Description:
Daroth is at wits end to know what to do to control a generation of children he believes is out of control. What is a King to do?

The rowdiness he can accept, but when it gets too far out of hand he hands over the training of their offspring to Gabriel. The children take to military training like ducks to water, but the parents find they are missing their babies. Their darlings are being drilled to fight, morning, noon and night and no longer smile. They need a chance to be children. Only Daroth can release them from his edict, and he won’t.

With Daroth showing signs of being stubborn, the women decide they are going to help their King reconsider his decision and he soon learns not to under-estimate the power of the bond between a mother and her children.

Review:

Guardians of the Future by M.A. Abraham is a welcome addition to her Elven Chronicles series.  I started this novella, knowing it was going to be a fun book to read, and I was not wrong.  We get to see most of our original lovable Elves, which is always fun, but the children had a major part of this story, and it was a blast to read.  It seemed like I had just started the book, when it was over.   This was a fast and perfect book to read, when you just need something to enjoy, with no stress factor at all and just plain fun.  M.A. Abraham has an uncanny knack, especially in her fun novellas to do just that.

I do have to say, it’s bad enough to have all these kings and their sons (thankfully most were not part of this story), and not know who was who. Well in Guardians of the Future, there are more children then Kings.  Lol  But surprisingly, I wasn’t confused at all.

Having powerful parents, the children, with the oldest being 8 years old, are slowly coming into age where they are learning about their true powers.  But they are also children, and children like to have fun.  The adults find themselves looking over their shoulder quite often when they are quietly walking.  It is too dangerous to be complacent, as the children are always competing and racing around, not caring who is in the way.

Daroth has had enough, and orders Gabriel to gather his men and train all the children what discipline is, as well as to respect their elders.  A few hundred children are then trained to prepare them how to act like warriors, and learn how to defend themselves.  With Daroth being very adamant about this training, it is the women who once again come forth with a plan to lighten up on the children and let them be what they are…children.

This was a fun story from start to finish.  I enjoyed the games the children played, with the wolves and cats.  There was some danger and a near miss mid way that caused us a little worry, though we knew nothing could possibly happen.  You will need to read this book to know what I mean.  M.A. Abraham has a wonderful imagination.

The end was fun, as we watch how these children, when they grow up, are most certainly the Guardians of the Future.  Wonderful story!

Return of the Legend

About the Book: The Elven world is evolving and Daroth is set to guide in a new era, but not as King of the Empire. With the Grey Elven King Ingwër, the Crown Prince Elrohir of the High Elven Kingdom, and King Garoldth at his side they are preparing to recall the Counsel of the Elves. It is a new beginning for their world and they have every intention of reclaiming the glory the Elven Empire had once enjoyed. Can they do it without the knowledge and talents their people once took for granted? Will the fates smile on the Empire and grant them their fondest wishes?

As Kingdoms begin to come together and they begin to rebuild the world as it was known before the wars the Empire reforms. New Life Mates are brought to light and the Elves begin to question how much has been lost through the millenniums and since the time of the ancients. There is no one who can answer the questions forming in their minds. The library of the ancients, which could give them all the information they need, has been lost and with it the knowledge it holds. Or is it?

A random discovery made in a pile of scrolls. Choices with unforeseen ramifications acted on in haste. It all comes to a head as the Elven world evolves, and a message from the past is carried from Garoldth’s Kingdom into the Elven Empire. It brings the words of an ancient warrior to the attention of the Kings who would rule the Empire. It is a missive from one Warrior King to another. There is no questioning whom the message is from. Only one held the name written within the scroll, and he was King of the Empire when the ancients were at the pinnacle of their power. A King meant to rule over Kings. In the history of the Elven people his name was and still is legend.

LOTHRARIEL, WARRIOR KING OF THE ELVEN EMPIRE

******************

M.A. Abraham has done it again with Return of the Legend, a fabulous story that joins all the leaders from each kingdom together to help bring the Elven Empire back to their original glory.  But it will take a legend from the past to put the pieces together.  It is an excellent and fun story, with almost everyone from previous books participating.  Though at times, I had no idea whom many of the sons belonged to which king. Lol  I do enjoy being able to spend each book with our heroes from the previous books, like Eden, Gabriel, Marious, Serinity, Daroth, Haylo, Tamarak, just to name a few.

