ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date February 19, 2025

I’ve crafted my new life in Ember Falls with two simple rules: maintain superficial relationships and always be ready to run.

But when my son’s incredibly hot hockey coach Miles Anderson walks in, things get very, very complicated.

With his charming smile and our accidental dates, he’s the exact opposite of any man I’ve ever dated. That should make saying yes to being with him simple, but nothing in my life is easy.

In fact, it’s a mess.

Miles makes me smile and treats my son like his own. When we’re together, I forget about my troubles and dream of a life that I will never be able to have with him.

It’s only a matter of time until the past comes knocking and I’ll have to leave, breaking us both in the process.

•••••

REVIEW:I really do love a good small town romance! Here and Now is the next installment in the Ember Falls series. As always, I do recommend reading the series in order, book one All Too Well is such a sweet story with characters that are also featured in H&N.

Miles Anderson isn’t your typical nerd, sure he has the glasses and pocket protector, but this man is all kinds of sexy. As principal of the local school, he was borned and raised in Ember Falls, a place he always comes back to. He also is the coach to the little league hockey planners, his nephews team, this leads him to Kai and his mother Penelope. It’s a goofy meet-cute for them, but something keeps drawing him back to her, something about her that he just can’t get out of his head. He brings her coffee just to spend time with her and treats Kai like his own.

Penelope has had it rough. She and her young son make the move to Ember Falls for a new being and to be ready at a moment’s notice to leave again. No friends, no connections, no feelings. Always on the run, always moving, keeping Kai safe no matter what. All her plans go out the window when Miles wedges his way into their lives, and the most scary thing about it? She doesn’t mind him there.

What an adventure! Small-town romances have always been a one click buy for me, but this one is a fantastic read. Shy, single Mom on the run with her young son, meets a hot nerd who wants to take care of them no matter what, all wrapped in a suspenseful mystery sprinkled with spice. Nothing is better than that.

HIGH DENSITY (High Mountain Trackers HMT G2 #3) by Freya Barker

🩵HIGH DENSITY (High Mountain Trackers HMT G2 #3) by Freya Barker-review tour🩵

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date February 17, 2025

Since taking over the veterinary clinic in Libby, Montana last year, Janey Richards has been burning the candle at both ends. She’s grateful she is busy, but there has barely been any time to build a life outside of work. To help pay down her debt faster, she agrees to take on responsibility for the livestock at Libby’s annual rodeo, but perhaps she should’ve thought twice about the added stress.

Although, her personal life is definitely looking up.

JD Watike never thought he’d end up following in his father’s footsteps, but he’s found his stride these past six years as a member of the High Mountain Trackers team. He enjoys the simplicity of small-town living, which has only gotten more interesting since Doc Richards appeared on the scene.

Spending most of the past year patiently observing from a distance, the time feels right for him to make his move.

Or at least to clear up some misunderstandings.

The opportunity presents itself sooner than expected, when the pretty veterinarian stumbles onto some serious criminal activity at the Libby Roundup, and a young woman disappears from the grounds, he has plenty of cause to stay glued to her side.

•••••

REVIEW: HIGH DENSITY is the third instalment in Freya Barker’s contemporary adult HIGH MOUNTAIN TRACKERS HMT G2 erotic, romantic suspense series, a second generation spin off, set in the author’s HIGH MOUNTAIN TRACKERS series. This is thirty-eight year old, veterinarian Dr. Janey Richards, and thirty-four year old, rancher JD Watike’s story line. HIGH DENSITY can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary.

NOTE: Due to the nature of the story line premise, there may be triggers for more sensitive readers.

Told from dual first person perspectives (JD and Janey) HIGH DENSITY follows two pathways. Dr, Janey Richards has been asked to serve as the resident veterinarian for Libby’s annual livestock rodeo but from the outset animals becomes ill, die or go missing, and Janey is determined to find out why. With the help of local ranched and a member of the High Mountain Trackers JD Watike, Janey calls in local law enforcement and ultimately the FBI, that will place a target on both of their backs. Meanwhile, several local women are missing, and eventually found dead, and the annual rodeo is the perfect foil to hide a killer’s activities.

The world building follows the building relationship between Janey and JD; the search for a killer; and the possibility of something more nefarious taking aim at the livestock and cattle. While Janey discovers the how and why, law enforcement must begins an investigation in the who and where.

