ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date February 9, 2016

Maverick “the Avenger” Cage wants to rise to the top and become a legend in the ring. Though he keeps his identity well guarded, he’s known on the fighting circuit as the new kid with a chip on his shoulder and a tattoo on his back that marks him as trouble. He’s got a personal score to settle with the Underground’s one and only Remington “Riptide” Tate.

As Mav trains, he meets a young girl—the only other new person in the town–and sparks fly. When things get heated between them, he finds out she’s none other than Reese Dumas, the cousin of Remington Tate’s wife. A girl who’s supposed to root against him and a girl he’s supposed to stay away from.

But Maverick fights for the woman in his heart, and the monsters in his blood. The world’s eyes are on them and the victor will go down in history as the ultimate fighting champion; the ultimate LEGEND.

•••••

REVIEW: LEGEND is the sixth and final installment in Katy Evans’s contemporary, new adult REAL romance series. This is MMA fighter Maverick Cage, and Reese Dumas’s storyline. Reese Dumas is the cousin to Brooke Tate-wife MMA champion Remington ‘Riptide’ Tate. LEGEND can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from previous story lines is revealed where necessary.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Maverick and Reese) LEGEND follows Maverick ‘The Avenger’ Cage’s rise to stardom, and his building relationship with a woman with close connections to Maverick’s ultimate challenge.

Maverick Cage fights to prove he is the best; that the past is unable to hold him back; that the sins of the father no longer fall on the shoulders of the son. Maverick is a man looking for a trainer; hoping to be the best; and the best will come at the hands of Remington ‘Riptide’ Tate but there is one potential problem standing in the way. Maverick has fallen in love with Reese Dumas, and Reese’s cousin is Remington’s wife Brooke. Reese has been hired by the Tate’s as their nanny and she has quickly fallen for the man whose past is almost as vulnerable as hers. Maverick knows that Reese is the only woman who can capture his heart but is she able to choose a side when the final challenge comes to blows?

The relationship between Maverick and Reese begins at the gym where Reese discovers that the hardened wannabe MMA fighter is not the man everyone believes him to be. Maverick’s family reputation precedes his introduction to the Underground world of the MMA, and Reese knows that to be accepted Maverick may have to take some advice from the man he believes destroyed his life. The $ex scenes are intimate and intense.

Remington and Brooke (and their son Racer) play secondary and supporting characters as the building story line focuses on the championship match between Remy and Mav. Remington is hoping to pass on the crown to an opponent worthy of the title, but Maverick’s private hell may be the one thing holding back our story line hero. The world building focuses on the MMA, the fight to the finish, and people who stand behind the making of a Legend.

LEGEND is a story about a man in conflict: with his past, his present and his future. An entertaining and moving story about two people with broken pasts and broken hearts. LEGEND is a seductive look at a passionate hero who believes he is worthy of so much more than a dying man’s reputation. The premise is inspiring; the characters are heartbreaking and heroic; the romance is a well-deserved path to a happily ever after.

