ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date April to May 2016

Harper McFaddan has made her name as an investigative journalist by being both compassionate and fearless. After tragedy strikes her family, she moves to the shores of Lake Tahoe to find some peace. But when mysterious software mogul Jacob Latimer comes into her life, her thoughts turn from her own healing to an urgent need to get closer to him…

Jacob Latimer is the definition of a self-made man. The software entrepreneur built his corporation from nothing, but rumors abound about the shadiness of his rise to power and no one knows what secrets lurk in his past. Harper is the last person he should let into his life. As an investigative journalist, she’s the one person who could expose his hidden origins. But Jacob knows things about Harper’s past that make him irresistibly drawn to her. He wants nothing more than to make her his—and Jacob is a man who always gets what he wants…

REVIEW: MAKE ME (releasing as an eight part serial April through May 2016) by Beth Kery is a stand alone, erotic, romance story line focusing on billionaire Jacob Latimer, and investigative journalist/editor Harper McFaddan. I was gifted the entire series and I am posting my review for the complete work.

Told from dual third person points of view using memories, flashbacks, dreams and present day MAKE ME follows the building relationship between Jacob Latimer and Harper McFaddan-a second chance of sorts-for two people whose lives, almost two decades earlier, intertwined their heart and souls.

Harper McFaddan recently moved to Tahoe Shores from San Francisco to start a new chapter in her life (following the death of her parents) but meeting reclusive billionaire Jacob Latimer finds our heroine caught between wanting to move forward and being pulled into the past. Jacob Latimer is a software entrepreneur whose secrets run deep; and little to nothing is known about his past. What ensues is a slow building romance between Jacob and Harper, as Jacob struggles with revealing the truth to the woman who calls to his soul.

MAKE ME is a sexually aggressive and graphic storyline with scenarios of bondage, rope play, and anal $ex that may be issues for some sensitive readers. Jacob is a man who likes control both in and out of the boardroom, and finds himself needing to claim Harper as his own. His fears of ‘losing’ Harper cause many anxious moments for a man whose reputation is cold and aloof. But little do most people know that Jacob is a man who has a need to protect those who cannot protect themselves.

The majority of the story line focuses on the relationship between Harper and Jacob interspersed with a series of flashbacks and dreams that will trigger memories from the past. We are introduced to Jacob’s inner circle-the people who know him best-yet the same people who know nothing about the boy he once was.

MAKE ME is an imaginative and spirited story line about betrayal and loss; grief and heartbreak; falling in love and letting go of the past. The premise is dramatic; the characters are captivating and intense; the romance is a slow build of passion, desire, wants and needs. MAKE ME is an erotic tale about fated lovers whose lives were destroyed by a single moment in time, but brought together for a second chance at forever and love.

ABOUT THE BOOK: April 11, 2016

It started out like any other morning on the train.

Until I became mesmerized by the guy sitting across the aisle.

He was barking at someone on his phone like he ruled the world.

Who did the stuck-up suit think he was…God?

Actually, he looked like a God. That was about it.

When his stop came, he got up suddenly and left. So suddenly, he dropped his phone on the way out.

I might have picked it up.

I might have gone through all of his photos and called some of the numbers.

I might have held onto the mystery man’s phone for days—until I finally conjured up the courage to return it.

When I traipsed my ass across town to his fancy company, he refused to see me.

So, I left the phone on the empty desk outside the arrogant jerk’s office.

I might have also left behind a dirty picture on it first though.

I didn’t expect him to text back.

I didn’t expect our exchanges to be hot as hell.

I didn’t expect to fall for him—all before we even met.

The two of us couldn’t have been any more different.

Yet, you know what they say about opposites.

When we finally came face to face, we found out opposites sometimes do more than attract—we consumed each other.

Nothing could have prepared me for the ride he took me on. And I certainly wasn’t prepared for where I’d wind up when the ride was over.

All good things must come to an end, right?

Except our ending was one I didn’t see coming.

REVIEW: STUCK UP SUIT is a contemporary, adult, erotic romance stand alone story line co-authored by Vi Keeland and Penelope Ward. This is successful businessman Graham Morgan, and personal assistant Soraya Venedetta’s story line. There is a slight cross over with Vi and Penelope’s COCKY BASTARD.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Graham and Soraya) STUCK UP SUIT follows the building relationship between Graham Morgan and Soraya Vendetta who meet when Graham accidentally loses his cell phone on the morning commute. When Soraya ‘tries’ to return the cell phone to Graham, the snarly and angry businessman refuses to acknowledge her existence or the fact that she returned his personal property. Leaving Graham a few personal camera images on his phone, Soraya walks away hoping to never hear from the pr*ck again. What ensues is Graham’s attempt to win Soraya at any cost while her presence in his life, changes our hero into a different man.

