Description:
Every gentleman has his secrets…

London 1821

After years of marriage to a selfish man who preferred gambling to his young bride, Jane, the widowed countess of Stanwell, now seeks what she was long denied-a satisfying lover. Naturally, a lady needs a list of eligible candidates, which doesn’t include the dangerously handsome (if far too arrogant) Gareth Ramsey…until he steals a sinful kiss from Jane’s all-too-willing lips.

Reputed as an arrogant barrister, Gareth’s real occupation is as a spy in the service of His Majesty, and his suspect is on Jane’s list of possible lovers. With her life in danger, there’s no safer place for Jane than with him-and in his bed. But Jane is as distracting as she is infuriating, and keeping her by his side while he pursues his mission might just endanger them both…

Review;

Tina Gabrielle has done it again. At the Spy’s Pleasure is book 2 of her In the Crown’s Secret Service series and is just as intriguing a read as her first book A Spy Unmasked. I’m really enjoying this series by Tina for the way she writes, creates her characters, builds a world filled with mystery, intrigue, danger, suspense, and keeps me turning page after page waiting to see what’s going to happen next.

We first met both Jane and Gareth in the first book, but they played the roles of secondary characters and had little interaction with each other. However, even though their interaction was brief, you could feel something brewing between. What was brewing between Jane and Gareth in the first book carries over into At the Spy’s Pleasure and goes from brewing, to percolating, to smoldering. Ms. Gabrielle writes a very steamy and passionate romance for these two would be lovers and I adored every minute. Jane and Gareth are not only passionate, but fun and playful with each other and also understand one another very well. They are very well matched, but both refuse to see just how perfect they are together until it’s almost too late. Watching their relationship grow and seeing their feelings change for one another as Gareth continues his mission, makes the reader wonder what will happen should Jane find out the truth. Like any well written romantic story, the lady love always finds out the truth and then the fun really begins.

I quite enjoyed both Gareth and Jane. Each are well written, developed characters who were able to carry the story all on their own. However, we do have a supporting cast who aid the reader in learning more about our couple. Gareth had my toes curling and me swooning from his first scene. He’s the type of character that has that commanding presence that makes one stand up and take notice. He’s handsome, intelligent, well versed, charming, knows how to treat a lady, and has a dangerous and mysterious job. Who wouldn’t fall for a man like that. Plus, on top of all that, as I read this story, Gareth’s voice to me was that deep sexy baritone range that had me sighing every time he spoke to Jane. His voice reminded me of someone in a tv show or movie but for the life of me I can’t place which male actor it is. I shall keep thinking and get back to you when it comes to me.

As for Jane, she’s a treat of a character for an historical romance. I like that she’s not our typical lady of the times, but instead has decided to take command of her own life and do with it as she pleases and not what society dictates she should do. Deciding she wants to take on lovers after what she endured first from her husband and then after his suicide is fun to watch. I enjoyed the scene where she’s at a ball and scoping out possible lovers. It reminded me of my younger days going to the bars and scoping out the guys. The scene had me LOL as she talked about her possibilities with her friend. Oh the things we do when in come’s to the opposite sex. 😉

I’d say Tina Gabrielle has another hit on her hands. At the Spy’s Pleasure is a fun, passionate and very steamy read. Gareth and Jane pull the reader into their story, and keep your interest to the very end. The cast of secondary characters helps to add another layer to their story and give us more insight into our hero and heroine. Ms. Gabrielle seems to have a knack for the historical romance genre and proves it to us once again. She manages to always make me feel as though I’m a part of the cast playing the part of voyeur who is privy to secretive information, and is just waiting to see when the others will find out what I already know. I can’t wait for Tina to continue with this series, fingers crossed that she will.

Until then, happy reading everyone.

The Liar by Nora Roberts – a Review

The Liar by Nora Roberts – a Review

The LiarAmazon / Barnes & Noble / Kobo / The Book Depository / BAM

Description:
Shelby Foxworth lost her husband. Then she lost her illusions …

The man who took her from Tennessee to an exclusive Philadelphia suburb left her in crippling debt. He was an adulterer and a liar, and when Shelby tracks down his safe-deposit box, she finds multiple IDs. The man she loved wasn’t just dead. He never really existed.

