ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date January 5, 2016

Crazy how eight years can disappear in an instant. One look at Katie Watts, and I’m a fifteen-year-old again—the one who risked everything to save a terrified girl from her twisted kidnapper. She’s grown-up now—beautiful, quiet, composed—and telling her story to the world. A story that involves me in more ways than you can imagine. She used to call me her guardian angel. Sure, I risked my life, but she was worth dying for.

I need to make contact with her. Just to ensure that she’s safe.

Somehow we reconnect. We become friends . . . but I want more. I want to make her mine. And she wants me too. Does she know who I am? Has she figured me out? Not yet. But she will. In the meantime, I need to make sure that whatever hold that animal had on her is gone.

So, yeah, I’m stealing these moments with her. Savoring them. Knowing, dreading, that she’ll soon find out who I really am. And everything will fall apart. All because of that twisted, perverted monster sitting on death row. Her kidnapper. A convicted serial killer.

My father.

REVIEW: NEVER TEAR US APART is the first installment in Monica Murphy’s contemporary, new adult NEVER TEAR US APART dark, romance duology focusing on twenty year old Katie Watts, and twenty three year old Ethan-a graphic designer who knows more about Katie’s past than she could possible realize.

NOTE: Some of the story line content may be sensitive to some readers.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Katie and Ethan), as well as past and present day timelines, NEVER TEAR US APART follows Katie Watts-a broken and shattered young woman whose twelve year old and present day self are both a victim and a survivor of a serial kidnapper, rapist and murderer. Katie’s guardian angel, a young man she knows as Will, is the only person who can understand what it was she experienced and felt, but Will disappeared from Katie’s life years before, and in the ensuing years Katie has never been able to let go of the past. Enter Ethan-a graphic designer Katie will open her heart to; reveal the truth about herself, and willing to take the next step in her life –but a man who will betray our heroine when his real identity is finally revealed.

NEVER TEAR US APART is a dark story line that skirts around some of the graphic details about what happened to our heroine Katie Watts. The reader is pulled into the mindset of a young woman who constantly reflects on the events of the past-events that she is reminded about when a reporter wants intimate details about what happened years before. The reporter’s timing is circumspect as Katie opens up about the past, and takes the first step in her new journey of recovery only to be broadsided by betrayal and heartbreak, once again.

Monica Murphy writes a tragic, suspense filled, and ruinous tale about one woman’s horrific ordeal at the hands of a serial rapist; an ordeal that comes full circle when the past is opened up like a ‘Pandora’s box’, where secrets are revealed, the truth is manipulated, and an unlikely hero falls at the feet of the woman he loves. The premise is consuming; the characters are somewhat ill-fated, desperate and intense; the romance is a slow build to betrayal and heartbreak. NEVER TEAR US APART ends on a cliff hanger-this is part one of a duology focusing on two people whose lives were destroyed by a mutual evil.

My one concern is the missing eight years-the lack of information and the details about what happened in the ensuing time following Katie’s rescue and subsequent attempt at recovery. Perhaps more will be revealed in book two.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date July 7, 2015

I’m in trouble. Again. And instead of facing my problems head on, I’ve run away. Far away this time, and no one can catch me—not my two younger sisters, Violet and Rose, not my father, my grandmother, or that witch Pilar who wants to take control of my family’s cosmetics company. Now I’m in Hawaii, enjoying the sun and the sand and water, where nobody knows the hot mess known as Lily Fowler. And I’m loving every minute of it.

But someone is watching me. Following me. He’s gorgeous. And soon we’re talking, and against all my instincts, I reveal bits and pieces of myself to Max. It feels good, though I know he can’t be the man for me. These sudden feelings we share are way too complicated, too fraught, too intense.

Then everything explodes and I’m forced to return home. My intentions have always been true, but now everyone’s mad at me. I don’t know who to turn to anymore . . . except to Max. He’s who I want to trust. But I’m not so sure I should. Maybe it’s worth the risk—and what-ifs be damned.

••••••••••••••

REVIEW: TAMING LILY is the third (and final) installment in Monica Murphy’s adult, contemporary The Fowler Sisters romance series focusing on the heirs to the Fleur Cosmetics Company-Violet, Rose and Lily. This is eldest sister Lily and Max’s storyline. TAMING LILY is the third book in the series, it can be read as a stand alone although I recommend reading the series in order for cohesion and backstory.

Told from dual first person points of view (Lily and Max) the storyline follows bad girl Lily as she escapes to Maui for what appears to be some fun and relaxation. But Lily has a watcher; not necessarily a stalker or media personnel, but someone who is keeping watch over everything that Lily does. Enter Max-a private investigator-who has been hired to steal something from Lily for a client who is willing to pay. As the storyline builds, so too does the relationship between Max and Lily, one that will end with heartbreak when the truth about Max is revealed.

Lily is the black sheep of the Fowler Family. Never one to follow the family business, Lily has a reputation as a bad girl: sex, drugs, alcohol and parties. She is considered a loose cannon, and is accorded no respect by the people in charge. Her sisters are constantly worried about her safety; her father has lost all respect for his eldest daughter.

Max hadn’t planned to fall in love but his attraction and need for Lily is unexpected. His current dilemma finds our hero caught between doing a job or walking away without a backwards glance. Max’s action will break Lily’s heart and force our heroine to reveal the truth about her quick escape to Hawaii, and how it will affect the family that she loves.

The sexual relationship between Max and Lily is quick to develop; there is an insta lust quality to their attraction, one that finds our couple in erotic situations; Max likes to ‘spank’ during sexual play.

