ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date May 2, 2016

Reclusive magazine exec Ethan Talley is furious when his business partner hires a photographer—a gorgeous photographer who insists on speaking her mind, damn it—to take pictures for an upcoming article. No matter how badly he wants the woman…under him, over him, against the nearest wall…he has reasons for not wanting to be on camera anymore, and his scars are only one of them.

It takes approximately two seconds for Lissa Kingsman to recognize Ethan as the popular YouTube gamer who fell off the planet years ago. But this Ethan is different than the charming man she used to watch, and the crush she had on him then is nothing compared to the way she’s lusting after the brooding man he is today. If sex is all he can give her, fine. Why not use that bearskin rug in her studio for something other than a prop? But she’s determined to put a chink in his armor, no matter how much he resists.

••••••••••••••

REVIEW: LEVELING THE FIELD is the fourth installment in Megan Erickson’s contemporary, adult GAMERS erotic, romance series focusing on the men and women who work for Gamers Magazine and in the gaming industry. This is former YouTube sensation and Gamers co-owner Ethan Talley, and photographer Lissa Kingsman. LEVELING THE FIELD can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Grant is Chloe’s brother (Playing for Her Heart #2).

Told from dual third person perspectives (Lissa and Ethan) LEVELING THE FIELD follows the building relationship between Lissa and Ethan. Ethan is a man who keeps to himself; hides a multitude of physical and emotional scars that have left him a broken shell of a man, and a man whose heart was destroyed with the death of someone close. Enter Lissa Kingsman, a woman whose own emotional scars remain hidden behind the glitter of boudoir photography, and a smile that presents its face to the world. When Lissa’s latest assignment to photograph the reclusive Gamer entrepreneur goes downhill, she is stunned when Ethan makes her an offer she doesn’t want to refuse. What ensues is the friends with benefits relationship between two people whose earlier years met with heartbreak, loss, and grief. Tragedy struck both families: where Ethan has shunned the outside world and the family he once loved, Lissa calls attention to the people who have overcome their scars and obstacles in life.

LEVELING THE FIELD is a storyline that covers a number of issues including accidental death, suicide, gay lovers, interracial relationships, and dysfunctional family heartbreak. All of the previous storyline couples play secondary and supporting roles. We are introduced to Lissa’s parents and her brother Angel, as well as Ethan’s family-long estranged from their only son.

LEVELING THE FIELD is a quick and sexy read. There are moments of heartbreak and presumed betrayal; grief and loss; acceptance and moving forward. The premise is enjoyable; the characters are colorful, animated and fun; the romance is seductive. There is no denying the attraction between our leading couple but some of their interludes felt cold and empty hearted-it is the nature of the beast that only wants $ex with no emotional after thoughts.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date April 26, 2016

Carrigan O’Malley has always known her arranged marriage would be more about power and prestige than passion. But after one taste of the hard-bodied, whiskey-voiced James Halloran, she’s ruined for anyone else. Too bad James and his family are enemy number 1.

Hallorans vs. O’Malleys—that’s how it’s always been. James should be thinking more about how to expand his family’s empire instead of how silky Carrigan’s skin is against his and how he can next get her into his bed. Those are dangerous thoughts. But not nearly as dangerous as he’ll be if he can’t get what he wants: Carrigan by his side for the rest of their lives.

•••••••••

REVIEW: THE WEDDING PACT is the second installment in Katee Robert’s contemporary, adult THE O’MALLEY’S erotic, romance series focusing on three warring underground families of Boston’s Irish mob. This is Carrigan O’Malley, and James Halloran’s story line-a forbidden romance between two people whose families are on the brink of war. THE WEDDING PACT can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story line is revealed where necessary.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Carrigan and James) THE WEDDING PACT follows Carrigan as she has been given thirty days to choose a prospective husband from her father’s list of potential business partners-all of whom want something from the arrangement other than a possible wife. What ensues are Carrigan’s attempts to abide by her father’s wishes while secretly meeting the man with whom she has fallen in love. THE WEDDING PACT is another romance focusing on the forbidden relationship between ‘Romeo and Juliet’.

James Halloran is the new head of the Halloran crime family, and a man who is not on the welcome list at the O’Malley residence. His relationship with Carrigan is about to initiate a war between the Irish families. Carrigan will soon find herself a virtual prisoner of a man who is determined to end James Hallorans’s life, and her father denies all responsibility for his daughter’s future happiness.

The relationship between Carrigan and James began under less than comforting circumstances when our heroine is held prisoner by Jame’s family and father. James and Carrigan’s attraction to one another is immediate although the knowledge that their relationship is forbidden amps up the angst and anxiety of their clandestine meetings. The $ex scenes are intimate and seductive.

The secondary and supporting characters include most if not all members of the O’Malley, Halloran, and Sheridan families in the Boston Irish crime syndicate including Teague and Callista (The Marriage Contract #1) who are preparing for their official wedding ceremony. We are witness to family dysfunction and the fight between family members for power and control.

