideon Novak, and attorney Lucy Baudin’s story line.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Lucy and Gideon) MAKE ME WANT follows attorney Lucy Baudin as she becomes desperate in her climb to the top. Up for partnership at the legal firm where she works, Lucy suspects that as a strong, independent single woman she may be overlooked for promotion therefore finding a husband is on the top of her list. Enter her former friend and corporate head hunter Gideon Novak, and the man with whom Lucy will fall in love. While Gideon goes in search of prospective husbands, Lucy has a more personal request of her own-lessons in the art of sexual seduction-from the man himself. What ensues is the building friends to lovers relationship, and the potential fall-out when Gideon realizes he is in too deep.

MAKE ME WANT is an erotic, sexy and edgy story about one woman’s desperate attempts to make partner in the firm, and one man’s need to beg forgiveness for sins of the past. Lucy’s last relationship ended when she discovered the man that she loved was having an affair-a man who was best friend’s with our story line hero. Gideon has always loved Lucy Baudin from afar but lost his chance when his best friend Jeff went in for the kill. Hoping to right a wrong from the past Gideon agrees to help Lucy knowing that in the end, he could lose the woman that he loves.

The relationship between Lucy and Gideon is a friends to lovers romance; second chances of a sort for two people lost in a world of betrayal and hurt. As their lessons in sexual seduction grow more spontaneous and romantic, the predictable is about to happen as Gideon forces himself to walk away believing he is not worthy of our heroine’s love. The $ex scenes are intimate and intense.

We are introduced to Gideon’s partner and friend Roman Bassani, and Lucy’s sister Becka Baudin. Roman’s story line is next in Make Me Crave.

MAKE ME WANT is a predictable story line with a foreseeable fall-out for all concerned. The premise is entertaining; the characters engaging; the romance sexy and hot but I have to question why a powerful attorney would stoop to such an arrangement without considering the possibility of falling in love- the believability is problematic.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date February 6, 2018

When Keira O’Malley was a child, she used to picture her perfect wedding. The flowers. The dress. Her husband. But nothing could have prepared her for saying “I do” to Dmitri Romanov—cold, domineering and always one step ahead of everyone else in the ever-shifting power plays of New York City. She agreed to his bargain to secure peace for her family, and she may want the bastard more than she’d ever admit, but she’ll be damned if she’ll make this marriage easy for him.

Dmitri knows better than to underestimate Keira for one second. Molten desire smolders between them, a dangerous addiction neither can resist. But his enemies are already on the move, and he needs every ounce of his legendary focus and control to keep them alive. Keira could just be his secret weapon—if she doesn’t bring him to his knees first.

•••••••••

REVIEW: THE BASTARD’S BARGAIN is the sixth (and final?) instalment in Katee Robert’s contemporary, adult THE O’MALLEYS erotic, mafia, romantic suspense series focusing on three warring underground families of the Boston’s Irish mob (O’Malleys, Hallorans & Sheridans), the Russian mafia run by the Romanov family, and new contenders for the Boston territory Alethea and Mae Eldridge. This is the head of the New York Russian mob Dimitri Romanov, and youngest O’Malley sibling Keira O’Malley’s story line. THE BASTARD’S BARGAIN can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty but I recommend reading the series in order for backstory and cohesion as there is a continuing theme running throughout, as well as Dimitri and Keira’s story beginning several instalments earlier.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Dimitri and Keira) THE BASTARD’S BARGAIN focuses on the ongoing contemptuous relationship between Dimitri Romanov, and Keira O’Malley. Dimitri has fallen for the youngest O’Malley sibling, a woman whose struggles are evident since the mob murder of her beloved brother months before. Hoping to broker an alliance between families, Dimitri makes Keira an offer she cannot refuse. Now married to the head of the New York Russian mob, Keira will begin a slow ascent to power but not before she must face her demons one day at a time. What ensues is the enemies to friends to lovers romance between Dimitri and Keira, and the potential fall out as the Eldridge family seek gain power over them all.

Throughout the series the warring mobs factions have been at one another’s throats: from death threats, to romantic alliances, the O’Malleys find themselves in bed with their one-time enemies. Dimitri attraction to Keira comes at a time when another family encroaches on the divided territories. Betrayal will place our leading couple in the direct line of fire.