The relationship between Janey and JD begins as friends to lovers but the start of their relationship is mired in a misperception and misunderstanding. Janey is a bit of a workaholic, as the only local veterinarian in Libby Montana, and the overwhelming number of cases is questionable at best. As JD begins a slow seduction of our story line heroine, Janey must come to terms and accept that there is more to JD than meets the eye. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and test.

There is a large ensemble cast of colorful, energetic and familiar secondary and supporting character including the return of Sloane and Dan, Jillian and Wolff; several members from the original High Mountain Trackers series-Jonas and Alex, Jackson, Sully & Pippa, and Bo; JD’s sister Una, and their parents James and Ama; FBI Agents Shane Wilcox, and Stephanie Kramer; Sheriff Ewing; Janey’s assistant Frankie Bastian , and veterinarian student Logan Osborne. The requisite evil has many faces.

HIGH DENSITY is a story of power and control, secrets and lies, betrayal and jealousy, family and friendships, relationships and love. The premise is dramatic and intriguing; the romance is impassioned and seductive; the characters are determined and charismatic.

REVIEW: COLD AS HELL is the third instalment in Kelley Armstrong’s contemporary adult HAVEN’S ROCK mystery, thriller series set in the fictional town of Haven’s Rock, Yukon focusing on Detective Casey Duncan and her husband Sheriff Eric Dalton. The HAVEN’S ROCK series is a spin off from the author’s ROCKTON series with several of the original series characters moving to Haven’s Rock.

SOME BACKGROUND: Rockton Yukon did not exist on any map, and the residents all had a questionable past, fake names and false histories. Most were once considered to be white collar crimes but with increasing regularity, hardened criminals have somehow paid their way into Rockton, seeking sanctuary against future prosecution, a safe place for two years before seeking asylum somewhere else. A serial killer destroyed the people and ultimately the town of Rockton Yukon, and with the help of some of their former friends and a big influx of cash, Detective Casey Duncan and her husband Sheriff Eric Dalton, begin the task of building a new town, known as Haven’s Rock, a town that will expose our couple to more murders and questionable inhabitants.

Told from first person perspective (Casey Duncan) COLD AS HELL focuses on several happenings in Haven’s Rock. A drugging at the local bar finds a very pregnant Detective Casey Duncan and her husband Sheriff Eric Dalton searching for a missing woman but when one woman is found, another is discovered dead, and the entire town begins to suspect everyone connected. Meanwhile Casey’s pregnancy reaches a critical point, and our heroine struggles between doing her job and protecting her unborn child, a struggle that becomes dangerous and deadly.

The world building follows several intersecting paths including the possibility of one of their own wreaking havoc on the town’s residents but not everyone is who they claim to be, and Casey and Eric will face down an enemy with deadly intent.

There is a large ensemble cast of colorful and questionable secondary and supporting characters, all of whom have a past. Accusations are made; threats are compounded with issues of trust-not everyone will survive.

COLD AS HELL is a story of secrets and lies, betrayal and vengeance, madness and murder, love and loss. The slow building story is dark, dramatic and edgy; the characters are determined, charismatic and energetic. Kelley Armstrong pulls the reader into a world of ice and cold, snow and blizzards-you can feel the temperature drop.

With heart-pounding action, steamy romance, and a touch of the supernatural, this story will captivate anyone who believes in the power of love to overcome even the darkest of curses.

Will they conquer their enemies-or will their eternal bond be broken forever?

•••••

REVIEW:The blurb of this book had me hooked. The first few pages of the story had me reading well past my bedtime.

It tells of a lost love between three people (so more of a why choose theme.) and how they will be reunited, time after time.

Phoenyx, Benjamin and Alyson are mages, and dark forces are seeking to destroy them…. In a bid to save his lovers, Benjamin stays behind so the others can escape, but he promises them that he will find them again one day, and they will be reunited forever.

Phoenyx, Benjamin and Alyson are reunited in Boston centuries later. Although their names of Phoenyx, Benjamin and Alyson are the same, they’ve been shortened to Ben, Ali and Nyx.

Ali and Ben go to the same college but don’t know one another yet.

Ali and Nyx flirt in a bar, but don’t exchange names.

Nyx and Ben are roommates.

Ben gave him a place to live and a job, he works the bar under the apartment.

It’s a fast paced action story. I really liked the premise, the fact these three people find each other time and again. Their love is strong and persists even though it’s ended time and again! I like the fact they don’t instantly know one another, but there is a spark, and that’s what keeps them interested. I like the snippets of past memories coming to them when they are with one another.

Benjamin is definitely the boss in this trio, although Alyson is the center of their world. All three connect separately, and it’s amusing to watch Ali be courted by both Nyx and Ben, but neither know it. Yet!