Like the previous story line (The Marriage Contract), and because the premise focuses on the Irish Boston mafia, there is some violence, blood shed, and death, but mostly behind the scenes, implied or toned down in presentation. There are moments of heartbreaking betrayal; loss of life; family secrets, and expressions of love. The premise is exhilarating; the characters are dynamic and charismatic; the romance is a struggle towards a happily ever after. Sometimes family is not about blood but about the person you love.

Excerpt beige

James had thought he’d imagined the fear in Carrigan’s voice when she called. If she was in actual trouble, she sure as hell wasn’t going to call him—no matter how much he liked the idea of being the one to swoop in and save her from her problems. He liked the idea too much.
But then she walked into the quiet little pub where he was waiting and he realized he hadn’t been wrong the first time. There were faint bruises beneath her eyes, like she’d been sleeping even less than he had, and she held herself like a woman who’d been beaten for the first time. He was on his feet before he made a conscious decision to move. “Who hurt you?”
“No one.”
“Don’t play that martyr bullshit with me, Carrigan. Who the fuck put that look on your face?” She’d gone through hell and back because of him and it hadn’t put that haunted expression in her green eyes. He clenched his fists, trying and failing to get control of his temper. She wasn’t his to protect. Hell, even if she was, he had a pretty shitty track record of keeping people in his care safe. There was no reason why she’d be any different.
Except that he wanted her to be different.
She brushed past him, drawing his attention to her clothing. “What the hell are you wearing?”
Carrigan spun and glared. “I don’t need your shit right now.”
“You called me, lovely, so my shit is exactly what you’re going to get.” She looked like an angel—one that had had its wings clipped. He wasn’t sure what gave him that impression, but the long white dress was opposite of everything he’d found the woman to be in the short time they’d known each other. She was wild and impulsive and free. She wasn’t…this virginal almost-bride. He didn’t like the change. He didn’t like it one bit. “Sit your ass down. I’ll get us drinks, and then you’re telling me what the fuck is going on.”
“Don’t hold your breath on that.”
He wouldn’t have to. She might be prickly as all get out, but she wanted to talk. She wouldn’t have called him otherwise. The bartender met him halfway, a nervous little mouse of a guy. James made an effort to speak softly because the man looked half a second from pissing himself at the idea of a Halloran in his bar. “Whiskey for me. Dirty martini for the lady.”
He made his way back to where Carrigan had picked a booth. Ignoring the empty side, he slid in next to her.
The bartender appeared with their drinks, and James waited for him to scurry away before he spoke again. “Talk to me. I can’t help you if I don’t know what’s wrong.”
“No one can help me.”
The raw pain in her voice made him want to comfort her, but that was one skill James had never learned. Maybe if his mother had lived…But there was no room in this world for “what if” and “maybe.” So he did the one thing that he knew how to do. The single thing guaranteed to distract her.
He kissed her.
Carrigan went rigid for half a second, but he waited, his lips on hers, and let her choose. That hesitation was all it took for her to melt, turning to fire in his arms. He wanted to haul her against him, to let this feeling consume him until none of the bullshit mattered anymore. Right now, in this moment, there was only her. They could be the last two people in the world for all he gave a fuck. Hell, part of him hoped they were. As her tongue stroked his, a small, treacherous thought wormed into his brain and took root.
With this woman by my side, I’d be content to let the rest of the world burn.

About The Author beige

Katee RobertsNew York Times and USA Today bestselling author, Katee Robert, learned to tell stories at her grandpa’s knee. Her favorites then were the rather epic adventures of The Three Bears, but at age twelve she discovered romance novels and never looked back.

Though she dabbled in writing, life got in the way—as it often does—and she spent a few years traveling, living in both Philadelphia and Germany. In between traveling and raising her two wee ones, she had the crazy idea that she’d like to write a book and try to get published.

Her first novel was an epic fantasy that, God willing, will never see the light of day. From there, she dabbled in YA and horror, before finally finding speculative romance. Because, really, who wouldn’t want to write entire books about the smoking-hot relationships between two people?

She now spends her time—when not lost in Far Reach worlds—playing imaginary games with her wee ones, writing, ogling men, and planning for the inevitable zombie apocalypse.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date April 19, 2016

He’s the golden boy with a secret past

When Nicole Adams abruptly cancels their secret fling, Troy Thompson is stunned. The sex between them is sizzling, but she’s ready to move on—find a reliable guy, settle down, pop out a few babies. The thought of Nic in another man’s arms is maddening. And while her agenda freaks him out, Troy knows there’s no one in town nearly good enough for her. No one, that is, except him.

She’s his redemption and his future

Nicole doesn’t regret her sexual romp with Troy, but when he insists on taking the next step with her—marriage and parenthood—she figures he’s out of his mind. Troy? Husband and daddy material? Oh, he’s sexy beyond belief, with the ability to melt her panties with a single command, but the man’s not known for being responsible. Trying for forever with Mr. Frivolous? Everyone thinks it’s a fool’s game- everyone except Troy, who’s determined to make Nicole see the real him under the shiny exterior.