The secondary and supporting characters include Violet and Ryder, Rose and Caden, as well as a cameo from the head of Fleur Cosmetics Forrest Fowler, and his love interest Pilar. There is a definite evil vibe about Pilar that comes to fruition at the end of the storyline. Grandma Fowler is mysteriously absent, and there is no mention of friends or some of the previous storyline characters.

Again, TAMING LILY, like the previous two installments does not put any energy into Forrest Fowler’s relationship with Pilar, which plays an integral role throughout the series. It would have been nice to witness some of the inter-personal relationship dynamics between the couple; their story is the catalyst behind Lily’s need to escape. There is also the déjà vu aspect of TAMING LILY with the similarities between the first two installments- all of our heroines fall in love with the men trying to destroy their lives.

TAMING LILY (and the Fowler Sisters Series) looks at the destructive nature of power and wealth. There is always someone waiting to destroy what has been built; and someone in the wings hoping to catch you when you fall. Monica Murphy writes a heartbreaking and emotional story for each of her storylines heroines that ends with a happily ever after. Here’s hoping there are a few future novellas to address the family situation.

excerpt

Max:I hate babysitting jobs, though i don’t know if i’d categorize this particular job as babysitting. I rarely take them on because they suck and they’re boring, but the money was too good to resist. If I took every fucking job that came my way because ofhow much they offer to pay me, I’d be a very rich man working the absolute bottom-of-the-barrel shit jobs. Busting cheating spouses. Catching them in compromising positions. Following them, taking photos, feeling sordid and dirty as I reveal said pictures andwatch my client either rage angrily or fall apart in tears.

Those types of jobs are a dime a dozen.

No thanks. I’m lucky enough that I can pick and choose. Though I felt like with this one, I didn’t necessarily pick it. The job chose me.

It also intrigued me. She intrigued me. Not that I’d ever confess that to a living soul. I have integrity. An image to fulfill and maintain, especially when it comes to my business. I’m not one to let my dick make business decisions for me, but this girl. . . is unlike any girl I’ve ever seen before.
The moment I looked at her photo, I knew.

I watch her now, from my aisle seat on the plane, sitting five rows behind her. She’s in the opposite aisle seat and I can get a good look at her profile if I lean forward slightly, which is exactly what I’m doing. It’s wild, how she appears completelydifferent from the photos I saw of her on the web last night while I did my research.

Whereas the endless images in my Google search featured a sexy-as-hell, scantily dressed woman doing whatever the fuck she wants all over Manhattan, this woman I’m watching now is quiet. Subdued. Wearing one of those matching sweat outfits in black withwhite trim, the word PINK scrawled across her very fine ass in glittery sequins. She blends right in on the plane, looks like every other woman her age. Not like the rich-as-fuck heiress she really is.

When she first boarded her hood was up and she had sunglasses on, as if she were trying to conceal her identity, though really she looked obvious as hell, at least to me. The media is always after her, always on her tail, so her incognito mode shouldn’tbe a surprise.

But considering she’s dressed nothing like her usual self, I figure she became comfortable and eventually tugged the hood down, revealing her long, golden-brown hair streaked with bright blond highlights pulled into a high ponytail.

Offering me a tantalizing view of her perfect profile.

Dainty nose, plump lips. Long eyelashes, high cheekbones, slightly pointed chin. Every time someone passes her by she lifts her head, then immediately looks down. Almost as if she’s afraid someone is going to approach her. Like she’s worried someone will realize who she is.

But no one would. She’s unrecognizable. I’d bet top dollar the only one on this plane who knows she’s Lily Fowler is . . . Me.

The moment the plane touches down I whip out my phone and switch it out of airplane mode, watching as a text message appears.

Did you find her?

I answer my client with a quick yes.

Are you watching her now?

I answer again in the affirmative, my gaze fixed on Lily as she, too, grabs her phone and starts to scroll through it.

Try and grab her laptop now.

Frowning at my phone, I contemplate how to reply. I can’t just make a grab while we’re still on the freaking plane and run. I have to be subtle about this. I warned my overeager, over-insistent client. I don’t make rash decisions. I’m not impulsive, atleast when it comes to work. There’s a method to my madness, and acting like a goddamn thief isn’t part of it.

I finally decide to answer.

I already informed you I’m not going to move too fast.

We don’t have much time.

Slowly I shake my head, glancing up to study Lily before I start typing.

We have enough. I’ll get the job done. Don’t worry.

The plane starts to slow as we make our way to the gate and the passengers are getting restless, including myself. My legs are cramped up. Sitting in coach sucks ass and is almost too much for my six-foot-two frame. My knees fucking ache. Even Lily shiftsand moves in her seat, her head turning to glance behind her, straight at me. Our gazes meet briefly and she looks away, pretending that she never saw me.

Anger burns in my gut. Anger and lust. An interesting combo, one I’ve never suffered through before while working. I pride myself on keeping my distance. Work is work. My personal life is just that . . . personal. Not that I have much of one. Not thatI have anyone in my fucking life, which is just the way I like it.

But this girl’s rejection, as brief as it was, digs at me. Pisses me off.

My phone dings and I check it.

She’s fast. Tricky. You need to take your chances when you can.

A snort escapes me. Trying to tell me how to do my job. I wish I could reply with a big “fuck you,” but I don’t. I have more class than that.

I’m faster. Trickier. Trust me. I’ll make it happen. You’ll get what you want.

