REVIEW: THE VENGEFUL THIEF is the fifth installment in Mallory Crowe’s contemporary, adult STOLEN HEARTS romantic suspense series. This is security specialist Peter Slade, and veterinarian technician Liv Morgan’s story line. THE VENGEFUL THIEF can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Liv and Slade) THE VENGEFUL THIEF begins the next chapter and series arc in the author’s STOLEN HEARTS romantic suspense series. Peter Slade was one of the ‘bad guys’ in the original installments. Forced ‘servitude’ came with threats against the people he loved but his release from service meant a greater threat back home, and Peter Slade found himself back where it all began but with more to lose than he could have ever imagined. Enter Olivia ‘Liv’ Morgan, Slade’s son’s ‘second mother’, and the woman with whom he would fall in love. What ensues is the quick building relationship between Liv and Slade, and the potential fall out when Slade’s past targets everyone he loves in Laurie Falls.

Ten years earlier, Peter Slade left Laurie Falls in the hopes of protecting the people that he loved but leaving meant ‘dying’ to ensure there were no direct connections between him and the family he left behind. But the past has come back, looking for revenge, aiming to destroy the only family Peter has ever loved. Liv Morgan knows a thing or two about the ‘bad boy’ having escaped a relationship that was doomed to destroy her life. Finding a family to love in Laurie Falls meant a second chance that included helping to raise her best friend’s nephew-a little boy who never knew his father but would never want for love. Meeting the man who she believes abandoned her best friend and son, Liv is unable to explain the palpable sexual attraction, an attraction that makes her a target in a game of vindictive revenge.

The relationship between Slade and Liv is one of immediate attraction but Liv’s acceptance of Slade’s ten year absence comes with trepidation, anger and heartbreak. Slade ‘died’ to protect his sister and his son but returning to Laurie Falls has placed a bigger target on the people he loves. Meeting Liv Morgan finds our hero looking towards a future-a future that will include his son, and a new prospect for a happily ever after. The lone $ex scene is passionate and seductive without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

We are introduced to Peter Slade’s sister Melissa, his ten year old son Josh, as well as the return of Slade’s partners in crime Tristan and Gage, and Scot Hart and Toni Murray (The Reluctant Thief #4). The requisite evil has many faces including small town mobster Tiger Thurrond whose power has infiltrated the local police.

THE VENGEFUL THIEF is a quick read; a story of family and friendship; betrayal and revenge; forgiveness and love. The premise is engaging and action packed; the characters are colorful, dynamic and real; the romance is quick to build towards a happily ever after.

REVIEW: MISTLETOE ME, BABY is the fourth instalment (and novella) in Katie Reus’ contemporary, adult O’CONNOR FAMILY romance series focusing on the O’Connor family of Holly, North Carolina. This is Miranda Flores, and Nolan O’Connor’s story line. MISTLETOE ME, BABY can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story line is revealed where necessary.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Miranda and Nolan) MISTLETOE ME BABY follows the fake engagement between co-workers at the local community centre Miranda Flores, and Nolan O’Connor. Ten months earlier, to escape her smothering family Miranda left Florida to set down roots in Holly, North Carolina-a small town that celebrates Christmas year round. As full-time guardian to her sister’s eleven year-old son Mateo, Miranda spends most of her time working to support a child she loves as her own. When Miranda’s parents announce a surprise holiday visit, our heroine panics in the face a lie she told to keep her mother off of her back-Miranda needs a fiancé, and the perfect man for the job is her best friend Nolan O’Connor-the man with whom Miranda is secretly in love. What ensues is the building friends to lovers relationship between Miranda and Nolan-a relationship that has simmered for close to ten months, and the potential fall out when Miranda places an end date on their ‘fake’ romance.

MISTLETOE ME, BABY is a story of family and friendship; heartbreak and grief; love and happily ever after. Tragedy will strike the Flores family leaving a grieving family struggling with the loss but none more so than our story line heroine. The premise is sweet, engaging and entertaining; the characters are colorful, real and charismatic; the romance is passionate and seductive without the use of sexually graphic, over the top language and text. MISTLETOE ME, BABY is a quick read; a wonderful holiday love story; a welcome addition to the O’Connor Series by Katie Reus.

McIntire County 3 & 4

5 out of 5 for this reader folks .. for both books!

This is a double review for the next two books in Winter Austin’s “McIntire County” series. As expected by the experience I had with the first two books, I was very pleased that once again another slam dunk was written. You will find a contemporary story line with serious suspense, intrigue, romance, incredible detail and mystery. So yup, just about everything but the kitchen sink. I was completely captivated from the beginning, and that carried throughout the entire story. Very addicted read.

Let’s move on to the reviews!:)

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date October 30, 2017

A cowboy sheriff and a by-the-book FBI agent team up to to solve a string of murders and arson in this satisfying, slow-burning McIntire County series finale.

Returning to Eider, Iowa, wasn’t in FBI agent Liza Bartholomew’s game plan, but when word reaches her that an elusive scam artist she’s been tracking for years was spotted there, she heads south. Vengeance for his victims and her career are on the line, and she won’t rest until justice is served.

However, Eider’s sheriff makes for one big roadblock. Between the fallout over his recent close re-election, two gruesome homicides, a rash of arsons, and personal grief weighing on his soul, the last thing Shane Hamilton has time for is a determined FBI agent in his county.

