ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date November 16, 2021.

From New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Tijan comes a new story in her Bennett Mafia universe…

Jonah Bennett wasn’t like his family. The mafia business was firmly what his brothers did, not him.

That changed the day a rival family killed his fiancée.

**Every 1001 Dark Nights novella is a standalone story. For new readers, it’s an introduction to an author’s world. And for fans, it’s a bonus book in the author’s series. We hope you’ll enjoy each one as much as we do.**

••••••••

REVIEW : JONAH BENNETT by Tijan is a contemporary, adult, erotic, romance novella found in the author’s BENNETT MAFIA series, and the latest instalment in the multi-authored 1001 Dark Nights. This is Dr. Jonah Bennett, and forensic technician Carson Dayley’s story line. JONAH BENNETT can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story line is revealed where necessary.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Carson and Jonah) JONAH BENNETT follows in the aftermath of the murder of Jonah Bennett’s fiancée, and Jonah’s attraction to the forensic technician Carson Dayley. Months would pass, the murder would go unsolved and Jonah never forgot about our story line heroine until the day she walked into one of the family owned nightclubs, a coincidence the Bennett family suspected to be orchestrated by someone else. Believing she was in town for her sister’s upcoming wedding, Carson never expected to come face to face with the grieving fiance, the man who stirred something deep within our story line heroine but a man whose family secrets ran dangerous and dark; a family who was now holding our heroine hostage as they searched for the truth. What ensues is the building romance and relationship between Carson and Jonah ,and the potential fall-out as the Bennett family has been targeted for sins of the past, and our heroine is currently in the direct line of fire.

Jonah Bennett knew he was loved by his half-siblings but always felt he didn’t quite belong. Studying medicine meant staying away from the family ‘business’ a business that was hurting the people he loved. Carson Dayley suspected the Bennett’s were more powerful than she could have ever imagined but our heroine never expected to pulled into a mob war, where she would become the ultimate prize.

The relationship between Carson and Jonah begins tempestuously as the Bennett family doesn’t trust our story line heroine. While Kai and Tanner Bennett begin to uncover the truth, Jonah’s relationship with Carson begins to turn into something more, something wherein Jonah become guardian and protector of the woman with whom he is falling in love. the $ex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

The secondary and supporting characters include the Bennett family siblings: Kai and Riley (Bennett Mafia 1), as well as Tanner and Brooke, several security personnel, Carson’s co-workers, and the discovery of Jonah’s extended family, a family he never knew but had always wanted to know.

JONAH BENNETT is a story of betrayal and vengeance, power and control, trust, relationships, family and love. The premise is emotional, dark but captivating; the romance is seductive; the characters are strong-willed, colorful and intense.

Jonah started around the end of the bed toward me, his head still down.
I took a breath, flattening my hand against my stomach. It was rumbling all over the place. “I don’t know what your family does, but I’m not dumb.” I tipped my head up.
He moved even closer.
“Jonah.” My voice was wobbly. He had to know I wouldn’t say anything, do anything. “It was very obvious that your family is wealthy—like, the type I didn’t even know existed. All the guards? That’s scary. Whatever your family does, I don’t want to know. I don’t need to know. I won’t say anything.”
He was in my space, but his eyes were soft. “It’s not that simple.”
It had to be. Panic was branding me from the inside out. I had to convince him of this.
Would they kill me?
No, this is Jonah.
My God. Why did I have blinders with this guy?
Jonah closed in, but he didn’t touch me. He stayed just out of touching distance, but he watched me, and I was flipping the fuck out.
I blinked away tears. “What are you going to do to me?”
He stared long and hard, as if looking inside of me. Then he reached up, his hand cupping the side of my face. “I remembered you, too, after that night. You showed me kindness when no one should’ve been doing that. You did. That meant something to me.”
I closed my eyes, wanting him to close the distance and wanting him to step away at the same time. Fear and desire pumped through my blood, heating me up. “Are you going to kill me?”
His hand flexed against my cheek.
I opened my eyes, finding his gaze on my lips.
Oh man. What was he thinking?
“Jonah,” I whispered.
His eyes flickered, coming back into focus.
“What are yo—”
“No.” That’s all he said before he lowered his head, and his mouth touched mine.
I gasped, grasping his wrist.
He pulled back. Lust had darkened his eyes, but he was holding, waiting.
He was waiting for me.
My heart thumped against my chest. I knew what I wanted.
Need flooded me. The ache inside me spread outward.
I started without fully admitting to myself what I was going to do. I moved closer, my lips searching for his, and after another second’s hesitation, I let go of his wrist. I grabbed his shirt and raised up on my toes.
I found him this time, and all the hesitation was over.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date November 16, 2021