As I slip my phone into the back pocket of my jeans, the flight attendant starts talking over the intercom, telling us to remain seated until the seat belt fastened lights turn off. We’re at the gate; all the passengers are poised and ready to grab theirshit and disembark. I don’t bother. My carry-on is sitting in the compartment directly above me. I can tell that the lady next to me is dying to leap out of her seat, but I’ll make her wait. Her irritation is already a palpable thing. Like I give a damn.

I gotta move slow. The last thing I need is to catch my subject’s attention. Not this early in the game.

Lily jumps to her feet the second the seat belt light shuts off, popping open the overhead compartment and pulling out a bag. A laptop bag, from the size of it.

With the coveted laptop most likely lying inside.

I curl my fingers into my palms, resting them on my knees. I want that bag. No. Scratch that. My client wants that bag—more like what’s inside of it. So I want it, too.

And I will do anything to get it.

Anything.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date December 2, 2014

New York Times bestselling author Monica Murphy begins a sexy new contemporary romance series—perfect for fans of Christina Lauren and Emma Chase—that introduces three sisters born to wealth, raised to succeed, ready to love, destined to make waves.

I’ve moved through life doing what’s expected of me. I’m the middle daughter, the dutiful daughter. The one who braved a vicious attack and survived. The one who devoted herself to her family’s business empire. The one who met an ambitious man and fell in love. We were going to run Fleur Cosmetics together, Zachary and I.

Until he got a promotion and left me in the dust. Maybe it’s for the best, between his disloyalty and his wandering eye. But another man was waiting for me. Wanting me. He too has an overwhelming thirst for success, just like Zachary—perhaps even more so. He’s also ruthless. And mysterious. I know nothing about Ryder McKay beyond that he makes me feel things I’ve never felt before.

One stolen moment, a kiss, a touch . . . and I’m hooked. Ryder’s like a powerful drug, and I’m an addict who doesn’t want to be cured. He tells me his intentions aren’t pure, and I believe him. For once, I don’t care. I’m willing to risk everything just to be with him. Including my heart. My soul.

STEALING ROSE (The Fowler Sisters #2) by Monica Murphy

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date March 3, 2015

People say the youngest child has it easy, but nothing can be further from the truth. Unlike my two sisters, Violet and Lily, I’m never in the limelight. I just work my butt off for Fleur Cosmetics and get little to no thanks for it. I’ve been pushed too far one too many times, and I’m finally brave enough to do something about it.

Maybe my newfound courage has something to do with the amazing pink and white diamond necklace I wear to the party in Cannes. The instant those dazzling heirloom jewels touch my skin, they excite some deep, aching need inside. And when that guy—that totally gorgeous guy—locks eyes with me, I know this nice girl is going to be naughty.

For once it’s my turn. My turn to say no to my father, to outshine my sisters, to walk away from it all—straight into the arms of a mysterious stranger. But what if Caden is much more than I bargained for? Sure, he makes me feel sexy and free in a way I never have before, but there’s something else I can’t quite place—something dangerous. Maybe our “chance” meeting wasn’t so random. Maybe he was looking for me for a reason. Whatever his motive, there’s no going back now.

And maybe I don’t want to.

•••••••••••••••••

REVIEW: STEALING ROSE is the second installment in Monica Murphy’s new adult, contemporary The Fowler Sisters erotic romance series focusing on the three sisters-Violet, Rose and Lily Fowler-heirs to the Fleur Cosmetics Company. This is the younger Fowler Sister- Rose Fowler and Caden Kingsley’s storyline. STEALING ROSE can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty but saying that I would have liked to see more of Forrest Fowler (the sisters’s father) and his new lover Pilar-the bane of the Fowler Sisters existence-the relationship is important to the understanding of the sisters’s emotional upheaval.

Similar in nature to OWNING VIOLET (Book 1) STEALING ROSE focuses on a ruse against one of the Fowler sisters-in this case-Rose Fowler. Caden Kingsley is a man determined to get what he wants but falling in love is the last thing on his mind. Caden flirts and seduces his way into Rose’s bed and her heart all the while keeping his eye on the ultimate prize. Caden is a professional thief and Rose has something he needs and wants. With the Fowler family matriarch hosting a Fleur Cosmetics event in London, England Caden finds himself drawn to the youngest Fowler sister even though he had targeted her older sister Lily in a game of winner takes all.

Rose is determined to leave Fleur Cosmetics. Her sense of self worth and ability to succeed has been undermined by her father’s newest relationship. As the youngest daughter, Rose feels displaced in her father’s heart; his acceptance of her choices is less than comforting when his own choices have placed his daughters in a precarious position within the company.

The relationship between Caden and Rose is quick to develop. Rose is immediately entranced by Caden’s good looks and charm. Caden is a man on a mission and seducing Rose is the first step in getting what he wants. The $ex scenes begin as a playful tease moving into full fledged seduction and possible love. When the truth about Caden’s motives is revealed, a broken hearted Rose will return to America with a secret she will have a difficult time to hide.

The world building focuses more on Rose and Caden’s relationship than the Fleur Cosmetics Company. As I said previously, it would have been nice to get a more personal look at Forrest Fowler and Pilar as their relationship is the catalyst for the Fowler Sisters’s slow departure from Fleur Cosmetics.

The secondary and supporting characters include Violet and Lily Fowler as well as Violet’s boyfriend Ryder McKay; Grandma Fowler is a forced to be reckoned with; Caden’s mother Cora is an interesting character- a little lost in her own world but a mother who loves her son. Caden’s friends Whitney, and Mitchell Landers whose foray into the London night life leave a little bit to be desired; and Cash-a man who has taught Caden an alternative way to earn a living.