But when it becomes evident that the crime wave and her case are intertwined, Shane makes a bold move that flies in the face of his longstanding vow: He gets close to Liza to share professional and personal secrets.

As the body count mounts, Liza and Shane find themselves and everyone they love in the immediate crosshairs. What will they sacrifice to stop the cold-blooded killer in time?

••••••••••

REVIEW:Liza Bartholomew is our main lady character of this book and she was absolutely incredible. She is a federal agent, determined to solve a case, beautiful and not quite emotionally available. She has returned to town to close a chapter of her life and start a new one that focuses on her family. This case however keeps digging its claws into Liza and pulling her deep into an abyss she is not sure she can come back from.

Shane Hamilton has had enough of you know what hitting the fan with regards to his town. So much has happened over the past few years and Shane is the not so lucky sheriff to have to investigate and relive all these crimes. He also has a heavy heart and is trying to heal from a loss when that troublemaker of an FBI agent decides to cross his path. There is no doubting the attraction he feels towards her, but truth be told, he just wants to give her the best helping hand possible and move on. Working such hard crimes together, it is not long before Liza and Shane start to realize that they are each others rock and soon to be lover. So much danger surrounds them however, and so much is complicated, it is doubtful they can come out of it undamaged .. let alone in love.

So not giving away much of the story beyond that, but I will tell you if you like a good mystery and a serious side of romance then this is a great series for you. Many twists and turns, heart pounding moments, lust, angst, love and undiscovered truths will be experienced here. I strongly recommend that you read ALL the books in order as many characters return and we get glimpses of their pasts and why they are the way they are. Winter does do a great job however, of making sure a synopsis is given in each novel of the the story previously laid out .. so I suppose you could read it as a stand alone … but NAH! LOL

Fantastic series Winter Austin and I eagerly anticipate your next one.

HAPPY READING! 🙂

Sober Saturday night number 836.
Sixteen years dry.
Enough time to move on, to forget what happened that night sixteen years ago. Yet the anniversary would roll around and he couldn’t stop the binge. Sipping on those memories, downing them one after another, drowning in them until he was drunk. Letting her take him to a dark place in his soul he could never purge. By dawn’s light, he was left wasted and broken, a shell of a man, lying on the floor. Another piece of his soul lost, buried with her in that cold, dark hole.
Shane Hamilton had lived in this hell for so long, it became a ritual. Every April he prepared for it, taking off the day of and the day after. Even during those bleak six years where he was dodging bullets and bombs, he was swirling in a black abyss. This year, the anniversary fell on Saturday.
Hands braced on the tile walls, he watched the water snake along his body and pool at his bare feet. No matter what effort he put in to cleansing his body, or mind and soul, the water never baptized him from his sins.
Twinkling under the harsh electric light, the slim, gold circle danced and twirled at the end of the silver chain. She had danced and twirled under the smoky haze of neon lights, laughing and flirting, making promises that were to never come true.
Shane gripped the diamond ring, ceasing its merry spin, and flattened it to his chest. The emergency room doctor had removed it from her finger and given it to Shane, pity gleaming in the man’s eyes. The doctor’s fingers were heavy as they pressed the ring into his palm; the memory of the band’s slick feel from the blood was branded into his palm. From then on, the ring dangled from a chain around his neck, settling in a place near his heart. A reminder of what he lost in a moment of stupidity.
The jangle of his phone drifted into the bathroom. In the last half hour, he’d heard it go off five times. Lifting his face to the spray of the shower, he commenced with continuing to ignore the persistent caller.
A thrumming ache wove through his muscles and seeped into his bones. Too many years on the rodeo circuit riding some of the rankest broncs and his multiple tours in the Sandbox had left behind a different kind of pain he easily remedied with a few aspirin. Though it was getting difficult to ease the hurt, especially after a night spent on a hardwood floor. Shane turned fifty next month, but felt all of seventy.
Finishing his poor man’s shower, he shut off the faucet and then stepped out of the stall. Once more the old-fashioned telephone ring of his cell phone reached him. Toweling off, he turned his back to the open door.
Sunday morning rays peeked through the gaping brown, plaid curtains. Before passing away, his mother had decorated her little haven with homey touches only a cowboy like himself would enjoy. She had done it because she missed her husband—who passed two years before she did—and for Shane, who was to inherit the family farm. His mother must have believed in her heart that he’d leave this world as a bachelor, never daring to step into that minefield of love again. In reverence to his saintly mother, Shane hadn’t changed a thing.
He wrapped the towel around his waist, and then staggered into his bedroom to dress.
Avoiding the bed with its twisted sheets, he pulled on a pair of jeans and skipped his duty shirt. Today was a dark blue, plaid shirt kind of day. Finger combing his tightly coiled hair, he stepped into his boots and carefully picked a path down the hall. Each step sent flares of pain up his spine. It might be time to consider taking up Doc Drummond on his offer to make an appointment with an arthritis specialist in Iowa City.
Shane removed the half-full coffee pot from the warmer and slowly poured a cup. Lifting the stout mug to his lips, he inhaled the aroma of dark roast and then sipped the strong brew. During his travels all over the world, Shane had fallen in love with Community coffee in Louisiana. He sniffed, reality punching him in the gut. Louisiana had been his little trick rider’s home state; Community had been her favorite coffee. And what she’d loved, he loved, too.
Today was going to be rough. He had to find a way to get past this.
Rummaging through the cabinets, he upended a box of Pop-Tarts and snatched a package. Tearing into the foil with his teeth, he grunted as he bit through both pastries. Almost fifty and still eating like a kid. If she could see him now, she’d probably laugh.
His phone went off like a banshee. Damn it to hell and back! He made a crooked path to the table where the infernal machine continued to squeal. Seven missed calls and eighteen text messages glared at him.
“Shit.” He stabbed a blunt finger at the speakerphone icon. “Murdoch, this better be damn important to interrupt me on my sabbatical.”
“How damn important is it to you that there’s a body in the river, boss?”