STUCK UP SUIT focuses on family, betrayal and heartbreak. While Graham tries to get Soraya to open up about her life, Graham himself is about to discover that there are secrets in his past he knew nothing about. There are several moments of humor and fun, as well as the emotional fall out of betrayal and grief.

The world building focuses on the relationship between Soraya and Graham-his need for the woman that calls to his heart; and Soraya’s need to let go of the past. When Graham’s past comes looking for a second chance, Soraya is willing to step away so history doesn’t repeat itself-again.

STUCK UP SUIT is a wonderful and brilliant read with a fascinating group of characters and a premise that is emotional, funny, heartbreaking and inspiring- a great blend of everything you could want in a romance story. The characters are colorful, energetic and often tender; the romance is passionate, sensual and intense.

excerpt

Outside of the restaurant, Graham’s black car was already curbside. He must have had it waiting and called the driver when I went to the restroom.
“If you’re not going to come home with me, I insist on at least giving you a ride home to your place.”
“The subway is right around the corner. I’m good.”
He shot me an annoyed glance. “Give a little, Soraya. It’s a ride home, not a ride on my cock. And I think you know by now that I’m not a serial killer.”
“You’re so crass.”
He put his hand on the small of my back and steered me to the waiting open car door. I didn’t put up a fight. Graham was right, I was being stubborn while he had pretty much agreed to anything I demanded. Something told me it was a rare occasion when the man was this flexible.
When we arrived at my apartment, Graham walked me to the door.
“When will I see you again?”
“Well, tomorrow is Saturday, so I suppose maybe Monday on the train.”
“Have dinner with me again tomorrow?”
“I have plans.”
His jaw flexed. “With whom?”
We embarked into a lengthy stare off. His gaze was hard. When neither of us gave for a few minutes, he grumbled Christ under his breath, and before I realized what was happening, my back was against the door, and his mouth was on mine.
He kissed me as if he wanted to eat me alive. Before releasing my mouth, he took my lower lip between his teeth and tugged. Hard. With his lips vibrating up against mine, he spoke. “Don’t push me to my limit, Soraya.”
“Why? What will happen?”
“I’ll push back. And I’m trying not to do that with you.”
He was being honest, and I realized I should appreciate that. “To my sister’s house. It’s my niece’s birthday party. That’s where I’m going tomorrow night.
He nodded. “Thank you.”
It took every bit of my willpower to go inside and shut the door behind me. I leaned my back against the door, unable to remember the last time I was so hot and bothered. Maybe not ever. His mouth was sinful; the thought of what he could do with that wicked tongue other places on my body kept me in a state of arousal that bordered on frenzied. But it was more than that. The way he was so dominating and controlling, yet exercised restraint to respect my wishes, was the sexiest thing I’d ever seen. The man stimulated something that had been sleeping inside of me. I needed a glass of wine and an orgasm. Not necessarily in that order. If I was going be firm on my stance that we get to know each other and not have sex, then taking things into my own hands was absolutely essential.
In my bedroom, I stripped out of my clothes. I didn’t sleep naked every night, but tonight was definitely a bare evening. As I slipped into bed, my cell rang.
“Is phone sex on the table?” Graham’s voice was a needy rasp. Whatever cooling off my body had done since I left him on the other side of the door was instantly reheated. His voice could definitely speed things up for me. But…
“Sex is off the table. That should probably include all types of sex. Intercourse, oral, phone.”
He groaned. “Oral. God, I want to taste you. And feel that metal tongue ring on my cock. You have no idea how difficult it was to control myself tonight every time I caught a glimpse of that metal when you spoke. It’s like you’re taunting me with every word. What are you wearing, Soraya?”
That voice. I needed to record him saying What are you wearing, Soraya? So I could play it over and over again in a loop when I needed to satisfy my own needs. “I’m actually not wearing anything. I just got undressed and slipped into bed.”
“You sleep naked?”
“Sometimes.”
He actually growled. “Touch yourself.”
“I plan to. But I think I’m going to need both hands tonight. So I’m going to hang up first.”
“How long do you plan on driving me crazy, Soraya?”
“Good night, Graham.” I hung up without waiting for him to respond. Even though my body physically ached for the man, I wasn’t ready to open that door with him just yet. Although as I glided my hand down my body alone in my bed, the only thing I could think of was God, I wish it was his hand.

REMEMBERING EVERLY (Lost and Found #2) by J.L.Berg-Review and Book Tour

About the book: Release Date April 5, 2016

After a stunning cliffhanger ending in Forgetting August, USA Today bestselling author J.L. Berg delivers the happily ever after that fans have been waiting for in the sequel, REMEMBERING EVERLY.

