ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date June 28, 2021

We were destined.
How could we not be?
Our dads were famous rock stars and best friends.
As a kid, I practically lived at his house.
We did everything together.

My first kiss at only nine.
I knew I’d marry him one day.
Took my virginity on prom night.

Wrote songs about me.
Was sweet and kind, loving and caring.
The sun rose and set on him.
I trusted him with my heart.
And he loved me.

With my dad’s help, my love became a talented bass player.
He was destined to find fame.
I wanted that for him.
And then it happened.

The opportunity to tour with one of the hottest rock stars around.
Thirteen weeks wasn’t long to be apart.
Not in the grand scheme of things.
Except I had no idea who I was without him.
He got his wish—and I lost myself.
Maybe we weren’t so destined after all.

Destined contains adult content.

REVIEW:DESTINED is the fourth and final? Instalment in AM Madden’s contemporary, adult LAIR erotic, romance series- a spin off from the author’s BACK-UP series. This is Shane Lair, and Alivia Taylor’s story line. Shane is the son of Jackson and Leila Lair , and Alivia is the daughter of Camilla and Trey Taylor.

NOTE: DESTINED is a young adult to new adult, next generation story line with adult situations and the requisite teenaged, anxiety and conflicts.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Alivia and Shane) with a guest chapter from both Trey and Jack, covering several years in the life, DESTINED follows the life-long friendship between Shane Lair and Alivia Taylor. At the age of five, Shane Lair fell in love with Alivia Taylor the moment he set eyes on his future wife. High school sweethearts, Alivia and Shane had the world ahead of them, enrolling in NYU together until Shane is offered a chance of a lifetime but if he accepted, would leave behind the woman he loved. The stress of high school and prom, friendships and family, mean girls and gossip, all threatened our story line couple but none more so than a lack of communication and issues of trust as each is about to walk (or run) in the opposite direction. As Shane ventured forth on a path towards his future, Alivia’s abrupt change of plans would pull our heroine half way across the world, as the love of her life, struggled with his new found fame, and direction in life.

The relationship between Alivia and Shane is a life-long friendship that began when their parents created the rock back Devil’s Lair. We are up close and personal as Alivia and Shane’s love blossomed; as the mean-girls took aim at our story line heroine; and as Shane’s attempts to protect the woman he loves , threatening their future when social media PR quickly spirals out of control. Alivia and Shane’s love for one another never waivers in the face of vitriolic rumors, and months of separation but their lack of communication threatens their love, going forward. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate, without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

There is a large ensemble cast of secondary and supporting characters including Jackson and Leila Lair, Camilla and Trey Taylor; Alivia’s best friend Kim, and Shane’s best friend Chase, as well as the requisite mean girls, fans, and rock and roll wannabes.

DESTINED is a story of family, friendships, relationships and love. A story of love, laughter, longing and heart break. The premise is emotional and spirited; the characters are idealistic and young; the romance is fated, spicy and intense. DESTINED is a spirited and animated conclusion to the LAIR family of series.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date June 22, 2021

Ry Archer and Bowe Keller are as different as night and day. But that doesn’t stop the childhood frenemies from reconnecting whenever one of them needs some help tackling any of life’s major puzzles, like figuring out why getting what you always thought you wanted isn’t living up to all the hype. They might constantly rub each other the wrong way (except for the times when they rub each other the really-really right way), but there is no denying they’ve always made one hell of a great team. They manage to balance each other out… when they aren’t driving each other crazy.

For Ry, he thought he had the perfect girl, the one who was going to run headfirst into a methodically planned future. He was going to marry young and have the same kind of legendary, life-long romance his parents did… or so he believed. His girl was going to stand by his side as he chased his dream of being a professional football player all the way to the NFL.

He was wrong.

Now, Ry’s gotta figure out the difference between a bruised heart and a broken one, and the only person who can teach him the difference is Bowe.

Bowe always felt like she had to run before she learned to walk to keep up with her father’s musical legacy. He’s her hero, and she wants nothing more than to make him proud. Bowe’s about to figure out that maybe she wasn’t meant to be in a rock and roll band, and that it is entirely possible she let her father’s success cloud her idea of what making music should be. Bowe needs to find her own path to fame, and there’s a good chance she wouldn’t be brave enough or bold enough to start over if Ry Archer hadn’t pushed his way back into her life when she least expected it.

