REVIEW: SAVAGED VOWS is the second installment in Jennifer Lyon’s contemporary, new adult SAVAGED ILLUSIONS erotic, rock romance trilogy focusing on twenty four year old lead singer for the rock band Savaged Illusions Justice Cade, and twenty year old college student/publicist Liza ‘Beth’ Glasner. For fans of Jennifer’s THE PLUS ONE CHRONICLES there is a slight cross-over with the appearance of Sloane Michaels and Drake Vaughn. SAVAGED VOWS should not be read as a stand alone as it picks up immediately upon the events and cliff hanger of book one-SAVAGED DREAMS.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Liza and Justice) SAVAGED VOWS continues to focus on the rise to stardom of the rock band Savaged Illusions, and Justice’s struggle to keep his personal and professional life separate. As the band continues on their road to success Liza’s past forges ahead to destroy any semblance of peace for our leading couple. Gene Hayes is determined to take down and shatter Liza’s fragile hold on both her relationship and her emotional sanity, and in doing so sabotages the band and the couple one betrayal, secret and lie at a time. What ensues is the growing bond between Justice and Liza, and the fall out when Justice picks stardom over the woman he loves.

SAVAGED VOWS is an emotional story line of betrayal, tragedy and profound vengeance. Gene Hayes has set out to sabotage and shatter any chance at happiness and success for Liza and Savaged Illusions, and in doing sets into motion a series of events that will end in tragedy, destroying a family, a friendship and any chance at a happily ever after.

All of the previous story line characters, including the members of the band, play secondary and supporting roles. Liza’s friends Emily and Nikki tag along for moral support; and Justice’s dad Noah reprises his role as the long-suffering former soldier whose PTSD is destroying what’s left of the relationship with his son.

SAVAGED VOWS is a story of vengeance, betrayal, secrets and lies. As Justice and Liza’s personal life plays out before the media, their tenuous hold on sanity crumbles like a house of cards. Liza will come face to face with her past, the sins of her father, and the potentially life-altering reality that no one can be trusted including the man who once held her heart. The premise is heartbreaking and startling; the romance is intimate, sensual and intense; the characters are broken, passionate and lost. Jennifer Lyon will seduce your mind and captivate your imagination. SAVAGED VOWS ends on a cliff hanger-you have been warned.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date June 19, 2017

As the Dating Guy on L.A.‘s top morning show, I give the single guy’s perspective on dating, love, and sex—and I give great advice. Everyone’s hooking up…well, except for me. Sure, I can get any woman I want, but I’ve got a “no relationship” clause in my contract and the only woman I want has “relationship” written all over her. Probably stamped on her ass, too. And wouldn’t I like to confirm that.

Unfortunately, she wants nothing to do with me. At all. Something about the next Ice Age might have even come up in her rebuttal. Adorable. Because she’s determined to ignore what one simple kiss proved: she wants me as badly as I want her.

Everything in me is screaming to go after her, but I’ve got a secret that I’m fairly certain will end up with her roasting my nuts over an open fire. So, job on the line? Check. Nuts on the line? Check. Can’t get her out of my head? Nail…meet coffin. But what a way to go…

••••••••••••

REVIEW: TALK BRITISH TO ME is the first installment in Robin Bielman’s contemporary, new adult WHEREVER YOU GO romance series This is radio host twenty three year old Mateo ‘Bennett’ Gallagher, and twenty two year old barista/PA Teague Watters’ story line.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Teague and Mateo) TALK BRITISH TO ME follow the forbidden relationship between barista/PA Teague Watters, and radio talk show host Mateo Gallagher. Mateo is the ‘Dating Guy’ and does a weekly radio show talking about his dating experiences but a stipulation in his contract states that he must remain single. Enter Teague Watters-the woman who has caught Mateo’s eye-and a woman who is off limits in more ways than one. What ensues is the building relationship between Teague and Mateo, as Teague battles to keep her job as the new PA to one of L.A.’s most prolific and notorious wedding planners; and Mateo struggles to keep his personal and professional life separate.

As part of the job Mateo is expected to serial date-a new flavor of the week every weekend, but our hero never expected to fall in love- a complication that could affect his job and his on air personality. Not only was Teague not one of Mateo’s weekly dates but our heroine never knew the professional side of the man with whom she was falling in love, and in this Mateo’s secret life begins to take its’ toll on our story line heroine. Teague Watters battles between her head and her heart knowing that to get involved with Mateo Gallagher would mean risking her job and reputation.