••••••••••••

REVIEW: A WILD RIDE is the fourth (and final ?) installment in Vivian Arend’s contemporary, adult THOMPSON AND SONS erotic, romance series focusing on the four Thompson brothers-a spin off from Vivian’s Rocky Mountain House Series (Six Pack Ranch). This is mechanic Troy Thompson, and Nicole Adams’s story line- a friends to lovers/forbidden romance story that follows our couple from friends with benefits to lovers and more. A WILD RIDE can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Troy and Nicole) A WILD RIDE follows Nicole and Troy from sex partners to being in a committed relationship. For six months our couple has kept secret their ‘liaisons’ from family and friends, including Troy’s best friend/roommate-Mike-Nicole’s older brother and a man who has decreed his sister off limits for the likes of Troy. Troy has always been the good-time Thompson brother, and his reputation with the ladies; his laid back attitude; and his apparent lack of motivation have not endured our story line hero to his or Nicole’s extended family. What ensues is the building of a more permanent relationship while our couple struggle for approval from family and friends.

A WILD RIDE looks at first impressions, family, secrets and truth. Troy is a man who keeps secret the events of the past, and in this, revealing the truth to the woman he loves keeps everything in perspective and shows Nicole that there is more to the story than everyone thought. Troy is a great story line hero; a man who knows what he wants, and is determined to keep Nicole in his life. Nicole’s family is not impressed with her choice of mate, yet our heroine never struggles with her love for Troy. Her family’s constant disregard for the man that Nicole loves finds Nicole on the offensive more times than not.

All of the previous story line couples and characters play secondary and supporting roles throughout the story. We get up close and personal with the growing families, their plans for the future, and Troy and Nicole’s growing love for one another. We are introduced to Nicole’s extended family, and there are some issues with regard to their acceptance of Troy, and his undeserved reputation.

A WILD RIDE has moments of humor and fun; heartbreak and pain; letting go of the past and moving forward. The $ex scenes are intimate, intense and seductive. The premise is entertaining, sexy and fun; the characters are charismatic and colorful; the romance is a well deserved happily ever after. A WILD RIDE is worth the price of admission.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date April 19, 2016

The last thing Vaughan Hewson expects to find when he returns to his childhood home is a broken hearted bride in his shower, let alone the drama and chaos that comes with her.

Lydia Green doesn’t know whether to burn down the church or sit and cry in a corner. Discovering the love of your life is having an affair on your wedding day is bad enough. Finding out it’s with his best man is another thing all together. She narrowly escapes tying the knot and meets Vaughan only hours later.

Vaughan is the exact opposite of the picture perfect, respected businessman she thought she’d marry. This former musician-turned-bartender is rough around the edges and unsettled. But she already tried Mr. Right and discovered he’s all wrong-maybe it’s time to give Mr. Right Now a chance.

After all, what’s wrong with getting dirty?

•••••••••••••••••••

REVIEW:   DIRTY is the first installment in Kylie Scott’s contemporary, adult DIVE BAR rocker, romance series- a spin off from her popular Stage Dive series. This is musician/bartender Vaughan Hewson, and real estate agent Lydia Green’s story line. You do not have to have read the original series to understand or follow DIRTY.

Told from first person point of view (Lydia) DIRTY follows Lydia- a runaway bride- who finds herself hiding in Vaughan Hewson’s tub. On her wedding day, Lydia is sent a video of her soon to be husband sexing it up with his best man, and instead of confronting the man she is about to marry, Lydia tucks tail and runs for the hills. Only Lydia doesn’t get too far, and breaks into the neighbor’s house where she comes face to face with the ‘prettiest’ man she has ever met. Enter Vaughn Hewson-home owner- and the man who would make all of Lydia’s dreams come true.

The Dive Bar is the local bar where friends meet, musicians play, and all around chaos ensues. Vaughn’s sister Nell is the co-owner of The Dive Bar, and is currently hoping for a quick infusion of cash but Vaughn’s band split when the lead vocalist went solo, and Vaughn isn’t in any position to help out his sister. What ensues is the building relationship between Vaughn and Lydia, and their interim positions working at Nell’s Dive Bar.

DIVE BAR has a large ensemble of secondary and supporting characters including Vaughn’s sister Nell, her ex husband and tattoo artist Pat, as well as Nell’s staff of Andre, Joe, Masa and Eric. Eric is a piece of work-a manwhore who has found his way into his boss’s pant. Mal Ericson (Stage Dive) makes an appearance allowing for many swoon worthy moments and several sighs.

There is quite a bit of humorous banter as per Kylie Scott’s writing style as well as a number of heartbreaking scenarios when Lydia and Vaughn place an expiry date on their relationship.

The world building focuses on The Dive Bar-the people, the atmosphere, the behind the scenes affairs and $ex lives. The story line is fast paced, and smooth flowing. The sexual tension between Lydia and Vaughn is heightened by the playful sexual banter between our couple.

DIRTY is a sexy read with lighthearted humor, and fascinating characters. The premise is spirited and oft times melodramatic; the characters are animated, colorful, hopeful and intense; the romance is a quick build to a happily ever after. Kylie Scott adds another dimension to her rock romance series with a look at the people a The Dive Bar.

