Description:
Grace Zook has always held a talent with horses, ever since she was a child growing up in her quaint Amish village of Honey Brook. Now, as an adult, she’s become a master trainer—but still struggles to prove to her father that she is worthy of taking over the family’s horse farm. With a fiery new stallion coming soon, Grace knows this challenge is her chance to prove she can finally take the reins.

When widower and horse whisperer Isaac King is offered the lead training job on a new farm out of town, he’s thrilled to finally make a name for himself and provide some permanent roots for his young daughter. But not only is the stallion seemingly unbreakable, so, too, is the owner’s headstrong daughter Grace, who has drastically different ideas about how to handle the impossible horse. Yet somehow, he can’t seem to get the confident, beautiful woman out of his mind…even though as his boss’s daughter, she is completely off-limits.

There’s too much at stake for Isaac to gamble his future on Grace…even though suddenly, he can’t imagine one without her.

Review:

The Amish Cowboy’s Homecoming by Ophelia London is the second book in her Honey Brook series.

Grace is a hard working woman, she loves working on the family farm with her father. Horses are what she knows and loves, and is hurt and angry when she finds out she won’t be the one to break on the new stallion! Hasn’t she proved herself by now?!

Isaac needs a stable home for his young daughter and when the opportunity arises, he takes it with both hands. What he doesn’t expect is anger and resentment from the boss’s daughter! But they need to work together, she’s just going to have to back down…..

There is a lot of tension for a while, both Isaac and Grace have things to prove. But as they start to work alongside one another other feelings start to emerge. Grace is confused, shouldn’t she hate the man that took her job? And Isaac knows he shouldn’t have those thoughts about the boss’s daughter.

Grace has to contend with a lot of things, one being the old fashioned ideas of women not working outside of the home, of only being a wife and mother!
Isaac is rather old fashioned that way too, so for the two of them to work out their feelings had me smiling. Isaac’s daughter is so cute and you have to love the way he always thinks of her comfort and safety.

The author captures both the emotions and the details in this story. We catch up with previous characters from the other book, but it’s not a requirement to read the first book. It’s a lovely story, and it was great catching up with the Amish community of Honey Brook. But if your expecting passion and sexy times, then this book may not be for you.

Review:

I must admit I don’t usually read books on religion, they either tend to bog the book down on religion, or try and cram their beliefs down your throat!

In Never an Amish Bride by Ophelia London, I didn’t get that.  What I got was a lovely story about two people who should have been together from the start, reconnecting and finding one another again.

Esther was two weeks away from being a bride….. That was two years ago, she didn’t  marry the man she was betrothed to, he died. Not being able to move forward, Esther mourns for her dead fiancé, watching her siblings and friends marry. Will she forever remain a single woman?

Lucas left his old life behind him, moved on and became a doctor’s assistant. His love for his brother made him the man he is today, the frustration and anger towards his community and father was put across well. I got the impression he wasn’t happy with his way of life, and when he lost both Esther and his brother, it gave him the strength to go.

When they accidentally meet up, panic and confusion is uppermost in Esther’s mind. What is Lucas doing back here? Why now? Confused Esther goes back home to think about Lucas.

Lucas has always loved Esther, he knows she’s the only woman for him. But getting her to see him proves difficult, and then there is his family and council to face. Does he really want to come back to this place? And will Esther and his family listen and forgive him for turning his back and walking away?

I liked this book. We had Esther and Lucas finding their way back to each other. Misinformation and fear kept these two apart for too long. It was nice that Lucas found his family again, forgiveness on both sides was needed, as was the long talk they had before Lucas came home.

If a slow burn romance is your thing, then this one is for you.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date June 16, 2104

She’s in over her head and he’s in hot water…

Visiting her friends Ellie and Charlie in Hawaii was supposed to be a much-needed vacation for journalist Justine Simms. Of course, then she learns he’s the gorgeous, secretly nerdy guy who broke her heart a year ago.