Shelby takes her three-year-old daughter and heads south to seek comfort in her hometown, where she meets someone new: Griff Lott, a successful contractor. But her husband had secrets she has yet to discover. Even in this small town, surrounded by loved ones, danger is closer than she knows–and threatens Griff, as well. And an attempted murder is only the beginning …

Review:

I absolutely loved Griffin Lott!!! He made a wonderful hero in this one, and Nora’s characterization of him for this story and it’s heroine was spot on. Griffin Lott is everything every woman could want in a man and partner. He’s loving, patient, intelligent, loyal, trustworthy, hard working, knows his way around power tools and landscaping, has a sense of humour, loves kids, oh hell he’s just my perfect man. 😉 I think I need to speak with Nora and see if Griffin was modeled after any single man she may know, cause if he was, I need to meet this guy. 😉 Okay, okay, enough about me and my perfect guy, onto the rest of my review.

Like I said I loved Griffin and how he was with our resident heroine, Shelby and her daughter Callie. His very first interaction with both women had me swooning and I knew I’d be a goner for their romance as it played out over the course of the story. I really liked the fact that Nora didn’t rush this romance, but played it out in a very thoughtful and smooth fashion. After everything Shelby endured with her rat of a husband, oh wait, was her really her husband???? Let’s just say her so called hubby went by many names, depending on which personality he needed to portray at a given time. Let me just say, if I had to deal with what Shelby did with Richard, I’d be a little gun shy too if another man suddenly was interested in me. However, Griffin didn’t push or prod Shelby, instead he saw what she needed and gave it to her no matter how he felt and knew what he wanted with her and Callie. Griffin fell for Shelby at first site and knew she was meant for him, and Callie deserved to have someone like him for a father. He just melted my heart in every scene he shared with Callie, so sweet and adorable, and the room he created for Callie in his house just did me right in when he shows Shelby the finished product just before he proposes to her. Loved that scene too!! What can I say, Nora Roberts out did herself with The Liar, she shows just why she’s the queen of contemporary romance.

On top of a perfectly written romance between Shelby and Griffin, in typical Nora fashion she weaves a mystery filled with danger, suspense and intrigue that surrounded our hero and heroine. Every time I think I knew who was spying and following them around Nora goes and does something to change my opinion. I was on the edge of my seat by book’s end to see who this person was, and I was very surprised to find out just who it was. The reveal was perfectly timed, and the action moving forward to the end of the book was fast paced and very nerve wracking for me.   Would Griffin and her brother Forrest get to Shelby in time, would Shelby and Griffin get that HEA they both deserve, would Shelby see her daughter again??? These questions were all running through my mind as the last final chapters unfolded. By the end of this book I felt like I just finished running a marathon, it was that intense. I love the way Nora can write a beautiful romance like she did in The Liar, but still manage to weave into it a mystery filled with danger and intrigue that keeps the reader on the edge of their seats. She never ceases to amaze me with her ability to write a good and proper story.

The Liar is another excellent addition to Nora’s collection of stand alone novels. It had everything in it that I deem a well balanced romance. It had a little of everything; well written characters and storyline, secondary characters that helped move the story along by adding humour and giving more insight into Shelby and Griffin, danger, intrigue and suspense, but most importantly a very satisfying HEA complete with a beautifully written proposal scene that had me ooooing and awwwwing my way through it. As I said earlier Nora was in true Nora fashion when she wrote The Liar, and for anyone who’s a fan of hers won’t be disappointed with this addition to her collection of wonderful stories.

Until next time, Happy Reading everyone!