“Once upon a time,” he began, voice low and measured. “There was a princess. A beautiful, occasionally annoying princess.”

“What was her name?”

“Ah, Notlydia.”

I frowned. “Her name is Notlydia?”

“You wanted a story, I’m giving you one. Shut up.”

“Whatever.”

An even heavier sigh from the man. “Anyhoo, Notlydia was all set up to marry this prince. We’ll call him Prince Bag of Dicks.”

“Works for me.”

“But on the day of her wedding, when she was wearing this sweet dress that served her tits up like they were a fucking platter—”

“Is this an R-rated story?”

“Please,” he said, sliding an arm around my bare waist. And I let him. “R is for rubbish. If you don’t get to see any penetration then you’re wasting your time. This is XXX.”

I laughed.

“So on the day of her wedding to Prince Bag of Dicks, Notlydia kisses him and he turns into a big slimy two-headed toad with terrible breath and even worse foot odor.”

“Whoa.” I rested my head back against his shoulder. “Poor Notlydia.”

“Hell of a plot twist, right?”

“Never saw that one coming.”

“Mm.” He rested his cheek against the top of my head.

“What happens next?”

“Well, she’s completely freaked out, of course.”

“Of course.”

“And she takes off into the woods. She’s running through bushes, jumping fences, climbing trees, you name it. Nothing’s going to stop her from getting the hell away from that toad, Prince Bag of

Dicks.” He took a sip of beer. “Unfortunately, she loses her fancy dress along the way. She’s just down to some skimpy underwear and a corset and with all that jogging through the forest, it’s barely holding her in. One decent breath and there’s going to be nipple out there for all the world to see.

Did I happen to mention she’d been voted Best Rack in the kingdom four years running? Anyway, eventually she finds this small cottage. Now, what you don’t know about Notlydia is that she has a shady past.”I tried to look up at him. But with the angle, all I got was stubble and cheekbone. “That doesn’t sound like Notlydia.”

“Be quiet.” A hand covered my mouth. “Notlydia’s a dirty, dirty girl. Got a bad side like you wouldn’t believe. A little breaking and entering is nothing to her. So into the house she goes. But she’s all muddy from running through the woods, see? She can’t let people see her like this, she’s a princess, for fuck’s sake.”

The hand remained over my mouth. Which was fine, I had nothing to add to his pornographic fairy tale.

“Notlydia gets in the shower and starts soaping herself. There’s lots of bubbles and steam, and she’s a modern woman so there’s a bit of self-love. She even finds time to wash her hair, shave under her pits. Things like that. But then the owner of the cottage wakes up and hears the water running. He stomps into the bathroom saying, someone’s using up my hot water. Notlydia cries out, not me, not me.”

He craned his neck, meeting my gaze. “See, babe, what did I tell you? That Notlydia is a filthy little liar.”

I looked up to heaven. No help was forthcoming.

“Someone’s using up all my soap, says the owner. Not me, not me, cries Notlydia.” He put his lips next to my ear. “She should be ashamed of herself, shouldn’t she? If ever a busty princess deserved a spanking.”

I bit at the palm of his hand, teeth catching at the fleshy mound beneath his thumb.

“Ow.” He laughed, pulling his hand free. “Then the owner said, someone’s been fingering herself in my shower.”

“Stop!” I put my hands over my ears, trying desperately to hold in my laughter. “This is the worst story ever. The Brothers Grimm are rolling over in their graves.”

“Notlydia throws back the shower curtain and says, oh yeah, big boy, that was me. Come and get it. And they have wild sex all over the cottage.” Vaughan’s body jerked beneath mine as he laughed his ass off. “The end.”

“No way. Notlydia is virtuous and pure. She’d never pull that sort of shit.”

“Nah.” He chuckled. “It all happened exactly as I said. Dirtiest princess in all the land.”

“Like hell. The owner of that cottage was a pervert and a deviant. Why, he would have picked the lock on a chastity belt. She never stood a chance.” Difficult to maintain my pious stance, given I’d started laughing so hard tears were pouring down my cheeks. The funny bastard. “I want to know more about this cottage owner. What’s his name?”

“I don’t know. Let me think . . .” He rested his chin back on top of my head. “He definitely isn’t Prince Charming.”

“He could be!”

Silence.

“If he wanted to. Or not. Whatever,” I added weakly. Crap. “Let’s go back to not talking.”

I was a moron.

We’d been all relaxed and laughing. Me and my idiot mouth. Way to go, Lydia. Just shout out any old impossible daydream to the dude who’s made it clear there was no future “we.” If someone could just direct me to the nearest brick wall, I’d knock a little sense into myself. On the other hand, it was two stupid words. Surely he could have ignored the last hundred years of Disney perpetuating slick-haired young royals gallivanting around the countryside saving hot babes in distress. For the sake of getting along. God knows, Chris never had any problems ignoring or placating me. I’d seen his thoughtless gorgeous smile aimed my way a hundred times. No, a thousand. If only I’d recognized it for what it was.

Ugh. Just the thought of it made me want to punch the douche all over again.