All the Kings are still in Daroth’s kingdom, and shortly after scrolls are discovered in the Library of the Ancients, with some read to the Kings; they begin to notice that something has changed.  It seems the veil is dropping, causing deep concern.

Gabriel is the first to sense something coming through veil, and we meet someone from the past, Lothrariel, the Warrior King of the Elven Empire from long long ago.  But he is alive, and with his brother, they pass through the veil and join the Kings.  The story focuses on how Lothrariel wrote some of those scrolls to protect all from the then rising demon attacks.  Now that after all these years, the demons have for the most part been defeated, and he comes back to help rebuild the Elven Empire to what it once was.  Together, Lothariel will work with all the kings, but there are some issues that need resolution, including saving Garoldth’s brother being held prisoner for a thousand years by the demons.   The majority of the story revolves around the kings uniting together to share the knowledge to restore the lands to its previous glory, as well as coming up with a plan for rescue.

As is Abraham’s trademark, these books are lots of fun, as more of the young sons of the kings are finding their mates.  With the successful spell by Eden a couple of books ago, Daroth’s elves are all having children and the land is becoming more prosperous.   Each of the Kings want Eden, Tamarak to come to their lands to enact the spell, so their people will start producing children, which has been missing for years.

The story ends well, but also opens the door for Lothariel to be a main part of the next book in this series.   As I noted above, M.A. Abraham writes a wonderful light story of elves, with romance, action, and just plain fun.  Return of the Legend continues this trend.

Catching Up with M.A. Abraham

M A Abraham Banner

The Reading Cafe is happy to welcome back M.A. Abraham. M.A. is is here today to discuss her new release, Embracing the Light. She will also tell us what she has in store for us in 2014.

Interview-Blue

TRC: Hi M.A.  Thank you for taking the time to visit us again at The Reading Cafe, and to give us an update on your new releases, as well as what else you may have upcoming in 2014.

M.A.:  Thank you for having me Barb, always uplifting to be here.  I have a full year planned and it looks like it will be one filled with Elves … I am working on a few new ideas, but they will be for 2015 so not a part of this.  My release list for 2014 is as follows ‘Return of the Legend’ Book 5 of the Elven Chronicles Feb.11/14 … ‘Guardians of the Future’ Novella on the Children of the Elven Chronicles Apr. 23/14 … ‘My Darling, Janice’ Historical Romance June 20/14 … ‘Champions’ Scifi/fantasy Aug 1/14 … ‘King’s Daughter’ Book 6 of the Elven Chronicles Sept 20/14 … ‘Lúthien’s Song’ Book 7 of the Elven Chronicles Nov. 3/14 … ‘Living in the Light’ Dec. 7/14 Novella on the children of the Elven Chronicles.

I know it sounds ambitious, but most of it is written already.

TRC: You have just released a holiday novella, Embracing the Light, which is part of your Elven Chronicles series. Can you please give us a brief description of this story?

Embracing The Light.Dec 3:13jpgM.A.:  Embracing the Light is a novella on the Elven toddlers, yes they are getting older, and so mischievously cute.  It starts in the morning on the day of the celebration and has Gabriel and Eden taking care of the little tykes… and they are a bundle of energy, all 24 or so of them… The story runs through attacks on mom and dad in bed first thing in the morning – to tickle times – to food fights – to fun in the snow – and later in the day the celebration with a few surprises for the little ones and visits from other Elves for the others.  In all there is no other word that suits this story than it being a romp – though I do use the words pandemonium and hedge on using riot at times.

If you have not read last year’s wonderful Christmas novella, Celebration of LIght, it is now free on Amazon & Barnes & Noble

TRC: How many books are you planning for the Elven Chronicles?

