Review:
Uncharmed by Lucy Jane Wood is a standalone cozy fantasy. Annie Wildwood is a witch who runs a popular bakery, with her life being perfect, as well as she’s a classic people-pleaser. Annie runs Celestial Bakehouse and is well-known for her magical pastries. Annie takes a lot of responsibility, worries about everything, and is part of her coven, not to mention her high society friends. Annie is approached by her Coven leader to look into a 15-year-old, untrained young witch; asking her to care for the troubled teen with uncontrollable magic; and Annie accepts.
Mentoring Maeve, a teenage girl who has just discovered her magical powers and needs guidance; as she is new to her magic, and has a hard time controlling them. They are both sent to a setting in an almost fairytale cabin in the woods; where Annie will do her best to show Maeve how magical life can be. Annie couldn’t be more different from fiery, stubborn Maeve; who was the opposite of Annie, and seeing them form a close bond was so sweet.
Along comes Hal, who is the owner of the house that Annie and Maeve are unexpected guests. Hal is a charming and handsome Warlock, whose calming presence, will in time bond with both Annie and Maeve. Both Maeve and Hal push Annie not having to live up to others’ expectations. They did make a great trio, between Hal, Maeve and Annie. I really did like that both Hal and Annie were falling for each other. I adored Karma, Annie’s familiar, a white fluffy cat. Their found family was so sweet, with Annie, Hal and Maeve bonding together.
After a time, the coven sends Annie a message to have Maeve go to the to the Coven, and she to return home. When Annie joins her Sorciety friends, she realizes that her friends are truly toxic, and she needs to find Maeve to find a way to protect her. Hal was the hero, who brought in all of the Coven and others to fight against the Sorciety.
Uncharmed was a heartfelt, action, anger, emotional story, with lots of happiness, laughter and pure fun. Uncharmed was so very well written by Lucy Jane Wood. I truly loved Annie, Maeve and Hal as they were wonderful loveable refreshing characters. Uncharmed was a very good story, which I suggest you read.
