REVIEW: HIS DEMAND is the first instalment in Lisa Renee Jones’ contemporary, adult THE DIRTIER DUET erotic, romance duology –a spin off from the author’s DIRTY RICH series but can be read as a stand alone without having read the previous series. Any important information from the previous story lines and series is revealed where necessary. This is attorneys Gabe Maxwell, and Abigail ‘ Abbie’ Tanner’s story line. Gabe is the brother of Reid Maxwell from the author’s Dirty Rich series. As per Lisa’s style of writing there is a slight cross-over with the Tall, Dark And Deadly series, and the appearance of Walker Security, as well as several characters from the author’s Dirty Rich series.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Abbie and Gabe) HIS DEMAND follows attorney Abbie Tanner as she struggles to stay one step ahead of her past, a past that will come full-circle with connections to our story line hero. Hoping to convince Reid Maxwell to take her case, Abbie will come face to face with the man who would steal her heart. Enter Gabe Maxwell, a powerful attorney, and the man with whom Abbie will fall in love. When Gabe tries to convince Abbie they are stronger together, Abbie believes their time together pulls Gabe into the direct line of fire, and in doing so Abbie struggles with the what ifs and potential disaster for Gabe Maxwell. As the story line progresses, the couple are pulled deeper into a game of betrayal and revenge as both keep secret, sins of the past. I forget everything but him. How can I not? He owns me. That was my fear, but I don’t feel fear now. No fear at all. But there are other emotions, a swell of unnamed emotions overwhelming me. We’re in his territory, his home, the danger and darkness of this night, driving confessions and intimacy to a whole new level. “I’m not just going to fuck you, Harper,” Eric promises. “I’m going to make love to you.”

Love.

I spoke that word to him, so hearing it on his lips shouldn’t send shockwaves through me, but somehow it does. It shouldn’t make my chest expand with fear that I didn’t feel moments before, but it does. I both want him to love me and fear the moment he does. Reid…
Reid pulls me close, his fingers tunneling into my hair before he says, “Ever fucked in a limo, baby?” and before I can answer, his mouth closes down on mine and he’s crazy, hot kissing me.

“Well?” Reid challenges, his lips parting mine after a scorching kiss. “Have you ever fucked in a limo?”

“No,” I say, my hand flattening on his really hard and perfect chest, while my sex clenches in denial of my rejection about to follow. “I have not and I’m not starting now. Have you?”

“No,” he says. “Which makes it all the better that I do it with you. The only woman I plan to ever fuck again in this lifetime.” He kisses me and his hand slides under my shirt and over my breast.

“We paid a lot of money for this private limo,” he says. “Let’s enjoy it.”

“We?” I ask, catching his hand under my shirt but it does no good to stop him. His fingers shove down the lace of my bra.

“Yes. We. What’s mine is yours and just to be clear, you’re mine now.” He latches onto my nipple with his fingers and I moan with the sweet friction.

“Reid,” I whisper huskily.

This jolts me and I grab his hand, lifting my head to look at him. “Are you sure we’re safe in here?”

Those beautiful blue eyes of his meet mine. “I promise, baby. No one will interrupt us.”

“You never break a promise,” I say, stopping him there. “That’s a very marrying quality, by the way.”

CAT…“Cat, I’m not guilty.”

“I know.”

“You don’t,” he says, his voice hard now. “I feel that in you now.” He squeezes his eyes shut. “Damn it.”

“I trust you, Reese, but the idea that other people might not, feels weird which is probably why I just want to shut this down. It’s about control. I’d have some kind of control I don’t have right now but it’s not your fault. We need to end this. Your career matters.”

He lowers me to the couch, and comes down on top of me, like he needs to hold me in place to keep me from running. “You matter. Only you.”

“Your career matters,” I repeat. “It matters to you and me. It matters to us and our future. It matters to our future family. Pay her off.”

“Our family?”

“Yes. Our family, Reese. We want one. Don’t we?”

“Yes, sweetheart. We do.”

“Then let’s go downstairs and end this.”

“Not yet,” he says. “I’m not ready. We’re not ready.”

“We are ready. We’re strong together. We need to show that strength now.”

