Jared

They say love and hate dance together along the same line.
My feelings for Layla don’t dance on the line; they destroy it.
It’s been seven years since she disappeared without a trace.
And now she’s back, but things have changed—I’ve changed.
I’m no longer the Jared she remembers, the boy who wanted to protect her.
I’m very much my father’s son, and I take what I want, and what I want is Layla.
But this time, I’m keeping her forever.

Layla

Seven years—that’s how long it’s been since I’ve seen him.
After painstakingly putting myself back together, I’m finally ready to start a life without his memory chasing my every step.
Imagine my surprise when my new beginning leads me straight back to him.
Only he’s not the boy I remember.
He’s angry.
Damaged.
Hiding secrets that want to destroy him.
He hates me. He wants me.

I’m not sure I’ll survive the man he has become. His demons threaten to destroy us both.

REVIEW:DECEIVE ME is the first instalment in Vi Carter’s contemporary, new adult BROKEN PEOPLE dark, erotic, romance duet focusing on nineteen year olds Jared McGivney and Layla Masters.

WARNING: Due to the nature of the story line premise there may be triggers for more sensitive readers.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Jared and Layla) using present day and memories from the past, DECEIVE ME follows the rebuilding relationship and friendship between nineteen year olds Jared McGivney and Layla Masters. Jared and Layla met and grew up in the foster care system, a system that let down our story line couple. Seven years earlier, following a catastrophic injury, twelve year old, Layla disappeared, leaving Jared to fight the system on his own. Fast forward to present day wherein Layla, a shadow of her former self, on her first days at Kingscourt College comes face to face with her past, the boy she once loved but a boy turned young man who is no longer the person she once knew. A target of the mean girls and bully boys, Layla tries to remain on the down low but Jared insists on taking our heroine out of her comfort zone. What ensues is the rebuilding relationship and friendship between Jared and Layla, and the potential fall-out as Jared’s past takes aim at our story line heroine.

Layla Masters has struggled in the years since losing her best friend but found a little peace in the years since. Seeing Jared brings back all sorts of memories of what happened and why but Jared’s attitude runs both hot and cold, in the face of perceived betrayal and the loss of his friend but all is not well in Jared’s personal life, and the fall-out is about to take down our story line couple.

The relationship between Jared and Layla is a second chance friendship. At twelve years old our couple were separated when Layla’s life spiralled out of control. Seven years of therapy and looking for the boy she could never forget to discover that Jared was no longer the boy she remembered. Jared has never forgotten the young girl that continues to control his heart but Jared’s life went from the proverbial frying pan into the fire, and Layla is about to pay the price. The $ex scenes are intimate without the use of over the top sexually graphic language and text.

The secondary and supporting characters include Layla’s parents Evelyn and Carl Masters; Jared’s father, as well as fellow students Ashley, Lucas and Kieran, and the mean girls. The requisite evil have many faces.

DECEIVE ME is a story of anger and rejection, secrets and lies, betrayal and vengeance, friendships and love. The premise is gritty and raw; the romance is seductive; the characters are broken, struggling and hurt. DECEIVE ME ends on a cliff hanger-you have been warned.

Everything in me stills as Jay walks towards me, his face tightening the closer he gets. It transforms him from someone I used to know with dimples and light eyes, to an angry God.
“Hi.” I sound so breathless as he stops in front of me.
He glares at me and rubs his jaw before speaking. “The three days you were missing, where were you?”
He’s angry.
My throat aches again; my heart beats rapidly as I stare up into the dark abyss that wants to consume me. I need to speak, but for the first time with Jared, the words are lodged in my throat.
His large hand touches my jawline, and my eyes flick up at him. His eyes have darkened even further, and I’m not sure what has prompted him to touch me. He looks revolted by the action, yet he hasn’t let me go. When we were younger, I knew exactly what he was thinking, but right now, the unknown is scaring me.
His hand travels down to my neck, his thumb flicking back and forth, his touch burns into me. I swallow.
“Where were you…?” His words trail off as he looks at me with haunted eyes.

Konstantin Reznikov’s war buried me in darkness.

Four years later, he’s the one dragging me screaming from my coma.

The viciously domineering, brutal, terrifyingly gorgeous tyrant who haunts the shattered fragments of my memories. The man with dark gray eyes as cold as his dark gray soul.

I remember almost nothing from my past. But he does. Now, he owns my present, and my future.

Because Konstantin didn’t wake me up for free. He brought me out of my darkness to engulf me in his.