Some days they’re enemies. Other days they’re lovers. For a while, they were strangers. But now, it feels more like they might’ve always been soulmates.
Eventually, Ry and Bowe realize that letting go of an old dream and creating a new one is much easier to do with the right person by your side.

REVIEW:Fortunate Son by Jay Crownover launches the next generation of the Marked Men series with none other than Bowe Keller.

Bowe Keller and Ry Archer have known each other their entire lives. As different as oil and water, they always clash when they are around each other. Even though the two have always been competitive, they also have seen each other through all the firsts of life. Ry helps Bowe with her band and Bowe gives Ry advice on life. Neither realize how much the other means until they see each other in a new light.

This new adult romance is a bridge between a few different sub-genres, new adult romance, enemies to lovers and a dash of second chance romance. Overall, the plot of the book is easy to keep up with, and the characters are fun and interesting to read. My only comment would be how much time is given explaining how each character is related to a previous series. No complaint to this, as I can see why it would be needed, however, as a follower of the reader, it was a little repetitive. I can’t wait to see where the series goes now, this was a good way to kick off the next gen series.

I’m not one to normally share lines of a book, as I think it’s a kind of spoiler, but this one is a new all-time favorite for me.

“I like you a little bit more each time you prove to me just how flawed you are.”

Get you a partner that thinks this and life is complete!

REVIEW:Mika Lane must have a plethora of imagination and more time on her hands that she knows what to do with. *Giggle* Her Dirty Jock is the twelfth, yes that’s right, the twelfth book in the Men at Work series, Lane’s awesome reverse harem romance series.

Franki is a college tutor, her current clients; three walking, talking sexy athlete gods, Garrett, Atlas and Zane. Franki’s current challenge, get the guys to understand and then pass their statistics course. As her sessions with the guys progress, they grow closer and closer, soon the guys are more interested in Franki than passing their course. As always, drama rises and the four deal with the crazy that comes with it.

What a steamy read, this must be one of my top three favorites in the Men at Work series. Franki is so funny, and I am all about the giggling in a book. You get friendship, you get drama, you get sass. Mika always has a way with her steamy short novels that I will always find my way back to.

Her Dirty Rockers
Men at Work #1
Release Date July 14, 2020

Amazon.com / Amazon.ca / Amazon.uk / Amazon.au /

I LOVE when authors share their wonderfulness on Kindle Unlimited! Her Dirty Rockers kicks off the Men at Work series, a reverse harem, enemies to romance.

In high school, all those years ago, Coral was still sporting her baby fat, and thus wasn’t what you would call a popular girl. Just like all those cheesy 90’s movies, there is always a popular group of guys that think it’s cool to bully, well these ones made poor Coral’s life a living hell. But like a phoenix rising from the ashes, years later, the baby fat has turned into killer curves and Coral is a beautiful baddie, with her dream job. That dream job that now has their biggest client ever.

Dirty Bandit, the current number one rock band. It’s members? None other than the three horsemen of her high school life.

Ennis, Stone and Hugh.

Dirty Bandit’s label has hired Coral’s firm to clean up the band’s image, and now Coral has to face the bitterness of her past with the three people she would rather run over with her car. But what happens when she must tour with the boys? Can she keep her sharp edges or will getting to know the guys turn her in their favor?

What a fun read! So sexy and sassy. I like that for a shorter read each character had a nice little backstory to lead with. Coral is a queen and I am living for it. I can’t wait to see what the next book holds.

Her Dirty Teachers
Men at Work #2
August 17, 2020

Amazon.com / Amazon.ca / Amazon.uk / Amazon.au /

I think my college education was lacking compared to Senna! Book two in the Men at Work series; Her Dirty Teachers is a triple threat taboo, a reverse harem, age gap, student teacher relationship. How exciting!

While this was a quicker read than I would have preferred, it was still filled with hot sexy fun and giggle moments. Senna is a university student, who like many know how expensive it can be to get a higher education. So, she does what makes the money; dancing. The exotic kind.
Enter in one of the hottest men Senna has ever seen, she gives him a dance, only to come and find out that he is none other than one of her Professors at school. Shocked, and more scared than she cares to admit, Senna waits to see if Benno will turn her in.

Does he?

Not in the way he should. Soon not only can Benno not keep his distance from Senna, but neither can his friends and fellow Professors, Jamie and Chase. All in all, the plot is O.K, some drama occurs, and the guys defend Senna and help her continue with school. It was a worthwhile read and I recommend it to those who like the genre. I am curious what comes next.