There is a large ensemble cast of secondary and supporting characters including
Teague’s extended family, her best friend Harper, Teague’s roommates Elliot and Levi. We are also introduced to several wedding and bridal clients –some of whom are very close to the Gallagher family. There is some definite history between Harper and Levi-history that has yet to be revealed or explored.

The world building focuses on the relationship between Teague and Mateo from friends to friends with benefits, to lovers and so much more; Teague’s struggle with her attraction to a man who has been declared off limits; and Mateo’s battle to keep secret the on-air personality of the Dating Guy. With the introduction of family and friends, there is plenty of opportunity to continue the Wherever You Go series.

TALK BRITISH TO ME is a sweet, sexy, and passionate story about two people with different plans for the future. The premise is entertaining with a little bit of humor, fun, drama and romance. The characters are intelligent, colorful, dynamic and charismatic; the romance is seductive; the $ex scenes are limited without the use of sexually graphic, over the top language and text. TALK BRITISH TO ME is a lighthearted, heartwarming and energetic tale that will captivate your heart with its’ delightful story.

Savaged Illusions

excerpt

“That’s utter bullshit. You don’t hide your feelings with me.”

“Is that right?” She stroked her hand over the head of his cock.

He moved back from her touch, the spray of hot water cascading off his shoulders. Damn near helpless to stop himself, he lowered his hungry gaze over her soft belly to the hair slicked down between her legs. Jesus. Fiery lust rammed into him, taking his cock from hard to one massive throb. He should reach behind him and twist the water to cold, but he couldn’t harness enough brainpower to actually do it.

“You told me you found your voice here in San Diego. Use it. You want something from me?” He wasn’t going to unleash his needs on her until he was sure it was exactly what she wanted too.

Naked anger sparked in her eyes. “I didn’t like the way I felt. It was our date, and those girls were touching you. I wanted to push them off you and kiss you right there in front of everyone.

Maybe I’d shove my camera in their hand and demand they take a picture, then I’d post it and show the whole world that you’re mine. How’s that, Justice? That enough feelings for you?” She closed her eyes. “I know how stupid that sounds. I want you to win and—”

“Don’t you dare backtrack now.” He stalked her to the shower wall. “Those are your feelings. I want them. Every damned one.”

Her stare roamed down his body, then snapped back to his face. A current arced between them.

He didn’t touch her, yet the connection shivered on the moist air. Need screamed between them.

Her nipples hardened, and she raised one hand toward him.

He saw it again, that fucker’s hand wrapped around her arm and Beth kicking the shit out of his shin.

“You want me to kiss you? My hands on you?” He slapped a hand on the fiberglass over her head. “The only reason I’m not kissing you in public and making it clear you belong to me is that you want to keep our personal life out of the limelight.” He didn’t like it either, but he understood.

“We’re not in public now.”

REVIEW:
So what happens to life after “death?” For Ben upon coming back from the “dead” to his family in Kill Devil Hills, it was sheer hell. A jail sentence, probation, and just feeling lost and alone. The boy who had it all to taking a nasty fall from grace. Then we have tough as nails but still the ability to love hard, Juniper. Tough childhood and abusive engagement, you do admire Juniper’s strength and courage.

It was great finally getting to know Ben. We only hear of Ben in the previous books but we never get the chance to see him fleshed out a bit until this book. That being said, there an air of mystery about Ben. I remembered in Pulled Under, Sydney says there was an air of sadness to Ben when she was taking college courses with him. It’s hard to imagine the boy who had it all (popularity, football, smarts and having the hot girlfriend) to have an air of sadness about him. You do find out what shook up Ben that made him join the coast guard and leave Kill Devil Hills. While Kill Devil Hills is a small cozy town and everyone knows each other, it was nice to have a new character in the book. It was an extra bonus that Juniper was very likeable. Despite her terrible past, she wasn’t overly negative that it was annoying and you do take your hat off to her honesty and her ability to persevere. Even better was since she is new to the town, she did not have pre-conceived notions about Ben when she got with him, so that was a good thing for Ben.

The relationship was cute, wholesome and pretty innocent. The relationship was a tad slow to grow but given their pasts with relationships, it was understandable. It did slightly frustrate me when Ben would emotionally pull away when Juniper needed him. Their love scenes was very tame yet still enjoyable to read. I enjoyed that Ben learned to let go of ego in the bedroom and actually be a giver (yes let’s be adults, think about it).