Can’t Resist a Cowboy by Elizabeth Otto – a Review

Can’t Resist a Cowboy by Elizabeth Otto – a Review

Cant Resist a CowboyAmazon / Barnes & Noble / Kobo

Description:
He’s always been her weakness…

Injured and discharged, Marine Levi Haywood has returned to his family’s ranch to heal and start a new life. After all, once a cowboy, always a cowboy. The only problem? Life at the ranch has moved on since he joined the service, and suddenly his role in the family business is much less clear. And things get a lot more confusing when the woman he left behind returns home.

Carrie Lynn Waite has never known a time when she didn’t love Levi. They were childhood sweethearts, but because of her health, she was forced to move to the city, away from the ranching life. Now Carrie’s come home only to learn her family’s ranch is in trouble and Levi is back, along with an undeniable attraction she can’t resist. But some things never change, forcing Carrie to choose the future laid out before her…or the cowboy she could never resist.

Review:

Loved this one, and no not just because it’s got a sexy cowboy in it. However, that was the icing on the cake. 😉  Can’t Resist a Cowboy is book three in Elizabeth Otto’s Paint River Ranch series. Now, I haven’t had the opportunity to have read the previous two books in this series, but it wasn’t a problem for me. This one could be read as a stand alone for anyone not familiar with this series like I was, but let me tell you I’m going back and reading the first two books. I really enjoyed this story and Elizabeth’s writing style and storytelling.

Can’t Resist a Cowboy is a story about love, love lost, a second chance for love again, friendship, and family relationships. In Can’t Resist a Cowboy we get to meet and learn all about who Levi Haywood and Carrie Lynn Waite are. I enjoyed both characters and found them to be perfect for one another. Levi for me was the perfect hero for this story. He’s strong, compassionate, loyal, loving, understanding, patient yet persistent, and sexy as all get out. Even though he came back from the war injured, not sure if he’d ever walk again, he battles through it and knows what it’s like to feel broken and lost. Now he’s moved forward with his life, but is still missing one thing, his ‘Sunshine’, enter Carrie Lynn, his childhood sweetheart. Carrie Lynn for me is the perfect match to our hero Levi. She’s smart, independent, loyal, feisty, loving, compassionate and understanding. Even though Carrie Lynn had to move away from the ranch because of her health, she never stopped loving anything about it. That’s why this time it’s even harder for her to have to leave again when the time comes. Even though she’s loosing her sight and is afraid, she admits she still loves Levi, never stopped, but is afraid to take the chance because of her failing sight and diabetes. Levi, having been where she is, knows what it’s like to feel that way and is the one who figures out her secret about her eyes. Once he finds out he’s determined to make her see they can have everything they’ve ever wanted and she doesn’t have to be afraid of what’s to come. He’ll always been there for her no matter what. The way Levi accepts her for who she is, and how Carrie Lynn accepts Levi for who he is after all that happened to him in the war is just beautiful to watch unfold.

Their story of love, fear of what’s to come and fear of just letting go and taking what they want/need is one of vulnerability and real emotion that just pours off the pages. I absolutely loved the vulnerability and emotion in these two characters, it just made them and the story all the more real to me. There were a couple of times they had me choked up and teary eyed. Carrie Lynn and Levi are well written characters that balance each other out perfectly. Alone they are two separate entities, but together they make up a whole and complete each other the only way they are meant to be. There can never be another for either of them. Theirs is a love meant to be, and when both accept their individual fears, and finally take the leap, their lives fall into place and they’re finally complete.

Can’t Resist a Cowboy is a fast paced but enjoyable read. Even though events move at a good pace, Otto never rushes the love between Carrie Lynn and Levi. Even though they were childhood sweethearts they have been apart for a number of years and things have changed in both their lives. We get to see Carrie Lynn and Levi re-discover their love and realize they never stopped loving each other and that their love is even stronger now. Otto writes a beautiful story about love and love lost, but you always have a second chance at that love if you can face your fears and take that jump no matter how scary things seem. As I said, I’m going back to read the previous two books in this series and am looking forward to more in this series. For anyone who likes a good cowboy story then this one’s for you.

Until next time, Happy Reading!

In doing so, he finds an unexpected ally in his neighbor’s daughter, a striking Draconian Duchess.