FRANCES (FRANKI) CRAWFORD“That’s not going to work for me.”
The head of the campus tutoring center gave me a look that said, in no uncertain terms, that he couldn’t give a shit about what did or did not work for me.
And that’s when I knew I had a problem.
I looked at the slip of paper he’d given me, my first assignment as a tutor, and found the guy I’d be helping drag his ass through statistics class was none other than State football star Garrett Stevens, someone I’d not known until last week.
If you wanted to be technical, I still didn’t really know him.
Although I’d slept with him.
Yup, after having a rough couple days that included premenstrual horniness, needing rebound sex to forget the douchebag I’d dated over the summer, and feeling generally pissed off at the world, I indulged in one of those sleazy rite of passage one-night stands that college is famous for.
That’s all it was. Seriously.
“Um, Max if you could match me up with another student, I’d really appreciate it,” I said, doing my best to sound breezy and casual while boob sweat collected in my bra.
He studied me, trying to read between the lines. Finally, he sighed. “Franki, you signed up to work here two weeks into the semester. That’s about three weeks later than everybody else. You don’t get your pick of students to work with. Sorry.”
He clicked his computer keyboard one more time and looked at me with a forced smile that indicated it was time for me to get the hell out of his office.
I was getting desperate, and because of that, wasn’t above begging. Or flattering.
“I know you’re super busy, Max, and I hate to keep you from your work, especially at the beginning of a semester. But this is kind of important.”
That should drag some empathy out of his tired, overworked ass.
Who knew a campus tutoring center would be such a hubbub of activity? I supposed if you used tutoring services, you’d know that well. But since I was a pretty good student who managed to muddle my way through even the worst of the classes that made up my freshman year, and who’d never needed a tutor, it was all new to me.
Also new to me this year was taking on a job to pay for school. Mom and Dad were flat out of money, leaving me to scramble for student loans and part-time work. Tutoring was one of the best-paying jobs on campus, and the director let me know that by working with student athletes, I’d actually get paid a little extra.
I couldn’t say no to that. Next semester’s tuition bill was coming like a freight train, and the financial assistance my parents had offered my older brother and sister for their schooling, dried up just in time for me to hit my freshman year. Now that I’d entered my sophomore year, their situation wasn’t getting any better. I was pretty much on my own.
Lucky me.
Yeah, my fortunate siblings had gotten fully-paid rides to private universities. Me, not so much. By the time my turn came, Dad was ready to retire. My parents had spent almost their last cent on my brother and sister, so it was decided I would attend State, which was loads cheaper.
I wasn’t bitter. Really.
Even when faced with having to tutor a burly football player who I just happened to have gotten down and dirty with not one week earlier.
I’d thought I was so smart. Figured I’d never see him again. After all, State was one of those universities bigger than some towns. You could get lost, stay anonymous, keep your head down, and hardly ever see the same person twice.
How was it then that I was now faced with having to tutor the one guy on campus I’d fucked in a moment of sexy weakness?
Thinking I was clever, I’d left my panties behind, hanging on his bedroom doorknob. Show him how the cool girls do it. Give him something to think about because he was never going to see my ass again. I lied about my major, which dorm I lived in, where I came from, you name it. I hadn’t even given him my real name, instead pretending to be a Susan. Seemed sufficiently bland enough to be forgettable.
I hadn’t lied about the orgasms, though. They were quite something. And god knew I needed them.
Not that he asked for it, but I wouldn’t have given him my contact info, anyway. Like he would have ever called me. Guys like him were famous for ghosting. So I beat him to the punch. Used him before he could use me, and all that.
And at the time, I’d felt pretty good about it.
Now, not so much.
Max sighed when he looked up from his computer monitor to see I was still sitting there. “Franki, you are right. I am busy,” he said impatiently.
“Max, I… I don’t think I can work with Garrett Stevens.”
He frowned. “Why? Is he an ex or something?”
Should I tell Max I’d fucked the guy and really didn’t want to have to make nice with him and that, oh by the way, I couldn’t stand jocks, anyway? That they were creeps with little or no interest in academics, who also had jumped my brother in high school and pummeled the shit out of him?
I could hold a grudge. I wasn’t proud of it.
“No. He’s not an ex,” I said, keeping my drama to myself.
Satisfaction settled on his face. “Great. Then you will be tutoring three students on the subject of statistics.” He wrinkled his nose. “God, I always hated stats. Too bad I didn’t have someone like you to help me out back in the day. I’m sure I would have been motivated to study my ass off.”
Looking me up and down, he gave me a giant, smarmy grin and waited for me to thank him for his cheesy compliment.
I stood to leave, holding my backpack in front of me to limit his hungry gaze. “I guess some people just aren’t smart enough for stats.”
Ooh. Did I really just say that?
His smile faded. “Well, it’s not that—”
But I didn’t hear the rest of what he had to say.
I’d gotten the work I needed to make it through the semester and pay for at least part of the next. I was out of there.
I’d tutor Garrett Stevens, even if all I could think about the whole time was how talented his tongue was…
“Whattup, Frank?” my BFF Daniel said, answering my call before the first ring had even finished.
I took a seat on the front steps of the student union, Daniel’s voice nearly drowned out by the buzz of giggly undergrads, beleaguered professors, creaky university shuttle buses, and rumbling food trucks.
“Hey. I got a job tutoring stats,” I told him.
“Wow, look at the big brain on my girl,” he screeched.
God, I missed him. We’d had a fun summer, and I’d almost cried when I left for school and he stayed behind.
Said college just wasn’t his thing. Driving for Uber was about as far as his ambition went.
“Big brain, you’re so funny. But get this. My first student is that guy I had the one-nighter with last week. Doesn’t it just figure?”
A couple heads snapped in my direction at the mention of ‘one-nighter.’
“That’s what happens when you’re a ho,” Daniel said gleefully. “I hope he at least had a good-sized dick, honey.”
In the background, I heard a turn signal click-click-click and realized he was driving.
“Dan, you don’t have anyone in the car with you, do you? You know, a passenger who might be listening to you talking about big dicks.”
Discretion was not one of his strengths.
He cackled. “I most certainly do, Frances Mary Crawford. Just so happens I have a couple ladies I’m taking to their card game at the senior center. Everything good back there, girls?” he called.
I didn’t hear them respond.
“Okay, Dan, I’m gonna run. But you might try to keep your conversations rated G, at least when you have passengers.”
“Oh, honey, everyone likes the booty. Don’t be ashamed. You did nothing wrong.”
Easy for him to say. He was a walking one-night stand.
Besides, if I had nothing to be embarrassed about, why was I dreading facing Garrett Stevens?

