ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date July 16, 2024

A perilous journey ignites passion between an artist and an heiress
Cassius Westbrook, the youngest twin son of a duke, has no desire to bask in the societal privileges his birth affords him. Choosing the arduous path of an artist in Brighton over the complications of love and marriage, he dedicates his enthusiasm to his artwork instead of romance. However, his steadfast resolve falters when he is hired to paint a miniature for the enchanting Beatrice Fairfax. Her guardian uncle intends to use this portrait to secure a wealthy suitor for the orphaned heiress, a notion that Cassius finds detestable, yet he agrees to the commission.

Beatrice Fairfax, heiress to a modest fortune, is resolute in her decision never to marry. Scarred by her mother’s scandalous affair and her own disheartening encounters with men, she dedicates herself to an independent yet solitary future, expanding her animal rescue sanctuary and traveling the world. But her uncle harbors sinister designs on her fortune, determined to bend her to his will by any means necessary, including forcing her into an arranged marriage. His machinations lead Beatrice to seek Cassius’s aid, igniting a desperate flight from Brighton to London.

As these two people from opposite worlds journey together, their forced proximity fans the flames of an unexpected attraction, challenging both to navigate their feelings and reconsider their futures. Will they seize this chance, or will the shadows of their pasts and the dangers of the present keep them apart? Dive into their tumultuous tale and discover if love can indeed conquer all.

REVIEW:Reading Colette’s books are what i call a palate cleanser. It’s light/refreshing and you don’t have to worry about spice!

Beatrice is going to stay a spinster forever! After countless disasters with men and the scandals surrounding her mother, it’s made her extremely wary. But that’s not to say she a wallflower, oh no, she’s very independent and spirited.

Cassius only wants to be recognised for his artwork. He has no wish to bask in the notoriety like his twin does! Cassius seems like a really nice guy. He doesn’t want or need his name, and when faced with a moral dilemma, he definitely steps up.

When fate throws these two people together, there is definitely an interest there, but as both have decided to remain single, it doesn’t look like anything is going to happen….

Cassius has been asked to paint a portrait of the lovely Beatrice, her uncle intends to marry her off unbeknownst to her to a rich suitor! So they decide to plan an escape from Brighton to London, and along the way they find their friendship turning into more… But will they seize the opportunity for love? Or will their pasta hold them back?

I really enjoyed this one. Although no steam/spice, the story is a steady paced read, and soon you are engaged and engrossed.

I didn’t care for Beatrice’s uncle (nasty man!) And you have to remember that in this time period, women weren’t allowed freedom, or an option (and Beatrice had a strong belief and opinion.)

If you’re looking for a sweet love story with only a few kisses, then I recommend this one for you to read.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date May 23, 2024

Ten years ago, Vadim Ivanov broke my heart.
Now he’s back. Bringing death and chaos with him.

VADIM

Hearing Kesera’s voice on the radio makes me want her. But wanting a woman won’t help me win a mafia war, especially not the mother of my child. I can’t expose them to the violence in my world. Love makes you vulnerable. It’s a luxury I can’t afford.

She needs to disappear, even if she takes my heart with her a second time.

KESERA

I spent a decade searching for a man who didn’t want to be found. I learned to fight my own battles and bring up our daughter like her father never existed. Now he thinks he can tell me what to do. I don’t take orders, even from a mafia boss.

Even if he’s the man I love. Can love survive odds like this?

REVIEW:Brutal Secrets is an emotional roller coaster filled with drama, spice and all the Daddy vibes. For all the mafia lovers out there, this will be right up your alley. The storyline moves a little slow at first, but as the plot develops, the pace does pick up.

Kasera is a singer, living a normal-ish life, trying to get through to the next day without being seen. After a set one night, her skeezy manager makes a move on her and doesn’t take no for an answer. Enter in Vadim.