From the moment I laid eyes on her, Kinley was mine.

At fifteen years old I was determined to make it happen, but we were on and off for years until I got it right between us and finally made her my wife.

We were supposed to be forever.

So in love.
So devoted.
So consumed with each other.
But somewhere along the way we lost sight of that love.

Ten years later and that love became anger. That devotion began to crumble, and we were consumed with resentment of life not working out the way we had planned.

We meant it when we vowed for better or for worse…

So why the hell were we signing divorce papers?

•••••••

REVIEW: SECOND CHANCE VOW by M. Robinson is the second instalment in a series of interconnected, contemporary, adult, erotic, romance story lines. This is English professor Kinley McKenzie-Troy, and OB/GYN Christian Troy’s story line. SECOND CHANCE VOW can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story line is revealed where necessary. Kinley and Christian were first introduced in book one SECOND CHANCE CONTRACT originally titled ALPHA CEO.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Kinley and Christian) using present day and memories from the past, SECOND CHANCE VOW follows in the wake of Kinley Troy demanding a divorce from Christian Troy, her husband and the man that she loves. Kinley and Troy have loved one another from the first time they met; high school sweethearts from opposite sides of the track Kinley and Troy’ s twenty year love affair has struggled for close to ten years following one devastating night that changed their lives forever. Kinley Troy hasn’t been happy for a very long time, and Christian hides his disappointment by working long hours, leaving his wife always alone but a surprise revelation pushes our couple back together, a revelation that had been a long time coming. What ensues is the rebuilding romance and relationship between Kinley and Christian, as the reader is up close and personal with twenty years of heartbreak, pain, betrayal and trust.

Kinley McKenzie’s earlier years were fraught with neglect and abuse, and our heroine found solace in Christian Troy but Kinley’s life long, best friend Jax Colton has always been a proverbial burr in our hero’s side, a burr that is always there for our story line heroine. Christian has never stopped loving the woman who had stolen his heart and his soul but years of disappointment and heart break have forced our couple in different directions.

The relationship between Christian and Kinley is one of second chances; a rebuilding romance in the wake of our heroine filing for divorce, and the revelations of what their future will hold. The $ex scenes are intimate, passionate and seductive.

We are reintroduced to Christian’s sister Autumn Troy-Locke, and his best friend and Autumn’s husband Julian Locke(Alpha CEO/Second Chance Contract), as well as Kinley’s best friend Jax Colton, Kinley’s mother Linda, and Christian’s parents Emma and Steven Troy.

SECOND CHANCE VOW is a story of heart break, pain, and grief; enabling and addiction; acceptance and love. The premise is emotional-the author does a wonderful job dragging out the suspense; the romance is captivating; the characters are desperate, lost and struggling.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date November 16, 2021.

They say the price of freedom is learning that you have nothing left to lose.

Time passes and I’m moving forward, persevering beyond my loss, and making a new name for myself. And then I’m given an assignment.

One job.
One quest.

If I fail, there will be no more chances.

Men like me aren’t saviors, and that isn’t my assignment. My mission is to find the daughter of one of the most powerful men in New York, in the country, and maybe the world. Find her and deliver her to her family’s rival.

Cecilia Abernathy has been kidnapped. All I have to do is exchange her current hell for another. And then I can walk away and claim my reward.

Has my taste of freedom made me willing to sell my soul for a kingdom?