All in all, I really enjoyed this book and series altogether. What I do appreciate is that like Georgina, Ben grew up past ego and thinking about himself to also look at the big picture of things. The ending is very heartwarming and leave you with a smile on your face and an awesome feeling of peace for the family you grow to love. I highly recommend the series. You get play on fantasies, deep lessons learned, honesty we often keep unsaid, racy love scenes, dry enjoyable humor and best of all romance. Read this series you won’t regret it.

excerpt

There was so much pain in his voice, it made me want to squeeze my arms around him tighter and hold on forever. He found his mistakes unforgivable, but they didn’t really matter to me. It wasn’t like I was going to stop being his friend because of them. He was home now, he was trying to make it right. He showed remorse for his actions. That was the thing about Quinton, he never showed remorse. Not once for hurting me. Ben cared so much. It was an amazing quality to find in a man and my heart suddenly ached in longing. Breathing became difficult and a giant lump lodged itself in my throat. I realized how much I cared for this man, how much I wished I’d met him before Quinton, how much I wished he could be the father of my baby.
It was a scary, terrifying thought.
One that left me breathless.
One I only let myself think about for a fleeting second before I shoved it from my mind. Because a wish like that was unrealistic and pointless and something that would never come true.
So why waste even a single moment thinking it?
“We all make stupid mistakes sometimes. That’s part of being human,” I said, in some attempt to comfort him. I wasn’t just talking about his mistakes either. The words I’m not Lilly Davenport were on the tip of my tongue. It suddenly felt like the right moment to tell him the truth about me. Except, he let his grip of my legs go.
My body slipped down his back and my toes hit sand.
“The buzz I had going is wearing off,” he said as he took a step away from me. In the moonlight, I could see his face well enough to see that it had hardened. He’d dropped his guard with me for a moment, but his walls were back up now and seemingly more fortified than ever. “And I’m not really supposed to leave the house after eight. So…”
I understood. He wanted to say goodbye now.
I didn’t though. I wanted more from him. Which was completely wrong of me. I realized how sweet Ben was. And attractive. Suddenly exactly my kind of attractive. And how completely off limits he was.
Wow, life sure had a way of kicking you in the gut when you were down. On top of being pregnant, broke, scared, and alone—I now had feelings for a guy I couldn’t have.
Thank you, irony.
“Goodnight, Ben,” I muttered. I moved swiftly, standing on my tip-toes, leaning in to give him a quick kiss on the cheek before pulling away. I left him, jogging up the beach in the direction of the Davenport’s house. I didn’t look back as I went inside.

He’s twenty-four. She’s eighteen.

His life is exactly the way he’s always wanted it to be…stable.
She’s quite possibly the very definition of unstable.

Noah saved her.
Georgina never wanted to be saved.

Growing up, Noah Clark was passed from one relative to the next until he finally ended up living with his abusive, alcoholic uncle in Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina. Thanks in part to the unwavering love and support of his best friend, Ellie Turner, Noah survived those years, escaped his uncle, and grew into the man he is today. Now he runs his own business and lives a pretty normal, no-nonsense life—one where he maintains a high level of control.

Georgina is Ellie’s younger sister. Four months ago, Noah saved Georgie’s life, but he thought that was where his involvement with his friend’s sister would end. Now Georgie has returned home from the recovery facility her parents sent her away to and Noah, still haunted by the night that connects them, can’t stop himself from continuously trying to protect this girl he barely knows. But is he willing to give up all of the control he’s worked so hard to build in his life and risk everything for her? Even more importantly, would she do the same for him?

••••••••••••

REVIEW: Enjoyable read this book was. Lovely play on fantasy, excellent character development and a few deep lessons along the way. We have Noah in his drunken state with his dumb luck saves Georgina from her suicide attempt. Granted this was a cruddy predicament, but who knew this scene would set the stage for an unexpected romance to blossom?

As the saying goes, “Age ain’t nothing but a number.” In this book we are looking at a 6 year age gap. Despite the age gap, their relationship is so cute and it works. You can’t help but smile and giggle at their obvious chemistry. One thing I really appreciated about the relationship is Noah’s patience with Georgina, taking it slow with her. Knowing he has not only 6 years on Georgina but also more experience, he never let her do things she wasn’t comfortable with. I admit I felt like the romance was a tad rushed but at the same time it wasn’t. Reading more into the book it definitely indicated that it was an attraction that grew over time.

I admit that with some of the negative elements and events of the book it would hurt the atmosphere of the book but it didn’t. Considering Georgina almost killed herself in the beginning of the book, she could’ve sunk into a negative pity party but she didn’t. Mentally, Georgina grew up and matured. She grew out of being an egotistical teenager to seeing the big picture of things in life. Despite Noah’s crappy childhood, he could’ve grown to be a bad mess of an adult but didn’t. He turned out great with having his own business with his best friend Ellie. The fun bonus is watching Noah let his walls down to let people in. It is great to see people with traumatic pasts or events grow from in it positive ways.