Review:

Vampire Legacy is book #4 in Ella J. Phoenix‘s Dragon Heat series. In the last book Wolf Hunger, I was left wondering if she was going to continue this fun, sexy and adventurous series and now my wondering is answered. I’ve come to be quite the fan of Ella’s stories and couldn’t be happier to be able to read and review this new addition to the series. I loved every minute of this story. It was fun, fast paced, had burn up the pages steamy chemistry between our hero and heroine, while chalked full of danger, intrigue, deceit and action. Everything I love in a paranormal romance.

In Vampire Legacy, Ms. Phoenix takes us back in time by introducing us to, and allowing us to meet Tarhdieh’s father Petran, mother Hillia and his mistress Natalia a dragon shifter. As well, we are also introduced to many key players that began the war between the Vampires and Dragons in the world that Ella has so masterfully created with her brilliant imagination and creativity. Some of those characters we’ve seen throughout the series, well others have bit the dust, but their brethren continue on with the war. In going back and telling Petran and Natalia’s story we get to see the rich history between the Vampires and Dragons, and how they once co-existed even though there were those always out to overthrow the current Kings of both races; Petran(Vampire King) and Somenski(Natalia’s father and Dragon King). Those forces are the ones who jumpstarted the war between the two races that is still going on today, and have witnessed in the previous books. Ella also allows us to see the love Petran truly had for his son and what he was willing to do to allow his son to become the King of Vampires he knew he could become one day. We also get to see just what a bitch Tarhdeih’s mother was and let me tell you I was quite happy with what happened to her, she had it coming big time. One thing I did not see coming and just like in her previous books, Ella throws a giant curve ball our way and pretty much floors us with what is revealed. Of course she waits to pretty much the end of the book to do so, which leaves us hanging off the cliff by our fingernails waiting in anticipation for the next installment. Let me tell you, the curveball she throws at us, on top of another twist of events is setting off another chain reaction that will create more problems for not only Tarhdieh and Zoriciah, but also their friend Dayam. I’m so happy to see it looks like Dayam will get his story told.

On top of all the poltics, dastardly plost to try and overthrow both Petran, and Somenski, we get to see a beautiful love story unfold between Petran and Natalia. Of course, a union between Vampire and Draco are frown upon in society, Petran and Natalia can’t help the chemistry and pull that is between them. From their first meeting the chemistry is there and just continues to build until it’s at a boiling point neither can deny. When they finally come together it’s like fireworks going off, and should’ve come with a warning….*glass of ice water required before reading next portion of book*, 😉 Ms. Phoenix definitely knows how to write a proper and steamy sex scene IMO. Petran and Natalia’s love is genuine and heartfelt and watching them deal with all that is happening around them, you are left wondering many times if a HEA is in the cards for these two lovers.

Vampire Legacy is a brilliant addition to this story. I loved how Ms. Phoenix goes back in time to tell this story, but at the same time advancing the series and setting into motion events that are coming that will cause problems for Tardhieh and company. The brilliant mind for story telling and world building that Ella J. Phoenix possesses leaves me thinking that we are in for a fun-filled wild ride with the continuation of her Dragon Heat series. I for one am excited and can’t wait for the next book, fingers crossed it’s Dayam’s. I only hope that with what happens at the end of Vampire Legacy doesn’t mean there will be heartache and trouble coming Dayam’s way. If you are a fan of Ella’s like I am, then you won’t be disappointed with this latest installment.

Until next time, Happy Reading!

Bleddyn Hall by Amanda L.V. Shalaby – a Review

Bleddyn Hall by Amanda L.V. Shalaby – a Review

bleddyn hallAmazon

Description:
After a whirlwind romance during the London Season, Lady Isabel Sutton finds herself quickly engaged to the handsome Lord Tresham Bleddyn, Earl of Dancy. But when his father passes away suddenly, Lord Tresham’s period of mourning delays their marriage and ruins the season for Tresham’s younger twin sisters, Annalise and Rosamund.