Legend Teaser

excerpt

It’s midweek already, and I’m halfway through my workout when I get a text from Brooke:
Hey! Huge line at the Underground registration, might pick up lunch on our way back home. Don’t wait for us – lunch home w/Diane
Me: Got it ☺ Will take Racer to park and meet you home ltr
I set my phone aside and scan the gym again. Some otherworldly impulse has me walking past the weights section. I cross the treadmills, bicycles, toward the mats at the end and the boxing bags. I scan the area where Maverick always works out. There are several guys at the bags now. None of them are as big, or mysterious. Or hot.
He’s gone.
Disappointment washes over me. I wait a bit, checking the time. Five minutes to leave for Racer.
Reese, you’re acting stupid.
“You’re looking for your friend? The one you come in with?”
“I . . . ah . . . yeah.”
“He hasn’t come in.”
“Right. Thanks.”
I head to pick up Racer from day care, meet Pete there with the stroller and our snacks, then sit Racer inside and push him to the park. There’s this spot I like under the shadow of a tree. I head there. “How was day care, Racer?”
“Okay.”
He’s scanning the park for dogs, I know.
“This is nice, isn’t it?”
I pull out his fruit bears and open them. He dives in.
“Racer, I ran extra hard today and I’m suddenly hungry. If I tell you an extra story tonight, would you give me one of your fruit bears?”
“Two stowies,” he negotiates.
“Okay, two stories, for two bears?” I shoot back.
He hesitates, then nods and lets me pull out two bears, examining my hand thoroughly. I let him open my palm.
“See? Two?”
He grins a dimpled grin that I could eat up, and then continues eating.
I shove them in my mouth and start to set up my blanket and stop in my tracks when I spot the figure doing pull-ups on the tree.
His T-shirt is riding upward due to the lifted position of his arms, and I can see the concrete-like squares of his abs perfectly.
His extraordinary eyes blaze and glow when he spots me a few feet away, not far from the tree. He drops himself to the ground, lithe as a cat and surprisingly quiet, and as he stretches to his feet from the crouched position he landed in, his eyes are direct and interested and warm. No, not warm. More.
There’s a flip in my stomach when his lips curl a little. He ambles over and I have the oddest sensation that he was waiting for me. But . . . was he?
“Maverick.”
“Mavewick!” Racer repeats, and puts out his fist.
He bumps fists with Racer. “Dude. Cool cap.”
He taps Racer’s Yankees baseball cap. Then his eyes lift to meet mine.
My stomach feels unsettled, but it’s not from hunger, more like from nerves or something like . . . anticipation.
“Didn’t see you at the gym today,” I say.
He shakes his head. “I talked to Oz.”
“You did?”
He gives me this quiet, perfect smile and simply nods.
“That’s great.”
“Yeah.”
We smile for the most delicious few seconds.
“So you’re fighting during the inaugural?” I ask excitedly.
He pulls out a page from his back jeans pocket. “That’s me.”
I take and scan the page. It indicates his accepting the Underground terms and rules of engagement, states his coach’s name, and then his name. A dangerous little chill runs down my spine when I read:
Maverick “the Avenger” Cage
And Maverick “the Avenger” Cage is watching me read this paper, studying my reaction.
My palms are sweaty all of a sudden. “Well . . . wow.”
My stomach is quaking upon seeing his name, I don’t know why. Maverick Cage. His name is a conundrum. Maverick means “rebel,” and cage . . . But it looks like this maverick is coming out of his cage.
He tucks the page back into his jeans. “I had to tell someone.”
“And you came to tell me?” If I sound bewildered, it’s because I am.
He stares into me, a liquid look coming to his eyes. “It wouldn’t be happening if it weren’t for you.”
“That’s totally not true.”
He glances down at the stroller. “I wouldn’t forgive myself if I didn’t tell my buddy here.” He fist-bumps Racer again and Racer giggles at the attention.
“Mom and Dad are busy, so I get to keep him for an extra while,” I tell Maverick.
He stares at me. He has a very stubborn, arrogant face, but when he smiles, pleasure softens his granitelike features. And he’s smiling right now. Dear me. “So he’s not yours,” he says.
“God, no. I wish!”
I can’t think straight when he looks at me. I feel naked. As if he knows that I’ve missed him. As if he knows that just looking at him makes me feel odd. Odd and oddly sensual inside. Responding to him.
I open my blanket and bend over to smooth it on the ground. Then I realize my butt is sticking out, the Himalayas of butts out there for him to see. In tight exercise gear. Fuck.
He kneels on his haunches at the edges of the blanket and opens his hand. “Share the blanket with me?”
His knuckles are still scarred. I can’t decide why I keep looking at them. I get a gut squeeze of empathy every time I see the bruises. His hands are huge. He plants them on the blanket, then shifts to lean back on his arms, stretching out his legs before him. Other couples are nearby on blankets. It feels intimate when I set my stuff down, and I feel myself go hot when I sense him watching me settle down next to it.
He spreads out just a little more and squints up at the tree, then looks at me in silence.
I search the picnic bag. “Want some . . . kid food? Or I’ve got . . .” I pull out my emergency Snickers bar, which I’m proud not to have touched yet, and I hand it over. “Plus one water and a drinking cup with a lid.”
I pass the drinking cup to Racer and hand Maverick the water. He takes it. “I’m good.” He opens the water bottle and hands it to me.
I shake my head. I’m not hungry, really. Or thirsty. My stomach feels full of butterflies again and it makes no sense, since I don’t even know him.
He shifts up higher on his arms, the flex of his torsal muscles visible through the cotton of his shirt.
“I almost thought you’d arrived to the gym and got yourself kicked out,” I try.
“Not yet. There’s still tomorrow.” He smirks.
And there’s a tinge of merriment in his eyes.
“Wee, and the ducks?”
I jerk my attention back to Racer and my pending business with him. “Right. I promised we’d feed the ducks today.” I quickly pack our stuff and then push the stroller toward the lake. He walks beside me.
I feel him watching me as I stop at the dispenser to fill up a cup of duck food.
“Mavewick, get me out,” Racer commands.
Maverick sweeps him up and sets him on his feet.
“Don’t go in the water, Racer, just stay on the edge, and don’t let them bite your finger. Do it like this. . . .” I show him how to cup his hand. “Or throw it in the water and watch them pick at it.”
He nods and starts throwing all over, sending the ducks after the nibbles.
I sit on the ground, the scent of damp grass surrounding us as Maverick sits beside me.
“Hey, I want to do something for you.”
“What?”
I can’t remember how to breathe.
I give him a moment to explain, but he’s not helping me out, only smiling. His face is open, friendly, his smile captivating. But his eyes are guarded, careful. I try to keep my voice indifferent.
“You mean for the gym?” I ask, a puzzled frown on my face.
He nods. “For that. And Oz.”
“Oh.” I shake my head, laughing softly. “It’s nothing, really.”
When he looks at me, he looks curious, and unsatisfied somehow. But a genuinely appreciative smile touches his eyes. “Trust me. It’s not nothing. It’s something, and I appreciate it.”
His open gratitude makes me so warm. He makes me feel impulsive.
“I’m in a healthy-living boot camp this summer. You’re meeting the new Reese,” I hear myself blurt out.
Wow. Did I just spew it out like that?
I’m so desperate for him to share bits of himself that I’m just totally baring myself to him without his even asking. Thank god he takes it in stride with an attractive little dance in his eyes.
“What was the old one like?” he asks easily.
I shrug and shake my head, not really wanting to get into that.
When he does nothing to fill the silence that settles between us, it leaves me with nothing to do but look up at him. I lift my lashes, and he’s staring at me with a look of total intrigue in his eyes. Wisps of hair tease my face, and I push them away, feeling really restless under that stare.
“Help me kick my own ass, and we’ll call it even,” I suddenly suggest.
He shakes his head with playful stubbornness. “We’re not even. I still owe you.” His eyes grow thoughtful, and he reaches into his pocket and extracts something. “Open your palm.”
He looks so intense that I open my palm and watch him drop something in it. “What’s this?”
“My IOU.”
I stare at the penny in my palm, then look up at him in confusion.
His voice sounds a little more harsh and textured all of a sudden. “I don’t have a lot right now, but I got this.”
“For a rainy day?” I ask.
“For any day.”