Maybe I needed a bit more than a week to get over that catastrophe. The money would help. Substantially. I’d never imagined that compromising my morals and taking hush money from such foul woe-begotten assholes would feel so good. Maybe I should sell out more often.

“This, ah, this Prince Charming of yours,” he said haltingly.

“Yes?”

Vaughan shifted beneath me, pushing out a heavy breath. “I mean, it doesn’t make sense, does it? Why would he be in a cottage instead of a castle?”

“Well . . . his parents, the king and queen of the neighboring kingdom, died in a terrible accident.”

I stayed perfectly still, waiting to see how he’d react.

“I see.”

“And it hurt him so bad he just, he didn’t want to be a prince anymore.”

Nothing from him.

“Bad things happen in fairy tales sometimes.”

A grunt.

“It’s not fair, but it happens,” I said, feeling my way with more caution than skill. “The prince loved his parents and the castle had too many memories.”

“Hmm.”

“So he ran away into the woods too.”

“Doesn’t sound like much of a prince if he can’t handle his shit,” he said.

“Princes are just men too, human beings. I don’t think a crown or a penis gives you magical invulnerability to loss and pain.” I stared at the wall, thinking the problem through. “Life is hard.

Terrible things happen. We all have feelings. We’re all just flesh and blood, trying to do our best.”

“Running away from problems isn’t doing your best.” His voice echoed around the small room, the same as around in my head.

What with holding the Coeur d’Alene title for runaway bride of the year, I had no answer. None at all. So much for my half-assed wisdom.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date March 15, 2016

For years, Luke Elliot has been a respectable businessman. But he’s also had a secret life no one knows, and he’s given that up to settle down completely. But when his world is torn apart by tragedy, he flees in despair from all that could evoke painful memories for a fresh start in another part of the country. And there he meets the beautiful and mysterious Jessica Morrow, who is also trying to escape from a past she can’t face. As they become close, and Luke finally discovers what her backstory is, he realizes their fateful meeting could end up getting both of them killed. Paths that began in Chicago and San Diego, with stops along the way in Santa Fe and Philadelphia, converge in Seattle, where a deadly cat-and-mouse game ensues, forcing Luke to call upon his lethal skills once more to save himself and the woman he loves.

••••••

REVIEW:  HOW LITTLE WE KNOW by John L.DeBoer is a contemporary, adult suspense story line that focuses on former hitman Luke Elliott, and Jessica Morrow, a woman on the run from an abusive ex, but a woman in hiding from a boss with close connections to the mob. The reader was first introduced to Luke in John’s lsat release SKELETON RUN. Seattle seemed like a good place to settle down and get on with her life when Jessica meets pizzeria owner Luke Elliott, whose business partner is too close to Jessica’s past. When the mob discovers Jessica’s location, the truth about her past will have to be revealed when more than one person is looking to take Jessica down.

HOW LITTLE WE KNOW is a story of mystery and suspense, intrigue and duplicity, secrets and lies. Jessica is a woman whose past is mired in abuse, murder, and ten years hiding from the police and local authorities. Luke Elliott is a former sniper in the military; a former hitman for hire; and a businessman who wants nothing better than to settle down with his pizzeria and a beautiful woman in his arms. When Jessica’s life is threatened, Luke finds himself, once again, on the frontlines trying to protect the people he loves.

The world building focuses on starting a new life, far from the threats and memories of the past. We learn a little bit about Jessica’s former life, and a little bit of Luke’s recent past. There is a larger focus on the hunt for Jessica Morrow-the woman, the men and the mob who are all trying to find Jessica-one way or another.

There is a large ensemble cast of secondary and supporting characters including several members of the criminal underground, guns for hire, the US Marshal’s office, undercover investigators, and employees of the WITSEC program-the US federal witness protection program. It is here where the story line gets muddy and slightly unbelievable when our heroine’s cover is blown –not once, but twice-and yet she is willing to remain in the same location, with the same name, without any extended coverage, plans to relocate or notify the people in charge. Jessica’s lack of worry and alarm are disconcerting. Not only has her past come back from the dead but the mob wants to silence our story line heroine as well.

John L. DeBoer takes the reader on an intense ride of family secrets and dangerous lies-where one woman struggles to escape from her past only to come face to face with a threat more perilous and dark. The premise is intriguing and gripping; the characters are charismatic, colorful and compelling; the suspense is dramatic and bold.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date April 19, 2016

Lee Delgado never planned on falling in love with the irresistible Oliver Savoca, son of a Chicago crime lord. Considering that their families are rivals, she knew it could never work. And now that both their fathers have been nabbed on racketeering charges, any real chance at a future with the man she loves has been shot to hell. But a greater blow is yet to come.

Not only does Lee learn that a contract is out on her life, she has reason to believe that Oliver is behind the devastating betrayal. Now she’s working closely—very closely—with Federal Agent Wes Buchanan to help bring her man down. But however she’s come to feel about Callahan, Lee is still deeply, hopelessly, unabashedly in love with Oliver.

Where that fearless love takes Lee next is beyond her control—but the risk is worth every beat of her heart.

