Kresley Cole to launch new YA series
Kresley Cole: Simon & Schuster Books for Young Readers is announcing today that it’s going to publish a new series of young adult novels by Kresley Cole. Yes, that’s right: Kresley Cole, she of the wildly popular Immortals After Dark series, which includes her wildly popular latest release, Lothaire. First up in the sure-to-be wildly popular The Arcana Chronicles will be the first young adult novel Kresley has ever written, Poison Princess. It’ll be released in October this year. Which is WAY sooner than I was expecting when I first heard about this. I mean, how long did readers have to wait for Lothaire? (Not that it wasn’t totally worth the wait, of course.)
Back to The Arcana Chronicles …
Here’s the synopsis from the publisher:
Poison Princess centers on 16-year-old Evangeline “Evie” Greene, a privileged teenager from Louisiana. When an apocalyptic event decimates her hometown, killing everyone she loves, Evie realizes the hallucinations she’d been having for the past year were actually visions of the future — and they’re still happening. Fighting for her life and desperate for answers, she must turn to her wrong-side-of-the-bayou classmate: Jack Deveaux. As Jack and Evie race to find the source of her visions, they meet others who have gotten the same call. An ancient prophecy is being played out, and Evie is not the only one with special powers. A group of teens have been chosen to re-enact the ultimate battle between good and evil. But it’s not always clear who is on which side …
OK, you had us at “an apocalyptic event.”
Actually, you had us at “Kresley Cole,” but then you had us even more at “an apocalyptic event.” What is it about dystopian YAs, anyway? But I digress.
Not to editorialize or anything, but The Arcana Chronicles series already sounds amazing.
Says Kresley, “I couldn’t get this idea out of my head, kept imagining what would happen if the 22 Major Arcana cards of a Tarot deck — like the Magician, Death, or the Empress — were real kids. I envisioned them with special abilities based on the characteristics of their Tarot card and plotted out how they would use those powers to battle other cards. I’m delighted to have the chance to develop a new mythology around the Arcana.”