excerpt

‘Not in a million years, kid.’
‘No.’
‘NOT INTERESTED.’
‘Get the fuck out of my face!’
Four cities in two days, and more doors slammed in my face than I can count. I sling my backpack over my shoulder and scratch another name from my list.
Hopping on to a bus and hopping off thirty minutes later, I scan the mix of both commercial and apartment numbers down the block, then knock on my last door.
“Coach Hennesy?”
He’s a tall man, his hair like pepper, clad in sweats, with a yellow timer hanging from his neck. He gives me a questioning look.
“I’m your next champion.”
He laughs, but then he must see something on my face. In my stance. Thirst, resoluteness, guts. Maybe I’m wearing my balls in my eyes. He falls sober and swings the door wide-open. “Come on in.”
He doesn’t ask for my name.
I guess with one look, he knows he’ll find my name in the dictionary, right next to “determined.”
He leads me to his garage. “Where’d you train before?” he asks.
“Self-taught. I watch videos.”
He scoffs, then shrugs. “Okay, let’s see what you’ve got.”
I eye the equipment across the room. The heavy bag hangs from the ceiling, the leather worn from other fighters before me. There’s a boxing dummy at the corner. Speed bag. Weights. A whole private gym set up here. I drop both my bags, then zip open my backpack and start to put on the gloves without bothering to remove my hoodie.
“Take that off; I need to know what you’ve got. Need to see your form,” Hennesy says.
I clench my jaw. Slowly unzip my hoodie. Take it off and glance past my shoulder, shifting to keep my back from the coach’s view. The guy is clearing the fighting area. Good. We can get down to business. He walks to me when I face him.
“Give it over.” I hand him my hoodie and he tosses it aside, then crosses his arms and looks at me. “Speedball first.”
I inhale, position myself before the speedball, and hit. Wham.
I keep on hitting, lightning fast, my fists making the bag fly.
I would have warmed up first, but I’ve been doing this for days, and I won’t stop until I’ve got myself a coach—and not even then.
I’ve got momentum now, and I pick up speed, my arms moving back and forth, working the speed bag until it’s moving so fast you can’t even see it.
I’m starting to sweat; it’s stuffy in here, but I can’t stop. I need him to take me on. I need one yes to get me in the ring. Just one yes and I’ll do the rest.
“Time.” Hennesy stops me. He signals to the boxing dummy and the heavy bag. “Let’s see you pound the bag.”
I swing out and slam my knuckles on the bag, putting everything into my fists. Thack, thump, thud.
Hennesy’s composure starts to crumble with excitement. “Holy shit, boy!”
I’m getting in to it. I’m in the zone—where it’s just me, the leather brown bag, my fists, and nothing else but slamming the spot I’m looking at.
“I’ve seen enough.” He stops the bag from swinging. His eyes glassy. “Fill this out.”
I pull off my right glove and grab a pen as he slaps a paper onto a desk at the corner. I bend down to fill out my name and contact information and realize, too late, that I exposed the tattoo on my back.
“You’re his boy.”
I freeze midsignature.
A second ticks by. Then two.
I slowly set the pen down and take one last look at the paper. I might not get to fill it out after all. I turn.
His face has paled.
I wait it out for a few beats. Maybe he’s different. Maybe he can deal with it.
He tosses my jacket at me. “Get out. Nobody wants to see you fight.”
I frown fiercely as I catch my jacket in my fist and edge forward, equally mad now. “That’s too damn bad. ’Cause I’m fighting anyway.”
I keep my eyes on him as I pull off my left glove, shove my arms into my hoodie, and zip up.
I walk out and the door slams behind me. I clench my jaw, and I shove my gloves into my bag and spot the old, black gloves inside too. I push them down into the bottom of the duffel bag and zip it up.
The season starts in a week and a half. No coach? No fight. I can’t even get into a gym.
But I won’t let anyone or anything keep me from the ring.
I pick up a penny from the ground.
And I spot a girl in workout clothes across the street, tying her shoelaces. She’s a step away from the gym door. I straighten, pull my hoodie over my head, and cross the street, following after her like I belong.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date October 5, 2015

