REVIEW: BRING ON THE DUSK is the sixth full-length installment in ML Buchman’s The Night Stalkers military romance series focusing on an elite group of military personnel from the US army secret military operations known as 160th SOAR (Special Operations Aviation Regiment) aka The Night Stalkers. This is helicopter pilot Captain Claudia Casperson and Delta Force Colonel Michael Gibson’s storyline. BRING ON THE DUSK can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty.

Told from alternating third person point of view, the focus of the storyline is two fold; a mission to the Persian Gulf to retrieve several hostages kidnapped by Somali pirates ; and a black on black secret ops assignment that finds our heroes trying to stop the Russians from gaining a foothold in the Iranian oil cartel. One of Claudia’s first assignments finds herself in the Yemeni desert rescuing Colonel Michael Gibson- a rather stoic and quiet man who has earned the respect of his men and his superiors.

Colonel Michael Gibson hides in plain sight. He listens and learns, commands and oversees the missions that demand sacrifice and perfection. Meeting Claudia Casperson tilts the Colonel’s world so that the axis begins to waver. His attraction to Claudia is immediate but he is a man whose heart belongs to The Night Stalkers and falling in love has never been on his mind.

The relationship between Michael and Claudia is professional, courteous and at times, painfully uncomfortable to watch unfold. Claudia is the one to make the first move and Michael finds himself at a loss as to how to react and what to do. It is not until our couple is granted leave that Michael’s love for his beloved Redwood trees and the star-filled skies overhead reveal to Claudia the true extent of Michael’s wants and need. But an unexpected attack during their latest mission finds Michael walking away to protect the woman with whom he has fallen in love. The $ex scenes are intimate without graphic erotic depictions.

The secondary and supporting characters consist of many, if not all, of the previous storyline couples who play an active role throughout the story. ML Buchman’s novels gather an ensemble cast of characters whose camaraderie and friendship reveal a deeper love and support than most people will find in their lifetime.

The world building is very detailed with technical terminology, jargon and theories, and continues to focus on the 160th SOAR Night Stalkers-their missions, their rescues, their losses, and their loves. The storylines are fast paced, packed with suspense, tension, likeable characters, and little bit of romance and love. There is plenty of ‘stream of consciousness’ or thought flow for both main characters as they reflect on their careers, their families, and their possible futures. Their one on one conversations are quiet and mostly implied.

ML Buchman pulls the reader onto the high seas, into the air, and behind the scenes of an elite group of military personnel who risk their lives to protect the freedom of others. There is a balance of action and suspense combined with friendships and building love. BRING ON THE DUSK is another fascinating, informative, and well written storyline from the pen of ML Buchman.

The Warrior Most Likely… by M.L. Buchman

This week I’m celebrating the release of the sixth book in my Night Stalkers military romantic suspense series Bring On The Dusk. In the story, long-time team member Colonel Michael Gibson of Delta Force finally finds true love with pilot Captain Claudia Casperson.

Each book in the series has followed the battles and loves of members of the real-world’s U.S. Army’s 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment. These are the best helicopter pilots and crew on the planet, far in advance of even our closest allies.

The fictitious 5th Battalion D Company was founded by Major Mark Henderson and it is he who has overseen the building of the unit. But in many ways it is the wife he met in Book #1 The Night is Mine who has overseen the lives and loves of those who fly for the 5D. In six books, there has been a wide variety of personalities and skills.

One of the unexpected joys of having the opportunity to build a cast over the course of six books (and yes, there is already a 7th in planning) is learning more about them as each book progresses. Even though Emily and Mark were book #1, Kee and Archie book #2 I Own the Dawn, or Trisha and Bill book #5 Light Up the Night, both the writer and the reader learn more about them as we go. It’s part of the joy of the journey.

So fans look back and ask: Who Is The Warrior Most Likely To …

* …volunteer for a dangerous mission that will take place in the middle of the tundra? Curiously it is Mark Henderson the founder of the 5D who would take on this mission. He grew up with a former-SEAL dad working on a Montana ranch. He is as comfortable with outdoors as any man in the outfit…as long as there’s a fishing stream. Fishing right beside him would be his good friend Michael Gibson of book #6 (the newest release) Bring On The Dusk.

* …be called into a ‘Hot Zone’ first? Colonel Michael Gibson is always the first in and the last out. As a Delta Force operator embedded with the 5D, he is the most experienced soldier in any battlefield. And Michael only leads from one place, the very tip of the spear.