The relationship between Keira and Dimitri is acrimonious at best as Keira battles for control of her life. Dimitri is protective of the woman with whom he will fall in love but the O’Malleys have laid down the law letting Dimitri know that nothing will stop them if Keira comes to harm. The $ex scenes are intimate and intense; there are some scenes of anal play that may not be suitable for all readers.

Once again, there are a large number of secondary and supporting characters including most of the O’Malley clan: Teague and Callista O’Malley (The Marriage Contract #1): James Halloran and Carrigan O’Malley (The Wedding Pact #2); Olivia and Cillian O’Malley (An Indecent Proposal #3) ; hired man Mark Neale; and Charlotte’s father FBI agent John Finch; Mae Eldridge and her daughter Alethea. WE are introduced to Dimitri’s second in command Pavel, as well as members of his security team Mikhail and Alexei; and his cousin Ivan and his wife Natasha.

THE BASTARD’S BARGAIN is a provocative and exhilarating finale to a thrilling series involving several families fighting for control of the Boston and New York areas. The premise is intelligent, spirited and fascinating; the characters are lively, colorful and sassy; the romance is passionate and emotional. THE BASTARD’S BARGAIN is a sensual and suspense filled story of family, betrayal, enemies and love.

The Bastard’s Bargain Excerpt

Dmitri Romanov didn’t permit himself to breathe a sigh of relief. This was only the first step in a path that could potentially span years. It didn’t matter. Keira was here—was his. He had time.
He watched her look around the inside of the town car, cataloging everything with those witchy hazel eyes of hers. The faint scent of pot filled the car, giving evidence to what she’d been up to when he called. The woman was a mess, but he’d known that from the moment he met her. Dmitri didn’t do projects. He preferred to be the one holding all the cards—it allowed him to anticipate how the people around him would act in any given situation.
He’d never been able to anticipate Keira. Not from the moment she picked his pocket and walked away from him as if she didn’t give a fuck about the danger he posed to her.
Likely because she has a goddamn death wish.
He’d deal with that, just like he’d deal with the rest of Keira’s issues. In time.
Right that moment, time was the one thing they didn’t have. Keira’s oldest brother would be returning to Boston within hours, and Dmitri fully intended to marry her before Aiden realized she was gone. It was significantly more difficult to oust a wife than it was a fiancée.
He had Keira now. He wasn’t going to let anyone take her.
She kicked her feet out, propping her chunky black boots on the seat. The long line of her bare legs drew his gaze up to her tiny sleep shorts. They were barely more than underwear, hugging her hips and ass. Her shirt wasn’t much better, for all that it was long-sleeved. It revealed a slice of pale stomach and was fitted enough that he had absolutely no doubts about the fact that Keira wore no bra. Her small breasts pressed against the fabric, and she shivered beneath the weight of his gaze Get control of yourself. He leaned forward and nudged her boots back to the floorboard. Taking Keira was part of the plan—fucking her in the backseat was not. “There’s no need for an adolescent tantrum.”
She laughed, the sound rough and pain filled. “God, would you listen to yourself? You just showed up at my window to lure me into the night—to a chapel—and now you’re bitching about my shoes on the seats? Russian, you have your priorities seriously out of order.” She flicked her long hair off her shoulder. She’d dyed it a harsh blond that seemed designed to highlight how unhealthily skinny she’d become in the last year.
She’s spiraling.
Not anymore.
“Our current situation is no reason to throw propriety out the window.” He sounded stuffy, and he hated it, but with her sitting so close, wearing clothing she’d just been sleeping in…Dmitri dragged in a breath. “Keep your shoes on the floor.”
“Or what?” She turned to face him. The move pulled her shirt even tighter against her chest, revealing the faintest outline of her nipples. Keira saw where his gaze went, and gave a bitter smile. “All the games, all the bullshit, and that hasn’t changed.” She leaned forward and hooked his collar with her finger, drawing him closer despite himself. “Tell me something, Romanov.”
“Hmm?” He dragged his gaze up to her mouth. The wicked curve of her lips was matched only by the words she threw into the space between them with such abandon. The woman wouldn’t know caution if it slapped her in the face.
“You’re dragging me to your cave to be your Bride of Frankenstein.” She shifted closer, her bare leg sliding over his slacks until her thigh came into contact with his cock.
He should move her. Set her back and explain that no matter what she thought of the situation, she wasn’t in control. But the ring he’d put on her finger winked at him, a reminder that Keira wasn’t the sister of his enemy anymore. She was his.
Or she would be in a few short hours.
He bracketed her thigh with a hand, keeping her in place, but didn’t touch her anywhere else. There was no masking his reaction to her, not in their position. Dmitri didn’t bother trying. “Calling me Frankenstein is more than a bit dramatic.”
She looked up at him, her eyes holding a question he didn’t have a satisfying answer to. “I think it’s time to stop being in denial, don’t you?”
He recognized the direction she was headed. “You know I want you. I wouldn’t be doing this if I didn’t.”
Just like that, the shutters slammed down on her expression. She sat back and he let her go, watching her pull herself together. Her spine went ramrod straight, and she stared at the back of the driver’s head rather than at Dmitri. She crossed her arms over her chest. “No lies between us. That’s what you said. You want me, sure, but don’t pretend any of this bullshit has to do with sex. You need to prove what an international badass you are by marrying the sister of your enemy. An eye for an eye—a wife and a sister. Remember?”
He knew exactly what she was quoting. The note he’d had delivered to Aiden O’Malley just over a year ago. By my count, you owe me both a wife and a sister. I’ll be content with one of yours. He hadn’t realized Keira had seen it.
Twin possibilities spun out between them. She was scared and vulnerable, and if he told her that it was her he wanted and not what she represented, she would believe him. It would even be the truth, at least in part. He hadn’t been able to get Keira out of his head from the moment he met her, and he’d manipulated events to ensure they reached this exact moment. Telling her that wasn’t telling her the full truth, though. This wasn’t some great love story where he’d been pining for her while her family kept them apart. Dmitri wanted her, yes. He craved the feeling of her body beneath his hands, her taste on his tongue, and her smart mouth around his cock.
But his craving her had no real relevance in the grand scheme of things. He needed one of the O’Malley daughters to regain his status after the blows the family had dealt him over the last two years. Keira was the only option left.
Liar.
It didn’t matter what the truth was, full or otherwise. What mattered was ensuring Keira toed the line. He sat back, trying to ignore the throbbing of his cock, and studied her. “You knew what this was when you climbed out your window and stepped between me and your brother.”
She finally met his gaze, her hazel eyes fiery in their defiance. “Yes, I did.”