M.A.:  At this time, after ‘Lúthien’s Song’ I have 2 full novels in mind, and approximately 4 novellas.  ‘Tratchars’ Book 8 of the Elven Chronicles … ‘Eärwen’s Song’ Book 9 of the Elven Chronicles.  The novellas will probably be as follows: 2 of the novellas about the celebration while the other 2 will be about S’Larea and Larien, but things have been known to change.

Theory in DepthTRC:  Last month, you released a standalone book, Theory in Depth.  Can you give a brief description of this book, and how did you come up with the premise of this novel?

M.A.:  I wrote the main storyline for ‘Theory in Depth’ when I was 16 after watching a documentary on artificial insemination.  (And yes I know how much of a geek that makes me sound.) I was fascinated by the concept and this is what came out of it.  I can’t tell you how much I researched to find out more about the subject and how often I came up empty.

The storyline revolved around the thought… “As man was created from the depths of the seas, it is logical to assume that someday man should be able to return.”  The question that followed was; what if evolution was given a push?  What if mankind could find or develop a formula that proved it could be done?  What if someone connected the genes from specific mammals to create a living person who was capable of living both on land and in the sea, only to find out that there were others like her?  When a scientist does that and realizes what he has done, he is faced with not only the results, but the ramifications.  He cannot tell anyone because mankind does not respond favorably to things like this, and lets face it, he has played God, and that is not a good thing. He raises her alone for 15 years, then realizes they can’t hide forever and puts her in the care of his brother and her cousin thinking she will be safe as she learns how to cope with the world around her, what follows is 3-4 years of discovery where she learns about the others as well as a world where she will never fit in.

TRC:  In this past year, you have written quite a few books. How do you come up with all these ideas, and what is your writing process (time, where, etc)?

M.A.:  I borrow a few from my past, but most I have written fresh.  They just tend to pop up, and crowd into my mind… making that part of my anatomy very uncomfortable to have on my shoulders sometimes.  I will write at any time of the day, or night as the inspiration strikes. I can be talking to a family member about where I am in the book I am currently writing on and be at an impasse, and the story keeps going as I talk, I suddenly know where I am headed and how to get there.

TRC: What are you currently working on now? Also, would you like to share with us what you may have upcoming in 2014?

M.A.:  Return of the Legend’ is finished and already in book form.  I am finished ‘Guardians of the Future’ and it is in edits.  I am writing ‘King’s Daughter’, Lúthien’s Song’, and by the time anyone reads this I will be finished ‘Living in the Light’. I am also working on another that I call ‘Tantalus’ but that is a whole new series destined for either 2015 or 2016.  At this time, however, I am saying please, only one year at a time, lol.  A taste of each?

Return of the Legend’

Elrohir threw back his head and burst out laughing.  He loved the irony of the situation.  All the great scholars of his Kingdom strutted around like a flock of peacocks at the honor the ancients had trusted them with, and the ancients were now telling them that this was not how it was at all.  This was the ancient’s way of showing them how to insert a little humbleness in their lives, that they were no better or worse than any other Elf.  He could live with that, but he wondered how many of the others from the High Kingdom would take the news.

Elrohir got himself back under control and began to read anew.

“The library is not to be moved from the fortress, this is the ancestral location of the scrolls and if you attempt to relocate them you will destroy the spells that keep them fresh and legible.  Remember this always.  We have surrounded our work in stone to keep them safe from discovery.  The beauty that you expected from the world that was reputed to surround the scrolls are not in the building that surrounds them, but the city that surrounds the fortress.  We have left the plans open for viewing so that our vision of grace and beauty can be rebuilt in years to come.

We know the first things the Demons will destroy when we are gone will be the homes we loved.  They will not want us to dwell in beauty.  Their belief is that by destroying all that we value they can destroy our spirit.  They do not understand that there is no value in things, only in the light that guides our souls.

I am Lothrariel, Warrior King of the Ancients.  And to my sons, and their sons, I bequeath this trust.  Keep our faith.”

Guardians of the Future’

Gabriel tossed Marious a sour look and replied.  “I seem to remember one Elven diplomat who was more than happy to join in with a portion of the spell the second time around.”

“Not denying it and my contribution to your class is in line with the others.”  Marious added with a cheeky grin.