* …win an arm wrestling match? Big John Wallace didn’t earn his nickname by being a shrimp like his best friend, Crazy Tim O’Malley. His power is as huge as his frame and it is one of the wonders of book #3 Wait Until Dark that he can fit into a gunner’s seat aboard a Black Hawk helicopter. Of course the one who can come closest to beating him is his buddy, book #4 Take Over at Midnight Tim.

* …Run 5 miles in full gear without becoming tired? Tim O’Malley may be compact, but he is immensely strong from constant workouts. There is only one Night Stalker who can outrun him, Kee Smith of Book #2 I Own the Dawn. What Kee lacks in strength she more than compensates for in raw tenacity. Kee is the only Night Stalker to consistently cross over the line and train with the Delta Force operators. Not even Trisha, who marries a D-body, can boast that one.

And now for a fun one!

* Who is the warrior most likely to look the best in their uniform? Pick one, I dare you. As a male writer, my bias is for the women:

o Emily – tall, sleek, commanding blond

o Kee – short, seriously curved, and strong, half-Viet and have something else

o Connie – the brilliant but shy brunette from next door

o Lola – the wild Naw’lins Creole, long, lean, and a mane of mahogany hair

o Trisha – petite, redhead, vibrant with energy and sass

o Claudia – tall, shapely, blond, with a peace that radiates from deep inside

Or the men (also in order by book):

o Mark – the hero-model commander with his ever-present mirrored Ray Ban sunglasses

o Archie – the tall, quiet brains of the operation

o John – the big, powerful mechanic from the American heartland

o Tim – the broad-shouldered, Latino practical joker

o Bill – tall, silent, lethal Scotsman

o Michael – the ultimate warrior. He stands out in no way at all…until you meet him. Then you can’t look away.

•••••••••••••••

REVIEW: LIGHT UP THE NIGHT is the fifth instalment in M.L. Buchman’s adult, contemporary The Night Stalkers military romance series focusing on a group of specially trained military personnel from the U.S. Army secret helicopter regiment the 160th SOAR (Special Operations Aviation Regiment). This is helicopter pilot Trisha O’Malley and CIA SEAL operative William (Bill) Bruce’s storyline. Although it is the fifth book in the series, it can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty.

The storyline finds Bill and Trisha at odds with one another. Bill doesn’t trust the military and prefers to work by himself. But finding himself with a group of pilots and a paramilitary unit, who rescued Bill from a Somali attack, he is about to undertake one of the most dangerous missions of his life-the SOAR unit has asked him to assist on their next mission to take down a group of Somali pirates who have captured several boats, including an American yacht, near the Horn of Africa. Bill’s reluctance stems from his need to work alone and his attraction to one helicopter pilot-Trisha O’Malley.

The relationship between Bill and Trisha is one of immediate attraction but on the surface they rub each other the wrong way. From their turbulent first meeting the couple is in a continuous battle with their emotions and feelings for one another. But an urgent call back home will find Bill heading State side leaving a confused Trisha behind-only Trisha has her own demons to address before she is able to continue with the mission. The sex scenes are passionate and sensual.

The world building continues throughout the series with the familiar names and places, military jargon and speech. The secondary characters are colorful, engaging and include many of the previous storyline couples and characters. Their relationship to one another is of respect, friendship, comaraderie and love. They are all very protective of one another and will ensure that no one, even the new guys, will place anyone in danger.

With reference to the military jargon, there is a vast amount of technical information and detailed military language throughout the storyline but it does not deter from the overall premise. M. L. Buchman has executed his research very well.

M. L. Buchman weaves a story of romance into a military action series with passion, emotion and an intensity that is breathtaking and real. You will feel the incredible highs and lows, the thrill of the hunt, and the honor that each member of the unit instills within his or herself. LIGHT UP THE NIGHT is a realistic and intelligent look at a military rescue operation with a little bit of romance on the side.

TEMPTED BY THE SOLDIER (Falling for You #2) by Nicolette Day

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date Feb 24, 2014

When one touch isn’t enough, why resist?

Road trips are supposed to be fun. Or, at least, full of hot sex. For photographer Lilly Grayson, the fifteen-hour drive to her friend’s wedding with Nate Jennings will be neither. Not that Nate isn’t sexy—the man is six-foot-three-inches of mouth-watering Marine. But Lilly’s been there, done that…and he walked away. Now it’s time for a little payback. The kind that’ll make a man desperate for a taste of what he can’t have.