Writing has been a passion of mine since, well, forever (my first book was “The Day I Ate the Milkyway,” a true fourth-grade masterpiece). These days, steamy romance, both dark and funny, gives purpose to my days and nights as I create worlds and characters who defy the imagination. I live in magical Northern California with my own handsome alpha dude, sometimes known as Mr. Mika Lane, and an evil cat named Bill. These two males also defy my imagination from time to time.

Ruthless Heart (The Ruthless Devils 1) by Eve L Mitchell-a review

Amazon.com / Amazon.ca / B&N / KOBO / Chapters Indigo /

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date June 11, 2021

She is his enemy. He is her nightmare.

Three football stars who have it all: looks, money, talent and the world at their feet. No one messes with the Devils. You’re either with them or against them…and you’d have to be stupid to be against them.

Ava isn’t stupid, but one night of being in the wrong place at the right time is coming back to haunt her. One of the Santo boys—Jett—is out for blood. Specifically, her blood. Thankfully, he doesn’t know who she is, and Ava plans to keep it that way.

Sophomore year threatens to stop Jett’s progression to the championships and, more importantly, his plan to play in the NFL. All because of some mystery blonde. But he has a plan: find the threat and eliminate the threat. Jett is ruthless in his pursuit to find the girl who threatens his career.

They say there’s a thin line between love and hate, and neither is prepared for the consequences when they cross that line.

Three guys, three girls, one game. Are you ready to meet the Devils?

••••••

REVIEW: RUTHLESS HEART is the first instalment in Eve L Mitchell’s contemporary, new adult RUTHLESS DEVILS college, romance series focusing on brothers Jett and Gray Santos, and their cousin Ash. This is college sophomores, nineteen year old Ava Bryant, and football star Jett Santos’ story line.

