REVIEW: SAVED BY DARKNESS is the sixth installment in Katie Reus’s contemporary, adult DARKNESS paranormal, fantasy series. This is half-demon, half dragon shifter Ian McCabe, and dragon shifter Fiona O’Riley’s story line. SAVED BY DARKNESS can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from previous story lines is revealed where necessary.

Told from several third person perspectives including Ian and Fiona using present day and the past, SAVED BY DARKNESS is a second chance story line for Ian and Fiona. Fifty two years earlier Ian knew that Fiona was the one-his mate- and the woman that called to his heart. But Fiona’s sudden rejection and subsequent mating to another dragon caught our hero off guard never completely understanding what happened or why. Fast forward to present day New Orleans where Fiona is now the director of a shelter for abused and battered supernatural women. The shelter sits on the periphery of the Stavros Estate, run by the shifter Alpha Finn Stavros, and Finn wants an introduction to the woman who has helped rescue a number of abused shifter females. Enter Ian McCabe, half-demon/half-dragon shifter whose history with Fiona is heartbreaking and sad. Ian wants a second chance with the woman he has never stopped loving but the disappearance of Fiona’s co-worker Ava has the supernatural beings working together to uncover the threats against one of their own. The Hell-realm calls, and half-demon Ian knows his true nature will be revealed when Fiona’s life hangs in the balance and time is in limited supply. What ensues is the rekindling romance between Fiona and Ian, and the couple’s struggle to find the source of a magical poison that is killing the human population en masse.

The relationship between Fiona and Ian is one of second chances. Fifty two years earlier Fiona walked away in order to protect the only man she would ever love. Present day finds her love for Ian has never waivered but the threats against his life still linger in the present. Ian McCabe’s life was destroyed the day Fiona disappeared, and he has never stopped loving the woman that called to his heart. Finding his half-siblings allowed Ian to become part of the family but he will never truly be a part of the pack. The $ex scenes are intimate and seductive.

We are reintroduced to Ian’s half-brothers: club-owner Bo Broussard and his mate Nyx (Hunted by Darkness), Rory and his mate Liberty (Into the Darkness), and half-sister Cynara-all half-demons with a father in common; as well as a large number of the Stavros pack including the alpha wolf Finn, his vampire mate Lyra (Darkness Awakened), and their daughter Vega; and supernatural healer Ophelia, and wolf shifter Gray –who may or may not have found his mate in Ophelia. The Hell realm reveals a troubling trend when another one of Ian’s half-siblings is caught up in the drama. The requisite evil has many faces that are familiar to our story line couple.

SAVED BY DARKNESS is a complex and detailed story line focusing on family, betrayal, power and control. The premise is unique and intense; the characters are animated, spirited and energetic; the romance is passionate and intense. Katie Reus’s addicting world of the supernatural brings together dragons, and shifters, and demons-oh my !

The premise is intriguing, entertaining and exciting; the characters are sensual and inspiring; the romances are passionate and tender. Saying good bye to Katie Reus’s RED STONE SECURITY series is like saying good bye to a friend-there is always the hope you will see one another again but in the end, it was a pleasure going along for the ride.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Natalie and Aldric) DARK PROTECTOR focuses on the hunt for two missing vampires. With the potential for war between the Clifton Coven of vampires, and the Kinley Pack of wolf shifters, the Brethren and the Council have implemented a search and rescue for the missing vampires. When Natalie and Aldric are teamed together old feelings resurface when Aldric’s internal beast demands Natalie for his mate. What ensues is the re-building of a relationship between Natalie and Aldric- a relationship destroyed when Aldric ran from the woman who called to his heart: and the search for the person(s) responsible for the missing creatures of the night. The investigation turns dark and dangerous when Natalie and Kat find themselves facing down a familiar foe.

DARK PROTECTOR is a story of second chances: a tale about one man whose life was destroyed when his first mate was murdered leaving a grief stricken Aldric to suffer alone; and one woman whose heart is unable to bear another rejection by the man that she loves.

There is a slow build up of the story line premise as the characters search for the missing vampires. There is also an equally palpable sexual energy of attraction and need between Natalie and Aldric but Aldric knows he screwed-up royally the last time he ran. The $ex scenes are limited but erotic and intense.

DARK PROTECTOR is a story of suspense and mystery; adventure and investigation; examination and acceptance. The premise is imaginative and creative; the characters are passionate and engaging; the romance is fated and encouraging.

REVIEW: LOVE THY ENEMY is the thirteenth installment in Katie Reus’s contemporary, adult RED STONE SECURITY romantic, suspense series focusing on the men and women who work for RSS. LOVE THY ENEMY is a storyline that follows two building relationships: Red Stone Security employee Dominique Castle, and Russian business man Viktor Ivanov; as well as Victor’s brother Abram Ivanov, and his personal assistant Lucy. LOVE THY ENEMY like all of the other installments can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Some characters cross over from previous installments.