REVIEW: UNDERCOVER ATTRACTION by Katee Robert is the fifth instalment in the author’s contemporary, adult THE O’MALLEYS erotic, mafia, romantic suspense series focusing on three warring underground families of the Boston’s Irish mob (O’Malleys, Hallorans & Sheridans), the Russian mafia run by the Romanov family, and new contenders for the Boston territory Alethea and Mae Eldridge. This is the head of the O’Malley clan Aiden O’Malley, and former police officer Charlotte ‘Charlie’ Finch’s story line. UNDERCOVER ATTRACTION can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty but I recommend reading the series in order for backstory and cohesion as there is a continuing theme running throughout.

Told from several third person perspectives including Aiden and Charlie UNDERCOVER ATTRACTION follows the fake engagement /fiancée trope between former police officer Charlotte Finch, and the acting head of the O’Malley family Aiden O’Malley. Charlotte Finch knows pain, and the fall out of coming clean to the people in charge but vengeance against Dimitri Romanov of the Boston Russian mob has our heroine agreeing to play ‘fiancee’ to the alpha leader of the O’Malley clan. While Aiden appears to disregard his family’s advice, our hero struggles to set into motion a plan to take down everyone threatening the people he loves and management of the territory the family controls. What ensues is the building love and relationship between Aiden and Charlie, and the potential fall out when Charlie is taken hostage by the new players in town.

UNERCOVER ATTRACTION follows several paths including the fractured dynamics of a once proud and controlling Boston mafia family. The inter-family pairings finds allegiances changing but love for one another causes rifts in an already crumbling foundation. Aiden’s announcement of a quick engagement threatens the ever-changing O’Malley control but our hero keeps secret the truth behind his hasty involvement with the woman that will soon call to his heart.

There are a large number of secondary and supporting characters including most of the O’Malley clan: Teague and Callista O’Malley (The Marriage Contract #1): James Halloran and Carrigan O’Malley (The Wedding Pact #2); Olivia and Cillian O’Malley (An Indecent Proposal #3) and their long, suffering sister Keira O’Malley who struggles with demons of her own; Russian mobster Dimitri Romanov whose need to seek vengeance against the O’Malley and Halloran clans quickly shifts as the Edridges seek to destroy them all; hired men Mark and Liam Neale; Charlotte’s father FBI agent John Finch; and the return of the O’Malley patriarch Seamus O’Malley and his wife. Keira and Dimitri’s story is next in The Bastard’s Bargain.