WARNING: Due to the nature of the story line premise there may be triggers for more sensitive readers.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Jett and Ava) RUTHLESS HEART follows the enemies to lovers relationship between college sophomores, nineteen year old Ava Bryant, and football player Jett Santos. A random drug test came back positive, and star college football player Jett Stantos was suspended for two weeks, putting his future professional career at risk. Struggling to understand what happened or why, Jett goes in search of the blonde girl he found passed out in his bed earlier that week. Jett doesn’t do drugs, and in this, our hero, along with his brother Gray, and their cousin Ash, go in search of a stranger he’s about to destroy. Enter college sophomore Ava Bryant. What ensues is the acrimonious and tempestuous relationship between Ava and Jett, and the fall-out as our heroine becomes the target of harassment, bullying, and threats in the face of Jett’s need to destroy her life.

Ava Bryant had no idea what happened the night of the party but waking up in Jett Santo’s bed felt all sorts of wrong especially when she had no memory of what happened the night before. Days would pass where rumors unfolded about Jett’s desperate search for the woman whose life he was about to destroy, and with it, Ava began to question what happened and why.

The relationship between Ava and Jett is caustic and bitter but initially Jett has no idea who was the woman he awoke to in bed. From the outset, Ava and Jett’s introduction is acerbic and bitter, yet Jett has no idea that Ava is the woman whose life he is about to make a living h*ll. From harassment to bullying, physical and emotional abuse, Jett among others, begin to tear down our heroine, in the hopes of destroying and damaging her life. The $ex scenes are dramatic and intense. I want to add, although the author claims there is no non-con (non-consensual ) sex, in my opinion, someone who is drunk and drugged, is unable to give true consent, so there is a grey line as it pertains to the non-consensual element.

In addition, the college teachers and professors begin a campaign against our story line heroine. Ava is presumed guilty because the Santos school legacy takes president over our heroine’s innocence or guilt.

We are introduced to Jett’s brother Gray, and their cousin Ash-all Cardinal Saints College football stars, as well as Jett’s parents; Quinn, close family friend who ensures Ava’s life continues to spiral out of control; Dante Spence, quarterback for the opposing team; and several members of the Cardinal Saints Football team including Derrick, Jamie and Coach Bowers, as well as Ava’s friend Mia, and Wade. Quinn’s story line is next.

RUTHLESS HEARTS is an emotional and melodramatic story of betrayal and revenge, power and control, family and acceptance. The premise is thought-provoking, raw and haunting; the characters are feisty and stubborn; the romance is unconventional and twisted, tragic and raw.

Again, a warning about potential triggers, as the heroine’s treatment is abusive from everyone concerned.

Just a note, because the author is from Scotland, there are few terms that may not be familiar to North American readers.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date June 10, 2021

Jackson Rivers.

My not so secret crush.

He’s popular. Gorgeous. Talented.

Also my biggest weakness.

I’ve stood by him for years. Been a friend every time he needed one, but he doesn’t see me. Not like I want him to.

Move on, my friends said. Find someone new. Someone who sees your worth. Someone who gets you. I know they’re right. I’m only a friend to him. He’s never going to see me like I see him. So I take their advice, and try to move on.

But Jackson is always right there. In my face. Running to my rescue. And when I meet someone else, Jackson isn’t having it. For some reason, he’s suddenly determined to stay in my life. Right by my side.

Now he says he wants me, but does he want an actual relationship? Or is that he can’t stand the thought of losing me to another guy?

It’s time to find out what Jackson truly wants…and I’m going to make him work for it.

For me.

REVIEW:THE SOPHOMORE is the second instalment in Monica Murphy’s contemporary, new adult COLLEGE YEARS romance series -a spin off from the author’s THE CALLAHANS and ONE WEEK GIRLFRIEND series. This is nineteen year old, college sophomore and singer Jackson Rivers, and eighteen year old college student Ellie Jessup’s story line. You do not have to have read The Callahans to follow but I recommend reading the series for back story and cohesion as The College Years focuses on the secondary characters from the previous series.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Ellie and Jackson) THE SOPHOMORE follows the friends to lovers relationship between nineteen year old, college sophomore and singer Jackson Rivers, and eighteen year old college student Ellie Jessup. Ellie has been in love with Jackson Rivers for as long as she can remember but Jackson’s attitude runs hot and cold as it pertains to our story line heroine. A summer touring to promote his music culminates in a concert where Jackson screws up royally with regards to our story line heroine, a screw up for which he is about to pay dearly. Returning for his second year in college, Jackson reconsiders his future as both a member of the college football team, and his music but struggles with his relationship with Ellie Jessup. As Jackson tries to keep his distance, our hero sees green whenever anyone else vies for our heroine’s affection but a final ultimatum by Ellie forces Jackson to look long and hard at what he wants, and Jackson wants Ellie more than he could have ever imagined. What ensues is the building romance and relationship between Jackson and Ellie, and the potential fall-out as Jackson doesn’t believe he is worthy of love, or his own happily ever after.

