REVIEW: EMRIK is the sixth instalment in Cyndi Friberg’s contemporary adult LUNAR UPRISING sci-fi romance series. This is human journalist /blogger Chloe Harlow, and Lunar Prime’s top covert agent Emrik’s story line. EMRIK can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary.

SOME BACKGROUND: Eight years earlier, six Pylorian spaceships arrived on Earth asking for asylum claiming they were fleeing their immortal enemy, the wolf-like Morax, but in the ensuing years, the Pylorian began to take control, using their considerable powers to force the governments of Earth to do their bidding. In an effort to protect Earth, the Pylorian’s claim to have cultivated aka created the lunar raiders, a hybrid of three alien species (Morax, Pylorian, Dox Tory) one of which reacts instantly when their destined mate is near.

Told from dual omniscient third person perspectives (Chloe and Emrik) EMRIK follows in the wake of the disappearance of more than twelve human females, thought to be meeting their prospective Lunar Prime mates. Chloe Harlow’s cousin Jenna is one of the missing women, and in an effort to uncover the truth, and locate her missing cousin, Jenna bribes her way onto a cargo ship heading to Lunar Prime but all does not go according to plan when Chloe finds herself facing a man who claims to be her mate. Enter cover agent Emrik, and the man with whom Chloe will fall in love. As Chloe and Emrik travel through space in an effort to locate the missing women, a tale of possible human trafficking and medical experiments will hit too close to home. What ensues is the building relationship between Chloe and Emrik, and the potential fall-out as the team discover more than they had ever hoped to find.

The relationship between Chloe and Emrik is one of fated mates but Chloe is on a mission, and Emrik is willing to bide his time to claim the woman that calls to his heart. Chloe suspects that her time with Emrik may be limited as she struggles to trust the ‘fated bonds’ but together they will uncover the truth, freeing the women who were duped into believing they had found ‘the one’. The $ex scenes are limited but passionate.

The secondary and supporting characters include Emrik’s temporary crew of Kalso and Malzon, the twelve missing women including Riley, as well as lunar raider Prime Commander Vosic Parso, recon-class commander Leko; medic-class commander Benlon, and the woman in charge of procuring human mates Catriona. The requisite evil has many faces.

EMRIK is a story of betrayal, search and rescue, loss, love and acceptance. The fast paced premise intriguing and entertaining; the romance is fated and subtle; the characters are energetic, determined and desperate.

BENLON can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary but I recommend reading the series in order for back story and cohesion.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Benlon and Olarra) BENLON follows in the wake of the genocide of several species propagated by the aggressive Pylorians. Having created several hybrids of alien species, the Pylorians have implemented an ‘expiration syndrome’ meant to be lethal, nanobots when activated, quickly destroy and take down their intended target, their hybrid host. As a hybrid herself, Olarra is all too aware of the discrimination many have faced at the hands of their ‘creators’, hands that are now systematically killing those who have escaped to friendlier planets. Knowing any help will come at a cost, Olarra finds herself the victim of an attempted assassination, and the only help will come from the man who governs several Pylorian cities, a man close to our heroine’s heart.

Meanwhile, Benlon, the medic-class Commander knows that Olarra is his mate but Olarra is a hybrid, and does not have the same capacity to know when her fated mate is near. As Benlon struggles to convince Olarra of their future together, the timing is all wrong as thousands are dying because of their genetics and modified DNA. What ensues is the building romance and relationship between Olarra and Benlon, and the potential fall-out as our heroine is targeted for who she is, and what she knows.

The relationship between Olarra and Benlon is one of fated mates but Olarra is part Pylorian, and Pylorian’s do not take permanent mates. Olarra battles between head and heart, unable to trust the man with whom she will fall in love, having faced a lifetime of discrimination from the people in charge. As Olarra and Benlon’s relationship quickly builds into something more, an assassination attempt threatens to end their love before it has had a chance to grow. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

There is a large ensemble cast of colorful secondary and supporting characters including Zorak and Cara; Leko and Julia: Dracus and Addison, Prime Commander Vosic, and Olarra’s father Governor Kreth.

BENLON is a story of discrimination and racism; genocide and murder, love and acceptance, loss and grief. The fast paced premise is captivating and engaging but all too familiar in reality; the characters are power, struggling, and charismatic; the romance is seductive but fated. BENLON ends on a happily ever after-for now.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Dracus and Addison) DRACUS follows two pathways: the building romance and relationship between Addison and Dracus, and the ongoing war between the Morax, the Pylorians, the Lunar Raiders, the rebels, several outlying species, and the humans of Earth. The Pylorians have begun inhabiting Earth making humans dependant upon Pylorian technology but a new face has arrived in the war between worlds, a species offering hybrid weaponry capable of destroying warships and cities. When close to forty percent of the Guardians have deactivated from the Lunar Raider ‘collective’, Dracus and the his team must uncover the truth, leaving his mate behind.

Meanwhile, Addison Doherty struggles in the face of ‘abandoning’ her life on Earth for a romance and relationship with a hybrid male but Addison’s ‘choice’ is taken away when the Rebels target everything she left behind, taking our heroine prisoner in an attempt to take down the people in charge. Distraught and disheartened, Addison returns to Lunar Prime where she will fall in love with the mate of her heart but an attack leaves Dracus fighting for his life, as the Lunar Raiders must consider from whom and where the betrayal began.

The relationship between Addison and Dracus is one of fated mates, immediate attraction. Dracus knows Addison is his mate but Addison struggles in the face of her humanity, and leaving everything behind. Initially, a little TSTL, Addison returns to Earth believing all would remain the same but Addison is now a target, taking aim at our story line hero. The $ex scenes are intimate and seductive without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

We welcome the return of Leko and Julia, Zorak and Cat, Rogar and Marisol, as well as Leko’s guardian Numid, Commander Vosic, Dr. Benlon and Pylorian whistleblower Olarra Kreth. The requisite evil has many faces.