“Good, you can help with the training.”  Gabriel quickly decided.

“We have lots of help.”  Larek informed Gabriel.  “Any of the parents who are not otherwise occupied have been ordered to teach.  We are to take turns so no one suffers from the newly allocated classes.”

Gabriel merely grunted as he took note of several of the parents standing watch over the children.  Something had triggered this order over the last three days and he wondered what it was.  He didn’t have to ask.  Marious knew exactly what was going through his mind.

“It started with wolf races, escalated with a Unicorn stampede and ended with them skinny dipping at the river.”

Gabriel winced as he glared at his sons.  They were standing at attention at the head of the first four rows.  They noticed and immediately turned a guilty shade of red as if they knew their father wasn’t happy about something they had done.  They also knew there would be no defense they could come up with that would save them from what he was about to put them through.  They were dead Elves.

‘My Darling, Janice’

“An eighteen year old, school room Miss?”  Jeremy scoffed with an exaggerated air of disbelief.  He had three sisters of his own and he was of the firm opinion that younger sisters were nothing more than complete nuisances.

Martin knew all this, but remembering his favorite sister’s character, he felt compelled to disagree.  “Perhaps I should enlighten you as to what my sister is like Jeremy, for in all fairness, you should not meet her with a biased opinion of the female sex.  Not only has Janice been out of the schoolroom for over two years but she is fluent in five languages.  She is quick witted, intelligent, charming and graceful.  Last year she was the undisputed toast of Viennese society.  I am personally looking forward to her visit.”

These gems of information caught the attention of the young master Jeremy and he leaned forward to quiz his host.

“So why is this paragon of virtue coming to London?”

“One,” Martin held up a perfectly manicured finger to emphasize his first point, as well as to start a count.  “To see me.  Two,” He held up another finger in continuance, “because this year, our baby sister will be introduced into society.  As Janice refused every offer for her hand last year father decided it better to send her away, rather than risk the embarrassment of having two daughters as rivals.”

King’s Daughter’

Aredhel didn’t have time to make a sound as a hand snaked across her mouth.  At the same time another arm wound around her mid-drift to pull her back against a solid body of muscle and steel.  Before she recovered from that surprise she found herself turned around and pressed against the rock wall of the cave.  She moved as if to object and all her objections were silenced with a kiss.

Aredhel’s initial objection died quickly.  How could any man feel as hard as steel, yet kiss with lips so soft?  A million questions cascaded through her mind.  Who was he?  What did he want from her?  Why was he kissing her?  What did he look like?  Did she know him?  Why did he hide himself in darkness?  She wanted to know these things and more.  She moved her lips from his to ask, but was quickly warned not to speak.

“Shh, Aredhel.  If you say anything we are dead Elves.”  Liessen warned.  His voice was no more than a breath in her ear, letting her know how desperately serious the threat around them was.

Lúthien’s Song’

The darkness moved closer and Lúthien stifled a fear-filled whimper.  She could see the Elves who were carrying the danger closer and she felt a need to reach out to the one who was infected with the malady.  Even from where she stood she could tell he was in serious shape and her heart filled with sorrow.

“Haylo,” Lúthien didn’t realize she spoke aloud until Haylo stood by her side and clasped her hand.

“I am here, Lúthien,” Haylo assured the frightened healer.  “We can do this together.”

“His body needs as much healing as his mind.  He will need both of us in the beginning.”  Lúthien spoke as her eyes followed the progression of the group of Elves carrying the liter.

As the bearers of the body grew closer Lúthien began to hum very lightly and a quiet light seemed to shine from her.  She would have to be careful.  She could see the bandages that covered her patient’s eyes.  He had been kept from the healing rays of the sun for a long time.  It would take a miracle to bring him back.  She was determined not to fail.

Living in the Light’

“I almost feel guilty about messing that up.”  Branith admitted in an uncharacteristic statement.

“Well I certainly don’t.”  Eden answered with a chuckle as she shouted a challenge to everyone in hearing distance.  “Last Elf to the top is a rotten egg.”

