Magick & Moonlight
Magick series – Book 1
Release Date: April 1, 2020

Amazon / B&N / Kobo

Description:
Love spells are dangerous, even more so for those who cast them…

Ethan Hamilton moves to a lazy little town in Oregon, hoping to escape his demons. Instead, he discovers a woman dancing nude in the moonlight. This woman who claims she is a witch dazzles him with her sensual presence. He thinks she’s crazy, but what if she’s not?

Jessie Anderson has been taught that her kind hides who they really are. And she has a problem on her hands. Someone knows her secret and she must do all she can to protect herself. What other choice does she have? Jessie casts a spell on a good man, a man with whom she can’t fight her attraction. The spell doesn’t work quite as planned.

Messing with free will is always a bad idea.

To top it off, Ethan’s treatment of her is so addictive. Deep down, she knows the effects will wear off, and yet his feelings seem genuine. It’s just a spell…right?

Review:

Magick & Moonlight by Marie Lavender is a short story that will lead to a new series (Magick).

I had fun reading it, it’s hard to pack enough information into a short read, too much and your ending the story too abruptly. Not enough, and you have to fill the empty pages (usually with sex!)

Ethan comes across a young naked woman dancing in the woods “cue smut”, but what we got was not what I expected…..

Jessie is a witch, she is out in the woods doing what she loves, hearing a noise she confronts her watcher. They share a kiss, (short story remember) and both are attracted to one another, it’s not until she gets home that reality hits!!! What’s a witch to do? Cast a spell of course…. She can’t have Ethan telling the town she’s a witch, that could lead to all sorts of things. But spells being spells ……

It’s a fun read. I liked where this was going. Think it could have made a decent full length story. Wanted a little more. Loved the characters, but couldn’t get too involved, before you know it, the story is done!!

Upon tracking the author down, I confirmed that this is indeed a new series. It tells us of Ethan and Jessie in the future.

The Missing Piece
Release Date – February 28, 2020

Amazon / B&N / Kobo

Description:

When Alyssa wakes up in a strange place at school, she can’t remember what happened the previous night. A new friend, Justin, offers to help her out. As she makes discoveries that force her to accept a different reality, she finds herself drawn to Justin for a number of reasons.

Can the biggest mistake of Aly’s life turn into the promise of new love?

Review:

The Missing Piece by Marie Lavender is a New Adult Romance.

Alyssa wakes with no memory of the previous night. It’s a scary situation, what the hell happened to her?

She’s told by a young man that she was drinking plenty and went upstairs with a man! Fear races through Alyssa (was she attacked?) but Justin assures her that wouldn’t have happened, and walks her back to her dorm. She’s not the type of girl to do shots, and certainly not the type to go upstairs with a man. And why can’t she remember?

Alyssa and Justin start on a journey to find out what happened to her. But what I find difficult to understand is why….. Why would someone who usually does drink, who doesn’t party, who usually stays in her room and study, go out?

It’s a short read, and one I didn’t want to end, I think it could have been made into a full story. I thought it was going to be more of a mystery (well that’s what the background led me to think) what we got was a romance!

It’s a fast paced read, but with lots missing I felt a little lost! Will it lead to a fuller story at some point? I do hope so.

So do you find out why? I guess your going to have to read it to find out. ?

Chasing Ginger by Marie Lavender – a Review

Chasing Ginger by Marie Lavender – a Review

Amazon / B&N / Kobo / BAM / Book Depository / Apple

Description:
Chased by a group of angry men. Saved by quite a hunk.

This is not the résumé Ginger Halloway ever imagined having. But thanks to a miracle pill, which makes her size 22 body instantly sexy, that’s what happened.

Yet, now Lance Franklin is showing interest in her, and she can’t figure out if he really likes her for her, or if it’s just because of a bizarre drug.

And her wild bunch of friends, The Misfits…well, they’re always getting her into some interesting situations.

So, yep, business as usual. Except for the guy. What the hell should she do about him?

As for Lance, he believes he’s lucky to have found Ginger. But can he convince her they should go for it?

With some new attention from the hottest guy she’s ever met, Ginger can’t help but wonder…is this all too good to be true?

Review:

Reading the back cover of Chasing Ginger by Marie Lavender, I thought of Eddie Murphy in “The nutty Professor”

Ginger is a “full figured” feisty female. Her outlook on life ? She’s come to finally accept she won’t ever be a “conventional” size, that doesn’t mean she’s happy, but happy enough. So when she gets the chance at a “miracle” pill to help with her weight, Ginger signs up…..   But what she gets isn’t a slimming pill, it’s a pill that makes her a magnet for men!!