REVIEW:KINGDOM COME by Aleatha Romig is a contemporary, adult, dark, erotic, criminal underworld romance story line found in the multi-authored UNDERWORLD KINGS. This is twenty-nine year old Dellinger hotel heiress Cecilia Abernathy, and Greyson Ingalls aka Kyle O’Brien’s story line. KINGDOM COME can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Kyle O’Brien was first introduced in the author’s DEVIL’S DUET duology.

WARNING: Due to the nature of the story line premise, there may be triggers for more sensitive readers.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Greyson and Cecilia) KINGDOM COME follows in the wake of the kidnapping and abduction of heiress Cecilia Abernathy. Hired by a business and powerful rival of the Abernathy family to locate and rescue our heroine, Greyson Ingalls finds himself in the middle of a war for control, and Cecilia is the ultimate prize but as Greyson digs deeper, with Cecilia by his side, a fractured family dynamic comes to light, and Greyson knows that to hand over Cecilia is the proverbial frying pan into the fire. On the run, their every location compromised, and their possessions destroyed, Greyson and Cecilia turn to one another for comfort until it is time for Cecilia to return home. What ensues is the building relationship between Cecilia and Greyson, and the potential fall-out as the truth behind the abduction reveals the dangerous and dark world for the women in the Dellinger-Abernathy family.

Greyson Ingalls is an enigma; a proverbial ghost; a fixer of sorts, hired by the rich and powerful when discretion is required, and danger is a given but Greyson is not the man he presents to the world-that man is long dead and buried, and Greyson walks the fringes of society where the dark and dangerous secrets have yet to be revealed. Cecilia Abernathy works for her grandfather’s chain of Dellinger Hotels but never expected to find herself the victim of a kidnapping, assault and humiliation. Believing her family would do anything to get her back, our heroine will quickly discover that her life is more valuable as an asset than anything else.

The relationship between Cecilia and Greyson begins as a rescue; a forced proximity affair wherein time spent together brings our couple closer together. Both experienced in the world of IT and backdoor espionage, Cecilia and Greyson must work together to uncover the truth, a truth in which Cecilia is the ultimate pawn. The $ex scenes are passionate, erotic and intense.

There is a large ensemble cast of colorful, energetic and questionable secondary and supporting characters: bartender/former spy Josie Romero, Cecilia’s parents Barron and Elizabeth Dellinger-Abernathy, grandfather Lorenzo Dellinger, her uncle Dante Dellinger, underworld business rival Maxwell Tiller and his son Jethro. The requisite evil has many familiar faces.

KINGDOM COME is a story of betrayal and abuse, power, money, greed and control, manipulation, revelations, determination and love. The premise is dramatic, dark, gritty and haunting; the characters are edgy and tragic; the romance is provocative and intense.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date November 15, 2021

It wasn’t fair that the man I hated with a passion was so freaking gorgeous.

Things in Layla Fox’s life were going great. She had a fantastic job, amazing friends, and a killer apartment. There was just one tiny glitch in all that perfect. Her upstairs neighbor was the very definition of tall, dark, and handsome . . . and she hated the man with every cell in her body.

Jude Kingsley was the most arrogant jerk she’d ever met, making the fact that she was attracted to him more than a little inconvenient.

When the two of them are forced together by Jude’s meddling grandmother, the bitter rivalry between the two feuding neighbors suddenly turns into something very different. And a raw, intense chemistry like theirs is bound to explode if they aren’t careful.

••••••••

REVIEW:Knockout by Jessica Prince is the second book in the Whiskey Dolls series, and LOL does this book give prank wars a whole new meaning!

Layla and Jude are freaking hilarious! You will laugh your booty off reading this story, it’s fun, sexy and exceptionally produced. Layla and Jude are at each other’s throats from the second they meet, but their chemistry is smoking hot. I downloaded this book, and was flipping through the pages faster and faster for more and more of all the goodness.

Poor Jude…all that boot leather has got to taste just awful….*Snicker*

From the very beginning of the book you could tell between Layla and Jude that while their pranks were funny, they also had this deep connection that I think scared them both at first. Both having their own conflicts to work through helped move the story along, but with the main character and Jude and his Grandma, it was so much fun! The level of sass in this book is to die for, and when I tell you Jude’s grandma is a pistol, she is the OG.