As quickly as she spoke the words Eden sprinted off towards the top of the hill with most of the rest of their group in hot pursuit.  About half way to her destination she did a quick check over her shoulder to see how everyone was doing and noted Gabriel and Marious standing at the bottom, where they had started off.  Lifting her face to the sky as she continued to lead the pack Eden yelled so they could hear.

“That includes both you and Marious, Gabriel.  Remember, rotten eggs sleep where no one can smell them.”

Marious and Gabriel could not only hear Eden’s taunt, but Tamarak’s laughter.  They exchanged a grin and sprung into action.  They wouldn’t be left in the cold and Gabriel knew that if he didn’t move fast enough Eden wouldn’t only hold to her threat, but the Sentinel would reinforce her declaration.

TRC: Snoop, your cat is almost as famous as you?  Does Snoop help you when you are writing.  🙂

M.A.:  Snoop likes to curl up beside me when he gets the chance and purr, especially if I decide to sit up in bed to write.  Better yet, he likes to drape himself across my shoulders or on my shoulder as I try to write.  Barring the preferable places he will satisfy himself with my lap, or beside me, as long as I have a blanket where he can be covered to keep warm.  As for being as famous as I am, that is a fallacy… he is MORE famous… and he would be the first to tell you so.  He is THE pussycat and the star of my blog. Lol.

Description:
The toddlers are spending the day at Gabriel and Eden’s and as they gather they find a new speed… supersonic… in the way of toddlers the world over there is nothing slower, and they are ready to challenge the world. Marious’ sons are there, proving the adage, “like father like sons” and Gabriel’s sons, are another chip off the block. The girls are not going to allow the boys to show them up, and are quite capable of rising to the challenge. It doesn’t take long for the competition to begin. Of course there are those who don’t feel the need to compete, they are just there for the fun. Some may even get a glimpse into their future, and others are already showing signs of being haunted by powers they will never be able to live with easily.

As the day progresses Daroth begins to welcome his guests to the festival as everyone is interested to see what this new tradition is all about. They have heard a lot about this festival of Daroth’s. Will it live up to their expectations? Would the people in their Kingdoms enjoy it too? All these questions and more are answered in this wild romp as Marious and Branith lead their band of merrymakers into the crowd for a little fun, and with those two in the lead you can’t help but ask, is anyone safe? The toddlers are definitely ready to join the celebration as they follow their leader into the spirit of the season as they all prepare to ‘Embrace The Light’

Review:

Embracing the Light by M.A. Abraham is a Christmas themed novella, in her Elven Chronicles series. Abraham, last year, gave us a look at the Elves first celebration of their version of Christmas, with Celebration of Light. Embracing the Light was a delightful and fun book to read. I found myself laughing early on, and the young children played like the warriors their families are.

All the children from the characters we have come to love, Gabriel & Eden, Marious and Tamarak, Haylo & Larek, Torrent and Serenity, Daroth & C’liandra, etc.  It was hilarious to see them gang up at different times on their parents, and others. Just the shout of “attack” had everyone run for cover. 25 or so little bodies were enough to bury the strongest warrior.

This is a simple sweet enjoyable and fun read at the perfect time for the holidays.  Many of the other kings, and their families showed up to find out for themselves what this annual celebration entailed, and everyone had fun.

It is hard to write a review, as the description above explains all.  I will end with this…if you want a fast book that is mindless fun, nothing tense, pure family type of entertainment and to visit our beloved elves again..look no further then Embracing the Light.   I enjoyed it thoroughly.  M.A. Abraham has given us some joy to spend during the holidays.

Description:
Mystery seems to have it all, youth, beauty, wealth and brains. She has lived on an Island with her father most of her life and has only begun to spread her wings. There is only one problem. She is not like those around her, she is different inside, different in ways no one could imagine, even more so than her father could have imagined. He was the one who created her from his vision, and his Theory in Depth. The theory that made him outcast, the one that started with the words: “As man was created from the depths of the seas, it is logical to assume that someday man should be able to return.”