For several years Ellie and Jackson have danced around one another but Jackson has always held himself back, giving mixed signals, pushing and pulling at the heart of our story line heroine. Jackson’s summer on tour showed a different side to life, the potential for fame and women, and Jackson took full advantage of what was offered. Ellie Jessup knew that Jackson owned every bit of her heart but Jackson’s attitude often portrayed an indifference regarding our story line heroine.

The relationship between Jackson and Ellie is a friends to lovers that struggles in the face of a lack of communication, fear of rejection, and thoughts of failure. Jackson is unable to commit to our heroine believing he is unworthy , and Ellie battles between head and heart knowing there will come a time when she will have to say good bye-forever. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top sexually graphic language and text.

Most of the previous story line couples and characters play secondary and supporting characters. We are introduced to Ellie’s classmate Carson, a potential love interest for our story line heroine, as well as a cameo from Drew and Fable Callahan (One Week Girlfriend et al)

THE SOPHOMORE is a story friends, family, and relationships; of conflict and confusion; of acceptance and love. The premise is impassioned and compelling; the romance is tender; the characters are spirited and moving.

Heirly Ever After by Magan Vernon – a Review

Heirly Ever After by Magan Vernon – a Review

Amazon / B&N / Kobo / Google Play / Apple

Description:
Sometimes, you’ve got to take a fake date to your sister’s royal wedding…

After pumping the breaks on my college degree and being dumped at the last minute, I’m looking forward to skipping off to a whole new country for the week-long event. But I’ll need the perfect distraction to keep both my sister and mother from finding out about my epic disaster life. So when I meet a charming Scottish stunner on the train, whose chivalry and humor have me swooning, a quick coin toss seals the deal on my hot date.

It’s the perfect plan, until he reveals he is Lord Jacob MacWebley, odd duckling and long-lost cousin of the family my sister is about to marry into. Thanks for the full disclosure. Oh, and apparently no one wants him there because he might have a claim to the inheritance. Wedding week is going to suck, but it’s too late for other options—luckily, I’m a pro at dealing with a little family drama.

But between a gentle countryside horse ride that turns into a chase, and the baking class that ends in a food fight we forget to keep up the lies and start blurring the lines instead… against any available surface. Jacob brings me out of my shell and makes me want to break all etiquette rules, but he’s keeping secrets and if I’m not careful, I might end up royally screwed…

Review:

Natalie and Gavin are getting married!  While the beloved protagonists from Heired Lines may no longer be the main characters, their big event is the setting for the equally lovely sequel, Heirly Ever After.  Author Magan Vernon returns to jolly old England with a fortuitous meet cute between Jacob and Madison.  Would their serendipitous meeting develop into romance or leave a trail of broken hearts?

Madison is Natalie’s out-of-luck younger sister who finds herself with a wealth of time (dropping out of college offers such luxuries) traveling to England for the impending nuptials.  Here is where she encounters Jacob, a long-lost-wished-you-didn’t-actually-come-to-the-wedding family member of Madison’s future brother-in-law.  Seems family feuds hold long memories *cough* grudges, and Jacob is trying to ingratiate himself with the family by arriving with Madison.  Black sheep of the world, unite.  Money matters are notoriously nasty in any family, the Webley name is no exception, but transparency is not in Jacob’s wheelhouse because, well…book, drama.  Deflect and divert, and you can prolong just about anything! ?

The anticipation of waiting for a relative to recognize Jacob had me tied up in knots, but the insensitivity to involve Madison in his scheme, however justified he thought his claim, was selfish. Having said that, Jacob is also bearing the weight of this reparations matter.  Yes, the MacWebleys were ostracized, and possibly owed a fair share, but surely Jacob’s elders could have come to some amicable, albeit legal, conclusion by now.  Tension abounds and confronting the issue would be messy, but now he has to consider Madison, whose joyful reunion (though don’t forget she’s got skeletons of her own to reveal), he’s now hijacked.  Given his tactics, how can Madison not to be suspicious of Jacob’s motives?

