Description:
Izzy Fineberg can take on any challenge—and she’s had some big ones lately. After one fateful night with the hottest Deaf man she’d ever met, Izzy found she was pregnant with his child. And she never caught his name. She’s been doing the single mom thing for nine months now, and surely, nothing could be more challenging than that. But her first day at her new job, she meets her supervisor…and recognizes him immediately.

Nolan Holtzman never expected to see Izzy again, and now, she’s the new hire at the agency he works in. He’d think things were finally going his way for once, if not for the iron-clad ban on interoffice dating. He’ll have to keep his distance from her if he wants to keep his dream job helping the Deaf community. Much easier said than done when Izzy drops the bomb that she’s a single parent…of his son.

It’s the shock of his life, but that won’t stop him from stepping up to be a dad. So when Izzy is suddenly in need of a place to stay for a week, Nolan invites her and the baby to his home. But even as difficult as it is, keeping their little family a secret from their employer isn’t their biggest challenge ahead…

Review:

I quite enjoyed About that Night by Laura Brown.  It’s a fast read with a good flow that keeps the reader entertained from beginning to end.  I also like the fact that even though it’s a quick read, Ms. Brown doesn’t rush anything about her story between Izzy and Nolan.  She takes the time to give us enough backstory to understand how Izzy and Nolan came to know each other before meeting again. She also fills us in on parts of their past that are important to their current state.  All this important information helps to propel their adventure forward and what an adventure it is.

I thought both Izzy and Nolan were well written. They felt real and believable as characters, which helps us relate better to them creating a connection that keeps us wanting to read on and see just what will happen next. Their chemistry is there from the get go and it’s off the charts.  Whenever Nolan and Izzy were alone together the sexual tension between them just kept building until they finally combusted.

I will say, Ms. Brown definitely knows how to create that special chemistry between her couples and this time it just added to an already precarious adventure for Nolan and Izzy. It’s like I was sitting on pins and needles waiting for the rug to be pulled out from under them at work regarding their past meeting and winding up being parents to one very cute and adorable baby Archie.  For me I’d have to say Archie stole the story in every one of his scenes.  The descriptions of Izzy and Nolan’s separate interactions with Archie, then their combined interactions with him are just downright sweet, comical and adorable.  It was very easy to see these scenes in my minds eye and I couldn’t help but smile at all of them, and just want for all three of them to get their HEA.  Watching the 2 of them learn to be parents together and realize they have to put Archie first is very sweet, charming and comical at times.  As per my favourite scene; Nolan changing Archie for the first time and not knowing what can happen when you change a baby boy.  Needless to say poor Nolan got a little pee pee shower, LOL!!  Yes I was laughing out loud at that one.  Needless to say even though they have some bumps in the road to their HEA, both Izzy and Nolan realize they are better and stronger together then apart, not only as a couple but as parents too.  They wind up creating their own little family and they couldn’t be happier about it.

If you’re looking for a speedy read, with a feel good mood to it you need look no further then About that Night by Laura Brown.  You won’t be disappointed.

Until next time, happy reading everyone.

Description:
This Passover is starting to feel like the ten plagues might be coming back to haunt them before the weekend is over…one hilarious misstep after the next.

Gaby Fineberg just wants to get through Passover Seder without her “well meaning” family playing matchmaker. She needs a date, just for one simple meal—that includes singing, the history of her forefathers, and not one bit of yeast. The hot guy at her gym would be perfect. He probably hates bread, anyway, with a body like that. But when she finally works up the nerve to ask him…he doesn’t hear a word she said.

Levi Miller is deaf and happily single. Initially, he doesn’t know why this beautiful woman is talking to him, but it’s clear she needs help—and suddenly so does he. In a very complicated situation, Levi finds a simple solution. Gaby will pretend to be his new girlfriend to bail him out, and he’ll return the favor. But he didn’t bargain for a family dinner quite like this one…

Review;

I really enjoyed Matzah Ball Surprise by Laura Brown.  It was a cute, charming, and sexy fast read with two characters who just stole the show from beginning to end.  Levi and Gaby are two complex characters that are real, relatable and have their own drama/baggage in their lives that they haven’t properly dealt with. It isn’t until they meet each other and start to fall for each other that they are able to fully deal with the drama in each of their lives.  Gaby and Levi both inadvertently wind up helping the other see just what it is that’s missing from their respective lives.

I enjoyed the pace of this story, I didn’t find it rushed at all. I thought Ms. Brown took the necessary time to set the back-stories for both characters to allow us the reader to fully get to know them.  We also get to know more about both Gaby and Levi as their romance develops and Levi tries to teach ASL to Gaby to pull off their fake relationship for her family.  The scenes with Levi trying to teach Gaby and the two of them using their phones to communicate were sweet and just downright adorable.  It’s through these scenes that we really get to see the real Levi and Gaby emerge.  Levi’s deafness never hampered their relationship at all, if anything I found it wound up elevating it and making it something more.  They found a way to communicate and know each other in way no one else could. It created a bond that only the two of them could ever have, which made their romance that much more special and sweet.

If you enjoy a sweet solid romance with just the right amount of charm, humour, and sexual chemistry all mixed together with some drama/angst, then Matzah Ball Surprise is just the book you’re looking for.  Sit back, relax, pour a glass of wine and enjoy Gaby and Levi’s adventure.  Trust me you won’t be disappointed.

Until next time, happy reading everyone!!