Jessica Prince has always put so much heart and soul into her books, and Knockout has it in spades! Top book of 2021, the Whiskey Dolls is gonna be a definite new favorite series! Five star review from this reader.

The doors of the elevator slid open and the good mood I’d been in all day evaporated like a single drop of water falling onto desert sand.”Of freaking course,” I grumbled sullenly as Jude Kingsley stepped into the elevator.

He returned my glare before stopping beside me and turned to face the front. “And I’d been having such a good day up to this point,” he muttered bitterly.

I let out a snort and fluttered my eyelashes. “What, did you pop a little kid’s balloon? Maybe cut in front of a pregnant lady in line at the coffee shop?” I snapped my fingers. “Oh, I know! You kicked a poor, innocent puppy on the sidewalk. That’s what had you so chipper, isn’t it?”

He gave me a smirk, and damn it, why did it have to look so good on him? The son of a bitch.

“I woke up happy,” he stated, and it would have been a lie if I claimed I didn’t find that admission somewhat intriguing.

Turning to face me, he took a step toward me, closing some of the distance between us. The move was unexpected, and my heartrate spiked at his closeness. The small elevator car suddenly felt even tinier, like the walls were closing in. The air was filled with his scent. Something like cedar and sun mixed with a spicy musk that reminded me of the outdoors. My chest stuttered on a choppy inhale when I tilted my head back to look up at him. In all the months we’d been enemies, this had to be the first time we’d been so close to each other.

With hardly any space between us, I was able to see that those midnight blue eyes of his also held flecks of golden honey. He blinked slowly as he stared down at me, those long, sooty lashes lying across his sharp cheekbones before he opened them again.

“I had the best dream last night.” He stopped, waiting for me to ask what he dreamed about, like he knew that statement and his proximity had left me way off-kilter, my curiosity piqued.

Stupid intuitive jerk.

Unable to help myself, I arched a questioning brow. “Oh?”

His voice dropped lower, taking on an almost velvety soft quality. “Yeah. You were in it, princess.”

My skin felt tingly, my mouth was Sahara dry. I didn’t feel like myself all of a sudden. It was almost as if he’d cast a spell, and I was just along for the ride, unable—or maybe unwilling at that point—to take control back. It was those eyes, man. Those freaking dark, alluring, sexy bedroom eyes. There wasn’t a woman in the world who’d be able to resist their power up close. Not even me.

I tried to swallow past the cotton taking up residence in my throat and croaked, “What—what was your dream about?”

He started speaking in a tone that could only be described as intoxicating. “Well, you see, it was a beautiful, sunny day, and we were standing on the sidewalk outside the building. You were in these jeans that made your ass look incredible.” His tongue peeked out and swiped across his plump bottom lip. “I couldn’t stop staring. Then . . . ”

I was straight up enraptured at that moment.

Oh my God. What is happening right now? “Then what?”

“Then . . . you stepped off the curb and got hit by a bus.” It was like a bucket of ice water being dumped over my head. Whatever voodoo he was working broke right then, and I remembered instantly that I wanted this man to die by a thousand papercuts—preferable by my hand.

Born and raised around Houston Texas, Jessica spent most of her life complaining about the heat, humidity, and all around pain in the ass weather. It was only as an adult that she quickly realized the cost of living in Houston made up for not being able to breathe when she stepped outside. That’s why God created central air, after all.

Jessica is the mother of a perfect little boy–she refuses to accept that he inherited her attitude and sarcastic nature no matter what her husband says.

In addition to being a wife and mom, she’s also a wino, a coffee addict, and an avid lover of all types of books–romances still being her all time favs. Her husband likes to claim that reading is her obsession but she just says it’s a passion…there’s a difference. Not that she’d expect a boy to understand.

Jessica has been writing since she was a little girl, but thankfully grew out of drawing her own pictures for her stories before ever publishing her first book. Because an artist she is not.

Sandy’s Review

A SENSE OF DANGER is the first instalment in Jennifer Estep’s contemporary, adult SECTION 47 paranormal, urban fantasy series focusing on paramortal analyst / diner waitress for Section 47 Charlotte Locke, and assassin/cleaner Desmond Percy.

