Aura by M.A.Abraham -a review

AURA by M.A.Abraham-a review

Aura

Amazon / Smashwords

AURA is a fantasy romance novel written by M.A. Abraham that focuses on a young woman whose need to escape the family will find her travelling back in time to a place that is familiar -yet not. Loved by her step-father and disregarded by her own mother, Aura will pack up her things and head into the unknown where she will awaken several centuries earlier, in a world run by feudal Lords and drunken men.

The reader is taken on a journey that follows Aura as she endeavors to discover where she belongs in the grand scheme of life but Aura’s life has not been full of happiness and sunshine, and to some extent the young woman is a product of her own making.  Like many emotionally neglected children, our heroine will develop an armor that prevents anyone from getting too close, but in doing so the character read as unapproachable and cold-it is only my opinion but others may see something else.  It was uncomfortable at times to ‘watch’ as Aura would deliberately sabotage any attempts at friendship believing she needed no other than herself and her pup.

Aura’s life is not that unusual for many children of second marriages but in this particular case it is Aura’s own family that has a difficult time accepting her. There is something very Cinderella-esque about the story. We are not privy to the intimate details of what transpired between Aura’s mother and biological father, and in that sense, something is missing. Aura is a constant reminder of a bitter past and with that comes the knowledge that she is unwanted.  In this, Aura believes that to survive, she can only depend on herself in the long run and she is the one who truly knows what it is she wants.  We watch as Aura survives in another world for two years (basically alone but for a few days) almost blending into the background but it is her persona on the battlefield that will have everyone standing up and taking notice.

For me, Aura is a difficult character to like.  She can be rude, condescending and sarcastic (and not in the humor department).  She is a feminist at heart-and refuses to give any man the benefit of doubt-even the man who may one day call her wife.  At times, her reaction to men came in the form of a patronizing comment and dismissive attitude. Aura has built a wall that she uses as a shield to protect herself from emotional harm. But in the end, Aura will discover that you can never go home, especially when her heart is lost to a man in another time.

The majority of AURA is a written narrative.   As the character of Aura is alone for a good portion of the novel, it is the narration that carries most of the storyline and we learn very little about the other characters. There is some back and forth with the time-line but there is no explanation as to how or why Aura initially travelled between the times (although Aura and Thorn first meet in a dream) but in the end, it is her faith that must get her to where she wants to go.

Aura is a well-written storyline of one woman’s journey of self-discovery. M.A. Abraham has delved into one woman’s psyche and given us a glimpse into the inner turmoil between what the heart wants and what the mind knows.

King’s Champion by M.A. Abraham – a Review

King’s Champion by M.A. Abraham – a Review

king's champion

Description:
For over four thousand years he has been an Elf to command respect from warriors and Kings alike. He is Torrent, Kings Champion and one of the few to go fearlessly into the dangers beyond the portal to form a bond with the Elven Empire there. He is held in great honor there, friend to the King and his sons. He has been sent by the Light King to relay an offer of friendship and help to bring the wars there to an end, for the King has seen a day when the boundary between their worlds will fail.

Serenity has shrouded her life in mystery. None save the King knows what she is or what she has done, for she walks a path she would rather none know of. She is an Elf of great beauty and great talent and with one look of her silver blue eyes she has brought one of the greatest Elves her people have known to his knees, for they are Life Mates, and though he would charge into her life and take it over, she would only have him once he has come to learn her ways. Theirs is a battle of wills and learning to bend with the raging winds of fate.

Review:
King’s Champion by M.A. Abraham is the 3rd novel in her Elven Chronicles series.  This story revolves mostly around Torrent and Serenity, as they are this book’s lifemates, though every character we have loved from the start of this series, plays a major role in the story.

As much as Torrent is the King’s Champion, and a worthy match for the magnificent Serenity, this book belongs mostly to her.   I loved most of the women of the Elven Chronicles, with Eden being my favorite. However in King’s Champion, Serenity rises up to match Eden as my favorite heroine.

As the story begins, Daroth gives Serenity an assignment to meet with King Garoldth.  Torrent has already left for the portal to bring the villian of Marious Story, Brennor home to meet his fate.  They will eventually meet, but Serenity is on a private mission that even Torrent cannot know.  Torrent is very forceful in showing Serenity how he feels, and his determination to rule her to his way.  He has met his match in Serenity. Lol

The main story though is to help King Garoldth, and his kingdom, which is in a different portal.  It is being destroyed by demons, and the female population is almost gone, having been captured and destroyed by the demons.   Daroth has offered his help to save Garoldth’s people, with his warriors, and the Dragon fleet.  Serenity is the major player, as she will handle bringing all the Dragon riders, and Dragons forth to fight and destroy the demons in Garoldth’s kingdom.  To ensure the elves from this kingdom are safe, Serenity informs them they must all leave through the portal, before the Dragons arrive for battle.

