ANYTHING FOR YOU (2013) is a short story of a breast cancer survivor, Nurse Jen St. James and Sergeant First Class Shane Garrison who was first featured in their budding love story in BECAUSE OF YOU (a debut e-novel 2011) by contemporary military romance writer, Jessica Scott.

The story starts off months after Jen and Shane started their new found relationship. How we thought they lived happily ever after; Scars and all. Ms. Scott gave this couple a reality beyond the fairy tale ending to their new love. As a new couple they still had fears they’ve kept from each other. Tough decisions needs to be made and only the strongest and the most understanding of couples will succeed in their relationship.

I didn’t want to make this review long giving too much information because I did not want to give too much away…given the story itself is as it was stated…Short. But even with the shortened plot, I liked the message that Jessica Scott was trying to pass on to her readers: open communication and compromissary. Making tough decisions like what Shane has to go through involves compromise and an understanding partner who will be willing to accept the alternatives. These are fine points in building a strong and lasting relationship.

REVIEW: Long ago, Demons and Lycans have lived in harmony… Until one kind, humans, decided to change that. For the Lycans, it is to dominate or be dominated. And some have become ruthless, because of their nature that their numbers have suspiciously climbed. To control the growth of the Lycan population; and for other personal reasons, a mad scientist, General Jackson Wade, created an almost indestructible human army…the Alexi soldiers.

As a rule, Alexi soldiers are forbidden to pursue any of their personal vengeance. But Ayden isn’t just any other Alexi soldier. She is General Wade’s first and prized immortal creation to succeed. In addition, he alters the Alexi’s memories so they only remember the last few minutes of their attack. A fuel when it comes to combats with the Lycans. That memory alone and the mentality that she does not belong to no one, has made her decide to leave the compound and to seek revenge. Partnering up with the Sons of Wrath, demon warriors of vengeance, they have managed to eliminate a significant number of Lycans in the Detroit city. Still, something did not seem right…

Kane Walker, a Director for the Children’s Cancer Institute, has only days before he becomes one of Ayden’s most hated enemy. But with any physical contact with Ayden, images will flash in her mind. A memory? Hers, or the Lycan who had killed her? She does not know, and she’s determined to find out; promising his death in the end before his final transformation. However, going through with this new mission might mean a disaster to the rest of her Alexi life. So is she ready to find out the truth? And what will she do to Kane as he brings forth warm sensual feelings that are foreign yet pleasant to her?

SOUL AVENGED is the first novel of Keri Lakes new series the Sons of Wrath. As was stated above, Wrath demons are warriors of vengeance, they are the sons of the demon Prince, Wrath. They are responsible to punish those who have wronged on earth. Furthermore, they don’t make deals, rather they make contracts. That was how Ayden happened to be under their protection and has become her partners when seeking out to eradicate the Lycans.

This novel contains some gruesome scenes as are shown in horror films. As detailed as it was, the scene did not bother me…but for a reader with a weak stomach, might be a different story. This was an exciting and entertaining read. Although it’s Ayden’s and Kane’s story, meeting the sons of Wrath (Gavin, Logan, Calix, Zeke and his twin brother Zayne) makes it a quintuple excitement because they must find their Tazschla (mate) or suffer the Sovidon where it forces them to choose a mate to ensure the continuation of their species.

Until There Was You by Jessica Scott-a review

Until There Was You by Jessica Scott-a review

UNTIL THERE WAS YOU by Jessica Scott (a review)

A Coming Home series by Contemporary Military Romance writer, Jessica Scott, tells a love story about the brave women and men actively serving the war who finds love and passion from the most unexpected people. Her second novel, UNTIL THERE WAS YOU (October 2012), brings together two imperfect couples with a dreadful past to have a chance at a happily ever after.

The Military has strict orders that breaking them will result in disciplinary action or worse, a military discharge…Not something you want if you love what you do. But sometimes, no matter the consequences, rules are meant to be broken. At least, that is what Captain Claire Montoya believes; especially if it means saving lives or to spare a dear friends career. She has made very few friends, a result of trust being broken one too many times in her youth. She now hides behind her uniform to face the world and uses her rank to conceal her terrible past. No one strong and arrogant enough to shake the impenetrable wall she had built around herself… until there was Evan.

One fatal mistake made a long time ago has forever changed Captain Evan Loehr’s outlook of life. He now strictly follow the rules, got his rank naturally by sticking to those rules.  One important personal rule he was sure not to break: mixing business with pleasure. So why, after meeting Claire Montoya that one time a few years back, was it difficult to get her off his mind? Not that they can have a decent conversation without having to throw insults at each other. Evan wants answers, and to get it, he must willingly throw his “I don’t date Army women” rule out the window…

UNTIL THERE WAS YOU is a lesson in love for both Claire and Evan. Proving that opposites do attract, they must also learn the power of forgiveness and acceptance of the tragedies in their past and together lead a new path for a brighter and happier future. This is a sweet and tender love story. You will enjoy reading about Claire and Evan as they make tough decisions and sacrifices for love.