After the girls invite Isabel to their Yorkshire home, Bleddyn Hall, Tresham seems an entirely different man than the one she fell in love with in London. Not only that, but all is not well within the walls of Bleddyn Hall. The house’s dark secrets lead to murder, mystery and a gruesome discovery.

Was Isabel’s happy future with Tresham nothing more than an illusion? Will she survive her stay at Bleddyn Hall?

Review:

Bleddyn Hall is the third book for Amanda Shallaby, and I have been lucky enough to read her previous two historical romances. Having read two books by Ms. Shallaby I was eager to get started on Bleddyn Hall and in my opinion I’d say she has another hit on her hands. Bleddyn Hall is filled with everything I’ve come to enjoy in an historical romance. Blossoming love, courting, fancy balls and gowns, a dashing hero and feisty heroine, all with a perfectly good mystery thrown in that kept me on the edge of my seat to the very end.

In Bleddyn Hall we are introduced to Lady Isabel Sutton and the ever dashing Lord Tresham Bleddyn. From the start it’s obvious these two are destined to be together. Lord Thresham and Lady Isabel are wonderfully written characters that draw you into their story and lives and lead you on a journey filled with emotion, mystery, suspense, love and angst. Both characters are well suited to one another and their love for one another is believable and real. It’s pretty much love at first site and I absolutely love these kinds of stories. Yes I’m a true romantic at heart and fall for these types of stories every time.

However, even though Lady Isabel and Lord Tresham are well suited and it seems it’s smooth sailing for their courtship, sudden disaster strikes. We learn of Lord Tresham’s father passing away, but soon learn it wasn’t an accident, but murder, and that there could be a murderer on the loose at Bleddyn Hall. This is where the story really picks up the pace and everything from here on in unfolds fast and furious. The suspense and mystery surrounding the death of two characters at Bleddyn Hall, and the suddenly strange behaviour on Lord Tresham’s part keeps the reader turning the pages wanting to find out what’s going on. There’s even one point where I myself was beginning to wonder if we knew all there is to know about Lord Tresham and was he harbouring some deadly secret. Heck at one point I was so furious over Lord Tresham’s sudden change in behaviour and character that I wanted to reach into the book and slap him silly. It isn’t until the last few chapters that Ms. Shallably springs a twist on us you never saw coming. I never once even thought of this plot twist and found it to be a brilliant move on her part. When this twist is revealed it answers all the questions that were bouncing around in my head as I read this story and no I’m not spilling the beans on this one because it would ruin the whole book for you. If you want to know what happens then you have to read it for yourself.

Bleddyn Hall was an exciting read that will keep you on the edge of your seat the whole way though. The characters are well written and bring their story to life. The secondary characters play their role of supporting cast well, and add an extra layer of life and adventure to the story. Ms. Shallaby’s writing style is such that it allows the reader to become a part of the story as she literally paints a picture with words and makes you feel like you are there in the time period. There were times I looked down at my clothes expecting to find some elegant gown adorning me and looking like the Belle of the Ball. 😉 If you are one for a good mystery, filled with suspense, murder and mayhem all surrounding a budding romance then Bleddyn Hall is your type of read. Ms. Shallaby really has a knack for writing historical romances and has made me more of a fan of this genre. Looking forward to more from this author.

Until next time, happy reading.

Instinct
Chronicles of Nick – Book # 6
by Sherrilyn Kenyon
Release Date: March 31, 2015InstinctAmazon / Barnes & Noble / Kobo / The Book Depository / BAM

Description:
Dark-Hunters, Daimons, zombies, demons, shapeshifters— another day in the life of Nick Gautier– and those are just his friends. But now that he’s accepted the demon that lives inside him, he must learn to control it and temper the very emotions that threaten the lives of everyone he cares for. Something that’s hard to do while trying to stay off the menus of those who want his head on a platter. And no one wants him more than the dark gods who created his race. Now that they know where he is, they will stop at nothing to reclaim him. And without knowing it, Nick has just embraced the one person he should never have trusted. The one person who will hand him over to his enemies to get back the life they lost.