He’s forgotten his past, but it hasn’t forgotten him. After losing two years of his life trapped in a coma, August Kincaid will do anything to win back the love of his life. But his past threatens to destroy his second chance at happiness, it’s Everly who is in danger of paying for his crimes.

•••••••••••••

REVIEW: REMEMBERING EVERLY is the second installment in J.L. Berg’s contemporary, adult LOST AND FOUND romantic, suspense duology focusing on August Kincaid, and Everly Adams. REMEMBERING EVERLY should not be read as a stand alone story as it picks up immediately upon the events and ‘cliffhanger’ ending of book one Forgetting August.

Told from dual first person points of view (August and Everly) using present day, and memories from the past, REMEMBERING EVERLY is the continuing story of August Kincaid and Everly Adams. Waking up from a two year coma August finds himself searching for answers-the truth-as to what happened and why. Fast forward to present day wherein August begins to recapture some of his memories, and with it the return of his past. What ensues is August’s attempt to push away the woman that he loves in order to protect her from his past, while Everly tries to get on with her life.

REMEMBERING EVERLY is a second chance romance; a story about two people who love one another but are afraid of what was, and what could be. While August begins to remember the pieces of his life, Everly finds herself pulled in another direction by a different man.

The world building continues to focus on the past as August endeavors to uncover the truth. His past is mired in secrets, lies and betrayal by the man he once considered friend and partner, and it is the process of recovering those memories that places both August and Everly in the direct line of fire.

The first two thirds of REMEMBERING EVERLY is sluggish and somewhat uneventful; it fell very short in the angst and anxiety of the cliffhanger reveal. The focus follows Everly’s preparations for her future, and August’s slide into alcohol, the recovery of his memories, and the regret about his past. The couple is apart for a large portion of the story line. The final third of the book brings Everly and August back together as they search for the truth – setting up a take down with everyone involved. I am a little skeptical and conflicted about the finals events but the book is a story of fiction and its purpose is to entertain, so I was entertained.

REMEMBERING EVERLY is a story of second chances and forgiveness; betrayal and revenge; love and a happily ever after. The premise is interesting but challenging; the characters are impulsive and passionate; the romance is lost to the struggles with the past; the happily ever after reveals a bit of a surprise. If you read FORGETTING AUGUST, you must definitely read REMEMBERING EVERLY to discover the truth about the past.

About the book: Release Date April 5, 2016

Breaking hearts is what wild and rebellious Mason Kincaid does best. Hit it and quit it is his motto, and with his bad boy reputation and tattoos, he doesn’t lack for female companionship. Until one hot night with the one woman he swore he’d never touch becomes an all consuming addiction he can’t kick. Katrina Sands has been his best friend for years, but now that he knows what she feels like, and tastes like, there is no going back to being just friends. Hot, dirty sex has never felt so good…or so right.

•••••••••••••

REVIEW: DIRTY SEXY INKED is the second installment in Carly Phillips and Erika Wilde’s contemporary, adult, DIRTY SEXY erotic, romance series focusing on the Kincaid Brothers-Clay, Mason and Levi. This is tattoo artist/bad boy Mason Kincaid, and his best friend Katrina Sands’ story line. DIRTY SEXY INKED can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story line is revealed where necessary.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Mason and Katrina) DIRTY SEXY INKED is a friends to lovers / unrequited love trope that follows Mason and Katrina to Vegas where the adage of ‘what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas’ must be adhered to. Clay and Samantha’s ( DIRTY SEXY SAINT #1) Vegas wedding finds Mason and Katrina acting on long buried feelings for one another but Mason knows that to get involved with Katrina would mean the destruction of their friendship and probably both of their hearts. Katrina offers up a weekend of sex with no commitment for anything more……

Mason and Katrina have been best friends since the age of fourteen when Mason rescued Katrina from the high school bullies. Mason has always been Katrina’s protector and friend but things have started to change-Mason and Katrina’s emotions and feelings have gone beyond friendship, and neither has acted upon their wants and needs. Mason has always been a manwhore whose reputation with the ladies has hurt his best friend in more ways than one; he is unaware of Katrina’s feelings, and due to his past family history, Mason is unable to trust any woman in his life. What ensues is the push and pull of relationship that is hindered by a lack of communication, a sexy dance on the bar at Coyote Ugly, and the fear of a friendship ruined by sex and a darkened past. The $ex scenes are intimate, erotic and intense. Mason will stake his claim one way or another.

The world building focuses on Mason and Katrina’s pasts; their early years and the damage done by broken homes, abuse and sexual assault. All of the previous story line characters including Mason’s brothers (Clay and Levi) play secondary and supporting roles. Levi’s story will be told next in DIRTY SEXY CUFFED-Levi is a cop with the Chicago PD.