You learn lessons about trauma and suicide, enjoy cute yet sexy love scenes, awesome character development along with awesome supporting characters and you guessed it a happily ever after in the modern sense.

ELLIE
For years Ellie Turner’s had a crush on the ruggedly handsome, beast of a man, television actor, Nate West. This isn’t your average ‘fan-girl crush’ either, it’s borderline obsessive, and totally inconvenient since, other than this one exception, Ellie’s always been strictly into girls. But it doesn’t matter…because Nate doesn’t exist in real life. In real life Ellie has her own issues to worry about, including the death of her brother, the recent suicide attempt of her sister, and then there’s always her annoying roommate Rhett to contend with.

NATE
Nate West isn’t looking to start a new relationship. He’s still heartbroken over the last girl who ripped out his insides, still learning how to manage his new-found fame, and, frankly, not even sure what time-zone he’s in. His life is so full of stress, the last thing he wants is more of it.

So when Nate and Ellie meet on an airplane, nothing life changing should have come from it. But “sometimes in life–very rarely, I might add–you meet someone and you know instantly they’re going to mean something special to you.”

**NEW ADULT ROMANCE**
Recommended for 18+. F/M scenes only. Changing Tides can be read as a standalone, but is recommended to be read second in Sarah Darlington’s KILL DEVIL HILLS Series.

•••••••••••••

REVIEW: Everyone knows the famous saying, “Opposites attract.” In many cases it most certainly does apply. It most certainly did in this book and it worked really well. A regular small town girl meets man crush celebrity and sparks fly. And even though they come from very opposites worlds, they have much in common that brings them together.

Their blossoming relationship and heartwarming chemistry was a treat in itself. For some reason Sarah Darlington has a knack for making relationships feel rushed but not. The relationship between Nathaniel and Ellie felt rushed like it grew in a span of a few weeks but Nathaniel was a perfect gentlemen to Ellie in spite of that. Despite Ellie being a lesbian and never ever been intimate with a man before, she was able to trust Nathaniel. I admit I was skeptical if their love scenes were going to be good or even if there was going to be an awkward one where Ellie chickens out and ran but no. Their love scenes did not disappoint. Full of passion and emotion. Sex and physical love aside, Ellie and Nathaniel were beyond cute together. When they were having a conversation about Nathaniel’s show or when they were goofing off at Disneyland buying hats showed me how emotionally connected they were.

The relationship aside, I really enjoyed Ellie and Nathaniel’s individual characters. Ellie is really easy to like. She’s easygoing and laid back but she’s also a good big sister bear who is fiercely protective of her family and friends. Nathaniel was also very likeable as well. Despite being a celebrity to a popular television show, Nathaniel was very down to earth and caring of other people. I really enjoyed Nathaniel’s humble attitude that he didn’t expect special treatment being a celebrity.

Overall this book was really fun. Fun is the best word to describe the book. The atmosphere of the book was laid back with a nicely set pace. Without giving anything away, the plot takes a huge turn but it doesn’t take away from the romance blossoming between Ellie and Nathaniel. This is one of the books where if you are looking for a good time, I highly suggest this book.

man-child. noun.
-a grown man who is very immature, therefore considered a man-child

manwhore. noun.
-a promiscuous man who has no regard for his sexual partners or the emotional value of his relationships

Rhett Morgan couldn’t have been more wrong for me. The guy drank beer in the shower, for crying out loud. He had no prospects for the future, had slept with half the women in our beach town of Kill Devil Hills, and had no desire to change his manwhore ways.

And when Ben Turner, the guy I had loved from afar for the past four years, died and I couldn’t get over his death, I desperately needed a distraction. A distraction like Rhett. So I used him for a one-night stand. Because, after all, that’s the only thing a guy like Rhett is good for…right?

••••••••••••••

REVIEW: Again another tale of collision of opposites but no less enjoyable of a read. In this book, we get the innocent academic nerd and bartender “manwhore” getting together. I felt like this book was on the more emotionally intense side. This book was so emotion packed it was hard for the book not to affect you and tug at the heartstrings. You feel for Rhett wanting to get through to Sydney but feeling like he can’t compete with Sydney’s infatuation with Ben. Or Sydney’s internal struggle with her infatuation with Ben and her growing feelings for Rhett.