Nick has finally accepted his fate, now he must learn to defy his destiny, and the dark, deadly forces that will stop at nothing to destroy everyone he loves so that they can again return to the world of man and own it.

Review:

Lions, tigers and bears oh my….oops, wrong story, for Nick Gautier it’s more like demons, zombies and hell-monkeys oh my, I don’t think we’re in New Orleans anymore Mr. Fuzzy Boots! For those of you who haven’t read Instinct yet, Mr. Fuzzy Boots is the nickname Nick gives to a fellow demon friend Xev, because his shape-shifting form is that of a cat. As for spoilers, that is the only one I’m giving in this review, so if you want to know about the twists, turns and surprises Kenyon gives us in this installment, of the Chronicles of Nick, you will just have to read the book.

Instinct is book 6 of the CON series and picks up right where the last one left off. For poor Nick, nothing is ‘normal’ anymore. Anywhere he goes or looks there’s trouble lurking in the shadows just waiting to claim him and use his dark powers to destroy mankind and rule the world. Now that Nick has finally accepted the truth of his birth and legacy, he now needs to learn to control the demon inside him, and make his own path in the world, all without loosing his soul and destroying everything in his path. Easy peasy for a teenage boy right?   Wrong, if there was ever a character written with worse luck then Nick Gautier, then I’ve yet to meet them. Just when Nick think’s things may be settling down, all hell literally breaks loose around him and when it seems the end is near, somehow he manages to pull off a hail mary move while keeping his soul and self in tact, all while saving those around him that he loves and holds dear.

As I stated earlier, Kenyon once again throws some curveballs our way, along with creating more questions then she answers for us readers. It’s one of the reasons I love her books so much, it just keeps me coming back for more. Now having said that, we do learn something very interesting about Nick’s mom that I never saw coming. It makes me wonder just how it will play out in the remainder of the CON series, then into his adult book and story line there. Along with the Cherise reveal we also learn more about Xev whom we met in Illusion, and why Caleb was so against Nick releasing him from the hell realm he was in. Xev’s character really tugged at my heartstrings and I am glad he turned out to be a friend to Nick instead of foe. This is another aspect of Kenynon’s writing and story telling ability that I like. Even though the series is about Nick, she also creates subplots for her secondary characters. I love learning the stories that go along with each new character we meet along the way. With Kenyon, no new character is introduced without having a backstory and connection to current characters. Such is the case of Aeron, whom we meet in a hell realm that Nick must visit as part of his ‘test’ to become the rightful Malachai, in order to save those he loves back in New Orleans. (Say what??? Why is Nick having to go through a test to become the rightful Malachai you say??? Hmmm, I don’t know, you’ll just have to keep reading…evil laughter ensues)! Aeron helps Nick along the way in not only retrieving the prize he needs, but also how to manage the Malachai beast part of his character. I liked Aeron’s character and hope we learn more about him in upcoming books. Nick’s growing Malachai powers are pretty cra cra, but it looks as though there is hope for Nick and the world after watching what happens with Nick in that hell realm and having to deal with the Malachai side of himself. Even though the Malachai is a pretty scary demon, he’s fast becoming a favourite of mine and I only hope there will be a happy ending for this Malachai when his time comes.

What more can I say other then, there isn’t a dull spot in Instinct. It’s chalked full of action, suspense, emotion, Nick’s perfectly timed humour and sarcasm, friends coming together to help one another, danger and peril at every turn, and of course Kenyon’s brilliant world building, character creations, and imagination that make you forget you are reading a work of fiction, because you suddenly feel like you are a part of the story and at any moment some demon is going to jump out and drag you into some creepy hell realm. With my luck, it would be the worst possible hell realm with no way back. LOL!! Instinct is another wonderful installment to the CON series. I just wish Kenyon didn’t leave the epilogue the way she did, it just makes me want to keep reading. Pretty sure I gave a really good ‘Noooooo’ when I read the last line. LOL!! If you haven’t read this one yet, what are you waiting for, get to reading!!!

Until next time, Happy Reading my fellow Menyons!