DIRTY SEXY INKED is a quick and very sexy read; an enjoyable tale about best friends and the emotional fall out of their earlier years. The premise is intoxicating; the characters are colorful, energetic and playful; the romance is decadent and impassioned. Carly Phillips and Erika Wilde blend their energy into a fascinating and heartwarming series.

Excerpt Black and Hot Pink

“WE’RE OFF TO Las Vegas, Kitty-Kat,” Mason Kincaid said as he rubbed his hands together in anticipation. “Sin City is the perfect place to get down and dirty and have some fun. What kind of trouble do you think we can get into while we’re there?”
Katrina Sands buckled her seat belt and settled more comfortably in the first-class leather seat next to Mason—her best friend since they were fourteen and freshmen in high school. She wasn’t at all surprised that he was already making a mental list of all the wild and reckless adventures that awaited him in a no-holds-barred place like Las Vegas. Mason Kincaid was a rule breaker, a thrill seeker, and a self-indulgent bad boy who was all about pleasure and instant gratification. From everything she’d heard about the city that never slept, he’d be right in his element.
Oh, joy, she thought with a resigned sigh. It wasn’t as though she was a prude. Far from it. She just wasn’t thrilled about watching her best friend’s man-whoring ways in action in Vegas. She spent enough time seeing it up close and personal on a day-to-day basis.
She turned her head and met Mason’s bright blue gaze. “You do realize that this trip isn’t all about you and your dick, right? That we’re heading to Vegas because your brother Clay is marrying Samantha?” she asked, reminding him of that one important detail.
The corners of his mouth curved with an indulgent grin. “Of course I realize my brother is strapping on the old ball and chain tomorrow afternoon. But that doesn’t mean the entire weekend is going to be all wedding, all the time. In fact, tonight Levi and I plan to take Clay out to make sure he spends his last evening as a bachelor in style.”
Which gave Mason the perfect opportunity to carouse for a willing female to take back to his hotel room for the night. It’s what Mason did. For as long as she’d known him, he’d had a hit-it-and-quit-it motto when it came to women, and he always made sure they knew the score up front. He didn’t make promises or do commitment or anything longer than a one-time fling.
And each time Katrina watched it happen, a little bit of hope died inside of her. The hope that one day Mason would see her as more than just a best friend and the woman who managed to keep his personal and professional shit together. But the man was oblivious to her deeper feelings for him, and she wasn’t willing to tell him and risk certain painful rejection. It was much easier, and safer, keeping them both squarely in the friend zone.
She’d known him for twelve years, and had truly come to believe that Mason Kincaid didn’t have the ability to commit to any single woman. And it really wasn’t hard for her to figure out why considering the kind of childhood he’d had—no father figure to speak of and a mother who cared more about her next fix than her own kids. Mason might be a master at giving off a carefree, I-don’t-give-a-crap attitude, but Katrina was one of the few people who knew just how much pain and resentment that laid-back demeanor really masked.
The commercial plane they were taking to Las Vegas finished the boarding process, and one of the cabin crew started closing the overhead luggage bins, while another made an announcement to set all electronic devices to airplane mode. A pretty brunette flight attendant stopped next to Mason’s aisle seat and set her hand on his shoulder.
He glanced up at her, and the woman smiled, her complexion flushing a bit as he turned all that potent male sex appeal her way. Yeah, Mason had that kind of breathtaking effect on women. Between his gorgeous features, that sexy, panty-dropping smile, and his sleeves of bad boy tattoos that wrapped around both muscled arms, he was an irresistible force to the female gender.
And the jerk knew it, too, and didn’t hesitate to use that charm to his advantage.

Erika Wilde:

Erika Wilde (aka Janelle Denison) is the USA Today bestselling author of over 50 contemporary romances for multiple print publishers.

So, why the new pen name?

As Janelle Denison I’ve always written sexy books, but lately my writing has taken on more erotic elements that I wanted to keep separate for readers because not everyone likes their reading material on the spicier, kinkier side of romance. However, please be assured that even as Erika Wilde, you will still get an emotionally layered story with characters you’ll care about and fall in love with. That is always my goal, whether I’m writing straight contemporary romances, or more erotically charged stories.

Currently, I’m working on The Marriage Diaries and making sure that Dean and Jillian enjoy exploring the more erotic side to their marriage. The series will be on-going, with no foreseeable ending as of right now, for as long as readers want to be voyeurs to Dean and Jillian’s sizzling new relationship.