Sarah Darlington did a great job building up this romantic tension between Rhett and Sydney in the previous books. So when Sydney finally makes up her mind and chooses Rhett on the rooftop, it was such a giant swoon-some scene and also a giant relief to read.

What surprised me was there was more to Rhett than just being the rugged bartender “manwhore.” He had actual dreams to be a baseball player but sadly fell short. Being raised by a single mother with low income, he helped her out of the trailer he was raised in into an actual house. Even though he has the town reputation for sleeping around and having one night stands, he is very capable of love. Another shocker, Rhett is a man that can cook. Rhett turned out to be my favorite leading guy of the whole series.

I enjoyed Rhett and Sydney as a couple. While I enjoyed their love scenes which was both hardcore and tender at the same time, I really enjoyed when they connected on an emotional level. I really enjoyed their date where they really got to know each other more.
Closing thoughts, I love this book and it was my favorite book of the series. One word to describe this book is emotional. It was tangible feeling the emotions of Rhett and Sydney. Being opposites, Rhett and Sydney totally work and you will be finding yourself cheering for them to make it as a couple. Looking forward to the next book.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date May 8, 2017

Confession #1: I used to be a puck bunny, but after a hockey player broke my heart, I gave up all things hockey. Now I’m just focused on finding a way to pass my math class so I can graduate college.

Confession #2: Ryder “Ox” Maddox’s deep, sexy voice sends fuzzy tingles through my entire body, and I’m powerless to stop it. Which is a big problem since the hot, surprisingly funny hockey player is my new math tutor.

Confession #3: I can’t stop thinking about how ripped Ryder is from all his hockey training, and how fun it’d be to cross lines with him.

Confession #4: I kissed a hockey player and I liked it.

Confession #5: If I’m not careful, I might relapse and fall for Ryder, and then I’ll be totally pucked.

REVIEW:CONFESSIONS OF A FORMER PUCK BUNNY is the fourth installment in Cindi Madsen’s contemporary, new adult TAKING SHOTS hockey, romance series focusing on the members of Boston College hockey team. This is rookie Ryder ‘Ox’ Maddox, and journalism student Lindsay Rivera’s story line. CONFESSIONS OF A FORMER PUCK BUNNY can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary.

DEFINITION: ‘Puck Bunny-noun-A female ice hockey fan whose interest in the sport is primarily motivated by sexual attraction to the players rather than the enjoyment of the game.’

Told from dual first person points of view (Ryder and Lindsay) CONFESSIONS OF A FORMER PUCK BUNNY follows Lindsay as she struggles to pass her final class of university math. Enter rookie hockey sensation Ryder Maddox, Lindsay’s latest math tutor, and the man with whom Lindsay will fall in love. What ensues are Lindsay’s attempts to keep her distance from everything hockey, hoping to heal her reputation and forget about the past.

Lindsay Rivera is a former puck bunny whose reputation with the players precedes our heroine’s introduction including her failed attempt to seduce then destroy team member Hudson Decker and the BC hockey team (Anatomy of a Player #2). As a rookie, Ryder Maddox is unaware of Lindsay’s reputation, or her previous one-night stands with the members of his team. Ryder’s attraction to Lindsay will be complicated when the past reveals more than either one knew.

The attraction between Ryder and Lindsay is immediate but Lindsay struggles with her past reputation, staying clear of all things hockey related including the members of the team. One year ‘clean and sober’ from the world of hockey Lindsay fears falling back into old habits when Ryder Maddox enters her life. Ryder intends to prove to Lindsay that the past is in the past; his pursuit of our story line hero is sweet and romantic. The $ex scenes are intimate and provocative without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

All of the previous couples play secondary and supporting roles including Lyla and Beck, Whitney and Hudson, Megan and Dane. We are introduce to Ryder’s parents: his father, a former professional hockey player, and his long suffering mother who struggles with sins from the past.

The world building follows the BC hockey team as they vie for the playoffs towards another championship season. Ryder and Lindsay’s relationship continues to build although Lindsay struggles with her previous behavior and reputation.

CONFESSIONS OF A FORMER PUCK BUNNY is a predictable story line with a couple of twists that add some outside conflict into an already struggling relationship. The premise is realistic and engaging; the characters are spirited, colorful and animated; the romance is fated and passionate. CONFESSIONS OF A FORMER PUCK BUNNY is an enjoyable and welcome addition to Cindi Madsen’s TAKING SHOTS new adult, romance series.

REVIEW

4.5 out of 5 for this reader folks!