“You’re strong,” he says. “So damn strong, Cat, and I swore when you said ‘I do’ I’d keep you from having to be that strong. I’m supposed to protect you.”

“We protect each other.”

“I need to feel you right now,” he says, his mouth closing down on mine, a deep drugging lick of his tongue stroking against mine, possessiveness, passion, and something I’ve never felt in Reese in that kiss: desperation and fear. He’s afraid of losing me and I feel that same fear, for no reason. We’re in love. We’re happy. That isn’t going to change because of these allegations.

I kiss my wife, who is my life, and I will let no one take her from me. I want her to know this. I want her to feel, not just hear, how much I love her, and yet, there is a rage of anger inside me I need to bury and control. I have to go downstairs and act like I’m king of the fucking world when everything I love is right here in this room, and delicate, too damn delicate. As surely as I think those words, though, Cat bites my lips, and not gently. “Get out of whatever place you are in your head,” she demands. “Right now. I know what you need, so use me.”

“I never use you, Cat.”

“I use you,” she says. “Every time I need out of my own head, I drive you to the edge until you fuck me the way I want to be fucked. Until you make me forget and,” she grabs the lapels of my jacket, “stop what you’re doing right now. Stop acting like we’re different because that makes me think things that I didn’t think before, that I know aren’t true, but you’re scaring me. You’re making me think this is going to change us.”

“It’s not,” I say roughly. “I’m just angry.”

“Then be angry. Deal with it, with me. Show me.”

I don’t need to be pushed any further. I need her. My mouth closes down on hers, my tongue licking into her mouth in a deep, hungry kiss, and I let her taste everything I feel. My fear of losing her, and us. The gut-wrenching moment I heard the allegations against me. Just thinking about how that must have affected Cat, gutted me. “This is a bad idea,” she whispers, but her voice is raspy, affected, the taste of her hunger damn near on my tongue.

I kiss her, a quick brush of lips, and a lick that has the heat between us damn near explosive. “Still think it’s a bad idea?”

Her hands flatten on my chest but they flex rather than push. “We both know this is wrong.”

“And yet you followed me here.”

“You said that already,”

“You knew what would happen,” I accuse.

“I was angry.”

I certainly know where anger and family collide, in ways I won’t explain to anyone. My jaw sets hard and I release her, putting a wide step between us. “Stay or go, but if you stay, you’re going to end up naked.”

“I know your father’s an asshole, but my mother loves him and my father’s company is now a part of this one.”

“The part where I said that if you stayed, you’d end up naked.” I reach for her and pull her to me. “You did understand that, correct?”

“I don’t scare off that easily. If I did, I wouldn’t be working for your father and under your brother.”

“It’s me I want you under,” I say, molding her close, my hands sliding up her back.

“I’m too young and stupid for business, but I’m just right to fuck?” she challenges.

“I’m warning you, Harper, not talking down to you. And if you’re young and stupid, so was I.”

“You wanted to be here,” she says.

“Yes,” I say, tangling my fingers into her hair. “I wanted to be here, just like I want to be right here, right now, with you.” My mouth closes down on hers once more, a deep thrust of tongue that’s as unforgiving as my father would be if it came down to choosing her or Isaac. It’s all about demand and I expect her to push back, to give me the rejection that sends her to the door and me to the fucking airport. That’s not what I get.

Her hand on my chest doesn’t push me away. She moans and her elbow softens, those perfect curves I’d admired from a distance now pressed nice and close, right up to the moment she jerks back. “My God. What are we doing? You’re my stepbrother.”

I walk her back against the wall, my hands caressing up her ribcage to cup her breasts. “I told you,” I say, stroking my thumbs over her nipples. “I’m not your fucking brother. Not now. Not ever.” I cup her face, lean in and my mouth finds her mouth, and if she thought my tongue unforgiving before now, she was wrong. This is unforgiving. It’s in my blood. I have this sudden need that consumes me. I shove my hand into the top of her dress, fingering her nipple. She makes this soft, sexy sound that has my cock twitching, expanding beneath my zipper. As if she knows, she presses her hand to my crotch and holy fuck, I need inside this woman. I push off the wall and shrug out of my jacket, my gaze raking over the tops of her breasts. I press my cheek to hers, my hand on her cheek, lips by her ear. “I promise to use my tongue in all the right places to make sure you have no regrets.”