•••••••

REVIEW: OVER THE LINE is the second installment in Lisa Desrochers contemporary, adult ON THE RUN romantic suspense series focusing on the Delgado (aka Davidson) siblings. This is Lee Delgado, and Oliver Savoca’s story line. OVER THE LINE can be read as a stand alone but I recommend reading the series in order for backstory and history.

SOME BACKGROUND: Lisa Desrochers ON THE RUN series focuses on the once powerful and rich Delgado family-five siblings, in witness protection, whose father, currently in jail, is the head of one of the most powerful crime families in Chicago. After an attack that was intended to kill the family, the Delgado children –ages 9 to 25 years-are relocated to Florida with a new identity while their father continues to control things behind bars.

Told from alternating first person points of view (Lee and Oliver) OVER THE LINE follows the rekindling of a forbidden relationship between Lee Delgado and Oliver Savoca. The Delgado and Savoca families are rivals in the Chicago underground crime scene, and part of the reason the Delgado family is now in the Witness Protection program-far away from their father’s rival and the syndicate he runs. When Oliver Savoca locates the woman who stole more than his heart, the Delgado family find themselves preparing to run once again.

OVER THE LINE is a story line told using memories from the past and present day focusing on the previous relationship between Lee and Oliver; their need to uncover family secrets, to destroy one another’s lives, and a love that has never faltered between two college sweethearts. As Oliver finds himself facing down his potential future, the Delgado family faces a choice no one wants to make. Lee has something that Oliver needs to stay alive, but Lee isn’t willing to place her family in the direct line of fire-again.

The relationship between Lee and Oliver, both past and present, should never have happened, or been allowed. Oliver’s position and re-entry into the Delgado’s lives has placed everyone in danger, and Lee is more than willing to give Oliver a second chance even if it means losing her family in the process. I have to question some of the irresponsible actions of the story line heroine that made for some problematic moments and potentially controversial situations for her and her family-she is a woman whose earlier actions may have resulted in the present danger they are now facing….. but as I have said before, the story is meant to entertain, and I was ….entertained.

All of the previous story line characters, including the Delgado siblings, play a secondary and supporting role throughout. I am still having some issues with the eldest sibling Rob, and his treatment of his girlfriend Adri (Outside the Lines #1). Rob is so fixated on keeping the Delgado family safe, that Adri is constantly on the outside looking in, and the first to be thrown to the curb when something goes wrong.

OVER THE LINE is a slow build as Oliver and Lee find themselves fighting the push and pull of their earlier love. There is a slight ‘love triangle’ developing that our heroine continues to perpetuate throughout the story line, and this is problematic on so many levels. The world building continues to focus on the Delgado siblings, and their new lives in in the Witness Protection program. The premise is entertaining and impassioned; the characters are colorful and intense; the romance is passionate and hopeful. OVER THE LINE is an enjoyable and suspense filled read.