An auspicious beginning too soon mired in doubt. Especially after reading of their natural, developing attraction.  But drama is delicious when done right; when nuanced, not heavy-handed.  Heirly Ever After accomplishes this.  What might have begun as a quest to “restore” his family legacy may soon take a backseat to initiative and personal investment.  Madison and Jacob must face their pasts to make worthwhile futures.  And if along the way their goals became unified, love is the priceless reward.  The Heired Book series continues to satisfy.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date May 4, 2021

Bailey is as normal as could be, with a genius IQ and a photographic memory. But still, normal for her. Then, things happen—a guy breaks into her house in the middle of the night to take her hostage. She finds out her father is actually billionaire tech genius Peter Francis, the same guy she’s idolized all her life. She learns all this when she meets dark, mysterious, and electrifying Kashton Colello. He’s an associate of her father’s, and he gives Bailey two choices—go with him and meet her father or survive on her own because those kidnappers are going to try again. It’s a no-brainer.

After this, three things become clear for Bailey:

1. She’s living at her father’s sprawling estate, complete with bodyguards and the best security that money can buy.

2. She’s no longer an only child. She has three siblings and has no idea what to do with them and vice versa.

3. She is being guarded by Kash himself. Personally guarded. And there is a lot of guarding going on there and some of it is going to drive her crazy.

A complete outsider in a world of wealth and decadence, Bailey has to find her way within a family that has more secrets than she could have imagined. One of these secrets could be deadly

REVIEW:THE INSIDERS is the first instalment in Tijan’s contemporary, adult THE INSIDERS romantic suspense series focusing on twenty-two year old computer hacker Bailey Hayes, and fixer Kashton ‘Kash’ Colello.

Told from first person perspective (Bailey) THE INSIDERS follows in the aftermath of an attempted abduction of our story line heroine. Bailey Hayes has a genius IQ, and will come to learn she is the illegitimate daughter of billionaire Peter Francis, and as such, has a target on her back but to Bailey’s surprise, she has one of two options, and the lesser and safer of two evils is to move in with the Francis family where she will become the object of ridicule, the subject of gossip, and the lover of the Francis empire ‘fixer’ Kashton Colello. All is not well with the Francis family dynamics, and our heroine will be caught in a fire-storm of power and control, jealousy and revenge, hatred, betrayal, acceptance and love. What ensues is the building relationship and love between Kash and Bailey, and the fall-out as the enemy is closer than anyone could have ever imagined.

Kashton Colello has some secrets of his own but his biggest secret is about to be exposed. Raised by the Francis family in the face of losing everyone he loved, Kash has more power and control over the day to day lives of the Francis family but he is about to lose the upper hand as the enemy comes from within.

The relationship between Kash and Bailey begins as an assignment, a duty that Kash has appointed himself as sole authority and control. Bailey is immediately attracted to her savior and guardian but Kash battles between head and heart knowing his past is determined to take down and destroy everyone he loves.

There is a large ensemble cast of colorful, energetic and broken secondary and supporting characters. We are introduced to Bailey’s mother Chrissy, and her half-siblings: Matt, Seraphina and Cyclone; her father Peter Francis, and his wife Quinn, as well as an assortment of Matt’s friends, security personnel, and Kash’s ex Victoria. The requisite evil has many faces.

THE INSIDERS is a story of secrets and lies, power and control, family, relationships, murder and money. The character driven premise is intriguing, engaging, heart breaking and dramatic; the romance is seductive and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text; the characters are damaged, spirited yet powerful and strong. THE INSIDERS ends on a cliff hanger-you have been warned.