And the dark forces that hunt this trio. Well, they are onto them again!

Can Ali/Ben and Nyx conquer the darkness and win this time? 🤐

There is plenty of world building, and characters are fully fleshed out. I could clearly see where this story was going, what I didn’t count on was the twists and turns that were thrown at the trio.

Definitely a fated mates trope. (Which I absolutely love.)

The dialogue and speech was a little off putting (just felt awkward and misplaced!)

I did like the banter/chemistry and general feeling of friendship/family the main characters gave off.

If you love magic/romance and a love that will conquer even time, then this book is definitely for you.

Word of warning ….. CLIFFHANGER ENDING!

But I’m definitely grabbing the next instalment, I want to know what happens next.

REVIEW: THE THIRD ESTATE is the first instalment in DR Berlin’s contemporary, adult SECRETS OF THE MANOR suspense thriller focusing on US military cadet Sophie Allard, and the people in her life.

Told from omniscient third person perspective THE THIRD ESTATE focuses on the search for the truth. Just days before her final exam and flight test, US fighter pilot cadet Sophie Allard is called home in the wake of a lab explosion that killed her father Professor Milo Anderson, a man who works for the US government. Approximately ten years earlier, Sophie’s beloved adopted mother Violet was murdered, and in the ensuing time Sophie felt the rejection of her adopted father, a man whose contract with the military was dangerous and secret. Having worked toward her accreditation as a US fighter pilot, Sophie finds herself at odds with the hierarchy, and in the face of questionable answers regarding her father’s death, begins to search for the truth but all is not as it appears to be, and Sophie finds herself on the run from an assassin, a man hired to finish the job.

The world building follows several intersecting and sensational paths including the secrets that continue to control every aspect of Sophie’s life. Raised by the manor caretakers in the wake of her mother’s death, Sophie often wonders if she was to blame but her time in the military grows increasingly controversial, and the questions surrounding her father’s death and research are at the centre of an investigation she knows nothing about, an investigation that focuses on the family’s connections to a secret group known as The Third Estate.

There is a large ensemble cast of military personnel, dark operatives, anti-government agents, spies and assassins. Not everyone is whom they appear to be: lives are lost; actions are questioned; betrayal and treason are but the tip of the proverbial iceberg.

THE THIRD ESTATE is a story of secrets and lies, betrayal and vengeance, power and control, government and military, treason and conspiracies. The premise is dramatic, edgy, haunting, and thrilling-with a little bit of thinking, I did figure out the people involved; the characters are questionable, dynamic and destructive. No one can be trusted-Sophie Allard finds herself on the precipice of danger and death. THE THIRD ESTATE ends on a cliff hanger-you have been warned.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date February 13, 2025

Fox never planned to return to the Motorcycles, Mobsters, and Mayhem signing—or to Eden Anderson, the sultry author who turned their weekend fling into a bestselling romance. Now, under orders from his MC president, he’s stuck fake-dating her to sell the story to her fans.

But one fiery redhead at the hotel bar changes everything. She’s bold, irresistible—and the stepdaughter of their rival MC’s club president. Pursuing her could ignite a war, but walking away might destroy him.

Torn between duty, desire, and danger, Fox is playing a game where the stakes are deadly, and the price of love might be too high.

•••••

REVIEW:Property of Fox is the next in the Mayhem Makers Bastard Boilers MC series by Avelyn Paige. Each book can be read as a standalone, but check your trigger warnings before reading, this is a MC series after all and VERY intense.

Fox isn’t what you would call an “average” biker, yes he’s all about his bike, his club and the open road, but he’s growing as a character and I am all here for it. After agreeing to “fake date” an author to upsell her latest novel, Fox has had just enough of the drama, but when he comes across a pretty redhead at the bar, he’s second guessing the whole fake dating business.

Brea is on the run from her family and dragging her bestie Keira along the way with her. Her step-father is overly controlling and will stop at nothing to get her back under his thumb. When she and Kiera meet the rugged Fox, it is nothing but pure chaos. Brea and Fox fall for each other hard, but when it comes to light who she is, or rather who her step-father is, Fox has a world of hurt he’s going to have to deal with quickly.

While this book was rather fast paced, Brea and Fox are a kick in the pants. The banter between Brea and Fox is so good as is their chemistry, but truly I think all things Brea and Kiera make the book what it is. Oh and Asher, his moment almost physically hurt, I’m gonna need him to get a HEA pretty please!