Katy Evans returns with a sexy novella, the final installment of the unforgettable love story that began in MANWHORE.

What lies ahead for Chicago’s most envied couple, Malcolm Saint and Rachel Livingston?

Sparks flew between them in MANWHORE.

Separated by deception, the intensity and heat of their attraction turned up in MANWHORE +1.

Will Chicago’s wealthiest and most notorious player finally settle down, or will one woman never be enough?

Find out in MS. MANWHORE, the ultimate conclusion to their electric, breathtaking story.

**************

REVIEW: MS. MANWHORE is a novella and last installment in Katy Evans’ contemporary adult MANWHORE erotic romance series focusing on billionaire Malcolm Saint and the woman he loves Rachel Livingston. Ms. Manwhore should not be read as a stand alone as the storyline is the culmination of the relationship between Malcolm and Rachel that began as a lie and ends with a destination wedding on a paradise island.

Told for first person point of view (Rachel) Ms Manwhore follows Rachel as she prepares for her upcoming nuptials-her friends Wynn and Gina, her mother, the dress and Malcolm’s desire to give the woman he loves everything that she wants and needs. Rachel wants a small wedding without the over the top wedding hoopla, but her fiancé needs to give her a wedding she will never forget.

A majority of the storyline looks at Rachel and Malcolm’s sexual relationship. The imagery is detailed and graphic; Malcolm is a man who expresses his love with physical affection and $ex. When Rachel implements a ‘no sex until the wedding night’ policy, we watch as the sexual tension continues to build between our leading couple. The $ex scenes are erotic, provocative and hot.

There is the potential for a spin-off or continuation of the series (ala Katy’s REAL series stylization) focusing on Malcolm’s best friend Tahoe and Rachel’s bestie Gina. Something has occurred between this couple or at the very least Tahoe knows something that the reader does not.

As per Katy Evans’s style of writing there is some repetition. I found myself on the outside while the narrator (Rachel) told us about the events leading up to her wedding. I felt detached from the events as the narrator described what was happening and yet was reluctant to invite us into the action-I was on the outside looking in while the heroine relayed details.

If you are a fan of Katy Evans’ MANWHORE series then Ms.Manwhore is a sweet, sexy conclusion to Rachel and Malcolm’s love story. There are no anxious moments; no conflict and no threats from the outside (aside from Rachel’s ex-boss Victoria making an uninvited appearance). MS. MANWHORE is a short story that looks at two people as they prepare for their wedding without the worry of financial hardship.

REVIEW: MANWHORE +1 is the second installment in Katy Evans’s adult, contemporary Manwhore erotic, romance series focusing on billionaire businessman Malcolm Saint, and journalist Rachel Livingston. MANWHORE + 1 is the continuing story of Malcolm and Rachel, and therefore should not be read as a stand alone; Manwhore (book 1) ends on a cliffhanger; the fall out and reconciliation are addressed in Manwhore + 1.

Told from first person point of view (Rachel) MANWHORE +1 begins approximately four weeks following the final events of book 1 wherein Malcolm discovers that Rachel’s intentions to write a biographical storyline about him fell somewhere between a tell all expose and a paparazzi nightmare. Malcolm and Rachel’s relationship had grown personal, and in this, Malcolm believed Rachel’s betrayal was unforgivable and unprofessional-someone had leaked the intimate details of Malcolm’s life, and Rachel was Malcolm’s first source of betrayal.

MANWHORE +1 is a second chance storyline that follows the rebuilding on Malcolm and Rachel’s relationship. Malcolm offers Rachel a position within his company but has no intention of rekindling their affair. Rachel struggles with her attraction and need for Malcolm, and refuses his offer of friendship-only. What ensues is a storyline of attraction, need, and sexual seduction as Malcolm continues to fall for the woman who broke his heart.