I’m also planning a spin-off series in the future, featuring the hot military men that work security for Dean at Noble and Associates.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date April 6, 2016

Merryn Mantel and Geoffrey de Montfort have loved each other since childhood. Once betrothed, Geoffrey leaves for the wars in France for five long years. Upon his return, the two marry and spend one blissful night consummating their love and making plans for their future.

But her new husband vanishes the next day without a trace. Merryn grieves for almost seven years—and then Geoffrey returns to her—changed from the boy and man she knew and worshipped. This stranger refuses to reveal where he has been and why he stayed away for so long.

Will her husband’s silence create a rift too large to heal, or can Merryn and Geoffrey recapture the love they once shared?

•••••••••••••

REVIEW: The talented author Lauren Linwood has begun a new series, Knights of Valor. Book one is titled Word of Honor, and is begun in 1351 in England, during King Edward’s rule.

The Prologue finds our main characters, sixteen-year-old Geoffrey De Montfort and his recently betrothed, thirteen-year-old Merryn vowing love and saying goodbye for a while, as Geoffrey would leave for France to fight for his king. It’s a tender and loving opening, letting everyone know how a rare love match had been made between these two neighbors.

Chapter One finds us in France 1356, Geoffrey is discussing war policy with Sir Thomas. They drank to their King and his son, another Edward (the Black Prince). On his way back to his tent, Geoffrey discovers a neighbor of his engaged in whoring and betraying his king and cause. Barrett, son of Berold, earl of Winterbourne. The charges resulted in a trial by combat which Geoffrey won, resulting in the beheading of Barrett, just as his father arrived from his own fighting. Berold vows to Geoffrey to make him suffer and pray for death someday, which Geoffrey dismisses as the words of a distraught father (feeling guilty for his part in the son’s death).

This marvelous story continues in November of 1356 as Geoffrey returns to marry his Merryn and begin their life together…they have a marvelous wedding and one night of bliss before all hell breaks loose!

That’s the setup, I’ll not spoil this marvelous story by telling more. The writing is clear and wonderful, the tale exciting and emotional. Just when you wonder what else could these two young people so much in love could go through…our talented author takes the mystery and twisting to another level, both enjoyable and frustrating at the same time.

If you love tales of knights and ladies, love and adventure, you won’t want to miss this series. It’s well written, incredibly interesting (had a hard time not putting it down…so of course I didn’t). I found it both exciting and entertaining. It’s much more than just a good story…an epic tale of the kind of love we all dream about.

Developing my Heroine for Word of Honor

I am a Pride and Prejudice fan from way back. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve read Jane Austen’s masterpiece, much less admit how many times I’ve watched the BBC mini-series (COLIN FIRTH!) or the 2005 film with Keira Knightley. Actually, I wouldn’t mind telling this to readers at The Reading Café, but just in case my husband catches this post on my FB or Twitter feed? He would be flabbergasted at the double digit numbers . . . so I suppose I’ll keep my readings & viewings a secret. For now.

One of the reasons I love Austen’s classic tale so much is because of heroine Elizabeth Bennet. Lizzy is intelligent, compassionate, loyal, witty, charming, and feisty—everything I love in a heroine. Of course, she’s not perfect. Perfect is boring. No reader wants to read perfect, and Lizzy does have a few (fixable) faults. She’s a great conversationalist, but her sharp tongue gets her into trouble sometimes. Her biggest flaw is that she tends to judge people a little too hastily and harshly, which occurs when she first meets Mr. Darcy. It’s this mistaken impression she gets of him which leads her to reject his proposal of marriage the first time around.

Thank goodness our hero finds her interesting enough to hang around, hoping that he can change her mind. Lizzy gradually realizes that Darcy, besides being impossible handsome and wealthy, has something truly important to her. He possesses a noble character. She realizes her prejudice against him is undeserved. This was truly the only obstacle to finding lasting happiness with him, as she has fallen in love with him after seeing many instances of this good character in action. His feelings for her never change, but hers do an about face.

Romance writers try to give both their hero and heroine character flaws which they must overcome during the course of the novel and their growing relationship. In my latest medieval romance, Word of Honor, I wanted just as strong a heroine as Elizabeth Bennet.

Merryn Mantel is betrothed to her childhood friend and sweetheart, Geoffrey de Montfort, who leaves England to fight against France in the Hundred Years’ War. Merryn matures into a woman in the five years her betrothed is away. They marry upon his return, but Geoffrey vanishes without a trace the next day. In the years Geoffrey is away, Merryn assumes an incredible amount of responsibility.