UNDERCOVER ATTRACTION is a story of suspense, family, revenge and love. The premise is intriguing, captivating and engaging; the romance is seductive, erotic and intense; the characters are expressive, charismatic and compelling. UNDERCOVER ATTRACTION looks at the tight knit families of the Boston mob, and the power they exert over the people they love.

About the author

Katee RobertsNew York Times and USA Today bestselling author, Katee Robert, learned to tell stories at her grandpa’s knee. Her favorites then were the rather epic adventures of The Three Bears, but at age twelve she discovered romance novels and never looked back.

Though she dabbled in writing, life got in the way—as it often does—and she spent a few years traveling, living in both Philadelphia and Germany. In between traveling and raising her two wee ones, she had the crazy idea that she’d like to write a book and try to get published.

Her first novel was an epic fantasy that, God willing, will never see the light of day. From there, she dabbled in YA and horror, before finally finding speculative romance. Because, really, who wouldn’t want to write entire books about the smoking-hot relationships between two people?

She now spends her time—when not lost in Far Reach worlds—playing imaginary games with her wee ones, writing, ogling men, and planning for the inevitable zombie apocalypse.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date July 25, 2017

For two FBI agents with a past, love becomes a matter of life and death in the new Hidden Sins novel from New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Katee Robert.

Maggie Gaines used to be an FBI agent—top of her class and one of the bright, up-and-coming stars—until she spectacularly fell apart during her first high-profile case. That was eight years ago. Now she’s a ranger at Glacier National Park, and she’s found some measure of peace. But when the body of a murdered woman is discovered, she must finally put the past behind her and work with the one man she thought she’d never see again.

For months, Vic Sutherland has been hunting a killer who’s been targeting unsuspecting hikers in national parks—and now the predator has come to Glacier. Vic knows the case will bring him face-to-face with his former partner, yet nothing can prepare him for seeing Maggie again after all these years, or for the memories of passion it stirs in both of them.

As the investigation brings them closer together—and closer to the killer—Maggie and Vic fear they have only each other to trust. But even that might not be enough to make it out of Glacier alive.

REVIEW: THE HUNTING GROUNDS is the second installment in Katee Robert’s contemporary, adult HIDDEN SINS murder/mystery, romantic suspense series. This is FBI agent Vic Sutherland, and former FBI agent and park ranger Maggie Gaines’s story line. THE HUNTING GROUNDS can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story line is revealed where necessary. Vic Sutherland, and his boss at the FBI Britton Washburne were first introduced in book one THE DEVIL’S DAUGHTER.

Told from several third person points of view including Maggie and Vic, with flashbacks to the past THE HUNTING GROUNDS focuses on the search for a killer who is targeting hikers at various National Parks. When the most recent victim(s) is discovered in Glacier National Park park ranger Maggie Gaines comes face to face with her past-FBI BAU (Behavioral Analysis Unit) specialist Vic Sutherland-her former partner and the man with whom she had fallen in love. What ensues is the search for a killer, as Maggie and Vic analyze the path of jealousy and revenge.

THE HUNTING GROUNDS is a story of mystery, murder, suspense and retribution. As the number of victims grows, Vic and Maggie begin to break down the potential who and why of the killer’s murder spree.

The relationship between Maggie and Vic is one of mutual attraction but seven years earlier Vic Sutherland was a married man, and our heroine walked away from a career in the BAU when her first case went all to h*ll. Their attraction for one another has never waivered, and Maggie and Vic are wiling to reclaim what was lost years before.

There is a large ensemble cast of secondary and supporting characters including the head of the BAU Britton Washburne, Vic’s FBI partner Tucker Kendrick, park ranger Ava Boyle, seasonal ranger David Downey, coroner Dr. Katherine Huxley, and Maggie’s current boss Wyatt Thornton. There are also a large number of hikers who become targets for a psychopath h*ll bent for fury in the name of betrayal and revenge.

The superb and detailed world building focuses on the sights and sounds of life on the trails; the geography of Glacier National Park; and the search for a killer who will not stop until everyone is gone.