And Nate wants a taste—so badly that he can barely keep his hands on the wheel. But the scars and ghosts of his last tour still haunt him. He can’t give into temptation, not this time. Lilly deserves a whole man—one who can love her the way she deserves to be loved, even if she doesn’t believe it can happen. And that can’t be Nate. Not when he’s leaving again in two weeks, and this time, he’s not sure he’ll return…

REVIEW: TEMPTED BY THE SOLDIER is the second storyline in Nicolette Day’s contemporary, adult, Falling For You romance series. This is Lily and Nate’s storyline. Lily and Nate met one year earlier. Following a night of wild sex and passion, Nate walked away leaving Lily humiliated and not knowing what went wrong. With Nate’s brother’s wedding only a few days away, Lily finds herself partnered for a fifteen hour car ride with the man who broke her heart. Lily is the bride’s friend and official photographer and Nate is the groom’s best man.

The storyline follows Lily and Nate as they struggle with their mutual feelings for one another but feelings that are overridden by Lily’s anger and hurt. Nate is military helicopter pilot whose demons ride him hard. Suffering from PTSD and survivor’s guilt, Nate pushes Lily away at every opportunity until he finally pushes too far.

The relationship between Lily and Nate begins as barely tolerable. With their heartbreaking history with one another, Nate knows not to pursue a relationship with Lily-he is about to be deployed again and doesn’t know if he will return. But the heart only knows that it wants Lily but convincing Nate is another matter all together.

Nicolette Day pulls the reader into a story of heartbreak and mistrust; letting go and moving on; forgiveness and learning to love. We watch as a damaged hero believes he is not worthy of love or forgiveness because of something that was out of his control. Nate will find love when he least expects and his heart will have a place to come home. Day writes a story that will tug at everyone’s heart.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date February 9, 2014

SEAL Reed Tucker doesn’t believe in commitment, until he tangles the sheets with one hot pilot, Delaney O’Connell. His phobia against commitment is challenged when his best friend asks Delaney to marry him first. As a helicopter pilot for the 160th Night Stalkers, Delaney knows the risks of loving a SEAL. When her lover’s friend loses an arm in battle, she can’t refuse his marriage proposal when he’s already lost so much. In love with one man, pledged to marry another, she’s torn. Tuck and Delaney must come to grips with the happiness they owe themselves and the happiness of their friend who has lost so much.

REVIEW: SEAL’S HONOR is the first instalment in Elle James’s contemporary, adult, romance series focusing on an elite group of military men and women. This is Tucker and Delaney’s story-a story of forbidden love during an Afghanistan mission that ends in death and disaster.

Seal’s Honor is also about a friendship between two navy SEALs who have both fallen hard for the same woman but a woman who has fallen hard for only one man. Our trio -Tucker, Delaney and Reaper are friends who have shared long nights of pizza, beer and movies but it is Tucker and Delaney who have shared so much more. When Reaper surprises Delaney with a proposal of marriage, Tucker refuses to admit that his feelings for Delaney go much deeper than friendship but to that of love. Knowing that Delaney doesn’t feel the same way about Reaper, Tucker sets about trying to convince the would-be couple that neither is right for the other-but when a mission in the Middle East leaves Reaper and Delaney wounded, Tucker throws himself into a war that he knows he cannot win.

SEAL’S HONOR is a novella that introduces many of Tucker’s fellow SEALs and friends. The reader is pulled into an emotional storyline about two people who love one another but have issues with commitment and long term relationships. This is also a story where a lack of communication has affected a friendship between three people who love one another but a love that is different for each other. When friendship turns to love, there is always someone sitting on the outside looking in. Elle James has written a story of friendship and love against a backdrop of trauma and loss. To find one’s soul mate in a world at war with itself says something about the human spirit and the fight to go on.

Feel The Rush

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date August 20, 2013

Picking the wrong men is a talent Meagan Mitchell has perfected. She’s sweet, confident, beautiful—and single. With her thirtieth birthday sneaking up on her, she needs a new plan. No more Mr. Wrongs or Mr. Bads, it’s time to find Mr. Safe…

Army Captain, Reed Porter, lives for the thrill—he’s an Airborne Jumpmaster with a rush addiction. He’s sexy and playful, and he quickly tempts Meagan with his rich Southern drawl and sinful looks. But slowing down and settling down are not in his agenda, making him exactly the type of man Meagan wants to avoid…

As their undeniable attraction heats up, Meagan has to decide if she’s willing to risk everything on a chance at love with a reckless charmer. Is she brave enough to bet her future—and her heart—on Mr. Thrill? Or will Reed finally learn that the feeling of a safe landing is just as addicting as the rush of the fall?