Over the Line Teaser

excerpt

I want Lee to know, no matter where she goes, I will find her.
At the thought of her betrayal, rage rises up and wraps like an iron cloak around my heart, threatening to crush any bit of humanity left there. I close my eyes and hold my breath until it passes.
And I see her as she was before everything that came after—that first day of business law class at Kellogg, nearly two years ago.
She was starting her first year. I was in my second. I was already seated near Angela Bagglio, who I had a passing interest in due to her loose family ties to the Delgado organization. Her brother was a wiseguy wannabe, little more than a glorified gofer within the Delgado machine. But I’d discovered, sometimes it was the smallest details that led to the largest victories.
When Lee Delgado sashayed into the classroom, I’d like to say I was unaffected. I’d like to believe I was in complete control of everything that happened then and after.
But I’d be kidding myself.
Her bright hazel eyes surveyed the room, and when they caught for a second as they passed over me, I felt a shift in gravity itself. There were times reading nuances in expressions and actions was all that came between me and a slug in my head. That hitch in her perusal of the room left no doubt she was aware who I was.
From that second on, I was helpless to take my eyes off her.
Her sandy brown waves cascaded over the shoulders of her cream-colored silk blouse to an open collar that hung loose, revealing a hint of cleavage. Her burgundy pencil skirt hugged the round curves of her hips and ass and ended above the knee, giving me a glimpse of a pair of toned thighs and calves. She had a killer body and knew it. I had to respect a woman who knew her strengths and wasn’t afraid to use them to her advantage.
She took a seat in my row, but on the opposite side of the classroom. I was barely coherent when the professor started lecturing. I couldn’t tell you the first thing he said.
As she listened, she lifted a hand and combed through her waves with her fingers, separating out a strand and twirling it around her finger. A rush shuddered from my tailbone up my spine to my brain, and even though I had no clue why, that was the moment I knew I wasn’t going to be able to stay away.
The rest, as they say, is history.
If she thinks she can hide from me, she’s got another thing coming.
Mob controlled gambling has always been a huge racket, with better payouts because we don’t pay taxes like the legal betting sites. Back in the day, bookies were involved and actual cash changed hands. Now nearly everything is electronic. Bets are collected directly from our clients’ online accounts and payouts are distributed back into them. Payout is calculated after each event based on outcome versus the spread. It’s one of the parts of my job that I truly enjoy. I’m always in the program, tweaking and modifying. But, suddenly, the week before Christmas, two days after Lee and I returned from our weekend in Aspen, I noticed the spread didn’t factor anymore and our payouts went through the roof. I thought maybe I’d screwed something up and tried to get into the program to check it. Ended up throwing my laptop against the wall when my pass code wouldn’t get me in.
It took me the next two days, and the fact that Lee wasn’t answering my texts or calls, to put together what had happened. Though I’m not sure exactly how she managed it, I know it had to have been her who hacked into my program and changed the payout ratios. I’ve looked at it from every angle and there are no other feasible possibilities. And it makes sense. I had an ulterior motive when we started hooking up, and I had no doubt she had one of her own. But as we got deeper into each other, things shifted and I lost focus. I let down my guard and gave her too much, and she took advantage of the opening.
I knew I wouldn’t be seeing her over the holidays because her siblings were all coming back to the family home in Wilmette, just outside of Chicago, for Christmas. It took me another day to decide I had no choice but to go there.
But when I got to the house, the place was swarming with cops and Feds, and yellow police tape was strung across the pillars at the front door. The reports the next day said it was believed the Delgados had fled to Europe after a “gangland style attack” on their home.
The online gambling leg of our business has been bleeding cash at the rate of nearly a hundred grand a month since Lee fucked with the program. Every month it gets worse as word spreads of our big payouts. The guy who designed and encrypted the program is dead; a casualty of my father’s wrath when he made the mistake of telling Victor he’d corrected a system glitch that had cost us a couple hundred grand over the first year of implementation. I’ve done everything I can to break Lee’s pass code, but considering the illegal nature of the account, and the fact that I couldn’t enlist anyone who might report back to Victor what happened, my resources to resolve the issue have been severely limited.
So I put my time and energy into another avenue. Finding Lee.
Like everyone else in Chicago, I assumed that my father was responsible for the contract on Lee and her family. I talked to his guys. Tried to see if any of them had a bead on the Delgados’ location. I couldn’t find anyone who was even looking.
So, as much as I dreaded it, I went straight to the source.
I was dead to my father. He’d made that clear. But that day, for the first time since I’d crossed him, Victor looked at me with pride in his eyes when he asked, “You purchase that special delivery for our friends up in Wilmette?”
And that’s when I knew it wasn’t us. It’s also when I knew I was a dead man unless I could find a way out of this mess on my own.
So I looked harder for Lee, dug a little deeper into the Delgado family tree. I didn’t find her, but I managed to stumble on some other useful information during my search. And then, finally, the stroke of luck that led me here: Rob showing up in Chicago.
I’ve been able to keep everything under the rug since she left, but underground betting has always been the Savoca business’s bread and butter. If Victor or anyone else in the organization discovers the hemorrhage of cash that our gambling ring has become, it’s my head my loving pop will want on a spike.
I told the guys I had some personal business in Vegas; gave Al a direct order to park his ass at my apartment and not to move until I got back. I took a flight to Vegas, and from there, traveled to Florida on an ID I pinched off of a guy we rolled in Little Italy for not making book. He’s dead now, courtesy of Al, so he won’t be divulging my alter ego to anyone.
My family doesn’t know this particular alias. They’d have a hard time tracking me. Once I find Lee, things should move pretty fast. But I have to find her first.
So here I am.

Fear Dreams

About the book: Release Date March 28, 2016

Liddy Barron, an artist, was injured in a hit-and-run accident that left her with recurring nightmares, gaps in her memory, and an increasing obsession in the disappearance of a coed named Sasha Perry. Insecure and nervous, Liddy’s turmoil grows as she begins seeing ghostly images. Her husband Paul tries to help but suspects it’s just her imagination…while intuitive Detective Kerri Blasco, also obsessed with young Sasha’s disappearance, senses that Liddy may have a key to solving the case, and tries to unravel the shocking truth of what really haunts her.

Review:

Fear Dreams begins with Liddy trying to get back to a normal life after a devastating accident that left her both physically and emotionally damaged. As she turns to her art to help her cope, she mysteriously sketches a young woman, whom she’s sure she’s never met, but is almost compelled to do so. As her dreams become more prevalent, so much so that she starts to question everything, she goes to Detective Kerri Blasco. (Kerri is a character Schneider’s readers are familiar with that is a prominent character in Schneider’s Embryo series) Upon seeing the sketch and listening to Liddy, Kerry starts to believe that Liddy may hold a missing key that she has no idea she holds.

Once they start down the path of trying to figure everything out and piece things together, they have no idea what’s ahead of them. Does Liddy indeed hold the key, or are her dreams just that… fear dreams?

Fear Dreams is another suspenseful story by J.A. Schneider that will keep you guessing until the end. She has always done a great job with the twists and turns in her books, and this is no exception. If you’re looking for a quick read full of twists and turns and nicely developed characters, you cannot go wrong with one of Schneider’s books. Well done, J.A. Schneider!