Upon Geoffrey’s return, she finds him to be a stranger—and yet she, too, has had to change in order to cope with the circumstances of his disappearance. I had to walk a fine line and balance having Merryn continue to love Geoffrey—the new Geoffrey—and still be true to the woman she has become in his absence. I let her frustration show at the situation, but I allowed her to keep her sense of humor even when things proved tough. It didn’t hurt that she was already intelligent and compassionate, but I had to let Geoffrey see how she had changed, just as Merryn needed to understand how and why Geoffrey changed, as well. Love isn’t the issue between these two lovers; it’s trust. Both must learn once again to trust one another and respect the person each has become in the years of their separation.

I thoroughly enjoyed writing Merryn and Geoffrey’s love story, and I’m thrilled that they are the first book in the Knights of Valor series. In the upcoming five books, I have the pleasure of revisiting this couple again and watching their love mature even as other heroes and heroines appear so that I may tell their love stories, too.

REVIEW: 4.5 out of 5 for this reader folks!

My goodness that was a really good historical romance! 🙂

Luck is No Lady (love this title) by Amy Sandas (high five to another newly discovered author added to my “go to list”) is the first book of her series called “Fallen Ladies”. With a series called Fallen Ladies, and set in a time when ladies were held to a strict code of conduct, my inner rule breaking bad girl, just couldn’t resist this book. So glad I didn’t too! 🙂

Emma Chadwick is the heroine of this story and can be easily described as one well smart (especially with numbers) proper lady. She is the oldest of 3 daughters (and believes herself to be over seasoned for marriage) and takes on the responsibility of her late father’s gambling debts. In hopes of securing good marriages and proper prospects for her sisters, Emma must take a walk on the wild side in order to pay these debts off. Having been brought up in polite society, taking on employment as a gambling hell’s book keeper certainly is not the future she had envisioned. Emma is a character that is really easy to adore as she just really grabs the bull by the horns, is really smart, innocent and sweet, but cunning and witty when needed to be. Her loyalty and determination shine very brightly throughout this story!

Roderick Bentley is the owner of this gambling establishment and also considered a bastard to the members of the ton. Not letting this define his character or his life, Roderick mixes well with the ton by establishing a lucrative place for these members to sin, drink and gamble (the hypocrisy of this always makes me laugh ..lol). Roderick is very handsome, certainly wealthy and despite his title of bastard, has pretty much turned all the odds in his favour with hard work and smarts.

These two were so well matched. They both are endearing and from the first intimate stolen moment to the agreement to be employer/employee, their blossoming romance was that “feel good right from your head to your toes”, “silly smiley grin on my face while reading”. It was REFRESHING! I am all about having a arrogant arse as a hero, but Roderick was anything but … if he was an arse there was a reason .. he is one of my fave book boyfriends of 2016 so far. These two had honesty, friendship, laughs, hot yummy you know what and “I got your back” moments.

My only complaint is it was a little slow to start! Once it took off though .. WHAM .. hello story! Sorry that is all I am going to give you, you have to read the book for more!

Can I just have a moment with you here .. can you just go and admire that gorgeous cover?? Right??? Ya, I loved it too! SIGH!

Well done Amy Sandas! I will most definitely be eagerly awaiting the next book (which maybe is the next sister??). Highly recommend this book to my fellow historical romance readers!

HAPPY READING! 🙂

What is your ideal way to spend a Saturday?

Easy! A Saturday where I didn’t have laundry to do and had someone else to do the cooking would be amazing.

I work a Monday through Friday job and have three kids that require a lot of attention in the evenings, so most, if not all, of my housework gets saved up for the weekend. Three kids can create an astounding amount of dirty laundry in a week! And then there’s my husband, a man who can fix just about anything and loves to do any sort of work outside. However, when it comes to the kitchen, he excels at making mac-n-cheese, but not much else.

It’s not that I don’t like to cook. I do, but I will also say that one of my favorite ways to treat myself is go out to eat, where I can sit and enjoy a glass of wine or a craft beer while the food is being readied and I don’t have to worry about clean-up. Heaven!
Now, back to an ideal Saturday…

I would wake up early as I always do and get some writing time in before anyone else gets up. The earliest hours are quiet, dark, and perfectly suited to my muse. Writing would have to be a part of any ideal day, that’s a given. Once everyone else is up and about, I would venture from my office to make a big breakfast. Since weekday mornings are busy as everyone is getting ready for their day, breakfast tends to be quick and simple; usually cereal. When the weekend comes, I enjoy making a real breakfast and often get a little help from my son or my youngest. They both love to mix the pancake batter.

The rest of the day would depend on the time of year. I live in Wisconsin where the weather varies significantly from summer to winter. If we were talking a winter Saturday, I could see spending the day enjoying a family movie marathon, maybe Star Wars, or The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings, or Back to the Future. Someone else would be in charge of making lunch, after which I’d have a chance to sit and read a good book. Uninterrupted. Then time to get dressed up (a rare occasion) and head out for a romantic dinner date with the husband.