Monica Murphy knows how to tell a story. The Fowler sisters endeavor to hold their place within Fleur Cosmetics but along the way betrayal and heartbreak must be confronted. Our heroines are fallible; the heroes untrustworthy; their storylines not to be missed. Let’s hope Lily can find her happily ever after. Everyone deserves a little love and romance in their lives.

Excerpt Black and Hot Pink

Tonight is open game. The security is loose. The jewels are large and everywhere. The owners of said jewels are careless. More intent on showing off than protecting them, which is fine by me. I’m like a kid in a candy store—I don’t know which way to turn, what to check out next. I want to sample it all, take it all, too, but I need to be discreet. Particular. I need to make the most of this visit and choose the pieces that’ll take us the furthest.

Like the Poppy Necklace curled around Rose Fowler’s beautiful neck. I want it. So does my contact, an old client I haven’t worked for since forever. I’ve been warned off this guy, but the payout is too large to resist. My fingers literally itch to snatch the necklace off Rose’s neck. But how? It’s not a subtle piece and this won’t be easy.

But I love a good challenge. I’ve kept my eye on her from the moment I spotted her at the party. Always staying in the background, calculating every which way I could get the necklace from her.

Then I go and make the biggest mistake of all—becoming heroic and telling that piece of Eurotrash to get his paws off her. I’d been tempted to kick his ass but Rose had stopped me, thank Christ. I don’t know what the hell got into me.

Fine. I know. Seeing the marks on her skin from his slimy fingers pissed me off. I don’t know her, don’t care to know her, but I get all caveman and ready to defend her honor? Makes no sense. She’s pretty, yeah. Sexy as hell in that damn dress, her long, hot-as-fuck legs on blatant display and fueling my imagination.

Which I have no business fueling. I’m here for one purpose—and sex isn’t it.

So I ignored the look we shared when I caught her staring at me from across the room. I broke eye contact first, turning away from her and stepping up to the bar so I could order us two glasses of Champagne. I then made my way across the room, ignoring everyone, not making eye contact. I don’t want a single person to remember me tonight.

REVIEW: OWNING VIOLET is the first installment in Monica Murphy’s contemporary, adult The Fowler Sisters erotic, romance series focusing on heirs to the Fleur Cosmetics Company Violet, Lily and Rose Fowler. This is Violet Fowler and Ryder McKay’s storyline.

Told from alternating first person points of view (Violet and Ryder), OWNING VIOLET finds good girl and daddy’s favorite Violet Fowler in a state of confusion. Believing her less than faithful boyfriend of two years is about to propose, Violet comes away shocked to discover that Zachary has accepted a temporary position in London, England with Fleur Cosmetics. Dismissed and discarded, Violet will unknowingly find herself the pawn in a much different game when the sexy head of packaging for Fleur Cosmetics-Ryder McKay-takes an immediate interest in Violet where an anything goes relationship is just what she needs. Hoping to keep their tryst a secret, Violet agrees to a ‘friends with benefits’ affair not realizing that someone else is pulling Ryder’s strings. What began as a dare becomes something so much more.

The relationship between Violet and Ryder is spontaneous, erotic and sensual. From the boardroom conference table, to the bedroom and every surface in between Ryder and Violet’s supposedly secret affair becomes fodder for the employees at Fleur Cosmetics. Violet is considered the quiet, shy and overachieving sister but in the bedroom a different side of Violet will emerge.

Ryder is a bad boy with a bad boy reputation; an alpha male with dark secrets and a darker past but when Violet is told that everything about their relationship is a ruse, Violet will walk away heartbroken and destroyed. Ryder has made a pact with the devil and the devil has set her sights on someone more powerful within the company. Ryder is a man who demands obedience in the bedroom; a little rougher around the edges with his needs and wants. The sex scenes are numerous, provocative and intense.

We are introduced to Violet’s sisters Lily and Rose. There are some broken family dynamics as it involves Forrest Fowler and his daughters, but none more so than the destructive nature of betrayal and loss. Forrest’s new love interest could very well destroy the company and that of his daughters’ respect and love.

OWNING VIOLET focuses on the corporate ladder and what some people will do to get what they want. There are moments of intimate passion and heartbreaking revelations but in the end two people will get their happily ever after. Monica Murphy’s incredible imagination will pull you in and never let go.

Interview-Purple

TRC: Hi Monica and welcome back to The Reading Cafe.

Monica: Thanks so much for having me, Sandy!

Monica MurphyTRC: For anyone who does know you or your alter ego Karen Erickson, would you please tell us something about yourself?

FOLLOW: GoodreadsWebsiteFacebookTwitter

Monica: Absolutely. I’m Monica Murphy and I write both new adult and contemporary romance for Bantam and Avon. I also write contemporary romance as Karen Erickson. The difference between the two pen names? Monica writes in first person point of view and the books are a little darker with a lot of angst. As Karen, I write third person POV and the books are still sexy but lighter and fun.

TRC: When not writing, what do you do to relax? For fun?

Monica: I like to read, hang out with my family, watch bad reality TV (Bravo is my weakness). We also like to travel though I wouldn’t always call that relaxing.

TRC: OWNING VIOLET is your December 2014 release and first installment in your new Fowler Sisters series. Would you please tell us something about the premise?