SOME BACKGROUND: Paramortals make up approximately one percent of the world’s population, and most have hidden their magic from the ‘mortal’ world. Section 47 is a paramortal spy organization whose mission was to gather intelligence to prevent terrorist attacks but found themselves tracking those who use magic to commit their crimes.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Charlotte and Desmond) A SENSE OF DANGER focuses on the take down of a paramortal bio-terrorist, and the search for a mole within Section 47. Charlotte Locke is a legacy member at Section 47, meaning her father, and grandmother were previously employed by Section 47. As an analyst Charlotte has the ability to read patterns and numbers and sense danger but as a human lie detector Charlotte knows when someone may or may not be telling the truth. Upon the death of her boss, Charlotte is reassigned as a liason, working with the Section’s latest arrival, cleaner and assassin Desmond Percy, whose own father continues to make a name for himself at Section 47. Desmond is on the hunt for a paramortal bio-terrorist but his every move is met with counter terrorism and resistance such that his last mission left him struggling to survive. With the help of Charlotte Locke, Desmond is hunting down the person responsible but struggles to trust the woman with whom he is falling in love as Charlotte’s secrets run dangerous and dark. What ensues is the set up and take down of a mole within the Section 47 organization, and the potential fall-out as Desmond believes Charlotte has been compromised but Charlotte has bigger plans when all is revealed.

Jennifer Estep introduces a number of players in the world of Section 47 including some of the backstory and history of Charlotte’s legacy connections, and Desmond’s father General Jethro Percy. There is a large ensemble cast of secondary and supporting characters giving the series a familiarity not unlike the author’s Elemental Assassin. We are introduced to cleaner supervisor Gia Chan, and ‘secretary’ Evelyn Hawkes, former Section 47 spy Gabriel Chase, as well as charmer Miriam Lancaster, charmer supervisor Trevor Donnelly, Russian paramortal Adrian Anatoly, and CEO and founder of Hyde Engineering Henrika Hyde.

A SENSE OF DANGER is a fast paced, intriguing, action packed story of betrayal and vengeance, power and magic, obsession, murder, greed and excess. The premise is captivating and compelling; the characters are energetic and enterprising; the romance is seductive and passionate.

___________

Barb’s Review:

A Sense of Danger by Jennifer Estep is the 1st book in her new Section 47 series.  I am a big fan of Jennifer Estep, having enjoyed all her fantastic series.  I was thrilled to learn that she was starting a new series, and after reading the first book, I can’t wait for more.

Secret 47 is a secret government agency that handles paranormal, terrorists, criminals, and have magical abilities.  Their job is to gather information to prevent attacks, casualties, as well as to protect the mortal world; especially against those who create dangerous weapons.

Charlotte Locke, our heroine, is an analyst, who is very good at her job analyzing various reports and files to find mistakes, patterns, and anything that looks like threats.  Charlotte also has some magical abilities, such as having synesthesia ability to sense danger and detect lies. Charlotte followed her grandmother and father who were Section 47 employees, and she is considered a legacy employee, since her family (now deceased) were former employees.  Charlotte has been providing information to her superiors about an evil and dangerous woman (Henrika Hyde), who is building and selling horrific weapons to the enemy.

Desmond Percy, our hero, is a Section 47 Assassin (cleaners), who is considered one of the best and lethal. Desmond is also a legacy employee, as his father is a powerful member and very much in charge of Section 47. Desmond has returned to headquarters in Washington, DC for a special assignment, but also determined to find the person responsible for killing his teammates from his last assignment.

When Charlotte is having lunch, she sees a strange man sit at her table, but she totally ignores him, and he eventually walks away. Charlotte is very much in debt, due to her father death and loss of money, and takes a night time second job as a waitress. After closing, she heads home only to be accosted by 4 assassins who are out to kill her; she is attacked, but out of nowhere, another powerful assassin manages to kill the attackers, and he takes her to her home, and uses his energy magic to heal her injuries.  Of course, her savior is Desmond, who has galvanist abilities, which uses energy around him to prevent attacks, as well as heal.