To own me. To trap me in a maze of twisted games and jagged thorns.

Now I’m bound to the broken god of wrath and ruin who might hold the key to my past.

Or maybe, to my unraveling.

Broken God is book 1 in a duet and not a standalone book. The completed duet is a standalone story within the Savage Heirs series, though. You do not need to have read the previous books in this series to read this duet.

This extra dark Bratva academy romance is guaranteed to leave your kindle steaming. Step into the viper’s nest of Oxford Hills Academy and meet the Savage Heirs of Bratva kings and oligarchs. )Absolutely no cheating,

•••••••

REVIEW:BROKEN GOD is the fifth instalment in Jagger Cole’s contemporary, new adult SAVAGE HEIRS dark, erotic, Mafia romance series, and the first instalment in the author’s interconnected duet. This is eighteen year old Mafia princess Mara Belsky, and heir to the Reznikov’s throne Konstantin Reznikov’s story line. BROKEN GOD can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty but for back story I recommend reading BRUTAL KING where Mara’s story begins.

WARNING: Due to the nature of the story line premise there may be triggers for more sensitive readers.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Konstantin and Mara)and emails from the past, BROKEN GOD focuses on the weeks after eighteen year old Mara Belsky wakes from a four year coma, a coma induced by a bullet to the back of her head. Mara has no recollection of what happened four years earlier, and in the ensuing time, only bits and pieces from throughout her hospital stay come to the forefront and quickly disappear but Mara’s return to ‘civilization’ begins with her introduction to the Oxford Hills Academy, a private, preparatory school for the rich and infamous, an introduction that includes the dark and dangerous Konstantin Reznikov. Konstantin Reznikov has a precarious and murderous reputation, a reputation earned by his need for control and his ability to kill without remorse, but Konstantin has set his sights on our story line heroine, blackmailing and threatening a young woman who is barely able to control her own life; a girl who is unable to remember what happened or why. What ensues is the acrimonious but building relationship between Konstantin and Mara, and the fall-out as hidden secrets reveal a much darker and more dangerous betrayal than Mara could have ever imagined.

The relationship between Mara and Konstantin is that of jailer and prisoner. Konstantin wants to control every aspect of Mara’s life but in doing so slowly succumbs to his attraction to our story line heroine. Mara knows that to defy Konstantin would threaten the lives and families of the people she loves, people who struggle to understand the control Konstantin has over our story line heroine. The $ex scenes are aggressive and intense with some behavior and actions of questionable consent.

Most of the previous story line couples have cameo roles. We are reintroduced to Mara’s twin sister Lizbet and her boyfriend Lucas (Brutal King); the requisite mean girls, as well as Mara’s former bodyguard Grigori.

BROKEN GOD is a story of betrayal and vengeance, power and control, murder and retribution, secrets and lies. The premise is dark, gritty, raw and dramatic; the characters are broken, embattled, powerful and charismatic; the romance is a power-struggle in which Mara is often threatened when she disobeys or talks back-Konstantin is broken, a bully, a powerful Mafia ‘god’ who is determined to break our story line heroine. BROKEN GOD ends on a cliff hanger-you have been warned.

REVIEW: CRUEL PROMISES is the second and final instalment in Faith Summers’ contemporary, new adult CRUEL SECRETS dark, erotic, Mafia, bully romance duet focusing on nineteen and eighteen year old, Mafia/Bratva heirs Caspian Ivanov, and Willow Raventhorn. CRUEL PROMISES should not be read as a stand alone as it picks up immediately after the events and cliff hanger of book one CRUEL LIES.

WARNING: Due to the nature of the story line premise, there may triggers for more sensitive readers.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Caspian and Willow) CRUEL PROMISES picks up immediately after the events of book on in which Willow learns her fate and destiny at the hands of a secret society of ‘Knights’. As the heir to her late father’s business and fortune Willow quickly learns the ‘Knights’ have taken control, of not only her money, but her autonomy as well. Forced to marry a man she doesn’t love, Willow will discover that enemies will become friends, and friends will become enemies in a game of power and control, murder and revenge. As Caspian Ivanov goes in search of the truth, our ‘anti’ hero can no longer trust the people he once called family and friends, knowing the reach of money and power is greedy and long. What ensues is the building but contemptuous relationship between Caspian and Willow, and the potential fall-out as the truth reveals a more sinister darkness than they could have ever imagined.