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date December 2016

Newly pinned deputy Jolie Murdoch’s first big job as a McIntire County deputy is to locate a missing girl. What Jolie doesn’t expect is to stumble upon a corpse–the girl’s father–with a prime suspect still hanging around. But why would local bartender Xavier Hartmann go off the deep end and bludgeon a man to death?

A former marine, Xavier is barely coping with a traumatic brain injury, and he has no memory of what happened at the crime scene. He came to Eider to confront his past, not get embroiled in a murder as the number one suspect. To make matters worse, as the mystery deepens, Xavier finds himself drawn to the reluctant deputy.

As Jolie fights against mounting pressure to get to the truth, she realizes there’s more to Xavier than meets the eye. But someone is lingering on the fringes, determined to put a stop to her investigation and Xavier’s freedom. Will Jolie do her sworn duty or buck the status quo to give her and Xavier’s newfound passion a chance?

••••••••••

REVIEW: Jolie Murdoch is our leading lady. She has just become a deputy and is eager to start the job on the right foot. She is green enough to follow the rules set out for her, but not to the detriment of an innocent man. She is smart, a little timid and completely dedicated to solving a case of missing girl. She has great gut instinct. When it starts to tell her something is wrong here, and the man suspected of a gruesome crime is actually innocent, she faces many road blocks in her quest to prove his innocence. One of the biggest roadblocks is the man suspected of these crimes … Xavier.

Xavier Hartmann is one hot mess. He is a former marine, reclusive, eager to right a wrong despite his severe memory loss, strong and very handsome. He is also guarding a serious secret. One he cannot jeopardize no matter what happens. Attraction is strong between Jolie and Xavier as is their difficulty to trust. So much is against these two it’s a wonder if they would make it at all.

What had happened? Why was Xavier covered in blood and looming over a dead man? Why was Clint Kruger dead? Where was Clint’s daughter, Sarah? And was that a prosthetic in Xavier’s lap?
The unholy smell of decay hanging in the hot June air, making Jolie want to hurl her lunch, wasn’t helping her predicament.
Wait! He was missing a limb? Her stomach twisted in knots, sending a sour taste into her mouth. Oh, this was so wrong, on so many levels.
“Deputy, this … ” His raised, tattooed arms flopped down. “This looks exactly like you think it does.”
“What in God’s name happened?” she demanded.
“I don’t know.”
“What do you mean you don’t know? Clint Kruger is dead.”
“That’s who this is?” Xavier groaned, shaking his head back and forth, muttering, “No, no, no, no.”
Eyelids fluttering in rapid succession, and like a fish, her mouth open and closed. Had he seriously …? How could he not know who Clint Kruger was? Wasn’t Xavier one of many who knew that Sarah was missing and possibly with her estranged father? The news had been all over town for the last twenty-four hours, pictures of the two strung everywhere Sarah’s mother could post them.
“Xavier … ” Jolie approached him cautiously, that nagging voice in the back of her head telling her to draw her weapon, but she ushered the thought away. “If it was self-defense, I’ll understand, but how do you not know what happened?”
Tortured green-gray eyes stared back at her. “I can’t explain it.” The accent he’d done so well hiding leached into his voice in that statement.
She broke out in a sweat. Whoa, baby, she was in it deep. What was she going to do? This was like Ian all over again. She couldn’t screw this up, not like last time. She was a full-fledged deputy now; all eyes were on her, expecting her to botch another case, smearing the good name of Murdoch through the proverbial crap even more than Ian had.
Her radio squawked. “Murdoch, status?” It was Jennings, the currently acting dispatcher.
Xavier’s gaze bore into her as they stared at each other. Could she claim he was a killer, when, in fact, she hadn’t seen him actually kill Clint Kruger? But the evidence before her was damning, and the blood that splattered Xavier’s clothing certainly made him look suspicious.
Don’t do something stupid, Jolie.
“Murdoch, report.”
What should she do?
Sighing, Xavier positioned the prosthetic under his stump and put it on. “You do what you have to do, Deputy,” he said. Then, with an ease that surprised her, he hauled himself upright.
“You could leave. I could pretend I never saw you.” And that right there was how you screwed it all up.

••••••••••

REVIEW:  FOLLOW by Tessa Bailey is a contemporary, adult, stand alone, erotic, romance story line focusing on film student Teresa Valentini, and financial investor Will Caruso.

Told from dual first person points of view (Teresa and Will) FOLLOW follows Teresa Valentini as she struggles to free her brother from criminal servitude to the man who destroyed their parent’s lives. When her younger brother Nicky gets caught up in the criminal element working for Silas Case, Teresa offers herself up in order to free her brother from potential harm. Enter Will Caruso, Teresa’s target, and the man with whom Teresa will fall in love. What ensues is the growing relationship between Teresa and Will, predicated upon lies and deception, and the fall out when the truth is revealed.