She pants out a breath that tells me my words affect her and I’m right there when she does, kissing her again, drinking her in, and damn she tastes good; one part innocence, one part a drug that knows how good it feels. And she does feel so fucking good.

I scoop her up and carry her through the living area to the bedroom, because hell, I don’t know, it just feels like I should fuck her on the bed, though I could have easily kept her right there by the door. I want this woman. I want her in a bad way and I wanted her from the moment I saw her by that pool. I set her on her feet and I pull her close. “This is where I lick and you come on my tongue.”

“You have me now. I’m not going anywhere. I promise.”
“You can’t promise that.”
“I can,” he says, his voice deep, rich, his tone absolute. “I will.”
“People die.”
“Yes, but if I die, you’ll know how much I loved you. You’ll know I’m still with you.” He cups my face. “But you don’t get to get rid of me that easily. Whatever waits for us here, there, or anywhere, we’ll get through it together. That’s what husbands and wives do.”
Warmth and calm wash over me. “Husband,” I whisper.
“Wife,” he replies, his gaze raking over my lips, and lifting. “About that zipper.”
“Take me to our hotel and I’ll show you how it works.”
“I can’t wait that long,” he counters, reaching for said zipper.
I catch his hand. “Cole,” I warn urgently. “You have to wait.”
I’ve barely finished that reprimand before his mouth is crashing down on mine and he’s kissing me, his tongue stroking my tongue. One of his hands settles at the base of my spine, molding me close, all those hard, sinewy parts of him pressed to all the soft parts of me and I moan. Another second later, and my zipper is open, and he’s pressed my hands over my head, his fingers dragging over the thin lace of my barely-there bra, teasing my nipples.
“We can’t do this here,” I whisper, and I mean it, despite the moan that rolls from my throat, as his fingers slide between my legs, heat pooling low in my belly and spreading to the touch of his fingers.
“And yet we are,” he says.
Voices sound just outside the door, and I panic. “Cole,” I hiss.
He reacts, and in an instant, his arm is around my waist and he’s pulling me into a long, narrow stall, shutting the heavy door and locking it. Women, two I think, enter the bathroom, and Cole steps back in front of me, his cheek pressing to mine as he whispers. “I’m going to make you come with them standing right there.”

He kisses me, a quick brush of lips over lips. “I need you naked. I need to feel you next to me.” He rolls me to my back and with that “for now” in the air, he moves and resettles with his lips to my stomach and this is not an accidental connection. My heart squeezes with the certainty that he’s reminding me of how many times he told me he wanted a little girl just like me. It affects me. We had so many plans. We were best friends. We were so many things that happened so very quickly and easily, and then it was gone.

He pulls down my pants, and all too quickly my sneakers and everything else are gone. I’m naked and not just my body. I am so very naked with this man and always have been. But as for my body, I’m not alone for long. He strips away his clothes, and I lift to my elbows to admire all that sinewy, perfect muscle before he reaches down, grabs my legs and pulls me to him. REVIEW: DIRTY RICH OBSESSION is the third instalment in Lisa Renee Jones’ contemporary, adult DIRTY RICH erotic, romance series. This is corporate attorneys Reid Maxwell, and Carrie West’s story line. DIRTY RICH OBSESSION can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story line is revealed where necessary. There is a slight cross-over with the author’s Tall, Dark and Deadly series and the appearance of Royce Walker.

NOTE: There are some scenes of light discipline and spanking which may not be suitable for all readers.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Reid and Carrie) DIRTY RICH OBSESSION follows the building relationship between corporate attorneys thirty-eight year old Reid Maxwell, and Carrie West. Carrie West is struggling now that West Enterprises has been forfeited in a hostile take over, a take over and sale to the Maxwell, Maxwell and Maxwell law firm. Hoping for answers Carrie sets out to ‘seduce’ the man she accuses of stealing the company, but things don’t go according to plan. Fearing the loss of her job Carrie must face the man from whom she was hoping for definitive answers. Enter Reid Maxwell, legal shark, arrogant corporate attorney, keeper of secrets, and the man with whom Carrie will fall in love. What ensues is the acrimonious relationship between Carrie and Reid, and the potential fall-out when the truth behind the take-over is finally revealed.