THE HUNTING GROUNDS does not focus so much on the romance aspect of the leading couple but focuses more on the hunt for a killer so I hazard to label THE HUNTING GROUNDS a true romantic suspense. The relationship between Maggie and Vic is a little more than a bi-product of working together but a relationship that has the potential to resume when all is said and done. The premise is intriguing but predictable although the killer’s motivation needed a more thorough explanation; the romance is limited and secondary to the overall story line; the leading characters are reserved and fell a little flat. THE HUNTING GROUNDS by Katee Robert is an imaginative tale of murder, suspense and revenge.

Vic’s gaze fell on his phone. Maggie’s number was now in the contacts folder. It would be easy to dial it, just to check on her.
Except it was late, and she hadn’t asked for him to babysit her.
He’d gone years without seeing her, and now that they were in the same general area, it was like they were two magnets that could barely resist the pull. He wanted to hear her voice, to sit her down and share a meal that wasn’t military issue, to actually talk.
His phone rang, which startled him so much he almost dropped it. Vic stared at the screen for several precious seconds, wondering if he was more tired than he’d thought, because it sure as fuck looked like Maggie was calling him. “Sutherland.”
“It’s me.”
He sat on the edge of the bed, suddenly painfully aware that he wore only a towel. It shouldn’t matter. She couldn’t see him, didn’t know what he was or wasn’t wearing, but it did matter. “Hey, Maggie.”
“I have to apologize.” He could almost feel her soft sigh. “You were right, and I was acting like a stubborn kid. This whole thing—the murders in the park and having to deal with my past and you—has got me all twisted up.”
Maybe it was the events of the last two days, but he was so goddamn tired of doing the noble thing. He never put himself or his personal shit before a case. Not once.
He’d never wanted to before.
“I twist you up?”
“As if you didn’t know. I had something of a crush on you when we were partners—which I’m sure you knew after I threw myself at you—and apparently I didn’t outgrow it as much as I thought.”
The dimness of the room evoked an intimacy he didn’t deserve. Was Maggie sitting in her bedroom in low light, too? He liked the picture that made. “You have nothing to apologize for.”
“I’ve been making an ass of myself since you stepped off that helicopter.” She shifted, the sound painfully loud in the near silence. “And I’m doing it again, apparently. My whole point was that I’m sorry and I’ll be professional from now on. You don’t have to worry about any breakdowns or hissy fits.”
If he was smart, he’d take her apology for what it was and allow it to move them back to solid ground. There were lives on the line and a condensed timeline that was only going to get more condensed with each body that popped up.
But when Vic spoke, he didn’t move them back to firm ground. He threw them right over the edge of the cliff. “Fuck being professional. I want you, Maggie. Not the former FBI agent. Not the park ranger. I want you.”

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date January 24, 2017

Growing up in a small town isn’t easy, especially when you’re the daughter of a local cult leader. Ten years ago, Eden Collins left Clear Springs, Montana, and never once looked back. But when the bodies of murdered young women surface, their corpses violated and marked with tattoos worn by her mother’s followers, Eden, now an FBI agent, can’t turn a blind eye. To catch the killer, she’s going to have to return to the fold.

Sheriff Zach Owens isn’t comfortable putting Eden in danger, even if she is an elite agent. And he certainly wasn’t expecting to be so attracted to her. As calm and cool as she appears, he knows this can’t be a happy homecoming. Zach wants to protect her—from her mother, the cult, and the evil that lurks behind its locked gates. But Eden is his only key to the tight-lipped group, and she may just be closer to the killer than either one of them suspects.

REVIEW: THE DEVIL’S DAUGHTER is the first installment in Katee Robert’s contemporary, adult HIDDEN SINS romantic suspense crime series. This is FBI agent Eden Collins, and Clear Springs, Montana sheriff and former Marine Zach Owens’s story line.

Told from several third person points of view THE DEVIL’S DAUGHTER focuses on a serial killer with possible links to a local Clear Springs cult known as Elysia, and their leader Martha Collins. With one girl missing, and another found dead sheriff Zach Owens struggles with a lack of DNA, clues and access to the Elysia compound. Enter FBI agent Eden Collins, the prodigal daughter of Elysia’s founder Martha Collins, and a potential victim given the nature of the crimes and the belief system of Martha’s followers. What ensues is the search for clues as the who, what and why, as Eden’s attempts to retrieve information from a compound she once called home.

