Told from first person perspectives (Nadia) and third person (Riggs) THE WOMAN BY THE LAKE follows Nadia Williams as she takes a leave of absence from her job, escaping the memories left behind in Chicago, Renting a cabin by the lake in Misted Pines, Nadia would come face to face with her neighbor, contractor Doc Riggs, the man with whom Nadia would fall in love but all was not well in Misted Pines, and the cabin she was renting would become the focus of ghost stories, hauntings, and a case of unsolved murders. As Nadia, Riggs, and Sheriff Harry Moran began to research the history of a family murder, Riggs would find himself embroiled in his own family squabble with the mother of his nine year old son. What ensues is the building romance and relationship between Nadia and Riggs, and the potential fall-out as our couple, and the town of Misted Pines must reconsider what happened in the past and why.

The world building follows several paths; is detailed and intriguing as Misted Pines holds too many demons that have yet to let go. Add the usual small -town gossip and busybodies, as well as those who deem themselves above everyone else, and our couple must contend with secrets and gossip wherever they go.

The relationships between Nadia and Riggs begins acrimoniously as Riggs is known to throw obnoxiously loud parties. Nadia was hoping for to take time to rest, relax and reconsider her future but never expected to find herself falling for a man, and his nine year old son. The $ex scenes are passionate and intimate without the use of over the opt, sexually graphic language and text.

There is a large ensemble cast of colorful, enthusiastic and often questionable secondary and supporting characters. We are witness to the return of Cade and Delphine (The Girl in the Mist 1), Rus Lazarus (The Girl in the Woods) as well as Sheriff Harry Moran. We are introduced to Riggs’ son Ledger, as well as Rigg’s mom Gail, and friends Storm and Viggo, Bubbles and Lucille, Rigg’s questionable ex Angelina, and several local residents of Misted Pines.

THE WOMAN BY THE LAKE is a story of secrets and lies, murder and mystery, betrayal and obsession, family and friendships, relationships and love. The thought provoking premise is intriguing, haunting and dramatic; the romance is seductive and intense; the characters are stubborn, honest and charismatic

Kristen Ashley was born in Gary, Indiana, USA. She nearly killed her mother and herself making it into the world, seeing as she had the umbilical cord wrapped around her neck (already attempting to accessorise and she hadn’t taken her first breath!).

Kristen grew up in Brownsburg, Indiana but has lived in Denver, Colorado and the West Country of England. Thus she has been blessed to have friends and family around the globe. Her posse is loopy (to say the least) but loopy is good when you want to write.

Kristen was raised in a house with a large and multi-generational family. They lived on a very small farm in a small town in the heartland and existed amongst the strains of Glenn Miller, The Everly Brothers, REO Speedwagon and Whitesnake (and the wardrobes that matched).

Needless to say, growing up in a house full of music, clothes and love was a good way to grow up.

And as she keeps growing up, it keeps getting better.

Told from dual omniscient third person perspectives (Haisley and Nash) using present day and memories from the past, WICKED AND RUTHLESS follows the second chance relationship between our story line couple. Approximately two years earlier Haisley Rowe walked away from the man that she loves but her aunt’s death brought Haisley back to Lafayette, Louisiana where she will come face to face with the man she once loved but Haisley never expected to be working with Nash Scott after a series of abductions from the local mall pull our couple together. REVIEW: BRUTAL POWER is the third instalment in BB Hamel’s contemporary, adult BIANCO CRIME FAMILY erotic, Mafia romance series set in the author’s ROSSI CRIME FAMILY world. This is thirty-five year old attorney and head of the Irish Crime Family Brody Quinn, and Mafia princess Elena Bianco’s story line. BRUTAL POWER can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty but I recommend reading the series in order for backstory and cohesion.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Elena and Brody) BRUTAL POWER follows the arrange marriage between our story line couple. Brody Quinn is the new head of the Irish Crime Family, and in an effort to secure power and position, makes a deal with Don Simon Bianco, including asking for his sister’s hand in marriage. Elena and Brody have never met, and in this, another threat from within, forces a marriage within days but someone else is determined to take control, and Brody is about to place himself in the direct line of fire. What ensues is the building romance and relationship between Brody and Elena, and the potential fall-out as family history and secrets threatens the Bianco family while Brody continues to work behind the scenes.

The world building follows Brody as he puts a plan into motion to take control but all is not as it appears to be, and Brody finds himself working with the Bianco’s in an effort to take control.

The relationship between Brody and Elena begins as an arranged marriage. Elena wants a marriage in name only but quickly discovers there is more to Brody than a brooding head of the Irish Mob. As their relationship continues to grow, Brody must make concessions to keep his new wife happy. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate but I dislike the use of a certain four-letter word, although only used once, it felt unnecessary.