The relationship between Caspian and Willow is acrimonious at best. Willow and Caspian had been childhood best friends but a family secret pulled Caspian out of our heroine’s life, forcing Willow to struggle with what happened on her own. Marrying Caspian has always been Willow’s fantasy and dream but forced to marry a monster meant the turmoil of a broken heart, and the possibility of losing it all. Caspian Ivanov had never stopped loving our story line heroine but life took a dark and dangerous turn for our story line ‘anti’ hero. Barely surviving the abuse and torture years before, Caspian turns his pain outwards, in an effort to protect the woman with whom he has fallen in love. The $ex scenes are aggressive and intense, with dubious and questionable consent.

Once again, there is a large ensemble cast of powerful and determined secondary and supporting characters including Caspian’s father Aleksander Ivanov, and his cousin Thorne; Willow’s friends Lucian Sokolov, and Eilish; Willow’s guardians Adrian and Elaine. The requisite evil has many faces.

CRUEL PROMISES is a story of power and control, money and influence, betrayal and vengeance, secrets and lies, love and acceptance. The premise is dark, disheartening and twisted but felt a little bit rushed; the characters are haunting and tragic; the romance is dramatic and provocative.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date November 8, 2021.

Escaping their land’s destruction, the Kaptarish, Drontas, Verbaren, and Ninfires have reached the island of Gambir. The last families with talents like mind-reading, extraordinary force, burning with their hands, and flying, hope to find refuge in this place.

Yarisha, the only mind-reader in the Verbaren family, will fall in love with Malakay, the most arrogant sibling in the Ninfire family. She knows the young man’s mother and the matriarch of the Ninfires, Mandely, will never consent to this relationship since she considers the Verbaren family inferior to them.

None of the members in the families expect to find a land full of secrets where those with the darkest looking-skin have better chances to survive and where the leader, Ian, is planning to take wives by force.

•••••••

REVIEW:A Fantasy/Dystopian style of book which was really good. A new author for me, and one I’ll be keeping an eye on. A fast paced book in which supernatural families fight to survive.

These families all have different abilities, and all think they are superior to one another.

We start with families fleeing their homes to a new island. It’s a scary time for everyone, characters are vying for leadership, some embrace it, whilst others don’t really want it.

It did remind me a little of swallows and Amazons, but with the characters being a little older it’s also a little like Robinson Crusoe. The squabbling within the families as they set up hierarchy was interesting. Each family is different and that was handy as you don’t want to get them mixed up.

Yarisha and Malakay are the main characters that are in this book. Both from opposing families, both aren’t really suppose to be together, Yarisha is a strong personality and a girl that knows her mind, a leader in her family (but she’s unsure of her role) she knows that she has to get the approval of Malakay’s mother (which is going to be near impossible) Malakay is a complex character who grows within this book.

Uniting families seem like the best plan, the more there are of you, the better your chances of survival. But if you despise everyone around you, how will that be possible?

Multiple points of view can sometimes confuse the reader (I know it does me?) but I never got that with this book, you know who is who with every word written. A complex world and it’s cast soon emerges, and your quickly drawn in.

We then also have the faction that wants to lead EVERYONE. He’s not a nice guy a d it soon emerges that he wants a harem to rebuild his family, but he’s looking at the other families to complete his harem! So that means there will be fighting as the families don’t really wave to give up women to his group!

We also have eyes that are watching the proceedings! Are these friends or foes?

I loved reading this book and hope there will be another as there are so many other characters and stories that could be told.

REVIEW:BRUTAL KING is the third instalment in Jagger Cole’s contemporary, young adult/new adult SAVAGE HEIRS dark, erotic, Bratva romance series. This is eighteen year old Lizbet Belsky, and Lukas Komarov’s story line. BRUTAL KING can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary.

WARNING: Due to the nature of the story line premise including graphic violence and abuse there may be triggers for more sensitive readers. Although most of the characters are high school aged, and attend a private, boarding school for the elite, royal, rich or connected, the story line contains adult situations, therefore I do not recommend for anyone under eighteen years of age.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Lizbet and Lukas) BRUTAL KING follows the marriage of convenience between eighteen years olds Lizbet Belsky, and Lukas Komarov. Two years earlier, Lizbet Belsky’ father Semyon was gunned down in a Bratva war. No love loss between Lizbet and her father but a desperate need finds our heroine facing the heads of the Bratva family, aiming to take control of her father’s empire but Lizbet never expected to come face to face with Lukas Komarov, one of the ruling kings at England’s Oxford Hall Academy, and a particular nasty thorn in our heroine’s side. The heads of the Bratva families are not easily swayed and reluctantly make Lizbet choose losing everything or marrying on one of the sons of the Bratva families. Enter Lukas Komarov, and the man with whom Lizbet would fall in love. What ensues is the acrimonious relationship between Lukas and Lizbet, and the potent fall-out as Lukas’ demons begin to take over, and our heroine stands in the direct line of fire.