Owning Violet Dec 14Monica: The Fowler Sisters are heiresses to Fleur Cosmetics company, which was founded by their grandmother and is currently run by their father. There are three sisters: Lily is the oldest and is a complete party girl mess. Rose is the youngest and she’s very headstrong — she doesn’t hold back. And then we have Violet, the middle sister, the dutiful sister, the one who is being groomed to take over Fleur. At the beginning of OWNING VIOLET she believes her life is perfectly set down a specific path. But then everything changes and she becomes involved with the very mysterious, very sexy Ryder McKay, who works at Fleur.

TRC: How many books do you have planned for the series ?

Monica: Three. So far. Never say never to the possibility of more.

TRC: If you could virtually cast the leading characters in this storyline, which models or actors best represents your ideal image?

Monica: This is so tough! I don’t really have anyone in mind for the guys. They are always in my head (and just the perfect, ideal man of course). For the sisters, I could see Leighton Meester, Mila Kunis…dark haired, beautiful actresses would fit the bill for all three of them really.

Stealing RoseTRC: STEALING ROSE is the second installment in the series. What can you tell us about the premise?

Monica: STEALING ROSE is completely different compared to OWNING VIOLET. Though Rose is having a moment of crisis when the book starts out and she meets a mysterious man…but Caden is nothing like Ryder. He’s much lighter. Very sexy. Oh, very sexy. I adore Caden and can’t wait for readers to meet him!

TRC: Who or what was the inspiration behind the series and the sisters?

Monica: I’ve been wanting to write a series about three sisters named after flowers forEVER. It’s been lying in wait in my idea file (seriously – I found notes on The Fowler Sisters recently dating back to 2007) for a long time. I wanted to write something glamorous, edgy, emotional and over the top sexy. I hope this series hits all of those notes and more.

TRC: What challenges of difficulties did you experience writing this particular series?

Monica: Ryder is quite frankly, not a nice person. Caden in STEALING ROSE does bad things too. And Lily from TAMING LILY is a mess. I like taking characters that seem unredeemable and redeem them. It’s fun. I’m fascinated by the anti-hero (and heroine).

TRC: When writing a storyline, do the characters direct the writing or do you direct the characters?

Monica: At first I direct the characters but they always take over. It sounds crazy but as I write, I discover more and more and they tend to steer the stories where they need to go. It’s always a surprise. That’s why I can never plot every little chapter/step out. That process just doesn’t work for me.

TRC: December and January are busy times for you as an author. As Karen Erickson, you have two books in your Vegas Nights Series due to be released (one month apart). Would you please tell us something about each book?

Monica: December 23, 2014-WICKED WEEKEND: This is a FREE short story that releases right before Christmas and introduces you to the characters that will appear in the VEGAS NIGHTS series. Three friends who are nurses and work all the time take a girls only vacation to Vegas. Where they end up meeting a guy who invites them to an exclusive party. Of course, they meet the sexiest men alive there and proceed to fall madly in love.

January 13, 2015- RECKLESS NIGHTS: This is Reagan and Declan’s story. Declan is an actor who’s career has been given a second chance. He used to be a teen heartthrob–and Reagan’s teen crush. To her, having a chance to spend time with the sexy Declan is like a dream come true. And for Declan, he feels the same.

Two more novellas are coming in the series, in the spring and summer of 2015. More info soon.

TRC: Do you have plans to add to your ONE WEEK GIRLFRIEND series with either a novella or epilogue set of storylines perhaps focusing on each couple (e.g. 5-10 years in the future)? 😉

One Week Girlfriend Series

Monica: I get asked this question a lot, especially about Owen and Chelsea (FOUR YEARS LATER). Many feel like their story was left unfinished. I will never say never. Who knows. The opportunity may arise again someday. I do know I miss writing in that world. Drew + Fable are special to me. They always will be.

TRC: The mark of a good writer is to pull the reader into the storyline so that they experience the emotions along with the characters. What do you believe a writer must do to make this happen? Where do you believe writer’s fail in this endeavor?

Monica: Hmm, well I think it helps to go as deep within the point of view of the characters as we can get. That’s where first person POV comes in handy. You as the reader truly feel like you’re experiencing what the characters are experiencing. As a writer you just have to reach deep and be genuine in describing the emotions. Both the good and the bad.

TRC: Writer’s Block is a very real phenomenon. How do you handle the pressures and anxiety of writer’s block?

Monica: There’s this thing called a deadline that won’t allow me to get writer’s block. *winks* Seriously, this is my career, I’ve been writing full time for years and I can’t allow myself to get stuck for too long. I have a schedule and I must meet it. I think we can train ourselves to push through and get it done. We can always go back and fix it.

TRC: Many authors bounce ideas and information with other authors or friends
and family. With whom do you bounce ideas?

Monica: My critique partner is Katy Evans and she’s my saving grace. I adore and trust her input and opinion. And I know she feels the same way about me.

I also like to bounce ideas off of my husband. He comes up with the CRAZIEST stuff. Like, bizarre. But I can always pull a little something from the crazy and make it work. He’s my go to when I’m really stuck. He always comes up with some insane idea. Ha ha I make him sound like he’s nuts. He’s not. I swear. *winks*

TRC: What three things would you like to accomplish in the next five years?

Monica:

I want to maintain and grow my career. Try something different, writing-wise.
I’d like to travel more with my family.
And learn how to work just a little less (we shall see on that one).

TRC: On what are you currently working?

Monica: I just turned in TAMING LILY to my editor so I expect edits/revisions on that any day now. I’m also working on the second novella for the VEGAS NIGHTS series as Karen.