Jessica Scott’s Coming Home Novels will make you laugh, cry and sigh with gratification. Besides having her Heroes in the Army and loving what they do, they also share a love of enigmatic tattoos… I wouldn’t be surprised if Trent in book 3 (BACK TO YOU~Trent and Laura~Spring 2013) carries a similar mysterious body art; I will then have to assume the tattoos on Scott’s gorgeous male leads to be her trademark to all her coming home heroes…Unless of course she denies this 🙂 So what would it be Ms Scott, True or False? 😉

BECAUSE OF YOU (Coming Home #1) by Jessica Scott-a review

BECAUSE OF YOU by Jessica Scott-a review

BECAUSE OF YOU by Jessica Scott

BECAUSE OF YOU (A Coming Home Novel, November 2011) one of Loveswept’s first original e-book publication in over a decade and is a debut novel for Contemporary Military Romance writer Jessica Scott. She introduces Shane Garrison and Jen St. James as they learn to accept and deal with life’s hardships and a choice to take a chance at love again.

A nurse and a breast cancer survivor, Jen St. James, perceive herself as broken, flawed and damaged. Surviving breast cancer should be something to celebrate about, but the scars it left behind only made her emotionally depressed and physically insecure. Thanks to a bastard of an ex-boyfriend who embarrassed her in a bar crowd two years before, she has avoided social outings; until the night her best friend, Laura Davila, succeeded in having her to go out again and simply have fun. It was the night she met Shane Garrison. A night he made her feel beautiful and, for the first time since she recovered from her surgery, like a whole woman again.

Infantry Platoon Sergeant First Class Shane Garrison is very passionate about his job and takes great responsibility for his soldiers. It matters a lot that he keeps his soldiers from harm and safely delivers them back to the loving arms of their family. Only a few months into his latest deployment running combat patrols, however, a bombing incident caused him severe injuries that he was mandated he’d be returned back to the United States for an intensive treatment and to recover. Surprisingly, the woman he met at the bar the night before his last deployment, a night he made a connection with, that night had given him a reason for coming home, Jen St. James, was assigned to be his nurse.

Shane had a difficult time accepting the extent of his war injuries. Being rendered immobile only made him furiously angry for he can’t be in Iraq alongside his men. Angry too, because he could not even help those of his wounded soldiers who were affected physically and emotionally from further harming themselves. Most of all, he resents that he finds himself weak, useless and helpless.
Jen fully understood Shane’s depression. She also remembers who stood by her and held her hand at her weakest moments. Now she is determined to do the same for Shane. He maybe a stubborn patient, but Jen is compassionate, tolerant, and persistent enough to get him to understand that in time, he will heal and he could still be able to make a difference to the lives of the people he cares about.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading BECAUSE OF YOU. The gradual build of the romance between Shane and Jen I thought was sweet and tender. I am also glad that Ms. Scott did not leave out the importance of friendship for the support in the process of overcoming a life changing illness. For one, Jen had Laura, a significant character throughout Jen’s recovery with breast cancer. For another, Shane had Captain Trent Davila and Sergeant Vic Carponti, a well-liked guy but a major thorn to Shane’s side. It was quite funny actuallyJ. Vic lost his arm the same day Shane was wounded, but even a lost limb did not change his annoying, sarcastic and cheerful personality. Vic’s an optimistic, he perceives his injury as a second chance in life and that was an important example for Shane…Though he must be willing to accept that fact.
Furthermore, the latest deployment is already affecting Trent and Laura’s marriage. Now that Trent is back home for a short time, I wonder what he’ll do to save it.

Loveswept’s debut author, Jessica Scott, is an active duty Army officer. She is a Company Commander in charge of over a hundred soldiers with a loving husband and two well-adjusted daughters. Her second novel in the Coming Home series, UNTIL THERE WAS YOU (Evan & Claire’s story) is scheduled to be released October 2012. And a short novella of Trent and Laura’s story, BACK TO YOU, will be released sometime in the spring of 2013.

I do believe that if the Company Commander is not aiming her deadly weapons at a target, she is definitely firing away on her other creative weapon giving her readers a pleasurable and delightful read.

When The Walls Fell (Out of Time #2) by Monique Martin- a review

When The Walls Fell (Out of Time #2) by Monique Martin-a review

WHEN THE WALLS FELL” by Monique Martin

“WHEN THE WALLS FELL” is a sequel of Monique Martin’s Out of Time Series.  Bringing about another dangerous assignment for Professor Simon Cross and his assistant, Elizabeth West, as they yet again traveled back in time.