••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••

REVIEW:  FEEL THE RUSH is the second storyline in Kelsie Leverich’s contemporary military HARD FEELINGS romance series. Although this is part of a series, it can be read as a stand alone. The series has introduced a number of fellow soldiers, friends and comrades, and each will have their story told. This is Meagan and Reed’s story. One thing I have noticed, there is a similar theme running throughout the first two novels-the heroine has been scorned; betrayed by a previous lover; cheated on by someone she trusted and loved, and in this, has shaped the character’s skewed outtake on life and love. I am not sure if this is where all of Kelsie’s storylines are heading, but it is a major premise running throughout both novels.

The story focuses on the almost thirty year old Meagan Mitchell- an army brat and nurse who measures her days by the lack of a permanent relationship, marriage and motherhood. Enter her new neighbor Captain Reed Porter, a man who does not remember their first encounter eight years earlier. Meagan fears she will lose her head and her heart to the resident bad boy who wants to live life to the fullest and looks for the next big ‘rush’. Meagan is looking for something more and Reed isn’t willing to be that more.

The relationship between Reed and Meagan is hot, sexy and romantic. Both realize that going into the relationship with boundaries is setting them up to fail and they will fail in a big way that will break your heart and flow your tears. Not only for our leading couple but for several of Reed’s fellow soldiers whose lives and loves are as screwed up as their commanding officer.

The storyline is well paced; most of the characters are likeable and relatable although Meagan’s character had the ability to set off warning bells with her behavior of pulling Reed in and pushing him away all the time. Her history with men has shaped her inability to trust and her growing fear that all men will break her heart and leave when someone new comes along. In this, she was a difficult character to like. And Reed, knowing full well that Meagan wanted more, kept pushing his limits in their relationship.

Once again, the storyline is filled with friends and fellow soldiers all with a story waiting to be told. The characters are real; suffer pain and loss; heartbreaking sorrow and misguided love.

FEEL THE RUSH is a story about two people trying to overcome pasts mired in betrayal, loss and pain. Kelsie Leverich puts her own spin on the military hero storyline and pulls the reader in with heartbreaking histories that left me looking for a tissue on several occasions.

Part of a secret government project, Elena Davidson’s life is in serious jeopardy when she is kidnapped by terrorists. Safeguarding ‘Blue Horizon’ isn’t just a mission to Elena. She knows that if its purpose is revealed and if it falls into the wrong hands, it could be dangerous for the entire world.

Beckham Connors has a simple mission: the retrieval of Elena Davidson, no matter what the cost. He has orders to rescue Elena from her captors and to send her home to America, or if necessary—kill her. Whatever happens, she cannot be left alive on Iranian soil.

Forced into a whirlwind adventure, she can depend on no one. Elena must decide if she can trust the ruggedly handsome Beckham—or if he poses a greater danger than the terrorists.

*************

REVIEW: WOW! I’m amazed at this fantastic story. It’s a smaller book than usual (less than 200 pages) but is absolutely packed from the beginning with intense action, emotion and great characters. Written by J.L. Hammer this is a powerhouse of unexpected delight.

Here’s a little background on the main characters: Elena Davidson is a 27 year old engineer on a government project and is kidnapped by Iranian terrorists and subjected to torture and brutalization. Cole Davidson is a captain in the AF and is Elena’s big brother…when she is kidnapped he is frantic to do anything to save his little sister. Beckham Connors is a mercenary working with covert ops to retrieve Elena and her boss from the Iranians. Charity Lane is secretary to pentagon official McAllister (a double dealing jerk and traitor – but she doesn’t know that).

Ok, that’s most of the character setup, there are more secondary ones but these guys are the storyline principals. I don’t want to spoil the book for anyone because it’s really a great read. It’s a twisting and interesting tale of terror, rescue, love (two love stories), recovery and much more!

This is a real page turner….very hard to put down. The story is well crafted, action packed, and I can’t wait for more from this talented writer. How the author puts so much great and flowing story into such a small space is one of many mysteries