Told from several third person perspectives LOVE THY ENEMY focuses on attacks against Viktor Ivanov from an unknown assailant. As local businessmen Viktor and his brother Abram are well known on the real estate market but their father’s criminal past has marked the brothers guilty by association and especially to Dominique Castle – a woman who lost everything to some from the brother’s past. As Viktor pursues Dominique and offers to pay his family’s debt, Abram decides it is time to get closer to the woman who has called to his heart for close to a year. But someone has targeted Viktor, and the enemy could be someone close.

Dominique is a strong woman whose life has been torn apart by grief and loss. Meeting Viktor Ivanov brings back all of the horrific memories from her childhood and teens, and with it the icy barrier around her broken heart. Viktor is a man far separated from the criminal life his father once led- a life Viktor and his brother know only too well. Now that their personal and business life is no longer connected to crime, the brothers have set out to win the hearts of the women they love. Viktor is totally out of his element as he tries to woo and date Dominique, and it doesn’t help that every time they are out in public, someone makes an attempt against their lives. The $ex scenes are intimate, erotic and passionate.

Several of the Red Story Security employees play secondary and supporting roles. Abram and Lucy’s relationship builds on the periphery of Viktor and Dominique’s story, but it was nice to see two happily ever afters in one story.

LOVE THY ENEMY is a story packed with mystery, suspense, and action. The premise is captivating; the characters are animated, charismatic and fated; the romance is inspiring and intense. Another winner from the pen of Katie Reus.

REVIEW: SECRET OBSESSION is the twelfth installment in Katie Reus’s contemporary, adult RED STONE SECURITY erotic, romantic suspense series focusing on the men and women who work for RSS. This is Miami police officer/former marine Ford Burke, and RSS assistant events planner Raegan Taylor. SECRET OBSESSON can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary. Raegan, who is Grant, Porter and Harrison Caldwell’s cousin, was first introduced to the reader in book eleven SWORN TO PROTECT.

Told from several third person points of view, SECRET OBSESSION focuses on the building relationship between Raegan and Ford. Ford has had a thing for Raegan for close to a year but has had a difficult time letting go of the past. Raegan is a woman who has a crush on Ford but the quiet cop has barely acknowledged her existence. When an unknown stalker begins to take things to a personal level with Raegan, Ford becomes Raegan’s personal protector-both in and out of the bedroom. What ensues is the hunt for the person responsible for the attacks against our story line heroine, and Ford’s need to make Raegan his own.

There is a secondary romance story line focusing on Raegan’s friend Ruby and restaurant chef Montez. Ruby has a thing for the scarred and damaged former Ranger but Montez is unwilling to commit to anything beyond the present. Scorned by his former wife because of his disfigured face, Montez believes he has nothing but a one night stand to offer the beautiful and sexy Ruby.

SECRET OBSESSION has a large ensemble cast of secondary and supporting characters first introduced throughout the series. We are witness to the growing family at Red Stone Security, as well as the growing families with relationships, children and professions of love.

Katie Reus offers up another exciting addition to her Red Stone Security series. The premise is familiar in that the stalker scenario has been used before in the series but that doesn’t make the story line any less inviting. There is mystery and suspense, heartbreak and misunderstanding, passion and romance. Each installment in the Red Stone Security series can be read as a stand alone-sit back and enjoy !

REVIEW: INTO THE DARKNESS is the fifth installment in Katie Reus’s contemporary, adult, DARKNESS paranormal romance series. As per the blurb INTO THE DARKNESS is one book, two stories about four people, fated mates, a wedding celebration, and an act of revenge-years in the making

The reader was first introduced to the main characters (Rhea and Conall / Liberty and Rory) throughout the series; the females have struggled with loss, betrayal, and heartbreak; the males have been searching for something more. The characters are strong, colorful, animated and engaging. The $ex scenes are seductive, romantic and intense.

Katie Reus is one of my favorite go-to authors. Her writing style and use of imagery pulls the reader into the story line-you become one with the characters-feeling their emotions, heartbreaks, wants and needs. The world building follows two love stories that interconnect when the Stavros Pack is targeted during the wedding festivities for Bo and Nyx.

There is no loss of cohesion, no loss of emotional build up, and no loss of action when Katie blends two romances into one story-the flow and pacing are quick, even and never wanders into ‘filler’ territory. There are moments of humor and fun to offset the building danger. What ensues is the search for the person(s) responsible for the attacks, and the reason why. The angst and anxiety builds when one of their own goes missing, and the Pack is targeted once again.

INTO THE DARKNESS is a story about hope, passion, and a look to the future while letting go of the past. There is intrigue, suspense and revenge; drama, passion and steamy $ex.