Teresa is desperate to save her brother from a similar fate that befell her parents but our heroine never expected to fall in love. Meeting Will Caruso found Teresa struggling between head and heart knowing that to complete the task she will lose the love of the man that calls to her heart. Will Caruso suspects that Teresa is keeping secret the real reason for her cross-country trek as she heads back to New York-a city with too many painful memories for our story line hero.

The relationship between Will and Teresa begins as a lie –a lie that Will suspects much sooner than our heroine expected. Teresa’s guilt does not outweigh her younger brother’s safety but remains a permanent part of her continuing deception with the man with whom she will fall in love. The $ex scenes are numerous-almost gratuitous- erotic, aggressive and intense but I struggled with the perceived lack of emotional chemistry. Will is a means to an end, and our heroine intends to push our hero towards a path he does not want to follow. Will likes to talk dirty both in and out of the bedroom; our couple play fantasy games throughout the story.

FOLLOW is a slow building, erotic tale of one woman’s struggle between right and wrong, and the potential heartbreak when the truth is revealed. Our heroine’s deception and ruse figures prominently throughout the story-the deception continues to build as the couple falls in love. The premise is interesting; the characters are colourful; the romance is a case of insta-lust between two virtual strangers whose introduction leads to inevitable heartbreak.

The cheers are deafening. Will hoots and rises from his chair, moving into a spot behind mine. Paula takes his place across from me. Everyone crowds in on all sides. And suddenly my world has been narrowed down to an arm wrestling arena.
“All right, baby.” Will’s voice smokes into my ear. “Here’s how we get to five seconds. You’re going to top-roll.”
“We? And what is that?”
I sound like a hysterical cartoon character, but Will continues undaunted, his breath on my neck, his thumb massaging me between the shoulder blades. “If we make this a bicep game, she’s got you beat, so we’re going to make it about hands, fingers and wrists, to ease the disadvantage. You’re going to work your palm upwards, along hers, like you’re trying to wrap your hand around the top part of hers. Just hold firm and focus on coming over the top of her.”
Paula is mean mugging me across the table, gum being mutilated between her teeth. “I thought you ran a hedge fund,” I mutter to Will.
“I didn’t always,” he mutters, laying a kiss on my cheek. “Five seconds. You got this.”
“I was wondering why you aren’t already married. Mystery solved. You get a lap dance from your date. Then she gets her arm torn off.”
Another kiss and this time his lips linger on my temple. “You could look at it that way. Or you could look at it mine. Thank fuck I’m not married or I’d have missed the girl who gave me a lap dance, then took on the local gator-wrestling champ. All before lunchtime.” His fingers slide up into my hair and tug, firm and gentle all at once. “Thank fuck, right?”

Brotherhood. Club. Family.
They live and ride by their own rules.
These are the Raven Riders…

Wild with grief over the death of his wife, Sam “Slider” Evans merely lives for his two sons. Nothing holds his interest anymore—not even riding his bike or his membership in the Raven Riders Motorcycle Club. But that all changes when he hires a new babysitter.

Recently freed from a bad situation by the Ravens, Cora Campbell is determined to bury the past. When Slider offers her a nanny position, she accepts, needing the security and time to figure out what she wants from life. Cora adores his sweet boys, but never expected the red-hot attraction to their brooding, sexy father. If only he would notice her…

Slider does see the beautiful, fun-loving woman he invited into his home. She makes him feel too much, and he both hates it and yearns for it. But when Cora witnesses something she shouldn’t have, the new lives they’ve only just discovered are threatened. Now Slider must claim—and protect—what’s his before it’s too late.

••••••••••

REVIEW: RIDE WILD is the third instalment in Laura Kaye’s contemporary, adult RAVEN RIDERS MC romance series focusing on the men and women of the Raven Riders MC. This is thirty six year old club member/ widower and father of two Sam “Slider” Evans, and twenty four year old Cora Campbell’s story line. RIDE WILD can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary. Cora was first introduced to the reader in book one RIDE HARD as one of two women, including Cora’s BFF Haven Randall, rescued by the Raven Riders from an abusive and dangerous situation.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Cora and Slider) RIDE WILD follows the building relationship between Raven Riders’ member Sam “Slider” Evans, and Cora Campbell. Two years earlier Slider’s wife died leaving our hero a single father of two young boys, and ultimately Slider began pulling back from the MC lifestyle. Needing a babysitter Slider offers Cora a job but in return gets more than he could have ever imagined. What ensues is the building love and romance between Cora and Slider, and the potential fallout when Cora and the boys become collateral damage in an act of revenge.

Cora Campbell has finally found a home with Slider and his sons, and volunteering at the local animal shelter finds our heroine in the direct line of conflict when she is witness to a serious threat against everything she holds dear. Sam “Slider” Evans has struggled since the death of his wife but he battles between his heart and his mind knowing the truth is different than what he has only revealed. Cora Campbell is a blessing and a curse as our hero begins to fall in love with the woman who has already captured the hearts of his sons.