Just a few months after returning home from their first accidental time-travel, and the discovery of their new formed relationship, The Council for Temporal Studies needed Simon and Elizabeth to travel back to the Easter Week of 1906 in order to save a present time-traveler Council member, Charles Graham…and possibly the entire council members in the process. Someone is viciously out for revenge and has planned to alter history with the murder of Victor Graham. Simon and Elizabeth must find out the potential assassins and their motives to prevent the murder of Victor and return home before the disastrous earthquake that hit San Francisco in April 9th, 1906.

Simon’s distrust of The Council had him refusing the assignment in the first place. For Elizabeth though, needing to protect Simon’s future and because she loves the bloody Brit, readily accepted and time traveled alone with only The Councils prepared instructions. Simon wasn’t too far behind as he decided to follow through with the task. Knowing Elizabeth’s luck with bad situations, he wasn’t about let her go alone no matter what. This time he was going in well prepared with money, and title for quicker acceptance in its society…and the fastest way to finding Elizabeth and Victor Graham.

The hour is coming to a close and both Simon and Elizabeth are finding it harder to solving the mystery.

Monique Martin mixes a special blend of mystery and suspense, with a touch of paranormal and a good dash of witticism. In addition there is a sweeter romance as Simon and Elizabeth tackle one of the most important aspects in their new relationship. We are also introduced to other fun characters in this story, one of whom was the founding father of the travel watch, of which, The Council members are currently using to time-travel. Though it looks like they will not be having a story of their own, but will have been fun to see them again in future books.

NOTE:  At the time of this posting WHEN THE WALLS FELL is only .99cents from Amazon Kindle

ONE SHORT HARVEST by Nell Harding-a new release review

One Short Harvest by Nell Harding-a new release review

One Short Harvest by Nell Harding

ONE SHORT HARVEST is the second installment (May 2012 release) of Harding World of Romance, a series of short romantic stories from around the world. This exciting tale takes us to Burgundy, France.

Alexandre “Alex” Larousse is an arrogant, over confident, controlling Frenchman who has inherited the family business of winemaking. On his first season of taking over the winery, he offered Nadia a proposition to pose as his fiancée for the duration of two weeks during the vendanges or the grape harvest season; at the same time managing to avoid any unwanted match-making from his meddling enthusiastic family.

Nadia Fischer has found joy and freedom in her mini travel adventures. She is an intelligent, stubborn, and a fiercely loyal Canadian woman. She had arrived in France believing to work for Alex as grape-picker for the harvest. Little did she know that she will also be playing an important role in his private life.

In this short funny adventure, Nadia, who is always up for new experiences, thought that if she immersed herself with her new French associates, she will expand her knowledge of the French language. In addition to being in Burgundy and working for the Larousse, are the added benefits of learning its history, inspiring generations of family traditions…and the abundance of wine and delicious French cuisine (though she has an aversion to frog legs). When Alex offered her to stand as his fiancée in return for a fortnight stay in his family’s chateau and a vendanges experience, she agreed reluctantly. Recovering from a previous relationship that ended in disaster, Nadia is not looking for something serious that will tie her town. Though what will she do when her heart starts to pull her to Alex’s direction?

Alex is harboring a tiny secret of his own. Torn between freedom and duty, it has already cost him one beautiful lady. For that reason he now avoids any serious relationships preferring short-term-no-strings-attached to make their parting easier. So when his attraction for Nadia started to grow he felt threatened and he started to become distant.

Will Alex have a change of heart before the vendange season is over? Will Nadia have what it takes to transform a heart-harden Frenchman who has an out dated view of women and relationships? Will a ONE SHORT HARVEST be enough time to learn about compromising when dealing with matters of the heart?

I enjoyed reading this story. I also love that the author included how the French conducted their family dinners. Because in this reality, to have a true family dinner, comes only occasionally (for some of us at least). I also appreciate the hard work that’s been put into a traditional winery business. Make you think: ‘Right, so that explains it…’ Meaning the extravagant prices for some selected wines. So if you are finding yourself wanting a quick read. Pour yourself a red or white bubbly (juice if you prefer non-alcoholic) and lose yourself in this short adventure. The characters will keep you laughing and tenderly pulls your heart when you least expect it.

A rising contemporary author, Nell Harding, has already written her first book, FIRE AND ICE, in the Harding World of Romance series. She mainly writes light romantic stories that set in different places around the world. For the moment though her writing is slightly slowed down “now as another dream comes together in the form of a growing baby…”
Nell Harding: “My romance series, “Harding’s World of Romance”, hopes to bring readers to various romantic destinations to share some of my passion for new places and for happy endings.”
