REVIEW:CORNERED is the second instalment in Kaylea Cross’ contemporay, adult CRIMSON POINT PROTECTORS erotic, romantic suspense series-a spin off from the author’s Crimson Point series. This is Air National Guard Pararescueman Brandon Whitaker, and executive assistant Jaia Sidhu’s story line. CORNERED can be read as a stand alone but for back story and cohesion, I recommend reading book one where the reader is first introduced to Brandon Whitaker.

Told from third person perspective CORNERED follows Jaia Sidhu’s search for the truth. Jaia works for an organization once known as Graystone, an organization with close connections to the seedier side of the government underworld. Within days of her brother’s first assignment for Graystone, everything spiralled out of controlled, and Jaia’s brother Sukhi was killed in a road accident while on patrol in Yemen, a death Graystone went to great lengths to cover up. Working on her own to ferret out the truth, Jaia will discover that Graystone has ordered a hit on a man named Brandon Whitaker, and Jaia places herself in danger, to warn our hero about his impending demise. Brandon Whitaker has no idea who is leaking information about the Graystone Organization but the information is about to place him in the direct line of fire. Jaia Sidhu knows she has run out of time, so our heroine leaves Tampa Florida for Portland Oregon where she will be quickly enveloped by the Crimson Point team. What ensues is the building romance and relationship between Jaia and Brandon, and the potential fall-out as a hit has been ordered on our story line couple, revealing a deeper and darker plan to destroy them both.

The relationship between Brandon and Jaia begins as online strangers. Jaia is desperate to turn over the information she has ‘stolen’ from her current employer,, and Brandon Whitaker is the only man she can trust. While on assignment in Yemen, Brandon was captured and tortured for information he knew nothing about but the name ‘Graystone’ was often mentioned and a high priority for the people in charge. Upon his rescue Brandon finds that the Graystone Organization may be involved in criminal activity both at home and abroad, and his search brings him up close and personal with our story line heroine. Jaia never expected to find herself on the run but falling for Brandon Whitaker meant falling for a man who had stolen her heart. The $ex scenes are intimate and erotic without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

We are re-introduced to Brandon’s sister Kerrigan and her boyfriend Air National Guard Pararescueman Travis Masterson, psychologist Mia Ramos, and pararescueman Asher “Groz” Grozinski; Boyd and Ember; former Delta operator Callum; Jaia’s boss Robert Giesbrecht; Graystone CEO Douglas Lawrence; and reluctant assassin for hire Val. The requisite evil has many faces.

CORNERED is a story of power and control; betrayal and vengeance; espionage and secrets, acceptance and love. The fast paced premise is intriguing and captivating; the romance is seductive and hot; the characters are energetic and dynamic.

You do not have to have read the Crimson Point series although several characters cross over for cohesion and familiarity.

Told from several third person perspectives FALLING HARD follows several interconnecting paths including the search and rescue in Yemen of Kerrigan Whitaker’s brother Brandon; the building relationship between Travis and Kerrigan, and the potential fall-out in the wake of a controversial firing, as the members of the legal firm for which Kerrigan works are killed, one victim at a time. This is forty-eight year old, former US Special Forces soldier Boyd Masterson, and thirty seven year old, IT specialist Ember Thiessen’s story line. DANGEROUS SURVIVOR can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary. Ember’s story begins in book six DEADLY VALOR.

Told from several third person perspectives including Ember and Boyd DANGEROUS SURVIVOR follows in the aftermath of a mass killing wherein Ember Thiessen is the only one to survive. Returning to Crimson Point to retrieve her brother’s dog, Ember comes face to face with former US Special Forces soldier Boyd Masterson, the man she met months before. Trying to bring some closure to her life, Ember rents a cabin in Crimson Point only to find herself homeless within a matter of hours when a watermain breaks, flooding the house. DANGEROUS SURVIVOR is a story of grief and loss, murder and vengeance, family, friendships, relationships and love but also a story that introduces the characters and sets up the background for the author’s new series. The premise is intriguing, engaging and exciting; the romance is seductive and spicy; the characters are energetic, determined, and charismatic.