Adam’s people mingle with those who walk the face of the Earth and there is little to differentiate them from anyone else. They are here to make sure mankind doesn’t stray too close to their cities under the seas. Adam rules, he is of the ancient blood and there are not many like him left. Young, powerful and almost at his prime he hears a story of a young woman who lives amongst those on land. That alone is not that astounding, what brings him to the surface to check on her is that she shares his ancient blood.

Adam realizes when he sees Mystery that not only is she young, she is in need of guidance. She has no idea what she is and that is the real danger, to both her and the world around her. Her very nature will guide her actions and if not taught the right lessons she will become destructive and cruel. She cannot help what she is anymore than any of the rest of his people and the man who created her had no idea what he unleashed into the world. There are few who will be able to control the power she welds, he is the one best fitted for that position

Review:

Theory in Depth is a standalone novel by M.A. Abraham, as she makes a complete change from her Elven Chronicles series. Theory in Depth is sort of a sci fi/fantasy book.  It tells the story of a scientist whose obsession was to create a child out of his theory in depth, using artificial insemination of genes of Home Sapiens/Delphinys Delphis.  His theory was “man was created from the depths of the sea, so why not assume they could return”.  Of course, the scientist was ridiculed for his theory years before, and now he experiments secretly, using his theory on his unsuspecting drugged wife.

17 years later, we meet our heroine, Mystery, who knows nothing of life, other then being on this island with her father. Her mother died at childbirth.  Mystery is beautiful, innocent and somewhat spoiled, though not until she meets her cousin.  The story actually begins with Mystery meeting her uncle and her cousin, Daphne after leaving her island for the first time since she was born. It is Daphne who will take Mystery by the hand and teach her all about the fun she has been missing.  But Mystery’s beauty mesmerizes men, sort of like a siren, causing problems.  The relationship between Mystery and Daphne fluctuates between friendship and jealousy.   Though they both care about each other, at times this is tested by each of their tumultuous behaviors.

Mystery meets the man who will try to change her life, as he knows what she is, and how dangerous it is for her, if she should be discovered.   Adam is our hero, and he is a powerful and gorgeous hunk.  Adam, who is an ancient, lives in the hidden world under the sea, and is the ruler of his huge realm.  He keeps a close watch on the land above to ensure they are not discovered.  He knows Mystery is his mate, and what a volatile relationship it is.  He wants her to go with him to his realm, but she wants her freedom and refuses.  Adam will spend a lot of time over the years to watch over Mystery, and show her she is destined for him.  But her stubbornness, despite her knowing she is falling for Adam, will create a few very dangerous situations.

I found this to be an interesting storyline, with the under the sea realm very nice.  Abraham created some wonderful characters, especially Adam, Rea and Derek. I also liked Daphne.  However, I had mixed feelings for Mystery. At times I really liked her, but other times she would annoy me to no end.  Her stubbornness and refusal to see that Adam loved her, as well as her own feelings; and not heeding Adam’s warnings on  how dangerous it was for her.  I also wasn’t crazy about when Mystery didn’t get her way, she would use her ability to enamor men, or threaten people like Daphne; even if Daphne was a pain at times.   To me her stubbornness in wanting no commitment or keeping her freedom was understandable, but I thought after so many positive things like Adam loving her, Rea befriending her, her father being with her; Mystery was still foolishly stubborn & unrealistic, especially after she was hurt, it became irritating.

I thought Theory in Depth was well written by M.A Abraham, and this was a very different, but fun storyline.  Abraham shows such a wonderful imagination in telling this story, and she has created some wonderful characters that I would love to learn more about, especially in the under the sea realm.

The last thing he expected was someone like Diamond Taylor and his reaction to the dark-haired beauty. She was a complication he didn’t need in his life, but couldn’t help reaching for with both hands.

Diamond and Trent took one look at each other and it was hate at first sight, or was it? No matter what, they were being railroaded into an unwanted marriage by her matchmaking grandparents and the truce they declared to make the last days of her grandmothers life happy were about to bind them in ways neither expected. The question was, could they make it continue to work later, when there was no reason left to pretend?