Charlotte wakes up healed, and in a short time will learn that Desmond was the one who saved her, and despite her original dislike of him, she will soon be placed on his team to work together; especially since she is the one who knows everything about the enemy.   Their job is to find Henrika Hyde, and stop her from selling her weapons, as well as find the terrorist who was behind the attack on Desmond’s team.

What follows is an exciting, action filled, suspenseful story that kept me unable to put the book down. Charlotte was a great heroine, as she not only smart, savvy, but unbeknownst to others, lethal with a weapon, since she learned from her father.  I also liked Desmond, as he was not only a sexy hunk, but also very confident with his ability.   It took time for them to trust each other, but the chemistry between them was hot; which was a slow burn romance.

Charlotte stepped up to find a traitor within Section 47, even if it put her own life in danger.  The last third of the book was extremely tense and exciting, with a few surprises along the way. Since she took it upon herself to expose the traitor, her relationship with Desmond suffered, as he thought she betrayed him.  I will not tell too much more, as it would be spoilers, but it was a wild satisfying ending.

A Sense of Danger is another wonderful new intriguing urban fantasy series that is very well written by Jennifer Estep.  I loved both Charlotte and Desmond, and look forward to more on them in future books.   I suggest you read A Sense of Danger, as I fully enjoyed it.

Told from first person perspective (Helena) FILTHY CREATURES follows thirty-six year old Helena Graves, club owner/monster hunter/ and single mother as she is tasked with finding a missing child. It is Halloween, and Helena’s club is hosting the MMA style supernatural fights but when one her her employee’s child goes missing, Helena calls in the shifters to ‘sniff’ out a possible lead, revealing a vampire is the likely suspect in the child’s abduction. She doesn’t have time to get dragged into shifter politics. But she can’t sit back and do nothing when the shifters and vampires are on the brink of war, not when her boyfriend Dominick is a vampire, and her best friend Henry is a werelion.

Unfortunately, when a pack of wolves attack Helena, tensions between the two supernatural groups grow even more strained.

Will help come for them in time, or will the monsters finally get the better of the hunter?

REVIEW: POWER HUNGRY is the second instalment in L. West’s contemporary, adult MONSTER HUNTER FOR HIRE paranormal romance series focusing on club owner/monster hunter for hire Helena Graves. POWER HUNGRY can be read as a stand alone but I recommend reading the series in order for back story and cohesion as their is a continuing premise throughout.

Told from first person perspective (Helena Graves) POWER HUNGRY follows Helena as she prepares for her daughter’s eighteenth birthday, a birthday that should reveal her daughter’s potential powers but a war is about to be declared between the shifters and the vampire, and our heroine is caught in the middle when she is offered a lucrative contract to kill them all. Not only is Helena’s lover Dom a vampire, but her best friend Henry, is a were lion, and in this, our heroine refuses to kill in the name of speciesism and hate. All is not well in the were shifter community when both Henry and Helena are targeted in a fight to the death but a betrayal finds Helena struggling in her personal life, a life that has quickly spiralled out of control.

POWER HUNGRY is a quick read; a revealing and action packed story of betrayal and vengeance; power and control; secrets and lies; revelations and understanding. Helena Graves is a monster hunter but may very well be a descendant of one of the supernatural races she is hired to kill.

REVIEW: SPOOKSHOW BABY is the third instalment and novella in L. West’s contemporary, adult MONSTER HUNTER FOR HIRE paranormal, romance series focusing on club owner/monster hunter for hire Helena Graves. SPOOKSHOW BABY should not be read as a stand alone as it picks up after the events of POWER HUNGRY.

Told from first person perspective (Helena Graves) SPOOKSHOW BABY follows our heroine as she must come to terms with the new direction of her life but when several of her friends, and club workers are found dead and apparently sacrificed to Satan, our heroine must return to her roots, and face the man who broke her heart, her daughter’s father Aiden. All does not go well with Aiden, a warlock of immense power, when he refuses to help, once again, pushing Helena out of his life but the number of bodies is increasing, and Helena’s own life is rapidly changing, including the appearance of a mythological creature who claims to be our heroine’s grandfather, and the destroyer of mankind. As Helena, and her intrepid group of supernatural lovers must face down the ultimate demon, said demon may become a permanent fixture in the lives of everyone Helena loves.