DRACUS is a story of betrayal and vengeance, discrimination and specieism, secrets and lies, understanding and acceptance, desperation, family, friendships and love. The fast paced premise captivating and entertaining-a combination of Star Wars™ and Star Trek™ technology, AI and sentient ships: the characters are powerful, energetic and strong; the romance is passionate and fated.

Earth has been target in a war for power and control, and the influx of Pylorians, Morax and Lunar raiders means someone is lying, using humans in the process. Leko is determined to uncover Hank’s relationship and involvement with the rebels, a mission that places Leko side by side with his fated mate. Enter Hank’s daughter Julia Levitt, and the woman with whom Leko will fall in love. What ensues is the quick building relationship between Leko and Julia, and the potential fall-out as the Levitt family has been targeted, and not everyone will survive.

Hank Levitt believes the enemy lives among them, and has sided with the Morax, in an attempt to save Earth from future invasion but Hank’s trust has been misguided, and the result places his family, including Julia, in the direct line of fire, a fire that Leko and his troops must stop before it destroys the woman he loves.

The relationship between Leko and Julia is quick to develop- an insta lust/love due in part to fated mates. Leko knows immediately Julia is his mate but pretending to be a human hybrid more confusing to our story line heroine. Julia believes the edicts of her father, and finds herself one of the instruments of potential destruction. Falling for Leko means going against her father’s rulings but our heroine will discover that her father’s directives are those of a power-hungry someone else. As Leko bides his time (a few days) before claiming his mate, Julia realizes nothing can stop the fated attraction between herself and the man with whom she is quickly falling in love.The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

The secondary and supporting characters included Leko’s guardian Numid; commander Dracus; Julia’s friend Addison; Julia’s father Hank, her brothers David, Jess, Billy and Kyle, as well as the return of Zorak and Cat; and Rogar’s mate Marisol. There is something developing between Addison and Dracus. The requisite evil has many faces including Kwamar, Morax warrior and commander.

LEKO is a story of betrayal and lies, obsession and vengeance, racism, discrimination and specieism, friendships, family, relationships and fated love. The fast paced premise is entertaining and moving but unlike the previous instalments, most of the story line takes place on Earth; the romance is heated and intense; the characters are colorful, energetic and determined.

Rogar knew instantly the human female Marisol Conti was his mate but bided his time in the aftermath of an attack against the ship in which Marisol arrived. With the Pylorian and Morax having declared war against the lunar raiders, Rogar and the ruling council on Lunar Prime struggled to ensure Earth understood their need for autonomy but their enemies refused to back down, throwing the lunar raiders head first into a potential war with the human race. What ensues is the building romance and relationship between Marisol and Rogar, and the fall-out as the Pylorians attack Earth, laying blame on the lunar raiders.

Marisol Conti left her position as an ambassador to the UN in the wake of a hostile working environment but never expected to find herself head first on a journey to the moon, and into the arms of her potential future. Rogar Kazal bided his time before claiming his mate but with the possibility of war, Rogar’s need to protect his mate is constantly thwarted by the targeted attacks against the woman with whom he is falling in love.

The relationship between Rogar and Marisol is one fated by DNA and fate. The lunar raiders are a hybrid species, developed with the combination of Morax, Pylorian, Dox Tory DNA, and in this the lunar raiders get the best and worst part of each underlying species. Desperate to claim Marisol as his mate, Rogar sets about to seduce his female in the ways of human dating. The $ex scenes are intimate, erotic and intense without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

Once again, there is a large ensemble cast of secondary and supporting characters including lunar raider / guardian Zorak Savoy, and Catriona Barco (Marisol’s friend), Rogar’s guardian Lokiz; lunar raider Prime Commander Vosic Parso, recon-class commander Leko; medic-class commander Benlon, infantry class Dracus, Secretary of State Danielle Schweitzer, UN Security council member Abigail Brighton, and DC One’s Olarra Kreth.

ROGAR is a story of discrimination, specieism, hatred and intolerance reflecting much of modern day Earth’s inability to cooperate with one another. The character driven premise is fast paced, complex and inventive; the romance is tender and seductive; the characters are lively, spirited and charismatic.

Enter lunar raider Zorak Savoy, and the male with whom Cat will fall in love. What ensues is the building relationship between Cat and Zorak, as the lunar raiders begin to uncover the truth, as they set out to rescue our heroine’s father.

The relationship between Cat and Zorak is one of immediate attraction predicated upon fated mates, and DNA. Cat acknowledges there is definitely something between them but refuses to accept Zorak’s claiming until she fully understands his need to mate. As the story line progresses, Zorak’s need for his mate intensifies with every encounter. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the stop, sexually graphic language and text.

There is a large ensemble cast of secondary and supporting characters including lunar raiders Zorak’s friend Prime Commander Vosic Parso, recon-class commander Leko, munitions-class commander Rogar; medic-class commander Benlon, Cat’s father Matthew Barco; DC One Governor Yaved Kreth, infantry class Dracus, Secretary of State Danielle Schweitzer, Ambassador to the UN and Cat’s friend Marisol Conti, and Morax adolescent Max.

ZORAK is a tale of specieism and discrimination, power and control. A detailed introductory story that reveals some of the history and background between planets, the different species, and the war that destroyed so many lives. The Pylorians are determined to destroy everyone they consider beneath them and unworthy, using Earth and her moon to secure their position within the system. The premise is engaging and entertaining; the romance is captivating and seductive; the characters are colorful, determined and animated.
