REVIEW:DARK DEVIANT is the fifth instalment in Kristen Luciani’s contemporary, adult VENGEFUL VILLAINS dark, erotic, Mafia romance series focusing on the Malikov Bratva. This is Danil Malikov, and pianist Larysa Moroz’s story line. DARK DEVIANT can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty but I recommend reading the series in order for back story and cohesion as there is an ongoing plot line throughout.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Larysa and Danil) DARK DEVIANT follows in the wake of a one night stand. Approximately two and a half years earlier Larysa got some bad news, ended up in a hotel room with a stranger, only to be awoken by even more devastating news, and ghosted the man she would never forget. Fast forward to present day wherein Larysa and her family have been targeted by the Malikov Bratva for the sins of someone else. The Malikov Bratva and the Moroz family are at war, a war that is quickly spiralling out of control. Larysa Moroz is a pawn between the two warring families by it is her two year old daughter Daniela that may be the biggest loser of them all. As Danil battle between head and heart discovering he had a daughter with his one night stand, the larger issue is that two warring families are now connected by a two year old child, and another family has taken aim at everyone involved. What ensues is the building but acrimonious relationship between Danil and Larysa, and the potential fall-out as betrayal, vengeance and greed are at the heart of a war that should have never been.

The relationship between Danil and Larysa begins as a one night stand but Danil has no idea as to our heroine’s identity. Fast forward to present day, the Malikov Bratva believe the Moroz family are guilty of killing their beloved mother, and the Moroz family believe the Malikov’s are trying to destroy them all. Larysa is about to become fodder in a war not of her making, a war that is predicated upon secrets and lies, and a need for control. The $ex scenes are aggressive and intense, and not without some issues of questionable consent.

There is a large ensemble cast of colorful, energetic, and powerful secondary and supporting characters including many of whom we have met in the previous story lines. Not everyone will survive.

DARK DEVIANT is a story of power and control, betrayal and vengeance, greed and deceit, family and relationships, acceptance and love. The fast paced premise is intriguing, raw and gritty; the characters are animated and impassioned; the romance is dramatic and tragic.

The secondary and supporting characters are colorful and powerful, energetic and mad. We are introduced to Alessandro’s uncle Don Thomasso Romano, and his cousins Leo and Luna; Don Matteo Ricci; Capo Enzo Bianchi, Capo Mario Bianchi, and housekeeper Maria. The requisite evil has many faces.

VIOLENT ASCENSION is a familiar story of power and control, betrayal and vengeance, madness and mayhem, acceptance and love. The fast paced and dramatic premise is comparable to many Mafia-style story lines I have read in the past yet is also entertaining and captivating. The characters are aggressive and animated; the romance is dynamic and spirited. VIOLENT ASCENSION ends on a HFN-Happy For Now-many of the conflict issues have yet to be resolved.

I feel her presence the moment Isabella is nearby. That’s the way it’s become between us the past few weeks. In Jane Eyre There’s a moment where Mr. Rochester tells Jane that he feels the presence of an invisible string connecting the two beneath his left rib. He claims with fervor that if that tether ever snapped, he’d bleed inwardly while she would forget he ever existed. Rochester was old, hardened by the world, and prone to outbursts of anger; while Jane was young, innocent, and talented. The world before her, his criminal past behind him; if he didn’t protect the frailty of that string with his life, then he would lose her forever.

When I first read it, I thought it was sentimental dribble. I saw it as a passage of words to muddle through in order to get to the end of the book. At this moment, I have a different view of that passage. Charlotte Bronte herself must have felt that snap or she was an emotional savant. I feel the snap of the string that kept Isabella in my universe the moment I hear her soft steps turn the corner. She’s holding my mother’s pistol and it seems fitting. I’d want her to have it.

The betrayal in her eyes lets me know that she heard what the bastard just said and she’s more than pissed. She’s hurt. I lied to her, now she’ll be more determined than ever to escape. aToo bad I’ll never let her go. I need her too much. My need has nothing to do with the Romano Ascension but everything to do with the warmth of her sun. I won’t live in the cold without it.