The relationship between Cora and Slider begins as a business arrangement when Cora begins sitting for Slider’s two sons- five year old Ben and ten year old Sam. Cora falls instantly in love with the two little boys, and hopes the love she feels is welcomed in return. Cora and Slider’s romance straddles the line of forbidden love but our heroine is willing to risk her heart for the family she has always wanted. The $ex scenes are intimate, passionate and intense without the use of sexually graphic, over the top language and text.

Most of the previous story line characters play secondary and supporting roles including Raven Riders president Dare Kenyon and Haven Randall (Ride Hard #1), vice president Maverick Rylan, and interior designer Alexa Harmon (Ride Rough #2), Slider’s sons Ben and Sam, as well as Raven Riders MC members-road captain Phoenix, Meat, Bear, Doc and Caine. Jagger still sits in jail accused on false charges aimed at destroying the Raven Riders MC. The requisite evil has many faces including several familiar faces to the Riders MC. And if you pay attention we get a little visit from the Hard Ink series.

The world building continues to look at the MC lifestyle but unlike some MC story lines Laura Kaye’s Raven Riders series is a little tamer; the men a little less threatening, abrasive or antagonistic; and the women not as aggressive or rough. The violence factor is more pervasive than in the previous story lines but the graphic descriptions are more subdued and manageable. I guess what I am trying to say is there is no ‘in your face’ or ‘over the top’ dark and gritty sexually abusive or violent MC scenarios.

RIDE WILD is a story of family, friendship, brotherhood and love; of one woman who struggles with memories of the past; and one man who battles between his heart and his head. The premise is dramatic and encouraging; the characters are colourful, energetic and compelling; the romance is captivating and seductive. RIDE WILD is a wonderful and entertaining addition to Laura Kaye’s RAVEN RIDERS MC series.

“Hey, Cora,” he said, his gravelly morning voice so damn sexy.
“Hey,” she said, tilting her head back to look him in the eye. She wondered if she should get off him, but didn’t really want to.
Not making any move to get up, Slider just looked down at her. “How you feeling?”
“A lot better,” she said, hyperaware that her hand was lying on his chest. His heartbeat faintly registered against her palm. “Still achy and a little off, but better.”
“Good. You should probably take it easy today, though. Whatever that was isn’t likely out of your system yet.”
She nodded. “I will.”
Talking like this, their faces so close, felt so damn intimate that Cora could almost imagine that nothing existed outside of Slider’s bed. She almost didn’t want it to. Especially when his arm squeezed a little tighter around her shoulders and brought them just a little closer. Cora shifted into his embrace, pressing her chest totally flush against his die, and sliding her thigh up until—
Oh, hell. Until she felt the part of him she’d accidentally seen. And it was hard.
He sucked in a breath, and his hand clamped around his thigh. “Shit, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean—”
She placed her fingers loosely over his mouth. She didn’t want him to apologize. Or explain it away. Or push her away.
Cora knew she shouldn’t wan the things she did, but that didn’t make her desires go away. It felt good to want Slider, it made her feel normal, even if she was a little nervous. After what her father had done, that seemed like a victory she didn’t want to relinquish.
And, oh, now that she was touching his face, she really didn’t want to stop. His lips were full and soft under her fingers, his stubble was more ticklish than prickly, and his cheekbone was prominent under his skin.
He licked his lips, and her gaze latched on to the movement.
“Cora,” he rasped, his cock getting even harder against her thigh.
His arousal fueled her own, her hips tilting with the need for friction. The movement had her grinding herself against the firm muscle of his thigh and made both of them suck in a breath. His grip tightened on her everywhere. His arm holding her tighter yet to him, his hand pulling her thigh wider across him.
Her fingers returned to his mouth again, and traced across his lower lip. His tongue flicked out and swiped at her pointer finger, and Cora was instantly wet. Trembling with need and adrenaline and the fear that at any second, he would cut this off, Cora shifted ever so slowly, ever so slightly, bringing her face closer to his. He watched her like she was a tigress about to strike, but just as her mouth almost reached his, he flipped them and pinned her to the bed.
And Cora realized she had it all wrong. He’d been the feral animal about to attack all along.

About the Book: Release Date October 24, 2017

Born in the Holy Land only a few years after the Third Crusade, half-Armenian, half-Scot Arbela MacLean is a true daughter of the desert, beautiful and untamed. Trained to be a warrior to avoid her gentle mother’s fate, Arbela has honed her skills with Turkish bow and arrow, sword and throwing darts—and dreads the day her father choses a man for her to marry.

After more than thirty years in the Holy Land, Donal MacLean, Baron of Batroun, is recalled to Scotland, the last son available to take up leadership of clan MacLean. He brings with him knights, treasure, trade—and a daughter of marriageable age.

Caelen MacKern, known as the Bull of the Highlands, is cynical about women. His first marriage formed an alliance, and he did not grieve when his spoiled, immature bride passed away. He has agreed to marry again—against his better judgement—for the men, means and coin to recover from a devastating pestilence that all but wiped out his clan.

Though more than a little resentful at finding himself forced to remarry, Caelen’s proposal to Donal MacLean’s headstrong daughter nevertheless piques her interest. Each will receive what they want most from life—the ability to live as they please without interference from a meddling spouse. But their marriage of indifference will soon change to one of passion that neither Arbela nor Caelen could have predicted.