Instalment in Kaylea Cross’s contemporary, adult VENGEANCE romantic suspense series focusing on a group of women once known as the Valkyrie-members of a secret CIA government project. TAKING VENGEANCE is an ensemble story line such that the Valkyrie’s and their spouses must work together to take down a human trafficking ring. The VENGEANCE series is a spin-off from the author’s HOSTAGE RESCUE TEAM series. TAKING VENGEANCE should not be read as a stand alone as the story line ties up a couple of open ended plot points.

Told from several third person perspectives including Ryder and Danae, DEADLY VALOR follows the building romance and relationship between widow /veterinarian technician Danae Sutherland, and former US Marine Ryder Locke. Ryder Locke is only in Crimson Point for a couple weeks, hoping for some downtime during the Christmas holidays before embarking on his next contract ‘down under’ but meeting his next door neighbor Danae Sutherland and her teenaged son Finn, stirs something deep and protective within our story line hero when he discovers her back story as a widow and single mom. But all is not well in Crimson Point, as the drug trade has increased, and a mass shooting with a lone survivor pulls our heroine into the middle of a potential kidnapping that went all to h*ll. What ensues is the building romance and relationship between Danae and Ryder, and the potential fall-out as Ryder’s time in Crimson Point comes to a close.

Danae and her son Finn are new to Crimson Point, and desperate to make friends, Finn finds himself hanging with the ‘wrong crowd’. Pulled into something potentially dangerous and dark, Finn struggles to pull away only to place his mother in the direct line of fire.

The relationship between Danae and Ryder is one of immediate attraction but from the outset Ryder knows he time in Crimson Point is limited and short. Wanting a relationship that comes with an end date finds our couple saying goodbye leaving heart break in its’ wake. Ryder has fallen in love with our story line heroine, and walking away means leaving a piece of his heart behind. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

There is a large ensemble cast of colorful and energetic secondary and supporting characters including Becca and Chase (Adrift 3), and most of the previous story line couples. The requisite evil has many faces.

DEADLY VALOR is an intriguing, suspenseful and action packed story of murder, destruction, desperation and doubt; a tale of family, friendships, relationships and love. The premise is edgy; the romance is seductive; the characters are animated and energetic.

Told from several third person perspectives including Becca and Chase, ADRIFT follows the building romance and relationship between former US Marine Chase Davenport and Hollywood actress Becca Sandoza. Chase Davenport is working as a stuntman on Becca Sandoza’s latest movie but Chase suspects that something is wrong when our heroine begins to withdraw following a scene that made her very uncomfortable. Friends off the set, Chase begins a slow seduction of the woman that calls to his heart but a number of phone calls and texts to Becca’s phone soon reveal the truth about what is going on. Becca Sandoza is being blackmailed, and Chase is about to get caught in the middle of the fight. As Chase, and security specialist Ryder work to ensure Becca’s safety, a threat of another kind takes everyone by surprise. What ensues is the building romance and relationship between Becca and Chase, and the potential fall-out as our heroine is targeted by more than one man.

Becca Sandoza’s earlier years were fraught with cruelty and abuse, and her past is demanding payment or secrets will be revealed, secrets that could destroy Becca’s struggling mother. Chase Davenport knows that personal security is not his goal in life but protecting Becca means placing himself in the direct line of fire

The relationship between Becca and Chase begins as a co-workers on the set but quickly turns into something more. Chase’s attraction to Becca is immediate but Becca struggles with demons from her past, demons that are continuing to control her present. The $ex scenes are intimate and erotic without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

All of the previous story line couples make cameo appearances including Chase’s sister Harper and Jared, and their brother Bowie and his wife fiance Aspen, as well as the return of security specialist and former Marine Ryder Locke. Aspen Savich’s move to Kill Devil Hills (KDH), North Carolina came in the wake of her beloved great uncle’s death, having inherited his home and so much more but Aspen’s arrival in KDH requires a mechanic when her uncle’s old ‘woody’ begins to break down.