All of the previous story line couples and family members return including Simon and Emily; Davide and Stefania, Laura, Elena, and their parents Alessandro and Freddie. We are introduced to Brody’s large extended family: Seamus, Nolan, Molly, Declan, Caitlin, and their mother Orla Quinn: crime boss Luciano Santoro, and dirty cop Luca Moretti.

BRUTAL POWER is a story of secrets and lies, twists and turns, power and control, betrayal and obsession, acceptance and love. The premise is intriguing,captivating and engaging; the romance is seductive; the characters are desperate, dynamic and powerful.

The Vampire is determined to take control, annihilate every civilization, but never expected to come up against Zeno, a demi-god who has been chosen by an otherworldly power. More than ten years earlier, Zeno’s best friend Alexandra would be sent away for her protection, and in the ensuing years, would herself become a powerful warrior. Reconnecting years later, Zeno and Alexandra continue to profess their love but the Vampire is taking aim, separating our couple, once again. THUMOS RISING is an action-packed, multi-layered, exceedingly complex, and detailed story line using virtually every type of fictionalized creature from the supernatural to science fiction, and several others created for this tale. Using mashed-up words from Greek and Roman mythology, Latin and English, THUMOS RISING is a complicated tale of power and control, war and madness, as an alien priestess reveals the chosen to lead an offensive against the Vampire, and his army of the ‘undead’. There is an inordinate number of characters, worlds, peoples and names, and in this, the info-dumping is exorbitant, way beyond a simple or easy read-I could not fathom the pronunciation of many of the names and worlds. A well-written and elaborate yet convoluted and difficult read . THUMOS RISING ends on a cliff hanger-you have been warned.

REVIEW:Time travelling romance is not my usual go to genre, but pushing myself to read something different.

And I’m glad I did…..

Jaye has grown up with hearing how her grandmother travelled through time. It was put down to an old woman’s flights of fancy. No one really believed the old woman, and to prove her grandmother daydreamed the whole thing, Jaye goes to the town in Bolivia. But the last laugh is on the grandmother’s daughter….. Waking up in a cave, Jaye needs to have her wits about her.

Lucas was accused of murdering his wife on their wedding night…. Closing the family home, he vows no one will ever get close to his heart again!!

300 years in the past, we find Jaye finally believing her grandma’s tales! They were true, but how can she get back to her own time? Does she really want to be stuck here?

Reading the blurb I did get a little confused! Is Jaye a reincarnation of her grandma? How does this time travel work?

But carry on reading and everything becomes clear. It’s a short story so bear in mind that the couple don’t have a lot of pages to fall in love! Can they really overcome all the obstacles that are thrown in their way?

Will Lucas open his heart and believe his lost life has come back? Can Jaye make a life for herself in the past? And if she does, then she’ll never see her family again!

As I said, it’s a short story. But it’s packed full of emotions and events. Really well written and thought out. Apparently it was from an anthology, so it’s be rewritten a little, and there is another story (think it’s her grandmother’s story, but I’m not 100% sure)

I’d recommend this if you’re a lover of time travelling romance.

A quick, fun romance that packs a lifetime in.

REVIEW: CAPTIVE CONSORT is the first novella in the contemporary, adult THANATOS COVEN erotic, paranormal romance series co-authored by Jade Marshall and Rose Wulf. This is vampire Kyson, and human Scarlet’s story line.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Kyson and Scarlet) CAPTIVE CONSORT follows in the wake of the abduction of our story line heroine. Scarlet never had the best life back home but never expected to be sold to a man whose secrets threaten the reality of her world. Kyson is a one-hundred and eighty year old vampire who has finally found his fated mate, a human woman whose premonitions have brought our couple together but the vampire has a powerful enemy, a facet of the human population known as jagters, and the jagters have taken aim at the Thanatos Coven. What ensues is the rapidly building relationship between Scarlet and Kyson, as Scarlet’s welcome to the Coven is mired by the attack against the people she will some day call friends.

The world building introduces the some of the players in a war between human and vampires, as well as the introduction of several characters including Coven leader Aziel, Luther and his mate Lily, and several new arrivals to strengthen the Thanatos Coven.

The relationship between Kyson and Scarlet begins as an abduction but Scarlet and Kyson have been dream walking together for what seems like forever. Kyson knows Scarlet is his fated mate but Scarlet has no idea about the existence of vampires. The $ex scenes are limited but erotic and passionate.

CAPTIVE CONSORT is a fast paced story of secrets, power, acceptance and love. The premise is entertaining and engaging; the romance is fated and provocative but I dislike the use of a certain four-letter word, although only used once but more for shock value than anything else. The characters are charismatic and powerful.