For an ideal summer Saturday, we would all head out as a family, either on our bikes or for a long walk, to a park we like to go to that has trails through the woods and along the river where the kids can do a little nature exploration. Lunch would be a packed picnic before we head home again to hang out in the back yard. My husband and I can sit in our chairs under the maple tree while the kids splash in the pool. For dinner, we’d head somewhere we can eat outside so we don’t waste even a moment to enjoy the weather. (Summers are lovely in Wisconsin, but fleeting!) The evening would be spent around our backyard fire pit, making s’mores and listening to my husband play guitar.

I know it all probably sounds terribly mundane, but with our busy family, there is no doubt about it—Saturdays are precious. Getting to spend time together, without any interfering obligations, would be ideal in any season.

She knows that to stay-and feel-alive, she must be with Ryder. But is Kinsey’s passion worth the risk of danger that comes with being a part of Ryder’s dark and fierce world?

••••••••••••

REVIEW: SMOKE AND FIRE is the ninth full length installment in Donna Grant’s DARK KINGS paranormal/fantasy, romance series focusing on the Dragon Kings and the women they love. This is IT specialist Kinsey Burns, and Dragon King/computer mastermind Ryder’s story line. SMOKE AND FIRE can be read as a stand alone but for cohesion and backstory I recommend reading the series in order. There is a war approaching and the buildup has been ongoing for several installments.

SOME BACKGROUND: The DARK KINGS is a spinoff from Donna Grant’s DARK WARRIOR series which in turn is a spin off from Donna’s DARK SWORD series- all set in the Highlands of Scotland. The Dark Fae and their King Taraeth, along with the Ulrik the Silver Dragon King and his uncle Mikkel have declared war on the Dragon Kings by exposing the dragon’s existence to humankind. The last wars between man and the world of the paranormal saw a great loss of life on all sides-but Ulrik wants revenge against King Constantine of the Dragon Kings; Mikkel wants to become King of the Silvers, and the Dark Fae want the Dragon’s hidden weapon, and to rule Scotland and the rest of the world. SMOKE AND FIRE overlaps with Donna’s new spin off series THE REAPERS who may be a potential ally with the Dragons Kings in their war with the Dark Fae.

Told from several third person points of view SMOKE AND FIRE focuses on Kinsey Burns and her return to Ryder’s life. Believing she has been ordered to Dreagan on behalf of the IT firm for which she works, Kinsey comes face to face with the man (dragon) she once believed was ‘the one’. Three years earlier Ryder walked away from Kinsey without a reason as to why, leaving a broken hearted and shattered woman in his wake. Fast forward to present day where three weeks earlier Ryder revealed the true nature of his beast when Kinsey was attacked by the Dark Fae. What ensues is the slow rekindling of a relationship destroyed by the secrets Ryder was never willing or allowed to tell; and his fear that Con would have destroyed the woman that he loved. With Kinsey’s return comes thoughts of betrayal and heartbreak from the man who once held her heart and her soul.

SMOKE AND FIRE continues to follow the building war between the Dragons and the Dark Fae; the Silver Dragon King Ulrik and his Uncle Mikkel; and their battle for supremacy over the King of Kings Con. Rhi returns to struggle with her feelings for the Dragon King who destroyed her heart, and the Dark Fae Balladyn who is willing to give Rhi everything that he can but not the man that she wants. Rhi’s ‘cloaked companion’ will let Rhi know that he isn’t about to end her life but continues to follow Rhi wherever she goes. Con’s dalliances with the Light Fae may place the King of Kings on the front page news, and threaten everything that he has worked for to protect the Dragon Kings.

Donna Grant is slowly revealing the past, the present and the possible future for the Dragon Kings of Dreagan-their secreted lives; the hidden truth; the potential destruction of everything on earth if the Dragons go to war with the Dark Fae. Ulrik wants revenge against the man he once called a brother; and Con is willing to protect their secret at all costs. SMOKE AND FIRE is another story line that adds to the suspense of a possible war. The premise is engaging; the characters are heartbreaking and charismatic; the romance is a second chance at love. I can only hope that whatever Donna has planned for her Dragons is revealed shortly-there are quite a number of plotlines starting to converge and overlap, while others take off in another direction. The layers are building yet very little has been revealed.

Luckily, the band’s new keyboard player can teach her exactly what she needs, in the kitchen and in the bedroom.