Will Davenport—aka Chase Ryder—doesn’t do interviews. He keeps his real name out of the papers and doesn’t mix his public life with his private. That is, until the still-heartbroken Justine blackmails him into giving her an exclusive. Seeing Justine, stunningly beautiful as ever, brings back all the feelings he had before. But despite their smoldering attraction, nothing has changed since he had to leave her the first time.

•••••••••••••••••••

REVIEW: MAKING WAVES is the latest instalment in Ophelia London’s Perfect Kiss series. This is journalist Justine Simms and pro surfer Chase Ryder’s (aka Will Davenport) storyline. Although it is the fourth instalment in the series, it can be read as a stand alone without too much difficulty. MAKING WAVES is a second chance novella about love and forgiveness.

The premise follows Justine as she is invited to Hawaii by friends Ellieand Charlie (Falling For Her Soldier-Perfect Kisses #3) a for a little rest and relaxation. When the paper where she works begins a round of lay offs, Justine needs to find the next big story to save her job and Chase Ryder’s return to the surfing circuit seems like the ideal chance-but Chase is not the man with whom Justine fell in love-it is Will Davenport-Chase’s private persona and the man who broke Justine’s heart when he disappeared from her life six months earlier. Hoping to get to the truth, Justine is surprised when Chase demands his true identity remains ‘off the record’.

The relationship between Justine and Chase is acrimonious as both have pent up frustrations and emotions. Chase wants his identity kept a secret and Justine wants to know why Will/Chase walked away six months earlier. As the storyline develops our couple will begin to understand more about one another and the love they once felt begins to bloom anew.

MAKING WAVES is a romantic look at a second chance at love. There is no sex, no violence and no graphic language. It is a short story with likeable characters and a happily ever after. The connection to the Perfect Kiss series comes by way of Justine’s best friend Ellie whose story is told in Perfect Kisses #3-Falling For Her Soldier.

Definitely, Maybe In Love by Ophelia London-a review

DEFINITELY, MAYBE IN LOVE by Ophelia London-a review

Definitely Maybe in Love

Amazon.com / Amazon.ca / Amazon.uk/

ABOUT THE BOOK: October 28, 2013

Spring Honeycutt wants two things: to ace her sustainable living thesis and to save the environment. Both seem hopelessly unobtainable until her college professor suggests that with a new angle, her paper could be published. Spring swears she’ll do whatever it takes to ensure that happens.

“Whatever it takes,” however, means forming a partnership with the very hot, very privileged, very conceited Henry Knightly.

Henry is Spring’s only hope at publication, but he’s also the über-rich son of a land developer and cash-strapped Spring’s polar opposite. Too bad she can’t help being attracted to the way he pushes her buttons, both politically and physically. As they work on her thesis, Spring finds there’s more to Henry than his old money and argyle sweaters…but can she drop the loud-and-proud act long enough to let him in? Suddenly, choosing between what she wants and what she needs puts Spring at odds with everything she believes in.

Definitely, Maybe in Love is a modern take on Pride and Prejudice that proves true love is worth risking a little pride

••••••••••••••••••••

REVIEW: Ophelia London’s DEFINITELY, MAYBE IN LOVE is a contemporary re-telling of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice using the backdrop of Stanford University and all of the social and elitist ideas and attitudes that go along with the membership. Although the storylines does not follow Austen’s story to the letter, fans of P and P will definitely see similarities between the two novels.

Our leading couple is Spring and Henry who clash immediately upon introduction. But Spring needs help with her thesis and Henry is the young man who comes to her rescue. Hoping to keep everything professional Spring and Henry will find themselves drawn to each other with every encounter until the day that Henry walks out of her life without so much as a word or goodbye.