“Father?” Her eyes stay focused on me, and I realize she’s asking me if what she heard is true. Even now, she’s praying I’m not as monstrous as I appear to be. But I am.

I’m dismissed before I can even respond.. Her attention turns to Matteo as she closes in on the truth.,

“You’re Matteo Ricci?” Her voice is strong and sure. Her chin held high, she faces the man that created and abandoned her.

Matteo eyes her carefully. He assesses her with a detached interest. I wonder if she feels it. I pray to God her anger at me does not distort her discernment. That’s a skill I’ve admired her for since we met. She read me like a book within moments of meeting me.

“I am. Come closer child. I want to have a good look at you.”

“Stay right where you are.” I bark. “Don’t move.”

Matteo scowls. “Is this how you’ve been treating my daughter? Like some dog you can call. She’s a Ricci and she should be treated like a queen, something you promised you would do.”

His feigned care is starting to really get under my skin. He’s up to something, and I’m not letting Isabella anywhere near him until I know exactly what it is. POSSESSIVE CAPTOR is a quick read; a story of betrayal and vengeance, power and control, obsession, love and acceptance. The fast paced premise is inviting but there is no resolution to the acrimonious relationship between the Chief, Raniero and Calliope-the Chief becomes more of an afterthought who is apparently unfazed by the entire situation; the characters are dynamic; the romance is provocative but there is something missing -no spark, no palpable attraction but more of a forced proximity necessity.

After the assassination attempt against Gabriel Aguirre, Sol found herself a slave to Jeronimo Dominguez. Months of abuse and torture forced Sol to give in and give up until the day she was abducted by the man she once loved. Calling himself El Rey, Gabriel would imprison our story line heroine, refusing to accept that she was as much of a victim, if not more until a closer look by his cousin Paola would reveal there was more to Sol’s story than he could have ever imagined. My name is Crimson Syn, not really, but what fun is it to use my real name. Instead I’ll use my inner goddess’ name, it’s much more fun that way. I grew up in New York City where I had a wonderful education, loving parents and awesome friends. What more could a girl ask for?

I started writing at the age of sixteen. The first romance I read was Stephanie Laurens’ Devil’s Bride. Since then I have been influenced by dozens of flourishing romance authors and even more dashing and daring rogues. I must say it, but Fifty Shades was not my first erotic romance, nor did it influence me to start writing them. If you’ve never read Mary Balogh, Elizabeth Hoyt, Lisa Kleypas, Bertrice Small or A.N. Roquelaure’s Sleeping Beauty trilogy, then you’re missing out. Those were my sweet introductions to erotic romance, and boy were they hot.

So here I am, after reading so many wonderful stories, I have too many sinful tales of my own not to share. I like my alphas rough and possessive, and I have no shame in saying it or writing it. I had delightfully wicked teachers growing up, their books took me to new worlds and brought me new loves. So, I want to do the same for you. Beginning in the kitchen Giulia makes herself at home the opening of several new ‘legitimate businesses’ finds Giulia managing the MC bar, a position that places her in the direct line of fire. Having promised Giulia she would always be safe, Nyx struggles in the face of an attack against the woman with whom he is falling in love.

The relationship between Giulia and Nyx begins acrimoniously. Nyx once had a crush on Lizzie Fontaine but the return of Giulia gave Nyx pause about what he wanted, going forward. Battling between head and heart, knowing he was no good for the woman that called to his soul, Nyx struggled when Giulia found herself facing a psychotic killer determined to take Giulia against her will. The $ex scenes are intimate, erotic and provocative but the over use of a certain four letter word (45 times) was a bit much even for an MC story line.

The secondary and supporting characters include MC president Rex, treasurer Maverick, mechanic Dog, secretary Steel, Link, Storm,and several clubgirls including Giulia’s nemesis Cammie.

NYX is a story of family, friendships, betrayal and vengeance. The premise is dramatic, dark and gritty; the romance is energetic and intense; the characters are broken, desperate and determined. NYX ends on a bit of a cliff hanger-you have been warned.