Spells by Eden to help increase the population will cause some havoc, but this is a fun part of the story.  Seeing Serenity with her Dragon Riders, and mostly meeting the wonderful Dragons was great.  I loved Alleria, the White Dragon, who belonged to Serenity, and enjoyed reading about the Red, Black, Silver, & Gold Dragons.  For whatever reason, I was not a big fan of Torrent, who does not match Gabriel, Marious, Daroth, Larek as lifemates, but I adored Serenity.   It is wonderful to see all of our favorites again, and the storyline was fun, exciting and I enjoyed reading this book very much.   In King’s Champion, M.A. Abraham keeps the flow and fun going in this wonderful series.

Celebration of Light by M.A. Abraham – a review

Celebration of Light by M.A. Abraham – a review

Celebration of Light is a cute and fun Christmas short story by M.A. Abraham. This follows Abraham’s latest book Kings Champion, which is part of her Elven Chronicles series.   Below is the official description, followed by my review.

Description:
Haylo has grown up in the human world where each year they celebrate the Christmas season. There is; however, no Christmas in the Elven world. Instead, the Elven females have decided to take the idea and change it into something for their own people. They are not about to tell their Life Mates and sweet hearts though. Keeping their plans secret is proving to be too much fun. The Elven male population can tell something is being plotted. Gabriel is sure of it, Eden is keeping secrets and it doesn’t take them long to figure out what is going on. Sevil confirms it. Watch how the season comes together, the planning, the games, the craftiness practiced, all in the name of bringing the Elves together for the Celebration of Light.

Review:

Having read the entire Elven Chronicles series thus far, I thought this would be a perfect read, as we all seem to be getting into the Christmas mood.  M.A. Abraham does not disappoint.  It was fun to meet up with all characters we have come to love from this series, and they were all there.

Winter is here, end of year is coming, and we learn early that the men suspect their wives of plotting something, and they try everything to find out what they are up to.  From Gabriel, to Daroth, to Marious, Larek, they all try to get their lifemates to slip, to no avail.  The ladies are working together and they know their mates are trying to discover what they are planning.

What are they planning?  Since Haylo grew up in the human world, she talked about how much fun Christmas was for children and for adults.  But the Elven world does not celebrate anything like this.  The ladies figure the men would stop them, so they plot to create a festivity for all, similar to the human Christmas but different, created more for the Elves.  They plot all the things they have to do:  the gifts, the food, the baking, the decorations.  Eventually the men do find out, through Sevil’s sneakiness.

But this is fun story, and they decide to help their mates, and they too go out to buy gifts.  It was fun as I said to see them together, to watch their camaraderie, the closeness of the ladies.  Rather then mention a spoiler, if you have not read Kings Champion, the ladies do have something else in common.

There was one section that caused some grief, endangering one of them, but in any
Christmas story, all should and does turn out well.  They all come together in a Celebration of Light.   M.A. Abraham allows us to share some holiday fun time with her heroes and heroines.  This is a fun short story, in the Christmas spirit and a fast read.

Marious’ Story by M.A. Abraham – a Review

Marious’ Story by M.A. Abraham – a Review

Description:
Marious is an Elven diplomat and a favorite of the Light Elven King Daroth. It was he who had been chosen to accompany his uncle Gabriel to gather their people to bring back home and now he has once more been chosen to escort his uncle and new life mate Eden to rescue the Sentinels in the Dark Elven King’s lands. Not all has gone well though and he is now being dispatched by the King to travel into the Wild Lands to bring back an Elven maiden that has been seen in visions helping the now very pregnant Eden in her task.

Tamarak has lived in the wild lands almost her entire life, she has been left alone to face the dangers of land and inhabitants and she has done well just to be able to survive. Where she goes her birds follows, her snow owl Elsa and those others that she calls to her aid in times of danger. She is wily and the prettiest little Elf Marious has ever seen outside of his homeland. She is also his soul mate, but she will need time, time to get used to the changes being brought out of her solitary life in the wild lands and in the midst of the Elven Empire. Time to accept that she no longer has to be alone, and he finds she is willing and eager to learn, though not with just anyone.

Review:
Marious’ Story
by M.A. Abraham is the second book in her Elven Chronicles series. When we left off from Gabriel, the first book in the series, Marious had left to find the girl who talks to birds, as Eden needs her help to save the Sentinels in the land of the Dark Elves.

We pick up in Marious’ Story, with him looking for the girl, Tamarak, with his travel companion Sevil, a dark elf.  Both have had a hard time, being attacked by a bear, birds, snakes, and Mariouis suspsected that it was Tamarak, who has an infinity with animals, who was behind the attacks, to make them leave her territory.  The attacks were not meant to harm them, more to annoy or scare them away.  When they finally capture her, Marious does all he can to keep Sevil away from Tamarak, as Marious knows right away she is his lifemate.  What ensues for a short period, is the trip back to the dark lands, that is somewhat similar to Gabriel bringing Eden back to his homeland.  Tamarak is sarcastic to both, and despite Marious sense of humor, she still tries to find ways to run away.  But because Sevil is not nice, and she recognizes that he is a dark elf, anytime he comes near her, Tamarak runs to Marious for safety.