We were heading out of Chicago, and maybe another half hour or so from the small town where my mom and I lived.
Wait. Second thought—where we used to live?
What would my mom do now? Could Chrissy Hayes remain in that house after I was just attacked, almost taken hostage? I called my mother by all kinds of names—Chrissy Hayes, Chrissy, or Mom. Or, well, a whole other kind of names too, because to say she’s a character is putting it mildly. And we have an interesting relationship to say the least.
I might be deflecting here.
Numb. I was numb. I should be pissing my pants, but instead I’m ruminating over how I refer to my mother.
Could I stay in that house after what just happened?
I’d been planning to spend time with Chrissy, helping with the house and working at the local computer store to make some extra money before I left for school. But now . . . fuck if I knew.
Myriad curses went through my mind as I realized Chrissy would have to move.
Shivers pierced me as I went over what had happened tonight, but then we were pulling into a driveway, next to a booth. A large gate barricaded us from moving forward.
Official police business, my tech ass.
Then again, nothing seemed official. I was told that I was being taken to my mother, but I left with two detectives. Bright and Wilson. They introduced themselves, then said she couldn’t see me in the hospital. They didn’t explain why, but I was to go with them to see her.
I went.
I was in the backseat of their unmarked car a few minutes later.
Bright’s window rolled down. She flashed her badge. “We’re expected.”
The attendant nodded, hitting a button. The gate opened, showing a campus of buildings behind it. Some made of dark red brick. Some seemingly made of reflective windows, top to bottom. Some painted totally black. A large parking lot sat in the middle of the buildings. “Phoenix Tech” was on a sign in front of the first building, but we went past, heading around it and toward a smaller building on the opposite end of the lot.
My tongue was glued to the back of my throat. We were at Phoenix Tech headquarters.
I had yearned to get an internship there every year since fifth grade, and then through college. I kept applying, but they kept denying. Some might say I was being desperate. I prefer determined. It’s a quality that I feel is honorable. Plus, I wasn’t above hoping they’d take pity on me one day. It worked, because while I might not have been good enough to walk their hallways, I was good enough for them to give me charity. They awarded me the majority of my grants for undergrad, so I’d been able to go to college debt free. I’d been expecting that to change for graduate school, but it hadn’t. Or, well, it kind of had.
I was hired as a graduate assistant, starting in the fall, which gave me a stipend, but the rest was covered by another scholarship from Phoenix Tech.
Phoenix Tech was one of the world’s leading companies on cyber security. I was going into information systems, which was close enough. A job here would be a dream.
“My mom is here?” I asked, when Bright parked, and both her and Wilson got out of the vehicle.
Neither answered.
Bright opened my back door and motioned for me, slipping her sunglasses over her eyes. “It’s time for you to find out some answers.”

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date April 27, 2021

One of the first rules they give you when you’re undercover—never fall for the enemy.
I didn’t just fall for the enemy.
I became what I was supposed to hate.
What’s worse: I fell in love with one.
I live a double life, and both sides know it’s only a matter of time before I’m forced to choose.
Rebirth through mafia blood.
Or death at the hands of the very government I swore to protect.
I have one more job before my time’s up.
I just wish it was anything but babysitting a mafia princess who’s half my size but knows how to pack such a brutal punch I worry about my ability to have children.
Tin’s small but terrifying.
And I’m her new bodyguard while we all go on a much-needed vacation.
I just have to stick to the plan.
And remember rule number one.
And stop kissing her.

••••••••

REVIEW: MAFIA KING is a contemporary, new adult, erotic, Mafia, romance story line found in Rachel Van Dyken’s MAFIA ROYALS series, and the latest novella in the multi-authored 1001 Dark Nights series. This is undercover FBI agent Tank DeLange, and seventeen-year old, Mafia Princess Kartini ‘Tiny’ Abandonato’s story line. The MAFIA ROYALS is a spin off from the author’s Eagle Elite series. MAFIA KING can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty but I recommend reading the series in order as Tank’s story builds throughout. Kartini is Sergio Abandonto’s daughter.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Tiny and Tank) MAFIA KING follows FBI agent Tank DeLange as he is tasked with protecting our story line heroine. The Mexican wedding of Junior and Serena finds Tank the assigned security to Tiny Abandonato but Tank is well aware that our heroine has a target on her back, a target placed when another FBI agent was murdered, one year before. Tank will quickly discover that the wedding has been infiltrated by outside sources, and isn’t a about to let Tiny out of his sight. A couple of attempts on her life push Tank to the edge, as he reconsiders his future with the FBI.

The relationship between Tank and Tiny has been building for several instalments but Tank’s original assignment was to get close the to Abandonato family, a family he was more familiar with, than most. Tiny had always had a crush on our story line hero but their age difference was going to be a problem, and Tiny’s struggle with what happened one year before, continued to haunt her every night. The $ex scene is intimate and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

All of the previous couples, and story line characters in the Mafia Royals series play secondary and supporting characters. There is some flirty fun and camaraderie even in the face of danger and death,

MAFIA KING is a fast paced, quick novella length story. The premise is intriguing and engaging; the romance is seductive; the characters are determined, energetic and strong. Here’s hoping the author has something more planned for our story line couple.