Katy Evans has a distinctive style of writing; her characters are intense, colorful and oft times disillusioned with the world but her redundancy and continuous reminders about certain aspects of her characters can be distracting e.g. the color of Malcolm’s eyes (or Remy’s need to smell). Sometimes too many reminders become nothing but filler in the mind of the reader.

The $exual attraction between Malcolm and Rachel is intoxicating and all consuming. There is no denying that Malcolm is unable to stay angry at Rachel; his need and want of the journalist borders on obsessive-heightened by the awareness that Rachel feels that same way. Theirs is a profound, sexually aggressive, and impassioned love fueled by beauty and need. But saying that, a good portion of the storyline focuses on the $exual aspect of their relationship thus rendering very little angst or drama with the reconciliation of our couple. Malcolm was very quick to forgive and accept Rachel back into his life; his growing love for Rachel never waivered.

MANWHORE + 1 is a story of second chances; a tale of seduction, romance, $ex and love. The characters are intense, emotional and passionate; the romance highly $exual and erotic; the happily ever after not unexpected. Katy Evans will enchant with her storylines-there is always something fascinating about her characters and their lives.

REVIEW: MANWHORE is the first installment in Katy Evans’s contemporary, adult Manwhore erotic romance series focusing philanthropic billionaire Malcolm Saint and journalist Rachel Livingston. Set against the Chicago skyline, MANWHORE finds Rachel caught between her job and her heart.

Told from first person point of view (Rachel) the storyline follows Rachel as she is ‘tasked’ with investigating billionaire ‘manwhore’ Malcolm Saint. Rachel’s employer the ‘EDGE’ magazine is quickly succumbing to the recession and a tell-all expose about Malcolm Saint may give the magazine a stay of execution. When Rachel’s boss assigns the story to Rachel, she begins to research everything she can about Malcolm Saint and she doesn’t like what she hears and reads. A few well placed calls and Rachel begins her descent down the rabbit hole where she will loose her heart and her soul to a man who is very different than the public persona.

The relationship between Malcolm and Rachel is one of immediate attraction but Rachel has a job to do. She tries desperately to remind herself that Malcolm is an assignment-one that has fallen completely out of control. There is a definite spark between our couple, one that does not go unnoticed by both Rachel and Malcolm’s friends, and in this there is the usual push and pull between the heart and mind. The $ex scenes are intimate, erotic and intense.

Rachel is a woman determined to keep things professional but as the storyline builds so too does the sexual attraction between our couple; there is no mistaking the heat, the need and the desire but in the end, nothing good will come when the truth is revealed. Malcolm is a man who doesn’t do relationships; and his reputation with the ladies precedes his introduction to Rachel. Heartbreak and pain will follow when someone looking for revenge, exposes the truth about Rachel’s assignment.

The secondary and supporting characters include Malcolm’s best friends Callan and Tahoe ; Rachel’s besties Gina and Wynn- both of whom play the devil’s advocate; and Rachel’s mother Helen. The requisite evil comes in the form of Rachel’s coworkers who demand and undermine Rachel’s attempts to stop the investigation; and an assortment of Malcolm’s employees, drivers and professional assistants whose duty it is to protect Malcolm from investigating eyes. There are a couple of potential storylines developing –perhaps between Rachel and Malcolm’s friends !

MANWHORE is an intense, captivating and deliciously romantic read. Katy Evans pulls the reader into a story that is moving and seductive; where ethical and moral dilemmas are only a heartbeat away; where falling in love is as beautiful as it is destructive. The tension and anxiety build while the reader watches the inevitable fall out.

Interview 2

TRC: Hi Katy and welcome to The Reading Cafe. Congratulations on the release of MANWHORE.

Katy: Thanks so much for having me over, Sandy!

TRC: We would like to start with some background information. Would you please tell us something about yourself?

Website / Facebook / Twitter

Katy Evans Katy: I’m Katy Evans, author of the Real series and the upcoming Manwhore series. Real debuted in 2013 as the first in the Real series and from that moment on, I’ve been truly blessed to be able to share my characters and stories with readers. The first book in my new series, Manwhore, releases this month and I’m super excited for readers to meet Rachel and Malcolm Saint.

TRC: Who or what influenced your career in writing?

Katy: It all began when I became addicted to the Sweet Valley High books. As I closed the pages of my very first one, it struck me that all I wanted was to be a writer and share my own characters and stories with others. I wanted to make others feel the things I felt reading, and I also wanted to share the stories that – even then – seemed to pop in my head at night as I imagined alternate endings or plot points.

TRC: If you had a choice, which career, other than writing, would you like to attempt?

Katy: I’d love a career where I get to work with animals all day, especially wild animals. Animals genuinely like me and I’m also insanely attracted to them. They give me such joy.

Manwhore TRC: MANWHORE is your March 2015 release-an adult, contemporary, erotic romance storyline. Would you please tell us something about the premise?