Review:

Dance, Ballerina, Dance by M.A. Abraham is a sweet story about two people who have devoted their lives to their work, not allowing themselves to open their hearts to anyone. Diamond Taylor is our heroine, and when we meet Diamond, who is a famous Prima Ballerina, she is on her way home to visit her dying grandmother in Australia.

Diamond had a rough childhood that helped pave the way to hardening her heart, though she did love her grandparents.  Diamond lost her family to a fire when she was a child, and to this day, she still has nightmares.  She grew up with her grandparents, but now that she is older, Diamond does not see them much.  She is too busy doing what she loves, being a ballerina, and only her grandmother on her death bed can pull Diamond away.

Our hero, Trent Alexander, is a friend, who lives next door to Diamond’s grandparents.  He meets Diamond immediately after she arrives, and both of them hit it off on the wrong foot.  She is cold and not very friendly, and he thinks of her as a snob.  She considers him rude, and insolent.  Needless to say, they both can’t stand each other.

Diamond’s grandfather plots to bring the man that they have come to care about and trust together with their granddaughter.  A plot is put together for Trent and Diamond to pretend that they have fallen in love to appease her grandmother, who then plans a wedding before she dies.  Neither Trent or Diamond are happy about it, but do go along with the plan, to allow her grandmother to be happy in her final days.  They are given a two week honeymoon trip as a gift.  During these two weeks, they discover each other, and the sexual chemistry between them was strong.  When they return home, Trent has fallen in love with Diamond, and she herself cares strongly for Trent, but is hesitant to commit totally.

A short time later, Diamond is beside herself, as she finds what she has dreaded come true.  When she goes to console herself with Trent, she finds him in the arms of another woman.  What she doesn’t know is that it was unwarranted, an old flame tried to push herself upon him.  Diamond filled with grief, doesn’t let herself look at the obvious and takes a plane back to San Francisco and her ballet troupe.  Trent has no idea why Diamond left, and is heartbroken, but also angry.

What follows is a story of two people, both stubborn, who truly do love one another, but each refusing to give in to their feelings.  Diamond goes back to her career, and privately mourns the loss of Trent.  But a promise to Trent two nieces, brings Diamond back to Australia, and into the arms of Trent, especially when she is suffering from a bad injury that could cost her career. A wonderful sweet story of an unlikely romance, with some rough edges along the way.  The end pulled on our emotions, with a scary scene, which I wish had a bigger more elaborate homecoming.  But Dance, Ballerina, Dance was a different type of book by M.A. Abraham and I enjoyed reading it very much.

Description:
Garoldth is a warrior King or great stature, and he can have no vulnerability. With that in mind he has lived his life. Marriage is for convenience, to make sure he will have sons to follow in his footsteps. He has twelve sons, and all are warriors of great power. He rules his family as he does his people in this he must be firm. He loves his people, loves his family, but still he is alone. All of his life he has known nothing but war and strife. He is King Garoldth and he rules the lands beyond the portal.

Five hundred years before the wars across the boundary are brought to an end Tári meets an Elf who she recognized is her Life Mate. She knows their time is not now, for she has the sight. The call of the bond that declares them one, however, would not be denied. Despite knowing their love was not meant to be in this time they act on it, after, she disappears into the shielding rock caves of her land, refusing to speak the words they must to complete their bond. One hundred years later they meet again, and again the call of their souls to unite is too powerful to resist and they spend their time together in love. This time he can offer his love nothing, caught in an alliance not of his choosing. He is joined with another, one he does not love or want. To offer to take the one he does love to his world would be a great dishonor to her, as well as dangerous.

As Garoldth stands beside his peers on the day peace is brought to his land he sees a movement in the forest beyond. Is it his love, his Life Mate? Has she has come to him again? He is sure of it. He is quick to give chase, but she has disappeared once more. This time he will not be denied. He will seek her to the end of the world. This time he is free to offer her everything, body, soul, heart, mind. They can be one. She will be his Queen, and he will have no other. He will never be forced to live without his love again. This time he can offer her a safe haven, his home and his arms.

Review

Lifemate to a King is M.A. Abraham’s 4th novel in her wonderful Elven Chronicles series.