SPOOKSHOW BABY reveals a little bit about Helena’s past, the conception of her daughter, and the rejection by the man she continues to love but SPOOKSHOW BABY also reveals the ongoing love of one woman for three men, and the potential future for a polyamorous/ reverse harem relationship, and the growing family from which a demonic entity is claiming paternal rights. The fast paced premise is intriguing and entertaining; the characters are energetic, powerful and lost to the love of a very special woman.

Although she waited until she was in her 40’s to publish for the first time, writing has been a lifelong passion. Her motivation to take that step was her students: teaching creative writing to elementary age students all the way up through high school and encouraging those students to follow their writing dreams gave Samantha the confidence to take that step as well.

REVIEW:FIGHTING FOR AMETHYST by Deanndra Hall is the first instalment in the multi-authored contemporary, adult Police and Fire: Operation Alpha: Tarple VFD romance series based on characters created by author Susan Stoker. This is forty three year old, volunteer fire fighter/ former US soldier turned rancher Jackson Frame, and twenty-one year old Amethyst Meadows’ story line.

Told from third person perspective FIGHTING FOR AMETHYST focuses on the building romance and relationship between forty-three year old, volunteer fire fighter/ former US soldier turned rancher Jackson Frame, and twenty-one year old Amethyst Meadows. Days after discovering she was pregnant, twenty-one year old, college student Amethyst Meadows found herself alone, struggling to make ends meet, and despondent about her lack of a future. Heading home with her proverbial tail between her legs, Amethyst would come face to face with her future in the guise of volunteer fire fighter/ former US soldier turned rancher Jackson Frame when her car ran out of gas. Within days of meeting, Amethyst would move in with our hero but Amethyst’s past was refusing to accept our heroine’s choice for the future, and was determined to end any and all connections to her past. What ensues is the rapidly building romance and relationship between Amethyst and Jackson, and the potential fall-out as Amethyst’s past is resolved to destroy our heroine’s life.

Jackson Frame is a former US soldier whose time spent in service left our hero a shell of his former self. Meeting Amethyst Meadows, the daughter of his friend and fellow volunteer fire fighter Gant Meadows, gave Jackson thoughts for a future, a future he never thought he would have again. Amethyst Meadows world was spiralling out of control. Her boyfriend of several years had been making her life miserable and with the announcement of her pregnancy, Amethyst found herself afraid and alone. With the only option of going home, Amethyst knew that to protect her baby, she would have to ensure a future for them both.

The relationship between Amethyst and Jackson is an age-gap, May-December, insta-love relationship wherein Jackson is determined to claim Amethyst and her unborn child as his own. Amethyst has only known and met Jackson Frame a handful of times but without hesitation, Amethyst is willing to move in , and start a new life with the man with whom she had instantly fallen in love. The limited $ex scenes are passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text but saying that I didn’t feel the palpable sexual attraction between our leading couple, and the insta lust-love was totally unbelievable under the circumstances. The relationship wreaked of desperation for both parties.

We are introduced to Amethyst’s father Gant and her wife Lorna, Amethyst’s sister Sapphire, and their step brother Tank; Jackson’s brother Wyman and his wife Chimlin, as well as several members of the volunteer fire fighters, and Amethyst’s ex boyfriend Craven Bradshaw.

FIGHTING FOR AMETHYST is a story of betrayal and vengeance, loss and grief, relationships, family and love. The premise is engaging but I had a difficult time enjoying a story that I found hard to believe. In fact, the writing does not ‘feel’ like any of the previous Deanndra Hall’s instalments in the multi-authored Police and Fire series-the heroine was childish and immature; the male/female sex oriented roles were classically defined, and our heroine’s ‘nickname’ for Jackson was …just…icky. FIGHTING FOR AMETHYST was a bit of a struggle for this reader-here’s hoping future instalments are more to my liking.