Katy: Manwhore begins with my heroine, Rachel, getting an assignment to approach and investigate Chicago’s most notorious womanizer, the toe-curlingly gorgeous Malcolm Saint. What’s great about Saint is that we get a glimpse of him through the social media first – basically, gossip. Before our heroine meets him in person, she judges him based on the exterior persona that he projects to the world. Daredevil. Ruthless. Relentless. A playboy. All true. But when Rachel is assigned to get the “real” deets on him, we get to see another side of him that you’d never expect. And that’s what truly made me fall for him – I hope readers will fall for him as hard as I did too. There is SO much more to this man than meets the eye. He is so much more than a “manwhore.”

TRC: How many books do you have planned for the series? Will all of the books feature Malcolm Saint as the leading hero or does each installment feature a different leading couple?

Katy: The first 2 or 3 books will be about Malcolm and Rachel and I’m hoping to continue with stories for some of their friends. 😉

TRC: What challenges or difficulties (research, logistics, background) did you encounter writing this particular story?

Katy: It was initially a challenge to take the book where I wanted to go. I had a very clear idea of what I wanted the book to be like, but I wasn’t sure exactly at what point of the story to begin. I played around endlessly until I found some direction from my wonderful beta readers and agent, and from that moment on, the book exploded.

TRC: Are the storyline characters based in reality or a culmination of fact and fiction?

Katy: My stories are a blend of fiction and reality. As they say, fiction imitates real life, and vice versa! 😉

TRC: How do you keep the plot unpredictable without sacrificing content and believability?

Katy: I’m a very organic writer, so although I know “what” I’m writing about and have an essential idea of how the book should be, I don’t know anything else. I just sit down and start pulling out scenes the characters start to shoot my way, and sometimes I discard them when I don’t feel they’re good enough to match my vision, and sometimes I keep them but work on them endlessly until they get to a place they want. Sometimes I put them in the wrong place and realize maybe it needed to come sooner, or later, or not at all. So it’s a bit of a discovery process, and then a shaping process to be sure that one thing leads to the other and then to the other…

TRC: Let’s talk about your REAL series. The sixth book is set to release later in 2015. Do you have a title or leading character? If so, are you able to give us a hint ?

Real Series

Katy: The Real book #6 is still in brainstorming stages so I don’t want to jinx it yet. I’m allowing all my characters free reign so it could be a return to characters readers have already met, or a new story for one of the supporting characters in the first several books. I definitely promise to keep you updated.

TRC: When writing a storyline, do the characters direct the writing or do you direct the characters?

Katy: Oh definitely the characters. I always start with an idea that seems to come with the character – what does he/she want? That’s usually what starts all my stories. When I know that one of the MC’s wants something pretty badly. And from then on, they direct the story.

TRC: The mark of a good writer is to pull the reader into the storyline so that they experience the emotions along with the characters. What do you believe a writer must do to make this happen? Where do you believe writers fail in this endeavor?

Katy: I think that a great book has many elements, but the most important is definitely to make us care about what happens to the character. It’s not the same to watch a car blow up than to watch a car blow up with someone your character loves inside that car. To make that connection, I think we need to dive deep into the psyches of our characters, sometimes to uncomfortable places, to find the truth of who they are and why they are the way they are. Maybe it hurts and sometimes we shy away from digging that deep, but when we do that, it’s definitely when the magic happens!

TRC: Writer’s Block is a very real phenomenon. How do you handle the pressures and anxiety of writer’s block?

Katy: When I feel blocked, I usually step back and leave the book for a few days, and when that doesn’t work, I reread it or ask an author friend to give it a read, and help me pinpoint whatever is not working in the story. Usually Writer’s Block happens when you hit a wall and somehow the writer needs to scale that wall or go around it, or simply change something before that wall so that you don’t write yourself into a corner.

TRC: What is something that few, if any people, know about you?

Katy: I’m shamelessly obsessive about certain things and I want them exactly my way or….the highway. Thankfully my husband knows my looks and knows when to let me get my way, and when to set his foot down. Haha

Manwhore Plus 1TRC: On what are you currently working?

Katy: I’m currently finishing MANWHORE +1, the continuation of Malcolm and Rachel’s story, out July 7th.

TRC: Would you like to add anything else?

Katy: Thanks so much for having me over. I’m truly blessed to be able to share my stories and can’t tell you how much the support I’ve received means to me!

RIPPED (Real #5) by Katy Evans

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date December 9, 2014

The fifth book in the New York Times new adult series that began with Real. When an angry, heartbroken girl is forced to be near her rocker ex-boyfriend, only time will tell if the fire between them will consume them both.