Reid Maxwell doesn’t do relationships but his attraction to and obsession with Carrie West is visceral and real. The secrets Reid keeps buried are both personal and professional, secrets that will destroy the woman with whom he is falling in love. Carrie West struggles in the face of professional ruin and personal loss until Reid Maxwell makes Carrie an offer she cannot refuse.

The relationship between Carrie and Reid is an enemies to lovers romance between corporate attorneys fighting for domination both in and out of the boardroom. Reid demands submission from our heroine in an attempt to usurp control over all things Carrie West, control that is more of a power struggle than a romantic or equal relationship. There are quite a few issues of trust between our leading couple including the secrets Reid keeps buried, secrets he knows will destroy the growing love between him and Carrie. Reid’s need to discipline Carrie is a constant threat against our story line heroine, a threat he is all too quickly to demonstrate and provide. From unwanted physical altercations, and emotional demands, Reid’s behavior is tantamount to an abuse of power in a supervisory position. In a climate of the #MeToo generation, I am struggling with the hero’s behaviour towards the woman with whom he is falling in love. I get it, this is a story of fiction but sometimes too much is too much. The $ex scenes are erotic, seductive and intense with some scenes of light discipline and spanking.

There is a large ensemble cast of colorful and charismatic secondary and supporting characters including the return of Reese Summer, and Reid’s sister Cat Maxwell (Dirty Rich One Night Stand #1), Cole Brooks and Lori Havens (Dirty Rich Cinderella Story #2), and Royce Walker. We are introduced to Reid’s brother Gabe, and their father Mike Maxwell; business associates, billionaire attorney Grayson Bennett, and Elijah Woodson; Reid’s amazing PA Connie; Carrie’s PA Sallie, as well as Carrie’s father, and his girlfriend Stella. Grayson’s story line is next in DIRTY RICH BETRAYAL.

The world building continues to look behind the scenes of the rich and powerful attorneys: the backstabbing, affairs, corporate greed, and all around betrayal and mistrust.

DIRTY RICH OBSESSION is a story of betrayal, secrets, vengeance and loss. The repetitive use of the word a$$hole as a descriptor to punctuate the behaviour and attitude of our story line hero is over the top with eighty-nine (89) mentions-slightly redundant in the grand scheme of a romance story. The premise is well-written, intelligent and engrossing: the characters are animated and dynamic; the romance is sexy and provocative but I had a few issues with Reid Maxwell’s alpha-hole behavior.

“Why am I here, Reid?”

I drag her onto my lap. “Because I want you here. Because I can’t seem to stop breaking my own fucking rules with you.”

Her hands plant on my shoulders. “And you’re mad at me again? You’re blaming me.”

“Yes. Stop making me break my rules.” I cup her head and kiss her, my tongue pressing past her lips, stroking us both into a needier place, where rules don’t matter.

She moans and sinks into the kiss, and damn it, I love those moans, I’m addicted to those moans. I’m addicted to this woman, and all my good intentions to sate that addiction, fail. I pull my T-shirt over her head and toss it, my gaze raking over her. My hand slides between her shoulder blades, and I mold her close. “This is definitely your fault.”

“Is this where you decide to kick me out again?”

“No,” I say. “This is where we fuck.” I drag her mouth to mine, and kiss her, telling myself that fucking is all this can be, reminding myself of the debt and the secret I legally cannot share. The secret that she’d never stay silent over if she knew.

I tell myself to get lost in the taste of her, defiant and yet submissive at the same time, in that way that defines this woman. I tell myself to just enjoy the moment, and I do. I waste no time getting naked and pulling her down the throbbing length of my cock. I waste no time driving into her. I waste no time getting lost in her touch, her kisses, her moans. And later, much later, when I’ve laid us down and pulled her next to me on the couch, I hold her, listening to her breathing slow and even out. I’m acutely aware that she is a woman caught in the middle of a debt that has to be paid, destined to hate me. It’s why this has to stay just sex. It’s why no matter how deep I go with her, I cannot get too close.