Lukas Komarov’s backstory is dangerous and dark; heart breaking and demented, thusly, controlling the monster within. Lukas, unable to control the demons from his past, uses pain, in an effort to excise the memories and the dragon that demands to be released. Lizbet is a reminder of everything that went wrong, everything that Lukas cannot control. Lizbet Belsky knows her time is limited, and in this, she is desperate to gain control of her late father’s estate but the Bratva families demand payment for her father’s sins, and this Lizbet is to be made an example, an example that will fall for the man that wants to destroy her life.

The relationship between Lizbet and Lukas is acrimonious at best. Lukas wants nothing to do with our story line heroine believing she is not worthy of attending the prestigious Oxford Hall Academy. With her father’s history, and sins against the reigning Bratva families, Lizbet is persona non grata, and in this, is desperate to gain control before everything is for naught but as Lukas and Lizbet begin to reveal a little bit about their pasts, the pain and darkness begin to engulf our story line couple. The $ex scenes are passionate and seductive without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

We are reintroduced to Bratva Prince/heir Ilya Volkov and Tenley Chambers (Savage Heir 1), Mischa Tsavakov and princess Charlotte Bergendem (Savage Prince 2), as well as Lukas’ adopted parents Victor and Fiona, Bratva heir Konstantin Resnikov, and Lizbet’s roommate Julianna McCreed.

BRUTAL KING is a dark and dangerous story of power and control, betrayal and revenge, creed, desperation, abuse and torture. The premise is raw; the romance is dramatic; the characters are broken, desperate, and determined.

A reader first and foremost, Jagger Cole cut his romance writing teeth penning various fan-fiction stories years ago. After deciding to hang up his writing boots, Jagger worked in advertising pretending to be Don Draper. It worked enough to convince a woman way out of his league to marry him, though, which is a total win.

Now, Dad to two little princesses and King to a Queen, Jagger is thrilled to be back at the keyboard.

When not writing or reading romance books, he can be found woodworking, enjoying good whiskey, and grilling outside–rain or shine.

REVIEW: THE SENIOR is the fourth instalment in Monica Murphy’s contemporary, new adult THE COLLEGE YEARS erotic, romances series-a spin off from the author’s THE CALLAHANS which in turn is a spin off from the ONE WEEK GIRLFRIEND series. THE SENIOR is the continuation of twenty year old Ava Callahan, and Eli Bennett’s story beginning with ADDICTED TO HIM and MEANT TO BE (The Callahans 3 & 4). THE SENIOR can be read as a stand alone but I recommend reading THE SOPHOMORE book three, and the series in order for back story and cohesion as Ava and Eli’s story begins in the aforementioned series.

NOTE: Due to the nature of the story line premise, there may be triggers for more sensitive readers.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Eli and Ava) THE SENIOR picks up immediately after the cliff hanger of book three THE SOPHOMORE in which Ava announces she has been accepted to study in Europe , and a devastated Eli pushes her out of his life. Fast forward several months, with the start of the fall semester, and Eli’s senior year as a college quarterback underway, our hero plays his best games ever but Ava’s return forces Eli to reconsider what happened and why.Eli and Ava’s on-again, off-again relationship begins to upset everyone around, and Eli’s selfishness, continues to push Eva out of his life. Weeks turn into months, and the up and down of their relationship begins to take it toll on our story line couple.

Eli and Ava’s relationship is a disaster; a sinking ship of miscommunication, misunderstanding, ego, stubbornness, immaturity and fragility. Eli had struggled to understand Ava’s need to leave, believing she didn’t care about his wants and needs, and in the end, his crumbling psyche was unable to accept our heroine’s choices. Ava had supported Eli’s football career and choices for close to four years but when she chose herself, her relationship with Eli imploded, leaving both Eli and Ava heart broken and destroyed.

THE SENIOR is an emotional story of heart break and loss, stubbornness and immaturity, anxiety, acceptance and love. The premise is dramatic and impassioned; the embattled romance struggles; the characters are broken, raw and edgy.