Vadim works for the Russian Mafia as hired muscle, on the night of a special event, he is starstruck by the voice of an angel. It does something to his soul that he has never experienced before, and he wants to hear more of it. While he is out on his run of the property, he sees the owner of the voice (Sera) being harassed, and does what he does best. Protect. He whisks her away to safety where they spend the weekend together.

Alas, a good book always has a twist. Sera had to return to the states and now ten years later she is searching for Vadim again with their ten year old daughter in tow. A whole lot of crazy happiness when Sera does finally find, he is not the same man she fell in love with all those years ago.

Honestly this book was a little difficult to follow at first, it moved a little slowly to start, but once it does finally get going, boy oh boy does it go. Brutal Secrets is an intense, romantic suspense, mafia trope that is sure to keep its readers engaged and entertained.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date April 9, 2024

Nalla, the blooded daughter of Zsadist, has led a sheltered life. Protected by her father and the Brotherhood, kept away from the deadly war with the Lessening Society, she is chafing against the walls of the very safety that has ensured her survival. One night, she gives in to her restlessness…and finds herself face-to-face with a male whose inner darkness rivals even that of her sire’s horrific origins.

Nate is a fighter with nothing to lose—and nothing to live for. Tortured in a human lab as a young, then cursed with immortality, he is all vengeance and no purpose because he cares for no one—not even himself. The Brotherhood knows this all too well and following Nate’s deliberate violation of the cardinal rule in the war, they declare him a dangerous liability that must be dealt with.

When Nalla and Nate find themselves fighting side by side, daggers aren’t the only things that fly. A sizzling attraction is ignited, though Nalla knows her sire will never accept him—and on his side, Nate has made a secret bargain to end his own immortality. As the enemy closes in, and Nalla realizes she must choose between her mate and her sire, what starts with such passion may well end with eternal sorrow and no chance of a reunion—even in the Fade.

REVIEW:THE BELOVED is the twenty-second instalment in JR Ward’s adult BLACK DAGGER BROTHERHOOD paranormal, romance series. This is Nalla and Nate’s story line. THE BELOVED can be read as a stand alone but for back story and history, I recommend reading book twenty-one LASSITER, where most of the current story line begins.

NOTE: THE BELOVED is the start of a new series arc focusing on the next/second generation vampires and BDB warriors, although many of the previous BDB warriors make cameo appearances.

Told from numerous omniscient third person perspectives, following several intersecting paths, THE BELOVED advances the series approximately thirty-three years. Nalla, blooded daughter of Zsadist and Bella is struggling with her place in the family. For years the BDB have been pulled back into a war with the Lessening Society, and our heroine feels like an afterthought even though her life and her heart have the protection of the entire BDB. Nalla never expected to fall for Nate, the adopted son of Murhder and Sarah, a young man who spent years tortured and abused, a young man whose back story and suffering was much like her father’s.

Meanwhile, Bitty, has come unto her own, and with it, her own abilities are much more powerful. Able to ‘see’ certain outcomes and possibilities, Bitty is desperate to warn those who are battling themselves, but often times the warning may go unheeded by those involved.

As the Lessening society continues to grow in numbers and powers, their new leader begins to target individual members of the BDB, pushing those, sitting on the fringe, back into the family, where they belong.

THE BELOVED is a another complex and complicated story as many of the previous story line (LASSITER) questions remain unanswered. Several secondary characters who had promising possibilities are no longer mentioned or have disappeared, several had crossed-over from the author’s interconnected Fallen Angel series. The thirty-three year gap reveals a much older second generation, many of whom have had their transformations or about to go into their needings, yet the three decade jump comes with few details or highlights.

THE BELOVED is a story of betrayal and vengeance, power and control; depression and desperation; family and friendships, relationships and love. The premise is intriguing and intense; the romance is seductive and fated; the characters are determined, dangerous and frenzied but Nalla, Nate, LW and Bitty’s growth comes with the attitude of most teenagers struggling to form their own identities, and in this, I often felt like I was reading a YA story line. Although, now ranging in age from mid-thirties to sixties, the teenage angst is strong and demanding.