Like the original storylines, there is no sex, no foul language, no graphic violence and only a hint of romance. The story is promoted as a new adult contemporary but it did not reach the level of most other NA stories-the overall premise is subdued with only hints at what has happened and what is to come. The storyline felt more suited to a young adult (YA) or high school retelling than for new adult or adult contemporary-even the actions of the leading heroine came across as young and naïve. The storyline is updated with the use of environmental disasters, going ‘green’, frat parties and social issues that surround all students and young adults. Our heroine is a feminist at heart and considers the actions of the male of the species condescending towards all women and girls.

Overall, DEFINITELY, MAYBE IN LOVE is a sweet retelling of Pride and Prejudice that is suitable for all ages 13 and up. Because the characters came across more like high school teens than third year university students, there is a definite YA feel to the story and one that may be enjoyed by a younger audience.

REVIEW

5 out of 5 for this reader folks!

“How does it feel, Abby?  To know you killed your own brother?”

I read that in the prologue of Abbey Road by Ophelia London!  YUP .. that got my attention!  Actually this was one of those books I couldn’t put down!  It flowed!  So without going into too much detail and spoiling anything for you, I will give you a little something something of this fabo book!

Meet Abigail Kelly!  Lead singer to rock star band Mustang Sally, pink loving, blond, bad-ass, sassy and has it all going on rock star!  Now meet Abby!  Tired, broken, grief stricken, pushed over, confused, brown loving, artist.  Guess what??  These two are the same person.  Can you imagine what it feels like to have yourself split in two?  To be one person in front of an audience and press, to have the burden of so many people’s careers on your shoulders, but to be so self depreciating and shamefully broken on the inside?  YAH .. that sucks!

Meet Todd Camford!  Yummy hottie, ex-Marine, business major, beach bum, fishing, fun loving with a sharp temper is he cares, been heart broken  (but managing) and knows what he wants in life.  He’s kinda Mr. Perfect and Abby’s salvation.  She just doesn’t know it yet!

Meet Max who cares what his last name is… JERK manager with serious control issues! Every story needs an antagonist.

I have to say, this book got right to the core of my heart.    I love a good romance and if it has lots of smut even better!  Here’s the thing though.  THIS HAD NONE (aside from serious hot kissing)  and it’s a 5 star in my opinion.  The characters and story line were so well written that I had no need for smut filling.  This is a exceptional love at first sight story. Plain and simple!

“This guy, this man I’d known for two short days, who named his dog after a member of the Rat Pack, whose sisters nicknamed him Pockets, who’d been lost in the Andes for eighteen hours, who loved Frank Sinatra, Dr Pepper, and the Marines, he was the only person who allowed me to unload one suitcase of personal baggage, one corner of repressed feelings – all with no judgment and no blame.  Nothing but his calming presence.”

SWOON WORTHY RIGHT?

Abby does a lot of discovery and changing in this book and while much of it is in direct relation to having Todd in her life, it was very liberating to read a character who really comes into her own … on her own.  Todd has to make some tough decisions to get Abby back on track, but he does it out of love.   Let’s forgive him okay???  WINK

I would have liked to have read more back story on Todd as opposed to just casual conversation snippets of his life.  There were some minor details given, but I think this character had more to him than was given.  Don’t get me wrong, he is easy to connect with, but I would of loved to understand some of his more intense personality traits and why they are there.

So … through a journey of small town Florida, to the hectic “go go go” of LA rock star life you are bound to get wrapped up in these two!  If you happen to appreciate funny friendly banter, modern life references (like Mr Big, Tom Hanks and that Angelina lady) and ANYTHING BEATLES than go out and snag this book!  I have a feeling that Ophelia London is going to be an author I am personally going to be watching out for.

I will leave you with a snippet, just cause it made me chuckle and put MISS ROCK STAR in her simple humble place (which by the way she accepts wholeheartedly)!

Todd leaned forward.  “What were you doing a year ago, Abby?”

“One year ago I was on my way to England,” I began without having to think, “Five shows in five days in five cities.  Then Europe.  Then Asia.”  I folded my arms.  “Top that.”

“I was climbing Everest.”