Ten years earlier, Eden Collins left Clear Springs, Montana and the Elysia compound behind hoping never to return but a familiar tattoo and a series of ‘ritualistic markings’ brings Eden back home to a town frightened by the Elysia cult. Sheriff Zach Owens had hoped not to call in the FBI but Eden’s appearance coincides with the missing and murdered girls leaving our heroine the number one suspect early in the investigation.

The relationship between Eden and Zach is one of mutual attraction but Eden has no desire to lose her heart to someone back home. The romance is limited as the majority of the story line focuses on the search for the missing girls, and the clues that lead back to the Elysia compound.

There is a large ensemble cast of secondary and supporting characters including FBI agents Vic and Britton: local law enforcement and Sheriff’s deputy Chase, coroner William Reynolds, and several members of the Elysia cult. We are introduced to Eden’s mother and the leader of the cult Martha Collins, as well as her inner circle –Lee, Joseph and Abram, Beth and Jon.

THE DEVIL’S DAUGHTER is a story line that ventures into Greek mythology-Demeter and Persephone- and the cult-like belief system of one woman and her tight knit band of followers. The premise is intriguing and suspenseful; the final reveal is surprising; the characters are colorful and captivating; the HEA is open ended.

excerpt

“This is stupid. Get out of the car. Get out of the car right now.”
She threw her body into motion, half-afraid that if she didn’t force herself to move, she’d sit there until someone decided to report her for being creepy. Who am I kidding? The people in this place are just as likely to knock on the window and ask me if I need any help.
The fall air had a little bite to it, and she closed her eyes and inhaled deeply. Home.
No. It’s not home. It’ll never be home again.
She’d made a life for herself in the FBI, and if she didn’t have much in the way of roots . . . Well, she’d left the possibility of roots behind when she left Clear Springs. Most days it didn’t even bother her that much. She was doing good in the world, using her nontraditional childhood to give her an edge that had helped her make a name for herself over the last six years in the cult division. She was Eden Collins, FBI agent. She wasn’t that scared little girl. Not anymore.
One step at a time, she made her way into the police station. She’d half expected it to be a whirl of motion, with people rushing here and there, trying to come to terms with the fact that death had touched their small town. But there was no one in the room except a man sitting behind the desk in the corner, glaring at the phone on his desk.
Zach Owens.
The golden boy of Clear Springs in every sense. His blond hair was still cropped short, hearkening back to his days as a marine, and his body was obviously well taken care of. This wasn’t a man who’d let his years working in a sleepy little town turn him soft.
While Zach took her in, she conducted her own perusal. She’d never met him personally, but she knew him by reputation and pieces of information stolen via eavesdropping. He’d gone off to war a boy and come back a man with shadows in his eyes. Or maybe she was just seeing him with rose-tinted glasses, the tragic figure representing everything she’d never have. Acceptance. Loyalty. The love of the people here.
Something like jealousy curled through her stomach. It was silly and childish and she was better than that, but it was hard not to resent someone who so obviously fit. Eden had done a bit of traveling since she’d turned eighteen and run as far and fast as she could from her mother, but she’d never found a place that was well and truly hers.
He caught sight of her and narrowed his eyes. “Can I help you?”
Being pinned in place by those blue eyes made her second-guess the intelligence of her plan yet again. It didn’t matter. He needed her help, even if he didn’t know it yet. She stepped forward. “I’m here about the body.”

ABOUT THE BOOK: RELEASE DATE October 3, 3016

It’s been thirteen years since Hope Moore left Devil’s Falls, land of sexy cowboys and bad memories. Back for the weekend, she has no intention of seeing the man she never got over…or the two of them getting down and dirty. It’s just a belated goodbye, right? No harm, no foul.

Until six weeks later, when her pregnancy test comes back positive…

Daniel Rodriguez hasn’t forgiven himself for how things went down with Hope all those years ago. He knows she’s better off without him, but when she shows up on his doorstep, panicking because she’s pregnant with his baby, he can’t help seeing it as a chance to make up for the past.

Too bad Hope has no intention of going along with his plans.

