REVIEW: RUTHLESS LORD is the third instalment in BB Hamel’s contemporary, adult MARINO CRIME FAMILY dark, erotic, Mafia romance series. This is forty something, MMA fighter and Mafia hitman Stefano Bianchi, and heiress Charlotte ‘Charlie’ Westbrook’s story line.RUTHLESS LORD can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty but I recommend reading the series in order for back story and cohesion.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Stefano and Charlie) RUTHLESS LORD follows in the wake of the rescue of our story line heroine. Working as a server at the local fight club Charlie becomes a target, only to be rescued by our story line hero. A one-night stand, followed by the proverbial walk of shame, and our heroine is forced into a marriage with our story line hero, in an effort to shore up the family business but all is not as it appears to be, and Charlie finds herself a pawn to her family’s demand, a pawn that when caught must prove she is worthy of a second chance.

The world building focuses on the fight for power and control as Charlie’s family is willing to sacrifice our heroine for the sake of profit. Charlie struggles with the possibility of heart break and exploitation but never expected to fall in love with a man who could destroy her life. Stefano is determined to keep his distance but the lure of his wife means something more in the wake of possible betrayal from outside and within.

The relationship between Charlie and Stefano begins as a rescue that will ultimately be the starting point for a forced marriage of convenience but Charlie’s secrets are about to destroy any hopes of a future when a perceived betrayal threatens the growing relationship between our story line couple. The $ex scenes are erotic and provocative.

There is a large ensemble cast of colorful and powerful secondary and supporting characters including the return of Don Adriano Marino, head of the Marino Crime Family (Vicious Heir) Luca Marino (Shattered King) ; and Luca’s man Enzo. We are introduced to Charlie’s grandfather Harrison Westbrook, and her father; fight manager Albert Morton, tech specialist Davide, and Charlie’s assistant Emily. The requisite evil has many faces.

RUTHLESS LORD is a story of secrets and lies, betrayal and vengeance, power and control, dysfunctional family values, acceptance and love. The character driven premise is dramatic, dark and edgy; the romance is tense and fated; the characters are desperate, determined and compelling.