Sins of a Duke by Stacy Reid – a Review

Sins of a Duke by Stacy Reid – a Review

Sins of a Duke

 Amazon / Barnes & Noble / Kobo

Description:
She would be his perfect revenge…

All of the young ladies whispered about the Duke of Mondvale in hushed tones, their eyes following his tall, dark figure with barely disguised lust. For the newly-ostracized Lady Constance Thornton, he is magnetic and altogether desirable. Irresistibly so. Since her reputation is already ruined in London society, why shouldn’t she be impudent and dance with the scandalous “Lord of Sin”?

Little does she know of his plans. The beautiful and innocent Lady Constance is no mere plaything for Lucan Wynwood. She will be his revenge. By ruining her, he will have his vengeance against herbrother. Except that the Lady Constance is full of surprises… and now she could well be the ruin of him.

Review:

Sins of a Duke is the 3rd novel for Stacey Reid in her Scandalous House of Calydon series. Having not read the previous two stories in this series I didn’t find it hard to follow along or get involved in the story or characters. The setup and general plot of the story is well orchestrated and laid out for the reader, allowing one to quickly become immersed in the world that Ms. Reid creates in Sins of a Duke.

I very much enjoyed this book. It begins with a mission of revenge but soon turns into one of romance and love. Our hero the Duke of Mondvale is set upon a quest for revenge against Constance’s brother the Duke of Calydon over what happened to his dear sister. Only one small problem, his target, Lady Constance becomes more then just an act of revenge for our Duke Lucan Wynwood. She becomes the object of affection and love he never thought possible for a man like him. Ever since that fateful night and their chance meeting and dance under the stars Lucan is taken by Constance and can’t seem to keep his mind on matters of revenge. Instead of staying to his plan, every time he and Constance are together his mind goes off in a totally different direction.

For Lady Constance, being seen with the Lord of Sin doesn’t seem to be a problem for her since she is already ruined in the eyes of the Haute Monde for being a bastard. The Beautiful Bastard has since become what she is referred to by the Haute Monde since it was discovered that her mother had an affair and she was the product. Since she feels she will never be called upon by someone in the higher circles why not go after something that is forbidden and strictly for herself. I loved Constance’s character. She’s a breath of fresh air among the stuffiness of the women of the Haute Monde. How they looked down upon everything and everyone who they didn’t deem worthy drives me batty. I love it when someone stands up to them and decides to stick it to them. Enter Constance who goes by the beat of her own drum. This is one of the reasons Lucan is so taken by her. Even though it’s his fault society found out about her birth situation she goes about her day and doesn’t let society see that their dismissal of her bothers her. Constance is a very strong, intelligent and strong minded women. She knows what she wants and isn’t afraid to go get it, even if it means going in disguise to a well known gentlemen’s club run by none other then our dashing Duke Lucan Wynwood.

Constance and Lucan are perfect for each other. Both are very strong characters, know what they want and will go after it with everything they have. Their scenes together are sweet and funny at times, while others are passionate and sexually charged. We get to see what it is that motivates both of them and how they’ve both come to this particular point in their lives. The romance between them isn’t rushed and gives the reader the chance to learn about each as individuals and as a couple. Keeping the romance moving along at a steady pace while keeping Lucan’s plans of revenge simmering on the outer edges of that romance adds a spark and kick to the story and keeps the reader on the edge of their seat waiting to see if Constance will ever find out the truth of Lucan’s sudden appearance in her life, and if she does what will it mean for Lucan’s growing feelings of love for Constance. Does this romance stand a chance with a quest for revenge as the motivation for their courtship?

Sins of a Duke is a fast paced quick read, that’s filled with revenge, redemption, passion and romance. The story is well played and keeps the reader on the edge of their seat waiting to see what will happen next for Lucan’s plan of revenge and his growing feelings of love towards his unsuspecting target Lady Constance. This was a fun read, that kept me entertained from beginning to end. If you are a fan of historical romance that’s filled will all of the above, then I highly recommend this one to you.

For now, happy reading.