Pandora, the gothic friend of Brooke (Real, Mine, Remy) and Melanie, thought that getting her heart broken by her bad boy rocker ex could only happen once. But now, he’s back in town with the biggest concert of the year. Pandora hates him so much that she gets Melanie to come with her and play a prank on him at his gig. But when they are caught by security, and her ex himself is summoned, he decides not to press charges if she’ll follow certain conditions. Pandora likes none of his rules, or that he’s in charge of her, especially since they seem designed to make sure she’s in close contact with him again. But the closeness reignites the passion they once shared, and soon no matter how much she wants to hate him, it’s clear she’s still hung up on him. And worse: he knows it too.

Every woman wants me–except the one I sing for.

Seattle shakes with anticipation: they call it the concert of the year. They say girls are getting pregnant just thinking about my band being in town.

But when you love a girl, you don’t leave her with nothing but a ring and a promise. Any man with half a brain should know.

So what did I expect my girl would do when she saw me again?

Well, for starters, she loathes our music. Particularly the song I wrote about her.

When I sing it, the stadium is in an uproar. Thousands of fans scream my name like I’m a god–but yeah, not her. Crystal clear: the girl’s not happy to see me.

Black hair, black boots, a bad attitude, that’s her — Pandora Stone is a freaking man-eater and she’s out for my blood.

That’s alright.

Let her come at me. Because I’m out for her heart and, this time, there’s no way she can stop me.

REVIEW:  RIPPED is the fifth storyline in Katy Evans’s contemporary, new adult Real erotic, romance series. This is rock musician Mackenna (Kenna) Jones and Pandora Stone’s (friend of Melanie and Brooke-Real, Mine, Remy and Rogue) storyline- a second chance at love for two people ripped apart and destroyed by the past.

Told from alternating first person points of view (Mackenna and Pandora) the storyline focuses on Pandora’s need for revenge. When she learns the rock group Crack Bikini (yep, that’s the name) and their lead singer Mackenna Jones have come to town, our heroine is hell bent on destroying Mackenna’s life. Six years earlier Mackenna dropped out of Pandora’s life without so much as a goodbye and Pandora has lived with the betrayal and hatred ever since.

History will show that Pandora and Mackenna were once in love. High school sweethearts who promised one another a happily ever after but life and everything it had to offer was ripped from their future. Now six years later, Pandora’s immaturity and hatred for
Mackenna finds our heroine in need of legal help when she retaliates with rotten tomatoes during the concert. To avoid further embarrassment, management makes Pandora an offer she cannot refuse-three weeks with the band or they press charges for assault. For the next twenty one days Pandora is determined to make life on the road miserable for everyone, including the camera man following her around, but soon realizes she has never stopped loving the man who ripped out her heart.

Pandora is an angry, immature, dark and vulnerable young woman who has never been able to let go of the past and in this her actions, behavior and attitude leaves something to be desired. She is not an easy person to like; she continues to berate and belittle the man that she loves hoping to embarrass and destroy the rock-god’s ego. But Mackenna has never stopped loving Pandora-his muse, his heart and his soul-and he will ensure the Pandora will never leave his side again. There is anger, vulnerability, betrayal and heartbreak for two people whose lives were destroyed by those that they loved. The sex scenes are imaginative and emotional; passionate and real.

The secondary characters include Melanie, Brooke and Remy from the previous storylines. Remy’s appearance and page time is limited as the story focuses on Mackenna, Pandora and the members of Crack Bikini. The band mates are colorful, determined and a little bit bad but had no idea about the woman who made their lead singer tick.

RIPPED is provocative storyline about two people whose love for one another has been buried beneath the pain and anguish of heartbreak and loss. There are moments of intimate revelations and reflections about the past; a peak into what was and what could have been. Katy Evans writes from the heart where passion and seduction begin to mend a broken heart.

WRITING RIPPED
By Katy Evans

RIPPED – I’m so excited to be sharing with everyone RIPPED, Real series book #5! ☺

RIPPED began with Pandora, Brooke (Real, Mine and Remy) and Melanie’s (Rogue) goth friend. She’s such a wounded warrior and so bitter that I was completely hooked wanting to know—what happened? What made her like this? Why does she hate men so much?

And that’s how I met her man, Mackenna Jones.

He’s back in Seattle for the concert of the year, and Pandora hates him so much, she is still so stuck in the past for having loved (and lost) him when she was young, she’s determined to go pay him a visit and give him a little something to remember her by. Nothing nice, I assure you.

And that’s where RIPPED totally exploded for me. It’s one of those books where I couldn’t stop writing even for a second. It seemed like I just opened Pandora’s box of secrets and they came spilling out, one after the other. Memories, what truly happened in her eyes, in his eyes, their first kiss (sigh) and so much more. Their past is tumultuous and passionate and their present, when they reunite again, is just as passionate and rocky. They have a long way to go to their HEA but, though Pandora doesn’t feel she deserves it and has never let herself want it, Mackenna has another plan to conquer back his girl.