•••••••••••

REVIEW: A FOOL FOR YOU is the third and final installment in Katee Robert’s contemporary, adult FOOLPROOF LOVE romance series focusing on the people of Devil’s Falls. This is Hope Moore, and Daniel Rodriguez’s story line. A FOOL FOR YOU can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Hope and Daniel) A FOOL FOR YOU is a second chance romance between two people whose lives were destroyed thirteen years earlier and in the ensuing time Daniel Rodriguez walked away from the woman he loved to wallow in self-pity and guilt for an accident that wasn’t his fault. For thirteen years our hero has never forgiven himself for that fateful day but with his guilt comes the knowledge that he let go of the only woman he has ever loved. When Hope returns to Devil’s Falls Daniel is unable to walk away and our couple pick up immediately where they left off years before.

Hope Moore is a strong, independent woman whose life changed thirteen years earlier; a woman who had to make some major sacrifices but in the end became a success at what she chose to do. Daniel is a man whose guilt has affected every aspect of his life to the point he has closed himself off from family and friends-thirteen years is a long time to immerse oneself into the depths of despair and remorse.

The relationship is a second chance; a rekindling of old feelings that have never died; where passion gives way to a one night stand that results in an unplanned pregnancy and a renewed future. But not everyone is happy with the couple’s reunion including Hope’s parents who have some thoughts about the man who has reentered their daughter’s life. The $ex scenes are intimate and intense.

All of the previous story line couples play secondary and supporting roles: Aubry and Quinn (Fool Me Once 2), and Adam and Jules (Foolproof Love 1).

A FOOL FOR YOU is the culmination of three stories where one accident sent three friends (and family) in different directions all to return home to Devil’s Falls where love is the balm to their broken souls. The premise is entertaining; the characters are colorful; the romance is hot and heavy.

I did have a couple of issues: the ending; the quick resolution that was too abrupt and kind of left me hanging-the story line needed an epilogue or at the very least a look into the future. And the characters felt like they were going through the motions; that $ex was the commonality between Hope and Daniel but there wasn’t much else- in my humble opinion.

He turned to find Hope standing behind him. Again. “You sure move quiet when you want to.” Especially for a woman with a bum leg. Not that he could say as much without sounding like a jackass.
“You mean since I had my knee replaced.” Of course she knew what he meant anyway. Apparently damn near reading his mind was one annoying habit she hadn’t outgrown.
“I didn’t say that.”
“You didn’t have to.” She leveraged herself down next to him, the move not quiet as smooth as it’d been when she was eighteen.
Daniel almost cursed. He had to stop doing that. Comparing her now to how she was then wasn’t fair to either of them. It was another lifetime completely, and thinking about it was just fucking depressing. “Hope—”
“Are you seeing anyone?”
“No.”
“Why not?”
He was so surprised by the question that he answered honestly, “Why the fuck would I bother?”
“Oh, I don’t know, because you don’t want to be a creepy old man who lives in the middle of nowhere and has to run off silly high school kids with his shotgun because they tell ghost stories about him?”
He looked at her, half sure that she was the one who’d lost her damn mind. “That’s not a thing.”
“It is most definitely a thing.” She leaned back on her hands and stared at the sky. The most move arched her back and pressed her breasts against the fancy tank top she wore. It was made of some kind of drapey fabric that looked soft and shiny, and it highlighted the fact that he seriously doubted she was wearing a bra. “You’re too young to just give up.”
“It’s not about giving up.” Though he didn’t expect Hope to understand that. He’d checked up on her a few times since the accident, and every single time he was amazed at the things she’d accomplished. Life had kicked her in the teeth and she’d come back swinging. She’d taken two years off and then attended the University of Texas and graduated with honors. She ran her own successful consulting business to work with companies that wanted to set up scholarships and nonprofits.
She shifted to look at him. “It looks like giving up from where I’m sitting.”

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date August 30, 2016

Greed. Ambition. Violence. Those are the “values” Olivia Rashidi learned from her Russian mob family-and the values she must leave behind for the sake of her daughter. When she meets Cillian O’Malley, she recognizes the red flag of his family name . . . yet she still can’t stop herself from seeing the smoldering, tortured man. To save her family, Olivia sets out to discover Cillian’s own secrets, but the real revelation is how fast-and how hard-she’s falling for him.

Plagued by a violent past, Cillian is more vulnerable than anyone realizes. Anyone except Olivia, whose beauty, compassion, and pride have him at “hello,” even if she’s more inclined to say good-bye to an O’Malley. While his proposal of sex with no strings seems simple, what he feels for her isn’t, especially after he learns that she belongs to a rival crime family. Cillian knows that there is no escape from the life, but Olivia may be worth trying-and dying-for .