••••••••••

REVIEW: THE HIGHLANDER’S CRUSADER BRIDE is the third instalment in Cathy MacRae’s adult HARDY HEROINES historical, Highlander romance series. This is half-Armenian, half Scot Arbela MacLean, and Caelen MacKern’s story line.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Caelen and Arbela) THE HIGHLANDER’S CRUSADER BRIDE is a stand alone story line that follows the marriage of convenience between half-Armenian, half Scot Arbela MacLean, and Laird Caelen MacKern, leader of Clan MacKern in the Western Highlands of Scotland. Death and disease has ravaged the MacKern Clan, and with it comes the struggles to feed and support the numerous bodies within the Keep. To add insult to an already suffering Clan, Laird MacKern’s former father in law seeks revenge against the Laird for the untimely death of his daughter, Caelen’s first wife, plundering small herds and burning down the outlying crofts. Enter Laird Donal MacLean, who offers up his twenty year old daughter Arbela MacLean in exchange for provisions, repairs and additional security. What ensues is the marriage of convenience between the independent and warrior-trained Arbela MacLean, and Laird Caelen MacKern, and the potential fall out as Laird MacGillonay demands custody of Caelen’s only son attacking the Clan and the woman with whom Caelen is falling in love.

Arbela MacLean is half-Armenian, half-Scot, and royalty by birth, but our heroine is unlike any of the Scottish woman Caelen has ever met or seen. Warrior trained in both the defensive and offensive ways of war, the head-strong but beautiful Arbela is a one-woman army unto herself. Darker skinned with an attitude to match, Arbela will become the victim of racist slurs and savage attacks that accompany her marriage to a Scottish Laird. Five years earlier Caelen MacKern’s wife died leaving our hero a single father with a one-year old son. Discouraged by his first marriage Caelen vows never to remarry as he battles to maintain control of his struggling Clan. A marriage of convenience will aid in the resurrection of the MacKern Clan but a marriage that is doomed to fail as both Caelen and Arbela refuse to accept anything beyond a marriage in name only.

There is a large ensemble cast of secondary and supporting characters. Not everyone is true to the MacKern Clan-there are traitors in the midst, some closer than others. The introduction of Bram MacKern softens our heroine’s heart as she grows to love the child as her own.

The relationship between Arbela and Caelen begins as an arrangement. Arbela had no plans for marriage; and Caelen refuses to enter into a marriage with another unhappy wife. Their unwritten agreement to keep separate lives is quickly extinguished when their palpable sexual attraction is heightened by threats against the people they love. The $ex scenes are intimate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

THE HIGHLANDER’S CRUSADER BRIDE mixes historical facts with fiction creating a wonderful story line about two people pulled together by circumstance and love. There are moments of betrayal and devotion, hatred and friendship, discrimination and acceptance, romance and love. The premise is entertaining, revealing and engaging; the characters are real, colourful and charismatic; the romance is passionate and slow to build. Cathy MacRae adds another dimension to her Hardy Heroine’s –a series of strong, independent and beautiful women who find the courage to live and love.

Totally His

About the book: October 31, 2017

Actress Sophie Birch is used to having to look out for herself. So when her theater catches fire and a big guy scoops her up into his arms to save her, she’s going to fight every step of the way. Even if he’s a cop. And really sexy. And his arms feel oh-so-good.

Finn Kelly can’t help but appreciate how good the woman in his arms looks in her sexy pink lingerie. Even if she’s currently resisting arrest.

But as the two get to know each other, they’re both surprised by the things Finn is willing to do to get closer to her. And when Sophie’s estranged father arrives in town and starts causing trouble, the stage is set for disaster…unless Finn can convince her that, for once in her life, she has someone to lean on.

••••••••••••

REVIEW: Totally His begins with Finn Kelly arriving at a theater fire to help with crowd control. One of the first things he spots is a woman in pink lingerie sneaking into the burning theater. He heads in to make the woman vacate the premises, only to be met with vehement resistance. Once he literally picks her up to get her out of the building, he takes her outside, only to lose track of her pretty quickly. It doesn’t take long for him to spot her, or someone whom he thought was her. He approaches “her” and immediately realizes that he has been duped. The woman who had donned the pink robe was not the woman he rescued from the building. Go figure….

Sophie Birch is knows she risked a lot going back into her burning theater to rescue a script that was an original written by her good friend, Angie. But, it was that good. She also a little side tracked with thoughts of the sexy as hell cop that carried her to safety. Those thoughts disappear as her estranged father, Frank, shows up looking for a place to stay and some quick cash.

It doesn’t take long for Sophie and Finn to realize that their lives are intertwined in ways that neither knew about. Once Finn mobilizes family, friends and co-workers to help Sophie repair the damage to her theater, Sophie starts to do something she swore she’d never do: long for a family and support system that she’s never had. Determined to not fall for Finn, Sophie tries to keep her distance from him, but ends up failing miserably. As Finn realizes that he’s fallen hard for Sophie, he vows to do everything in his power to keep her safe and make her totally his……..