OUCH!  LOL

Description:
Speech teacher and successful matchmaker Mackenzie Simms decides to find a woman for her friend, handsome newspaper tycoon Rick Duffy. Though they’ve been each other’s go-to dates for the past month, Mac and Rick couldn’t be more different: she is outspoken, sarcastic, and completely loathes his privileged lifestyle. He’s laid-back, unassuming, and seems comfortable at an upper-class charity function. So why can’t she stop thinking about him?

Rick knows he and the opinionated-though-adorable Mackenzie are better off as friends, so he agrees to the double-date getaway Mac plans at his family cabin. But seeing Mac cuddle up with her “friendly” date rankles Rick beyond reason, and Mac regrets her matchmaking scheme the minute she sees the way her beauty-queen cousin looks at Rick. Can Mac ‘fess up to what’s really in her heart, when speaking her mind puts everything at risk?

 Review:

4 out of 5 for this reader folks!

Simple formula for this read!  Almost lovers, friends, lovers!  You know, the kind of relationship that is made to last!

Speaking of Love was another wonderful SWEET love story by Ophelia London.  It is the second book of her Perfect Kisses series and it certainly did not let me down!  I have discovered that Ophelia London has a great style.  This is the third book of hers I have read, and she is brilliant at sarcastic, quick wit, amazing chemistry between her hero and heroine, including modern day references and just making me believe that love could really be this BEAUTIFUL!

Now .. let’s get to some of the nitty gritty shall we??

We first met Mackenzie Simms (but you better call her Mac and most definitely not BABE, or she’ll go postal all over you) in the first book of this series called Playing at Love.  Mac is my kind of girl!  By profession she is a speech/debate teacher at the local high school and by nature she is outspoken, for sure set in her ways, stubborn, very quick witted, matchmaker to her friends and REALLY REALLY easy to like.  She fights for what she believes in and will go a million miles to help those she loves.

We also met Rick Duffy in Playing for Love.  Rick is a reporter who actually owns the local paper.   He is also a bit of an oxymoron (although it takes Mac forever to figure this out .. silly girl).  Rick comes from a rich pompous family but he truely doesn’t embrace the posh lifestyle that he was born into.  While Rick loves a fancy car and suit, carries himself with much class and is well mannered, he can wear a fine pair of jeans and plaid shirt, drive an old four wheeler, and get dog slobbered with the best of them.

These two .. COMPLETE OPPOSITES!  (Pssstt .. good thing we know that opposites tend to attract right??  LOL)

Mac and Rick tried the whole “let’s get hot and heavy” when they first met and I think it may have gone well, until Mac found out that Rick came from money and is the son of the man who was responsible for essentially ruining Mac’s parents marriage.  Unfortunately our speech professional cannot seem to find the words to tell Rick this small tidbit of information, so they each embrace the “friendship” aspect of their relationship instead and carry on.

I, at times got really frustrated with these two.   I am such “spit it out and say what you mean” kind of personality that I found I rolled my eyes at some of their ignorance towards each other and jumping to negative assumptions right away.  Now of course let’s be honest here .. without any of that this book would not flowed nor had any build up.  WINK!

Somehow through the maze of  setting up her beauty queen cousin with Rick, fighting off an ape-man, constant heat filled banter, mutual attraction, truck catastrophe, snowstorm with serious sexy moments, squirrel fighting and a kick ass demonstration in a small town these two do finally figure it out!

A great read and I do strongly recommend you read the first book in this series as the characters are introduced and you get a good feel for their personalities and the intrigue of “where is this going”????  That being said, you can read this as a stand alone very comfortably.

I want to finish this review with a flirty moments between Mac and Rick.

“And anyways, there is still no better song for house cleaning than “I Want Your Sex.”

“Really?” Rick turned to her again, one eyebrow lifted.  “next time you come over to my house, I’ll play it for you.”  The way he was smiling made Mac’s heart hiccup.  “My floors could use a good deep clean.”

I have to try that .. LOL