•••••••••••••••••

REVIEW: TAKE ME HOME TONIGHT is the third installment in Erika Kelly’s contemporary, adult ROCK STAR ROMANCE erotic, romance series focusing on the members of the rock band Blue Fire. This is keyboardist Calix Bourbon, and home cook Amelia ‘Mimi’ Romano. TAKE ME HOME TONIGHT can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from previous story lines is revealed where necessary. Mimi, her mother Francesca, and Calix were introduced in book two-I WANT YOU TO WANT ME.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Calix and Mimi) TAKE ME HOME TONIGHT looks at family, grief, loss and moving forward. Three years earlier, Calix’s family was caught in the trauma of the unexpected death of the youngest sibling whose overdose destroyed their once tight knit family. Fast forward three years and no one in the Bourbon family has been able to move forward or get on with their lives. Enter Mimi Romano-Blue Fire’s temporary chef-and the woman who would push the Bourbon family out of their comfort zones with the possibility of taking the first few steps in a new direction. What ensues is a slow building romance between Calix and Mimi, and Calix’s inability to let go of the past.

Calix blames himself for his brother’s death, and like the other members of the family, has hovered close to home in order to keep an eye on their grieving mother. Calix comes from a musical family- a high profile rock family, and with it comes the guilt of the past-sex, drugs, and rock and roll. I did take issue with Calix’s ‘hot and cold’ treatment of Mimi Romano-on some levels, his lack of maturity was a bit much with his ‘too quick’ to run attitude. Many times Mimi was left alone struggling to find a way home or to heal her broken heart.

Mimi is a strong female character; an only child who has done everything to please her father but believes her father cannot see beyond the past. Hoping to make it on her own Mimi enters a reality cooking competition but lacks the skills necessary to make it to the end. When Calix, and his family offer to ‘teach’ Mimi the skills necessary to survive, Mimi jumps at the chance to be near the man with whom she is falling in love, but a man who is unable to give Mimi what she wants.

TAKE ME HOME TONIGHT has a large ensemble cast of characters including the entire Bourbon clan; Mimi’s parents Dino and Francesca; all of the members of Blue Fire and their significant others; as well as a number of groupies and wannabes who make life miserable for everyone involved.

The world building focuses on the band and their struggle with membership, management and moving forward. The relationship between Mimi and Calix is a slow build to a happily ever after but was lost in the family struggles on both sides of the couple’s relationship, and Mimi’s appearances on a television show similar to CHOPPED™. The $ex scenes are intimate and seductive. Again, I had an issue with the believability of one of the judge’s discriminating and derogatory comments-I don’t think the attacks against the competitor would have been allowed.

TAKE ME HOME TONIGHT is a fascinating story line about grief and loss; family and love; falling in love and looking forward to the future. The premise is spirited and moving; the characters are emotional and intense; the romance is passionate and heartbreaking. We can never set a time line on grief or over coming a tragic loss; while one person is able to move forward, others are caught in an unending spiral of emotional pain. Erika Kelly’s TAKE ME HOME TONIGHT is an engaging look at one family’s struggle with loss and moving forward.

excerpt

She started to pull away from him, but the loss of her touch made him tighten his grip. When he didn’t let go, she lifted her head to look at him. They’d never been this close. Close enough to see the pale nick of a scar right at her cheek bone, that expressive mouth, and the question in her eyes. Need burned through him, sending electrical impulses down his spine and through his dick. He needed her bare, warm skin against his. Needed the wet heat of her mouth, the slick tangle of her tongue. He needed…oh, fuck him. His mouth settled over hers, and sparks fired in his blood. Her body turned toward him, fingers gripping the back of his shirt. The hunger took over, and he swept his tongue across her lips, licking inside her mouth. With a sharp intake of breath, she was kissing him back. And, holy fuck, this wasn’t some gentle exploration. This was mouth-fucking. She clutched the back of his neck, her tongue stroking his, and raw desire streaked though him, setting him on fire. Keeping his arm firmly around her waist, he set her down. But if she thought he was letting her go—not a chance. He just repositioned her so he could lift her against the wall and spread those legs around his hips. Nothing could stop his body from pressing into her and taking that mouth he’d fantasized about for months. Her tits, her hands, the way she writhed against him, made him frenzied. “Jesus, Mimi.” And then she was making noises, hot, hungry purrs deep in her throat. He ground his cock against her stomach. Heat blistered through him. “God.” The back of her head hit the wall, and she fought to pull her legs out of his grip. It took him a moment to shift gears, but he slowly lowered her to the floor. She looked as shaken as he felt. His knees barely supported him, so he braced both arms against the wall to hold himself up. He needed a moment to cool down. Jesus, he’d never had a kiss like that. *About TAKE ME HOME TONIGHT:* *A rocker gets a taste of unexpected passion in the latest red-hot Rock Star Romance from the award-winning author of I Want You to Want Me.* Calix Bourbon might seem like a free spirit, but that’s all a front.