Totally His is a wonderfully written story. Sophie is independent, feisty and loyal. She’s been her own support system for so long that she has a lot of trouble opening up and letting people in. Finn is caring, loyal and steadfast in his belief that he needs to give back and try to help everyone in need. When the two of them come together, along with his huge, boisterous family, it doesn’t take Sophie long to be overwhelmed. Throw in her player father, whom she tries to protect everyone from, and you’ve got a great story. The chemistry between Finn and Sophie leaps off of the page. Their banter is engaging and funny. The secondary characters only add to the whole experience. Totally His pulls at your heart strings, but it also makes you swoon with the sizzling romance and humor. I didn’t know this was the third book in a series until I went to write this review, so it can totally be read as a standalone, as I didn’t feel like I was missing any background information that made the story seem out of sorts. This is the first I’ve read by this author, but it will not be the last. Well done, Erin Nicholas! Very well done!

TotallyHis-Quote-1 (1)

excerpt

Finn would have noticed her even if she hadn’t been wearing hot-pink lingerie. And nothing else.
He really would have. She was totally his type—brunette and curvy and, apparently, a little crazy. As evidenced by the fact that she was trying to sneak into a burning building. He did seem to be attracted to crazy. No matter how hard he tried not to be.
He watched the woman stop at the east corner of the Birch Community Playhouse, the one farthest from where the firefighters were working. Then he frowned as she slipped into the shadows along the side of the theater and out of sight.
Dammit. He started after her.
As one of the cops on scene, he had to keep the area clear for the firefighters and keep the crowd of onlookers safe. If one of them happened to have a great body and be dressed in nothing but a pink bra-and-panty set, well, he’d just call that a perk. And as he jogged across the street, Finn couldn’t help but wonder if she was in costume or if the alarm had caught her in the midst of a wardrobe change. If that was her outfit for the show, he might need to buy a ticket.
He turned the corner to the back of the building and looked around. He didn’t see her. She’d gone inside. Dammit. He climbed up the four steps that led to the back door of the theater.
Finn touched the door and found it cool. It seemed that the flames were still contained to the wall on the other end of the theater, but it was a mistake to assume anything when fire was involved.
He stepped inside and pulled the flashlight from his belt, then shone it back and forth. He turned a full circle, not sure where to go next. Just then Finn heard a door slam somewhere behind him. He swung toward the sound just in time to see the woman step out from a room.
Her eyes went wide when she saw him.
“Boston PD! Stop!” Finn shouted.
She had covered up. Kind of. She now wore a robe, short, sheer, and unbelted. Which really did nothing to cover his view of her panties and bra. Or all that skin.
And maybe that was why she suddenly took off at a run.
Finn stared after her for a moment, a little stunned. She was actually running from him?
The woman made it to the other end of the lobby and through one of the doors leading into the main theater before Finn got to her. He grabbed the door as it was swinging shut, nearly smashing his fingers. The lights were off in the inner theater but, as he plunged into the darkness, he got a big whiff of whatever body spray or perfume she wore. He took a deep breath. It was nice. Lemony. Sweet and…
Jesus. Finn scowled and turned his flashlight back on. He was thinking about how she smelled? How about the smell of smoke that was going to be chasing them both pretty soon?
“Hey!” he called into the theater. You have to come out, ma’am. It’s not safe for you to stay in the building.”
“Just give me a damned minute!” she shouted.
“I’m sorry, ma’am, I can’t do that,” Finn said.
“I have to find something. Then I’m coming right out.”
“Ma’am, I will have to remove you myself if you don’t come out immediately.”
“Oh, for fuck’s sake!” he heard her exclaim.
“Ma’am, this is your last warning. Stop what you’re doing and come with me.”
Enough of this. Finn stalked over to her, put a hand around her upper arm, and turned to remove her from the building.
She dug her heels in, though, pulling against his hold. “Hey, you can’t—”
“Oh, yes I can,” he told her calmly, careful to keep his eyes off her body. The heat from her skin had immediately soaked through the thin robe, and Finn felt it traveling from his palm up his arm. “I’ve given you several opportunities to cooperate.”
“You’re arresting me?” she asked.
“Are you doing something that you need to be arrested for?” he asked, moving her toward the door, even with her resisting.
“No! I need to get something. It’s very important. It belongs to a friend of mine. It’s irreplaceable.”
“Ma’am,” he said calmly, “don’t make me carry you out of here.”
She pulled against his grip and leaned all her weight into fighting the forward motion across the room.
Well, shit. He’d kind of figured it would come to this, but he wasn’t sure he was ready to touch her more. Still, it didn’t look as if he had a lot of choice. Reminding himself that he was a professional, he bent and hooked an arm behind her knees, looped the other around her back, and lifted her.
She gasped, and for a moment she didn’t fight. And he thought maybe the hard part was over. But as he headed out the door, trying to ignore how warm and soft and fucking lemony she was, she started to wiggle.

Q & A

Erin Nicholas CREDIT Lifetouch Portrait Studios Inc

TRC: Hi Erin. Congratulations on the release of TOTALLY HIS. We would like to start with some background information. Would you please tell us something about yourself?

Erin: Well, I’m a mom of two, wife of one, cat and coffee lover, who spends 10 hours a day with imaginary people ☺ I grew up in a house of book lovers and I’ve been writing my entire life—started out with short stories in elementary school—and published my first contemporary romance, my true love, in 2009.

TRC: Who or what influenced your career in writing?

Erin: I’ve always been a writer. I don’t remember a time I wasn’t making stories up! I’m sure a lot of it came from the stories I loved as a child and the fact that both of my parents were rarely seen without a book! Books were our rewards for things growing up—good grades, etc.—so a love for books and stories was engrained from a very young age. I’m so grateful for that!