Another amazing book from Lauren Smith.  I am in absolute love with her historical romance series, and it is always wonderful to find a fave author is just as good in another genre of romance! 🙂

Legally Charming by Lauren Smith is the first book in her “Ever After” contemporary romance series.  Two people who were not expecting or hoping for love, come to find it whether they like it or not, and it knocks them right off their concrete path of life and onto a bumpy, full of adventure and “who knows what is going to happen” road.

Felicity Hart is a sweet, kind and a little naive woman who aspires to complete her graduate degree and move to a dream job to start her life.  She ends up getting dragged to a Halloween party by her friend, and finds herself in a strange predicament before the night is over.  She is laying in bed with this incredibly hot guy!

Jared Redmond is our incredible hot guy.  LOL!  Jared is a lawyer who is aspiring to make partner at his firm, he is sure of himself, somewhat of a reputable bad boy, and comes home to a Halloween party one night to find this beautiful woman sleeping, in his bed.

Neither of them are looking for love .. but love is about to find them!

Off we go on sweet love adventure of sorts.  Both try to fight it in their own ways, but there is a pull that keeps them coming back for more.  Outside circumstances, blackmail, and insecurity are just some of the odds stacked against them, but love has a sneaky way of squirming it’s way in a prevailing over all obstacles.  These two are in for a sweet surprise.

This is truely a lovely romance story with a side of heat.  My only complaint was it was a little too much predictable in story.  That being said, what was predicted in my mind was well delivered and written.  This is fairy tale like in a contemporary setting.  Sweet girl tames bad boy!  I absolutely loved the secondary characters as well and am really hoping that Lauren decides to give them their own stories.

Overall, an easy, fun, light and very sweet read.  If you like a good ole contemporary romance then I highly recommend this book.  I also will take the time to tell you to read her historical romance series as well .. because that is FANTASTIC!

HAPPY READING! 🙂

Silver Edge by Ciara Knight – a Review

Silver Edge by Ciara Knight – a Review

Silver EdgeAmazon / B&N / Kobo / BAM / Book Depository

Description:
All I’ve ever wanted is to fit in.

But no one can ever see past how weird I am. Bright lights? Can’t stand them. Loud noises? Definitely sends me over the edge. And touching? Forget about it.

At least, until I met Drake.

From the moment I walked into that nightclub, I finally felt like I belonged somewhere. And when Drake touched me, it didn’t send me into a tailspin of sensations that I couldn’t stand. It actually felt…nice. Like something I could get used to. And it doesn’t hurt that he’s probably the hottest guy I’ve ever seen.

But now someone wants to close the club down. And since I promised Drake that I’d help him keep it open, I’m going to have to find a way to tap into whatever that inner strength thing is that everyone always talks about. And fast. But what happens if I can’t?

Review:

Silver Edge by Ciara Knight is the start of her new Straight Edge series.

Scarlet hates to be touched, can’t look at anyone in the eye for too long, finds comfort in music and maths. After the death of her mother, she lived in foster homes, but none could see past her problems.

Her drug and sex addiction makes her a prime candidate for an early death, but someone sees past that and throws her a lifeline in the shape of “the community” the guy (called Ton) who runs the community has a job for Scarlet, but she doesn’t last long, and she feels that she has let Ton down, so she runs away and looks for her own job and life.

Drake owns a nightclub, he didn’t want to run one, but it seems he owes his brother a wish. But It’s not doing very well and Drake is on the verge of closing it down. Scarlet points out a few things, the bouncer not doing his job properly, the barman skimming off the profits, and the math mistakes he made in the books.

They decide to work on saving the bar, by promoting a “battle of the bands ” style competition. Their attraction to each other is hindered by Scarlett’s aversion to touch and her past, but she really likes him, and although she made a promise to herself not to sleep around, she’s finding it harder to listen to that inner voice.

The other characters in the book bring it all together, some you like and some you’ll loath. It was interesting reading about people who don’t fit into “normal society” How scarlet uses her music to ground herself, and how she tries to live a normal a life as possible.

I’m hoping that we get to read more about the characters, and maybe visit with Drake and Scarlet again.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date February 14, 2017

When Lucy Hawkins receives a job offer in San Francisco, she can’t wait to spread her wings and leave her small Virginia hometown behind. Her close-knit family supports her as best they can, by handing over the keys to a station wagon that’s seen better days. The catch? The cross-country trip comes with a traveling companion: her older brother’s best friend, aka the guy who took Lucy’s virginity hours before breaking her heart.

