REVIEW: DARKNESS AWAKENED is the introductory storyline in Katie Reus’s new paranormal adult series-Darkness. This is Finn Stavros (Alpha wolf shifter) and Lyra Marius’s (pureblood vampire) story and one that began seventeen years earlier.

Darkness Awakened is a story about forbidden love and second chances for two people from different species that have more in common than anyone could have known. It has been close to seventeen years since Lyra was pushed away by the only man she has ever loved and the hurt has only increased in the ensuing years. But Finn knew that to enter into a permanent relationship with a vampire could bring about her death at the hands of his then pack alpha and uncle. To protect Lyra, Finn walked away without explanation and Lyra suffered additional rejection when her vampire coven threw her out.

The relationship and attraction between Lyra and Finn is one that has never waivered in all of their years of separation. Finn has always known that Lyra was his mate but her subsequent disappearance left Finn wondering what had truly happened to the woman he had loved.

The premise to the storyline follows the approach of Samhain and the eclipse. A powerful vampire intends to open a portal to Hell and Lyra’s daughter has the perfect blood. When Vega goes missing, Lyra begs Finn for his aid and in the end, the truth about Vega’s true heritage will be revealed to all.

Katie introduces a cast of secondary characters from pack and coven members to a long forgotten species that is larger than life. When the portal to Hell opens, it will take a tentative peace between shifters and vampires to ensure that the world in which they both live is safe for everyone. The reader is pulled into a world where the paranormal is real and the lives of everyone are threatened when a vampire takes control of a young woman whose only sin was to go looking for the father she never knew.

REVIEW: TARGETED is the first storyline in Katie Reus’s new contemporary, suspense Deadly Ops series that introduces the former marines and military personnel currently working for the NSA.

Jack Stone is a former Marine sniper and a man with a secret past. His latest undercover assignment is to infiltrate the South Beach Medical Supply (SBMS) company and uncover the connections to a multi-billion dollar drug cartel and arms dealer. And the assignment becomes personal when he is forced to work alongside SBMS employee Sophie Moreno – the very woman who owns him-heart and soul.

TARGETED is a storyline that pulls the reader into a non-stop, action packed adventure where two would-be strangers have much more in common than uncovering the truth. On the run throughout most of the novel, Sophie and Jack’s attraction to one another will become a definite hazard as Jack’s need to protect Sophie is a distraction they do not need.

Katie introduces several secondary characters including Levi, a former friend and missing member of the NSA. Levi’s story is building and you know that Katie has plans on the horizon for Levi. Levi is a man whose life has been destroyed and he is on the hunt for the person or people responsible.

There is plenty of backstory that allows the reader a deeper understanding into Sophie and Jack’s pasts although there is a major gap in the earlier years after Sophie turns away from the only man she has ever loved. It would have added a deeper understanding to the events that occurred in the backstory and history that was only revealed towards the end of the novel.

Katie Reus pulls the reader into a storyline of second chances, betrayal and the truth about forgotten lives and hidden pasts. Sometimes the heart knows where it belongs and a second chance at love is only the beginning.

REVIEW: FIRST SURRENDER is the first storyline in the Red Stone Security (RSS) spinoff series The Serafina: Sin City by Katie Reus. By way of connection, Katie has spun off the series with Wyatt and Iris Christiansen from book six (Breaking Her Rules) in her RSS series thus giving the series a sense familiarity. Wyatt owns The Serafina Hotel and Iris is the head of security. First Surrender is the introductory storyline and the premise and feel is similar to her RSS series.

The storyline focuses on Sierra, the head chef for The Serafina Hotel and Hayden-the man who has wanted Sierra since the first night they met. Their backstory is similar to many of Katie’s novels where the leading couple has known each other in the past or have a recent history. But for Sierra, who has loved Hayden from afar, she has no idea that the man has feelings or wants something more. And in true romantic suspense fashion, Sierra will become the target of an obsessive stalker and Hayden will use everything in his power to keep her safe and in his arms.

Sierra is a strong young woman who does not put up with Hayden’s alpha male instincts and contrast that to the Hayden’s overzealous need to protect Sierra-there is a bit of a power play both in public and in the bedroom. But in the end, it is all about the love and sensuality between two people who have been dancing around each other for over a year.

The novella is a quick read; fast paced friends to lovers story of suspense and romance, and there is never any hesitation between our leading couple. They know what they want and there is no holding back when Hayden makes his feelings known therefore the relationship is very quick to develop. The sex scenes are hot and sensual, romantic and sweet.

If you are a fan of Katie Reus’s Red Stone Security series than you will love her new Sin City series. There is a familiarity to the storyline and one that sets the series in a new direction.

Blake grabbed her and shoved her to the side. Her feet twisted in the heels, and Jess hit the floor. In that same instant, Blake yanked out a gun. The man had been armed? When he’d been making out with her, he’d had a weapon? She sure hadn’t noticed it.

REVIEW: CLAIMING HER WARRIORS is a stand alone storyline from the pen of Katie Reus written as Savannah Stuart. The premise focuses on the men and women of Planet Lumineta and the warriors hoping to claim one human woman as their own. The brothers, Aeron and Hauk, hope that Brianna will accept their claim as mates but something or someone may be standing in the way.

On planet Lumineta, two males (in this case brothers) claim one woman as their mate. The number of children born to the Luminetas is declining and those that survive are usually male, thus leaving the planet with more males than females.  Brianna’s home planet was destroyed and she now lives among the people of planet Lumineta but not all inhabitants are willing to accept ‘immigrants’ from another planet.

Brianna and Aeron have a history together and Aeron is hoping to convince Brianna to accept (along with his brother Hauk) his mate claim. As the trio begin to get closer together, a threat against Brianna’s life, nearly destroys the relationship before it has had a chance to begin. When the identity of the threat is finally revealed, Aeron and Hauk are not surprised.

Claiming Her Warriors is a fast paced novella that borders the genres of sci-fi and the paranormal. It is a fast paced, well-written novella about a few days in the life of three people meant to be together-forever. The world building and character development are limited due to the length of the storyline and I hope that the author is considering expanding on the trio’s story. The main characters are likeable and you get the impression that Aeron and Hauk would be miserable without Brianna in their lives.

If you like a quick story with a little sex (M/M/F), a little romance, a mystery and a HEA, Claiming Her Warriors is the perfect read for a lazy Sunday afternoon.