TRC: Would you like to add anything else?

Monica: I’m excited for readers to pick up OWNING VIOLET and I hope they enjoy it. It’s different compared to what I’ve written as Monica in the past but I think my readers will love it. Hopefully.

TRC:  Thank you Monica for taking the time to answer our questions. Congratulations on all of your success and your upcoming new releases.

Monica: Thank you again Sandy! I appreciate it.

FOUR YEARS LATER (One Week Girlfriend #4 ) by Monica Murphy-a review

Four Years Later Feb 14

Amazon.com / Amazon.ca / Amazon.uk/ Barnes and Noble/ The Book Depository

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date March 4, 2014

Owen’s story

New Adult bestselling author Monica Murphy winds up her sensational series with this sexy story of two college kids with nothing in common but a bunch of baggage and a burning attraction.

Over. That about sums up everything in my life. Suspended from my college football team and forced to cut back my hours at The District bar because of my crappy grades, I can’t keep turning to my sister, Fable, and her pro-football playing husband, Drew, to bail me out. I just can’t seem to find my own way. Weed and sex are irresistible temptations—and it’s messed up that I secretly hand over money to our junkie mom. A tutor is the last thing I want right now—until I get a look at her.

Chelsea is not my type at all. She’s smart and totally shy. I’m pretty sure she’s even a virgin. But when she gives me the once over with those piercing blue eyes, I’m really over. But in a different way. I won’t deny her ass is killer, but it’s her brain and the way she seems to crave love—like no one’s ever given her any—that make me want her more than any girl I’ve ever met. But what would someone as seemingly together as her ever see in a screwed up guy like me?

••••••••••••••••••••••

REVIEW: FOUR YEARS LATER is the fourth and final instalment in Monica Murphy’s new adult, contemporary, romance series that began with Drew and Fable’s story. Four Years Later fast forwards the series four years but approximately one year following Drew & Fable Forever. This is Owen and Chelsea’s story-Owen is Fable’s younger brother and is having some difficulty integrating into the college life-especially when his past refuses to let him go.

FOUR YEARS LATER follows Owen as the up and coming football star whose life is beginning to spiral out of control. When a tutor is hired to help Owen with his grades, he finds himself sexually and physically attracted to the shy and virginal Chelsea Simmons. But Owen’s failing grades are a combination of many demons including the reappearance of someone who walked away years before. As their relationship builds, so too do the secrets they hide from one another. But it is Owen’s denial of his relationship with Chelsea that will push away the woman with whom he is falling in love.

Monica Murphy brings together the major players first introduced in One Week Girlfriend. From dysfunctional family dynamics, heartbreaking backstories and happily ever afters, we have followed the Drew and Fable saga beginning with a traumatic tale of neglect and abuse to the rising success of a once fourteen year old boy whose looking to the future with the woman he loves.

Monica Murphy claims that FOUR YEARS LATER is the conclusion to the One Week Girlfriend/Drew & Fable series, but there is so much left unanswered where Owen and Chelsea are concerned. The final storyline is open ended with Owen and Chelsea in the ‘here and now’-with no plans for the present-and in this, there are so many more stories yet to be told. Let’s hope Monica has a few short stories lined up for Chelsea and Owen.

If you are a fan of the Drew & Fable/One Week Girlfriend series, Four Years Later looks at what happens to a young man who has had a difficult time fitting in – abandoned by his mother; never knowing his father; and expected to follow in the footsteps of his famous and much older brother in law. Monica Murphy draws the reader into a story that is not as emotional or heartbreaking as One Week Girlfriend but a story that will tug at your heart-none the less.

ABOUT THE BOOK:

Monica Murphy returns with her most beloved characters, Drew and Fable, in this eBook original 40,000-word novella that brings her bestselling New Adult series full circle.

Fantasy. How I ended up with NFL player Drew Callahan, the guy every woman wants, is beyond my wildest dreams. All I know is that once he chose me as his one and only, I sure wasn’t looking back. I had past wounds and he showed patience and concern—even taking responsibility for my messed-up kid brother. Now, once again, he’s found a way to blow my mind: an exotic wedding and honeymoon miles and miles away from home. What else could a girl ever ask for?

Reality. Now the honeymoon’s over. Drew’s football schedule takes him on the road constantly, while I need to stay put and look after my brother until he finishes high school—because God knows our sorry excuse for a mother won’t. I know Drew loves me with all his heart, and I’ll always be over the moon about him. This just isn’t how I imagined our life as newlyweds . . . dealing with the distance, missing him all the time. But we’ve gone through hard times before. We can get through this, too, right? We’re Drew and Fable, together forever. At least I hope so. . . .

REVIEW: DREW AND FABLE is the latest storyline (novella) in Monica Murphy’s contemporary, new adult series focusing on twenty something Drew Callahan and Fable. The storyline advances the series four years as we watch our leading couple fall deeper in love while contemplating their future.

The premise follows Drew as he embarks on his professional football career as a quarterback for the San Franciso Forty Niners. While Drew is away, Fable must learn to live as a professional athlete’s wife-always the focus of gossip and the paparazzi, Drew and Fable will be forced into the spotlight on more than one occasion.

Fable’s brother Owen plays a more significant role in this particular novel in preparation for his upcoming storyline to be released later in 2014. At the end of the book, Owen will be in his second year of college and becomes a more integral part of Drew and Fable’s life. And Drew and Fable’s life is to about to become a lot more busy.