Once they return to the dark land, where Gabriel and Eden await them, she runs into her mother and uncle, whom she hasn’t seen in 500 years.  Her mother has changed, and Tamarak senses this.  But her uncle welcomes her with open arms, and such love.  But because she is a valued member of his family, he wants her to mate with one of the Dark Elfs.  Everytime they come to meet Tamarak, she runs to safety to Marious’s arms.  He is the one she feels free and safe with.  He is the one she knows in time is her lifemate.  Gabriel and Eden took a lot longer then this.  However, it isn’t easy for Tamarak or Marious, as Torrent, Tamarak’s uncle does not approve of Marious and is determined to keep them apart.

While in the Dark Lands, Tamarak works with Eden to bring in the birds to save the Sentinels, and Eden now needs to go back home, as she is due momentarily to give birth to triplets.  Of course, Tamarak goes with them, and so does Torrent.  It was nice to spend time with many of the characters from Gabriel, such as Eden, Gabriel, C’liandra, King Daroth,Haylo, as well as meet some new characters such as Torrent, Serenity.  The villain in this book is Prince Brennor.

Once again, M.A. Abraham continues the story of the Elven Chronicles, and gives us another wonderful romance.  I loved Marious and Tamarak together; loved seeing Eden have her triplets; enjoyed Gabriel with his children, his nephew, and his strength to help fight off the oncoming evil villain that threatens Tamarak.  I totally loved learning about all the things Tamarak can do with the birds, how she can talk to them, and their protection and loyalty to her, as well as loving Elsa, the owl.

M.A. Abraham takes us back to the world of Elves, but most importantly, she brings us back to a story that is fun, entertaining, and total pure romance.  I thoroughly enjoyed Marious’ Story.

Marious’ Story by M.A. Abraham – Cover Reveal-Pre-Release Giveaway

Marious’ Story by M.A. Abraham – Cover Reveal-Pre-Release Giveaway

Marious’ Story will be released on August 6, 2012.  This is the second novel of M.A. Abraham‘s The Elven Chronicles series.  Below is an excerpt from the book, as well as the details of the special promotion Giveaway being graciously offered by M.A. Abraham!

Excerpt:

“Now that,” Marious spoke as he walked through the door and tossed a wide smile at the entire assembly before him.  “I was willing to place bets on.  I have brought you a small basket of strawberries and honey-laced cream to go with them.  If I had had any idea there were this many here I would have brought more.  No matter, these are all for you.  Along with a little surprise to set off your day.”  With a bow Marious held out a basket filled to the brim with beautiful ripe, red strawberries, covered with a cloth.

Tamarak set down her flowers as she took the basket and sat on a chair, as she uncovered the container she gave a cry of delight.

As Marious had said there were fresh picked strawberries in the basket as well as a dipping container filled with heavy sweet cream.  On the very top of it all were three white owl feathers.  A smile spread across Tamarak’s face as she raised brilliant shinning eyes at Marious.

“Feathers from Elsa.  They could not have been easy to get.

“No, but for you, worth every bit of effort it took.”  Marious openly flirted with her.  His efforts didn’t go unnoticed.  The three Dark Elves frowned.  The Duke Lexior gave a big grin of amusement, and the Prince Brennor narrowed his eyes in a menacing fashion.

Serenity chose that moment to join their group and Marious brought out another small basket from his other side and graced her with a bow and a smile, as he had with Tamarak.  Making it look as if he had not just played favorites.

“My beautiful Serenity.  You leave us all standing in awe of your great beauty.  I know you do not like strawberries, so I brought you this instead.”

Marious held out the basket to her and Serenity smiled as she teased.  “Honey laced cream in here as well?”   She had heard him list the contents of the other basket.

“Nothing else would do for someone so precious.”  Marious continued to sound as if he was flirting.

Serenity uncovered the basket to find it filled with raspberries and she smiled.  Her reaction was more reserved than Tamarak’s had been, but no less gracious.

“You know how I love raspberries.  You are a sweet boy.”  Serenity purred.

Serenity dove into her berries, dipping one into the cream and popping it into her mouth with a look of ecstasy on her face.  She then dipped another and offered it to Torrent, who tossed her a wicked look as he smiled into her eyes and accepted the treat.  He slowly lowered his lips over the fruit and allowed his tongue to caress the length of her fingers as he slowly sucked the fruit into his mouth.

Serenity’s eyes widened as she allowed him to lick the cream from her hand and his lips.  She would have offered to share with anyone else but no one appeared interested, for the look in Torrent’s eyes warned them all off.  Serenity gave him a look of suspicion and went to join Tamarak.