••••••••••

REVIEW: AN INDECENT PROPOSAL is the third installment in Katee Robert’s contemporary, adult THE O’MALLEY’S erotic, romantic suspense series focusing on three warring underground families of Boston’s Irish mob, and the Russian mafia run by the Romanov family. This is Cillian O’Malley, and single mother/bartender Olivia Rashidi’s story line. AN INDECENT PROPOSAL can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty but I recommend reading the series in order for backstory and history between the characters.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Cillian and Olivia) AN INDECENT PROPOSAL focuses on the forbidden relationship between bad boy Cillian O’Malley-the O’Malley clan prodigal son, and Olivia Rashidi-the half sister of Dimitri Romanov-the man in charge of the Russian mob. Olivia is on the run; a single mother to an eighteen month old child, whose father is a member of the Russian mob. When the Romanov family demand Olivia return to the family fold, our heroine seeks out Cillian O’Malley-the man who currently warms her bed, and a man whose history with the Romanov family is fueled by deceit and death. What ensues are Cillian’s attempts to protect the woman with whom he is falling in love, and the search for the people skimming from the O’Malley funds.

The relationship between Cillian and Olivia is one of forbidden romance between two families of the Boston mobs. The O’Malleys are still grieving the murder of Devlin O’Malley, and none more so than Cillian who takes the death more personally than the others. Olivia is a woman determined to protect her young daughter from a father whose life in the Russian mob is dark and dangerous, but in doing so jumps from the proverbial frying pan into the fire when she is dependent upon the Irish mob for protection. The $ex scenes are intimate and provocative.

There is a large ensemble cast of secondary and supporting characters including most of the members of the O’Malley clan and the men who work for the family. We are reintroduced to Dimitri Romanov-Olivia’s half brother-and learn about some of Olivia’s history with the family who wanted nothing to do with her when she was young.

The world building focuses on the fractured relationship between the Irish mafia and the Russian mob. Cillian and Olivia’s romance should have brought the two sides together but too much bad blood has passed to make things right.

AN INDECENT PROPOSAL is a fast paced, intriguing story with deceit and betrayal; heartbreak and family; grief and retribution; falling in love and letting go of the past. The premise is imaginative and intoxicating. The characters are passionate and intense; the romance is forbidden but dynamic. Katee Robert’s THE O’MALLEYS is an engaging, wonderful and thrilling romantic suspense series focusing on power, control , and the families of the Boston Irish and Russian mobs.

“Thanks.” There it was again, that look that threatened to curl her toes. He reached out and took the washcloth from her and tossed it onto the nightstand. “I’m going to kiss you now.”
She should object, move away, do something other than rest her hands on the top of his thighs and tilt her head up. Stupid, stupid, stupid. Didn’t the last few years teach you anything? Apparently not, because she wanted Cillian to kiss her again, and she wanted him to kiss her now.
Truth be told, she wanted him to do a whole lot more than that.
Olivia licked her lips. “Okay.”
His lips quirked up at the edges. “I can see I’m blowing your socks off. Let’s see if I can do better.” He cupped her face with one hand and then his mouth was on hers, soft and teasing, testing—nothing like the forceful kiss that started everything last night. She opened for him immediately, driven by the lightning dancing just beneath her skin. She wished she could blame it on being skin-starved, but the truth was that this man was doing more with a near-innocent kiss than Sergei had ever done with his entire body and hours at his disposal. I am in so much trouble.
Then Cillian’s tongue stroked hers and she was lost. She gripped his thighs as he explored her mouth, giving herself permission to do some exploring of her own. He was all lean muscle, as if he’d been melted down and stuck in a forge, only to come out new. She ran her hands up his legs, stopping just short of his hips.
He took it from there. He ran his fingers through her hair and down her back, inching her closer until there was nothing more than a breath of distance between them. It would have been so damn easy to lean forward and touch him, pressing her body against his, but the separation was almost unbearably erotic. She shivered again, tilting her head back to give him better access.
She’d never been kissed like this, like she was something to be savored…valued. Like he had all the time in the world and he’d still never get enough.
Common sense tried to rear up and remind her that it was a goddamn kiss, not a lifetime commitment, but then his thumb feathered across the underside of her breast, and all rational reasoning flew right out the window.
He rested his forehead against hers, and groaned. “You’re making it hard to be good, sweetheart.”