Monica Murphy has written an emotional storyline that will answer many questions; close some doors and open several others. For fans of the series, Drew and Fable Forever is the perfect story with just the right amount of sensuality, love and happily ever after.

excerpt

“We should check out Ocean Avenue tomorrow,” Drew whispers close to my ear, amusement tingeing his deep voice.

“What? Are you serious?” Even though I’ve come to terms with being here, it doesn’t mean I want to linger and make it a serious vacation. Besides, Drew needs to get back home so he can resume practice.

“Well yeah, remember the spot where we kissed?” His eyes are warm as they search my face, filled with so much love I feel my heart swell.

“Yes,” I whisper achingly. “Of course I remember.”

“I want to go back there.” He tucks a strand of hair behind my ear, his index finger lingering on my skin. “I want to kiss you again in that little alley and remember how wet we were from the rain. How nervous I was. I was scared you might reject me.”

I’d felt the same way. We’d dealt with much of the same feelings and fears and hadn’t even known it.

“I want to take you to that store where you got the dress that just about killed me and buy you whatever you want,” he continues, his fingers drifting across my jaw. My eyes flutter closed as memories rush back at me. “I want to sit outside the dressing room and have you come out to show me every single thing you’re trying on.”

That he remembers all the little details sends a thrill of pleasure spiraling to the very depths of my soul.

“And then I want to wander off for a bit and let you do whatever you want, secretly hoping that you’ll send me a text that says marshmallow. Though if you don’t that’s okay because I’ll send you one instead.” He offers up a crooked smile and the sight of it cracks my heart wide open, overflowing with so much pure love for him I want to cry. “Because we made a deal. Whenever we see or hear that word, the other comes running. I’ll always be the one to rescue you, Fable. You never have to worry about that.”

THREE BROKEN PROMISES (Drew and Fable #3) by Monica Murphy

About the book: Release Date December 31, 2013

Commitment. That’s what I really want from Colin. Ever since my brother, Danny, died in Iraq, Colin’s done so much to help me, including giving me a job at his popular restaurant so I can leave my crappy waitressing job at the strip joint. But lying in bed with him every night to comfort him from his horrible nightmares isn’t enough anymore. I know he feels guilty about Danny’s death, about not going to Iraq, but I can’t keep living this double life.

I love him desperately, but he’s got so many demons, and if he can’t open up to me now, then he’ll never be the real partner I need him to be. I gave him a month, and now I’m out of here. If he truly loves me like he says, he knows where to find me.

••••••••••••••••••••••••

REVIEW: THREE BROKEN PROMISES is the third storyline in Monica Murphy’s contemporary, new adult series Drew and Fable. Although this is not the continuing adventures of Drew and Fable it is Jen and Colin’s story-Jen is Fable’s BFF and Colin is their boss. The story is told from first person POV –alternating between Colin and Jen.

The storyline focuses on two twenty-something people who have more than a difficult time expressing their feelings to one another. Colin is a man possessed by the demons of war where his best friend Danny died leaving Colin the sole protector of Danny’s sister Jen. Jen and Colin’s relationship has always been more like brother and sister although neither want to address the proverbial elephant in the room-their mutual attraction for one another and the sexual tension and heat whenever they are together. Now that Jen lives under the same roof with Colin, she finds herself becoming Colin’s protector whenever the nightmares overpower his ability to sleep and think.

Jen has a backstory that is slowly revealed throughout the storyline and one that is both heartbreaking and shocking to her friends and Colin. Knowing that Colin would never accept her past, Jen gives her notice and prepares to leave the security of her friends, her job and the man with whom she has fallen in love. The secrets they keep from one another weigh heavily with each waking day.

The storyline is rife with angst and anxiety as Jen and Colin push each other at every step of the way. Jen needs and wants Colin to admit he has feelings for her but Colin believes it is his duty to protect Jen from others and men like himself. He wants Jen; he needs Jen; but in the end, his inability to express his love for Jen will push her away one final time. And in this, she walks into another situation even more dangerous than the one she left behind.

The world building and sexual tension continue throughout the storyline but much of the time was spent in ruminations and thoughts about what ifs and whys; Fable’s brother Owen is but a blip on the radar although his storyline is the next to be told; and Drew and Fable play minor secondary roles throughout the story.

But I did have an issue with the quick resolution to the build up of the story. The plot and premise of the final confrontation felt disjointed and disconnected to the storyline; it came out of left field and I was thinking-WTH just happened and where did that come from?

THREE BROKEN PROMISES is a well written storyline but I didn’t feel the connection to the leading couple as I did with Drew and Fable’s story. Although there is plenty of angst and anxiety there was none of the heartbreaking revelations that pulled me into the story where I felt for the characters as I did with Drew and Fable. Perhaps it was Colin and Jen’s personalities or their lack of communication with one another-for two people in their twenties they still had plenty of growing up to do.

Monica Murphy-Interview and Giveaway with the Author

Monica Murphy – Interview and Giveaway with the Author

I recently experienced the emotional ride that is Drew + Fable and wanted to get to know the person behind the author Monica Murphy. One Week Girlfriend pulled at my heart; dragged several tears and tissues out of hiding; and had me wondering how many young men and women may be caught in the same horrifying nightmare.

Second Chance Boyfriend was released in April 2013 (the sequel to Drew + Fable) and with that the realization that ‘Karma is truly a b*tch’. The Reading Cafe would like to introduce MONICA MURPHY-the author of One Week Girlfriend and Second Chance Boyfriend.