TRC: What challenges or difficulties have you encountered writing and publishing your stories?

Erin: I’m very independent so it’s hard to sometimes have a lot of people weighing in on a project ☺ I guess that would be one thing! Lol! Another is dealing with negative reviews and harsh critics. I’ve gotten a tougher skin over the years, but those can sometimes really sting even now.

TRC: Would you please tell us something about the premise of TOTALLY HIS and the OPPOSITES ATTRACT series? How many books do you have planned for the series.

Erin: There are three books in the series… Totally His is number three, and the final one. The idea game when a friend and I were talking about The Big Bang Theory and how fun it would be for the roles to be reversed with Geeky Girls and Hot Guys ☺ And that became our tagline for the series… “The Big Bang Theory in reverse!” My daughter and her “geeky” interests (which I think are just really cool) – like superheroes, online communities, and theater – was the inspiration for all the heroines in this series. There’s a little piece of her in each of them.

TRC: What was your hardest scene ever to write?

Erin: Oh wow. The hardest scene ever? It’s every dark moment—that point in the story when all seems lost—in every book! I hate those. In fact, I usually write them early on so I get them over with and know where I’m going with the story ☺ The hardest one of those in any of my books? Wow, maybe the one in Going Down Easy, which is a new book coming out in March. The hero is completely guilt-ridden over finding out his young son is being bullied at school. That was really hard to write about what happened to his son and then the hero’s reaction to it and the way he pushes the heroine away because of it.

TRC: Thank you for taking the time to answer our questions. Congratulations on the release of TOTALLY HIS.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date October 31, 2017

He’s got every reason to be cocky . . . until a female cuts him down to size.

I’m Dallas Easton, the best goaltender in the league. I make a damn good living playing hockey, and with women falling at my feet wherever I go, why not enjoy it? I get whatever I want, whenever I want—that is, until I come across the one player who gets the best of me on the ice.

When I try to pummel the dude, all hell breaks loose. Imagine my surprise when the helmet comes off to reveal a woman underneath. And not just any woman, but the sexiest woman I’ve ever seen. Callie Davis is the complete opposite of the puck bunnies I usually go for, a good girl with sick moves and a selfless streak a mile wide. I need to make amends, but she dodges me at every turn. It doesn’t help that Callie’s brother hates my guts, or that my agent thinks she’s bad for my career.

But I could care less what they think. I can’t let our little run-in on the ice be the end of our story. Because when I set my sights on something, I won’t rest until I score.

••••••••••

REVIEW:  BLOCKED is the second instalment in L.P. Dover’s contemporary, adult BREAKAWAY erotic, romance, hockey series focusing on the men and women of the professional hockey team The Charlotte Strikers. This is twenty nine year old goalie Dallas Easton, and twenty six year old nurse Callie Davis’ story line. BLOCKED can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary. We were first introduced to Dallas in book one HARD STICK. Callie is the Charlotte Strikers’ Justin Davis’ younger sister.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Callie and Dallas) BLOCKED looks at the building but acrimonious relationship between the Charlotte Strikers goalie Dallas Easton, a bit of a manwhore by reputation, and nurse Callie Davis, a woman who can hold her own against our story line hero. Callie’s introduction to Dallas comes at a party where Dallas finds himself on the receiving end of a jealous boyfriend who gets physically violent with our story line hero; to add insult to injury an unsuspecting Dallas will come face to face with a woman who isn’t afraid to go one on one but a meeting that doesn’t end well for Dallas Easton. What ensues is the building relationship between Callie and Dallas, and the potential fall out as Callie’s over protective brothers intend to protect Callie from their less than worthy teammate; and an overzealous agent who intends to keeps Callie and Dallas apart.

The relationship between Callie and Dallas is one of immediate attraction but Dallas’ reputation as a manwhore and player precedes his introduction to our story line heroine. Puck bunnies aside, Dallas’ life is about to get more complicated when he is chosen as the ‘bachelor’ for the reality television series Rich and Single. Callie’s brothers intend to make Dallas’ life a living h*ll in order to protect the sister they love including running interference both on and off the ice but Callie makes our hero work just as hard to ‘prove’ he is worthy of her attention and love. The $ex scenes are intimate and seductive without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

The world building continues to look at the run for the Cup; the camaraderie between players, family, fans and the media; and the potential fall-out as past sins are slowly revealed.

There is a large ensemble case of secondary and supporting characters including Kristen and Kellan Carter (Hard Stick #1); Braeden Wallace, Coach Carlisle, and Maddox Ledger We are introduced to Callie’s twin brothers and sports agents Corey and Brant, as well as her brother Justin; her best friend and co-worker Hannah Martin, and Dr. Sands; as well as Dallas’ sister Lacey, and his parents Theresa and David Easton. There is some backstory and history between Lacey and Maddox that I am looking forward to the reveal.; and the developing relationship between Hannah and Corey.

BLOCKED is a story of family and friendship; of one man’s desire to change for the woman he loves, and one woman’s strength to look beyond the past. The premise is entertaining, inspiring and engaging; the characters are dynamic, edgy and spirited; the romance is passionate and uplifting. I did have to question some of the intended humor as our hero must ‘work’ for the heroine’s heart but humiliation is not on my list of proof of intention or love.