What I love about this couple in particular is how equal they seem—the push and the pull always kept me guessing as to who had control of the situation, sometimes Pandora had Mackenna by the pants, and plenty of others it was Mackenna who kept getting the upper hand, knowing each and every one of Pandora’s weaknesses (including that he is the main one.)

He is the boy she could never forget.

She is the girl no other girl has ever compared.

Things are about to get RIPPED during Mackenna’s concert tour when his manager thinks it brilliant to force Pandora to tag along. ☺

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date November 26, 2013

Underground fighter Remington Tate is a mystery, even to himself. His mind is dark and light, complex and enlightening. At times his actions and moods are carefully measured, and at others, they spin out of control.

Through it all, there’s been one constant: wanting, needing, loving, and protecting Brooke Dumas. This is his story; from the first moment he laid eyes on her and knew, without a doubt, she would be the realest thing he’s ever had to fight for.

••••••••••••••••••••

REVIEW: REMY is the third instalment in Katy Evans contemporary, new adult Real series focusing on underground fighter Remington Tate and Brooke Dumas-the woman that he loves. REMY is a storyline that parallels the time line of both REAL (#1) and MINE (#2). It is told in flashbacks from Remington’s POV and some present day leading up to Remy and Brooke’s wedding.

The premise is identical to the previous two instalments but we are pulled into a darker world of one man’s obsession with the woman that he loves. Remy suffers with bi-polar disorder and the emotional fall out that affects everyone in his life. Refusing to be medicated, Remy suffers ‘black periods’ where he loses all concept of time and what is happening. REMY follows our hero through his tumultuous battle with the disease, his friends and himself.  Remy’s fears of losing Brooke consume his every thought and in this the reader is pulled onto a roller coaster ride of epic proportion.

Katy’s style of writing is pervasive through the storyline-her use of similar phrases and expressions is seen throughout the entire series; Remy’s need for Brooke; the continuous references to scent, smell and taste; as well as Remy’s dysfunctional jealousy and possession of the woman he loves; and the repetition of mine, Mine, MINE. Remy is a psychiatrist’s nightmare and yet he is unwilling to be medicated because it affects his emotional and physical stability.

There are few things in the series that are questionable and unbelievable including the degree to which Remy refuses help or medication for a disorder that controls and affects every aspect of his life. The character is a danger to himself and to others but the solution proposed (in Mine #2) is not necessarily the best choice-in fact, it is only used as a last resort. But saying that, it is after all, a fictional storyline, with fictional characters in a fictional world and who are we to question when the series is presented as entertainment for the enjoyment of the author’s readers and fans.

When he’s near, I need to remind myself that I am strong–but he is stronger. And now it’s my job to keep his body working like a perfect machine, his taut muscles primed and ready to break the bones of his next opponents . . .

But the one he’s most threatening to, now, is me.

I want him. I want him without fear. Without reservations.

If only I knew for sure what it is that he wants from me?

•••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••

REVIEW: REAL is the first storyline in Katy Evans’s contemporary, new adult series that focuses on underground fighter Remington ‘Riptide’ Tate and physiotherapist Brooke Dumas. The story is graphic, gritty and leaves nothing to the imagination.

Remy is a fighter in the world of illegal underground boxing. His persona is that of Jekyl and Hyde and he is the first to admit that during certain episodes in his life, he makes the lives of those closest to him, unbearable and dark. He is an enigma-a man with two distinctive personalities and he has paid dearly throughout his existence.

Enter Brooke Dumas. A recent graduate who, one night, attended an underground fight and her life would never be the same. Remy spies Brooke prior to a fight and offers her a three month position as his personal masseuse and physiotherapist. When ensues is a story of forbidden love, heartbreak and sorrow, a hidden history of a painful past and a need to claim one woman as his own. But Remy has a dark side and he fears that losing Brooke will finally push him over the edge.

The novel is a story of a building relationship between two people who are desperately attracted to one another but also about a man who pushes the people away who care for him the most. The relationship is one of sexual frustration, blatant attraction and sensual acts that can only be described as claiming one’s mate.

The storyline is slow to build as the author pulls the reader into a construct of a relationship when background information about our couple is revealed on a need to know basis. Each has a painful past, but Remy’s psyche and emotional health are in the balance when the woman with whom he falls in love, is pushed away one too many times.

The writing style is simple and there is a bit of redundancy as it pertains to Brooke’s thoughts and emotions but in retrospect the author is trying to show the enormity of the character’s feelings and pull toward the one man who could break her heart.

The is plenty of sexual tension as the couple dance around each other for a good portion of the storyline and there is also tension in the building of the story because you know that at some point Remy will jump the precipice and never look back. The sex scenes are hot, descriptive and palpable.

Katy Evans has written a story that is dark and emotional as is the leading character of Remington Tate. You will experience the highs and lows of one man as he tries to win back his life as well as win the girl of his dreams. I am looking forward to book #2 MINE as their story will continue.