FOLLOW Monica: Website / Blog / Twitter / Facebook / Amazon/Goodreads /

TRC: Hi Monica and welcome to The Reading Café. Congratulations on the success of ONE WEEK GIRLFRIEND and SECOND CHANCE BOYFRIEND.

Monica: Thank you so much! And thanks for having me. I’m excited to be here. 🙂

TRC: We would like to start with some background information. Would you please tell us something about yourself?

Monica: Well, I grew up in Northern California, I now live in central California and I’m a wife of one, mom of three. When I’m not writing (ha ha), I’m spending time with my family, reading or wishing I was traveling. Preferably to Hawaii. 😉

TRC: You write under several different genres including New Adult, Contemporary Romance and Historical Romance. Which genre do you prefer to write and why?

Monica: I love writing all of them! What I like about writing in different subgenres is that I don’t get bored. I like changing it up. It’s fun. I haven’t written a historical in quite a while and I’m starting to miss it. I hope to get back to working on one next year.

TRC: Would you please tell us something about the premise of your highly successful ONE WEEK GIRLFRIEND and SECOND CHANCE BOYFRIEND novels?

Monica: A hot football player asks a down on her luck townie to go to his parents’ house for Thanksgiving week and pretend to be his girlfriend for cash. But once they spend time together, they realize they have a lot more in common than they thought. And are soon falling for each other…completely.

TRC: The novels are a roller coaster of emotions, especially One Week Girlfriend with the traumatic revelations and Drew’s family disfunctionality. What or who influenced the storyline premise?

Drew and Fable

Links to Order SECOND CHANCE BOYFRIEND: Amazon.com / Amazon.ca / Barnes and Noble / KOBO / The Book Depository

Monica: I saw a report on my local news about an attractive, young female teacher who was arrested for having sex with her student. Her excuse? She thought the 17 year old was really 18. It got me thinking, if that had been a male teacher and female student, she would’ve been treated as a victim who’d been completely violated by a trusted adult. When it comes to a male 17 year old who’s having sex with a teacher? It’s treated more like a notch on his bedpost. Like, ooh, he’s getting some with the hot teacher.

I hate that double standard. I wanted to create a male victim who doesn’t know how to react to what happened to him. That victim became Drew.

Fable’s been in my head since 2009. I tried to write a YA with her as the main character (a completely different version of Fable by the way) but it bombed spectacularly. She’s been lingering in my brain ever since. I knew she was the perfect match for Drew.

TRC: What challenges did you face (logistically, psychologically, research) in writing this series?

Monica: Drew’s story is tragically sad so that was hard at times. This is not a light and fluffy story but I did want to have as much hope infused in the book as possible. So that was difficult, trying to find that balance. Not to make it too heavy or too light. I didn’t want to make light of the subject matter either. I hope I didn’t. That was my biggest fear.

And I wanted to show that despite what a person has been through, ultimately, everyone deserves love and acceptance.

Logistically I’ve been to Carmel and the Monterey Bay (where Drew is from) many times. It’s truly one of my favorite places to go. It’s so beautiful and I guess I wanted to show that even in the beautiful places there’s ugliness.

The town where Fable lives and where Drew goes to college? I never name it but it’s totally based on where I lived and went to college, Chico, CA. In fact, I’ve had quite a few astute readers email me asking if I based it on Chico. Yep, I sure did.

TRC: Is there a message in the novel that you would like the readers to understand?

Monica: I try not to write a book with a message per say because I don’t want anyone to think I’m preaching at them. I will say that in regards to OWG and SCB, appearances are not always as they seem. Everyone thinks Drew’s life is perfect? Not even close.

TRC: Are the experiences in the book based on someone you know or events in your own life?

Monica: No, I made this entire story up in my head! I don’t know what that says about me but…LOL.

TRC: What part of the book(s) was the most difficult for you to write?

Monica: It was hard writing the reveal in OWG. The scene where Drew tells Fable what happened even though Fable pretty much already had it figured out. Heck, so did the readers but I wanted it to be that way. I wanted readers to know what happened but not want to face it you know? Like a bad car wreck you shouldn’t look at but do anyway.

TRC: Will we see more of Drew and Fable in upcoming storylines?

Monica: Absolutely! They’re appearing in the next two books of the (unnamed) series, especially FOUR YEARS LATER, which is Owen’s book. They’ll play a huge part in his book since they’re the ones who took over raising Owen once their mom took off.

TRC: Would you please tell us how you deal with the stress and anxiety of deadlines while trying to balance family life and writing?

Monica: Um, I freak out on occasion? LOL It’s so hard. I took on too much this year – writing as Monica was an unexpected experiment that turned into this amazing thing that completely changed my career. I’m still blown away by everything that’s happened!

My husband is a huge help. He stays at home and helps take care of the kids and the house. I couldn’t do this without him. He makes my life a LOT easier. I love that guy. 😉

TRC: On what are you currently working?

Monica: Currently I’m writing THREE BROKEN PROMISES, which is Jen and Colin’s story (Jen is Fable’s friend, Colin is Fable’s boss). It’s exciting to be back in this world but also nerve wracking. I hope readers respond as well to Jen and Colin as they did to Drew + Fable.

TRC: Would you like to add anything else?

Monica: I’m thrilled that so many readers enjoy Drew + Fable’s story and I hope they love my new series I’m writing for Avon as well – the Billionaire Bachelors Club. The first book, CRAVE comes out in August.

I also want to thank all the readers, reviewers and bloggers for their continued support. I couldn’t do this writing thing without you all!
