REVIEW: DIMITRI is the sixth instalment in Kym Grosso’s adult, contemporary Immortals of New Orleans paranormal, romance series. This is the Acadian Wolves beta Dimitri LeBlanc and hybrid shifter/photographer Gillian Michel’s storyline. Although Dimitri is the sixth in the series it can be read as a stand alone without too much difficulty. Any pertinent information from previous storylines is revealed when necessary to the premise. Please note: there are some graphic sexual M/F/M scenes-all consensual and erotic.

At the end of Leopold’s Wicked Embrace Dimitri is attacked by a rival wolf pack as he endeavors to protect a female shifter from assault. Without the ability to shift, Dimitri is left unprotected and the resulting attack has left him mortally wounded. Enter Gillian Michel-a woman with a special ability to heal-and a woman who calls to Dimitri’s immortal soul. Knowing the attacks will continue until she is caught, Gillian runs only to find herself on the receiving end of another assault time and again.

The relationship between Dimitri and Gillian is one of immediate attraction but Gil wants nothing to do with the shifter wolves. She is drawn to Dimitri but her family history prevents her from getting too close to any wolf. She is a hunted woman, wanted for the power she secretly hides from the world, but a woman who wants to be loved for herself and not what her powers will do. The sex scenes are provocative, emotional and intense. Gillian is Dimitri’s reluctant mate and Dimitri’s wolf needs to claim the woman for his very own.

The world building continues with the inclusion of many of the previous storyline characters as well as the sights and sounds of the New Orleans nightlife and the Las Vegas desert strip. The secondary characters include Jac and Nick from the New York Pack as well as Logan and several of the members from Dimitri’s Acadian Pack. Leopold and several of his Nightkind vampires play a significant role in Dimitri and Gillian’s story but it is one of Dimitri’s ex-lovers, a conniving witch named Ilsbeth whose jealousy and desire for Dimitri will put everyone at risk.

REVIEW: LOGAN’S ACADIAN WOLVES is the fourth storyline in Kym Grosso’s Immortals of New Orleans contemporary paranormal series. This is Logan Reynaud and Wynter Ryan’s story. Although this is part of a series, it can be read as a stand alone without too much difficulty. Kym references a few of the previous storyline characters but only when their presence or mention is significant to the current book and in this, we learn a little more history to the how and whys.

Logan Reynaud is a new alpha with a new pack.With the recent murder of his best friend and Alpha Marcel, Logan takes over the New Orleans Alpha position.  Having to prove himself worthy, Logan will meet each challenge to his alphahood head on. But finding a battered, bleeding and seemingly human female will challenge Logan in more ways than one. There is something about Wynter Ryan that calls to Logan’s internal wolf and no one, including Wynter, knows the truth about what is happening. Logan has visions and his latest will prove personally prophetic for both.

Wynter is a scientist. Her latest ‘project’ found Wynter a virtual prisoner of a group of vampires and upon her escape she discovered that life with the New Orlean’s pack was trading one prison for another-a gilded cage is still a cage. Growing up in the New York pack, Wynter knew a thing or two about shifting wolves, but she had always been protected by the alpha.

The relationship between Logan and Wynter (in the beginning) is tenuous at best. She is a human female who challenges Logan at every turn but there is also something different about Wynter and it is the differences that will call to Logan’s wolf. The sexual tension pulls the reader into a forbidden romance when the pack Alpha demands submission from the woman who would one day be his mate-if she can survive her own set of challenges.

Logan’s Acadian Wolves follows Logan, Wynter and Dimitri (Logan’s Beta) as they try to uncover the who and why behind Wynter’s imprisonment; the mysterious messages; and the threats against the pack. This is also a story that will keep you guessing as to the true identity of the perpetrator-right until the very end.

Kym Grosso brings together a fascinating world of wolf shifters, vampires and scientific research in a story about the ultimate betrayal and revenge. The characters are colorful and real; you can feel the love for their Alpha but you can also sense that something is not quite right. Logan will meet his ultimate challenge and in the end, it is one fight he will not win.

The Immortals of New Orleans is a series that will call to all lovers of the paranormal genre.

LUCA’S MAGIC EMBRACE is the second storyline (October 2012 release) in Kym Grosso’s slightly erotic Immortals of New Orleans series. Kym brings together an assortment of supernatural powers including vampires, werewolves and witches and writes a sexy, dark and dangerous blend of seduction and magic.

Samantha Irving is a computer wiz and a reluctant witch. With her powers of magic at a virtual negligible level, our heroine takes a long overdue vacation to recover from a recent abduction and introduction into the world of submission and sexual dominance. Refusing to live and train with the coven of witches, Samantha embarks on a journey to recover her memories and discover which path will lead her to her future. But her escort will soon find himself the victim of another attack and Samantha will suffer with the guilt of knowing that he risked his life to bring her to safety.

Luca MacQuairie is a 200 year old vampire who has a dislike for humans yet he found himself oddly attracted to the battered and abused Samantha Irving. Samantha’s safety was a priority knowing that someone was trying to control her life, but Luca’s life is about to take a dramatic turn when he is bound in silver and his life blood is drained. Without any knowledge of what has happened or who attempted to end his life, Luca needs time to recover and then goes on the hunt for the little human witch who has occupied his thoughts.

I never had the chance to read the first book in the series Kade’s Dark Embrace where Luca and Samantha are first introduced. Although Kym explained that I would not be missing any vital information, I realized that Luca’s character has taken a 180 degree turn from the previous storyline which probably would have made for a different feel to the character and story. I liked Luca. He was an amazing alpha vampire who was turned during the war of 1812. He had lost much in his human life and believed he would never find love again. He was cold, without feeling and only lived to support his maker and friend Kade. But all that changed when the spunky little witch entered his life and literally brought him to his knees.

As the story progresses, we discover the reason Samantha has been hunted. Without her memories of the time she was in captivity, she is unable to process or recall any of the events while she was away. Hoping to unlock the mystery, Samantha and Luca venture back to the coven only to realize that Samantha is no longer welcome and something about the others doesn’t feel right. They will soon discover that a powerful and ancient source of magic is the prize in a war between the species, and Luca and Samantha are caught in the middle of this particular battle.

The relationship between Samantha and Luca progresses quite quickly when Luca realizes that not all humans are alike. Samantha will soon discover her powers and once she learns to control and command, she will be a deadly force to be reckoned with. She is the perfect match to Luca’s alpha personality.

There is some BDSM as it pertains to a sex club where Samantha was held prisoner, and she and Luca will experiment together behind closed doors. But the content is minimal and just enough to get the pages a little steamy. The story will open with a sexual encounter between friends that is explained as a necessary evil in the world of the vampire if only because the thrall of the feed induces sexual pleasure.

Overall I enjoyed Luca’s Magical Embrace. Kym writes a storyline filled with passion and love, and there is none of the angst of the push and pulling of personality conflicts that many storylines feel compelled to add. We didn’t have to wait until the end of the book to realize that Samantha and Luca were perfect for each other and neither did they. I hope to read more about this particular couple, because their future together has been gifted and blessed.