After spending the past four years and every last dime caring for his sick father, Reece Sullivan will do just about anything to break free of the painful memories—even if it means a two-week road trip with the one girl who’s ever made it past his carefully guarded exterior. But after long days of bickering in the car turn into steamy nights in secluded motel rooms, Reece learns that, when it comes to Lucy, their story is far from over. And this time, they just might have a shot at a happy ending.

••••••••••

REVIEW: LOVE STORY is the third installment in Lauren Layne’s contemporary LOVE UNEXPECTEDLY romance series. This is Lucy Hawkins and Reece Sullivan’s story line. LOVE STORY can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Each installment does not interconnect with the other stories.

Told from dual first person points of view (Lucy and Reece) using present day and memories from the past, LOVE STORY focuses on the second chance romance between life long friends Lucy Hawkins and Reece Sullivan. Lucy has loved her brother’s best friend since they were barely old enough to walk but falling in love with a man who wants someone else finds our heroine heartbroken and in pain the morning after he takes everything she has to offer. Fast forward several years and Lucy is now a business graduate focusing on the wine making industry, and Reece will be working for a competing winery. As Lucy prepares to embark on a cross-country journey towards her destination in the wine country of California, she discovers that Reece Sullivan will be going along for the ride. What ensues is a tempestuous adventure for two people who love one another but are afraid to admit the truth.

Reece Sullivan lost everyone he loved at an early age. With the recent death of his emotionally absent father Reece knew that it was time to go forth and discover his future. With her degree in hand, Lucy Hawkins sets out to start anew in the vineyards of California not realizing that the man who destroyed her heart will be going along for the ride.

The relationship between Lucy and Reece is one of second chances; a rekindling romance between one-time best friends-a friendship that was destroyed when Reece walked away from the woman he has always loved. Several years would pass before Lucy and Reece would come face to face forcing the couple to look for the truth behind their animosity, anger and pain. The $ex scenes are intimate without the use of over the top sexually graphic language or text.

LOVE STORY is frenemies to lovers adventure; a new adult story line; a rekindling romance between two people who have never stopped loving one another but two people who got caught up in appearances, egos, and a lack of communication. There is plenty of angst, palpable sexual energy, unresolved hurt, and conflicted emotions that roller coaster throughout the story. The back and forth bickering is juvenile and immature as though neither one was able to move on from the past. The premise is engaging; the characters are passionate; the romance struggles with issues of trust and memories of the past.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date May 17, 2016

Jenny Dawson moved to Nashville to write music, not get famous. But when her latest record goes double platinum, Jenny’s suddenly one of the town’s biggest stars—and the center of a tabloid scandal connecting her with a pop star she’s barely even met. With paparazzi tracking her every move, Jenny flees to a remote mansion in Louisiana to write her next album. The only hiccup is the unexpected presence of a brooding young caretaker named Noah, whose foul mouth and snap judgments lead to constant bickering—and serious heat.

Noah really should tell Jenny that he’s Preston Noah Maxwell Walcott, the owner of the estate where the feisty country singer has made her spoiled self at home. But the charade gives Noah a much-needed break from his own troubles, and before long, their verbal sparring is indistinguishable from foreplay. But as sizzling nights give way to quiet pillow talk, Noah begins to realize that Jenny’s almost as complicated as he is. To fit into each other’s lives, they’ll need the courage to face their problems together—before the outside world catches up to them.

•••••••••••

REVIEW: GOOD GIRL is the second installment in Lauren Layne’s contemporary, adult LOVE UNEXPECTEDLY erotic, romance series. This is country star Jenny Dawson, and Preston ‘Noah’ Maxwell Walcott’s story line. GOOD GIRL can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Jenny and Noah) GOOD GIRL looks at the fall out of lies, secret, fame and betrayal. Jenny Dawson is a country music phenom whose star status implodes when an innocent picture of her surfaces with a married man. Labeled a whore and homewrecker our heroine seeks solace in the back woods of Louisiana where she will meet Noah Maxwell, a man she presumes to be the caretaker at the Walcott estates. What ensues is the building relationship and romance between Noah and Jenny, and Jenny’s spiral into heartbreak when Noah’s true identity is finally revealed.

GOOD GIRL is a slow building story of romance; a second chance at love for a man whose prior relationship ended with his fiancés affair-an affair that has hardened Noah’s heart. Jenny Dawson is innocent of the charges against her, and falling in love with Noah Maxwell was never in the cards. Noah’s past will come screaming into the present leaving a heartbroken Jenny to move on with her life. The $ex scenes are intimate and explorative.