REVIEW: RIDE HARD is the first full-length installment in Laura Kaye’s contemporary adult RAVEN RIDERS MC erotic, romance series focusing on the men and women of Raven Riders MC. This is Club president Dare Kenyon, and Haven Randall’s story line. There is a prequel novella-HARD AS STEEL– that can be found in the 1001 Dark Nights multi authored novella series. The Raven Riders is a spin off from Laura’s Hard Ink series.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Dare and Haven) RIDE HARD follows Haven Randall, and her best friend Cora-on the run. Haven has had to endure years of abuse and neglect at the hands of her father-a small time crime lord who had plans for his only child. When Haven and Cora ran, they found themselves prisoners of the Church Gang MC, only to be rescued by the Hard Ink warriors, and finally finding asylum with the Raven Riders MC. What ensues is a building relationship between Dare and Haven, and the Raven Riders’ struggle to ensure Haven and Cora’s future safety. With an inflated price on her head, Haven becomes the number one target in a war between rival MCs.

Dare is a bit of an enigma-he is the Raven Rider Club president-a tough alpha male-who finds himself falling for the quiet and reserved Haven Randall. Haven is a woman who presents as weak, fragile and demure-her earlier years are fraught with abuse at the hands of her father and his men; she has been witness to all number of atrocities and evil. We learn a little bit about their pasts: the darkness, the damage and the heartbreaking losses. The relationship between Haven and Dare is one of immediate attraction but Dare believes their age difference is too wide to overcome, and that her presumed innocence is not for his taking. When Dare finds Haven’s ‘bucket list’ of things to do, he is the man who is going to make all of Haven’s wishes come true. The $ex scenes are intimate and intense. For someone with little experience Haven is a woman who knows how to please her man.

RIDE HARD is a slow building storyline where two women find refuge and comfort with a motorcycle club that is all about helping those who are unable to help themselves. The Raven Riders fight against abuse and neglect, and protect the woman and children who have suffered at the hands of abusive men. RIDE HARD is a bit of a vanilla MC, in that most of the violence and action takes place behind the scenes. The conflict resolution was quick-I was hoping for something more powerful and dark. There are a couple of familiar scenarios that may pay homage to Laura’s favorite author (whether intentional or not)- the similarity and resemblance to the other story line has been noted by this reader. RIDE HARD is a wonderful and exciting start to a new series.

excerpt

I’m thrilled to be celebrating the release of my 25th novel, Ride Hard, the first book in my Raven Riders Motorcycle Club series about a new kind of MC with a protective mission. You might’ve first met the Ravens in the Hard Ink world, but this series stands on its own and is even sexier, edgier, and grittier! I can’t wait for you to get to know Dare, Haven, and everyone in the Raven world! And see down below for a giveaway and a bonus story offer! I hope you enjoy this excerpt from the book!

One minute Dare was standing on the beach, trying to keep himself from giving in to Haven’s innocent playfulness. The next he was wet from forehead to knees from Haven splashing him.
She actually splashed him.His reaction was pure instinct. He took off like a shot, bolting toward her like a wild animal after its prey. Haven’s beautiful face went from uncertain to startled to amused, and on a scream and a laugh she turned and ran, her feet kicking up water as she cut through the shallows at the secluded lake’s edge.

“I’m sorry, I’m sorry,” she yelled between laughs.

Dare just ran faster, not even caring as his boots hit the water. She didn’t have a chance in hell of outrunning him, and he wasn’t giving up the chase until he had her in his arms—and made her pay.

A burst of laughter exploded out of her as she veered back and forth, pleading words spilling haltingly from her lips. And then Dare clasped his arms around her upper body, hauled her in against him, and took them both down to the sand right at the water’s edge. He turned his body so that he took the brunt of the fall, bringing Haven down on top of him. The chase and the challenge and the closeness had him rock hard in an instant. Not surprising, since he’d been sporting a semi since she’d straddled his bike, spread her legs around him, and taken him into her arms.

“You splashed me,” he said, eyebrow arched, hand fisted around the long braid in her hair.

Wearing a grin so open and carefree that it made his chest feel suddenly too small for his heart, Haven nodded. “Oops.”

“You think that’s funny?” he asking, growing harder as she shifted her weight, making her belly grind against his hard-on.

A small gasp of recognition, and she bit down on her lip as the cast of her eyes went from playful to aroused. “A little,” she said in a breathy voice. She licked her lips. Dare couldn’t help but track the movement, and want to suck the trail of moisture she left there off the plump, pink skin.

What the fuck was he doing?

Haven’s hands gripped his shoulders, and she subtly shifted her weight again, pulling herself up his body—just a little, but enough that her lower belly now pressed and thrust against his cock. And Jesus if the need blazing out of those bright blue eyes wasn’t crystal clear.

For a split second, Dare thought of Haven’s list of things she’d never experienced, her lie of omission, the expression she’d worn on her face when he’d made her come before. And what he wanted to do ran roughshod over what he should do.

Startling a high-pitched gasp from her, Dare flipped their positions so that she lay in the soft sand and his body lay partially over hers. With his forehead against hers, he nailed her with a stare. “You sure you want to provoke me?”