Description:
Playing For Keeps

Grant Cassidy knows how to be a football star—flash that dazzling smile, throw the winning pass, get the girl. But while the hot quarterback loves the game and the lifestyle, no woman has come close to catching his heart.  Then he matches wits with a smart, gorgeous model, and Grant finds himself wanting more than a fling.

Supermodel Katrina Koslova might live in a world of glitz and camera flashes, but she works hard to provide for the family that relies on her. She doesn’t have time for fun—much less a boyfriend—but Grant seems determined to be the exception to Katrina’s rule. Their explosive chemistry is undeniable, but Katrina’s afraid to let go and rely on anyone but herself. Grant intends to ease her fears and prove he’s a man of style and substance.

Review:

Quarterback Draw is book 9 in Jaci Burton’s Play by Play series and I can only say this series just keeps getting better and better. Jaci never ceases to amaze me with her ability to write a sports themed story complete with a hot romance between her main couple. This time up its pro football player Grant Cassidy and supermodel Katrina Koslova. All I can say is these two steamed up the pages from their first meeting. The chemistry between Grant and Katrina is off the charts and gets hotter and hotter as their relationship progresses. I absolutely loved the relationship between Grant and Katrina, they are two well balanced characters who couldn’t be more perfect for one another. Another plus in Jaci’s column is her ability to write the perfect match in her hero and heroine. Somehow they always seem to balance each other out and make each other’s lives better for it. Even though their chemistry is combustible and off the charts, Jaci doesn’t rush a thing between them. Another thing I enjoy about Jaci’s stories, she never rushes the romance, she lets it build and simmer until the perfect moment in the story and then it’s no holds bared between our couple. The romance takes off and there’s no turning back, which is how it plays out between Grant and Katrina.

One of the things I liked most about this relationship is Grant’s patience, tenderness and romancing of Katrina. Even though she’s a world class supermodel, she’s had a tough go of life, having to raise her brother and sister from when she was 18. Which meant she pretty much put her social life on hold to make sure her siblings had a good chance at life. When Grant learns she’s a virgin, he doesn’t question her reasons, instead he listens to all she has to say, understands her and decides to be the best damn teacher when it comes to sex. Let me just say, I’d let him be my teacher any day 😉 Grant definitely knows what he’s doing in the bedroom, along with being a kickass quarterback for his pro football team. Watching Grant and Katrina’s relationship develop slowly and passionately was a lovely treat to read. Jaci does a fantastic job of allowing Katrina to spread her wings in the romance department, while at the same time being a little apprehensive because she’s always got her siblings best interest at heart. She feels that whatever she does in her life will affect her siblings, so she’s always mindful of that. Katrina is a very endearing character that has the reader falling in lover with her from the start. She’s a female lead that any woman reading this story can relate to and respect. As for Grant, his character gives me hope for the male species. He’s just a wonderful human being, who’s chivalrous, kind hearted, knows how to treat a woman, is sexy as hell and a stellar athlete. I absolutely loved him and he had my toes curling on more then one occasion, he’s definitely swoon worthy material in my book.

Quarterback Draw is a well balanced and written story. The romance between Grant and Katrina is endearing and lovely to read. They really are the perfect couple. Like I said earlier their chemistry is off the charts and ensnares the reader from their first meeting. The secondary characters, Anya and Leo(Katrina’s siblings) and Grant’s family(parents and siblings) are loveable, give us more insight into our couple both as individuals and as a couple, while adding another dimension to the story. On top of a well written and passionate romance between Grant and Katrina Jaci also keeps us riveted with the sport side of things with every football game scene. She does a fabulous job of writing these scenes and making the reader feel like they are actually sitting in a football stadium cheering Grant on. How she manages to do that baffles me every time, but I couldn’t be happier with these scenes as I love my sports. All in all this is another successful addition to her Play by Play series and I for one can’t wait for the next installment. Next up is Grant’s brother Tucker and he’s a pro baseball player. One of my fave sports, and I’ll be sure to bring you all the play by play details about that one.

Until next time, happy reading.