We are introduced to Noah’s best friends: Finn Reed and Vaughn; Noah’s ex fiancé Yvonne Damascus; and Jenny’s bestie Amber Fuller. Most of the story line premise takes place on the grounds of the Walcott estate with very little outside interference from paparazzi or interfering friends. It would be nice to see a couple of story line for Finn and Vaughn but that doesn’t appear to be the direction the author is taking as each of the books in the series is a complete stand alone and not interconnected with any of the other stories.

GOOD GIRL is a story of rebuilding for one woman whose life is destroyed by secrets and lies; and by one man who perpetuates more lies to keep his own identity secret. The premise is hopeful and romantic; the characters are passionate in their beliefs; the romance is heartbreaking knowing that there is a time-limit that is about to expire.

Excerpt

“Spock, we’re giving you Horny!” my mom blurts out, apparently fed up with my denseness.
Her utterance is too much for my siblings to handle and they both burst out laughing, retreating into the kitchen to rejoin the party where there’s wine.
Oh what I wouldn’t give for wine right now.
“I, um . . . you’re giving me the car?” I ask.
“Because yours broke down,” my dad explains, walking forward to thump Horny’s dented hood.
“And this one’s . . . not broken down?” I ask skeptically.
Look, it’s not that I’m not grateful. My parents are trying to give me a car, I appreciate the sweetness of the gesture, it’s just . . .
Here’s the thing about Horny: he barely got us three kids through high school. I mean, Horny is the car that sputtered and shook making it the 3.2 miles to Jefferson High, no matter who was behind the wheel.
I’m even going to come all the way clean here and say that early on in my freshmen year, I was embarrassed showing up in Horny. Then I realized I was lucky to have a car at all, and well . . . I dunno, I guess Horny became a part of us Hawkins kids’ charm, because the station wagon was practically an institution from Craig’s high school reign all the way through Brandi’s.
But poor Horny quit working years ago. Much to Brandi’s chagrin, he gave up the ghost a mere two months before her high school graduation, and I spent the last bit of her senior year being picked up by my parents.
“He’s going to take you to California,” Dad says, giving the car another thump.
“Really?” I step forward and run a tentative finger along the familiar panel. He’s had a bath, so at least that’s something. “Because last I knew, he wouldn’t even make it out of the garage.”
“Yeah, well, we neglected him for a while, but he’s right as rain now,” Dad says, puffing out his chest as though Horny’s a fourth child.
“Like, as in he actually starts?”
“Purrs like a kitten,” my mom says with an emphatic nod, even though I know she doesn’t even like cats. “We didn’t believe it, but we took him to church on Sunday and there were no issues.”
I literally bite my tongue to keep from pointing out that this is hardly a feat. Sacred Presbyterian is 0.8 miles away from the house.
“You took Horny into a shop?” I ask, starting to warm to the idea of having a car again. I’m a little touched, actually. Money is tight for my parents. Dad’s a PE teacher, and Mom gives a mean winery tour, but the gig’s never paid much.
“Not exactly, it was more of a bartering situation,” Mom says.
“Yeah?” I say, going around to the driver’s seat, already giddy with the prospect of telling Oscar I’ll be able to come see him in Miami after all, even if I won’t exactly be riding in style.
“Reece agreed to fix him up.”
I’m lowering myself into the car as my dad says this, but I reverse so quickly I hit my head. My skull doesn’t even register the pain, because I’m too busy registering the hurt in my heart at the familiar name. “I’m sorry, what?”
“Reece,” my mom says, giving me a bemused look. “He’s always been handy with cars.”
“He fixed up the car in exchange for what?”
And then I feel—I actually feel—the air change around me as the side door to the garage opens, and a new presence sucks all the air out of the space.
I don’t turn around. I don’t move. But I feel his eyes on me. Over me.
“Reece is headed out to California too,” my oblivious mother chatters on. “It worked out perfectly actually. Now you two can ride together, and your dad and I don’t have to worry about you alone in the middle of nowhere with a twenty-something-year-old car.
They think the car is going to be the problem here? It’s not the car that’s toxic to me. It’s him.
Reece Sullivan. My brother’s best friend. My parents’ “other son.”
Slowly I force myself to turn, and even though I’m prepped, the force of that ice-blue gaze still does something dangerous to me.
He winks, quick and cocky, and I suck in a breath, and I have to wonder . . .
I wonder if my parents would feel differently about their little plan if they knew that their makeshift mechanic is the same guy that popped my cherry six years earlier under their very roof.
And then broke my heart twenty-four hours later.