If you have not started this series, you should begin with Gabriel, so that you can meet all the main characters, as Abraham introduces them.  She continues to get better and better in her storytelling with each book, and she has created such wonderful fun characters you come to care about. The amazing thing about her writing, is she makes them all feel like your own family.  You are invested in what happens to your favorites, and there many for me…Eden, Marious, Tamarak, Gabriel, King Daroth, Serenity, Haylo; just to name a few, and in Lifemate to a King, we can add Garoldth and Tari to our family.

In Lifemate to a King, we learn more about Garoldth and his relationship with his lifemate, Tari.  Because of his kingdom in the midst of long long war, Tari refused to commit totally to Garoldth, and he married someone else, having 12 sons.  We get to meet all the sons.  But centuries later, with his wife dead, and the end of the demon war, Garoldth is now free.  While his kingdom needs to rebuilt, he and all his people are staying in King Daroth’s portal.  Because of Daroth’s foresight, Garoldth and Lexior are sent to help some maidens.  It turns out they are two of his daughters that he did not know about.  Gilraen was happy to see her father, and she also has the sight.  But the other daughter, Aredhel, is a warrior and even if her mother was the one who kept this secret, she did not open her arms to her father.  But Aredhel is another story, as she is destined for someone else in a future book.

What takes place thereafter is Garoldth, his sons and some of Daroth’s warriors make haste as Gilraen’s vision shows Tari in danger.  The focus of the story is when they discover a group of young female elves caged by slavers.  But something is not right, so they have to thread carefully to rescue the maidens.

We will meet a few more Elven Kings from different kingdoms, one being the Grey Elves, who come to Daroth’s kingdom to find his two missing daughters.  This leads to an exciting last half of the book, with sides being taken, betrayals, a revolution in the making, and a possible war.  Do you want to know what happens?  Buy this book.

What I loved about this book, was seeing all of our favorites again, especially Eden, who is still great, with special powers; Marious, who continues to be a riot; Gabriel, who is still the master general; Serenity and her White Dragon; and the rest of the family.

If I have to make one comment that I would have preferred, it would be the introduction of so many new characters at once.  I loved meeting Garoldth’s sons, but there were way too many to keep up with.  I got confused a few times as to who was who.  Then we meet the other Kings and their warriors.  It was just a bit hard to keep up with who belonged to who. However, I am sure Abraham is setting the stage for more wonderful characters in this fun and entertaining Elven world.

Lifemate to a King is another wonderful addition to M.A. Abraham’s Elven Chronicles series.  As she continues this series, each book gets better, more intricate, filled with excitement, entertainment, and lots of humor.  If you love romance, fantasy, wonderful fun characters, and unique Elves, with different powers, then the Elven Chronicles is for you.

Elven Chronicles Synopsis

Daroth, King of the Light Elves has seen a day when all Elves are once more united under one King, though he does not want to be the one who bears that responsibility.  The Demon Wars are over and it is time to begin to bring his people home and start restructuring the Elven Empire.  With his visions to guide him, Daroth begins by working on his own Kingdom, but things keep happening, nothing is running smoothly.

With peace comes the complication of living life, falling in love, securing bonds, raising children, rescuing other Kingdoms, and dealing with a growing power base that no one understands.  Where are all these new talents coming from?  How do they deal with them?  There are legends of Elves who once welded enormous power, but the Library of the Ancients that can answer all their questions has been lost for millenniums.

Secrets abound in the Elven world that no one expects and even a seer as powerful as Daroth cannot begin to envision… walk with me through my world and I will tell you of things only whispered of throughout the realms.  Tales of Dragons and the Elves who ride into battle upon their backs, tales of hidden treasures lost and found, tales of love and beauty, tales of Kingdoms reunited in friendship and the brotherhood of the Elves, and tales of an Empire waiting to be reformed by the new world forged by the blood and visions of an ancient past still waiting to be found.

From out of the past a vision comes of a King, and a world where Elves are free and secure to raise their children in a time of peace.  Will it be as safe as they hope?  Or will their children be forced to relive the battles that made the Empire strong?  Only time will tell the tale.