I laughed through most of the book. It’s hilarious, the dance competition was great, but the downside of this book was the fear she had when men wouldn’t take the hint and leave her alone!! But her guardian angel keeps stepping in to save her…..

I liked this story, very descriptive, really well written, it’s a struggle most women have at least once in their life, the struggle to keep the weight off, will they be attractive? Will anyone ever see past the “fat suit”?

Loved her college friends, they’d clubbed together and called themselves “The Misfits”, they were a great bunch of friends, always had Ginger’s back. She knew she could rely on them, and friends like that are hard to find.

So what happens with Lance and Ginger? Will she be able to tell him the pills are making him want her? Because he couldn’t want her, could he? And if Lance ever finds out that she’s taking pills, would he ever forgive her?

I’m hoping the misfits find their stories too.

Blood Instincts
Blood at First Sight series – Book #2
by Marie Lavender

Amazon

Description:
Enter the Other World at your own risk…
What if you found out that you weren’t exactly…human?
Myah Sullivan is suddenly living that nightmare. There are Others in the world, dangerous, supernatural creatures that make her mind spin and cause her to question the reality she’s always known.
Oliver King is her savior, a vampire who tries to show her the way. Through her journey she learns far more than she ever thought she would about herself, and about the past. Soon, she discovers that there is so much more to meeting Oliver than mere happenstance.
Can Myah accept her new reality, or will she retreat into that normal, safe world she once thought was her own.

Review:

Blood Instincts by Marie Lavender is the 2nd book in her Blood at First Sight series.  Oliver is a vampire, he was a turned vampire, and he’s lived his life to the best he can. He hunts other vampires that don’t wipe their “donors” minds or kill the “donor” (bloodlust can be a problem if not watched). But he misses his old family, and watched them from afar (until the line died out).

He’s having dreams (and Oliver never dreams) and feels he needs to be somewhere !!!

Myah is a normal human, she lives a normal life, she works and loves like a human.  But when she meets Oliver, he wakens something up in her, he asks “what” she is, and tries to convince her that what she is, isn’t fully human !!!

The attraction for Oliver is instant, but for Myah, it’s a little slower, she’s wary of the stranger, but she wants to know more about herself and him.

We meet characters from the first book (don’t want to give too much away) and I get a few answers from questions I had in the first book. It’s a little different from the usual vampire books, and that’s a good thing.

Another well written book to this series, and I’m hoping to have another soon.

Second Nature
Blood at First Sight series – Book #1
by Marie Lavender

Amazon

Description:
Desiree Edwards has a problem. She’s been attacked, kidnapped and forced to get along with a vampire of all things. It’s something right out of the story books she reads, or her worst nightmare. But, sometimes he’s not the monster he appears to be. He seems so humanlike that she can’t help it when her emotions betray her, when her body betrays her. To make matters worse, she finds out more about herself than she ever wanted to know.

She was unlike any other…

Alec has a problem. The animal in him wants Desiree. But, so does the man. The more he learns about her, the harder it is to deny what he wants. But, he’s a freak, and she’s just a human. The two species don’t mix that way. Then an old enemy surfaces and Alec is forced to make a choice. His life or hers.

Can Alec’s soul be saved by this unique human? Or will it be far too late?

Review:

Second Nature by Marie Lavender is the first book in her Blood at First Sight series.  It is set in a world much like our own, (with the exception of vampires, werewolves) ?

Desiree is a recently divorced young woman, who has decided to immerse herself in her work. She has friends and family but is starting to feel like she needs a different path to follow, work or personal, she just hasn’t decided which one yet to choose.

Alec is a vampire, he was “made” when another vampire changed him by accident during the civil war !! Having no “sire” to show him how to be a vampire, Alec has made his own way in the works, he has a few rules he tries to live by, one being never drain a “human” and never leave a memory behind (so he erases their memory after feeding)

When Alec spots Desiree at a Jazz and Blues Festival he is captured by her. There is an attraction between Desiree and Alec that neither one of them can deny, no matter how hard Desiree tries to deny it. There is also a bond that neither one of them can explain. Desiree has some kind of connection that Alec has never experienced before with anyone else, and he wants to explore this and his feelings for Desiree further.

There are a couple of plot twists that kept the story interesting. Even though this is book one of a series, there is no cliffhanger.

The story is written well, and although both have their say, I never got confused with who was thinking what.
