Told from dual first person perspectives (Kat and Lev) using two different time lines MINE follows Katerina Blake on her nineteenth birthday where she will meet Lev Antonov, a man who is about to destroy her world. On the run, following the murder of her friend, Katerina will leave everything behind when her world collides with the Russian mob. Four years will pass before Kat must face the past, a past that will quickly divide into two intersecting paths. Trying to protect the son he never knew, Lev Antonov forces Kat back into his life, only to discover that he has brought the mob back to Kat’s front door. REVIEW: DESCENT by Natasha Knight is the second instalment in the author’s adult, contemporary, dark, erotic romance series set in the Benedetti Brothers Mafia World. This is businessman Hayden Montgomery, and Persephone Abbot’s story line. DESCENT can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. You do not have to have read the previous series to follow the story or timeline.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Hayden and Persephone) DESCENT follows in the aftermath of an accident that left Persephone’s father clinging to life. With the family business and empire crumbling and nearing foreclosure Persephone’s only option to sign over control to the enemy, a man who is hoping to destroy what’s left of the Abbot empire. Enter businessman Hayden Montgomery, and the man with whom Persephone will fall in love. What ensues is the building but acrimonious relationship between Persephone and Hayden, and the potential fall-out as sins of the past threaten to destroy them all.

The relationship between Hayden and Persephone is a contemptuous at best; a forced enemies to lovers relationship in an effort to take control of what was, and what will never be. Every aspect of Persephone’s life will be controlled by a man determined to get revenge, control that pushes the boundaries of questionable consent, and forcible $ex. The $ex scenes are aggressive and rough but I struggled with the use of a certain four-letter word in my ‘romance’ story lines.

We are introduced to Persephone’s younger sister Lizzie and their father Quincy Abbot and their step-mother Irina; Hayden’s twin brother Ares, and their brother Jonas, as well as their father Jeremiah Montgomery. There is a cameo appearance by Dominic Benedetti, his wife Gia, and mobster Angus Scave.

DESCENT is a story of fracture family dynamics; of secrets and lies; unforgiveable sins and retribution. The premise is dark and gritty; the characters are edgy, tragic and broken; the romance is questionable but passionate.

Naïve and often TSTL (too stupid to live) our heroine places her trust in the wrong people, time and again, trust that will be destroyed at every turn. The $ex scenes are erotic, intense, dramatic and controlling.

The colorful secondary and supporting characters include Stefan’s right hand man and cousin Rafa Catalano, his father Francesco Catalan; Rafa’s cousin Clara; Gabriela’s father Gabriel, and her brother Gabe; and Stefan’s housekeeper Miss Millie. Here’s hoping the author has plans for Rafa’s story.

DAMAGE is a character driven story of family, betrayal, vengeance and retaliation; a story of blood, power, ascendance and control; of secrets and lies. The premise is dark, suspenseful, thought provoking and edgy; the characters are broken and tragic: the romance is disturbing, often heart breaking but passionate. DAMAGE is a startling and emotional dark romance with a twist that I suspected early on.

It’s midnight when we’re back at the house and I carry her to my room. She doesn’t resist when I strip off her clothes, her underthings still damp, and put her in the shower under a flow of hot water. I strip too and step in beside her and there’s no resistance when I kiss her. When I take her in my arms and kiss her as the water washes sea salt from us.She opens to me and I cup the back of her head. I don’t ever want to stop kissing her. Don’t ever want to stop holding her like this.When the water begins to cool, I switch off the shower and dry her then myself before lifting her up and carrying her to my bed. I lay her down and lie down beside her, shifting so I’m on top of her but keeping most of my weight on my forearms so I don’t crush her.I slide one hand down and cup the mound of her breast. I run my fingernail over her nipple, and she moans into my mouth. When I pull away, it’s to look at her.

She licks her lips, reaches up to touch my cheek, slides her hand down to my chest and sets it against my heart.

We don’t talk. We don’t say a single word. Not for a long while. We just kiss and kiss and look at each other. And I can’t get enough of touching her. Tasting her. Can’t get close enough to her.

“Christ, Gabriela,” I start. “I want you.” I roll off her and onto my side to slide my hand down over her belly.

She cups my cheek, touches her mouth to mine. “Kiss me again.”
